Functions of ATF oil in automatic transmission Suzuki Jimny:
- effective lubrication of rubbing surfaces and mechanisms;
- reduction of mechanical load on the nodes;
- heat dissipation;
- removal of microparticles resulting from corrosion or wear of parts.
- wear of automatic transmission seals;
- wear of the shaft surfaces, the occurrence of a gap between the shaft and the sealing element;
- wear of the automatic transmission sealing element and the speedometer drive shaft;
- play of the input shaft of the automatic transmission;
- damage to the sealing layer in the joints between parts of the automatic transmission: sump, automatic transmission housing, crankcase, clutch housing;
- loosening of the bolts that provide the connection of the above parts of the automatic transmission;
Due to a lack of oil or low-quality oil in the Suzuki Jimny automatic transmission:
- plungers and channels of the valve body are clogged with mechanical particles, which leads to a shortage of oil in the packages and provokes wear of the bushing, rubbing parts of the pump, etc.;
- the steel disks of the gearbox overheat and wear out quickly;
- rubber-coated pistons, thrust discs, clutch drum, etc. overheat and burn;
- the valve body wears out and becomes unusable.
You can check the oil level in a Suzuki Jimny automatic transmission using a dipstick. The dipstick has two pairs of marks - the upper pair of Max and Min allows you to determine the level in hot oil, the lower pair - in cold. Using the dipstick, it is easy to check the condition of the oil: you need to drop the oil onto a clean white cloth.
When choosing a Suzuki Jimny automatic transmission oil for replacement, you should be guided by a simple principle: it is best to use oil recommended by Suzuki. At the same time, instead of mineral oil, semi-synthetic or synthetic oil can be poured, but in no case should an oil “class lower” than prescribed be used.
Synthetic oil for automatic transmission Suzuki Jimny is called "non-replaceable", it is poured for the entire life of the car. Such oil does not lose its properties under the influence of high temperature and is designed for a very long period of use of the Suzuki Jimny. But we must not forget about the appearance of a mechanical suspension as a result of friction clutch wear with a very significant mileage. If the automatic transmission has been operated for some time in conditions of lack of oil, it is necessary to check the degree of its contamination and, if necessary, replace it.
Ways to change the oil in an automatic transmission Suzuki Jimny:
- Partial oil change in a Suzuki Jimny box;
- Complete oil change in a Suzuki Jimny box;
A complete automatic transmission oil change for Suzuki Jimny is carried out using an automatic transmission oil change unit, auto repair specialists. In this case, more ATF oil will be required than the Suzuki Jimny automatic transmission can accommodate. Flushing takes one and a half or double the volume of fresh ATF. The cost will be more expensive than a partial replacement, and not every car service provides such a service.
Partial ATF oil change in a Suzuki Jimny automatic transmission according to a simplified scheme:
- We unscrew the drain plug, drain the old ATF oil;
- We unscrew the automatic transmission pan, which, in addition to the bolts holding it, is treated along the contour with a sealant.
- We get access to the automatic transmission filter, it is advisable to change it at each oil change, or rinse it.
- At the bottom of the pallet there are magnets that are necessary to collect metal dust and chips.
- We clean the magnets and wash the pallet, wipe it dry.
- Install the automatic transmission filter in place.
- We install the automatic transmission pan in place, replacing the gasket of the automatic transmission pan if necessary.
- We twist the drain plug, replacing the drain plug gasket for the automatic transmission.
Many modern residents strive to have personal vehicles, since it is the car that provides free movement along the desired route at any time. However, in order for the vehicle to always be trouble-free, it is important to monitor its technical condition and take preventive measures in time. One of these procedures is the replacement of transmission oil in the Suzuki Jimny automatic transmission. Some owners of such a car may argue that a gearbox is not needed. They confirm their words with the recommendations of the automaker. Indeed, the manufacturer fills in oil and orients buyers to the fact that it will last for the entire operational life of the vehicle. However, any rule can be accompanied by important exceptions, which we will talk about today.
Do-it-yourself instructions for changing the oil in an automatic transmission Suzuki Jimny.
Replacement process
You can find in the technical manual information that the transmission oil is changed during repair work, when the gearbox is inoperative. Also, an urgent need for a leak occurs. However, not only these two force majeure circumstances force the owners of the Suzuki Jimny to carry out this important technical event. Experienced specialists recommend such a replacement not only in these two cases, but also with a certain frequency.
Replacement frequency
In the gearbox, the oil still has to be changed due to the fact that Russian motorists operate the Suzuki Jimny far from the conditions in which the vehicle was subjected to technical tests. It is no secret that the quality of the fuel that is poured into the Suzuki Jimny in Russia is significantly inferior to the fuel that is offered to motorists abroad. Also, the quality of the road surface should not be discounted. Some highways really deserve admiration. However, the car has to move not only along the central highways, but also along the roads of the periphery, so potholes, pits and other road “surprises” increase the load on the main units of the vehicle.
It is for this reason that it is recommended to change the gear oil after overcoming 45 thousand kilometers if a manual transmission is installed on the Suzuki Jimny. If you are the owner of a car with an automatic transmission, then the term for changing the TM is slightly increased. Oil changes every 60 thousand kilometers. You also need to change the TM if you find signs of a leak. Reasons for leakage include:
- wear of the main elements of the gearbox (shaft surface, seals, sealing ring);
- shaft play;
- loosening of bolts;
- seal failure.
What kind of oil to fill
- high-quality lubrication of contacting metal elements, reduction of friction force;
- reducing the load on the main components of the unit;
- cleaning by eliminating small metal particles;
- decrease in temperature during operation of the unit.
Before visiting a car dealership, it is useful to arm yourself with information on which specific technical product you need to purchase for Suzuki Jimny.
It is recommended to purchase Dextron-III oil from an auto shop if your car has a manual transmission. If your Suzuki Jimny has an automatic transmission then look for API GL-4 SAE 75W-90 transmission fluid. Never pour oil into this vehicle. Such frivolity will only harm your car, provoke its failure. Unfortunately, this will be followed by an urgent need for repair work, loss of funds.
Sequencing
Transmission fluid replacement is carried out according to the full or partial scheme. If a complete replacement requires certain skills, as well as tools and devices that the car owner simply does not have, then a partial replacement of the TM is easily carried out on its own, even in garage conditions. Initially, you should thoroughly warm up the main units of the vehicle, which include the automatic transmission. To do this, you need to start the engine and drive for at least ten minutes in your car. During this time, the transmission oil will warm up and will flow out much faster.
Now you need to drive the car into the pit, unscrew the drain plug, immediately substitute the container into which mining will begin to drain. This process will take some time, you just need to wait. When the mining stops flowing out, it is necessary to unscrew all the bolts holding the automatic transmission pan. It may be necessary to cut the sealant that also holds the pan.
Now pay attention to the pallet, rinse it thoroughly from dirt. Pay special attention to magnets. Their main purpose is to hold metal particles resulting from friction of automatic transmission elements. This is followed by the installation of a cleaned pallet, tightening the drain hole.
After that, you need to unscrew the filler plug and pour in the necessary. You have to pour different amounts:
- for manual transmission - 1.9 liters;
- for automatic transmission - 3.7 liters.
After filling, it is important to immediately measure the oil level using the dipstick. Even if you are convinced that the TM level is normal, do not relax, get behind the wheel of your car, drive at least ten kilometers, then measure the TM level again. If it does not exceed the maximum and is not below the acceptable minimum, we can confidently assume that you have completed such a responsible technical procedure.
So, the replacement of transmission oil should be carried out for any vehicle after overcoming a certain number of kilometers. It is not difficult to replace a TM in a Suzuki Jimny gearbox. We are sure that now you will carry out such procedures in time, preventing the failure of the gearbox.
On Jimny, I prefer to change the ATF with a partial replacement of "leaked-filled". It changes (usually) no more than 2 liters, but I try to make such replacements more often. But since the run for 100 t.km and the operating conditions cannot be called easy, I decided to remove the pan and change the automatic transmission filter. Moreover, he removed part of the exhaust tract, which simplifies the task.
Remind me that I have Automatic transmission after the so-called. reystaling 2004.
According to the instructions, before unscrewing the pan, you need to unscrew a piece of the exhaust tract (which passes under the automatic transmission) and the upper part of the dipstick tube (it is simply inserted into the lower one and bolted somewhere to the body). I don’t know, maybe someone manages to do without these actions, but the path was already unscrewed, and it’s not so difficult to unscrew one tube fastening bolt if you can crawl by hand.
Even before unscrewing the pan, you need to drain the ATF and be sure to screw the drain plug back on! Quite a lot of ATF remains in the pan; when removed, this liquid will definitely pour through the drain hole.
There is still about 1 liter in the pan, i.e. in total, he drained about 3 liters in this way, which is more than usual, but less when as many as 4 liters have merged.
In the tray (pictured in the left and left upper parts) there are two magnets for collecting metal dust. There was a small deposit on the pallet and magnets, but not to say that much.
This is what the automatic transmission looks like without a pallet:
Be careful, ATF will still drip. Now you can unscrew the filter (three bolts):
To replace the new filter 26570-76J10.
A sealing gum is placed on the filter, it is not included in the kit! You can rearrange from the old filter, but I decided to change it just in case, since there is an opportunity. Part number 26545-54J10.
Also replaced the pan gasket. Part number 24784-66H10
And not in vain. The original gasket did not leak, but after removal it felt like hard plastic.
Collected everything. ATF is different now.
