Candles for Mitsubishi Lancer 10 1.6. Replacing spark plugs. Which parts to choose - original or not original

Replacing spark plugs on a Mitsubishi Lancer 10 is a standard procedure that is carried out every two years or when the mileage is 60 thousand km. (iridium candles - 90 thousand km).

But due to the fact that in most cases the quality of gasoline leaves much to be desired, it is recommended to change them more often - after accumulating a mileage of 30 thousand km. The plugs can be replaced at a service center or by yourself. It is not a complicated procedure, it only takes a few minutes.

But if you are not a specialist or you do not have the necessary tools, then it is easier to turn to professionals.

Which parts to choose - original or not original

Many Lancer 10 owners are wondering which candles to put on their car - the more expensive original ones or the cheaper ones that are not original. It may seem that native parts must necessarily be better, but this is not entirely true. In fact, in most cases, original spark plugs are manufactured by the same companies as non-original ones.

The well-known Japanese manufacturer NGK supplies spark plugs to many brands, including Mitsubishi. That is, there is no difference between a spare part offered by this company and any others with the same marking. The inflated price is associated with the group's pricing policy and warranty costs. In fact, non-original candles are the same original ones only without a logo on the package.

On the other hand, there are very cheap Chinese-made candles. It is better not to use such parts at all, since their quality is lame. The best option is candles made by serious companies such as NGK, BOSCH.

Where can I find spare parts

You can find spark plugs for the Lancer X at the warranty service center or service station. Experts will quickly tell you what kind of candles you need and help with installation. But if you decide to independently choose parts for your car, then you can search the Internet.

In order to quickly find the required spare part, you will need to find out its OEM number. The original market number of the product is a code that identifies each specific part. An OEM number is made up of a combination of letters and numbers. Each manufacturer has its own product numbering system.

There are many spare parts catalogs on the Internet. Going into one of them, you need to enter the OEM number in the search field and you will immediately get a list of all the options.

Thus, you can compare candles by cost and choose from the proposed manufacturers. Similarly, you can find the parts you need using the VIN code (body number) of the car. To do this, you need to search the catalog by this code. All parts from this car model will be knocked out.

If you do not know the OEM number of the spark plugs or the body number, then the search can be performed by the year of manufacture and modification of your car.

How to replace

In order to replace old candles with new ones, you will need the following tools:

  • candle wrench for 14 with an elastic band inside;
  • ratchet wrench with a head for 10;
  • flat head screwdriver.

All candles must be placed in order - one after the other. That is, we first twist the first completely and only then proceed to the second.

The first step is to remove the protective cover. For this, three fastening bolts are unscrewed. Then, using a screwdriver, the connector is removed and the bolt holding the ignition coil is unscrewed. Next, you need to pull out the ignition coil and insert the spark plug wrench until it clicks.

After that, you can start unscrewing the candle. Having released the connector, you need to screw in a new plug and put the ignition coil in place, and also tighten the mounting bolt and connect the connector. Thus, all candles are replaced. Tighten the spark plug carefully so as not to break the threads, but at the same time firmly so that there is no poor heat transfer.

  2. Torx E10 socket for 1.5 liter engine. For engines of 1.8 and 2.0, a conventional 10 hex socket is used.

3. Now you need to disconnect the plug of the low-voltage input of the ignition coil, then pull the coil up and put it aside.

4. Immediately under the coil there will be a spark plug, which must be unscrewed using a spark plug wrench with a magnetic or plastic retainer. If you are using a conventional extended socket, the spark plug can be pulled out using the fuel hose:

Service books from the official manufacturer say that replacing candles is best done every 90,000 kilometers with iridescent candles. In our country, this figure is less - 60,000 km, because the quality of gasoline in most of the region leaves much to be desired. If the candles are ordinary, then it is better every 30,000 kilometers.

What do you need to replace?

Key 16 or special spark plug key. It will be good if the outer diameter of the hook is not large - then the tool will easily crawl into the candle wells.
If you have a 1.5 liter motor, then you will also need a TORX E10 socket head, if 1.8 or 2, then just a 10 hexagon.
A set of new candles - 4 pieces.

Procedure:

1. Open the hood and remove the plastic engine cover. There is no need to unscrew anything - just pull the cover up.

2. If the engine is dirty, in dust or debris, it is best to thoroughly rinse and wipe everything. Now you can safely unscrew the bolts that secure the ignition coils. To do this, you just need an E10 socket wrench or a simple 10 head.

3. Now you will need to disconnect the wire plug from the ignition coil. Removing the coil is easy - pull it up and set it aside to avoid losing it or stepping on it.

4. Immediately under the coil we see what we are looking for. It is unscrewed with a special spark plug wrench or retainer. Using a simple socket head, the spark plug can be removed using the fuel hose (as pictured)

5. We put new candles. It is better to first twist it by hand to feel whether the candle has got into the thread or not. If you feel that it is going "tight", then it is better not to put in efforts, but to twist and try again. It is good if you have a special torque wrench: you will need to tighten with a torque of 25 Nm

6. Put everything in place in the reverse order.

Now which candles should you choose? Different plugs are suitable for different power units.
For a 1.5 liter engine, this is Mitsubishi MN176628 (original) or Bosch 0 242 235 769.
For engines of 1.8 or 2.0 liters - originals Mitsubishi MN163236, Mitsubishi MN163807 or NGK FR6EI,
Denso K20PSR-B8.

Remember that even if you buy an original product from Mitsubishi, the box still contains candles from Bosch or NGK, Denso. No problem: Mitsubishi just packs the candles and the production is done by partner companies.
