Fiat typical technical specifications. Fiat Tipo sedan: we need this Fiat! Dimensions of Fiat Tipo

Tell me why there is no internal handle for closing the trunk?

Why does she need it? Still, people often grab the lid from above.

Italians in their repertoire. Saving a penny more than once turned into problems for them not only in Europe, but also in the Russian market. Remember, about fifteen years ago, at the time of the next arrival of passenger Fiats, we had a “popular wave” under the motto “We don’t need such a Fiat”?.. But as I got to know Tipo, it became clear to me that there were no other serious punctures there is practically no car.

The Tipo is built on a crossover platform, but using a simpler rear suspension from the model - because there is no all-wheel drive version and there will not be one. Tipo was designed in the Italian Style Center of the FCA concern (Fiat Chrysler Automotive), and in three versions at once - sedan (length 4540 mm), hatchback (4470 mm) and station wagon (4540 mm).

We've seen more elegant Fiats, but some solutions deserve attention - for example, elegant taillights.

There are four engines - two petrol (95 and 110 hp) and two turbodiesel (95 and 120 hp). In addition to the manual transmission, there is an automatic transmission and even a robot with two clutches.

First, the sedan appeared as - and under this name is already sold in Turkey. And for the vast majority of other markets (there are about forty of them), the good old name Tipo was chosen. The newcomer is to some extent the heir to the model - but that one is more modest and cheaper, there is still good demand for it (at least in Turkey), so for some time it will be produced in parallel with the Tipo.

I've driven the Tipo twice. First, I drove a pre-production car in the vicinity of the plant in Bursa (Turkey), where cars will be produced for all European markets. I vomited about twenty kilometers along a straight road in a convoy of several cars. I only managed to understand that even the pre-production Tipo was made to last - not a single panel creaked or fell off. I also liked the seats (soft, but with a good profile) and the multimedia system with a convenient touchscreen, unified with other FCA cars. Other advantages are a huge trunk (520 l) and a spacious rear seat: “I sit behind myself” with a little room in my knees, and my height is 186 cm.

The second meeting was in Belgrade, where I managed not only to drive on public roads, but also to cut several laps along a small ring road.

Even when shod with 17‑inch tires, the Tipo does not shake its soul on bumps: the suspension is what you need! But I expected more from the 120-horsepower 1.6 turbodiesel: it’s noisy at high speeds and not too cheerful at low speeds. The situation is partly saved by the manual transmission, which clicks no worse than on French and Korean cars of this class.

And on the ring Tipo revealed itself in all its glory! Rain, temperatures around zero, average winter tires - and I can safely turn off the stabilization system and do whatever I want with the car. A slight understeer that goes into neutral is safe and exciting at the same time. It's a pity, the engine is still the same - a gloomy diesel. This would include a 110-horsepower gasoline, which is lighter and more vigorous, and it would be very good. The Italians have not yet forgotten how to tune the chassis!

A nice appearance, high-quality materials, high-quality assembly, interesting options (even voice control of the audio system), a spacious trunk - the Tipo is on the same level as the Kia Rio. Why are you laughing? It was 15-20 years ago that few people took Korean cars seriously, but now the power has changed - at least on the Russian market.

I pestered the Italians with one question: when? After all, such a Fiat would look good on our customers.

We are ready to supply Tipo to Russia, but it all depends on the market, competition, pricing...

Interesting movie: Tipo will be supplied to Serbia with its tiny market, but not to us yet. What is the reason? Sanctions? Is Turkish production putting a spoke in the wheels?

The price is everything. The Italians proudly revealed that the basic Tipo will cost 10,500 euros in most markets - this does not take into account internal taxes, which vary greatly from country to country. European journalists beamed: a lucrative offer! But 10,500 euros is 800 thousand rubles! And more taxes? No, without localization there is nothing to think about the Russian market - that’s what I told the Italians. They went to think.

FIAT TIPO - WINNER OF THE AUTOBEST COMPETITION

Initially, AutoBest is an Eastern European competition, and I represent Russia in it. We recently announced a major expansion: starting in the fall of 2015, the jury includes automotive journalists from 26 countries. Almost all of Europe is represented - with the exception of Germany, Belarus and the Baltic countries. Every year we select the best cars among relatively affordable ones - no more than 20,000 euros (excluding taxes).

For 7 years, the Italian brand has produced the 2020 Fiat Tipo in hatchback, coupe, and station wagon body styles. At that time, this line of cars was very popular, surpassing the Volkswagen Golf in sales. For example, the Fiat Tipo from 1989 and other years has become the most popular in Brazil. The spacious interior and compactness of the car captivated many car enthusiasts.

Production of a new model has begun, which vaguely resembles its predecessor. In May 2018, the presentation of the 2021 Fiat Tipo took place in Istanbul. There is already information about the start of sales in Russia. The start of sales is scheduled for mid-2020. The main buyers are the European market and Türkiye.

External model data

Compared to its predecessor, the Fiat Tipo 2020 and earlier, of course, the car has undergone a restyling. But there were traits that kept him in high positions. At that time there was also a similar analogue of the Fiat Tipo - this is the Fiat Tempra, which was identical to it. These models combined spaciousness, compactness, maintenance and comfort. The new body completely replicates these qualities. Externally, the car looks very stylish and neat.

Black restyling wheels
station wagon wheels

A straight line along the side doors emphasizes its interior content, special elegance, narrow headlights fit harmoniously into the overall picture. The whole car seems to be slightly elongated due to the shape of the headlights and some details. Compared to 2021, the new product has acquired a new radiator grille, which has become much wider and more massive. Body colors are still unknown, but everyone will be able to make tuning for themselves.

The design of the new product is very laconic, dominated by smooth lines. The body cover blends harmoniously into the roof, does not stand out from the general appearance, and is quite compact. The new product has the following dimensions:

  • length of sedan, hatchback, station wagon: 4540 mm, 4370 mm, 4570 mm;
  • width: 1790 mm;
  • height: 1490 mm;
  • ground clearance (ground clearance) – 150 mm;
  • trunk volume – 520 liters;
  • wheels – available in 16, 17 diameters.

Interior functions

Manufacturers tried to make the interior as laconic as possible but at the same time functional. This is proven by the fact that absolutely everything is within easy reach for the driver. Sitting behind the wheel of a Fiat Tipo is comfortable and pleasant; in the rear seats, all passengers will feel as comfortable as possible. All materials are of very high quality, the upholstery is also pleasing. Thanks to the spacious trunk, the car can fit any number of things; if necessary, you can fold the rear seats to increase the volume.
The Fiat Tipo's interior looks quite equipped in the photo; gray and silver shades predominate, which emphasize the laconic design of the car. Inside the cabin there are all the necessary accessories for comfortable control: electric windows, electrically adjustable rear-view mirrors, 6 airbags, a 5-inch touch screen, audio system, light and rain sensors, climate control, parking sensors, cruise control, high-quality navigation system. Some configurations include a tow bar and speech recognition function.

Specifications

The technical characteristics of the Fiat Tipo 2020 2021 are not very different from each other. The model has the following indicators:

  • diesel/gasoline: there are options with diesel engines (1.3 liters, 1.6 liters), also gasoline (1.4 liters, 1.6 liters);
  • transmission: automatic, manual, six-speed;
  • fuel consumption per 100 km. – 4.1 l. (petrol); 3.7 l. (diesel);
  • tank volume – 48 l.;
  • engine power – from 95 to 120 horsepower.

Judging by the characteristics of the filling, the model is very powerful. It is perfect for city driving, even in basic, inexpensive trim levels. If you buy the minimum configuration of the Fiat Tipo, the car will be equipped with good engine power, as well as economical fuel consumption. On the technical side, the car is suitable as a family or work car.

Official dealers

The table shows official dealers where to buy and how much Fiat cars cost. Unfortunately, the Fiat Tipo 2020 is not publicly available in Russia. From these car dealerships you can buy original accessories and spare parts for owners of Fiat Tipo and other models. Through them, you can try to contact gray dealers who can help with the selection of a new Fiat Tipo 2020 2021. At the moment, the model can be purchased by order.

Car prices

This car is in great demand not only because of its good technical data and appearance. Of course, cost plays a big role. Fiat Tipo is a budget car, so many people prefer it due to its affordability. Its cost varies from $14,000 to $20,000 depending on the configuration.

The price in Russia is unknown, since the model is not presented on the Russian market. For those who want to purchase a Fiat Tipo 2020 imported, the price in Ukraine will be 370,900 UAH. – 413,900 UAH. (RUB 910,063 – RUB 1,015,571).

Competition in the market

Since this model is quite unique and does not quite meet the standard characteristics of other brands, it has few competitors that could compete for identity. But there are still a couple of representatives that can become an additional option for choosing a car in this price category. These are Opel Astra and Hyundai Tucson. To clearly see the similarities and differences, let’s compare them.

Characteristic Opel Astra Hyundai Tucson
Length height width 4419 mm. – 1510 mm. – 1814 mm. 4475 mm. – 1650 mm. - 1850 mm.
Diesel/petrol Petrol Gasoline, diesel
Transmission Automatic, 6 gears, manual, five-speed Mechanics, automatic, six-speed
Fuel consumption per 100 km. 8.9 liters 8.6 liters
Engine power 140 horsepower 132 horsepower
Price RUB 909,900 RUB 1,505,900

Comparing competitors with the 2020 Fiat Tipo, you can see that the price in Russia and fuel consumption are slightly different (Fiat turned out to be the most economical), but Opel came out the most powerful from the comparison. The dimensions also do not differ very much, only the Hyundai will be more massive and taller, since it is a crossover.

And the history of Fiat in post-Soviet Russia is full of sadness. At first there was an era of private imports, and the specimens brought from Italy quickly rotted and were quite badly damaged. Here the company needs to “thank” the very mediocre roads and the warm climate of its native Italy (and therefore savings on anticorrosion), as well as local drivers who drive poorly and maintain their cars about as “responsibly” as the Russians.

So used Fiats outright lost to used Volkswagens from respectable Germany and Toyotas from no less restrained Japan. And there is no demand, which means there are no suppliers of spare parts and craftsmen. And then in a vicious circle.

It was not easy for Fiat to start official sales with such a background. Yes, he didn’t really try. In the 2000s, the Italians brought the ugly Fiat Albea, which, for some reason unknown to anyone, cost more and, moreover, was not much better than Logan, and therefore was doomed.

Then a nice fat Fiat Linea appeared, which seemed to be assembled in Russia, but the price was still “charged” inconsistent with expectations. Nowadays, the passenger model range has narrowed to the image Fiat 500 at a price of 1 million rubles and the remains of the Fiat Punto of the outgoing generation. The picture is bleak. Taking into account the crisis, the likelihood of the appearance, and even more so of successful sales in Russia, of the new Fiat Tipo is low.

But we at the site’s editorial office are both optimistic and extremely curious, and therefore we still found and tested Tipo, fortunately it is sold in neighboring Ukraine. The local model range is generally much richer due to relatively low duties and low cost of certification - there are no “recycling fees”, no mandatory or other bureaucratic protectionist measures.

Like competitors

Before getting into descriptions and tastes, a few dry numbers to understand what kind of car this is. If we compare the Tipo, say, with the Skoda Octavia, Volkswagen Jetta, Toyota Corolla, Citroen C4 and Mazda 3, then the “Italian” will be consistently shorter by about 5-10 centimeters with its 4,532 mm length.

True, it is difficult to classify the Fiat Tipo as class B+ - if we evaluate the dimensions of our people’s favorite Renault Logan, Skoda Rapid, VW Polo sedan, Kia Rio and Hyundai Solaris, we will see that they all do not go beyond 4,400 mm. Which is significantly less than Tipo.

The price of a Turkish-assembled sedan makes the heart beat faster - in Europe it is quite attractive. The basic version of the sedan with a manual transmission and a 1.4-liter naturally aspirated engine producing 95 hp. With. costs from 14,250 euros, while, say, an Octavia 1.2 TSI with 85 hp. With. – from 17,190.

The start of sales of the Fiat Tipo in its homeland initially seemed explosive - in August 2016, the car rose sharply to third place in the ranking of the most popular cars in Italy, leaving ahead only the eternal bestsellers Fiat Panda and Lancia Ypsilon. But by September, the new product had sharply lost as many as 10 positions, falling back to 13th place, where it remained in October. Now about 2,700 cars are sold per month.

One could say “ugh, failure” if you didn’t know that in Italy, although they are very patriotic in terms of automotive tastes, they generally don’t buy large C-class cars, preferring B or A. On the roads, according to the testimony of local residents and tourists , Tipo is already seen regularly, both in Rome and in the outback, and has even been purchased by the police (does this explain the explosion in sales in August?).

So, a relatively compact and inexpensive C-class, which has not yet become either a bestseller or an outsider. Our version is with a 1.6 110 liter engine. With. and a 6-speed hydromechanical automatic transmission. Let's try it in action.

Outside

Do you know why the Fiat Tipo sedan looks so harmonious? Because it was originally conceived as a three-volume car, and only then it was made into a hatch and a station wagon. Which is quite logical, because the car was made not only for the domestic European market, but also for developing countries.

Fortunately, the appearance does not have any harmful touch of budget - no small wheels, no absurdly docked trunk, no puffiness for the sake of internal volume. The design of the front part is reminiscent of Mazda's KODO style, but the perception is radically changed by the chic radiator grille, trimmed with chrome and glossy plastic.

In profile, the sedan is not so individual, but pleasant. The low, squat contour of the silhouette is formed, among other things, by the ground clearance of 150 mm. For our realities, this may not be enough, plus the painted “lip” of the front bumper causes some concern. The other side of this coin is the impressively low drag coefficient Cx of 0.29.

And you can even fall in love with the Fiat. Its C-shaped sculpted taillights look even better in person than in photos! And the seemingly short and small trunk is generally an optical illusion; there are 520 liters of space inside! The cover, which extends deep into the bumper, ensures a low loading height, although it's a shame that this low cutout is limited in width.

Inside

Korean and domestic state employees (let's not point fingers), which look very good on the outside, are a little disappointing on the inside with their simple finishing, hard plastic and ignoble chemical smell. This is not all about the Fiat Tipo! The dashboard is half made of a material that is soft to the touch, the joints are all smooth, there are no creaks or “breathing” of elements when pressed. Yes, the “aluminum” insert is actually painted plastic, and most of the elements are still rigid, but there is a general feeling of quality workmanship.

The steering wheel has a rather slippery but soft leather (most likely “eco-leather”) trim, is thick and has a pleasant grip. Music control is on the back, according to Italian tradition. The Maserati Levante has done the same thing - maybe it will warm the owners’ pride.

The head unit cannot boast of a wide range of functionality. In its arsenal there is only a modest black and white screen, the ability to connect a phone via Bluetooth, and play media files from media connected via AUX and USB. A color screen is the prerogative of the top-end configuration.

Armchairs with good lateral support are decorated with a combination of leather and fabric with a pleasant texture. During maneuvers, it was pleasant to feel that the side bolsters were not a tribute to fashion, and not maintaining the sporty image of the “Italians,” but a truly effective tool for comfort. There is enough space for three adults in the second row, although tall passengers wearing winter jackets will feel some tightness in their shoulders.

Travel is cheap

There are quite a lot of engines in the European range of Tipo engines: there are low-volume turbodiesels 1.2 (95 hp) and 1.6 (120 hp), and an interesting bi-fuel turbo engine 1.4 (120 hp) with factory gas equipment. But we, as mentioned above, have an “eternal classic”: in-line “four” E.torQ 1.6 liters, 110 hp. s., 152 Nm, developed in the early 2010s in Brazil and previously found on the Punto.

The engine, by the way, although a simple design by modern standards, is quite economical - if you calmly roll along the highway without air conditioning, you can keep within 6 liters per 100 km. Perhaps the outstanding aerodynamics help here.

It’s impossible to be quick with such a combination of engine and gearbox - the electronics protect the bowels of the Aisin AW60T “automatic”, prevent it from roaring spectacularly at the start, limiting traction, and sets an imposing driving pace. Perhaps, for an active drive, you need a “mechanics”, or even better, a turbocharged 1.4 T-Jet in combination with a preselective “robot”...

The Tipo suspension is well known from other models of the brand. The front MacPherson beam was borrowed from the 500X crossover, and the rear beam was borrowed from the 500L microvan. In motion, the car is more like the same “X” - the same knocked down and elastic, and maybe just a little softer. Its rigidity is noticeable only at asphalt joints and on paving stones and manifests itself more acoustically than through vibrations on the controls. Perhaps it would not hurt the engineers to work on the sound insulation of the wheel arches.

Moreover, everything is in order with the “noise” of the engine shield - the engine is almost inaudible in the cabin even at suburban speeds - this is pleasant. The elasticity of the car has a positive effect on handling; the sedan does not try to go into a large roll even in a fast 90-degree turn.

Prospects?

In Russia they are quite vague. In good circumstances, the Fiat Tipo could cost us “somewhere between Rapid and Octavia,” that is, from 750 thousand to 1 million rubles, which is not so bad. But for this you need to localize production, invest a lot of money, do a large-scale advertising campaign in order to change the not very favorable image of Fiat...

It is not a fact that FCA will make such investments now, given the stable demand in the commercial segment and good prospects in other emerging markets. But if I turn out to be right, I will be sincerely sorry that in Russia they will never know what a good Italian car is.

Would you buy a Fiat Tipo if it went on sale in Russia?

The Fiat Tipo five-door golf-class hatchback was introduced in 1988. The car was designed on a new platform, which was later used for other models of the Italian concern (for example,). In 1989, the Tipo won the Car of the Year competition.

The car was equipped with gasoline engines of 1.1, 1.4, 1.6, 1.7, 1.8 and 2.0 liters, developing from 56 to 148 hp. s., as well as diesel engines of 1.7 and 1.9 (58–92 hp)

The car was in very good demand in many European countries, where its competitors were models such as,. In 1990, "Tipo" began to be sold in the USSR.

In 1993, the Italians restyled the car, and at the same time a three-door version appeared in the lineup. In Italy, production of the Fiat Tipo ended in 1995, and this model was replaced by /.

In 1995, hatchback production began in Brazil, and the Tipo soon became the best-selling car in the local market. The car was also made at the Tofas plant in Turkey - here it remained on the assembly line until 2000.

2nd generation, 2015

The Fiat Tipo golf-class sedan has been produced since 2015 in Turkey, at the Tofas plant in Bursa; the hatchback and station wagon entered production in 2016. In the Turkish market this model is called . Since 2016, the car has been supplied to Mexico as .

The Tipo is equipped with naturally aspirated gasoline engines 1.4 (95 hp) and 1.6 (110 hp), as well as a 1.4-liter turbo engine with a capacity of 120 hp. The range of diesel engines consists of MultiJet II series power units with a volume of 1.3 and 1.6 liters (95 and 120 hp, respectively). In some markets, versions with gas-powered engines are offered. Gearboxes - manual, automatic or robotic with two clutches.

The new Italian sedan Fiat Tipo 2016-2017 model year is ready to enter the European market. The model of the new compact four-door sedan Fiat Tipo is also known as, but... in its native Italy and the rest of Europe, a new product from Fiat S.p.A. can be purchased with the familiar name Tipo (from 1988 to 1995, 3- and 5-door Fiat Tipo hatchbacks were produced). The new Italian sedan is offered in Europe, Africa and the Middle East with diesel and gasoline engines with a capacity of 95-120 horsepower. Price Fiat Tipo in basic configuration(pictured - top-end trim) starts at 12,000 euros (13,645 US dollars).

The Fiat Aegea Sedan and Fiat Tipo Sedan are twin brothers, and, perhaps, there is no point in describing once again the appearance and interior of the new product (photo in the gallery), it is better to focus on the contents of the new car’s equipment and full technical characteristics.

  • The external overall dimensions of the Fiat Tipo Sedan 2016-2017 body are 4540 mm in length, 1790 mm in width, 1490 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2640 mm and a ground clearance of 150 mm.
  • The frontal aerodynamic drag coefficient of the body is 0.29 Cx, the sedan's turning circle is 11 meters, and the trunk volume is 520 liters.

Specifications The new Italian sedan Fiat Tipo has a front-wheel drive Small Platform with front independent suspension (McPherson struts) and rear semi-independent suspension (torsion beam), electric power steering, front disc brakes with 284 mm discs and rear drum brakes (sedan version with 120 - a powerful diesel engine is equipped with rear disc brakes, disc diameter - 251 mm).
Under the hood of the new European Fiat Tipo sedan 2016-2017 model year, there are a choice of two diesel and a pair of four-cylinder gasoline engines (all engines comply with CO2 emission standards in Euro6).
Petrol versions of the Fiat Tipo sedan:

  • 1.4-liter Fire (95 hp 127 Nm) with 5 manual transmission.
  • 1.6-liter E.torQ (110 hp 152 Nm) with 6 automatic transmissions.

Diesel versions of the Fiat Tipo sedan:

  • 1.3-liter Multijet II diesel (95 hp 200 Nm) with 5 manual transmission.
  • 1.6-liter Multijet II (120 hp 320 Nm) with 6 manual transmission.

The new Fiat Tipo Sedan is offered to customers in several trim levels.

The basic equipment of the new compact budget Italian sedan includes 15-inch steel wheels, a Uconnect audio system with a 3.5-inch LCD screen (MP3, USB, AUX), electric power steering, air conditioning, central locking, power windows on the front doors, exterior rear view mirrors with electric adjustment and heating, 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC with Hill Holder and tire pressure monitoring sensors.
A more saturated package will add 16-inch wheels, chrome trim on body parts, a Uconnect multimedia system with a 5-inch color touch screen (radio, Bluetooth, MP3, USB, AUX), a dashboard with a 3.5-inch on-board computer screen, multifunction steering wheel, electric windows on the second row doors, rain and light sensors.
Options include climate control, cruise control, parking sensors and a rear view camera, fog lights, R16 and R17 alloy wheels, and the latest generation TomTom 3D navigation system.
It is not yet clear whether the new Italian Fiat Tipo sedan will appear in Russia. Russians love compact sedans and there are a lot of examples of this - ... a lot of new products from China and, of course, the new one. So even if the Tipo sedan makes it to the domestic market, it will be difficult for the Italian new product, especially considering the weak position of Fiat S.p.A. on the Russian market.
