The Nokian Hakkapeliitta R3 non-studded winter tire is produced for a wide range of passenger cars. The Hakkapeliitta R3 model belongs to the family of Nordic winter tires that provide reliable grip in regions with difficult climatic conditions. The Nokian Hakkapeliitta R3 tire is characterized by a high level of safety, comfort and fuel efficiency.

The directional tread of the Hakkapeliitta R3 is based on the patented Arctic Sense Grip concept, which combines technologies aimed at providing reliable grip, precise handling and driving pleasure. The functional sipes used in the tire tread work effectively in various weather conditions on ice, snow and asphalt. The new rubber compound with Cryo Crystal 3 microparticles guarantees optimal longitudinal and lateral grip. The optimized structure of the shoulder tread blocks improves cross-country ability and handling and reduces noise levels.

An increased number of pump sipes are located in the central part of the tread. They remove residual water from the contact patch, providing stable and reliable grip on wet roads. The shoulder areas of the tire are equipped with self-locking 3D sipes, the sharp zigzag edges of which open and close during acceleration and braking, improving traction and shortening braking distances on slippery sections of winter roads.

Unique Cryo Cristal 3 microparticles in the rubber compound provide optimal longitudinal and lateral grip. The microparticles act like miniature spikes, creating sharp, hard traction edges. As the tire wears, crystals evenly distributed in the rubber compound gradually come out, which ensures reliable grip throughout the entire life of the tire.

Today, there is simply a huge choice of tires for car enthusiasts - you can spend many hours trying to figure out which tires are best for your car in certain weather conditions. This becomes a particularly serious problem when you find yourself in a fairly cold climate, so the standard approach to choosing tires is no longer relevant for you.

What should people living in the North do? This is why there are tires such as the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2, which are made specifically for such conditions. If your car always has to be in not the most pleasant and rather cold weather conditions, then you should definitely read this article. Here you will find out why the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 tires are the ideal choice for you. So, it's time to get acquainted with this magnificent tire, about which people leave extremely positive reviews.

Basic information

Before going into details about why you should buy the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2, you should get to know these tires in more detail. This tire is positioned as the most comfortable for those people who live closer to the north. Even the manufacturer’s motto sounds like “northern comfort.”

And these are not just words - in fact, these non-studded tires (which already gives them a serious advantage over studded tires, which are much more highly specialized) offer you absolute comfort on any trip, as well as the maximum driving safety that can be achieved in harsh northern conditions. This new tire model truly gives you unforgettable comfort, as you will feel almost nothing while driving, but at the same time you will get fuel savings.

And, of course, as mentioned above, the absence of studs significantly increases the safety characteristics of this rubber. Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 tires offer incredible safety when driving on icy or snowy roads, excellent handling on dry or wet surfaces, and reduced resistance, which is the key to fuel economy. Here are the main advantages of this rubber. They already make you think about buying this model, but you should still look at it in more detail to fully understand its magnificence.

The best winter tires in the world

We can safely say that the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 is the best winter tire in the world at the moment, since the manufacturer managed to create an incredibly energy-efficient tire model. This model was developed specifically for the unique i3 electric car from BMW, so you can immediately understand how good such a tire should be in theory. But in practice, everything is confirmed, and the performance even exceeds all expectations placed on it.

The main advantages of these tires are low driving resistance, first-class grip and an outstanding level of driving comfort. Tests have proven that these tires can reduce the driving resistance of electric cars by more than thirty percent, which in turn leads to incredibly high fuel economy, and in this case, the energy used by the electric car.

But it's not just about saving money. The fact is that such tires solve the problem that many electric cars still do not have a very long battery life between charges, and the reduction in resistance, leading to lower energy consumption, significantly increases the distance that the car can cover without recharging. This is precisely what attracts the attention of the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 tires.

The most energy efficient tires

The Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 is a model that was launched by a company that operates much further north than most tire manufacturers. That is why it specializes mainly in the production of rubber that would be suitable for the harsh Scandinavian conditions, where you always need to have winter or close to winter tires, and where electric cars are much more common than anywhere else on the planet. And in 2015, the manufacturer managed to achieve the incredible - a mark appeared on the tire label: “Energy efficiency class A.” This is the best indicator in the industry today.

Thus, this model is not just another tire, it is a full-fledged step forward, it is the tire of the future, which allows you to safely, economically and most efficiently drive your car on snow and ice, without fear of the harsh Scandinavian winter. In the case of Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 tires, owner reviews mostly remain positive, although not many of these reviews can be found on Russian-language websites due to the fact that, by and large, these tires are designed for use in electric cars.

Problems for electric car tire manufacturers

Manufacturers of tires designed for electric vehicles face certain problems that are not so easy to solve. The fact is that electric cars are very different from traditional cars - they are much lighter, they have completely different aerodynamics. And all this leads to the fact that the tires used on traditional cars become extremely ineffective on electric cars, so you need to develop your own product for them. And the ideal option at the moment is the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2, owner reviews confirm this over and over again. But how is this effect achieved? How does a manufacturer create such a work of art? It turns out that one of the most decisive roles, thanks to which the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 tires achieve such success, is played by the material from which this rubber is made.

Ecological miracle

The secret lies in the eSilica component, which is unique and gives truly impressive results. It is due to this component, which is added to the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 tires, that such performance and efficiency are achieved. But what is the essence of this component? It's actually quite complicated, so you should only understand the process at a basic level. In principle, you don't need to understand the process at all, you can simply use the fact that the manufacturers have created something similar for you, but for your own development and understanding of the market, you still need to understand in which direction progress is moving in this area.

So, the molecular chains of the new generation eSilica functional tread compound are combined with silicate particles, resulting in a very strong, but at the same time quite flexible combination. The resulting mixture has a number of incredible advantages that leave many other leading combinations far behind: excellent performance in various temperature conditions, due to which traction in winter conditions is significantly improved, which results in low resistance while driving; The tread pattern performs its functions at an excellent level, regardless of the condition of the road - it can be wet, slippery, snowy, dry, and so on, but the tires always show only the highest level, and even a change does not affect their performance adhesion levels and temperature changes. Accordingly, thanks to this unique combination, high-quality grip on any surface is achieved, and is also much slower than in most other cases.

It should also be noted that rapeseed oil, which is also used in the production of this rubber - it increases the tensile strength, and also due to it, even better grip on icy or snow-covered roads is achieved for Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 tires. Reviews about this product speak for themselves, so you should definitely, if not immediately purchase them, if you live closer to the north, then at least try them out in practice.

New concept

In the case of Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 tires, reviews also contain mention of a certain concept that was first used on this particular model. What is this concept and why is it so remarkable? You, most likely, have already been surprised that this tire, designed for winter conditions, has absolutely no studs. This may seem absurd to the car owner - how is traction on a slippery road ensured in this case?

This topic has already been touched upon a little earlier in the article, but now it’s time to talk about it in more detail. It's all about that very unique mixture, which takes these tires to a completely new quality level. The secret is that microscopic multi-faceted crystal-shaped particles that have the hardness of diamond are added to this mixture. These peculiar crystals act as microscopic spikes, providing adhesion to the surface due to their sharp and hard edges and corners. As a result, traction on slippery road surfaces occurs over the entire surface of the tire, and not just where there are studs. Even previous tire models from this manufacturer already had good grip on slippery roads, but this rubber has really reached a completely new level - during testing it was found that thanks to this technology, a car equipped with Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 winter tires can literally stop on ice instantly - its braking distance at a speed of about 80 kilometers per hour was several meters less than the record of previous models.

It is also worth mentioning that due to the fact that crystals are added to the entire mixture, excellent grip on slippery roads remains relevant even when the tires are already approaching the point of complete wear, unlike standard winter studded tires. So this concept is another step into the future, these crystals could change the way winter tires will look in the coming years.

Pumping grooves

The Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 winter tires are not limited to these innovations - they are ready to offer their users many more and a wide variety of innovations, most of which are focused on ensuring that this tire shows maximum performance in cold conditions. For example, special attention should be paid to the original pocket-shaped pump grooves that make up the tire tread pattern. They are specially made to provide excellent grip on the road surface. In the production of previous models, this technology was already used, but only once - it was then that the company patented this invention.

As for this rubber model, the same technology is used, but it is significantly improved by increasing the size of the pockets. How does it work? Pockets are called pump pockets for a reason - the fact is that they suck water from the road surface into the existing pocket, guaranteeing better traction. As you can easily understand, by increasing the size of the pockets, it was possible to absorb more water, thereby further improving the grip of the rubber on the road. The combination of sharp zigzag grooves with this advanced technology produces incredible results, and the straight main grooves are ideal for extreme winter weather with lots of snow and thick layers of ice. This is why it is recommended to purchase Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 tires - reviews about them often touch on the smallest points that not a single review describes.

However, user reviews will be considered separately, but for now you should familiarize yourself with another innovative technology that was used in the design of this model.

Slush protection

Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 tires also have additional technology designed to protect against problems that cars often experience in heavy rain, slush, or when driving on contaminated road surfaces. Often, dirt accumulates in the tread grooves, reducing the tire's performance. This model has special claw-shaped protrusions, which are aimed specifically at improving the functioning of tires in such weather conditions. They are located on the critical "shoulder" area of the tire to maximize the ability to self-clean the tread of any contaminants that could cause a decrease in rubber performance. Thus, thanks to this innovative technology, these tires provide very strong and reliable grip on the road even when real chaos reigns on it, and it no longer resembles, in fact, a road due to thick mud, which greatly impedes the movement of cars equipped with ordinary rubber, and not advanced tires of this model.

However, this is not all that is worth paying attention to. It is quite possible that you have already noticed if you have studied this issue that this tire model may also have a Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 version. What does that mean? What is different about this version?

SUV tires

Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 SUV tires are not too different from the original version, however, naturally, there are still differences, because this version of the tire is not intended for ordinary cars, but for SUVs that travel over much more rugged terrain. What are these differences?

The first thing to pay attention to is the fact that the tread pattern of these two variations is slightly different: the SUV version has a slightly more aggressive one, designed to combat large volumes of dirt and other substances that will try to clog the grooves of your tread. Also, manufacturers were able to further increase the tires’ grip on snow and ice, so you will now be able to conquer winter off-road conditions as easily as you can. And, of course, it is worth noting the increased strength of these tires - this is quite logical, because for off-road driving there is a reserve strength should be much higher than for driving on ordinary roads, where your tires are practically not in danger. In this case, manufacturers have used special aramid fibers to reinforce their SUV tires to ensure maximum durability for off-road adventures. This model is available in a variety of sizes - up to the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 SUV XL, which is very large. Up to model 295/40R21 111R. As can be seen from the markings, the width of these tires is 295 centimeters and the diameter is 21 inches, while they can withstand incredible loads and speeds of up to 170 kilometers per hour.

Naturally, this is not the only size - both for basic tires and for rubber intended for SUVs, sizes can vary, and there are several dozen markings for a wide variety of wheels - from 15 to 21 inches. Therefore, you will definitely have something specific to choose so that this choice completely satisfies you.

Well, that's all the information you need to know about the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 and Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 SUV tires. Reviews are the final part of this article, and from it you can find out what real people who have tried this tire think about this tire model. You will find both positive and negative points to understand what shortcomings these tires still have and how to deal with them.

Nokian Hakkapeliitta R- a new product in the segment of non-studded winter tires from Nokian. According to the test results, the tire was recognized as the best among its peers, because was created specifically for demanding consumers who use the car in various weather conditions.

The rubber compound of the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R tire has undergone changes for the better - a composite of silica and rapeseed oil is used, which improves grip on wet roads and ice, as well as the tire's tensile strength. The dense network of cut lamellas is designed in such a way that it “erases” the water film from the road surface, providing effective grip on wet roads. In this regard, drainage grooves are called - "pump lamellas" and were patented by Nokian as excellent assistants to masterful clutch in cold and rain.

  • New tread pattern,
  • new rubber compound composition,
  • multi-layer tread structure,
  • central rib,
  • shoulder blocks of different lengths

All this allows the friction tire to maintain stability without being affected by changes in winter weather and driving conditions.

Nokian Hakkapeliitta R economical winter tires! This is indicated by the inscription on the sidewall “ultra low rolling resistance”, which means “exceptionally low rolling resistance”. When rolling on the road surface, the tire spends a minimal amount of energy due to the new composition of the rubber compound, a competent sipe system and a new tread design.

I just bought everything ok, I don’t know the wear resistance yet, but everything is fine including the service

Very satisfied!

I bought it two weeks ago. I noticed a slight vibration from the tires; balancing doesn’t help; they say the wheels and tires are fine. But there was no vibration on the summer one. I used to ride on a Velcro bridge, which prompted me to take this Nokia. The extended warranty does not cover vibration. One wheel was replaced and there was a cut on the side. It may be good in the snow, but it’s a problem on asphalt. I won’t take it anymore. People, don’t spend a lot of money, buy something for your family and friends.

Yuri

These tires are for all-wheel drive. The car floats with rear wheel drive.

Vadim

I think that these are the best friction tires at this time. Since 2011, I installed R-ku on the Skoda Yeti, winter operation Krasnaya Polyana-Tuapse-Krasnodar-Ufa. Handles the car perfectly on winter roads, both in the slush of snow on the Polyany and Tuapse passes up to 90 km/h, and in the icy conditions of Krasnodar at speed 90-120 km/hour. For 15 years I have only bought Hakkapelita for the winter. Now installed on the Mercedes B 180 Hakkapelita R2 - silent and reliable both in the city and on the highway. I recommend!

GREAT RUBBER. I WASHED 65,000 THOUSAND, BUYED NEW, SAME.

Nokian Hakkapeliitta BR2 for me is the best Velcro! The least noisy..... rides very softly.... it floats quite a bit when you enter a turn from 60 km... I climbed uphill on an icy surface with them..... well, I was able to get out in about 20 minutes... In general, the rubber is not capricious..... it rides well on any surface..... and overcomes the mess on the road very well...... If you drive in the city, then these are the best tires!

Alexei

Excellent tire, zero noise, holds the road perfectly, my next tire is only Nokian.

Ivan

I fell into a hole at a speed of 15 km, the side part ruptured, I was simply in shock, I always rode on a bridge, there were no such problems.

Sergey

On Nokian tires since 2009. I bought the R-ku twice, and when they stopped producing it I bought the R2. As for winter tires, there are no complaints about it. In deep snow it rows at 5+, on ice it brakes well, but wear resistance.... In one single season (mileage 13 thousand km) it was worn out on the drive axle to the point that there is no longer a snowflake, i.e. Tread height is less than 4mm. By the way, the 8 is still visible on the rear axle. I don’t seem to drive aggressively, but really fast. Well, on the R-ke the driving style was the same, but nevertheless, it ran for me 65 thousand km. And here at least there’s enough for the second season....

Alexander Vasilievich

For some reason, the moderators decided not to publish my first review of the tire. Anyway. I'll write another one. The tires lasted only one winter season (that’s 13 thousand km) and were worn out on the drive axle until the snowflakes were no longer visible, i.e. 4mm of tread left. The 8 is still visible on the rear axle. The driving style is not aggressive. So if wear resistance is not important, buy it. In all other respects, the tires are good.
