Black Obelisk: the experience of owning a Cadillac SRX I. Technical characteristics of the Cadillac SRX

At the beginning of this century, the rules of the premium crossover game had not yet been finalized. Automakers were just finding the right form factor, balancing on the fine line of their own desires, capabilities and vague consumer preferences. Therefore, when drawing the exterior of their first crossover, Cadillac did not look back at all sorts of X5, ML and RX300. Like, we ourselves have a mustache!

In the past, the opportunity to get a Cadillac station wagon was either for clients of body shops (just remember Elvis Presley and his Deville 72 years old at the ASC atelier) or for passengers in hearses. And yet, before me is their successor. A huge five-meter obelisk made of black stone, sparkling with raw edges and nostalgic taillight keels. The most impressive successor to the Art and Science design strategy, still inspiring both interest and some awe.

Inside

The oak interior of the pre-restyling SRX was not saved from criticism even by its similarity to the CTS, which was so beautifully turned into a sieve by bullets in the second part of The Matrix. The interior of the updated Cadillac has nothing in common with it. Not a single similar detail – it’s time to talk about a new generation. True, in reality this restyling was not even identified as an independent stage in the history of the model.

Laconic design of the front panel, high-quality materials and attention to detail. For example, the door closers have all four power windows, and the bottom of the doors completely covers the threshold - goodbye dirty marks on your jeans. The Yankees have finally come to their senses. The plastic is pleasant to look and feel. The seats, center console, door card inserts and door armrests are upholstered in good leather. “Tree” is the required minimum, and even the analog chronometer on the center console is quite appropriate.

The chairs are far from the sofa associations that evoke the Cadillacs of the past. A successful profile, an abundance of electric drives, memory and seat belts, running in the style of a coupe from the upper part of the backrest. Those for whom the proposed settings are not enough can move the electric pedal.

Three of us back? Easy: the sofa, despite the vertical back, is hospitable, there is a lot of space both in the legs and above the head. When folded flush with the trunk floor, it forms an excellent bed. A panoramic roof begs to be seen here, but the first owner considered it unnecessary. Romantics will be offended, pragmatists will be consoled by the heated steering wheel and a huge hold with plenty of compartments for luggage, and the Bose audio system is a delight for everyone.

In move

SRX became one of the first Cadillacs to receive a vague letter index instead of a sonorous name. A controversial decision, especially against the backdrop of an engine belonging to the famous Northstar clan. Members of this family are known for their irresistible zest for life. The SRX is equipped with a V8 with variable valve timing and a partial cylinder deactivation function, which contributes not only to economy, but to some extent to the survivability of the mighty 4.6-liter engine.

Engine

Thoughts about how useful these qualities are disappear the first time you touch the gas pedal. The primitive roar of a large-sized naturally aspirated engine will make the blood boil even in a phlegmatic car enthusiast. But in order to really experience all the charm of the 320 Detroit horses, you will have to stomp on the gas pedal. The piece of black stone is catapulted as instantly as if it had been kicked by an angry giant.

When pedaling quietly, the SRX is much less dramatic. It accelerates confidently from any speed, and the slight thoughtfulness of the six-speed automatic is not a hindrance to it. The sport mode makes more noise than it does good. The roar of the exhaust turns from a pleasant background into an unnecessary irritant, spoiling the impression of generally more than decent sound insulation. And that's not to say the Cadillac doesn't drive on its own, like, say, the CTS coupe. In the sprint, it happily competes with the BMW X5 4.4. Then what are the complaints? Wrong priorities. My. In Europe, a crossover with a V8 must be at least a little “sporty”. The SRX is sporty, but only by Cadillac standards. It was born in a country and a brand for which a V8 on such a colossus is the norm. With this understanding, everything will immediately fall into place.

The SRX is the ideal companion for the seasoned adventurer. Throw your travel bag into the oversized trunk without looking and rush away. It’s better early in the morning on a weekend, while the city is sleeping on the night from Friday to Monday, so that no one gets in the way. Then you won’t have to blame the weakness of the brakes once again. There are no comments during smooth decelerations, but during intense braking, especially from high speeds, the confidence is no longer the same.

In the process of training on the Nurburgring, where the developers lured the SRX, Cadillac learned a lot about the road habits of the highest European society. But knowing and being able are not the same thing. Sincerely, in a European way, I could not fall in love with the turns of Cadillac. The SRX, like a locomotive, is stable on a straight line and tries its best not to lose face during high-speed maneuvering. You can play around, and it’s not at all scary; with a five-meter length, the SRX has an unexpectedly narrow body, but... such aerobatics is not addictive. There is just enough feedback on the steering wheel.

But lateral rocking, which, judging by its ancestors, should have been firmly ingrained in the Caddy's DNA, is kept to a minimum. For the lack of roll and excellent ride quality, we can thank the suspension with MagneRide adaptive shock absorbers. The Cadillac soars easily and calmly over the pockmarked asphalt, as if the surface had been renewed only yesterday. But on large bumps the suspension sometimes gives in, stunning you with a hard breakdown. Another reminder: “Rely on the suspension, but don’t make a mistake yourself.” Again, the money will be safer.

Cadillac SRX I
Claimed fuel consumption per 100 km

On light off-road conditions, thanks to permanent all-wheel drive, albeit with a free center differential, but with a self-locking rear differential, as well as a ground clearance of 200 mm, the SRX is not at all a helpless urban cowboy, as it might seem from the outside. He grinds the snow-water porridge without choking and confidently storms country roads powdered with deep, loose snow. The main thing is not to forget that the center differential divides the thrust in a ratio of 40:60, and the torque itself is 427 Nm. If you overdo it with gas on frozen asphalt, you will have to work with the steering wheel, trying to extinguish the beginning skid. But having stabilized, Cadillac rushes forward like a tank.

In the market, he would have such tenacity in sales! But no. SRX, even in its homeland, has always been in stable, but low demand. And when daring, enthusiasm and luxury with a loud soundtrack in a charismatic package managed to go out of fashion...

Purchase history

Some people buy cars not for several years, but for a short period and for specific purposes. In the spring, for example, interest in convertibles intensifies - wealthy aesthetes rush to buy a toy for the summer. In 2015, Anton had the task of going on vacation with his family to Abkhazia. This is a good thing, but at that time he had personal use of cars that were completely unsuitable for this - a Chevrolet Corvette C5 Z06 and a Ford Probe.

The search was conducted according to very non-trivial criteria: age no older than ten years, all-wheel drive, V8 with no less than 300 hp, and all this at a price of about 500,000 rubles. It turned out that several powerful all-wheel drive vehicles fall under these parameters: Chevrolet Tahoe and Trailblazer, Ford Expedition along with the co-platform Lincoln Navigator, as well as Cadillac SRX. Since full-size SUVs in this budget turned out to be in absolutely bad condition, Anton began to look closely at Cadillac.

As a result, a red pre-restyling SRX 4.6 with a rich configuration was chosen, which cost 300,000 rubles, plus about another 100,000 rubles were needed to put the car in order. During the trip, the SRX performed exceptionally well - comfortable, roomy, pleasant to drive and amazingly durable. Like a Christmas tree flashing various error lights on the dashboard, the Cadillac nevertheless did its job.

Having ultimately driven this SRX for four months, Anton was so imbued with its spirit that he decided to look for the same one, but in good condition and after restyling. There was no point in tidying up the red copy, if only because the car was pawned. As a result, the SRX was sold to resellers for 200,000 rubles.

The search for a successor dragged on for four months. Only after reviewing eight St. Petersburg copies, rusty, after an accident, with a non-functional steering rack and a humming rear axle, Anton found what he needed: 2008, bought new in St. Petersburg, two owners and 100,000 original miles. Unfortunately, the package was not complete - Anton really wanted an SRX with a panoramic roof, but he had to take what he had. The crossover cost him 600,000 rubles.

Repair

This generation of SRX is built on a common platform with the CTS and STS sedans, but is heavier than even the largest of them by almost 200-300 kilograms, so the main problem of the crossover is the suspension. For example, wheel bearings are a consumable item, especially for those who like larger wheels. Anton drives standard 18-inch ones, but is already accustomed to changing hub assemblies five to six times a year. A non-original part costs about 8,000 rubles, and replacement work costs 2,000 rubles. Why save money when you can get the original? The answer is simple: original parts are many times more expensive, and the service life, although longer, is not enough to justify the purchase.

Some owners of SRX with MagneRide suspension, if they need to replace shock absorbers, in order to avoid spending almost 150,000 rubles on repairs, install struts from simpler versions. But since smart shock absorbers are actively involved in the car’s stabilization system, if communication with them is lost, it will not work correctly, which means that you will have to install decoys or reprogram the system. This is exactly what the previous owner did - upon visiting the service for the first time, Anton found out that the front of his SRX had regular shock absorbers instead of the required MRC ones. He himself did not support this trend, and when it came time to change the rear shock absorbers at a mileage of 120,000 km, he replaced them with original ones. Parts and work cost 90,000 rubles.

Rear air suspension compressor

price for non-original

6,000 rubles

But when the rear part of the crossover began to sag noticeably, Anton installed a non-original compressor for the rear air suspension, buying it for 6,000 rubles on eBay. It didn't last long, however. When inspecting the suspension this year, it turned out that the original rear shock absorbers, along with the compressor, should be replaced.

With a mileage of 130,000 km, the air conditioning tubes running along the bottom became frayed. Substitutes can be used here too, but Anton again decided not to skimp. The cost of parts and work amounted to 30,000 rubles.

When one day the engine started to misfire, I had to replace one of the sets of ignition modules. Due to a cracked rear locker, road dirt began to fly onto the parking sensor, which ultimately led to its replacement. Among the more classic types of work, we had to deal with repairing power steering and replacing drive belts with rollers for air conditioning and a generator.

Exploitation

Over the past three years, Anton managed to increase the mileage of the SRX to 160,000 km. Cadillac has more than once become a faithful assistant when traveling around Russia and Europe. Despite the relative rarity of the model compared to its German or Japanese classmates, there are no difficulties in finding spare parts. Both original and analogues are available. But you need to be prepared for the fact that maintaining an SRX with MagneRide suspension in good original condition can easily cost more than servicing a Cadillac Escalade.

Cadillac is demanding in terms of service quality - especially when it comes to electronics and body repairs. Getting into an accident while driving an SRX is generally not recommended: the cost of body parts, as often happens, is expressed in crazy numbers.

Expenses:

  • Regular maintenance with oil and oil filter changes - every 8,000 km
  • Fuel consumption in the urban cycle – 24-25 l / 100 km
  • Fuel consumption on the highway – 15 l/100 km
  • Fuel consumption in the combined cycle – 20 l / 100 km
  • Fuel – AI-92

Plans

The SRX will be up for sale soon. Anton plans to move on and change it to a Mercedes-Benz GL.

Model history

The first Cadillac crossover appeared in 2004. It became the second model of the company implemented in the Art and Science design strategy. Since the new SUV was based on the platform of the CTS and STS sedans, the base version had rear-wheel drive, while full-time all-wheel drive was an option.

Pictured: Cadillac SRX "2004–09

Two engine options - V6 3.6 (255 hp) and V8 4.6 (320 hp) - were combined exclusively with automatic transmissions, with five stages before restyling and six after it. The top-end SRX boasted MagneRide active suspension, a panoramic roof and a third row of seats. The main feature of the 2006 restyling was a new interior, more consistent with the status of the model.

The Cadillac SRX is the best-selling crossover of this manufacturer both in its homeland, in the USA, and in our country. In 2012, the upcoming transformation of the model was announced, and last year the new Cadillac SRX was presented at the New York Auto Show. The crossover in a new look reached Russia quite recently.

History of the Cadillac SRX

Cadillac SRX is a truly solid American crossover

The Cadillac SRX was born ten years ago, back in 2004. Over the next two years, the crossover managed to become one of the best-selling cars in its class and was twice nominated for the title “Car of the Year.” In 2009, the second generation of the popular crossover saw the light of day, which became no less popular than its predecessor.

– affordable and well-equipped cars. You will find a detailed description of them in our article.

The second generation was created based on the Provoq concept car, which in turn was built on an all-wheel drive platform called GM Theta Premium. In the spring of 2012, GM announced its intention to update Cadillac, which resulted in a restyled version of the SRX crossover appearing a year later.

The new Cadillac SRX has been transformed both outside and inside. Features of technical equipment deserve a separate article, so we will have to dwell on the main differences between the third generation of crossover from GM.

Appearance Cadillac SRX

Externally, the crossover is still monolithic and aggressive. The faceted slots on the huge false radiator grille are now dressed in chrome, with a large company emblem in the very center. The front and rear bumpers have become smoother and more expressive. Now in front there is a compact air intake slot, on either side of which there are fog lights with a chrome trim. Light-alloy aluminum wheels with a diameter of 20 inches have also been transformed.

From the side, Cadillac stands out with its large arch radii and air intakes on the front wings, which, by the way, now have their own lighting. The roof is slightly sloping and domed. The doors have a high window sill line and fairly compact glass. The bottom of the crossover is covered with black plastic protection. The body also acquired another color option – Xenon Blue Metallic.

The crossover image is complemented by large vertical headlights with adaptive bi-xenon and running lights. From the front, the Cadillac SRX looks not just brutal, but assertive, even stern. The dimensions of the crossover are 4837 mm in length, 1910 mm in width, and 1669 mm in height with 179 mm of ground clearance.

The Cadillac interior has been transformed much more. It is as solid as before and looks very expensive. The center console has been refreshed, and the dashboard now features a large multi-function display with USB ports and an SD card slot. The steering wheel is heated. There are also control buttons for the CUE information system, which is installed on the center console. The system allows you to configure an audio system with Bose acoustics (with eight speakers) or Bose 5.1 with 10 speakers, and adjust the climate control. CUE is also equipped with navigation and displays images from the rear view camera.

The driver's seat can comfortably accommodate a person of almost any size. All adjustments and settings are at arm's length, everything is located ergonomically and conveniently. The steering column can be adjusted in depth and height, and you can even customize the pedal assembly. The driver's seat has eight-way adjustment (with dual memory), adjustable lumbar support, heating and even ventilation, although only in the top trim levels. Heating is optionally available for the second row of seats.

I would especially like to note the sound insulation of the Cadillac. Both modern soundproofing materials and multi-layer double-glazed windows are used here. Between the rows of seats there is a system of structural barriers that prevent noise from under the car from entering the cabin.

The second row of American-style seats is comfortable and spacious; even three people can sit quite comfortably. If desired, you can order a panoramic roof with electric drives for the hatch itself and the sunshade. However, this solution is suitable only for true connoisseurs of comfort. There are many options for interior trim, so choosing the color and material to suit you is not difficult.

The cargo compartment of the Cadillac SRX has a volume of 844 liters, and with the rear seatbacks lowered, this figure increases to 1730 liters. The tailgate is equipped with an electric drive, and its opening angle can be changed.

Among the new safety features, we note blind spot monitoring systems, lane departure control, and a warning system for possible front and rear collisions.

Specifications Cadillac SRX

In Russia, there are two engine options for the Cadillac SRX. The base engine has a volume of 3 liters and produces power up to 272 horsepower. This V-six peaks at 7,000 rpm and has excellent acceleration dynamics. After restyling, the engine became somewhat more economical and not as picky about the quality of gasoline as it was before.

According to official data, fuel consumption is about 13.6 liters in the city, 8.6 liters on the highway, and about 11.2 liters in the combined cycle. The maximum speed with such an engine is limited to 210 km/h, acceleration to 100 takes only 8.5 seconds. This year the engine was slightly derated (power was reduced to 249 horses) while maintaining the same torque. This was done to reduce the tax burden, which, to be honest, was too high even for Cadillac owners.

Another engine option for Russia is a 3.6-liter V-shaped petrol six. The engine produces as much as 318 horsepower at 6800 rpm. At 2400 rpm, a torque of 360 Nm is achieved. It is not surprising that with such data the crossover is very, very dynamic: it accelerates to hundreds in 8.1 seconds, despite the fact that the SRX weighs two and a half tons. Fuel consumption also naturally increased to 16.3 liters in the city, 8.8 liters on the highway and 11.5 liters in mixed mode.

The Cadillac SRX is equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission with an all-wheel drive system and the ability to manually shift. A sport mode is also possible. All-wheel drive, by the way, began to distribute torque differently and is now complemented by a self-locking differential.

The engineers did not change the suspension. There is still the same MacPherson strut at the front and a multi-link design at the rear. The suspension adapts to road conditions and is completely independent. All wheels are equipped with ventilated brake discs with drying and a fault warning system. The braking system is complemented by a variety of electronic assistants, such as ABS (4-channel, by the way), BAS, TRC, and electric parking brake. Cadillac is equipped with power steering with a variable force coefficient.

Safety in the new SRX is top notch. In addition to standard front airbags, we will find side airbags and side curtain airbags that also protect rear passengers. All seat belts are three-point, door locks are programmable.

Prices and configurations Cadillac SRX

There are 2 configuration options for the Cadillac SRX: Base and Top. The price of the basic configuration starts at 2,059,000 rubles. For this money you will get a crossover with a 249-horsepower engine, dual-zone climate control, a CUE system, Bose acoustics, all-wheel drive and independent suspension. The finishing, as already mentioned, is of only high quality, so there is no need to worry about comfort: although the equipment is basic, the crossover is premium.

But the top-end configuration is charged to the maximum. Both petrol engines are available to choose from. Many useful options have been added to the Base equipment, here are just a few of them: three-zone climate control, leather interior trim, keyless entry system, navigation in Russian, entertainment system for rear seat passengers and many others. The price of this configuration of the Cadillac SRX starts at 2,489,000 and 2,590,000 rubles for different types of engines.

Test drive cadillac srx(+video)

Despite its advanced age, Cadillac still looks quite fresh and stylish. It seems to be carved from a single piece of granite or metal: the silhouette of the crossover is athletic and muscular. Judge for yourself: even 20-inch wheels are buried in huge wheel arches.

The interior of the SRX is, of course, angular, but this angularity is even elegant and courageous in its own way. A new display has appeared on the dashboard, which can display up to three different indicators simultaneously. When driving actively, you can accidentally touch the function buttons, but this does not happen very often. The USB connectors, of which there are two, can also be used to charge smartphones, which is very, very convenient.

Cadillac User Experience (CUE) has a desktop similar to smartphones, where you can rearrange applications to suit your taste. The multimedia system, by the way, supports gesture control, so you can “swipe” a track from one to another, and you can enlarge the navigator map with two fingers. The sensor, however, is somewhat thoughtful, but the outdated processor is to blame for this. The center console has also become touch sensitive, from which climate control and seat ventilation can be adjusted.

There is enough space inside the Cadillac, you can arrange it in the way that is most convenient for you. The seats have good lateral support, which is very useful when cornering vigorously. The rear seats are also spacious, with plenty of room in front of your knees. Entertainment system monitors are mounted in the backs of the front seats and have their own climate control unit. Bose acoustics, by the way, in addition to its main task, also engages in active noise reduction, so that extraneous sounds in the cabin are almost inaudible.

The Cadillac's engine is quite powerful, but this power is somewhat “eaten up” by the not very efficient automatic transmission. Even in Sport mode, the box thinks for a long time before upshifting. But when the gear is upped, the car gains excellent acceleration, clearly not feeling a lack of power. The SRX's handling is also excellent. The independent suspension corners confidently and holds its trajectory perfectly, which is very strange for American cars that are prone to “rolling.” Road irregularities are smoothed out well, asphalt grain is not felt at all, but significant irregularities are still felt in the cabin, but this is not particularly annoying.

What happened in the end? GM presented us with a solid crossover with excellent suspension, a powerful engine and decent handling. If you get used to the slowdown sensors, then Cadillac will have no disadvantages at all, so we hope that in the future this drawback will be eliminated. Restylings, apparently, are only beneficial for the American car. The latest improvement, for example, brought many additional options and systems that not all classmates have. It’s also nice that on average the Cadillac SRX is about half a million cheaper than its competitors from the big German three.

Competitors

It just so happens that when choosing a Cadillac, buyers often compare it with another premium crossover - the Lexus RX 350. Although the cars are similar, they are designed to satisfy different needs, which we will talk about later. The appearance of the crossovers is clearly contrasted: the rectangular and hewn Cadillac against the rounded and smooth Lexus. Vertical headlight covers versus traditional horizontal lighting technology. It's a matter of taste, nothing can be done. But almost everyone admits that in profile the SRX looks fresher and more muscular than its competitor.

The Lexus salon literally breathes luxury and sophistication, it’s hard to even imagine who might be uncomfortable here. Here, even on the screen of the multimedia system, there are no fingerprints left, so from this alone you can get an impression of the quality of the crossover’s interior design. For Cadillac, things are again somewhat different. We've already talked about the overall refinement and interior space of the SRX, so you can imagine how it contrasts with the refinement of the Lexus. Cadillac also has plenty of comfort and convenience, and for long trips, the crossover from GM is no less convenient than a Lexus. However, the leather trim on the RX looks more expensive, and the driver's seat has fully electronic adjustment and a greater number of different settings. So, in Lexus, the front seats can be both cooled and heated.

Cadillac is generally cheaper than Lexus, which is undoubtedly a plus, but even with all the additional options, the SRX will not be more comfortable than the RX 350.

The Lexus engine is somewhat more powerful and has more torque, while being somewhat more economical and environmentally friendly than the power plants in the Cadillac. The Lexus drives faster and accelerates out of corners more actively, and the suspension doesn’t feel bumps as much. But going through a series of turns and generally driving along the highway is more interesting in a Cadillac. You will always stand out from the traffic, maintaining dynamics and passion.

Oddly enough, Lexus looks too perfect, so someone might like the drive of driving a Cadillac. The pleasant ratio of ride and handling dynamics hides shortcomings in appearance, and the SRX’s hardware, whatever you say, is simply magnificent.

The changes took place in 2006; in August, the Cadillac SRX went on sale with a completely changed interior - it became even more modern, made with high quality, and the wishes of European buyers were taken into account. The main changes were made to the panel at the front; the usual shape remained with it, but now it will look more solid. Changes were made to the center console and tunnel, controls, all air outlets and the dashboard; they received a new shape and markings. In general, the interior and lines acquired smooth and rounded outlines, but they also tried to choose more expensive and better quality materials for finishing.

By the end of 2007, the car, which has a V8 engine, was equipped with a six-speed gearbox; for the “sport” version, you can choose between 18 or 20 inch wheels.

The model is produced at the Lansing Grand River plant.

Design

The appearance of the crossover is not bad, there is a little aggression, which should please the young audience. In front there is a raised hood, large halogen optics with a lens. A chrome-plated radiator grille in the shape of a trapezoid is used here. The Cadillac SRX bumper received some aerodynamic elements, round fog lights with chrome trim and plastic protection.

The side part also turned out to be excellent; it has swollen and slightly beveled wheel arches, which house 18-piece wheels. If you wish, you can install 20th wheels for an additional fee. There is a gill that removes hot air from the brake system, and a stamping line runs from its upper and lower parts. The window has a chrome trim, and there are non-decorative roof rails on the roof.

At the rear, high headlights with partially LED filling are also used. The trunk lid is massive, has some relief, and in its upper part there is a spoiler on which the brake light repeater is duplicated. The rear bumper is very simple, it has a plastic protection and two exhaust pipes underneath.

Body dimensions:

  • length – 4834 mm;
  • width – 1910 mm;
  • height – 1669 mm;
  • wheelbase – 2807 mm.

Cadillac SRX interior

Inside you will be pleased with the good quality of materials and the assembly itself. Also, a large amount of free space should be no less pleasing. The interior is upholstered in leather, the front row of seats has comfortable electrically adjustable seats. The rear can accommodate 3 passengers and, in principle, there is also enough space there and there should be no complaints about discomfort.

The driver will get a comfortable 3-spoke steering wheel with leather trim and aluminum inserts. Also on the steering wheel there are a large number of buttons for controlling multimedia and cruise control. The instrument panel also looks chic, it uses large analog gauges with beautiful backlighting, and in the middle there is a large on-board computer, which displays a lot of useful information.

The center console has a large touchscreen display for the multimedia and navigation system. Below there are a number of buttons to control all this. This panel can open, and behind it there will be a niche for small items. Just below there is a slot for disks and another opening niche for small items. The tunnel has a Cadillac SRX gear selector, an electronic parking brake button, and cup holders.

Families will definitely be pleased with the space in the trunk, since its volume is 827 liters, and if you fold the back row, you can get 1730 liters. Folding the rear seats is necessary for transporting really large loads.

Specifications

There are only two engines in the line of this car, the first is a naturally aspirated petrol V6, which produces 249 horsepower with a volume of 3 liters. With this power, the car accelerates to hundreds in 8.5 seconds, and its top speed is 200 km/h.

The second unit is essentially exactly the same, but its volume is larger, by 0.6 liters, which allowed it to achieve 318 horsepower. For some reason the dynamics haven't changed at all. This engine consumes a lot; if you drive quietly in the city, you will use 23 liters of 95-grade gasoline; on the highway this figure drops to 16 liters.

Both engines are paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The first version of the engine has front-wheel drive, and the car with the second unit will be equipped with all-wheel drive.

The suspension is adjustable. The control system is very fast, it converts 1000 signals per second about the condition of the road. This system improves the handling of the Cadillac SRX. This is the first car to feature adjustable suspension.

Price

The crossover is offered in only 2 trim levels, the cost of the Base version is 2,150,000 rubles and this is what it will delight its owner with:

  • leather trim;
  • electrically adjustable seats;
  • climate control;
  • Cruise control;
  • tire pressure sensor;
  • Bose audio system;
  • starting the engine from a button;
  • light sensor.

The Top CPX package is more expensive in accordance with, namely 2,900,000 rubles and it will be replenished with the following:

  • adjustment memory;
  • heated front and rear rows;
  • front seat ventilation;
  • blind spot monitoring;
  • lane control;
  • hill start assistance;
  • collision avoidance system;
  • Rear View Camera;
  • navigation;
  • voice control system;
  • Rain sensor;
  • keyless access;
  • electric trunk drive.

This is a car with bright charisma, it is reliable and unpretentious, moderately exclusive. Externally, the car is original, the attention paid to it is immediately noticeable.

Reviews from Cadillac SRX I owners

Cadillac SRX I, 2005

Regarding management. On the road, the Cadillac SRX I behaves confidently, and the controls are clear. The steering wheel is moderately sharp (this is rather a plus - it does not try to escape from your hands on uneven surfaces), with sluggish feedback, but sufficient for comfortable control (it relaxes the road). The suspension is soft, absorbs small bumps without much difficulty, but more serious impacts are clearly absorbed. There is not much roll in corners, the suspension works clearly and stops them during the turn. You can forcibly disable the stability control system with a button located near the automatic transmission. In terms of dynamics, there are no complaints. Acceleration of 6.9 and a maximum of 240 km per hour - in principle, speak for themselves. Competitors that are comparable in dynamics to Cadillac are much more expensive. The appearance of the Cadillac SRX I is unusual, not familiar. With enviable regularity, he arouses the interest of others. Transmission: automatic transmission (5 steps) with manual shift option. The gearbox works without much lag, the shifts are soft - without jerking. Regarding the interior: a lot of plastic. Much has already been said about this, and this fact is somewhat depressing, but I found a way out - I purchased a set of wood-look inserts from the dealer - they fit perfectly and this flaw disappears (the interior is significantly transformed). The noise insulation is very decent, there is silence in the cabin even at speeds well over 150. Music - BOSE (if not a music lover, then quite decent). Audio system controls are located on the steering wheel. Regarding the equipment: the car is very well equipped, especially since, unlike its European colleagues, it is “complete stuffing”. There is everything.

Advantages : excellent dynamics. Decent handling. Decent smoothness. Sufficient cross-country ability for light off-road use. Expressive appearance. Good sound insulation.

Flaws : fuel consumption. Lots of plastic in the cabin.

Cadillac SRX I, 2008

The 3.6 engine accelerates the Cadillac SRX I very quickly, smoothly and imperceptibly, the speed is not felt at all, even though I’m not a racer, but it’s not possible to drive the SRX 100-120 at all, it always turns out to be 130-160, or even more. That's why I often glance at the speedometer. There is also the SRX with a 4.6 engine and 325 hp, which is probably an airplane. Fuel consumption is quite acceptable, in the combined cycle it is approximately 14-16 liters, on the highway no more than 11. The tank is 75 liters. My father went on a long-haul trip to Bulgaria and lowered the consumption to a maximum of 9.5 liters on the highway on a cruise. Compared to the Tahoe, the Cadillac SRX I is quite picky about the quality of gasoline; after a bad refueling, it can light up the Jackie Chan lamp and begin to stall. It can be treated either by normal refueling or by removing the terminal from the battery (the latter is extremely rare), dealers say that this is a disease of all SRXs. The salon is very original, beautiful and well made. The plastic on the lower parts of the panel and doors, if worse (which I doubt) than that of the vaunted “Germans,” is not at all by much. The panel is covered with leather, inserts are both wood and aluminum, and the wood inserts are very beautiful. Electrical adjustment of everything that is possible and impossible, only the steering wheel, in my opinion, is not adjustable. The automatic transmission shifts gears smoothly and imperceptibly, there is a sport mode and manual shifting. Standard navigation, TV, DVD work perfectly, the only pity is that while driving the TV and DVD are not shown, only sound is heard. The huge panoramic sunroof that covers almost the entire roof deserves special attention. I always only open the curtain when I’m driving somewhere, it feels like you’re driving in a convertible, only there’s silence in the cabin. By the way, the sound insulation is excellent. The hatch itself sometimes jams when opening, you need to either open it more often to work it out, or take it apart and see what’s wrong!

Advantages : appearance. Salon. Reliability. Charisma.

Flaws : demanding on fuel quality.

Cadillac SRX I, 2009

Features of the car: the character of an American car (it’s really a pity that there are no more of these left - after that I drove the SRX II - also excellent, but much more Europeanized). There is spaciousness in the cabin - plenty of room in the shoulders, above your head, and in the back seat. The dynamics of the Cadillac SRX I are really excellent, the car accelerates from almost any speed and also brakes excellently. Interior: very good equipment, for the money that these cars cost now, I’m not afraid to say, the best. Good leather, 2 hatches (one of them is huge, panoramic), climate control system deflectors for all 3 rows, everything possible is electrified (seats, pedal unit, steering wheel, back door, hatches), TV. The ground clearance is more than 200 mm and the all-wheel drive system is quite good for a crossover (SRX I is more off-road than SRX II, I drove both). Noise insulation - at 120-150 km, which is comfortable for our highways, you can talk quietly in the cabin. It's really very comfortable to drive on the highways (you can feel the American origin). Headlights shine at night - visibility is excellent. A number of facts: AI-92 consumption: highway - 14-15 liters, city 17-21 liters, both with climate control turned on. When pouring AI-95, the consumption does not change. The suspension is twofold: it copes well with small irregularities and waves, plus the car stands perfectly on a straight line, but it encounters potholes and potholes harshly; on very bad roads you get tired of periodic shaking. The handling is American: the steering wheel is somewhat empty, the steering is not bad, but reluctant. The center of gravity is low for a crossover, so speed is well tolerated and there are no drifts when cornering or in open areas. The large wheelbase and, as a result, the turning radius are the other side of the coin for the spacious rear row.

Advantages : dynamics. Quality finish. Price.

Flaws : the suspension handles roughness harshly.

Cadillac SRX I, 2004

I bought a Cadillac SRX I from 2004, assembled in the USA, with a mileage of 150 thousand km in 2011. If this word can be applied to Cadillac, then it is a budget option, i.e. 3.6 liters, with simple shock absorbers, without the Magnetic system. I drove a dark blue “crocodile” for 3 years and drove 153 thousand km. Comfortable and roomy. Adjustable pedal assembly, seat memory, rear row TV. It would be nice to have armrests on the front seats as standard. The rear seats fold into a flat floor, we had to spend the night together, it doesn’t deserve five stars, but you can rest peacefully. The trunk has a false floor with three niches, very convenient and practical. The most problematic place is the hubs. My original went 80 thousand km, China 27 thousand. The suspension is 2-link. Ball and silent blocks only together with a lever (aluminum), when purchasing, look carefully, levers are sold only assembled (or “collective farm”). In my case, I changed the two front lower ones for 12 rubles. The drive is permanent all-wheel drive. Chain transfer case. There are no inter-axle or inter-wheel locks. There is a switchable vehicle. In the fields, after a heavy downpour, I put chains on the rear wheels and turned off the vehicle so as not to burn the pads. It goes without problems. Set the protection - the generator is low. There were no problems with the engine either during purchase or during operation. I only changed three ignition coils for 1.5 rubles each, the attachment belt, its pulley and the return valve. It is inconvenient to change spark plugs - you need to remove the top part of the engine. The second time it takes 40 minutes for everything. If you sell the SRX you will lose a fair amount of value.

Advantages : rare. Appearance. Spacious. Comfortable.

Flaws : hubs. Tax. Consumption.

Cadillac SRX I, 2007

So, the 2007 Cadillac SRX I. The equipment is not poor. Just think, windows can be closed and opened by pressing keys on the door cards (Logan owners are now tense). “Bibikalka” in the center of the steering wheel, hello to the owners of “Largus”, and you won’t believe me now, but the steering wheel is height adjustable. And not like most cars - for show, but in such a way that in the lower position it almost touches the seat, and in the upper position it is like a real bus. Cadillac, like BMW, is a car that can be psychologically addictive. He is too “different”, he does everything in his own way, for him there are no “stupid” standards that other car manufacturers seem to be convenient solutions. Cadillac SRX I inherits a beautiful racing chassis, and gives an indescribable driving experience. You always know when you will be blown away, where you will be blown away, what needs to be done to prevent you from being blown away, and why you are not going to do it. You can drive the Cadillac SRX I sideways on dry asphalt without turning over. Driving control is quite predictable. True, it is quite difficult to put it into a skid. Engine 258 hp beautiful, although almost immediately I wanted even more. The ground clearance is at the level, there is practically nothing to cling to with the bottom. The factory protection is set so that the SRX floats through deep snow like a ship. When driving around the city, the SRX resembles a UAZ Patriot. Both are essentially trucks. In both cases, the most terrible brutality is felt when you press the accelerator and turn the steering wheel. Frame shake makes you feel like you're driving a heavy vehicle rather than modern technology. But there is a key difference. With the same bouquet of the brightest sensations from “real” driving, the Cadillac SRX I amazingly obeys the driver, but the UAZ does not. Consumption: from 13.5 with fine pedaling, to 27 when there is snowfall and the city is stuck in kilometer-long traffic jams. Something average is 16-17 liters. When you allow yourself to be “spurred” in moderation.

Advantages : controllability. Capacity. Engine.

Flaws : no special ones.

Cadillac SRX I, 2010

I was looking for a Cadillac SRX I purposefully, and only with a 4.6 liter engine. They are not available on the market in “no investment” condition, so I took them with problems with the suspension. Charcoal black on light leather with a sports package, panorama, but without the 3rd row of seats. I bought it for 600 thousand, I knew that I would invest about another 150. In the end I invested 180 in the technical component (replacing liquids all around, replacing shock absorbers all around - an analogue without air and MRC, replacing xenon lamps, replacing all silent blocks in the front suspension, replacing engine mounts - not planned). Next up is dry cleaning, polishing, I want a different exhaust. Now how does the car feel? The Cadillac SRX I drives very well. On the track he is absolutely gorgeous. 4.6 allows you to overtake at any speed. So you don’t have to trail behind the trucks in caravans. In the city it is not so good due to its length, but again dynamics make a difference. Exterior - taste and color. I really like the choppy design of Cadillacs. The interior is a 4, again subjective. Of course, all the switches look a little old, but for me it’s absolutely uncritical. A friend has a Discovery 4 - there is less legroom on the second row of seats than in the Cadilla. The trunk is huge. In general, there is a lot of space in the car, the interior is very spacious, which is very important for me. Disadvantages - the Traction Control works indistinctly, it’s easy to throw the car into a skid, although I tried it only at low speeds, maybe it’s more adequate at high speeds, I don’t know. I'm not going to try. The overhead rear wiper control next to the sunroof control is inconvenient. The rear window rolls up very quickly, and you often have to take your eyes off the road. Expense and tax. But I knew what I was getting into. Looking at my friends’ expenses on Discovery 4 and A4 allroad, I see that my total cost of ownership will be lower or comparable. But at the same time, the reliability of the Cadillac SRX I is head and shoulders above. There is nothing special to break there, unlike the Germans and the British.

Advantages : salon. Dynamics. Ride quality.

Flaws : traction control. Consumption. Tax.

Cadillac SRX I, 2007

I bought a Cadillac SRX I with 75 thousand miles (they probably did at least 50 thousand). I have driven 80 thousand more on it. The costs are as follows: hubs are consumables. I changed them more often than the brake pads. They run 20 thousand km. Price with replacement from 15,000 to 30,000 per piece (depending on the manufacturer). Fuel consumption. I don’t know what they say in the manuals or on the on-board computer, but at least 20 liters/100 km. This is a mixed cycle. Diagnostics showed that the catalysts are on the way, but I don’t have an extra 60 thousand. Cutting out the rolls and installing decoys is approximately 15,000, and it is not a fact that the consumption will drop - they write differently. In practice, I poured 500 rubles. a day if you didn’t go anywhere, and 1000-1500 if you had to go somewhere. In the last year, I changed cars with my wife; she has fewer trips. Timing belt - misfires appeared, started to misfire, all the checks came on. The timing was sentenced. They are not taken everywhere. As a result, the service (not the officials) gave 85 thousand materials with work. Brakes. From simply no. It feels like they installed Oka brakes for such a car. Very flimsy, long braking distance. During the entire period of ownership, the following problems were also covered: heated steering wheel, 5th door drive, tire pressure sensor twice (cruise control disappeared), rear wiper, front doors sagged. In the last year of ownership, the automatic transmission began to knock heavily, especially when cold. Repair prices are astronomical. I didn’t decide - I sold it as a trade-in. The characteristic problems with rear LED lights did not affect me, but I think it’s a matter of time (and they are expensive). I didn’t like the blind (dead) spot on the left, covered by the driver’s rear view mirror. At pedestrian crossings you constantly look behind him. It's very easy to miss your child. According to my calculations, during my ownership I invested more than 300 thousand rubles in the Cadillac SRX I. And this does not include fuel consumption and vehicle tax.

Advantages : four-wheel drive. Comfort. Standard audio system.

Flaws : cost of service. Fuel consumption. Brakes. Unliquid upon sale.
