What is better Volkswagen Polo or Chevrolet Aveo. Vw polo and chevrolet aveo: standby mode (video). Reasons and reason to choose Chevrolet Cruze vs Volkswagen Jetta

The debate in the editorial office about which of the sedans is prettier ended before it even started.

Polo sedan won unconditionally. Stylish optics, minimal gaps between the elements (the little finger crawls between the headlight and the closed Aveo hood without any problems). The only thing that “blew the bill” was the rear view, which in the Chevrolet seemed a little more solid and balanced, while the Polo’s stern was framed so that it seemed to be narrower than it actually is.

Aveo also let down the decorative hubcaps and a not-so-serious navy blue; in black and with alloy wheels it would be more competitive. Maybe.

Salon

Inside, the VW, like the outside, is a step more modern, both aesthetically and functionally. Although the hard steering wheel, which does not even have control buttons at maximum speed, slightly spoiled the more than worthy interior appearance. However, the plastic itself, with which the doors and dashboard are trimmed, is quite hard; a logical question arose - how much would a car become more expensive if VW plastic was used as in a regular Polo ... But the organization of driver's tools is like in a real Volkswagen. Excellent readable devices, between them - a small on-board computer screen. The information displayed on it can be controlled by the buttons on the stalk with wipers.

Aveo is simpler. But everything vital is also in its place: air conditioning and a standard double-size radio tape recorder, unpopular with thieves, have firmly settled on the center console. The good news is that there are two buttons on the steering wheel. Bad: these are the horn buttons, which cannot be hit if, out of habit, you press into the core of the steering wheel ...

The back of the Polo is cramped. That is, there is enough space for the knees, but the hard finish of the roof touches the head. And in the shoulders there will be enough space for only two. Aveo is more spacious in breadth, although those who are taller than 180 cm will also complain about the height to the roof.

Dynamics

At first glance, the comparison is unfair: under the hood of the Polo sedan was a 1.6-liter 105-horsepower engine, while the Aveo had only a 1.4 engine. But the power of Chevrolet, whose engine size is a whole glass less, differed by only 4 hp. Therefore, there is no particular difference in the dynamics, only in the nature of the set.

A six-speed "automatic" (not bad for a state employee, right ?!) diligently changes gears, offering to be more economical on fuel - the salon managers drove to us so that the average consumption on the on-board computer was about 15 liters per hundred! The Japanese Aisin automatic transmission works great, and in sport mode it allows you to keep the gear longer and helps you move faster around the city. Aveo is not inferior at the start, winning due to the rare shifting of speeds - the Chevrolet “automatic” has only 4 gears, but in the city this is enough. Despite its age, this transmission performs just as well, and we especially like the subtle upshifts and predictable downshifts.

The steering is more transparent in the Volkswagen: the neutral position is better indicated, and the slightest deviation causes the steering wheel to return more and more. Chevrolet is a little less informative, and at low speeds the control becomes sharply less sharp, unlike Polo.

The suspension of both sedans is quite stiff, but with the deterioration of the road quality, the Aveo looks more comfortable. However, the Polo sedan is rehabilitated on flat pavement by keeping the straight line perfectly, turning even with slight rolls (almost off-road clearance affected), but without deviating from the intended trajectory.

The ground clearance of the Polo sedan is 1.5 cm higher than that of the Aveo (170 versus 155 mm), which can come in handy on a broken country road, say, on the way to the country. But even a more modest Chevrolet clearance will not cause discomfort on the streets of the city - for example, both cars can park with their front wheels close to the curb.

Money

The entrance fee to the club of owners of the Polo sedan and Aveo with "automatic machines" is 512,000 and 513,000 rubles, respectively. In the case of Chevrolet, in addition to the machine, the buyer also receives a fully equipped car with the maximum equipment option. However, for this amount, the Aveo will not have heated seats and a longitudinal adjustment of the steering column. But in Polo there is no music, no air conditioning - everything is for a fee.

What is the result?

Volkswagen Polo is worth the wait. Moreover, the Kaluga plant is about to increase the production of cars several times, and the queues will shorten. More likely. But Polo is your option, but inexpensive (compared to competitors) can no longer be called. If money is “tense” and every ruble is important, Aveo is a classic “budget car”: you won’t be charged extra for a stylish and ergonomic interior and exterior in German, but only for everything you need, already included in the list of equipment.

The ruling tandem in the class of budget sedans-foreign cars is Renault Logan and Hyundai Solaris. 81,909 people voted for the first one, and 76,625 people voted for the second one, and with their hard-earned money - that is, without stuffing, carousels and other juggling. And what are the forces of the "opposition"? The Volkswagen Polo sedan (47,491 votes) and the Kia Rio, which received 33,102 votes, can be attributed to the “systemic” one. Avto newcomer Chevrolet Aveo so far from the “non-systemic”: its mass production in Nizhny Novgorod will begin at the end of the year (the estimated volume is 35 thousand cars a year), and we got the Aveo, brought from Korea and assembled in Kaliningrad. Chevrolet Aveo is available without a queue. However, the rush demand for other budget sedans has also subsided: you can even find the Polo from Kaluga at dealers! Do you give free and fair elections? What about the budget? If a prerequisite is the presence of air conditioning, power accessories and an audio system, then Chevrolet will cost 507 thousand rubles, Volkswagen - 523 thousand, and Kia - 530 thousand. Who will we vote for?

All three cars do not spoil the look of the city - and even decorate the yard on its outskirts. More interesting than others, perhaps, Aveo - and not only because it is a beginner. Four separate round headlights are bold and so close to the heart of an experienced Russian motorist who has stood in lines for many years, first for the VAZ "three rubles", then for the "six" ... But wouldn't it be too tiring to keep such beauty clean, cleaning the headlights from dirt and bugs?

An armrest is fixed on the back of the “grasping” Aveo chair for fans of an imposing landing

As for the Aveo's interior, we have two pieces of news. Let's start with the good: fresh youth design gets along with good ergonomics. And how intriguingly the turquoise glow spreads through the "veins" of the audio system, as soon as you insert the key into the ignition! And although our experts scolded the “motorcycle” instrument panel, I personally liked it, and I got used to it instantly. It's great that, like in the Polo, the steering wheel can be adjusted not only in height, but also in reach, and the side bolsters on the back of the seat hug you and are not at all budget-friendly. Add an adjustment of the lumbar support and an "elevator" of the chair - and here's the ideal for you. The symmetrical front fascia extends far into the bonnet, giving you the feeling that you are in a class-above car. And also - a lot of compartments for small things: in addition to shelves near the center console and a capacious "cellar", there are two glove boxes. The one at the top is smaller, but it has a USB connector. Pleasant, but far away: if you connect a smartphone to the audio system, the cord will stretch through half the cabin.

But the bad news: the feeling of a budget car still does not leave. Doors slam loudly, the gaps between the panels are uneven, and the smell of hard plastic, barely heated by the timid March sun, makes you wrinkle.

The Volkswagen Polo is another matter... Oh, and the doors rumble even harder, and the hard materials, to put it mildly, are far from refined. Solid design? Against the background of the Asian floridity of Solaris - yes, Volkswagen is a reserved aristocrat, but the comparison with Rio is no longer in favor of Polo. The low and hard seat of the Kia is no worse than the Volkswagen one - it's a pity that not everyone will pick up a comfortable fit: the reach of the steering wheel does not change.

The Chevrolet Aveo tachometer "cogwheel" and Chevrolet digital speedometer are original, but read as well as the classic Rio and Polo scales. It is strange that in Aveo the trip computer is installed only on the most expensive version of the LTZ - the rivals already have it in the basic configuration

Youth - does it mean tight? If Chevrolet is indeed youthful, then such a statement is erroneous: the back seat is spacious, and the huge trunk is fraught with the threat that households will make you a hostage to endless garden and summer transportation. But if the road to the dacha is broken, then you can cut it off, referring to the clearance of 115 mm. It doesn’t suit me, not yet a summer resident, either: how to get to a picnic to a reservoir with such ground clearance?

Volkswagen is more versatile - the rear is even more relaxed, and the ground clearance is 25 mm more. But be careful in the rut - the lower rear suspension spring seats are only 120mm off the ground. This is not Renault Logan. Yes, and Kia Rio is also not Logan: it has a solid clearance, almost 160 mm, but it’s cramped in the back, and the trunk is the most modest of all.

Chevrolet has neither mud flaps nor transparent stickers that protect the bottom of the body from "sandblasting" - only a narrow strip of "anti-gravel" coating protects the thresholds

Youth means active? Again past Chevrolet. A new platform, a rigid body, and the sensations are like from a car of the previous generation, on which our expert Yaroslav Tsyplenkov drove 75,000 kilometers. He vividly remembered the suspension settings, when it shakes at typical urban seams, but sways on the waves. All the same!

Chevrolet does not feel well on broken roads, requiring taxiing and slowing down due to the danger of breakdown. On smooth pavement, Aveo, although it does not give happiness from control, at least does not cause negative emotions. The low effort on the steering wheel is quite informative, and the sensitivity is verified and it’s great at all. It is a pity that we have few good roads left in early spring - it seems that the snow is now coming down with the asphalt.

Fashionable appearance is the only thing that distinguishes Chevrolet Aveo from the mass of budget sedans: driving properties are mediocre. Let's see how reliable it will be

There is more enthusiasm in the Aveo power unit. The 1.6 engine (115 hp) of the Ecotec series, familiar from Opel cars, paired with a “short” five-speed manual transmission accelerates the heaviest car in the trio (1214 kg) to 100 km / h in 11.4 s. In the city, such dynamics is enough - you can even get under way from second gear, and in fourth you can accelerate tolerably from 40 km / h. This is also nice because there is little joy in changing gears - the lever moves too sweepingly. And from a speed of 100 km / h, the reverse side of the “short” transmission declares itself: the noise of the engine, spun in fifth gear up to 3000 rpm, dominates in the cabin. The noise from the tires also comes out at an increased volume. Moreover, we traveled on Aveo both on Bridgestone Blizzak WS60 winter non-studded tires and on standard Hankook Optimo K415 summer tires: the tone is different, but the volume is the same.

As a result, it seems that Chevrolet designers can be congratulated on the victory over engineers: there is a bright appearance, but there is no driving character. It is possible that the tiny ground clearance is another element of this victory.

And Rio was surprisingly quiet. Even at 120 km / h, you can communicate with fellow travelers without raising your voice. Whereas you want to get out of the Polo already at 90 km / h - it is even noisier than the Aveo! Tires hum, the wind howls, and the engine seems to be installed right in the cabin, somewhere behind the glove box lid. And therefore, we will not regret the lack of a USB connector in the Polo: it is still difficult to listen to music at high speed.

In terms of layout and ease of control of audio and climate systems, all cars are close. The features are easy to use. Unless Kia has better multimedia connectors - at the base of the center console. The Aveo has a USB slot hidden in the top glove box, while the Polo has no audio inputs at all.

But Volkswagen sets the standards for handling in the class: driving it is both easy and pleasant, regardless of the quality and “twist” of the roads. Unless the Nokian Hakkapeliitta 5 studded tires negated the already low effort on the steering wheel in the near-zero zone.

Kia Rio has a powerful engine and good sound insulation, but its cargo-passenger qualities are the most modest

But Rio meets the same standards! The steering wheel is more informative, the sensitivity is higher, it would still be to isolate the steering wheel from bumps on bumps. Think of the powerful 123-horsepower engine that accelerates the Rio to 100 km / h in 10.5 seconds - and here you have the most driver-friendly budget sedan! True, due to the rather “long” gears (you can reach 95 km / h in the second, and 130 km / h in the third), Rio did not show outstanding elasticity - it is better to choose a lower step before a tense maneuver.

The most presentable among the budget ones is the Kia Rio salon. C normal door handles, unlike Solaris. Pay attention to capacious niches on both sides of the central tunnel. The successful driver's seat, like in other cars, lacks lumbar support adjustment

The Polo is slower (it picks up speed on a par with the Aveo), and the gas pedal damped at the beginning of the stroke makes it difficult to move in traffic jams and reminds you of a carburetor with a faulty accelerator pump. And the unexpected discovery of this test was the smoothness of the Polo, which was beneficially affected by all the same studded tires. Volkswagen does not notice the “little things” that the hard Kia stumbles over every now and then. In addition, Rio skips short waves more sharply, although, in our opinion, such a response is still more pleasant than the characteristic buildup of Aveo.

Chevrolet Aveo Chevrolet shift mechanism is loose and inaccurate. At Kia, instead of the first gear, you can stick in the third - the transverse travel of the lever is small. You can’t fault the selectivity of the Polo mechanism

What we liked most about the Rio, and without a doubt, were the brakes. Despite the fact that since the summer of last year, Polo sedans have been equipped with a new firmware for the anti-lock braking system (the problem was identified by us a year and a half ago - when combining a detour maneuver with braking, the deceleration efficiency drops to an unacceptably low level), no recall campaign was announced, and we got the car with old software. We experienced the trademark "disinhibition" as if for the first time - with a rapid heartbeat. Aveo's ABS is also weird: it is enough to hit a junction or bump when braking - and the deceleration is practically nullified. Not everyone has the self-control to let go and press the brake pedal again, thus resetting the “glitch” of the anti-lock braking system.

Chevrolet Aveo The three of us in the back seats of all cars will be cramped in the shoulders, and in Polo, the central tunnel is also very developed, which constrains the feet of the average passenger. But together it is more convenient and spacious in Polo - wide armrests on the doors, good landing geometry. But the high threshold makes it difficult to enter and exit, and from the amenities - only pockets in the doors. The Chevrolet has less knee room, but only people taller than 180 cm will rest against the backs of the front seats. Interestingly, the Aveo's rear window extends far to the roof, letting in more light into the cabin. Armrests here are scanty, and small things can be folded into a lone pocket on the back of the right front seat. In terms of the number of convenient options, Kia is the leader - only it has a backlight, pockets in the doors and in the seats, but there is the least space here. Moreover, tall people are forced not only to tighten their legs, but also to take care of their heads - the ceiling is low

As a result, Chevrolet took the third place. Maybe we didn’t see it, didn’t catch the zest? Happens. But if it is still there, then we will definitely get to the bottom of it: we bought this particular Aveo for accelerated life tests, where each of the 30,000 “hard” kilometers equates to three kilometers of normal operation. By the way, already now on the new car the input shaft of the gearbox grumbles, and the box itself is covered in oil smudges.

Our endurance testing of the Polo is now behind us, resulting in record-breaking low costs for repairs and spare parts: in fact, Volkswagen required only routine maintenance. But in today's comparative test, he is second. Summed up unimportant insulation and insidious ABS setting.

Rio won. Fast, quiet, although not conducive to passenger and cargo transportation. And everything would be fine, but its technological twin Hyundai Solaris during the Autoreview resource marathon demanded twice as much money for repairs as the Polo. But routine maintenance for Kia is even more expensive than for Hyundai. So if you take into account not only expert opinions, but also reliability and cost of ownership, then the Polo is still the best choice.

What about the Chevrolet Aveo? When this issue of Autoreview sees the light, Aveo will pass the first thousand "resource" kilometers along the roads of the autopolygon. What if this sedan is even more reliable than the Polo? Then - straight into the "systemic" opposition, and there ... What the hell is not joking! We'll keep you posted!

Chevrolet Aveo Kia has huge mirrors, thin windshield pillars - nothing prevents you from exploring your surroundings. In Polo, on the contrary, the mirrors are scanty, and the upturned stern makes it difficult to assess the rear clearance when parking. Gloomy German ... interior. It’s boring, but the landing is comfortable, only the long-stroke clutch pedal requires habit.

Polo, like Kia, has seat height adjustment in all trim levels

Lada Granta in the Norma configuration, which we bought for 258 thousand rubles, will become Aveo's partner, and at the same time rival in the resource marathon. But a two-fold difference in price (Chevrolet costs 515 thousand) in the case of resource tests does not mean a foregone conclusion. Remember how successfully the Lada Priora marathon passed. We will tell you about the results of the first of 30 thousand kilometers of the marathon in one of the next issues.

Spacious interior, high reliability - Volkswagen is a great family man. However, the cool chassis also appeals to driving values.

Chevrolet Aveo Only in Chevrolet the trunk can be opened using the button on the lid, in other cars you need to either insert the key into the larva or pull the lever in the cabin. Alas, the Aveo was also the only one without a handle to close the trunk lid without getting your hands dirty. All cars have roomy trunks, but Kia’s compartment is spoiled by the protruding arc of the body amplifier, because of it, the opening to the cabin with the rear seats folded down is the most modest, and the Rio’s loading height is greater than that of the others. Convenient hooks for attaching luggage are offered only by Aveo. He also has an elastic band in the right corner, with which you can grab a jar of “anti-freeze” - in Rio, a pair of Velcro for the same purpose is located on the left wall of the compartment. All trunks are illuminated

Safety

The most modest basic set of safety features is offered by the Kaluga Volkswagen Polo: front airbags, front belt force limiters, rear head restraints and Isofix mounts, and you will have to pay 9,090 rubles for ABS. Aveo and Rio are equipped with ABS already in the “base”, and in addition they have front belt pretensioners, but the simplest Aveo lacks rear head restraints (they are only in LT and LTZ trim levels). All three sedans can be equipped with side airbags for the front riders for an extra charge, but curtain airbags are offered only for Aveo and Rio. And the stabilization system is only for the top versions of Rio and Polo.

We carried out a frontal crash test of the Volkswagen Polo sedan a year and a half ago: the car scored 14.3 points out of 16 possible - these are the maximum four stars in the ARCAP rating. Only the ribs of both riders and the driver's shins are at a small risk, in addition, one penalty point was removed for protecting the legs due to the metal structures of the steering column, located close to the safety casing. And in Europe, Euro NCAP experts conducted crash tests of the Volkswagen Polo hatchback. The five-door car earned five stars, and the frontal crash test score was only half a point higher (14.8) than our sedan. The hatchback with security curtains withstood side impacts perfectly well. Young passengers in the Bobsy G1 and G0 Plus seats are well protected (86%), and experts rated pedestrian safety at 41%.

The level of passive safety of the Kia Rio can be judged by the crash test of the related Hyundai Solaris sedan, which performed worse than the Polo sedan and earned only two ARCAP stars. The score for the frontal crash test is 8.5 points out of 16: the loads on the chests of the dummies are high, and the driver's legs are threatened by the steering column locking mechanism and the clutch pedal that has shifted strongly back and up. For comparison: the Kia Rio hatchback for the European market with different body panels and six airbags earned five stars according to the Euro NCAP methodology, having adequately withstood all crash tests. The safety of child passengers in the Britax Römer Duo Plus and Baby Safe seats was rated by experts at 84%, and the "pedestrian rating" is even higher than that of the Polo - 46%.

The new Chevrolet Aveo passed the Euro NCAP safety tests last year - the hatchback for the European market with six airbags passed all crash tests without comment and earned the maximum five stars. Toddlers in the Britax Römer Duo and Baby Safe seats are even better protected than in the Polo and Rio (87%), and the aggressive front end turned out to be “friendlier” to pedestrians than the competitors, although the hood's too rigid leading edge did not allow earning more than 54%. But in Russia, Aveo will be awarded only four Euro NCAP stars: a stabilization system for the Russian market is not offered even for an extra charge.

What's the price?

The Volkswagen Polo sedan (1.6 l, 105 hp) can be bought for 429,100 rubles, and the basic Trendline package already has two airbags, power windows, a fully folding rear seat, a trip computer, central locking and steering wheel height adjustment and departure. The Comfortline package for 514,900 rubles looks much more attractive - with air conditioning, ABS, electric drive and heated mirrors, heated front seats, a separate rear seat and metallic paint, and our sedan for 527,520 rubles also had a CD receiver and a leather steering wheel braid. A six-speed "automatic" for Polo will cost 45,900 rubles. The times of huge queues for the Kaluga sedan are over - there are cars for free sale and in the nearest deliveries, but if there is no suitable one among them, you will have to place an order and wait from three to five months.

Warranty - two years without mileage limitation.

Chevrolet Aveo (1.6 l, 115 hp) formally costs from 444 thousand rubles, but cars in the basic LS configuration with two airbags, ABS, front electric windows, a CD player, a central lock and a rigidly fixed rear seat will go to dealers only in the fall. In the meantime, you can buy a sedan in the LT version for 487 thousand rubles - it has air conditioning, rear head restraints, a Bluetooth transmitter and a folding rear seat back. Our Aveo with full power accessories, heated front seats, steering wheel adjustment for reach and metallic coloring costs 515 thousand rubles - 12,500 rubles cheaper than the Polo sedan that participated in the test, but Chevrolet does not have an on-board computer or seat height adjustment. But the surcharge for a six-speed "automatic" is only 33 thousand rubles. There are not many cars in the free sale yet, but you will have to wait no more than a month for the ordered sedan.

Warranty - three years or 100,000 km, but during the first two years the mileage is not limited.

The Kia Rio sedan in the initial configuration Comfort is equipped with a 1.4 engine (107 hp) and costs 469,900 rubles, but already in the “base” there are two airbags, ABS, air conditioning, front power windows, an on-board computer, a separate rear seat back and seat adjustment height of the driver, although the steering wheel in all trim levels is adjustable only in height. The Luxe version with a 1.6 engine (123 hp) has full power accessories, a CD receiver, heated front seats and costs 529,900 rubles - almost like a Polo sedan with similar equipment. And in our hands was Rio in the performance of Prestige for 569,900 rubles - with six airbags, climate control and alloy wheels. For a four-speed "automatic" for Rio, you need to pay 40 thousand rubles. A suitable vehicle can be found in stock at dealers, and the delivery time for an order is from one to three months, depending on the configuration.

Warranty - five years or 150,000 km.

Alternative

The choice of sedans priced up to 600 thousand rubles is very wide: even without counting the very budget cars like the Uzbek Nexia and the Ukrainian Chance, more than two dozen of these models are sold on the Russian market. But some golf-class cars fall into this price category only in the "empty" basic versions with the weakest engine.

The diagram shows the ratio of the most important, but sometimes conflicting qualities of cars - dynamics and comfort. For clarity, we have identified three zones: red (the car does not meet the requirements of the consumer), yellow (satisfies mainly) green (satisfies completely). Axis Dynamics is calibrated as a percentage of the maximum possible expert assessment, which consists of three components: acceleration, braking and handling. The same situation with the Comfort axis (ratings for smooth running, vibration protection and acoustic comfort were taken into account)

Ergonomics 200 160 165 165 Aveo has the best seat, but it is set too high, and only the top trim has a chair lift. The Volkswagen is also comfortable, but the long-travel clutch pedal forces you to push the seat forward more, and the Kia doesn't have a steering wheel for reach. But visibility is excellent. The engineers and designers of the largest automobile concerns have always faced a difficult task: how to make an affordable, recognizable among competitors, safe and popular car for the masses of motorists? We will look for the answer to this question in a comparative review of the “affordable sedans” so beloved by the domestic consumer, as they are positioned by the manufacturers themselves.

Chevrolet Aveo is now in its third generation. Production of the new model began in 2011. This car is a front-wheel drive compact "B" class sedan, also known by the nickname Sonic. Most cars received a modern atmospheric gasoline unit of 1.4 and 1.6 liters, which can optionally work in conjunction with both automatic and manual transmissions.

Volkswagen Polo the model is not new, but it is the sedan that is the novelty that was created specifically for the markets of the CIS countries. The front-wheel drive B-Class is an extended version of the Polo hatchback platform, but has its own distinctive features. The model was presented to the public in 2010. ICE options are limited to a 1.6-liter gasoline "aspirated". A choice of automatic or manual transmission is available.

The cars presented in the review have 1.6 liter power units paired with an automatic transmission.

Chevrolet Aveo

From the front, the car looks very aggressive and unexpectedly fresh for a budget sedan. The main role in this is played by non-standard head optics for modern cars. We are used to seeing round twin headlight wells on Italian Alfa Romeos or BMWs from the era of the 90s, but not on a modern mass car. The wide hood has distinct ribs, which even allows us to talk about a certain amount of "sport" in the appearance of the front. The corner grille puts an impressive end to the overall perception of the Aveo's front.

The side part succinctly continues the given note. From the back to the front there is an inclined line of stamping at the bottom of the doors, rapidly pulling the sides of the car. The rear is of particular interest. Looking at the car from behind, bitter disappointment immediately arises. There is no trace of sports aggression left! And the point here is not at all the narrowed trunk lid, which looks on the body of the car like short trousers sitting out of size on a lanky youth. It's all because of the taillights, which would fit a completely different car. They are wide, slightly reminiscent of a rectangle with beveled lines, arranged vertically. The design of the rear looks cheap and fails.

Volkswagen Polo Sedan

The front of the sedan is made strictly, ascetic and very "German". There is a significant resemblance to the Polo hatchback. The differences are only in the strokes: a narrow radiator grille with chrome stripes, a strict front bumper with fog lamps. Sharp "logs" in the lines of the head optics and a large corporate logo make the car recognizable, steadily following the general design concept of VAG. It turned out to be a kind of "intellectual", who was going to take part in a street fight for the first time.

The profile looks a little stretched, but this nuance is well concealed by the “step” of stamping at the bottom of the doors and a strict line above the door handles, which stretches from the edge of the rear lights to the very edge of the front lights. The round gas tank hatch is able to bring its own special charm, if we consider exactly the side where it is located. The back part, unlike the Aveo, did not receive any design frills. In the list of potential state employees for personal purchase, Polo confidently takes its place in the top 5 main contenders for the purchase. The look is caught by simple rear lights and a slightly narrowed, taut and strict trunk lid. The ironed lines of the bumper successfully complement the overall picture.

If we consider cars exclusively from the front and side, then the Chevrolet Aveo looks much more profitable than the Volkswagen Polo Sedan. It is more modern, bold and youthful. Also, the car will appeal to middle-aged people. A surprise will await you only when you decide to follow with an admiring glance a pretty little car with a bright golden butterfly passing by. Be prepared at least for surprise, and to be more frank, then for complete disappointment from the appearance of the stern of the car.
Polo Sedan is not preparing any surprises, checked! Go around and look at it at least a hundred times from any angle, but a strict and concise design idea dominates everywhere, giving the impression of reliability, quality factor and ... boredom! The usual Volkswagen sedan, only a little smaller.
The winner is the Aveo model. One way or another, Chevrolet designers have achieved the main goal! The car is of interest and attracts increased attention, which cannot be said about the Polo Sedan model.

Salon

Chevrolet Aveo

Surprises await riders in the car, this time they are pleasant. Solid plastic, although it is the main finishing material for most elements of the interior space, everything is assembled with high quality, without cracks, rough cuts or gaps. The main color was black, which was diluted with inserts and finishing of functional elements with chrome.

The most interesting solution in the interior of the sedan was dashboard. It is made in the "motorcycle" style, representing a combination of an analog tachometer under a small visor, as well as a large digital display that displays large numbers of speed and other useful information. For some drivers, this decision may take some getting used to, but after 5 minutes behind the wheel of a car, everything falls into place. The speedometer is informative, the readings are read just fine. Externally, the dashboard is rectangular in shape, the numbers are clear, you should not be afraid of flare. It turned out stylish, non-standard, innovative. In a word, the surprise was a success, being very successful.

seats in the sedan are made of high-quality fabric, pleasant to touch. The profile is implemented as standard for a car of this price category: mediocre lateral support, poorly developed lumbar support. The rigidity of the seats is average, nothing unexpected. Seat height adjustment is available, and the power reserve of the backrest and cushion in the planes should be enough for the driver of any build. The pillow may seem a bit short for tall drivers.

Now a few words about the design of the dashboard and center console. An important element on the dashboard became such things as airflow deflectors. These round "ventilation" holes on the sides look very stylish and expensive. The designers did their best, the front of the cabin looks fashionable and modern. In the center are the usual rectangular airflow elements.

The next position in the interior that attracts attention is itself. center console. It protrudes above the common plane, received a functional shelf on top and side "ears", which are convenient open niches for storing small items. Emphasize this beauty silver lines in the upper part, which are contours. This is followed by a nice multimedia device with a medium-sized longitudinal narrow screen and two stylish controls at the extreme points. Button elements are placed in a separate area a little lower. Looks beautiful, do not say anything.

Climate control unit located under the center console lip and painted grey. At the top is an alarm button, and the bottom serves as a place for three large climate control knobs. They are round and have chrome rims.

Steering wheel has a large radius. Against the backdrop of the dashboard, it seems even larger than it really is. The rim is comfortable to hold, although it may feel a bit thin. Three-spoke steering wheel, multifunctional. Has the ability to adjust the reach and height.

Central tunnel sloping, separates the driver and passenger area in the front row, but it cannot be called very high. The gear selector lever has an ergonomic teardrop shape. Next comes the parking brake handle, which is classically located. The central armrest can be called "decorative", as it is narrow and does not promise high comfort on a long trip.

Aveo's interior is crowded with a lot of functional niches, drawers and compartments. The ergonomics of most solutions are excellent, there are no complaints about the functionality of the cabin. Illumination of the dashboard and control elements is made using blue, white and yellow colors.

In the back row, everything is much simpler, an ordinary sofa and boring dark plastic. There is a strong contrast compared to the front seats.

Volkswagen Polo

Strict German "classic" climbed into all corners of the interior space of a compact sedan. The high-quality texture of the plastic material, the excellent fit of the dashboard elements immediately attract attention. A minimum of chrome and a maximum of black became the main color scheme of the Polo interior.

seats Made of good quality fabric, pleasant to the touch. The profile is not rigid, everything is balanced for a typical city car. There is lateral support, but it is expressed at an average level. The anatomical structure of the chairs did not cause any comments, it is comfortable to sit and comfortable enough for the back and lower part. There are enough adjustments, you can change the height of the pillow, actively adjust the backrest, etc.

Central panel received nice rectangular air vents with soft outer corners. Chrome rims dilute the ascetic black color of the dashboard.

Herself console it is made so as to simultaneously protrude, but not visually stand out above the common plane. The upper part has a pair of deflectors, then there is a longitudinal row of function keys with a central emergency button. The audio system received a fairly wide monochrome display and two nice knobs on the sides that have a chrome finish.

Climate system has a similar design, only the screen is much smaller. It is worth recognizing that it is not always convenient to recognize the readings of the climate system from the driver's seat. It may sound a little picky, but it seemed so subjective.

Overhang central tunnel breaks off with a large niche, inside of which there is a cigarette lighter light. Next comes the gearshift lever itself. He is not very tall, he received a very comfortable handle and a thin chrome belt. The parking brake lever takes its usual place for most drivers.

Central armrest proudly rises above the "handbrake", not particularly interfering with the full use of this element. The armrest itself is wide, with good support for comfort on a long trip. Under the parking brake handle itself, there is a small recess for small items, which seems to be a convenient solution. No need to look for a place in the cabin for improvised little things.

Steering wheel has a great diameter. The steering wheel itself is light, three-spoke, multifunctional, covered with excellent material. You can observe a light chrome finish, which fits very organically into the overall concept of interior decoration.

Worth mentioning separately armrests on door cards. Their width is quite enough to not only lean on, but also to completely put the left hand in moments of downtime. The shape of the armrest itself also contributes directly to this function.

Dashboard classic, no frills. Tachometer and speedometer scales, and between them a trip computer. This element has a small diagonal, but given its convenient location, information is read without any problems. The main colors for highlighting elements are white and red.

The assessment of the interior should be given with one significant amendment. Everything will depend on the age of the appraiser, his aspirations and personal preferences. Adherents of the classics will be quite satisfied with the functional and modest design in the Volkswagen Polo. There is nothing superfluous, everything is in its rightful and painfully familiar places.
For those who strive for novelty and modernism, the Aveo salon will definitely look. It has style, personality and charm, which is perfectly combined with functionality and ergonomics. Chevrolet designers surprised with their bold decisions once again, and everything in the interior looks exclusively on the positive side. The Chevrolet Aveo captivates with its modern look and style, becoming the winner at this stage of the comparison of the two sedans.

Driving performance

Chevrolet Aveo got McPherson front with anti-roll bar. The rear part has a semi-independent, spring suspension.

Traction at the bottom is typical for a city sedan, the engine comes to life only in the middle rev range. This nature entails slightly increased fuel consumption when trying to set and maintain a brisk pace. Noise isolation is average, the engine is clearly audible in the cabin with an increase in speed, and the wheel arches are reminiscent of the change in the quality of the asphalt surface at speed.

Chassis settings allow you to comfortably move over small bumps and minor pits. The suspension is afraid of larger potholes, willingly breaking through with a deaf mumbling blow.

The steering wheel is light and crisp, with a well-defined zero position. On a straight line, the car willingly keeps a given trajectory. It should be borne in mind that the car is characterized by a small windage. Demolition of the front and rear axles can begin much earlier than many people think. So it is not worth breaking the thresholds of permitted speeds with active maneuvering.

Brakes and electronic systems form a typical tandem for a low-ambitious representative. Front mechanisms are disc, and the rear received drums.

Volkswagen Polo sedan equipped in front with the usual McPherson with anti-roll bar. At the rear, the sedan has a semi-independent, spring suspension design. Pickup is fairly even throughout the rev range. The soundproofing of the engine compartment is at a sufficient level, but the wheel arches are slightly inferior in terms of the quality of the interior protection from external noise.

Running energy-intensive, but you should not get carried away. The suspension makes its way relatively easily on sharp sections of asphalt, which is reflected by a muffled thud.

The steering settings make it easy and comfortable to drive a car that readily obeys the steering wheel and keeps a good trajectory on straight sections. The sedan shows good resistance to axial drift at a reasonable speed.

Front disc brakes, ventilated. Back mechanisms of drum type. The car slows down well, and electronic assistants are competently connected to work if necessary.

The driving performance of the Volkswagen Polo allows it to get ahead of the Chevrolet Aveo at this stage of the comparison. The German sedan turned out to be better balanced and more honest to drive. An important role in this assessment was played by suspension settings and sound insulation. These qualities allowed the Polo to become a more profitable car compared to the Chevrolet Aveo, which, although slightly, still lagged behind the competitor in terms of estimated performance and overall driving experience.

capacity

Chevrolet Aveo (Sonic) shows a good capacity in its class. The front is quite spacious, especially in height. The margin in width is not completely absent, but a slight tightness is felt, which is characteristic of the class of the car.

The rear row of seats makes a similar impression, but three on the rear sofa can still fit only with controversial and relative comfort. The advantage is the same headroom. But the margin for the legs is minimal, and to be honest, there is practically none.

The trunk has good capacity indicators, which are infringed by a narrow loading opening. This feature will not allow you to place a bulky load.

Volkswagen Polo sedan looks spacious. So it is in fact. There is plenty of shoulder room in the front row, but there may not be enough headroom.

A similar picture is observed in the back row. With a hint of comfort, you can place three riders on the back sofa. It is worth mentioning that the wheelbase provides quite an acceptable headroom in the area of rear passenger legroom. Only the free space above the head remains a little controversial.

The trunk is not the largest in the class, but a fairly wide opening for loading slightly compensates for this shortcoming. The second plus can be considered the ability to lay out the back of the seat in the back row with a small shelf.

The leader at this stage of the comparison is a car from Volkswagen, whose interior capacity turned out to be slightly better compared to a competitor. Polo offers more legroom for rear passengers, more space in width, the best boot compared to Aveo in terms of ergonomics and ease of loading. The only plus of the Chevrolet can be considered the height in the cabin and the larger trunk displacement, but this does not allow it to become the winner in the overall classification in terms of spaciousness.

Economy

The Volkswagen Polo gets a slight lead in terms of fuel efficiency, although this cannot be called a clear victory. The Chevrolet Aveo received slightly better dynamic and torque characteristics compared to its competitor.

Safety

Base model Chevrolet Aveo:

Base model Volkswagen Polo:

  1. ABS system
  2. driver/passenger front airbags

Euro NCAP crash test result: 5 stars.

The comparative review of car safety determines the winner of the Volkswagen Polo, since the presence of an anti-lock braking system (ABS) is an advantage of this car relative to the Chevrolet Aveo.

Greetings to all after a long silence. I often run to the site to read, but there was nothing to write about the car.

I decided to sum it up because of the possible sale of the car - the option is turning up to buy a bigger car and all-wheel drive from a friend at a reasonable price.

So, the mileage approached 35 thousand km., That is, I still roll only 10 thousand km. in a year. There were no breakdowns during this period; in the fall of 2013, a creak appeared in the front right suspension when speed bumps passed. Went to a friend's station. The verdict is this: there is no problem, creaking is not a reason to change parts if they are in excellent condition (this was said about the entire suspension). They sprayed the rubber bands with silicone, and there was no longer a squeak on the way back. I climbed on the VAGovodov forums - the owners of golf courses have a similar problem, and dealers say that this is such a feature. Although, as you can see, the trouble is that nothing breaks. Now, when replacing wheels with summer ones, for prevention, he himself sprinkled all the rubber bands with silicone, just in case.

Strengths:

  • Quality small car

Weak sides:

  • Dogs don't like

Review of Volkswagen Polo Sedan 1.6 (Volkswagen Polo) 2013

Relatives got a polo sedan. At the automarket I wrote that I own it, but otherwise it did not allow me to publish a review. Of course, the model has long been known and widespread, almost everyone said. Well, I will also describe my impressions, suddenly it will be useful to someone.

Let's start with the purchase. Initially needed the most budgetary normal cars with clearance. In fact, the choice was between Solaris and polo. In general, the machines are very comparable in terms of price, performance, and size. The choice in favor of the polo was made based on the advantages of the laconic design of the polo over the rattle Solaris spaceship, as well as after reading horror stories on the Internet about the quality of the Solaris. It should be noted that the purely external quality of the cars is absolutely comparable. Everything is very neat.

When we bought it, we really wanted to order an option with a heated windshield, but we would have to wait 3-4 months, and the dealer had a ready-made basic equipment with air conditioning and a head unit. As a result, they sacrificed Wishlist in favor of speed.

Strengths:

  • Design
  • Engine
  • thoughtfulness
  • Price-quality ratio

Weak sides:

  • budget
  • not a hatchback
  • Still noisy in the cabin.

Review of Volkswagen Polo 1.4 (Volkswagen Polo) 2011 Part 4

Some facts and figures.

So VW Polo 1.4 MKPP5 Comfortline sold after 2.75 years of operation with a mileage of 45 thousand km.

The average consumption for the entire run was exactly 8.5 liters. The highway/city ratio is also exactly 50/50. Consumption on the highway (at normal speeds) 6-7l, in the city 9.5-10.5l / 100km.

Strengths:

  • Very nice car in every respect

Weak sides:

  • High consumption in the city (this is a feature of the car in general, or specifically my copy, I did not understand)
  • The climate control dial is slightly tilted up
  • Sometimes the design outweighs the practicality (in particular, the front bumper, like the Cross Polo, would not greatly worsen the aerodynamics, but improve the geometric cross-country ability)

The active promotion of German "people's cars" to the broad Russian masses for a long time was hampered by high price tags. Now that the model range has been replenished with a truly affordable Volkswagen, the public has poured into dealerships, accustomed to counting every ruble. Prices for the Polo sedan start at 399,000 rubles for the Trendline version with a 1.6 engine (105 hp) and “mechanics”. A car with an “automatic” will cost at least 512,300 rubles, and this is one of the best deals on the market, especially since the “automatic” here is quite modern, 6-speed, with manual shifting. The Chevrolet Aveo has an old automatic transmission, 4-speed, without manual mode. And it is available only in the most expensive version of the LS, paired with a 1.4 engine (101 hp), at a price of 513,880 rubles. At first glance, Polo looks clearly preferable, but then again - the queue ... Perhaps Aveo is not much worse?

In the city

In an urban environment, Chevrolet is really not much inferior to a freshly baked rival: despite the fact that the “automatic” is not the most advanced here, Aveo accelerates briskly and organically fits into the rhythm of the metropolis. It's lighter and shorter than the Polo, it needs less parking space, but even the power steering at low speeds can feel tight, especially for women. The Volkswagen steering wheel is easier to turn in parking lots, but the dimensions feel worse - the parking radar, apparently, will become one of the most requested options for the Polo. The accelerating dynamics of a German car will pleasantly surprise many, however, in a city where the speed is constantly changing and frequent switching is required, the “automatic” works, albeit quickly, but somewhat nervously - a consequence of a high degree of adaptability.

In the country

Volkswagen Polo confidently pulls ahead on highways: excellent directional stability, confident overtaking and energy-intensive suspension make long trips on this car quite comfortable and not too tiring for the driver. Fast driving on the Chevrolet Aveo requires much more effort: at three-digit speeds, the lack of steps in the gearbox becomes obvious - you have to overtake under the strained howl of the engine.

Direct Aveo holds worse than Polo, which, coupled with not the most informative steering, is tiring.

Passengers, on the other hand, are more concerned about the shuddering and buildup of the body on large bumps in the roadway and the high level of noise. In addition, Aveo is forced to stop for refueling more often: its tank holds 10 liters less gasoline than the Polo.

Controllability

Volkswagen cars have always been distinguished by the highest level of chassis refinement, and the Polo sedan demonstrates the breed without any discounts on budget. Exemplary informative steering is combined with no less exemplary directional stability, rolls in corners are minimal - driving Polo along a winding country path is easy and pleasant. The only thing that can be reproached for is the lack of informativeness of the brake drive, but only those who have traveled on the Polo hatchback will notice this - it is easier to control deceleration there. Aveo brakes in normal modes are quite comfortable and reliable, but during an emergency stop you have to apply too much force to the brake pedal, and the Brake Assist system, alas, is not even offered here as an option, as well as ESP, then Polo has a controllability stabilization system included in the optional Premium package.

In addition to the lack of ESP, the desire to scorch on the Aveo is beaten off by a lack of feedback on the steering wheel, low stability at high speed and significant body roll in corners, which is frightening when driving with a full load. Volkswagen Polo is more tolerant of loading and in general gives the impression of a safer and more pleasant car to drive.

Ergonomics and comfort

Compared to the hatchback, the interior design of the three-volume Polo bears obvious traces of simplification and cheapening. This almost did not affect the ergonomics of the driver's seat, but from an aesthetic point of view, the sedan lost a lot: the plastic is hard like wood everywhere, other finishing materials are unpretentious and gray, but nothing creaks on the go. The driver's seat has a wide range of adjustments, but the too convex profile of the backrest and the stepwise adjustment of its angle of inclination interfere with choosing a comfortable fit. In the back seat, by the standards of the class, it is very spacious: there is a pleasant supply of space in the legs, but there is practically no overhead. Sitting three of us on the second row is not very pleasant, but possible. The noise level in the cabin is moderate, the acoustic palette is dominated by the sound of the engine, but thanks to a sufficient number of gears in the box, you don’t have to listen to its hoarse howl very often.

The Chevrolet Aveo engine also sounds loud, and you hear its high-speed howl more often than in the Polo, since the gearbox has four gears instead of six. Worse in Aveo and anti-gravel protection: on a country road on the bottom and wheel arches, small pebbles drum every now and then.

The Aveo's interior is simple, but quite elegant and cheerful. The driver's seat has a more successful profile than that of the opponent, but less developed lateral support, which, with noticeable rolls in corners, is perceived as a significant drawback. The rear seat is noticeably tighter at the legs than in the Polo (smaller wheelbase has an effect), and there is just as little headroom. A third passenger can be seated here only if absolutely necessary, since those sitting at the edges in this case will have to sit half-turned.

The standard audio systems of both cars sound rather mediocre, equipped with not the most sensitive radio tuners, but they read MP3s properly. Volkswagen Polo reproduces low frequencies better, but medium and high frequencies are worse, which makes the sound seem muffled; Chevrolet Aveo, on the contrary, gives out relatively good tops and middles, but weak mumbling bottoms. Both will cause dissatisfaction even among a novice music lover, but it is quite suitable for listening to the radio.

Practicality

Both cars have substantial luggage compartments that can fit a lot more than you'd expect from a compact car. If the load is not heavy, but overall, then both Polo and Aveo allow you to increase the capacity of the trunk by folding the rear seats. The difference between the rivals is that the Aveo only folds the back, revealing a narrow and uneven opening, while the Polo can fold both the back and the cushion, and the opening is larger and evener.

Under the floor of both trunks, there is enough space for a full-size spare wheel and a small tool kit.

In my opinion...
