Gearbox Daewoo Nexia 8 valves. We change the oil in the gearbox of a Daewoo Nexia with our own hands. Procedure for changing transmission lube

Every motorist can change the oil in the Daewoo Nexia gearbox on their own, with some effort and a little time. For the job you will need a platform or pit, as well as suitable gear oil and a small set of common tools.

When to change?

The automaker regulates that changing the oil in the Daewoo Nexia gearbox is not required at all, since the fluid is filled for the entire life of the car. Experienced craftsmen and motorists still advise replacing the fluid after 100 thousand kilometers. If difficulties arise when shifting gears in cold weather, the fluid can be changed earlier, regardless of the car manufacturer's recommendations.

Helpful information

There is no exact information about what is poured into the transmission at the Daewoo Nexia plant, but it is usually mineral oil, which thickens greatly in frosty weather. We recommend using semi-synthetic or synthetic instead.

Periodically (approximately every 15 thousand kilometers) the level needs to be monitored. The design of the Daewoo Nexia gearbox does not provide for replacement, but in order to avoid costly repair work, it is better to perform this maintenance regularly. We’ll figure out how to fill oil into the Daewoo Nexia box and how much fluid is needed below.

Which oil should I buy?

It is better to pay attention to the oil in the Nexia gearbox with the characteristics SAE 80W GL-4. If you live in long frosts down to -30 degrees, it is better to fill the transmission with 75W90 GL-4 fluid.

Thus, changing the oil in the Daewoo Nexia gearbox involves the use of mineral lubricant 80W90 GL-4 and synthetic/semi-synthetic 75W80, 75W90, 80W85 GL-4. Note that in the hot summer months, 75W80 oil can cause the box to hum during operation.

The oil volume in the Daewoo Nexia gearbox is 1.8 liters

Tools for work

You now know how much oil is in the Daewoo Nexia gearbox, so let’s figure out what devices and tools are required for servicing the gearbox:

  • special syringe;
  • jack;
  • wrench 19;
  • socket heads for 13 and 17;
  • new oil;
  • pan gasket;
  • container for old liquid.

To select the right gasket for your box, first inspect the tray by reaching under the bottom. There are two options for pallets with 10 and 11 holes - use them as a guide when purchasing a gasket. To save money, you can cut it out of paronite or use heat-resistant sealant, but these are not the best options.

Let's start replacing

Changing the oil in a gearbox in a Nexia is not a difficult task, but it is important to strictly follow a certain sequence of actions. First you need to lift the car on a lift, jack or drive it into a pit. Get under the bottom and remove the crankcase protection.

Next, use a 10mm socket to tear off the bolts holding the box tray. Unscrew them at the front of the pan and place a container to drain the old oil. Drain the liquid and then completely remove the pan. We recommend changing the gasket, even if it appears intact from the outside.

Usually it is possible to drain about 1.5 liters of lubricant, and 20-300 ml remains inside. To drain completely, lift the left front wheel.

Using a 13 socket, unscrew the oil level control hole plug, which is located on the right side of the box near the inner CV joint. Thoroughly rinse the plug and the magnet, which is located in a special cavity.

As in many modern cars, the oil in the Daewoo Nexia gearbox is theoretically filled for its entire service life. At least that's what the manufacturer tells us.

This is due to both the inevitable aging of the lubricant and the specific operating conditions of vehicles on our roads. In a word, we change the oil after about 100 thousand mileage, and we try to use high-quality synthetic oils, since From the factory, the Nexia checkpoint is filled with mostly mineral water.

Tool for changing gearbox oil

To completely change the oil in the Nexia gearbox, you will need about two liters of synthetic oil SAE 80W GL-4, we choose the manufacturer at our discretion and according to our financial capabilities. In extreme cases, you can fill in both mineral water and semi-synthetic water, and the viscosity is selected depending on climatic conditions. First, let's prepare tools, consumables and accessories:

  1. If it is not possible to use a lift, a standard jack will come in handy.
  2. Refill syringe.
  3. A container with a volume of at least 2 liters with a wide neck (a plastic canister cut lengthwise, an ordinary basin).
  4. Transmission pan gasket. Depending on the year of manufacture and modification of the box, there may be 10 ( Nexia N100) or 11 holes ( N-150). This must be taken into account before purchasing a gasket.
  5. Set of sockets, set of keys, standard tools.
  6. Sealant for gaskets if possible.

Replacement algorithm

The oil is changed when the engine is warm so that the waste is drained more completely. We install the car on the pit/overpass and begin work in this order:

  1. The manufacturer did not provide any drain plugs, so the oil is drained when the pan is removed. Don't be lazy to remove the engine protection if it is installed.

    Unscrew the plastic protection.

  2. Use a socket wrench or a 10 mm socket wrench to unscrew the screws securing the pan. We work carefully because the oil is hot. We do not unscrew all the screws, but leave two oppositely located ones attached.

    We turn out all the bolts of the pallet except the last two.

  3. We install a container under the gearbox.
  4. Carefully unscrew the two remaining screws and carefully remove the pan. The oil began to drain into the container.

    Drain the used oil.

  5. As a rule, no more than 1.5 liters of oil can be drained the first time. The rest is still in the box and we need to remove it.
  6. Place the gearbox in neutral and jack up the left front wheel to remove any remaining oil from the fifth gear mechanism.

    Raise the front left wheel with a jack.

  7. We turn the raised wheel against the movement, draining the remains of the transmission. As a result, at least 1.7 liters should be drained with a total gearbox volume of 1.8 liters.
  8. Now let's get to the traffic jams. Using a 13mm head, unscrew the inspection hole plug. It is located on the right side of the vehicle on the gearbox housing.

    The control hole plug is unscrewed with the head at 13.

  9. We thoroughly wash the plug to remove any remaining oil, take out the magnetic catcher and wash it.

    We clean the magnet and plug from dirt and metal filings.

  10. Unscrew the breather from the top of the box. We wash it too. We do not tighten the breather; we will fill the oil through the top hole.
  11. We carefully clean the crankcase mating plane from the remnants of the old gasket and oil, and wash the pan.

    View of the box without a lid - everything has been thoroughly washed.

  12. Apply a small layer of sealant as desired, install the gasket and pan, tightening the fastening bolts.

    New gasket on the lower gearbox cover.

  13. Using a filling syringe or funnel, fill in about 1.6-1.7 liters of fresh oil until grease appears at the bottom of the inspection hole.
  14. We install the breather in place, put on the cap, and screw on the drain plug.

Conclusion

The gearbox oil has been replaced, all that remains is to check the gearbox for leaks and easy gear shifting. Good luck to everyone and smooth roads!

Daewoo Nexia is a car from a manufacturer from Korea. It is very popular both in the Russian Federation and in other countries of the former USSR. This is due to the low cost, good performance indicators, and long service life of the vehicle.

Changing the oil in the Daewoo Nexia gearbox can be confidently considered one of the mandatory procedures included in the maintenance.

History of Nexia

This Korean middle-class car was presented to the public in 1986. The development was carried out by German specialists (Opel company). The car was created on the basis of the Opel Kadett E, which was widespread at that time. "Nexia" began to be produced for residents of developing countries. Since 1995, cars have become available to citizens of the former Soviet Union. By the way, this car is known to Korean residents under the name “Daewoo Cielo”.

Ergonomics of Daewoo Nexia

The car stood out, first of all, for its low price. It cost no more than Russian front-wheel drive VAZs. The car was quite reliable, unpretentious in use, was ahead of Russian cars in terms of these characteristics and was not inferior to imported middle-class models. Replacing broken parts was easy due to their availability. All this explains the ubiquity of this machine.

However, Nexia gradually began to lose ground. The last car of this model was released four years ago. After this, the Korean manufacturer began producing the Daewoo Gentra.

Transmission "Daewoo"

The following transmissions were installed in Daewoo Nexia:

  • five-speed manual;
  • four-speed automatic.

The production of Nexia, equipped with a manual transmission, began in Uzbekistan. What kind of oil is used in this car? SAE 80W90, SAE 75W90 lubricant is used. Only hatchbacks that were produced in 1994-1997 are equipped with automation. Only Dextron 2 is filled into automatic transmissions.

It is worth noting that, in accordance with the recommendations of the Korean manufacturer, there is no need to change the Nexia gearbox oil. Its resource should be sufficient for the entire period of operation. This is approximately two hundred thousand kilometers. It is sometimes necessary to check its quantity and, if necessary, top up.

Changing the oil in the Nexia gearbox is intended only for regions where the temperature is very low (less than thirty degrees). This is due to the fact that in low temperature conditions mineral motor oil thickens. When making a car, mineral water is poured into it to save money. In view of this, it is recommended to change the mineral oil in the Nexia gearbox to synthetic/semi-synthetic before the car has driven one hundred thousand kilometers.

You need to know how to check how many liters of gear oil are in the unit. It is recommended to check it every 8-16 thousand kilometers. The oil in the gearbox must be poured with the same oil that is already filled.

Procedure for changing transmission lube

How to change gearbox oil? To complete the replacement procedure, you will need 10, 13, 17 socket wrenches and a nineteen millimeter wrench. You also need a jack, a bucket for draining used oil fluid, a large syringe or oiler.

First you need to change the pan lining in the transmission. Look under the car, count the number of holes in the pan. There should be ten or eleven of them. The cover you purchase must have the same number of holes. Filling requires 1.8 liters of synthetic/semi-synthetic lubricant 80W85, 75W80, 75W90.

The sequence of actions should be as follows:

This completes the procedure for changing the transmission oil. After some time, check the amount of lubricant and make sure there are no leaks. If leaks are detected, eliminate their cause and top up the oil product.

Checking the gearbox oil level

1. Using a 13 mm spanner, unscrew the inspection hole plug located next to the inner joint of the right wheel drive in the gearbox housing and remove it.

2. Insert your finger into the hole and check the oil level.

Note:

The normal oil level is at the bottom edge of the hole.

3. If there is insufficient oil, remove the breather cap.

4. Unscrew the breather with a 17 mm wrench and remove it from the hole in the gearbox housing.

5. Clean the metal trap of the transmission inspection plug.

6. Use a syringe to add oil to the Nexia gearbox to the bottom edge of the inspection hole (see point 2). As soon as the oil starts to come out through the inspection hole

7. Tighten the breather and inspection hole plug.

Changing the oil in the Nexia gearbox

Note:

The Daewoo Nexia N150 gearbox is filled with oil for its entire service life. Only the instructions are silent about the length of the period, so presumably it is 100-150 thousand km, or 7-10 years of operation. In any case, even on a new car, it is recommended to replace the mineral water poured into the box with synthetic water.

Even during the operation of the car, it may be necessary to drain the oil and replace it, for example, when repairing a gearbox or when there is a significant oil leak from the gearbox, when it is not possible to add oil of the same brand that was poured into the gearbox. It is recommended to change the oil when the gearbox is warm.

1. Clean the bottom cover of the gearbox from dirt. Place a wide container with a capacity of at least 3.5 liters under the lid.

2. Using a 13 mm socket, unscrew the ten bolts securing the cover partly and drain the oil into a substitute container.

3. After draining the oil, completely unscrew the bolts and remove the cover. Clean it from deposits, wear products of gearbox parts and traces of the old gasket, and also clean the mating surface of the gearbox housing.

4. Then put the gear in neutral, chock the rear wheels, apply the parking brake and jack up the front left wheel to drain any remaining oil from the 5th gear housing.

Note:

You need to jack it high (to the height of the jack, maybe even more). Rotate the left front wheel backwards, and more old oil will spill out.

In this way, approximately 1.7 liters are drained, with a total volume of oil poured into the gearbox of 1.8 liters.

5. Lower the car.

6. Replace the transmission cover gasket with a new one.

7. Screw in the bolts and tighten them evenly.

8. Fill the transmission oil into the gearbox to the required level, as described in the first part of the article.
