All Himself - Clutch replacement for Toyota Auris and Corolla. Toyota Corolla clutch replacement - robot. Toyota Auris - robot Phased replacement of clutch robot on Toyota Corolla

A 2007-10 Toyota Corolla (and Auris) car is equipped with a dry-type single-disk clutch with a central diaphragm spring. When the clutch fails it is recommended to change all its elements at once: (driven and driving discs, clutch release bearing). This is motivated by the fact that replacing the Toyota Corolla clutch is not the easiest procedure, and if something has already broken in the clutch, then the resource of the remaining clutch parts is reduced. That is, after suffering with the replacement of the clutch and changing only one faulty component, you should not be surprised if, after a relatively small problem, problems with the clutch again arise, but because of a different part.

Causes of Toyota Corolla Clutch Failure

Leads clutch- Incomplete clutch disengagement can be for many reasons. Among them, there may be a reduced travel of the clutch pedal, leakage of GTZ fluid, skewed pressure plate, and some others.

Clutch slips- incomplete engagement of the clutch also does not have an unambiguous reason. There may be oiling of the friction linings of the driven disc, surfaces of the flywheel and pressure plate, increased wear or overheating of the friction linings of the driven disc, lack of free play of the clutch pedal or jamming of the clutch drive.

Jerks during clutch operation- can be caused by increased wear, oiling or weakening of the friction linings of the driven disk, as well as damage to the surface of the pressure disk.

Increased noise when disengaging the clutch- indicates wear, damage or leakage of grease from the bearing, breakage or decrease in elasticity of the damper of the clutch release disc or the clutch release fork fixing spring, breakage of the plates connecting the pressure plate to the casing.

What you need to replace the Corolla clutch:

    wrench 11 (socket will be more convenient);

    screwdriver;

    mandrel for centering the driven disk.

REMOVING AND INSTALLING THE CLUTCH TOYOTA COROLLA

Replacing a clutch robot on a Toyota Corolla is one of those procedures that owners of these cars face. For the most part, this is due to the fact that the Japanese manufacturer has not developed a robotic clutch for their cars, and therefore they are very capricious in operation and very often fail. As a rule, only 70,000 - 100,000 runs on our roads are enough for them, and they begin to run out of steam and gradually die.

Replacing this part at the service will cost you a pretty penny. Therefore, there is a proposal not to spend a lot of money on the service, but to buy a robotic clutch and replace it, so to speak, at home - do everything with your own hands.

The weakest point in the Corolla, which always suffers, is the clutch. And before talking about replacing it, it's worth talking about how you can extend his life. The first and foremost thing you should do is to try to switch to neutral when you stand at traffic lights or in traffic for a long time. In addition, for this type of clutch, it is necessary to change the oil every 60,000 kilometers, and not as provided for in the technical passport of the car. Performing such actions will help prolong the youth of this technical unit. However, all this is not for long, up to a maximum of 150 thousand mileage. After that, hums and malfunctions will gradually appear, they can only be eliminated by replacing the robot.

Phased replacement of the clutch robot on the Toyota Corolla

If your clutch is already out of order, you should not rush to the service station, you can replace it yourself with your own hands, while saving a lot of money. To replace it, we need a garage with a pit, skillful hands and a complete clutch kit. This includes:

  • Clutch release bearing;
  • Disc with clutch basket.

Before buying the last set, you need to make sure that the box is original. This can be done by requesting the relevant documentation from the seller of this node.

So, when we have all this, we can proceed to the phased replacement of the clutch robot. At the first stage, we need to disconnect the air flow sensor, all air duct clamps, remove the air filter. Pay attention to the photo so as not to get confused.

After that, we need to unscrew, but not pull out the gearbox mounting bolt, it is imperative to disconnect all the connectors from the gearbox, and after that unscrew all the mounting bolts. Again, follow the photo.

After completing all these steps, you can proceed to disassembly of the ball. First of all, unscrew the hub nuts and all the fasteners of the ball joint that go to the lever, this will allow us to remove the drive shafts. IMPORTANT: PRELIMINARY DRAIN OIL FROM THE BOX!

Having done all this, we proceed to unscrewing the front gearbox cushion, after which we proceed to pulling the drive shafts out of the box - this will make it easier to remove the gearbox.

After the drive shafts have been removed, we need to raise the box so that the upper gearbox mounting bolt can be easily pulled out. We take it out - who did not understand this is the bolt that we unscrewed, but did not pull out at the very beginning. It is important to pay attention to the oil seal, if there is oil around it, when installing the structure, we will have to replace it in order to eliminate the oil leakage.

Having pulled out the bolt, unscrew all the bolts securing the box and slightly pull it away from the power unit. The box removal process is complete.

Having removed the box, we begin to remove the clutch from the flywheel. We check it for wear, its wear should not exceed 0.5 mm, and the surface should be smooth and, most importantly, even.

After checking the flywheel, we begin the installation of a new clutch and be sure to center the clutch disc, after which we change the bearing. This completes the process of replacing the clutch robot on the Toyota King. Everything can be put in place. We do it in the same way as we disassembled, only in reverse order.

Initialization

After everything is in place and the car is actually ready to leave the garage, we need to carry out the clutch initialization process - this is necessary so that the gears shift correctly and do not spoil the new parts. This process is quite complicated, so it is best to contact a specialist who, with knowledge of the matter, will quickly make the settings. Having made initialization the car is completely ready for a trip.

It is very important to know here that this procedure must be performed every 20 thousand kilometers traveled. By performing the procedure, you prolong the life of your clutch and allow it to do its job well.

Clutch replacement on a Toyota Corolla with robotic gear shifting. Everyone has heard a lot about the fact that the robot on Toyota is very capricious and should be avoided, so I want to say that everything is wrong. Robots on Toyota Corolla and Auris are quite strong. Regarding their counterparts, Honda, Mitsubishi, Opel and Peugeot. The first models with robotic boxes came with minor defects, but toyota corrected the situation by upgrading and not refining it in mass production. And the recall of models of old releases, and the replacement with a new model was made absolutely free.

Now consider what are the advantages in robotic. Everything was conceived in order to unload the driver from the obligation to shift gears. This is especially annoying in traffic jams and to maintain the throttle response and fuel consumption inherent in mechanics, and they succeeded. The only negative in it are smooth delays when shifting gears. The difference in consumption is about 2 liters per hundred kilometers.
The frequency of replacing the clutch on the robot depends on the intensity of the ride. This is approximately from 70 to 120 thousand km. mileage

To replace the clutch we need clutch kit, this is a disc with a clutch basket and a clutch release bearing. Preferably all original.

We disconnect the connector of the mass air flow sensor, the air duct clamps and the latches of the air filter housing cover. Then unscrew the lower part of the air filter housing.

We unscrew the bolt securing the gearbox cushion but do not remove it. Disconnect all connectors from the gearbox. Then we unscrew the upper mounting bolts.

We unscrew the hub nuts and fastening the ball joint to the lever to remove the drive shafts. Pre-merge from the checkpoint.

We unscrew the front gearbox mounting pad and pull out the drive shafts from the box for the convenience of dismantling the gearbox.

We install thrust racks on the gearbox and the engine so that it does not sag and slightly raise the gearbox to remove the upper gearbox mounting bolt, which we previously unscrewed from the top. As you can see in the photo from the left gland of the drive, oil was snotty, which is why this cavity is black. During installation, we will replace it with a new one to eliminate oil leakage. Next, we unscrew the gearbox mounting bolts in a circle and pull the box away from the motor with a mount, it sits tightly on the guide bushings. And now the checkpoint is already on the floor.

We remove the old clutch from the flywheel and check the flywheel itself for wear. Wear should not exceed 03 - 05 mm. And its surface should be even and smooth. As a rule, the flywheel fails very rarely.

We install a new clutch on the flywheel and center the clutch disc. Change the release bearing to a new one. And install checkpoint. The assembly procedure is exactly in reverse order.
After assembly, the initialization (adaptation) of the clutch is carried out.

Clutch initialization Toyota Corolla and Toyota Auris.

Before you begin self-initialization of the clutch, remember if you cannot initialize correctly. The gears will stop turning on and you will have to call a tow truck to transport the car to the service.
1. Prepare (a"):
- Stop the car.
- Move the gear lever to position N.
- Switch off the ignition.
2. Using SST, connect the TC and CG pins of the DLC3 connector.

- When initializing the transmission: N > E > M > - > M > - > M > + > M > + > E > N.

8. Release the brake pedal.
9. Press the brake pedal again.
- The buzzer will beep at 0.5 second intervals for the number of times indicated below (the interval between cycles is 2.5 seconds).
- Twice during ECU initialization (1 cycle)
- Three times during clutch initialization (1 cycle)
- Four times during transmission initialization (1 cycle)
NOTE:
- If the buzzer does not beep as described above, turn off the ignition and wait at least 15 seconds. Then repeat the steps from step (a").
- If the buzzer beeps at 1 second intervals (instead of 0.5 seconds), turn off the ignition and wait at least 15 seconds. Then repeat the steps from step (a").
10. Depress the brake pedal at least 3 times within 2 seconds.
- The buzzer will emit 2 beeps at 0.25 second intervals.
11. Switch off the ignition and wait at least 10 seconds.
12. Initialization completed.
13. Disconnect the SST from the TC and CG pins of the DLC3 connector.

The Toyota Corolla brand is reliable and hardy, it will rarely require serious repairs, especially if you are a responsible driver, respond in time to changes in the vehicle's performance and prefer to diagnose rather than eliminate the consequences.

But no matter how conscientious a driver you are, there is a natural wear and tear of the elements of systems and mechanisms of any car, so a complete repair cannot be avoided.

Regarding the Toyota Corolla clutch, such a restoration will be needed approximately once every 90,000-100,000 km. Here are the factors that should alert you:

  • uncharacteristic, previously absent creak;
  • crackling sounds;
  • increased noise;
  • well-felt slip;
  • the appearance of a rattle when switching speed;
  • strong vibration during gear shifting;
  • jerking with active drive;
  • pedal slip and drop.

It is worth emphasizing that such manifestations can be avoided by taking preventive measures, then the problem will not take you by surprise, but Toyota clutch repair cannot be completely avoided, since nothing is eternal.

The presence of several of these signs is an accurate indication that the clutch needs to be replaced in the car. Clutch replacement can be done by car service masters, but it is not so difficult to do it yourself.

What is most prone to breakage

In the Corolla clutch system, you may encounter a malfunction:

  • bearing;
  • cylinder;
  • forks;
  • baskets;

Gentle driving can significantly prolong the life of these parts.

Device replacement

During long-term operation, mechanical wear of some elements of the system occurs. Most often, overheating leads to this, serious violations in the system occur, threatening unforeseen consequences. Usually such a manifestation is slipping, which can overtake both at a sharp start and when driving at high speed. A confirmation of your fears may be the P0810 error signaling in the diagnostics.

There is only one way to fix such a malfunction: You need to replace the complete clutch kit, i.e. bearing, basket and disc.

Manual - manual transmission

robotic box

Both a breakdown of the electrical transmission system and a mechanical malfunction in the robot can occur.

An electrical failure can be due to several reasons:

  • the occurrence of an error in the settings of Toyota Corolla;
  • there was a violation during the initialization of the transmission.

Such a malfunction manifests itself in the form of a strong jerking of the Toyota Corolla at the start. Similar manipulations occur when reaching the neutral position. The scoreboard displays the error code and this helps to make sure that the diagnosis is correct by comparing the codes and symptoms.

After a certain period of time, the system starts working correctly. If the error is in the control (it is under the code P0810), then both electronic and mechanical failure are very likely.

The code P0900 indicates an open circuit of the motor or its breakdown.

In the Toyota Corolla "robot", clutch replacement can be done independently if you follow this plan:

  1. Buy an original kit consisting of a clutch disc, basket, release bearing.
  2. Disconnect the air flow sensor disconnect, unscrew the clamps from the air duct and the latches from the air purification filter, then remove the bottom of the filter.
  3. Unscrew the screw that secures the gearbox and release the connectors, but do not completely pull out the bolt itself.
  4. Loosen the screws at the top.
  5. Drain the oil from the Toyota Corolla gearbox by first unscrewing the hub nuts and dismantling the ball. Then remove the shafts.
  6. The line behind the front cushion under the gearbox, then remove the drive shafts from the box.
  7. With the installation of thrust racks on the motor and box, you can remove the previously unscrewed bolt from the gearbox.
  8. Take care of the gearbox mounting bolts, unscrew them only in a circle, then use the mount to pull the gearbox away from the engine. Thus the box can be dismantled.
  9. Remove the damaged part from the flywheel, check the correct operation of the flywheel (whether its surface is completely smooth and without splinters).
  10. Proceed to mounting the clutch in the right place, center the disc.
  11. Replace the bearing and mount the box according to the same algorithm, but in reverse order.

Clutch initialization

Successful Toyota Corolla clutch replacement depends not only on the mechanical side of the process, but also on the initialization of the replaced mechanism. Before deciding to carry out this manipulation on your own, adequately assess your capabilities, the process is quite complicated, and in case of an unsuccessful outcome, you will be forced to deliver the car to the service center using a tow truck.

Initialization algorithm:

  1. Switch off the ignition, lever to N.
  2. Connect TC and CG of DLC3 connector.
  3. Hold for 10 seconds and turn on the ignition.
  4. Depress the brake pedal quickly (seven times in three seconds).
  5. After two beeps, press and hold the brake to initialize the ECU, clutch and transmission while shifting gears.
      Action plan:
    • ECU: N > E > M > - > M > - > M > - > M > - > E > N.
    • Coupling: N>E>M>+>M>->M>+>M>->E>N.
    • Transmission: N>E>M>->M>->M>+>M>+>E>N.
  6. Release the brake and apply again. If you heard a double, triple and quadruple beep with an interval of 2.5 seconds, you have successfully initialized the mechanism. If this does not happen, hurry up to call a tow truck and send your Toyota Corolla to a car service.

Clutch plays an important role in a car. Often this mechanism fails due to wear and other negative factors. How to independently carry out such a process as replacing the clutch and mechanics?

Replacement on the robot

So, the robot clutch replacement is carried out as follows:

  1. You need to purchase a new clutch kit. It includes a disc equipped with a clutch basket, as well as a release bearing. The important point is that these parts must be original and not used.
  2. Disconnect the mass air flow sensor, air duct clamps, and the latches of the air filter housing cover. After that, the lower part of its housing is dismantled at the air filter.
  3. The bolt on the gearbox pad is dismantled, but it is not necessary to pull it out, then the box connectors are disconnected and the bolts located at the top are unscrewed.
  4. The next step is the dismantling of the hub fasteners, as well as the fasteners of the ball joint of the drive shaft removal lever. Before that, it is necessary to drain the lubricant from the box.
  5. Next, you need to remove the front gearbox mounting pad, and also pull out the drive shafts. These actions will greatly facilitate the removal of the gearbox. After that, it is worth installing a stand to rest on the gearbox. The same racks should be placed under the power unit, this is necessary so that the car's engine does not sag.
  6. Raise the box slightly and remove the top bolt.
  7. The fasteners are dismantled, the box itself is pulled away from the engine using a mount. After the box moves freely on the bushings, it can be removed.
  8. The flywheel should be checked for wear. It should not exceed 0.3–0.5 mm. It is important to add that the surface of the part to be checked must be even and smooth.
  9. Change the release bearing. After the new clutch has been installed, the clutch disc must be centered.
  10. The next step is to assemble the mechanism in reverse order.
  11. After the replacement of 2007, as well as other similar models, it is necessary to initialize the clutch on the robot.

    Important! Before you independently engage in the initialization of the gearbox, it is worth remembering that an incorrectly performed operation will lead to a breakdown of the car, to eliminate which you will have to transport the car to a service center. Therefore, the initialization process should be taken with full responsibility.

    Initialization process

    Replacing the clutch of a Toyota Corolla robot 2008, 2007 and subsequent years of production does not end with the physical replacement of system components. In order for the process to be completed, it is necessary to carry out initialization.

    The clutch on the Toyota Corolla is initialized as follows. You need to stop the car. The gearshift lever is moved to position N (neutral position), the engine is turned off. Using SST (or a regular wire), the DLC3 connector and the TC and CG pins are connected. 10 seconds after connecting, you need to start the engine. Within three seconds, press the brake pedal seven times. The buzzer will signal that the operation is successful: it will beep twice with an interval of 0.25 seconds. Next, the brake is pressed. Without releasing the pedal, move the gearshift lever to the following positions:

  • ECU:NEMMMMEN
  • Clutch:NEMMMMEN
  • Transmission:NEMMMMEM

After performing this action, release the brake pedal and press it again. The buzzer will again notify that everything is being done correctly by the appearance of a sound signal. The interval between signals is 0.5 seconds. At the same time, they will be emitted during the following cycles: two signals during the initialization of the computer, three during the initialization of the clutch and four during the "tuning" of the vehicle's transmission.

For two seconds, you need to press the brake pedal three times, the buzzer will again make sounds, the interval between them will be 0.25 seconds. After that, you can turn off the ignition system of the car for 10 seconds.

The initialization process is completed, it remains only to disconnect the connected devices.

Important! If the buzzer does not accompany the processes described above with a sound, or notifies you, but in a different sequence, then you should turn off the ignition system, wait 15 seconds and repeat all the steps from the very beginning.

Thus it is possible to replace the robot of cars of 2007 and the subsequent years of release. However, this cannot be done without accuracy and care. Each wrong action can lead to costly repairs in a car service. But in general, do-it-yourself clutch repair by a robot is a completely feasible process for every motorist.

Mechanical replacement

The process of replacing a clutch with an engine capacity of 1.6 will be significantly different from replacing a similar mechanism on a robot. However, on the mechanics, everything can be replaced with your own hands, without contacting a service center. It is important to note that the main reason for replacement is that the clutch is slipping. That is, with an increase in speed, the car will not accelerate properly.

The process of replacing the clutch mechanism on the mechanics of the 2008 Toyota Corolla begins with the removal of the gearbox. It is removed in exactly the same way as when replacing the clutch on a robot. It is important to note that it must be removed carefully, try not to damage the rest of the components and mechanisms of the car. Having removed the gearbox, you can directly proceed to disassemble the vehicle's clutch system.

You need to remove the flywheel and inspect it carefully. If this is not done, then there is a high probability that worn parts of the flywheel will cause more serious damage. For example, if the clutch does not release, freezes, and the reverse is constantly turned off, then the problem is in the worn flywheel. In addition to the flywheel, it is necessary to check the pressure and release disks. Well, when replacing, it is worth considering that not only the disks and flywheel should be changed, but also the fork and the basket. After installation, you need to make a basket platoon. The cocked basket will work long enough and reliably.

It is worth remembering that a well-placed coupling mechanism for a Toyota Corolla in a 120 body and other models guarantees a long and reliable operation of the car.

Consequences of improper maintenance of the mechanism

It is also necessary to remember how much the car “walks” on the original clutch. If you do not take into account the period of the maximum possible operation of the mechanism without maintenance, then the car begins to slip and slip literally out of the blue. Also, reverse gear may not turn off, or, conversely, it will turn off without any reason.

Therefore, having removed all the components of the clutch system, it is necessary to carefully check everything and, in case of severe wear, replace certain parts. This applies to both automatic and manual transmissions. A well-made replacement rejects the presence of play and gearbox squeaks. Therefore, the assembly process must be carried out carefully and accurately.

Now you should decide on the question, which is better to put the clutch? It is worth knowing that the clutch on a 1.6 liter engine and a 1.5 liter engine will be the same.

So, it is best to install the original parts of the coupling mechanism. However, if they are too expensive or not available, then you need to stock up on high-quality counterparts.

Conclusion

The clutch of a car is one of the most important components. Not only the comfort and safety of traffic, but also the performance of the car depend on it. In case of wear, it is necessary to immediately replace the failed parts with new ones. Otherwise, negligence threatens to cause more serious damage, as well as a risk to life and health.
