How to change the oil in an automatic transmission opel vectra. The process of changing the oil in the manual transmission and automatic transmission opel vectra b Opel vectra with a filler plug in the manual transmission

To check and top up the transmission oil in the Opel Vectra manual transmission, install the car in a horizontal position above the inspection hole. Check the oil level no earlier than 5 minutes after stopping the engine

Clean the area around the transmission oil level plug. On Opel models with a 1.6 liter engine, the oil level plug is located on the left side of the gearbox behind the drive shaft, indicated by an arrow. On 1.8L and 2.0L engine models, the level plug is located on the right front side of the transmission behind the drive shaft. The oil level in the Opel Vectra gearbox should reach the lower edge of the hole for the oil level plug.

If it is necessary to add oil to the gearbox, unscrew the breather from the top of the gearbox housing

Add the necessary Opel Vectra B gear oil through the breather hole until oil starts to flow out of the oil level plug hole. Torque tighten the gearbox oil level plug and install the breather on top of the manual gearbox.

If during the ride you feel that the gearbox is not working as usual (the car is slipping, periodically troit, does not turn on or turns on the gears with jerks), then you need to urgently check your gearbox. These symptoms indicate a likely imminent breakdown. Changing the oil at the Opel Vectra V gearbox is the first thing the car owner should do in case of malfunctions.

Shocks in the transmission, a drop in power (traction) while driving, the appearance of a transmission emergency signal on the instrument panel are some of the few signs that your gearbox needs care. Often, such problems appear in those cars whose owners have never or very long ago changed the oil MTF (manual transmission fluid) or ATF (for automatic transmissions). Regardless of which transmission - manual or automatic - your car is equipped with, the symptoms of abnormal operation of the gearbox will be the same.

Opel Vectra B

From time to time it is necessary to check the level of MTF or ATF in your gearbox. If the car does not warm up in winter, and its operation is carried out on a cold gearbox, this will also result in further problems. Remember - untimely replacement can lead to costly repairs.

Instructions for changing the oil in a manual transmission

Consider the instructions for changing the MTF in Opel Vectra B cars for F13, F17, F18 and F23 checkpoints. The gearbox identification code is located on the top of the transmission housing.

Tools

To change the MTF fluid in a car, you will need:

  • a set of wrenches (in particular, prepare wrenches for “13” and “16”);
  • flat screwdriver;
  • thread lock;
  • ordinary pharmacy syringe;
  • gearbox pan gasket;
  • container for waste liquid;
  • acetone.

And, of course, you will need oil. For manual transmissions, it is categorically not recommended to use counterfeit oil made in China - this is fraught with further breakdowns in the box. Opel SAE 75W-80 MTF is best suited - you need two liters of liquid.

Steps

Let's start with the actual oil change:

  1. We take a wrench on “16” and unscrew the bolts securing the engine crankcase protection to the body.
  2. We remove protection.
  3. We take the key to “13” and unscrew 3 bolts out of the 10 available on the front of the manual transmission pan (by unscrewing the bolts, the front part will hang down a little, respectively, the liquid will drain in this place). The remaining 7 bolts need to be loosened (but not completely unscrewed) to cleanly drain the MTF.

  4. Next, you need a container to collect the spent consumable item - we take it and substitute it under the pallet.
  5. Then we take a flat screwdriver prepared in advance - you need to insert it between the pallet and the body of your manual transmission and slightly bend part of the pallet.
  6. Having done this, MTF will begin to drain out of the box in a thin stream. When it is glass, you need to unscrew the cover completely and wipe it from accumulated dirt and waste fluid, as well as the remnants of the rubber gasket. To do this, use acetone or another solvent.
  7. Then, from the remnants of the gasket and MTF, we clean the gearbox housing where the pan is attached.

  8. Next, you need to put the cover of the pallet in place. We take a pre-prepared thread lock and a gasket, put it on the cover with the red side and tighten all 10 bolts as tight as possible.
  9. Now we need to remove the front left wheel. For more convenience, you can also remove the battery and support for it.
  10. The wheel is removed and now, using the key to “13” (it will be more convenient to use a long ratchet), we unscrew the MTF level control plug in the box, which is located on the left side of the manual transmission housing.

    Check hole for manual transmission oil level

  11. Under the hood on the manual transmission we find the breather and unscrew it.
  12. The MTF is being replaced. To do this, we take a medical syringe and fill in the amount of MTF we need through the breather (up to two liters). In order to prevent oil from flowing out of the hole, you need to jack up the left side of your Opel Vectra.

    Opel Vetra Manual Transmission Breather

  13. After wiping the plug, put it back with the key to “13”.
  14. We twist the breather.
  15. As for cars with the “F23” gearbox marking, here the MTF is replaced in the same order. Only a few of these manual transmissions have a slightly overstated fluid level in the box as standard. Therefore, during the change of the “consumable”, when the MTF level has approached the mark of the control hole, the plug (which is located under the bottom, on the box) must be tightened and about half a liter of liquid should be added through the breather. As a rule, control plugs in Opel Vectra B models are marked with a yellow mark.

Instructions for changing the oil in automatic transmission

Changing the transmission ATF in an automatic transmission is in many ways similar to changing the oil in a manual gearbox, but there are some differences, which we will discuss further.

Tools

In the case of replacing ATF in an automatic box with an Opel Vectra V, a little less tools will be required (in automatic transmission, the fluid is drained through a special hole).

To replace ATF in an Opel automatic transmission, we need:

  • set of wrenches;
  • new gasket;
  • capacity for spent ATF;
  • funnel;
  • new oil filter.

You can also get a compressor to purge the filter.

Steps

The frequency of replacing ATF in automatic transmissions is not indicated in the operating instructions. In order for the car to “run” longer, experts at the service station recommend replacing the ATF at least every 40 thousand kilometers.

  1. First you need to warm up your automatic transmission to 60 degrees.
  2. Then we drive into a pit or overpass and turn off the engine.
  3. Then you need to climb under the bottom of the car, find the automatic transmission and unscrew the drain cap on it.
  4. We are waiting until all the ATF is merged.

  5. Next, using the key to “13”, you must carefully unscrew the bolts securing the pan (there will still be oil in it).
  6. We are waiting for the main part of the ATF (about 4 liters) to merge. Attention! in total, there are about 7 liters of oil in the Opel Vectra automatic box. At home, it is impossible to completely merge it. This is done only when the gearbox is completely disassembled.
  7. Remove the gasket and install a new one.

  8. Then we remove the filter and wash or blow it off the dirt and put it in place, or install a new filter component instead.
  9. We twist the ATF drain plug, put the automatic transmission pan in place and tighten it with bolts.
  10. Then we insert a funnel into the hole to check the ATF level and pour into the box about the same amount of liquid as was drained.
  11. Now we start the engine and, with the brake pedal depressed, alternately switch all speeds with a delay of about 5 seconds.
  12. Once again, check the fluid level in the box, if necessary, top up.
  13. You need to make a short trip (up to 10 km) and check the oil level again on the dipstick.

In order to change the oil in a manual gearbox, we need:

  1. the oil itself;
  2. differential cover gasket;
  3. thread lock;
  4. Key on 11;

We climb under the car, remove the engine protection, if any. After that, we have direct access to the box cover, or rather, the differential cover!

We unscrew all the bolts with a key of 11, then carefully pry off the cover and drain the oil.

When all the oil is drained, remove the cover and in front of us is the differential gear.

Perhaps at the ends there will be parts of the old gasket. Which will need to be removed. I used a regular knife.

After we clean the cap from the old oil.

We take out the cork with a magnetic core. We look at her. If everything is fine, we continue to work.

Changing the oil in the Opel Vectra gearbox is most often associated with the repair of the automatic transmission itself, or it is replaced with a new one in the course of repairing oil leaks, since it must be drained for work. The oil in the automatic transmission is filled in by the manufacturer once for the entire life of the car. It is recommended to entrust the oil change in the Opel Vectra automatic transmission to professionals, but in some cases this operation can be handled on your own.

Functions of ATF oil in automatic transmission Opel Vectra:

  • effective lubrication of rubbing surfaces and mechanisms;
  • reduction of mechanical load on the nodes;
  • heat dissipation;
  • removal of microparticles resulting from corrosion or wear of parts.
The color of ATF oil for automatic transmission Opel Vectra allows not only to distinguish between oils by type, but also helps to find out in the event of a leak from which system the fluid escaped. For example, the oil in automatic transmission and power steering has a red tint, antifreeze is green, and in the engine it is yellowish.
Reasons for oil leakage from automatic transmission in Opel Vectra:
  • wear of automatic transmission seals;
  • wear of the shaft surfaces, the occurrence of a gap between the shaft and the sealing element;
  • wear of the automatic transmission sealing element and the speedometer drive shaft;
  • play of the input shaft of the automatic transmission;
  • damage to the sealing layer in the joints between parts of the automatic transmission: sump, automatic transmission housing, crankcase, clutch housing;
  • loosening of the bolts that provide the connection of the above parts of the automatic transmission;
The low oil level in the Opel Vectra automatic transmission is the main reason for the failure of the clutches. Due to the low fluid pressure, the friction clutches are poorly pressed against the steel discs and do not have enough contact with each other. As a result, the friction linings in the Opel Vectra automatic transmission become very hot, charred and destroyed, significantly polluting the oil.

Due to a lack of oil or low-quality oil in the Opel Vectra automatic transmission:

  • plungers and channels of the valve body are clogged with mechanical particles, which leads to a shortage of oil in the packages and provokes wear of the bushing, rubbing parts of the pump, etc.;
  • the steel disks of the gearbox overheat and wear out quickly;
  • rubber-coated pistons, thrust discs, clutch drum, etc. overheat and burn;
  • the valve body wears out and becomes unusable.
Contaminated automatic transmission oil cannot fully remove heat and provide high-quality lubrication of parts, which leads to various malfunctions of the Opel Vectra automatic transmission. Heavily contaminated oil is an abrasive suspension that, under high pressure, creates a sandblasting effect. Intense impact on the valve body leads to thinning of its walls at the locations of the control valves, as a result of which numerous leaks can occur.
You can check the oil level in the Opel Vectra automatic transmission using a dipstick. The dipstick has two pairs of marks - the upper pair of Max and Min allows you to determine the level in hot oil, the lower pair - in cold. Using the dipstick, it is easy to check the condition of the oil: you need to drop the oil onto a clean white cloth.

When choosing an Opel Vectra automatic transmission oil for replacement, you should be guided by a simple principle: it is best to use an oil recommended by Opel. At the same time, instead of mineral oil, semi-synthetic or synthetic oil can be poured, but in no case should an oil “class lower” than prescribed be used.

Synthetic oil for automatic transmission Opel Vectra is called "non-replaceable", it is poured for the entire life of the car. Such oil does not lose its properties under the influence of high temperature and is designed for a very long period of use of the Opel Vectra. But we must not forget about the appearance of a mechanical suspension as a result of friction clutch wear with a very significant mileage. If the automatic transmission has been operated for some time in conditions of lack of oil, it is necessary to check the degree of its contamination and, if necessary, replace it.

Ways to change the oil in an automatic transmission Opel Vectra:

  • Partial oil change in Opel Vectra box;
  • Complete oil change in the Opel Vectra box;
A partial oil change in an Opel Vectra automatic transmission can be done independently. To do this, just unscrew the drain on the pallet, driving the car onto the overpass, and collect the oil in a container. Usually up to 25-40% of the volume flows out, the remaining 60-75% remain in the torque converter, that is, in fact, this is an update, not a replacement. To update the oil in the Opel Vectra automatic transmission in this way to the maximum, 2-3 replacements will be required.

A complete oil change for the Opel Vectra automatic transmission is carried out using an automatic transmission oil change unit, auto repair specialists. In this case, more ATF oil will be required than the Opel Vectra automatic transmission can accommodate. Flushing takes one and a half or double the volume of fresh ATF. The cost will be more expensive than a partial replacement, and not every car service provides such a service.
Partial ATF oil change in the Opel Vectra automatic transmission according to a simplified scheme:

  1. We unscrew the drain plug, drain the old ATF oil;
  2. We unscrew the automatic transmission pan, which, in addition to the bolts holding it, is treated along the contour with a sealant.
  3. We get access to the automatic transmission filter, it is advisable to change it at each oil change, or rinse it.
  4. At the bottom of the pallet there are magnets that are necessary to collect metal dust and chips.
  5. We clean the magnets and wash the pallet, wipe it dry.
  6. Install the automatic transmission filter in place.
  7. We install the automatic transmission pan in place, replacing the gasket of the automatic transmission pan if necessary.
  8. We twist the drain plug, replacing the drain plug gasket for the automatic transmission.
We fill the oil through the technological filler hole (where the automatic transmission dipstick is located), using the dipstick we control the oil level in the automatic transmission to a cold one. After changing the oil in the automatic transmission, it is important to check its level after driving 10-20 km, already with the automatic transmission warmed up. Top up to level if necessary. The regularity of changing the oil depends not only on the mileage, but also on the nature of the ride on the Opel Vectra. You should focus not on the recommended mileage, but on the degree of contamination of the oil, systematically checking it.
