Mustang Shelby GT500: the most powerful road-going Ford. Mustang Shelby GT500: the most powerful road-going Ford Ford Mustang year of production

The sixth generation of the legendary American muscle car Ford Mustang in fastback coupe and convertible bodies made its world debut in January 2014 at an international show in Detroit, but its preview took place on December 5, 2013 (simultaneously in six cities around the world - in Dearborn, Los Angeles, Barcelona, New York, Sydney and Shanghai).

Compared to previous models, the car has changed dramatically - it has received beautiful styling, modern technical components, new engines and previously unavailable equipment.

In mid-January 2017, the “American” underwent a planned update, one of the main innovations of which was the appearance of a 10-speed automatic transmission instead of a 6-speed transmission. However, Ford didn’t stop there and thoroughly shook up the entire car: they “refreshed” its appearance, corrected the interior, added new options, modernized the engines and removed the 3.7-liter naturally aspirated engine from the lineup.

Externally, the sixth generation Mustang is beautiful and quite modern, but a piece of primitiveness still lingers in it. The streamlined and wide body of the muscle car with a long hood, low roofline and short tail extension is topped with “evil” front and stylish rear lighting, which together creates a powerful and insanely brutal image. The picture is completed by huge “rollers” of wheels measuring from 18 to 20 inches.

The “sixth” Ford Mustang is available in two body versions – a fastback coupe and a convertible with a multi-layer fabric top. The “closed” two-door is 4784 mm long, 1381 mm high (the convertible is 13 mm taller) and 1916 mm wide, and the “open” car is 13 mm taller. A muscle car has a 2,720 mm distance between the axles, regardless of the solution.

The interior of the Mustang looks organic and stylish, and as befits a “thoroughbred” sports car, it resembles an airplane cockpit. The characteristic symmetrical front panel in the central part houses an 8-inch “TV” of the multimedia system, a “trapezoid” of the multimedia installation and a quartet of toggle switches that control the driving settings. Behind the weighty multifunctional “donut” with a three-spoke design are the “cylinders” of the speedometer and tachometer with a color display of the on-board computer in the middle (a “drawn” instrument cluster with a 12-inch screen and a bunch of settings is available as an option). Mostly high-quality materials are used in the decoration, but there are also plastics with hard textures.

For front passengers, the sixth generation Ford Mustang has anatomical seats with a grippy profile, electric adjustments and ventilation, but in powerful versions they give way to Recaro buckets. In both coupes and convertibles, the rear seats are better suited to children or compact passengers due to limited legroom and headroom.

The luggage compartment volume of the Mustang in the coupe body is 408 liters; in the convertible, this figure is reduced to 332 liters due to the folding awning mechanism.

The soft roof of the “open” version is semi-automatic, and its transformation in motion is impossible.

Specifications. For the 6th generation Ford Mustang, the European specification has two standard petrol modifications, each of which has a 6-speed manual or an optional 10-speed automatic:

  • The base version of the muscle car is equipped with a 2.3-liter EcoBoost four with turbocharging, direct injection and variable valve timing, which produces 317 horsepower at 5500 rpm and 432 Nm of torque at 3000 rpm. With such a “heart,” the car accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 5.8 seconds and reaches a maximum speed of 250 km/h, and its “fuel gluttony” does not exceed 8-10 liters in mixed driving conditions for every “hundred.”

  • Engine compartment of the “top” version GT filled with a 5.0-liter eight-cylinder V-engine with combined gasoline injection, generating 421 “horses” at 6500 rpm and 530 Nm of torque. As a result, the Mustang conquers the starting jerk to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds, and the “maximum” capabilities are fixed at 250 km/h. In the combined cycle, the car's fuel consumption varies from 12 to 13.6 liters per 100 km.

Before the update (carried out in January 2017), another unit was also offered in the USA - a 3.7-liter V-shaped “six” with a distributed fuel supply, producing 305 “mares” at 6500 rpm and 366 Nm of torque at 4000 rpm minute.

The “sixth” Ford Mustang is built on a new “trolley”, similar in architecture to the front-wheel drive CD4 platform, which “flaunts” a fully independent suspension - MacPherson struts with a double hinge system at the front and an advanced “multi-link” on the subframe at the rear. For an additional fee, the two-door is equipped with adaptive MagneRide shock absorbers filled with magnetorheological fluid (which, before the update, were the privilege of exclusively “hot” modifications of the GT350/GT350R).
The American muscle car is equipped with rack and pinion steering with electric power steering, which has three operating modes – Normal, Sport and Comfort. All wheels accommodate powerful ventilated discs of the braking system (the size of the front mechanisms, depending on the version, varies from 320 to 380 mm) with ABS, EBD and other modern “assistants”. By default, all versions of the Mustang are equipped with a limited-slip rear differential.

In addition to the basic versions, there are also more “charged” options in the Ford Mustang palette, and one of them is Shelby GT350. Along with an even more aggressive appearance and some modifications in the interior, this car has a lightweight body, reinforced suspension with adaptive shock absorbers and an effective brake system with Brembo calipers. But the main thing about it is the 5.2-liter V8 Voodoo engine, which produces 533 “stallions” at 7500 rpm and 582 Nm at 4750 rpm.

An even more interesting version - Shelby GT350R. It has the same power unit as the car without the letter “R”, but at the same time its body is even lighter, the wheel rims are made of carbon fiber, and the functionality includes some “racing” equipment.

Well, the most “extreme” performance of the sixth generation Mustang is GT King Cobra. Externally, such a muscle car does not differ much from its usual “brother”, and the main emphasis in it is on improving the technical part.

It is driven by a 5.0-liter V8 with a supercharger, the performance of which exceeds 600 horsepower. In fact, “King Cobra” is a complete package of modifications to the engine and other components and assemblies.

Options and prices. In the USA, sales of the restyled Ford Mustang will start in the fall of 2017, and it will reach the countries of the Old World in early 2018 (it is possible that its sales will begin in Russia).
On the European market, in particular in Germany, the “sixth” Ford Mustang in the pre-reform solution is sold at a price of 38,000 euros (~2.42 million rubles at the current exchange rate) for a fastback coupe, and a convertible will cost 4,000 euros more. The muscle car should reach Russia, but exactly when this will happen is still unknown.
In the “base” the car is equipped with seven airbags (the convertible has five), ABS, a multimedia system with a color screen, dual-zone climate control, a rear view camera, power accessories, cruise and many other modern features.

The current Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, which hit the market at the end of 2012, has a long and interesting history behind it.

Initially a purely American car, created on the basis of the Ford Falcon. He was named after the mascot of Southern Methodist University (Dallas, USA), the wild, unbridled stallion that appears on the logo of the SMU Mustangs football team, and replaced the little pony “Peruna”, whose nine generations brought them good luck in games for seventy years.

The Ford Mustang was shown at the New York World's Fair on April 17, 1964, and this date is considered to be its birthday. It caused a real stir among dealers on all continents. Already in March 1964, the first Ford Mustang rolled off the assembly line in Dearborn, Michigan - a snow-white convertible with a red interior.

The combination of sporty design, low price and excellent dynamic performance led to more than a million units being sold in 18 months. And why should it be surprising that a whole class of cars (Pony car) was named after the Ford Mustang, and during the Second World War a long-range fighter was named after it: the North American P-51 Mustang.

When the Ford Mustang went on sale, there was nothing like it on the market - the Chevrolet Corvair Monza and the Pontiac Firebird, which appeared a little later, could not even come close to its performance. And I could only compete with him in terms of characteristics.

The high-tech version of the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, modified by Carroll Shelby, was one of the most popular cars at the time from 1967 to 1970. Its engine produces 355 hp. at 5,400 rpm, with a maximum torque of 580 Nm at 3,200 rpm, it could accelerate the car from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds.

In 2006, after a long break, as a result of the joint efforts of Carroll Shelby and the Ford SVT (Special Vehicle Team) division, which develops “charged” modifications of production cars, the most powerful Ford Mustang of that time was presented at the Detroit Auto Show.

Both the coupe and convertible were equipped with a 5.4 liter V8 engine producing 475 hp and became true masters of the road. His modification of the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Red Stripe with a 500 hp power unit. then valued at $41,675.

The 40th anniversary of the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 was celebrated with the release of the Shelby Cobra GT500KR, demonstrated at the 2007 New York Auto Show. “King of the Road” (transcript KR) was equipped with a new V8 engine, also 5.4 liters, but with a power of 540 hp.

In 2006, the GT500KR went under the hammer for $600,000. All proceeds from the sale went to the Carroll Shelby Children's Fund. Only 1,000 Shelby Cobra GT500KR units were produced.

In 2008, a special version of the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500KR KITT was created especially for the series “Knight Rider”. Thus, the Ford Mustang re-appeared in the role of the actor. Previously, it was used in the remake of the film “Gone in 60 Seconds”.

In 2011, the engine power of the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 was increased by another 10 hp, and it amounted to 550 hp. At the same time, the power unit has become lighter and more economical - fuel consumption has been reduced to 10.2 l/100 km on the highway, and 15.7 l/100 km in the city.

But this was not enough for the producers. The 2013 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, presented to the public at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show, was equipped with a 5.8-liter turbocharged engine producing 662 hp. The supercar's maximum speed increased to 325 km/h, but consumption in the city remained 15.7 l/100 km, on the highway - 9.8 l/100 km.

The coupe receives additional improvements in the form of LED taillights, an aluminum hood and a uniform welded steel body. It does not have a radiator grille, since the power unit requires intensive cooling. The aggressive front bumper and 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels with Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperCar tires give the supercar an aggressive look.

Overall dimensions of the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, mm: length - 4,780, width - 1,877, height - 1,391 (coupe), 1,399 (convertible), wheelbase - 2,720. Ground clearance (ground clearance) is 118 mm. The coupe weighs 3,852 kg.

Improvements in the latest generation GT500 also include the Tremec TR6060 six-speed manual transmission. All the improvements have led to the fact that acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes the Mustang Shelby GT 500 only 3.5 seconds. That's faster than the Chevrolet Corvette Z06.

Advanced AdvanceTrac stability control and traction control help achieve better handling on any road surface, while upgraded Brembo brakes guarantee short stopping distances. The Torsen differential provides good traction even in difficult driving conditions, and the adjustable Bilstein shock absorbers provide a comfortable ride. The power of the Shelby GT500 engines is constantly and steadily increasing.

Again at the Barrett-Jackson auction, but in 2012, a release with an 862 hp engine was announced. And at the 2012 New York Auto Show it was presented with a 1100 hp engine. To withstand such power, its chassis was further strengthened.

The Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 supercar went on sale in America at the end of 2012. Its base price is $54,200. Optionally, the Shelby GT500 can be had with the SVT Performance package, which costs $3,495 more and the glass roof adds $1,995.

The GT500 is assembled in Flat Rock, Michigan. Unfortunately, the GT500 is not sold in Russia, but with the advent of the new generation model, official deliveries may begin. True, the cost of the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 for Russian motorists will be much higher than what is being asked for in the States.

The first generation Ford Mustang was first shown at the New York World's Fair on April 17, 1964 and made a great impression on spectators. The initial version of the car with a 2.8-liter engine (102 hp) accelerated only to 150 km/h. But the list of options included V8 engines with a power of up to 380 hp, an automatic transmission and a lot of other equipment. The first Ford Mustang was offered in three body styles: coupe, fastback and convertible. Over the years of production, it has lengthened from 4613 to 4923 mm.

The production of the first models continued until 1973. In total, almost three million first-generation cars saw the light of day. The "base" version was priced at $2,368 (roughly $18,500 these days).

2nd generation, 1973–1978

The second Ford Mustang, shortened to 4445 mm, developed on the basis of the compact one, was released in 1973. The cars were equipped with a 2.3 liter four (89 hp), a 2.8 V6 (106 hp) or a 4.9 liter V8 (131-141 hp). The car was offered in two versions: a two-door coupe or a three-door hatchback

Despite poor dynamics and poor handling, about 1.1 million cars were sold until 1978, with prices starting at $3,134.

3rd generation, 1978–1993

The third generation Ford Mustang lasted on the assembly line from 1978 to 1993. At this time, it was again lengthened to 4562 mm, and lighter materials were used for production. The previous engine range was supplemented by a 2.3-liter turbo-four (118 hp), and more powerful (up to 203 hp) engines with fuel injection began to appear under the hoods of Mustangs only in 1983.

The result of the restyling of the “third” Mustang in 1986 was the Mustang SVT, boosted to 238 hp. "eight" 4.9 liters. In just 15 years, 2.6 million third-generation cars were produced. The car was also sold on the American market under the name.

4th generation, 1993–2004

GM's plans to revive the model prompted Ford to develop the fourth generation Mustang in 1993. The new car was based on a strengthened old platform. The wheelbase increased slightly, the brakes became disc brakes in the “base”, and ABS was installed at an additional cost.

The “basic” version of the “fourth” Mustang was equipped with 3.8-liter V6 engines (147-193 hp), and the GT, Cobra and Mach I versions were equipped with 4.9 V8 engines (218-243 hp) and 4.6 liters (264-390 hp). From that time on, only models with coupe or convertible bodies began to go on sale. The starting price increased from $10,810 to $13,365 (about $22,000 today).

In 1998, during the restyling, the car's exterior was redesigned in the spirit of the New Edge design, sound insulation was improved, a traction control system appeared, and the top versions of the Cobra received an independent rear suspension. Production of the fourth generation Mustang ended in 2004, by which time approximately 1.6 million vehicles had been produced.

5th generation, 2004–2014

The first copy of the fifth generation Ford Mustang was released in 2004. The new cars had a simplified suspension and interior; the cars were based on their own D2C platform.

The new Mustang was equipped with V6 4.0 (231 hp) and V8 4.6 liter (304-450 hp) engines combined with a five- and six-speed manual transmission or a five- and six-speed automatic transmission. “Charged” versions with V8s 5.4 and 5.8 produced up to 672 hp.

The cost of the “basic” model was $19,000 (about $24,000 today). In 2009, the car underwent a restyling, but this did not save it from declining sales.

6th generation, 2014

The sixth generation Ford Mustang sports car debuted on the American market in September 2014, and in 2015 the car officially began to be sold in Europe - for the first time in the history of the model. The Ford company has refused to sell Mustangs in Russia.

Coupes and convertibles are equipped with a 2.3 EcoBoost turbo engine (317 hp) or a naturally aspirated V8 5.0 engine with 421 hp. s., and the Ford Mustang is also equipped with a V6 3.7 engine that develops 300 horsepower. Cars are equipped with a six-speed manual or automatic transmission with the same number of steps. All versions have rear wheel drive.

In the American market, the Ford Mustang is offered at a price of 23.5 thousand dollars, in Western Europe the car costs from 35 thousand euros.

MANAGER'S TRIUMPH

The presentation of the first production Ford Mustang in 1964 is considered one of the most successful in the history of the automotive industry, and the legend owes its appearance to the resounding failure of the previous model, the Edsel. Ford urgently needed to save the situation, and general manager of the concern Lee Iacocca, the future author of the best-selling book “Manager's Career,” together with a team of designers, economists and marketers, created the first Mustang concept in March 1964. The car, which became the progenitor of the Pony Car class, easily recognizes the features of Ford's luxury cars Continental Mark II 1957 and Thunderbird 1954, as well as design elements of Maserati, Lincoln and Chevrolet.

It’s interesting that the iconic car got its name and the figurine of a running wild horse on the radiator grill at the last moment: they planned to call it Cougar (“Panther”), but Iacocca’s marketers decided that the cat family represented by Jaguar was enough for the market. There is another version of the origin of the name - in honor of the single-seat fighter of the Second World War North American P-51 Mustang, but in both cases the car reflected the spirit of rebellion and was a real “American dream” on wheels.

Success for Ford was not only desirable, but necessary: the car, which collectors call the 64-1/2 Mustang, was produced as a 1965 model, focusing on market research. In the event of a repeated failure, as with Edsel, the concern could have gone bankrupt, but Mustang did not disappoint: after a high-profile March presentation on television, 22 thousand copies were sold on the first day, and by the end of the year - over a quarter of a million!

The Ford Falcon Sprint became the aggregate donor for the bestseller - the model received, in particular, the engine and front suspension from it. The engineers made the rear wheel dependent, the brakes were drum brakes on all wheels, and a vacuum booster and power steering were offered as options. The basic set included a 2.8-liter engine producing 102 hp. s., which could accelerate cars to 150 km/h, fastback and coupe bodies. Later, a convertible body was added to the list of options, and the list of options included an automatic transmission and V8 engines with power up to 380 hp. With.

IN THE CHASE OF SUCCESS

The Mustang was a "poor man's sports car": comfortable and beautiful, although not luxury, and it sold quite successfully. But the competitors were not asleep: the very next year, Iacocca’s team had to update the appearance of the Mustang in order to beat the Plymouth Barracuda on the market. In the same year, new interior options were introduced: sun visors, a clock and tachometer, and electric side mirrors. The suspension and front disc brakes have also been improved.

The blue and white modification of the Mustang Shelby GT-350 with a V8 engine producing 306 hp was considered especially chic. With. Its authorship belongs to car designer and Formula 1 racer Carroll Shelby, who two years later created the GT 500 with a seven-liter V8 engine producing 335 hp. s., for the sake of installation of which the engine compartment had to be specially extended. In the spring of 1968, both Shelby cars, the GT-350 and GT-500, were renamed the Ford Mustang Shelby Cobra, which received another body variation - a convertible.

In 1969, the Mustang underwent a global modernization. The length increased by 10 cm, the weight increased by more than 50 kg, and the line was divided into three versions: the economical E, the expensive Grande and Mach 1 with a 335 hp engine. With. The production of the racing series began: the first Mustang Boss 302 was created as a competitor to the Chevrolet Camaro Z28 for Trans Am oval tracks, and the Boss 429, of which only 1,358 copies were produced, was equipped with a giant seven-liter engine that produced 375 hp. With. and worked together with a manual four-speed transmission, spoilers and an oil cooler - already for the NASCAR series.

In 1971-1973, the heavier Mustangs could not find a niche. Some wanted to see them as simplified aggressive dragsters, while others wanted them to be nice family cars, but in fact they were neither one nor the other. The gasoline crisis also contributed, which ultimately led to an upgrade - again under the leadership of Iacocca, who became president of Ford Motor.

REBIRTH OF A LEGEND

The era of the Mustang II was 1974–1978, which was marked by a return to classic dimensions and the installation of an economical four-cylinder Kent engine with a power of only 86 hp. With. as standard.

Buyers liked the changes - almost 400 thousand Mustang II cars were purchased, and in 1979 the third generation appeared on a unified Fox Platform with European engines in the basic configuration and large V8s in the top-end configuration. At that time, due to the energy crisis, the cars were equipped with the weakest engines in Mustang history - the Ford Windsor 255 V8 with only 120 hp. With.

In 1987, the car was marked by a new stage of restyling, and in 1994, by a major reworking of the SN-95 chassis, which became a marker for the fourth generation of the Ford Mustang.

In 1998, customers were offered the Sport trim for the first and last time, with black vinyl hood and triple split taillights. By 1999, when the Mustang celebrated its 35th anniversary, the New Edge design concept robbed the model of the smoothness characteristic of the brand's classic cars.

By the beginning of the fifth generation, the Mach 1 was returned to the Mustang line, and all Cobra models were equipped with 4.6-liter engines with an Eaton mechanical supercharger. In 2004, the Ford Mustang acquired a new S-197 platform and began to look like its 60s self.

New and vintage Mustangs remain a dream for many car enthusiasts: in this sense, nothing has changed since Lee Iacocca's team put up a presentation "Mustang Paddocks" on the football field of the University of Chicago in 1964. By the sixth generation, the popularity of the Mustang had not fallen: in 2015, the concern introduced models with three different EcoBoost engines and an expanded list of options, and in 2018 it again modernized the model range and announced the development of the Ford Mustang Cobra Jet, which can accelerate to a maximum speed of 240 km/h in 8 seconds.

CAR RUN ACROSS THE SCREEN

It would be difficult to find a car that would leave a more noticeable mark on culture. No car has appeared in films as often as the Mustang, which has appeared in half a million films. The classic 1965 car is driven by Paul Sheldon, the protagonist of the film “Misery” based on King’s novel, the light-colored Mustang convertible was filmed in the film about agent 007 “Goldfinger”, Will Smith drives a Shelby GT500 in the desolate New York in “I Am Legend”, and the 1971 Ford Mustang, nicknamed Eleanor, is even listed in the credits of the original seventies film "Gone in 60 Seconds" - and this is only a microscopic part of the films featuring the legendary muscle cars. That is why even those who have absolutely no knowledge of cars know what this sports car looks like.

“Mustangs” inspire not only film directors, but also organizers of various “remakes” on TV shows. One of them is professional racer Brad Deberti, the hero of the Discovery Channel project “Turboduet”.

To install 18-inch-wide Mickey Thompson racing wheels with custom Forgiato wheels on the rear axle, the rear suspension had to be replaced with an independent Watson Racing one - with different arms, shocks and springs from H&R Performance.

Together with his father Doug, a famous tuning master who has been remaking cars for more than a quarter of a century, Brad makes unique cars, but not only for his own pleasure. The younger Deberti lives for racing, with victories in many championships behind him, and ahead of him is the dream of driving in the NASCAR racing series.

Wheel arch extensions complemented the TS Designs body kit with an Air Design wing, and a new hood was also made. In addition, the car received color-changing Bullseye Retro LED headlights and a Kicker audio system, which required the removal of the rear seats and spare tire.

Father and son work together in the workshop, remaking and selling tuned cars to make this wish come true, and the next project of the Turbo Duet was the Ford Mustang, which the Debertis prepared for SEMA - the largest tuning show in the world. The team got a great chance to loudly declare itself in the world of tuning and get new clients.

The engine was boosted to 750 hp. With. due to the installation of Roush Supercharger and a new Borla exhaust system, and the factory brakes were replaced with more efficient Ford Performance ones.

The brand new five-liter Ford Mustang GT 2018 model year was provided to them free of charge by the manufacturer itself, but all tuning costs fell on the team. The Debertis immediately scanned the car and created a 3D model, making it easier for themselves to create the body kit: Doug and Brad decided to combine classic muscle car design and the latest Ford developments in the project.

A racing roll cage and a new radiator grille were welded for the car, carbon elements and racing bucket seats were installed in the interior. There was also some repainting: the team worked under a tight deadline, but attention was paid to every detail.

The car turned out to be impressive, but you will find out whether Brad and Doug managed to surprise their colleagues at the tuning show in the “Turbo Duet” program, which starts on May 21 and will air on Mondays at 23:00 on the Discovery Channel.

Review of the Ford Mustang GT 2018: car exterior, interior, technical content of the model, security systems, equipment and price tag. At the end of the article is a video review of the 2018 Ford Mustang GT!

Review content:

The official debut of the sixth generation of the Ford Mustang muscle car took place at the beginning of 2014, and exactly three years later in Detroit the manufacturer presented its updated modification.

In comparison with the pre-restyling version, the car received a slightly retouched appearance and the interior acquired new options and upgraded engines, among which the powerful 5-liter gasoline engine installed on the Ford Mustang GT modification, which will be discussed later, is of particular interest.

Before moving on to the review, let us remind you that The first Ford Mustang rolled off the assembly line back in 1964., after which it managed to change six generations and sell millions of copies around the world. Moreover, despite its more than 50-year history, the model remains to this day one of the most desirable and best-selling pony cars in the world.

Exterior of the Ford Mustang GT

The updated Mustang GT has an attractive, aggressive and dynamic appearance, which still retains the signature features of the original model.

Front of the car is represented by a massive hexagonal radiator grille with the family emblem of a stallion in the center, a predatory look of head optics with LED filling, a new hood and a muscular front bumper with spectacular air ducts, a splitter and horizontal stripes of foglights.

It is noteworthy that in comparison with the pre-restyling model, the leading edge of the hood of the new Mustang became 20 mm lower, which made it possible to increase the aerodynamic properties of the car.

New product profile It has classic muscle car proportions: a long hood, domed roof, massive wheel arches and large alloy wheels. Separately, it is worth noting the presence of elegant stampings on the sidewalls and the “5.0” nameplate, once again informing us that this is the most powerful version of the car.

Strict feed flaunts spectacular LED side lights, a spoiler on the trunk lid and a monumental rear bumper with a pre-installed sports diffuser and a pair of double exhaust pipes. The “GT” nameplate is also located here.

The external dimensions of the model have the following characteristics:

Length, mm4784
Width, mm1916
Height, mm1381
Wheelbase, mm2720

The track of the front and rear wheels is 1.574 and 1.651 m, respectively. The exact ground clearance height has not been announced, but it is unlikely to differ much from its predecessor.

Available to potential car buyers wide palette of body colors, including three new colors, as well as 12 variations of wheels shod with low-profile tires from Michelin.

Mustang GT interior design

Compared to the pre-restyling version, the new Mustang GT has a more attractive and modern interior, which is due to the upgraded Sync Connect multimedia center, as well as a 12-inch digital instrument panel.

Driving a car is carried out through a strict and attractive multifunction steering wheel with the Mustang logo in the center. The central panel, in addition to the multimedia and information complex, is represented by three laconic air duct deflectors, a music and climate system control unit, as well as a number of mechanical toggle switches responsible for activating various muscle car systems. It is also worth noting that the materials used and the assembly are at a very, very high level (although there were also hard plastics), so that even after a while the interior will not be bothered by squeaks and rattles.

Front passengers the car offers anatomical seats with a grippy profile, where a person of any size can easily sit. An alternative is Recaro sports bucket seats, which reliably support the passenger's body even during high-speed cornering.

Since the interior has a 2+2 layout, there is a small sofa behind the front seats that can only accommodate children and petite girls. However, it is worth recognizing that the Ford Mustang never sought to play the role of a family car

Trunk volume It is small and only 408 liters, although this will be enough to fit the luggage of two adults and two children going on a short trip.

2018 Ford Mustang GT Specifications

The restyled Ford Mustang GT is based on a new platform that has a similar layout to the front-wheel drive CD-4 truck, represented by a fully independent suspension architecture at the front and rear, which, in turn, is represented by MacPherson struts and a modernized multi-link on the subframe, respectively.

As an option, the car can be equipped with an adaptive MagneRide shock absorber system, inside of which there is a special magnetorheological fluid.

Under the hood of the standard Ford Mustang is a 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine producing 317 hp, while the “GT” modification has a more productive 5-liter gasoline V8 generating 466 hp. and 569 Nm of maximum torque.

It’s worth mentioning here that the increase in power, in comparison with the pre-restyling model, was achieved thanks to the increased compression ratio to 12:1 (versus 11:1 previously) and the installation of a combined fuel supply system.

The engine is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission or an advanced 10-speed automatic transmission, with which the car provides acceleration from 0 to 100 in 3.9 seconds. and can reach a top speed of 250 km/h (electronically limited). Fuel consumption in mixed driving mode ranges from 11-12 l/100 km.

Already in the base, the muscle car is equipped with an electric power steering wheel, which has several operating modes: normal, sport and comfortable.

Brake system is represented by powerful disc brakes with a ventilation system, the diameter of which is 320 and 380 mm on the front and rear wheels, respectively. Separately, it is worth highlighting the presence of a self-locking rear differential and several preset operating modes of the suspension, engine and other electronics, allowing you to choose the most optimal one depending on your driving style and the type of road surface under the wheels
