Citroen Berlingo Citroen Berlingo. Citroen Berlingo Citroen Berlingo 1

Finding a monocab that would perfectly cope with the tasks of transporting a group of people and goods is not an easy task. Basically, many manufacturers produce either family vans or commercial vans, but the middle ground between them is rare. But Citroen has become just that very rare brand that has launched a car on the market that perfectly combines high utility and comfort. His name is Berlingo. How has this single-volume tank changed over time and what can it offer its consumer? More on this below.

I generation (1996 - 2002)

Citroen Berlingo was the first car for the French brand that combines practicality and comfort. The monocab belongs to the M segment and has a twin brother in the form of Peugeot Partner.

On the market, the model was available in a passenger or cargo version (a van with a carrying capacity of 800 kilograms). It is noteworthy that the first generation Citroen Berlingo could boast of modest external dimensions. It had a length of only 4 meters 108 millimeters, which made it possible to operate it without much difficulty in urban conditions.

Depending on the configuration, the equipment of the French monocab included:

  • On-board computer.
  • Automatic activation of the rear wiper when reverse gear is engaged.
  • Heated rearview mirrors.
  • Washer, headlight corrector.
  • Hydraulic power steering.
  • Steering column height adjustment.
  • Electrically heated front seats.
  • Air conditioner.
  • Airbag for the driver.
  • Immobilizer.

Specifications

The power range consists of gasoline and diesel power units. All of them are equipped with a five-speed manual transmission.

Citroen Berlingo is based on a front-wheel drive platform. The front suspension is made according to the MacPherson type, while the rear is a semi-independent design on torsion elements.

I generation. Restyling (2002 - 2012)

The updated Citroen Berlingo outwardly differs from its pre-reform version in a different configuration of head optics, different fenders and a radiator grille. All this allowed to make the car more attractive in terms of design. Inside, the instrument panel has changed, a new steering wheel and a manual transmission knob have been installed.

As for technical reforms, the 1.8-liter installation has disappeared from the gasoline range of engines. At the same time, replenishment arrived in the diesel family - a 1.6-liter engine with a power of 75 and 90 forces. In addition, instead of a semi-independent beam, a full-fledged “multi-link” appeared, which made it possible to increase comfort and optimize the behavior of a single-volume vehicle on the road.

Price policy

In the secondary market, the price of Citroen Berlingo starts at 100 thousand rubles. The upper cost bar is fixed at 500 thousand rubles.

Owner Review

Citroen Berlingo is widely used in the market. Therefore, this car has a fairly large army of fans. The latter in every possible way share their operating experience and impressions about the model, which can be useful at the time of its acquisition.

The car was bought with a mileage of 100,000 kilometers. Options ̶ with a 1.6-liter gasoline engine. Currently, there are 254 thousand kilometers on the odometer, which allows us to draw objective conclusions about the operation.

You need to start with reliability. For all the time I did the following restoration work:

  • Replaced all shock absorber struts, as well as the front stabilizer links and springs.
  • Repaired the interior heater.
  • Replaced pump and engine cooler.

Now a few words about personal feelings ...

Advantages:

  • Roomy interior.
  • Good engine thrust.
  • Soft suspension.

Flaws:

  • Loud noise in the cabin.
  • Weak illumination of the head optics.
  • Roll control.

Despite the solid mileage, the car continues to please with its reliability and relative comfort. In the near future, I will not look for an alternative to him ...

Test Drive

Appearance

Citroen Berlingo has a neutral appearance. It evokes absolutely no emotion. The front part of the body is framed quite concisely. Head lighting optics blends well with the grille, as well as with a beveled front bumper with integrated fog lights.

The side doors of the French monocab are made sliding, which is very convenient when loading people or luggage in a tight parking lot. The luggage compartment doors are hinged and open almost 180 degrees.

Interior decoration

The quality of the finishing materials is not expected to be high - the plastic is hard and rattles when driving over bumps. However, it is difficult to find fault with the assembly - the gaps between the panels are small and even.

The instrument panel is read well due to the gray background and is quite nice. As for the center console, you can see the trip computer display and the climate control unit on it. But, the standard audio system is not provided ...

Driving properties

The 2.0-liter diesel engine accelerates the Citroen Berlingo quite briskly at medium speeds. However, at low levels, he lacks momentum, so starting off is not very convenient. The gear ratios of the box are chosen correctly, however, the "mechanics" themselves do not differ in the clarity of switching.

A steering wheel with a long steering rack makes it work actively during maneuvers in the city. The bagel is quite informative, but its sensitively extremely low. In addition, turns need to be taken more carefully due to the strong diagonal buildup. But the suspension very gently fulfills the bumps, providing a high smoothness.

II generation (2008 - 2012)

The new Citroen Berlingo retained the ideological concept of its predecessor, while becoming more attractive from a consumer point of view. He received a memorable design, comfortable interior, as well as a new platform.

The equipment list of the model includes:

  • Airbags for the driver, front passenger.
  • Steering column adjustment in two planes.
  • Active power steering.
  • On-board computer.
  • Air conditioner.
  • Fog lights.
  • Front power windows.
  • Power and heated side-view mirrors.
  • Pants audio system with the ability to read CDs.

For an additional fee you can order:

  • Climate control.
  • Panoramic roof.
  • System of exchange rate stability (ESP).
  • Rain sensor.
  • Light sensor.
  • Side airbags.
  • Cruise control.
  • Assistance system during parking.
  • Leather wrapped steering wheel.
  • Rear power windows.
  • Audio system with AUX-connector and Bluetooth.
  • Heated front seats.

For lovers of outdoor activities, Citroen has prepared a Berlingo with the prefix Multispace. Such a car differs from the usual modification by pseudo-metal bumper pads, a side body kit made of black plastic and other bumpers. In order to drive the Berlingo Multispace on bad roads, the ground clearance has been increased and more efficient springs have been installed, as well as a self-locking differential.

Specifications

The range of Citroen Berlingo II engines, as before, consists of gasoline and diesel units of the HDi family. They are mated to a five-speed manual gearbox.

Citroen Berlingo is based on the PSA platform under the PF2 index. The front suspension is McPherson, the rear is a semi-independent beam.

II generation. Restyling (2012 - 2015)

The updated Citroen Berlingo has slightly changed in appearance. Namely, he received LED running lights, new alloy wheels, and other bumpers. Inside, the instrument panel has been redesigned, the quality of finishing materials has been improved.

The power of the 1.6-liter turbodiesel power plant has increased to 115 forces. In addition, the power steering has been recalibrated to improve handling.

II generation. Restyling 2 (2015 - present)

The next upgrade changed the configuration of the head lights and bumpers. The interior became more functional, and also acquired a modified multimedia unit with three-dimensional navigation maps, the ability to read various video and audio files.

In terms of technology, it is worth noting the final transition of the 2017 Citroen Berlingo to the completely new EMP2 platform. The power range remained the same, while the diesel modification, as an alternative to the "mechanics", received a robotic transmission with six gears.

Market price

The minimum price of a used Citroen Berlingo II is 280 thousand rubles. The new one-volume vehicle is estimated at 1 million 239 thousand rubles.

Owner Review

The Internet contains a lot of information on the operation of the Citroen Berlingo II generation. Among it are reviews about the car, which may be useful to a potential buyer of the model.

Citroen was acquired for purely utilitarian tasks ̶ to transport a large family. At the time of purchase, the mileage was just over 20 thousand kilometers, while I added another 25 thousand kilometers to this number.

For the entire period of operation, Berlingo did not fail, and even in relatively severe frosts (-25 degrees) it started up regularly. At my disposal was a variant with a 1.6-liter diesel engine (90 forces). As for the dynamics, this motor suits me completely, because in the city its traction is enough for the eyes. Diesel fuel consumption is also quite democratic - about 10.5 liters in a combined cycle.

The suspension is soft, which the family really likes, especially when traveling long distances. But I didn’t like the handling - the car is too rolly. Also, I didn’t like the way the standard audio system reproduces sound ̶ it lacks detail.

Test Drive

Exterior

Citroen Berlingo II looks attractive (adjusted for the fact that it is still a utilitarian monocab). It is worth noting a laconic front bumper with integrated LED running lights and fog lights, a chrome-plated double chevron of the brand, as well as large head optics.

A large glazing area provides good visibility to the sides, and the presence of roof rails makes it possible to transport long items and oversized luggage.

Interior

Salon assembled qualitatively and quite ergonomic. However, the abundance of hard plastic does not allow you to forget about the budget segment, in which Citroen Berlingo is represented.

The instrument panel with amber illumination is perfectly readable under any conditions and informative. As for the central console, it is worth noting its some monumentality in terms of architecture and the presence of a color display of the navigation system. The head unit has an AUX-connector and Bluetooth support.

The driver's seat is set high. Its adjustment ranges are extensive, so a person of any build can get behind the wheel. The back row is organized in the form of three separate seats. They can accommodate three large passengers up to 190 centimeters tall. If we talk about the luggage compartment, then its volume is 675 liters, which, again, is not small.

Driving properties

Citroen Berlingo with a 1.6-liter turbodiesel engine is the best option that combines acceptable dynamics and economy. The engine confidently pulls almost from idle, while at the middle it pleases with a pronounced pickup. The mechanical transmission has a close gear ratio ̶ this helps with intense acceleration and allows you to keep the engine in good shape, however, the gearbox lever upset the amplitude moves and the low clarity of gear shifts.

You can't expect much from handling - the effort on the steering wheel is insignificant, while its sensitivity is not high. In addition, when cornering, you can state high rolls, so it’s better not to drive actively on this car.

But the suspension forgives a lot. Its high energy intensity makes it possible to drive even large bumps at high speed, while not feeling strong shocks and vibrations.

What is the conclusion? Citroen Berlingo is ideal for utilitarian and family tasks. It is roomy, comfortable and affordable. No special shortcomings (relative to competitors) have been recorded, which makes it an advantageous offer for a wide audience of consumers.

Photos of all generations of Citroen Berlingo:

Good day everyone! I haven't been here for a long time, for various reasons, but I decided to finish the story anyway;)

By the summer of 2015, the mileage approached 200,000, nothing special had happened since the last recall - only painted the trunk - it rusted decently. There were no special problems with the body, it was chipped, it began to peel off the paint from the thresholds with sandblasting - painted it with anti-gravity. The glass did not crack, although a couple of new chips appeared.

From the unpleasant - the lock of the rear right door stopped blocking, the heater fan almost died, some of the backlight bulbs for the buttons and handles on the dashboard burned out. On the body and interior, these are all faults.

There is much more work on the engine - repair or replacement of the generator, replacement of the belt and rollers, replacement of the cooling fan - the vibration is large, the bearing has apparently died, the clutch has been replaced, the gearbox drive has been replaced - the output is already critical, the replacement of the oil seals on the gearbox, the replacement of the tips of the spark plugs and ignition coils, recharging air conditioner. The motor itself is kept invigorating - it eats very little oil - 150 - 200 ml from filling to filling.

For brakes - replacing discs at the front and replacing or turning drums at the rear, replacing cables, flushing and replacing fluid. On the steering - the rail is still alive, you can change the tips. There are no special problems with the chassis - you can preemptively change the bearings on the rear beam, the springs on the struts in the front sank, but you can ride :), the shock absorbers are not leaking yet, you need to change the rubber covers on the rear, the stabilizer struts can be changed. The muffler burned out at the junction with the pipe (I already wrote about this - this is a weak point).

As can be seen from this list, nothing particularly critical was observed, normal natural wear and tear, even so, in July 2015, the machine turned 8 years old and the escape is quite decent. So I was getting ready to spend money and go further, but then several events took place that abruptly changed fate :) At first, the car suddenly began to stall under the gas - and it was completely unpredictable. - could drive normally for months or stall before each traffic light!

The guys at the service washed the throttle, checked the gaps - it stalls! By the method of scientific poke, they found out - rebooting the brain helps, but for an indefinite period - sooner or later it began to stall. They offered to either look for disassembly, or put a new brain. I thought :) And then the second event happened - our neighbors updated their fleet, took two Largus, a van and a five-seater. I walked around, looked, sat, drove around the parking lot behind the wheel and decided to give up without looking :) I washed the car, the day before the guys rebooted my brain and I went to trade-in, and what is most surprising is the price in general arranged.

The advantages and disadvantages of the Citroen Berlingo Multispace are identified based on feedback from real owners. More detailed pros and cons of Citroen Berlingo Multispace 1.6 120 hp gasoline and diesel with mechanics and front-wheel drive can be found in the stories below:

Owner reviews

To say that we are satisfied is to say nothing. The car is convenient for the driver to land: no problem 38 hours driving with a partner, only the hands are numb. A child or an adult, if desired, can sleep horizontally in the car, at full height between the rear seats, if the middle one is removed (option).

The car is roomy, and sliding doors for children and the elderly in city parking lots are more convenient than standard ones, since cars standing nearby will not accidentally hit. The rear window in the trunk was used for long cargo.

They didn’t carry pallets, they didn’t put extreme loads on the car. The machine is used in a sparingly-gentle mode. Parts prices are normal. Gasoline consumption of the 95th is 8.2-9.2 liters per 100 km, depending on the mode and driving style.

Review of Citroen Berlingo 1.6 (120 hp) manual transmission 2012

Video review

Advantages of the car:

Very good review.
+ Very good informative mirrors.
+ Comfortable fit (for 10 hours behind the wheel, the back does not numb).
+ Low consumption (combined cycle, without trampling your heels on the floor, but occasionally with a full trunk and bikes on the roof) - 7.2 liters of the 95th. When fully loaded (5 people + full trunk) - 8.1 liters.
+ Relatively high ground clearance.
+ Long travel suspension.
+ A large number of glove compartments in the car.
+ Sliding doors help out in tight parking.
+ All seats can be easily dismantled without tools, creating an incredible amount of luggage space.
+ Very pleasant steering with good enough feedback.
+ The car behaves well on the road with a track (does not scour and does not crawl).

Flaws:

- The front bumper with a long front overhang, you have to put up with it, as with the inevitable evil of the front drive, but its height ... the lower part of the bumper is filled with emptiness ... As a result, all the bumps are collected by the bumper.
- The French were freezing in 1812, they are freezing in 2015. More precisely, passengers, because the stove is ugly weak. At -30, rear passengers will have to freeze, even with the maximum heater power.
- Poor dynamics.
- I perceive blowing the rear seats as a mockery: it has no connection with the stove, but takes air over the driver's head and blows it onto the passengers - an absolutely unviable design.
- Very easily soiled light plastic (easy to smudge).
— Too soft suspension.
- Plastic roof (in the configuration with skylights). Don't get caught! I found out about this when I tried to put an antenna on a magnet.
- The windshield collects all the dirt and all the midges, but this is a tribute to the forms.

Viktor Andreevich, review of Citroen Berlingo 1.6 MT 2013

The car is universal, for all occasions. I use for myself. Convenient to manage. The EP6 engine from BMW is very nimble for a displacement of 1.6 and a power of 120 hp.

This is a spacious, comfortable, versatile car, which in the X-TR modification also has an off-road body kit, reinforced suspension and a 1 cm higher ground clearance. Not a single failure in two years.

The car requires additional sound insulation, it warms up for a long time, it is underestimated as a passenger car for the driver.

Andrey drives a Berlingo 1.6 on the mechanics of 2014

The car is well controlled even at high speed, at 130 km / h it goes like on rails, though if there is no strong side wind. The ergonomics are very good, already in the basic configuration the steering column is adjustable in height and reach.

The only negative is that in my configuration there is no armrest at the driver's seat, on expensive versions it is. But there is no central tunnel, you can go from the first to the second row without leaving the cabin. Unfortunately, the finish is dominated by cheap plastic.

The car turned out to be very convenient for traveling. The body is wide and high, there is enough space in the back for three passengers. If you travel together, then a tent or a hotel is not needed - there is enough space in the cabin to organize comfortable sleeping places.

With the second row seats folded down, the boot volume is 3,000 liters. As a truck, the car is also good, even with a full load, the suspension retains sufficient energy intensity, and the ground clearance is high.

I also like the fact that this car has a lot of compartments for small items, everything can be laid out in its place. The car is easy to drive and maneuverable, turning radius like a compact hatchback. Landing is high like a crossover, thanks to this and large mirrors visibility is very good.

The machine proved to be quite reliable in operation. From the moment of purchase, I drove 35,000 km, only the thermostat had to be replaced from breakdowns. Another drawback that came to light in the winter is that the engine warms up for a long time and the stove is not efficient enough. Perhaps I will put an additional heater.

Finally

Summing up, we can say with confidence that the price of Citroen Berlingo Multispace is not taken from the ceiling. It is formed under the influence of a huge set of functions and capabilities.
