Fifth Volkswagen Passat. Volkswagen Passat B5 - repair documentation and photo reports Is the Passat B5 suspension expensive

Do you like the Volkswagen brand, but you do not know which model you are? We bring to your attention a complete review of the Volkswagen Passat B5, which includes technical specifications, test drive, disadvantages and advantages of this car.

A bit of history

For the first time, the Volkswagen Passat B5 model was presented to the public in 1996. These cars were created on the same platform as the Audi A4, with which the fifth generation of the Passat has a lot in common: power units, etc. Like in Audi, the fifth generation of the Volkswagen Passat has power units located longitudinally, not transversely. In addition, this model is characterized by permanent all-wheel drive, and not plug-in, like others.

The fifth generation of the Passat includes a very popular sedan (4 doors) and a station wagon Variant (5 doors). The next modification of the Volkswagen Passat B5 was released in 2000. Such a gap between restyling is associated with the great success of the car among consumers. They were captivated by the excellent steering, comfortable interior and exterior design. Many will say that the cars of 1996 and 2000 are very similar, however, the new B5 is completely original. Definitely, the modified fifth-generation Tradewinds look more solid and interesting than their predecessors.

Emphasizes the status of the owner

VW Passat B5 will perfectly emphasize your high status. It has a rich basic equipment, and although some experts criticize the model for the lack of design frills in the cabin, we can confidently say that classic rigor suits it, and if you add high-quality, solid workmanship and good equipment, then this car will definitely become your favorite .

When reviewing the Volkswagen Passat B5, it is also worth mentioning the excellent sound insulation and ergonomics. Three people can easily fit in the back, and there is enough legroom for any passenger of average height.

Cons of older models:

  • small right outside mirror (poor visibility to the rear);
  • fragility of the electric drive of the central locking of the trunk lid;
  • over time, there may be problems with the operation of the “turn signals” relay;
  • failure of the heating of the front seats (if available).

The cause of the last breakdown is the squeezing of the seat foam rubber, which leads to rubbing of the heating element against the seat frame.

Council of Experts: To ensure that the trunk lid always opens easily, lubricate its hinges.

What about the engine?

The designers have provided both for the fifth generation Passat: The most popular are cars with a 1.8-liter gasoline engine. The most powerful is considered an eight-cylinder, V-shaped engine, the volume of which is 4 liters. On the roads, you can meet the Volkswagen Passat B5 with a 2-liter, 2.8-liter gasoline engine and a 1.9-liter diesel unit.

The engines of this model are quite fastidious in maintenance. For example, the longitudinal scheme complicates the replacement of the timing belt, which, according to the rules, must be done every 120 thousand km. This is necessary, so we recommend that you immediately replace the water pump as well.

The technical characteristics of the Volkswagen Passat prove that a car with a 1.8 engine is the best option. Fuel consumption is acceptable, while the acceleration time of the sedan is 9.2 s.

Minuses:

  • malfunctions of individual ignition coils;
  • the gasket of the casing of the mechanism for changing the valve timing loses its tightness;
  • the resource of the electric hydraulic tensioner of the phase change mechanism ends after a run of 150 thousand km.

The two-liter engines of the fifth Passat consume. When purchasing them, it is worth considering that the oil will need to be constantly changed and at the same time only high-quality varieties should be used.

In Volkswagen Passat B5 engines, the air filter should be changed at enviable intervals, on which the life of the supercharger depends.

Motion test

A test drive of the Volkswagen Passat shows that this car performs well on our roads. He is not afraid of changing our harsh climate. However, it is worth noting that chassis of the car is not quite designed for our roads. Its weak point is leverage. Unfortunately, the designers could not improve it.

Behind on the front-wheel drive Passat B5 there is a semi-dependent beam, on all-wheel drive -. The front suspension is a complex multi-link design. The advantages of this design: excellent driving at high speeds and holding the road when turning. Despite the fact that the price of the Volkswagen Passat is considerable, you will also lay out a tidy sum for the repair of levers.

Extreme competition between Volkswagen Passat B5 and B5.5 1.8T 20V Wagons:

The good news is that the semi-independent rear suspension will last for years. The first replacement of beam silent blocks occurs due to cracks with which they are covered after a long period of time. Sometimes you can hear a knock from behind, which indicates the wear of the upper shock absorber mount.

Volkswagen Passat B5 is great for those who love active driving. The steering is very informative. If you hear a slight knock when driving over bumps or turning the steering wheel, then you should replace a worn bearing or steering shaft cardan shaft. However, this does not make the trip any less safe.

The cost of the fifth generation Passat

If you decide on this brand, then you should consider that the price of the Volkswagen Passat is not so low. In particular, this is due to the prestige of the model and its creation on a common platform with Audi. This also affects the cost of maintaining this car.

By purchasing the Volkswagen Passat B5, you get a comfortable, well-equipped car with excellent driving characteristics. Many of its owners enjoyed driving it for the first 100 thousand km, but not to spend money on repairs.

Summing up

Summary VW Passat B5 let's start with its advantages:

  • prestige;
  • excellent equipment;
  • high-quality interior trim;
  • large interior, comfortable for both the driver and passengers;
  • high controllability and stability;
  • excellent dynamics;
  • long service life of the rear suspension;
  • high information content of the steering wheel;
  • corrosion resistant body.

The disadvantages of this model include the following:

  • high price;
  • expensive replacement and repair of the engine and front suspension;
  • in a sedan, the trunk lid can become corroded;
  • unreliable door "limit switches";
  • regular oil and air filter changes;
  • oil consumption in large quantities;
  • failure of engine hydraulic mounts;
  • turbodiesels are very unreliable
  • high mileage = expensive repairs;

Today, in the secondary market of Russia, you can meet the fifth generation trade winds. Most of its owners are satisfied with their choice and do not regret the purchase. Remember, before you buy a car, carefully study all the pros and cons!

Passat B5 interesting because it was built according to the precepts of their ancestors - Passat B1 sample of 1973 and Passat B2 of 1981, with a longitudinally mounted engine and strong unification with Audi. next generations, B3 and B4 , had a transverse motor and were built on their own platform, but on B5 returned to the idea of "audio-similarity": the car is closely related Audi A4 with the same index B5.

And the Passat B 5 turned out to be a very interesting car: the most spacious in the class, with excellent handling and comfort, but at the same time it has lost a bit of the “nationality” for which two generations of its ancestors loved so much, because the relationship with the premium brand does not pass without a trace.

Pictured: Volkswagen Passat (B5) "1996–2000

So, a strange solution in the form of a multi-link suspension in front and a torsion beam in the back slowly gained fame as an exemplary failure in terms of operational reliability and repair costs. But excellent ergonomics and a very spacious interior, and even with excellent finishing materials, migrated to, standing in line with the traditional qualities of the car in the form of a wide range of trim levels, options for motors, drive, transmissions.

Pictured: Volkswagen Passat Variant (B5) "1997–2000 and Volkswagen Passat Sedan (B5)" 1997–2000

And I must say that the build quality was also premium, and in the sense that was put into this concept during the sixties and nineties of the XX century, and not now. The car is really well made and it is felt even in small things. Everything is perfectly done, and not only the interior and exterior materials, here they really tried to make it for centuries. The only thing that prevented this from being carried out was the desire for technical excellence and the desire to be at the forefront of progress. What does this translate into in modern machines, you probably. And how things are with the old Passat, read below.

Body and interior

I must say right away that the body here is really galvanized. Unlike the sixth and seventh generations, a zinc coating is present on almost all elements and allows you to not see rust marks even if the paintwork is damaged for another year or two, unless, of course, the body element is already rusting somewhere from the inside.

Given the age of the cars, this no longer guarantees the excellent condition of the body, but through holes are rare and most often indicate the presence of chronic damage, poor-quality painting and a complete disregard for corrosion protection in general. But the number of copies in decent condition is quite large and you can definitely find a copy in good condition, if you do not limit yourself to the minimum price bar.

Just pay attention to the condition of the internal seams of the body - the danger of galvanizing is that the seams are much worse protected than the outer panels, and body problems that will appear in the coming years can be hidden behind the front appearance. But the presence of external point defects can not be greatly feared - they may spoil the appearance, but are not associated with serious design problems, rather, they speak of careless operation in winter or frequent trips on dirt roads.

The problem areas of the body are quite expected: these are the rear arches, the front part of the sills, the attachment points of the upper front suspension arms, the attachment points of the rear beam and shock absorbers, the engine compartment "aquarium", the front edge of the hood, the bottoms of the doors and the rear door of cars with a station wagon body . More corrosion loves spars near the bumper mounts. Feature B5 - frequent damage to the bottom and thresholds due to the low landing. Pay close attention to all the places that can be damaged in this way, often there are problem points and even patches on the bottom. Especially carefully inspect the front subframe and the rear wheel well, they should be checked for both corrosion and geometry violations. Damage somewhere else is most likely due to poor-quality body repair.

However, there are enough problems with the body in addition to corrosion. The drains of the engine bay niche are sometimes called the "garden" - moss can actually grow there. Constant humidity and difficult cleaning create conditions for the development of corrosion and also provoke electrical problems and water ingress into the cabin. Water can get into the cabin in other ways - most often it is the condensate drain from cars with air conditioning or the front drains of the hatch.

Less often, the culprits are door seals, they do not have a very good shape, and if damaged, water will be able to get to the passenger compartment. Banal problems with pasting the windshield can also happen, but no one is immune from this. The windshield on the B5 is overwritten quickly even by the “original”, not to mention the Chinese ones, aerodynamics are to blame. By the way, Chinese body parts for it are of very good quality, since cars based on it are still being assembled there. The headlights, bumper and front panel are at risk due to the fact that they are regularly removed when servicing the engine and cooling system. In addition, the dense layout of the radiators makes them wash very often. Carefully check the fasteners, and if there are extra gaps, you will have to find out what is to blame - body repair or careless work of locksmiths.

Salon is one of the strengths of the car. Good materials, excellent ergonomics, a wide range of options. And good performance. Most of all complaints are caused by an unsuccessful choice of backlight color, a small resource for backlighting switches and air duct deflectors, and a breaking glove box lock.

And here is not the most reliable climate system - in addition to purely electronic “climate” failures, there are problems with the reliability of the stove radiator and air conditioner evaporator, antifreeze leaks occur at the slightest overheating, but refrigerant leaks from the air conditioning system on B5 occur constantly. Most often this happens due to damage to the radiators or its hoses - they do not tolerate the constant removal of the front end for maintenance. However, breakthroughs in the condenser also occur regularly. In a word, a non-working “condo” on B5 is rather the norm, and the reason for this is not age at all.

In the photo: Interior of the Volkswagen Passat Variant (B5) "1997–2000

The cable drive of the power windows also creates problems, since the cables are relatively inexpensive to change. For the rest, without any special surprises, the car is old, you need to be prepared for both stale seats and a worn steering wheel, for many cars the mileage is actually already over half a million, if not a million. Just be careful, proper interior repair on the B5 is not a cheap undertaking.

Electrical and electronics

In general, the reliable electrical system of the machine has several serious miscalculations. I already wrote about the water in the "aquarium" above, as well as about the ingress of water into the cabin. These body problems quickly lead to numerous failures of electronic components, especially since there are a lot of them in the legs of the driver, passenger and under the seats, and the tightness is not at all outstanding.

In addition, an unsuccessful choice of the climate system fuse rating by the manufacturer leads to the fact that it melts the switching unit in the cabin, and as a result, repairs can cost a pretty penny. Fortunately, fires rarely occur, the plastic is not combustible there, but the car can remain motionless for a long time - often the area of flashing captures four or five nearest contact pads, and smoke with a smell will not please.

In the photo: Volkswagen Passat Sedan (B5) "1997–2000

By and large, there are no more serious problems, but the electrician’s nerves can still be spoiled, since the electronic filling is complicated here, the climate, the comfort unit, the multimedia system, and the immobilizer unit can fail, which is especially unpleasant. Cheaply, these problems are eliminated only by a very expensive specialist, but a garage electrician, rather, will not create a bunch of new ones, and it’s good if the car does not turn into real estate.

There are still purely resource complexities of electricians, which are already manifesting themselves with might and main. In particular, the door wiring and the engine compartment harness require attention. Resistors, relays for interior and air conditioning fans fail, plus an active antenna dies, heating, buttons and a thousand more “smart little things”. If the car was well maintained, now the electronics do not cause much trouble, but most of the copies managed to be in the hands of "collective farmers" with the inevitable confusion and layering of problems and errors.

The Passat B5 suspension is a traditional bogey of this model, but, to be honest, everything is not so bad. A rather complicated multi-link on the B5 is, in fact, the first version of this kind of suspension for Volkswagen. And even despite the serious modernization of the design compared to the original version of 1994 on the Audi A4 and major changes in 2001 with the advent of the B5 +, it cannot do without “childhood illnesses”. During the release of the model, the design was changed almost constantly, the characteristics of its individual components were improved. In the course of restyling, the attachment points of the swing arm of the suspension were modernized, they switched to the so-called “thin fingers” of the levers, they changed the levers themselves, the design of their ball bearings, the material of the fingers, and the design of the anti-roll bar.

Pictured: Volkswagen Passat TDI Sedan (B5+) "2000–05
In the 1990s and early 2000s, the suspension, which required investments and high-quality repairs, caused a shock among European second-hand buyers who were accustomed to "eternal" designs. By today's standards, the costs no longer seem astronomical.

Think about it: a complete set of eight levers for a complete replacement of a good quality front suspension costs from 18 to 30 thousand rubles. The upper price bar is a kit from Lemforder, lower - for example, from HDE, but there are other worthy options. Unfortunately, the condition of the machines is such that it requires replacement of all elements, and all partial options will only lead to new money spending in the near future.

If the entire suspension is repaired, then even on bad roads it will be able to please with a resource for a long time, in any case, there are reviews about the resource of most of the levers over 150 thousand kilometers, with the replacement of one or two levers that accidentally failed in the process.

Particularly economical B5 lovers have long mastered the repressing of ball joints, since there are enough options with a suitable finger diameter, for example, from Muscovites and Opel. A little locksmith work, and now you can change penny parts for 300-600 rubles instead of a bulkhead. You need to be careful with the "collective farm": not all the creations of the Kulibins are distinguished by reliability and thoughtfulness, although there are also genuine masterpieces with locking nuts and even reinforced steel upper levers.

It is worth noting a large number of suspension options: for different motors and types of drive, there are their own nodes, which greatly complicates the selection of components and often requires work to be done immediately on the right and left, otherwise the wheel alignment angles are violated. It is clear that all this increases the price of maintenance and contributes to the legend of the excessive troublesome suspensions. In especially advanced cases, you can find in the suspension a set of elements from later Audi A4 or even A6 - there are enough Kulibins, and more recent suspension options are really more reliable.

The rear suspension on front-wheel drive vehicles is completely indestructible, because there is a simple torsion beam. By the way, the handling of the car is still reference, so from this point of view, everything is fine. All-wheel drive vehicles are equipped with a double wishbone suspension with an additional steering arm, in fact it is a multi-link suspension. It is very strong, in any case, there are much fewer complaints about it than on the front multi-link, and the silent blocks here almost everywhere change regularly. But if the levers are damaged, the replacement price will be too big - about 10 thousand rubles for each.

Pictured: Volkswagen Passat W8 Sedan (B5+) "2002–04

The resource of shock absorbers is not too large, especially given the low landing of the car and the tendency to build up. Native components lose their effectiveness after 40-50 thousand mileage, and with non-native components, part of the charm of a complex chassis is lost. Springs, especially the rear ones, also do not have a high resource, and the price bites. Yes, and the front wheel bearings are also overloaded and often have a resource within hundreds of thousands of kilometers. In general, you need to follow the suspension not only for the multi-link.

There are practically no complaints about the brake system, except that the wealth of performance options will “please”. Often it’s not even possible to find pads the first time, let alone caliper repair kits, because there are at least six options here. In general, a paradise for dealers in spare parts and hell for buyers. ABS units can have electrical problems due to soldering, but the condition of the brake pipes and hoses on the oldest cars is sometimes already emergency, you should look carefully.

The steering is distinguished by a not very large resource of the rail - with runs “over 200”, it often begins to gradually lose fluid, and the power steering pump has a completely finite resource, but in general there are no particular complaints. Backlash is often associated not with the rail, but with broken steering column hinges.

Power steering high-pressure pipes are subject to corrosion, in addition, the hose bend near the radiator mount is at risk. With traces of oiling, it’s better to change it right away, otherwise you’ll also have to change the pump, and it’s good if you do without an accident, without the help of an amplifier, the steering wheel on the Passat is very heavy. A relatively small resource of steering rods and tips is an inevitable feature of the layout of the machine with its very overloaded front end.

Transmission

Here Passat B 5 is also good. Fortunately, longitudinal motors are combined with very strong manual and automatic transmissions, and all-wheel drive versions also have no particular difficulties. Most of the transmission units now suffer primarily from purely resource problems, wear of the anthers, drying out of the lubricant, damage to the bearings and CV joints.

Cars with manual gearboxes often have the problem of dual mass flywheel wear, the part is expensive for an old car, and often re-turned flywheels from older engines are used without any dual mass and clutch with a conventional damper. The checkpoints themselves are usually ready to work and work.

Cars with automatic transmissions are also not uncommon, mainly there are two types of transmission.

Four-speed automatic transmissions, which were installed mainly before restyling with eight-valve gasoline engines and diesel engines - from the 01N series, produced by VW itself. This is a very respectable design and, I must say, very successful. She has a separate final drive housing and good mechanics and electronics of the box itself. The main troubles are associated with the resource of the gas turbine engine blocking linings and the slow contamination of the box itself with wear products. In addition, rubber rings cease to hold pressure with age, and gaskets begin to leak, and the box loses oil.

In addition, there are quite a few plastic parts in the box, including bearing cages and clearance adjustment washers. Over time, they crumble, and in the event of abnormal sounds from the box, you should immediately check if there are any pieces of plastic in the pan. The resource of the solenoids of the box is also limited. On average, the resource of this automatic transmission, subject to an oil change every 40-60 thousand kilometers, is no less than 200-250 thousand, but it may be necessary to change the lining of the gas turbine engine and clean the valve body in the process.

Repair is inexpensive, if the structure is not brought to complete destruction. A certain amount of trouble can also be delivered by the box electronics, speed sensors and a cable. Like all automatic transmissions, this one does not like overheating and low oil levels, but it will please you with a resource if you take good care of it.

On most cars, there is a much more interesting “five-step” ZF 5HP 19FL from a “driving” point of view. Such automatic transmissions can be found on many cars, this is one of the most successful "machines" in principle. It combines high efficiency, dynamics and a good resource for today. Here, too, the linings of the gas turbine engine wear out intensively during sudden accelerations and there are also problems with the gradual contamination of the valve body, but in general, these boxes successfully nurse their 200-300 thousand kilometers before serious repairs, you only need to repair the gas turbine engine with a run of 150 to 180 thousand kilometers and change regularly base pressure solenoid without waiting for damage to the drums.

As practice has shown, these boxes easily endure active driving, even with the most powerful of the "trade wind" motors. Unfortunately, on the B5 they are severely lacking in cooling, overheating becomes a common cause of premature failure. Yes, and oil changes must be done often - much more often than with four-speed boxes.

Spare parts are widely distributed, inexpensive, and repairs are mastered even in the outback, because these automatic transmissions were installed on both Audi and BMW. There are also instances with runs over 500 thousand, which went in the same hands and required only an oil change yes.

Motors

The Passat B5 engines also got good ones. And although the design of the later series of EA827 / EA113 engines is no longer as simple as that of their ancestors on the Passat B 3 / B 4, everything is done very well in terms of mechanics. Of course, the layout causes a lot of trouble - the motor protrudes strongly forward, which is why the radiators are located very closely, right next to the fan, and the engine crankcase is too low and often suffers due to driver errors - it breaks or crumples. Compact radiators not only get dirty quickly, but also a lot of engine operations, including replacing service belts and sensors, require the removal of the entire front end - bumper, headlights and radiators with a panel.

Any violation of the geometry - and now the fan damages the radiators, and the hoses and wiring in the front part suffer additionally, and the appearance deteriorates with careless reinforcing work. In general, the layout of the engine compartment is very tight, as it is narrow due to the use of multi-link suspension on the front axle.

Before restyling, gasoline engines are mainly eight-valve 1.6 and 2.0 engines of the old EA827 series and 1.8 engines of the related EA113 series, already with a new cylinder head with 20 valves. Yes, these engines had five valves per cylinder. The age of the units is already decent, often in addition to general wear and tear, there are problems with wiring, cooling and power system hoses.

Pictured: Volkswagen Passat 1.8T Sedan ZA-spec (B5+) engine "2000–05

Eight-valve engines are one of the most successful VWs, simple and with good traction. Moreover, the 1.6 unit was put on the VW Golf and Skoda Octavia for a long time, many people remember it as an almost perfect motor, simple, reliable and cheap. The two-liter version differs only in even better traction on the bottoms, otherwise the design is just as well-oiled and comfortable. Power, however, is small, 100 and 120 hp. with., but with a two-liter engine there is already enough traction, and the younger engine in combination with the manual transmission provides quite reasonable dynamics in the city.

The timing belt is simple and reliable, repairs are not affordable, even if they are changed after the recommended 60 thousand kilometers, and not through the “regular” 90. The resource before overhaul is usually three hundred thousand kilometers, but many motors will not be able to implement it due to emerging problems with the intake and lubrication system.

With lubrication, everything is simple: a blow to the crankcase usually entails either deformation of the crankcase and oil starvation, or simply loss of oil and serious repairs. And the shape of the engine crankcase is not very successful, in corners, even at full level and high speeds, the “oiler” can flash, and at a low level, it’s really possible to ruin the engine. The crankshaft, by the way, is very reliable, often endures such troubles without consequences, only replacement of the liners and grinding is required. But the control system and the intake can, in indifferent hands, kill the engine slowly but surely. Intake leaks, sensor and ignition module failures cause accelerated wear of the piston group.

Pictured: Volkswagen Passat TDI Sedan ZA-spec (B5+) engine "2000–05

Motors 1.8 are distinguished by a more complex timing design with a hydraulic tensioner, the use of a second camshaft drive chain, which is sometimes forgotten to be replaced, and on the most powerful engine variants after restyling, it also has a phase shifter clutch.

The turbocharged version, of course, has a much more complex control system and is noticeably more difficult to maintain, but in general it has no less resource. A large load on the connecting rod and main bearings of the crankshaft of the 1.8T engine here already creates certain difficulties - with SAE 30 oil they can already be turned even with a small loss of pressure, for example, due to a short-term outflow of oil in a turn. The new crankcase ventilation system with a PCV valve adds to the hassle, it requires regular replacement. In the event of a failure, oil consumption usually increases, the intercooler becomes dirty and detonation appears. As a result, the total resource is no less than that of eight-valve engines, but the cost of servicing such a motor is somewhat higher.

Turbines on different versions of the motor also differ, but basically it is BorgWarner K 03, and on B5 + and "Americans" you can find both K04 and MHI TD 040-13. One thing unites them - there are no bad ones among them, all are very reliable. With a serviceable lubrication system and cooling after annealing, the resource of turbines is over 200 thousand kilometers.

But there are nuances that ruined a lot of supercharged 1.8s. First of all, this is the coking of the oil supply tube - it is very unsuccessfully laid, as well as the drop in oil pressure during lateral accelerations. The first problem is treated either by regularly cleaning the tube, re-laying it and installing a heat shield, and the second by raising the oil level in the crankcase above the maximum by a centimeter or two, which is about a liter and a half volume.

In the photo: engine Volkswagen Passat W8 Sedan (B5 +) "2002–04

Turbine cost 1.8T

price for non-original

66 512 rubles

In addition, we must not forget that the supercharged motor dies from any problems in the power system. Low gasoline pressure due to a “tired” fuel pump, a dirty intercooler (it is small and stands in the left wheel well, gets dirty quickly), intake leaks, sensor failures, oil getting into the intake ... There are a million reasons, and they all require a high level of maintenance motor, and the intercooler problem can be solved by installing a front, larger volume. True, in this case, the response of the motor to the gas pedal worsens.

For those who want more power and are afraid of turbo engines, V 6 and VR 5 engines are designed. Before restyling in 2001, VR 5 2.3 engines had 10 valves and a power of 150 hp. with., after the valves became twice as much, and the power increased to 170 horsepower. The problems here are the same as for the newer VR 6 engines in Touareg and Superb - a complex timing chain with a floating resource, a complex cylinder head design, a high mass of the cylinder block, and a tendency to overheat when the cooling system is contaminated. But in general, these are good engines for those who are ready to service an old and complex motor.

In the photo: engine Volkswagen Passat W8 Sedan (B5 +) "2002–04

But for fans of large aspirated engines, there is a better option, a V 6 2.8 engine. By the way, this is not VR 6, there are two separate cylinder heads, similar in design to a 1.8-liter engine - a timing belt drive and a rear chain. But the problems and features are exactly the same as for 1.8 engines, adjusted for size and weight. By the way, instead of this motor, during repairs, three-liter Audi engines of the same series are often installed.

Diesel eight-valve engines 1.9 and 2.0 are also revered as one of the best. In addition to standard diesel troubles, only the high cost of pump injectors can be noted, there are losses of oil pressure on the camshaft, as a result of which shafts and rockers wear out, and a tendency to increase oil consumption in the most forced options with a capacity of 120+ horsepower with mileage.

Now most of the problems of any B5 and B5 + engines are related to their age, the features of specific designs are of little importance at an age of over 10 years and an average mileage of more than two hundred thousand kilometers. But the margin of safety inherent in those series of motors is still palpable, and even after the overhaul, they can please the owners for a long time.

What to choose?

Once this car confidently won in comparison with any classmates, and now it looks very good. Even in comparison with modern counterparts, and even more so - with cars a class lower. The body and interior are well preserved, the electrics feel worse, but there are also no global difficulties in maintaining a normal state. Motors and transmissions in general have a good resource, although the most running 1.8T motor must be recognized as quite expensive to maintain.

Well, the suspension, which many are so afraid of, if not saved, is very reliable and provides a high level of comfort. As a last resort, there are “collective farm” repair options, so at the current cost of spare parts and competent repairs, B5 owners should not be ruined.

The car has only one serious minus - it's VW Passat, and it is often bought by people who hope to get a very reliable and cheap car that does not require anticorrosive, with cheap spare parts, etc. As a result, “collective farming” begins with unsuitable spare parts from showdowns, cutting at car washes and maintenance, spending thousands of dollars on spare parts after serious breakdowns, and as a result, attempts to sell the car at a higher price to the next “connoisseur”.

It is said that VW parts dealers got rich on this model, and this is close to the truth. It's one of the first VW cars to become very maintenance-demanding, with a large range of parts, and hard to handle. But for the comfort and high performance of the chassis you have to pay, at least a little.

If you are not ready, then look for a cheaper and simpler car, for example, Passat B 4, or Vectra B. And if you are ready, then the risk can pay off, especially with careful selection of an instance and proper maintenance.

owner of a 2004 Volkswagen Passat B5

The only damage is a twisted liner. With the exception of the motor, nothing broke from the word "absolutely" (two cracked windshields do not count, no one is safe from this). The car went in a good configuration: Alcantara with a leather steering wheel inside, repeaters, fog lights and chrome trim on the outside, which pleases. Added cruise control. I am pleased with the attitude of other drivers in Russia: when I drive faster than the flow (for example, 130-140, and the flow is 100-120), then absolutely all cars, including more expensive ones, calmly let me through. Calm and respectful attitude, regardless of age. The traffic police almost never slow down (the account goes for 1 time in 2-3 years). I am also very glad that in Scandinavia and the Baltic States, where I travel quite often, I feel at home on this Passat. I don’t want to change for anything - in terms of comfort, the car still overtakes the same Jetta and Octavia. The Passat B8 and the new Superb are not bad in principle, but with a price of 2 million, they somehow no longer fall under the "car for the middle class". Another thought: if we draw an analogy with games, then the Passat B5 is more likely for those who prefer Civilization to any Need for Speed and GTA. It's not that they don't find The Great Car Theft interesting - they've just played enough of it before.

The year 1996 was significant for Volkswagen car lovers - the new Passat B5 sedan was released. And the next year, 1997, Volkswagen pleased with the Passat B5 Variant station wagon. After the start of production of a new family, the German holding seriously set a course for the production of luxury cars. In order to justify the trust of buyers, cars had to meet such basic requirements as: a powerful engine, good handling, solid body design, comfortable interior, and most importantly, car reliability.

The basis for the new Passat series was the already well-established platform from the Audi-A4. The new Tradewinds borrowed from Audi the same aluminum front suspension and longitudinal engine placement. The updated body demonstrated a high level of safety and low resistance to the flow of oncoming air.

In 2000, the Passat family underwent its first modernization. The front and rear bumpers, main headlights, taillights, instrument panel illumination color (green replaced by blue), as well as the front wheel suspension have changed.

Our essay can help those who wish to become the owner of a Passat B5 with mileage in choosing a car. We will also try to help you deal with the optimal maintenance of the car, the timing of the replacement of working fluids, consumables, parts and assemblies that have exhausted their resources.

Given the rather impressive age of the fifth series, the Passat retains a solid army of fans and continues to enjoy success in the market. There are a large number of people who want to purchase both a sedan and a station wagon from 1997 to 2001, but the desire alone and the availability of funds for the purchase will not be enough for you for further operation. Until the advent of Volkswagen, the 2014 model year really lived up to its name and was a real people's car that was cheap, reliable and easy to maintain.

The body of the car is completely made of galvanized steel, the guarantee for the body of this model is 12 years. Accordingly, the corrosion resistance is quite high, which is a characteristic feature of German cars. As a conclusion: if you find signs of rust on the body, then this car has most likely been in an accident and was not properly restored, and therefore it is worth thinking about buying.

Finishing of all interior elements at height. You may get the impression that the car is a class higher than it really is. Wood finish (with a wide range of variations) leaves a feeling of high cost and chic, panels are fitted with minimal gaps, there is a choice of additional options to the basic configuration. In general, in the "duel" with competitors of the same price category, the Passat clearly wins in the interior standings.

With additional equipment, the basic equipment is not particularly impressive. The kit consists of two airbags, an anti-lock system, an adjustable steering wheel column with hydraulic booster, central locking (from the key) and electric rear-view mirrors and front side windows. But the range of options will disarm any skeptic.

You can get xenon headlights, automatic rain and light sensors, various multimedia systems, air conditioners or climate control systems, electric heating of not only the seats, but also the steering wheel, natural leather trim in various colors, a set of sunroofs and other “bells and whistles” of expensive cars.

Specifications

Traditionally for Volkswagen models, the range of engines is quite wide. But the fifth generation Passat, like no other, is the happy owner of a set of fifteen engines (eight gasoline and seven diesel engines) with a power range from 90 to 193 horses, as well as a flagship - a four-liter V-shaped "eight" with a capacity of as much as 275 horsepower!

Gasoline units are equipped with a distributed injection system, and diesel units are equipped with a distinctive feature of the Germans - a TDi system (turbo-diesel injector) with pump injectors.

The 1.8-liter turbocharged engine with a capacity of 150 horsepower, as well as the 2.8-liter engine (non-turbocharged), deserved the greatest recognition. The line of motors of our Passat and today is kept at a decent level, practical and reliable. It is necessary to climb under the hood, as a rule, due to improper operation.

The manufacturer recommends changing the engine oil after 15 thousand mileage, but experienced drivers, in order to extend the engine life, will advise you to change the filter and oil after 10 thousand miles. Note that only synthetic oil should be used, which will extend the life of engine and turbine parts (if any). AI-95 will have to be fed to gasoline engines, and all kinds of additives should be excluded from the diet. The engines are not particularly economical, the average consumption in the combined cycle will be about 10-12 liters (for a 1.8 T engine), and if you are a fan of fast driving, then get ready to fill in 15-16 liters of fuel. Due to the possible untruthfulness of the seller, the odometer readings may not correspond to reality, therefore we advise you to change the timing belt after purchase (the factory recommends replacing it after 120 thousand kilometers).

Weak spots

Sometimes at idle, the engine may triple a little, the help of a qualified craftsman is most likely not needed, since the cause is a clogged throttle valve. Relatively often, the coolant pump (pump) fails due to the use of low-quality antifreeze, which gradually corrodes the pump seal.

For a turbocharged engine, the weak point is the turbine itself, in order to extend its life, before turning off the engine, let it spin at idle for about a minute.

Malfunctions of gasoline engines are most often uncharacteristic of diesel engines, but the latter have their own little whims. Drivers often make the mistake of spinning up to high speeds of a turbodiesel engine, which is categorically contraindicated, as it reduces the safety margin of cylinders and pistons. But with timely maintenance, they run up to four hundred thousand kilometers. If the temperature sensor malfunctions or there is insufficient lubrication, the turbine may fail. We recommend monitoring the coolant level, if there is a shortage, the boost valve may fail and the compression may drop due to valve burnout.

Particular troubles and investments can be caused by the breakdown of such a part as the timing belt tensioner, when it breaks, the valves collide with the pistons and serious problems cannot be avoided. Due to the low quality of diesel fuel, pump injectors can deteriorate, the replacement of which is very costly. So do not save on the quality of diesel fuel.

There are practically no complaints about gearboxes (five- and six-speed mechanics), but subject to maintenance and oil changes in accordance with the regulations. The clutch disc will have to be replaced after two hundred thousand miles. There may be a slight play in the shift lever, but this will not create problems. Automatic transmissions (four-speed until 1999 and five-speed with tiptronic function after) are reliable as well as German-style mechanics. The oil will have to be changed after 60 thousand of the distance traveled.

Although the car and the "folk" prices for spare parts will bite you in the wallet. But you should not be surprised, because the car contains a lot of complex technical solutions and, of course, quality. The absence of problems with finding original spare parts will console you, since (we repeat) the Passat of the fifth series has a large army of fans. The positive moment is a long-term acquaintance and "communication on you" with the Passat B5 service station masters who will be able to quickly and efficiently repair your car.

Volkswagen Passat B5 has high German quality, reliability, comfort, while its price remains quite attractive. Many fans call the Passat B5 the best Volkswagen ever made.

Back in 1996, Volkswagen released another Passat, which turned out to be not just another, but completely different. As a legacy from the previous model, the new Passat received only a name, Volkswagen developed everything else from scratch. The new B5 has become not at all a “people's” car in terms of maintenance, but has received a number of advantages over the old generation.

What is the difference?

When creating a new model, the manufacturer focused on design, quality of materials and comfort of movement. For the B5, they took the 1994 Audy A4 platform. Along with the platform, Volkswagen also inherited a front multi-link aluminum suspension, several engines with a longitudinal arrangement and a couple of other nodes. The body was created taking into account passive safety and aerodynamics, and was produced fully galvanized (12 years warranty), so there are usually no problems with corrosion (unless there were accidents, of course), with the exception of the only place - the rear number plate illumination area. The new Passat began to look and ride much more solid and prestigious, and after restyling in 2000, the model received updated bumpers, front and rear lights and began to look even richer. The changes affected the front suspension and interior (the most noticeable change is the bright blue instrument lighting).

The first owners often bought a car in a rich configuration, so it’s easy to find copies with full “minced meat” on the market. Although even in the base there is climate control, ABS, front power accessories and two airbags.

Which engine to choose?

In total, the engines that were installed on the Passat B5 were as many as 17 pieces (10 gasoline and 7 diesel), but in “our area” gasoline 1.8 with a turbine was most widely used. Not so common are two-liter, 2.8 V6 and turbodiesels with a volume of 1.9 liters. The rest of the motors are rare. Due to the longitudinal arrangement of the engine, the procedure for replacing the timing belt has slightly risen in price (masters have to disassemble almost the entire front of the car, and the work itself costs $ 100), the belt must be changed every 120,000 km (or immediately after purchase, because faith honestly, the speedometer does not exist). A set of spare parts for replacing the timing belt will cost from $120 to $300, depending on the manufacturer (respectively quality). Together with the belt, it is imperative to change the water pump - it will not last two terms ($ 50-80).

When buying, be sure to check the turbine (if any), or bargain for an extra $ 800-1000 for a replacement. The average service life of a turbine in Pasaty is about 150,000 thousand km, but this period is fundamentally dependent on the quality of service and the way the car is operated. For long-term work, you need to observe some things:

  • Always pour high-quality synthetic oil into the engine;
  • The engine maintenance interval should not be less than once every 7-10 thousand km (although the manufacturer recommends an interval of 15 thousand km, but in our realities it is better to reduce it);
  • Every 30 thousand km clean the oil pipe of the turbine (it is advisable to change it every 60 thousand km, and after purchase it is necessary);
  • Change the air filter at least every 15-20 thousand km;
  • Do not turn off the engine immediately after a dynamic ride, you need to let the turbine "rest" at idle for a couple of minutes (or install a turbo timer).

Unfortunately, not all owners comply with at least half of these rules. Signs of imminent "death" of the turbine: whistle or howl and extraneous noise during its operation, oil on the body, decreasing howl after stopping the engine. The characteristic breakdowns of the 1.8T and V6 engines include ignition coils that regularly fail and the electro-hydraulic tensioner of the phase change mechanism, the life of which usually ends after 150 thousand runs (this mechanism was not installed on 1.8T AEB engines until 2000). A two-liter engine loves to eat oil. An alternative to the 1.8T engine can be VR5: a 5-cylinder engine that has the same power, but without a turbine. It pulls well from the very bottom, and instead of a belt, it has a more reliable timing chain (it darkens this idyll, only more noisy engine operation).

If you decide to buy a diesel engine, then you should think about the fact that a diesel passenger car is rarely bought to drive 15,000-20,000 km / year. If you are sure, then you need to opt for a turbocharged 1.9 liter. These engines have proven to be quite reliable and, with proper care, can easily run up to 400,000 km. Possible problems:

  • Turbine - the problems discussed above, for gasoline models;
  • High-pressure fuel pump is a bad diesel fuel, especially if water gets in, then repairs are expensive;
  • Cylinder-piston group, if the previous owner was a racer (110 forces is not enough for a dynamic ride and the engine has to be spun);
  • It is necessary to flush the tank and clean the nozzles annually;
  • Candles usually go no longer than 60 thousand km.

Gearboxes Passat B5

Before restyling, there was only one manual gearbox - a 5-speed one, after 2000 it also appeared with six speeds. The mechanics are usually problem-free, and the clutch, during “human” operation, “survives” up to 200,000 km.

Automatic machines on the VW Passat B5 were installed in two types:

  • The old 4-speed is “thoughtful”, but terribly reliable (do not forget to change the oil along with the filter every 60 thousand km)
  • Newer 5-speed Tiptronic, with the possibility of manual shifting, which is the main problem of this box. After 150 thousand mileage, the valve block and gear packages often fail.

For mysterious reasons, automatic transmissions with high mileage (over 200,000 km) can "die" from a banal oil change. Therefore, many owners are reinsured and dream that the box lasts until the sale without changing the oil and filter.

Is the Passat B5 suspension expensive?

The ride quality of the B5 suspension is praised by everyone - it is comfortable, it holds the road perfectly, it enters into turns wonderfully! Such characteristics were obtained thanks to the complex multi-link front suspension (4 levers per wheel), but you have to pay for it. Today, everything is not as scary as in 1996-1999, then the lower levers rarely went more than 30-40 thousand and there was no such choice of alternative spare parts. After restyling, the situation with durability has improved slightly. Many are scared off by the myth that the entire front suspension on the Volkswagen Passat B5 needs to be changed - this is not true. The main source of the spread of the myth is official dealers who are reluctant to bother with the replacement of individual levers, and you can earn more on a complete replacement. You will have to buy a complete set of levers and tips of the front suspension if it is already completely “killed” (when buying, this is easily checked at any service and you can safely bring down the price by $ 600-700) or if you are going to drive this car for a long time (the kit is cheaper, than each part separately, and you will gradually change individual parts as needed). The quality of spare parts can be divided into three categories:

  • Original - the quality is on top, but the price is even higher. In addition, it is easy to run into a Chinese fake, which you will buy for a fortune;
  • LEMFORDER, HDE, Ruville are German manufacturers who value their name and monitor the quality of their products (LEMFORDER gives a guarantee of 80,000 km for a set of levers and you can buy this set for $500);
  • China, Turkey, Taiwan - the quality leaves much to be desired, and the packaging may contain loud inscriptions: GERMANY, ITALY, USA, which show where the Brand is registered, and the production will be you know where and you yourself know how.

Based on the above, it is recommended to choose the golden mean. The rear semi-independent suspension on front-wheel drive cars is almost eternal, usually it is changed from old age, as cracks appear on the rubber parts. On all-wheel drive versions, the rear suspension is independent, but does not cause any particular problems and runs about 100,000 km. By the way, all-wheel drive on the Passat is a copy of the Quattro system on Audi. During operation, it does not cause any problems (the oil in the gearbox and transfer case is filled at the factory for the entire service life), and the permeability in winter and dirty times increases dramatically.

Outcome

Volkswagen Passat B5 is a worthy car that deserved such popularity for a reason. When choosing a used car, carefully diagnose all the problematic points that have been considered, and you will have a real chance to buy a great car. Otherwise, owning a Passat can be a burden even to a good family budget.

For your information!

If the electrics in the car began to “fail”: the windows themselves open, the central locking and the alarm system live their own lives, then moisture has reached the comfort block, which is located near the driver’s left foot. The solution is deep floor mats.

The year 1996 was a special sensation for Volkswagen fans. During this period, the fifth generation of this brand of car with a sedan body, which was factory marked B5, saw the light. The car opened a new stage in the history of the line. With the release of the modern generation, the German manufacturer decided to seriously approach the category of luxury vehicles.

Volkswagen Passat B 5 became more technologically advanced, and also approached prestigious cars in its status. To ensure a solid level of technical performance, the main parameters were:

  • powerful engines;
  • excellent handling;
  • comfortable salon;
  • solid interior and exterior;
  • high level of reliability.

The Audi A4 autocar was used as a platform for creating the fifth generation. The aluminum front suspension was borrowed from him, as well as the location of the power units of the longitudinal type. The body of the new German car model provided an excellent level of safety and low aerodynamic drag.

Already next year, the Passat was expected to be upgraded. In 1997, the car was released with all-wheel drive, and in 2000, Volkswagen underwent a planned restyling. The main objective of the modernization was to increase engine power and improve environmental performance.

This Passat model marked the transition to a new design solution. It was demonstrated on a special Concept One uniform. The new generation of Volkswagen can be described as a large representative of the luxury class, which looks somewhat contradictory. This is due, in particular, to a low-level, streamlined outline with small-sized optics on the front and rear. It is because of this that the car has an uncharacteristic appearance.

Initially, the B5 was offered in two body styles. The first of these was a sedan, and the second was a station wagon. The main parameters of the model:

  • length - 4669-4704 mm;
  • scale in width -<1740 мм;
  • height - 1460-1499 mm;
  • the distance from the ground to the bottom of the car is 110-124 mm.

Regarding the interior, it is worth noting its solidity and representativeness. The instrument panel is equipped with two large dials. Between them is the information display of the trip computer. The steering wheel has a rex-spoke design, as well as the brand's emblem.

The interior decoration of the German representative is made of quality materials, including:

  • plastic;
  • decorative inserts;
  • leather.

Car seats have a wide profile and a decent range of adjustment. They are perfect for people of all sizes. Luggage compartment AT 5 designed to carry 475 liters of luggage. If you fold the backrest - 745 liters.

Model equipment

The fifth generation car has a rich basic package. Most experts questioned the strict interior of the model, which does not differ in design solutions. However, the classics, combined with the quality of performance, as well as practicality, appealed to many. In addition, Volkswagen's ergonomics and noise isolation were not in doubt.

The car has a significant capacity, which allows you not to feel cramped while in it. However, the owners of this model note several shortcomings. First of all, these are not the appropriate dimensions of the rear-view mirrors. Many point out that the limited view in the fifth generation models causes some inconvenience. In addition, the disadvantages include problems with the central lock (only encountered in the station wagon modification) and insufficient heating of the seats.

but it is worth noting the modified suspension and modern electronic devices . Basic equipment B5 consists of:

  • 4 airbags;
  • electropackage;
  • climate control;
  • tinted windows;
  • adjustable driver's seat.

In addition to the basic one, three more variations are offered to choose from Comfortline, Trendline and Highline.

Power units

The fifth generation engine line has always been the pride of this brand. Volkswagen Passat B5 was equipped with both diesel and gasoline power units. The most popular are:

In addition, the manufacturer offers three variations of the gearbox: five- and six-speed manual type, as well as automatic. The fifth generation is significantly different from the previous one. Good handling of the model, according to experts, is achieved due to the multifunctional front suspension.

The appearance of the B5 is solid and dynamic. The round shape of the rear lights complements the sporty look of the car. The interior is equipped with many decorative panels "under the tree", as well as details of leather and chrome steel.

Specifications Passat B5

The fifth generation of Volkswagen is still a popular model today. Even despite the considerable age of the car, it remains in demand even now. Before the advent of this model, the Passat really belonged to the group of simple cars.

Equipping with advanced electronics and the presence of other technologically sophisticated details makes the choice to be taken with particular seriousness. In this case, the following is taken into account:

  • tuning costs;
  • the need for testing;
  • repair B5;
  • prices for auto parts;
  • the state of the unit;
  • possible breakdowns.

As for the body characteristics, the body of the car is completely galvanized. The presence of rust indicates poor-quality restoration of the coating after an accident. The German manufacturer gave a guarantee on the body - 12 years. The fact shows that its resistance to corrosion remains at its best. . For German cars, this has already become a tradition.

What's inside?

Under the hood of this model, you can find one of six gasoline-type units. For this brand, a five-cylinder V-shaped engine with a volume of 2-3 liters was offered. Its power is 150 hp. with., and also 250 Hm of the maximum moment. The category of four-cylinder units consists of atmospheric and turbocharged engines. Their volume varies from 1.6 to 2 liters with a generation of 101 -150 horsepower. The rotational thrust of the unit ranges from 140 to 220 Hm.

The leading position is occupied by a 2.8-liter engine that develops 193 horsepower. The torsional thrust of the unit is 290 Hm. The vehicle was equipped with a front-wheel drive transmission by default. In addition, the 4Motion technique was available. Passat of the fifth generation to the first 100 km / h accelerates from 7.6 to 15 seconds, depending on the modification. The maximum speed of the model is 177–238 km/h.

The B5 is based on the PL45 platform, the power unit of which is located longitudinally. The steering system is equipped with power steering, and the brake package includes full disc brakes. It is worth noting that in front they are equipped with ventilation. The rear suspension is represented by a semi-independent scheme, which is equipped with a torsion beam on machines with front-wheel drive, and with a full one - an independent "multi-link". The front is a two-lever design.

The main advantages of the model

The owners of the Volkswagen Passat B5 describe the model as a car with a stylish design that has a roomy interior and a robust design. Maintenance of a representative of the fifth generation costs an adequate amount. It should be noted that the vehicle also has:

  • a large compartment for luggage;
  • optimal fuel consumption;
  • high level of sound insulation;
  • quality finishing materials.

The suspension for domestic roads turns out to be quite stiff, and there is also a small clearance to the roadway. The interior of the cabin creates a feeling of high cost and chic, it seems that the B5 is a class higher than it actually is. Passat stands out from its competitors. This is due to the solid interior and a large selection of additional equipment.

The gasoline units of the model are equipped with a distributed injection system, and the diesel itself is equipped with TDI communication, which is equipped with pump injectors. Car engines remain quite worthy and reliable to this day. As a rule, malfunctions occur as a result of improper operation, as well as untimely maintenance.

Maintenance

In accordance with factory standards, it is worth changing the oil every 15,000 km along with all filters. However, domestic experts advise to carry out the procedure after 10,000 km. The functioning of the turbine, as well as the smooth functioning of all parts of the unit, directly depends on the quality of the oil, so it should only be synthetic.

  • type of built-in engine;
  • technical condition of the unit;
  • forms of driving a car owner.

The average engine consumption of the most popular unit is 1.8T, which is 15-16 liters in urban conditions.

Immediately after purchase B 5 it is recommended to replace the timing belt. According to the regulations, the procedure is performed every 120,000 km. This must be done to ensure safety. On many machines, the readings of the ordometer do not correspond to the real mileage, so one can only guess about the real numbers.

Possible problems

During the operation of the vehicle, breakdowns and malfunctions often occur. In the category of malfunctions and possible problems of the fifth generation Passat, first of all, it is necessary to include suboptimal engine idling. This error is actually very easy to fix. The main cause, as a rule, is a clogged throttle valve.

In addition, almost every 50,000 km, the water fuel pump fails. This is due to the use of poor quality antifreeze, which destroys the pump seal. However, the most vulnerable point of the B5 motor is the turbine. In order to prolong its service life, the engine should be idling for several minutes before turning off the car.

If we consider diesel units, then most of the breakdowns of gasoline engines are not characteristic of them. But in this case, you can not do without trouble. The main faults are:

  • rapid wear of the pipe;
  • breakdown of antifreeze;
  • inflatable valve failure;
  • compression drop.

The most serious malfunction is considered to be a breakage of the tension roller. . This leads to a break in the timing, as well as friction of the valves on the pistons.

What is the result?

Manufacturers AT 5 represent the brand as a national brand. However, the pricing policy of parts is not at all democratic. This could be expected, since the mechanism of the car is quite complex in technical execution. The fifth generation Volkswagen Passat is a fairly common brand, so there are no problems with spare parts, which is good news.

Model B5 is a direct result of the achievements of the German holding. Summing up, we can say that this is one of the best cars in the history of Volkswagen. The main advantages of the vehicle include:

  • high level of reliability;
  • excellent handling;
  • high-quality trimmed salon;
  • high marketability.

Basically, all breakdowns and malfunctions occur due to the fault of users, as well as improper maintenance and untimely replacement of components. As mentioned above, it is TO that plays the main role.

What do we end up with? The fifth generation Volkswagen Passat is a reliable, comfortable and high-quality car, the price of which remains quite reasonable. For many years in a row, he holds the position of the best family car. Among the huge number of foreign cars, even today it is distinguished by its presentable appearance. This is a car that is really worth the money.
