Peugeot 406 from the movie taxi specifications. A copy of Luc Besson's Marseille taxi was made by a guy from the Volkovysk. "Bordeaux Frenchie"

In Russia, the Peugeot 406 began to rapidly gain popularity in the late 90s, when its official sales began. "Peugeot 406" has become one of the most popular in the first place because of the favorable price. But they chose the “Frenchwoman” not only by calculation, but also by love - for a stylish, fast-paced design, a spacious interior, silence and excellent handling. Today, dealers are selling the last copies, but this model will be in demand in the secondary market for many years to come. A four- or five-year-old Peugeot 406 costs $10,000-12,000 in Moscow.

PEUGEOT 406 HISTORY:

1995 The debut of the Peugeot 406 sedan. Engines - four-cylinder in-line, gasoline, XU series: 8-valve 1.6 l, 65 kW / 88 l. With.; 16-valve 1.8 l, 66 kW / 90 l. With. 1999 Restyling: bumpers, radiator grille, headlights have changed, a horizontal strip appeared in the center of the rear lights, 15-inch wheels on all cars. The list of additional equipment has expanded. Engine modification V6 2.9 l, 152 kW / 207 l. With.
year 2000. New EW series engines: 1.8L, 85kW/116HP. With. and 2.2 l, 116 kW / 158 hp
year 2001. EW direct injection engine 2.0L, 103kW/140HP. With. (not supplied to Russia), turbodiesel DW 2.2 l, 98 kW / 133 hp. With.
2003 The appearance has changed: chrome edging and inserts on moldings have appeared. The list of standard equipment has expanded (folding mirrors, pillows, etc.).

For nine years, the fawn has acquired a whole range of engines. The market of third countries has contributed to their diversity (the French also include Russia): since 1997, “four hundred and sixths” designed for “92nd” gasoline, including leaded, have been supplied here. The engine model is easy to identify - it is indicated in VIN positions six through eight. If the middle character of the three-digit code is F, this is a motor for Western Europe, if 6 is for Russia. Resistance to leaded fuel is no longer fundamental, but the absence of a lambda probe and a converter on an eight-valve 1.8 liter (L6A) is a trump card, especially for the Russian outback: the simpler the car, the better.
The most controversial choice is the 1.6L engine, inherited from the 405th model. Although he is able to accelerate a heavy car to 175 km / h, overtaking will have to be done at the pace of the Zhiguli. The engine is not very attractive in terms of economy either - fuel consumption is only 0.3–0.4 liters less than that of 1.8 liters. In addition, the latter can be found under the "92nd" gasoline, and 1.6 liters were produced only in the European version. The optimal choice is 1.8 or 2.0 liters. The first will please economy, the second - dynamics. The relatively new 2.2 liter proved to be very good, but it was installed only with a manual transmission. Adherents of the “automatic” are better off choosing a motor from two liters or more, but the most powerful one - a three-liter V6 implies both expensive equipment and substantial gasoline costs - in the city it drinks 16 liters per hundred. "Sixes" after 1999 are a little more economical and noticeably more powerful, but there are relatively few of them in Russia.

ADVANTAGES OF THE CAR:

One of the highlights of the Peugeot 406 is the thruster rear suspension. For the first two years, the lower wishbones ended in ball joints, which mechanics nicknamed "acorns." After a year or two, the "acorns" began to knock - a backlash appeared in the hinges. Since 1997, they have been replaced by more durable silent blocks. As a rule, after 50–80 thousand km, you have to deal with the “adjusting” (responsible for convergence) traction and anti-roll bar struts.
The stabilizer struts of the front suspension have also undergone changes: since 1997, instead of the short-lived L-shaped ones, in which the “straight” hinge worked for separation, Z-shaped ones began to be installed. There are enough of them in Russia for 50-60 thousand km. Ball joints here are unified with heavier models 605 and 607 and run over 100 thousand km.
Peugeot produces its own shock absorbers - reliable, durable and also not too expensive for the original. Before restyling, they were oil-filled, after - with gas support. Both those and others will last more than 100 thousand km. But the support bearing of the rack rusts and wears out from moisture and dirt that gets into it. Knock, play and noticeable rolling of the balls appear after four to five years of operation.
Before restyling, the Peugeot 406 rear axle with 1.6 and 1.8 liter engines had drum brakes, which were enough for 150 thousand km. Disk, of course, are more sensitive to dirt and salt, but with intact anthers, the guides rarely turn sour.
For the first four years, the cars left the assembly line with a French power steering with a separate hydraulic cylinder, then they were replaced by a ZF product. The “Frenchman” sometimes suffered from a leak from the distributor (spool) and a knock in engagement, but it was maintainable and omnivorous: it even digested “roadside” ATF. In case of problems, the ZF amplifier is changed as an assembly, but usually neither one nor the other unit causes trouble.
We have already described the main operations for the maintenance and repair of the suspension and brakes (ZR, 2002, No. 12, p. 184). Do not spare only money for a branded wheel alignment: after all, all four wheels are adjusted here using special technology.

ALSO about the FILM "Taxi" that gave the PEUGEOT 406 popularity all over the world

The French film "Taxi" was really a breakthrough. This film grossed $200 million worldwide, which is a rarity for films in this country. The film spawned a bunch of sequels and remakes. And of course, the heroes of the film "Taxi" were remembered by everyone.

First of all, this is the Peugeot 406 taxi itself. The car became insanely popular after its appearance in the cinema. Presentable white color, French elegance, and also the ability to change.

The Peugeot from the movie "Taxi" was transformed into a sports car and increased its speed to faster than ordinary cars and helped the police punish criminals. Perfect transport, what can you say.

It is noteworthy that in the first film one car was filmed, and in the sequels a slightly different model. The fact is that the Peugeot 406 model was released in 1995, and in 2000 it was restyled. The film is in this gap and wedged.

TAXI 2: TRAILER

TAXI 3: TRAILER

GRODNO, June 9 -Sputnik, Valeria Solovieva. For almost a week now, an exact copy of the most famous taxi in the world, the white Peugeot 406 from the Luc Besson film, has been driving along the streets of Volkovysk. An ordinary taxi driver did the tuning, now he is going to carry his passengers on it.

Inspired by YouTube video

The car is almost an exact copy of the Marseille taxi. Everything is like in the movie. Front bumper, roof air intakes, spoiler, even a Taxis de Marseille decal.

The owner of the car is Igor Syrovatko, a resident of Volkovysk, who is a private driver.

The idea to make the same car was prompted by one video, which showed that Luc Besson's taxi was seen at the Minsk ring road.

“In fact, the resemblance turned out to be small. Yes, it was a white Peugeot 406, but the shapes and elements of the body kit turned out to be completely different from the original. But if you look from afar, it seemed like it was a car from the movie Taxi,” said the creator of the replica of the famous car.

On that day, the guy saw how people admire this model in this body kit. Therefore, I decided that I would make the most accurate copy.

Spent $3200

The idea appeared at the end of October last year. The very next day, he began to search for a car of the desired model on the Internet. I was interested in the Peugeot 406, it was with a gasoline engine, it was white, so as not to repaint the entire car.

“I took the car from a young guy from Slonim. She was in a slightly tired state. I had to touch up and fake some elements of the body,” Syrovatko added.

“I spent 2.5 thousand dollars on the car, about 650 dollars were spent on tuning materials. All the work was done together with my brother in the evenings in an ordinary garage,” the agency’s interlocutor said.

The guy admitted that he was ready to buy a ready-made bumper for a thousand dollars, but a body kit of this form was not found in Belarus. And it would be too expensive to make a custom order. So we decided to do everything ourselves. This took about four months.

No one was talking about their project. Only close friends knew. We came to the garage and saw the masterpieces that the guys made. Everything remained secret until the first departure.

Surprised city

“I went to the city center, where there are a lot of people. To be honest, people were pleasantly surprised, they came up to take pictures, took business cards, thanked me for giving such a car to our city,” said the owner of an unusual taxi.

The long-term production of all the elements tired the guy a little. He decided to leave, despite minor imperfections. “It was necessary to get positive emotions in order to recharge, gain strength and complete this project. Working in a taxi takes almost all the time. Tuning was done at night,” Syrovatko added.

Marseille taxi will carry passengers

The guy says that he is not going to sell a unique car. Moreover, the car will not gather dust in the garage to occasionally be used as a show car.

For pleasure trips or when going to an exhibition, he will remove all the details that were not in the picture. In the near future, Syrovatko plans to make a leather interior in his Peugeot, like in the movie. And when he goes to the auto show, replace the regular number with the same one that was in the French original.

The cult film "Taxi" from the eminent film director Luc Besson has become the most successful film in the history of French cinema, thanks to a masterfully twisted plot, a touch of French humor and, of course, the bright Peugeot406, which plays one of the main roles. If not to say that the most important. Someone will argue that the face of the picture is a killer team of a dashing taxi driver and a slow-moving policeman, but everyone is well aware that at the mention of a taxi movie, a white Peugeot in a non-standard aerodynamic body kit with a bunch of “gadgets” that stock cars are deprived of. Whether these gadgets were real or inventions of the screenwriter and director, let's try to figure it out in this review.

Of course, much of what was shown on the big screen with reality cannot have anything in common, at least not in such conditions and not with such a car, but as they say "every frog praises its swamp", so the French decided to give an additional incentive to one of its automakers. However, some things are quite suitable for installation and are successfully used by garage kulibins and even professional tuning shops. For example, caterpillars for driving in the snow (this will be a separate review). Naturally, they are installed initially, and not as in the film they are put forward in exchange for standard wheels, but the gadget has a place to be in real life. Or, for example, nitro acceleration with flames from the exhaust pipe - in reality, you can also equip your car, you just need to know that nitrous oxide and flames from the pipe are two different equipment and have nothing to do with each other. But about everything slowly and should start with the car itself and the version that is presented to the general public.

In the first film of the Taxi franchise, a pre-styling version of the Peugeot 406 of the 1995 model is presented with a 3-liter V6 with a capacity of 190 hp. In general, there were several variations with this body in the manufacturer's lineup, and the 3-liter "six" is the flagship, and it was decided to use it. According to film critics and avid fans of action films with cars, the car was equipped with either a V8 or V10. Where they got this from I have no idea, especially if you ask the stuntmen working on the sets, they will answer that most car stunts are done at a speed of 40 km / h. And the chase scenes are nothing but the good work of the operator and computer graphics engineers. Therefore, the version with a large-capacity internal combustion engine is no longer available. The standard car in the maximum configuration was able to accelerate to 100 km / h in 8.1 seconds, which cannot be said about the "cine" version, which, moreover, gained up to 308 km / h on cold tires. The aero kit, alloy wheels, low profile tyres, exhaust and other small things that defined Daniel's workhorse look were installed separately and they didn't slide in and out with the push of buttons on the optional controller board, but it's all possible to install on a stock car and effect will be reached. As for alloy wheels, you can buy such ones, this is not uncommon (TSW Imola r17). Exhaust - a regular muffler, body kit - custom, rubber - any low profile of a suitable size. You can make the legendary steering wheel, which the movie hero instantly changes before the start, just buy a quick-release clutch or grind it yourself and voila (an excellent anti-theft).

As for the air intakes on the roof, they do not stand up to any criticism at all, especially when they appear out of nowhere. The metal steps that extend when the wheel track is increased are also a special effect, which is not possible in reality. And the rest of the car is quite comfortable, reliable and inexpensive, relative to competitors.

If not for the film, then the demand for it (still) would not be so high. However, if we do not take into account that the Peugeot 406 is capable of overtaking 5-liter Mercedes with an AMG package and charged Evo Lancers, then the layman receives the following “goodies” by buying a factory-made car. The maximum configuration includes ABS, climate control, cruise control, electric and heated mirrors, full power accessories, a leather interior in three colors, a sunroof, a steering rear suspension and many other interesting things that are not found in fresh "credit cars" of similar cost. In addition, it is worth considering that the design of the car was developed in the Italian design studio Pininfarina, and not every affordable car can boast of this.

In 1999, a restyled version was released, which was immediately approved for filming in the second and third parts. On the factory model, the appearance was refreshed by changing the bumpers, head light, fog lights, radiator grille, and also finalized the suspension. In the cinematic version, wings were added for a long jump, a new instrument panel, tracks for driving in the snow. Until 2003, transitional models were produced, which were equipped with various variations of restyled and pre-styling engines, both gasoline and diesel, as well as with various wiring options, later replaced by a multi-complex one. In 2003, the 406 model was replaced by a completely redesigned version of the car, which received the 407 index. In terms of design, the car is completely different, but the general impression is that it is also a “Marseille taxi”, only in a new look. It was she who already appeared in the fourth part of the movie series about a taxi, because the old version of the car could no longer correspond to the spirit of the times, but that's another story.

The film, its heroes and the car were very fond of the audience and a whole cult of fans of the legendary car appeared. Replicas of the famous taxi car can be found all over the world, including in Russia, but the original model is in the Peugeot Adventure Museum, which is located in the small town of Sochaux, near the Swiss border.

The fate of this car has developed successfully for us. Firstly, the car was truly beautiful and had a refined handling that has vanished in modern models. There are still legends about the wizards who tuned the chassis of the Peugeot in the 1980s and 1990s. That is why, in addition to officially sold cars, our market still offers many copies imported at one time from Europe. Secondly, the ground clearance corresponds to the "Zhiguli" standard: 170 mm. Thirdly, cars were produced with a wide range of engines, including indestructible diesel ones.

FINEXPERTIZA

Today, the price range for this model ranges from 120 thousand rubles for a sedan of the first years of production (1995–1998) to 450 thousand for the final series, the 2004 model. By the way, most of them are on the market thanks to the efforts of official dealers that have become more active by that time. These are the prices for a sedan, but there was also an insanely beautiful coupe from Pininfarina, and a practical station wagon that did not lose its elegance. It is worth asking the price of a well-preserved two-door, having at least 300 thousand. A fully functional sedan can be bargained for in the region of 280-330 thousand. Station wagons are no more expensive than sedans, but they are very rare guests on the market, as are the original body parts for them. The situation is similar with spare parts for the coupe. But all options are related by galvanized bodywork. If you meet a specimen with pronounced corrosion, then you should know that you are the victim of an accident and careless repairs. This is not worth taking.

ENGINE ROOM

The most popular engines are gasoline, most with a volume of 1.8 liters (a 1.6-liter engine with 88 forces is also found, but it is frankly weak). They give out both 90 and 116 hp. The difference is due to the number of valves per cylinder: eight or sixteen. If you want more agility, look at the 2-liter turbocharged engine with 147 horsepower. If you want to ride with the breeze always - look for a 210-horsepower V-shaped "six" with a volume of 2.9 liters. Remember that gasoline units tend to eat up oil, regardless of the number of years lived and kilometers traveled. Waste consumption up to 500 g per 1000 kilometers was considered normal even for new cars. But most engines digest our A92. Until 1999, almost omnivorous atmospheric 1.9-liter diesel engines with a capacity of 90 “horses” were also installed on the Peugeot 406. After restyling, supercharging came to the rescue, increasing power to 132 forces.

Two words about boxes. The mechanics are almost entirely cable-driven, its work does not cause any particular complaints even after a year. Automatic machines have their own fad: they are very demanding on oil. Servicemen remember this, as well as the brand of oil: ATF LT 71141. The very common Dexron can destroy the unit. Over time, the machines begin to twitch a little when shifting gears, this is the forerunner of the inevitable repair.

QUEEN'S PENDANTS

As far as the storyline of The Three Musketeers was enriched by all the fuss because of the famous women's jewelry, the story about the Peugeot 406 suspension should diversify our dry review. If the front struts did not leak, and the hinges of the rear multi-link were followed, driving such a car can briefly drive you crazy with happiness! After restyling in 1999, the rear suspension was modernized, making it hard in German - to please the then fashion for super-handling. In the front, the design of the steering knuckles and struts has changed. After such an upgrade, the aristocratic-royal drive was gone, but the owners of the 406s became much less likely to see a locksmith to replace the hinges of the rear levers. By the way, the officially imported "wads" had a "Russian package" - an adaptation for our roads.

This concludes our tour of the model. In order to saturate it with life, we took a closer look at a car manufactured in 2003 with a mileage of 257 thousand kilometers - with a capacity of 210 forces, with a machine gun and a leather interior, for 310 thousand rubles.

"FRENCH FROM BORDEAUX"

The device of pleasant green color was released outside the gates of the Russian dealership nine years ago and has changed since then only two owners. Metropolitan life managed to beat the Peugeot, in some places strongly: the thickness of the paint in the region of the rear right door reached 2380 microns (against the norm of 140–180 microns). The rear right wing also got it, where the device measured a layer of 528 microns. Of the obvious marks of time - clouded plastic headlights, but this is a small problem: a non-original new part costs 3000-3500 rubles. The rear bumper was adorned with the eyes of an emergency parking sensors - an extremely useful thing, because it is impossible to feel the dimensions of the car when moving backward from the first time. More: windshield - with a crack on the driver's side. It will not be difficult to update it, since there are many non-original glasses at a price of 4600 rubles. But the apparatus rested on the ground with regular cast wheels. Tires, however, are frankly summer, well, after spring, just summer will come. No other visible flaws were found, and it is not difficult to restore the former brightness of the color with a polish.

The salon has been remarkably well preserved. The skin is not cracked even on the driver's seat. It seemed that she was very fat, that's why she was doing well. But at the location of the keys of the electric drives (the passenger one also has them!) We found a clue. It turns out that a microscopically thin layer of skin is glued to a powerful tissue base.

Having found a diagnostic connector in the cabin, they connected the scanner: positive feedback came from almost all corners of the car, including the anti-lock braking system and airbags. There were also disadvantages: the device recognized the operation of two neutralizers as incorrect. Apparently, they gradually "end". As for the interior, I really liked the oil pressure gauge on the dashboard.

If we decide to buy such a car, the cost of bringing it into a divine form would be, according to the most optimistic estimates, 16,000 rubles. True, this is without taking into account possible pitfalls (say, the edge of the hood is rusting) and winter tires.

A trial test drive with inappropriate, that is, out of season shoes, showed that such a ride is simply deadly. It was noted that when switching the selector from the “drive” to “reverse” position, the box jerks a little. By the way, the declared mileage of 257,000 km can be trusted: we did not find any signs that the car had traveled more.

It was not possible to find out what condition the suspension was in: the overpass was covered with snow, and there was no lift on the site. The engine ran smoothly, the stove warmed up, the radio (non-standard) played, the heated front seats indulged you know what with warmth.

Seeing our thoughts, the seller promised to move up a little in price, mentioning that the machine was after a major overhaul. And yet the motor finally dissuaded us from the temptation: the tax for 210 forces will come rather big. And yes, the mileage is great. Overall, though, I liked the car. If we find one, but with mechanics and 110-horsepower, we would consider it quite a suitable option for those who are not used to throwing money away when buying a car for every day. They say such instances occur.

OUR REFERENCE

Peugeot 406, a D-class car according to the European classification, was produced from 1995 to 2004. Following the sedan in 1996, a station wagon was introduced. Coupe appeared a year later. The car was equipped with both gasoline engines with a volume of 1.6 to 2.9 liters, and diesel engines: 1.9 and 2.2 liters. Boxes - mechanics or automatic.
