The new Explorer 2020 is expected to be developed on the same platform as the Lincoln Aviator. Most likely, the model will be rear-wheel drive (but, for sure, an all-wheel drive version will also be available to buyers). The latest CD6 modular platform was created for front-wheel drive models, but Ford is expected to use a different variant.

At an automobile exhibition in China, the concern presented a new Ford Explorer 2020 dressed in camouflage. But this “wrapper” did not prevent us from seeing that the updated SUV has a smoother design than the current version. In particular, the front panel received a smaller cone, and the wheel arches received a larger rounding. The hood looks shorter and the roof is humpbacked. These changes give the road car a sporty look. There is room for the trunk on top, and the tailgate is more upright.

Perhaps the 3.5-liter V6 will go away. Experts believe that a 2.7-liter twin turbo V6 will be added to the lineup, which in principle could lead to 335 hp in the Edge ST.

As for the gearbox, the current 6-speed automatic is likely to be replaced with a 10-speed unit, which recently appeared in the restyled version of the Expedition.

Price

The current Explorer model costs just over $33,000 in base trim, while the Explorer Sport is around $47,000. The Explorer Platinum starts at $55,000. According to preliminary information, the price of the 2020 Ford Explorer, whose photo is “walking” on the Internet, will be more: from 36,000 for the basic version to 60,000 US dollars for a “stuffed” car.

Design

Having moved to a new "cart", the Ford Explorer expectedly received other proportions and dimensions of the body. The distance between the axles of the American-style crossover increased to 3025 mm (+160 mm), the length increased to 5050 mm (+3 mm), the width and height remained the same - 2004 and 1778 mm. In the external design of the car, there have been major changes that have affected the design of most body parts. However, the family features of the model - the rear darkened roof pillars and the original configuration of the rear optics - were retained. But in front, the crossover has changed beyond recognition - there are other headlights, a new grille and bumper. The stern, in turn, acquired a slightly tweaked trunk lid and an upgraded bumper with integrated exhaust tips, the number of which depends on the modification.

The profile of the new Ford Explorer features a shorter front overhang and a sloping roof that adds a sporty touch to the car.
