Opel Zafira Family B owner reviews. Opel Zafira Family B owner reviews Start of sales in Russia

New name

Since 2011, Opel has launched the new Zafira, it should be clarified that the new Zafira is. The previous model is still in production. What she has to her advantage is a laconic design, calm lines in the exterior and interior. Opel Zafira Family (last generation) with its small dimensions, has extensive advantages - practical plastic in the cabin, rear seats move longitudinally, a huge trunk with a huge access door, low loading height, a third row with the ability to fold the seats into a flat floor, a comfortable chassis from Asters with excellent handling. Good sales were ensured by prices - this model is one of the most affordable among minivans on the market. But today we are talking about a new one, so let’s move on to a test drive of the Opel Opel Zafira Tourer.

We'll tell you about the new

Now this is not a gray box, now the New Zafira has grown by 19 cm, the base has been expanded by 57 mm, which has a very useful effect on increasing the space for passengers. Of course, Opel has increased the cargo compartment.

Broken lines are the main motif in the design of the Opel Zafira. The front optics are a solid boomerang, flowing rear lights, arrows on the sides of the body. Using these techniques, engineers tried to make this Opel visually larger. And how boomerang headlights fascinate (or even frighten) oncoming drivers is a different story...

Opel calls Zafira Tourer “Family Business Class”

This time the Astra model was taken as the basis for the Opel Zafira Tourer. Many elements are taken from it, both positive and negative, for example, the problem of the Astra model is the abundance and similarity of keys on the panel, the grouping of keys leads to the fact that it is impossible to find the desired button “blindly”.

Test drive Opel Zafira Tourer:

Positive aspects of technology transfer. Firstly, these are the front seats. After their appearance on they received official quality confirmation from the German Orthopedic Association AGR. A clear backrest, developed bolsters along the edges, and adjustable cushion tilt allow you to “feel” the car, and the rider is not afraid of long hauls. You can adjust it to suit yourself as you like - they move horizontally and vertically.

The steering wheel is also from Astra J, with which we can control cruise control, music and telephone; it has adjustments for both angle and reach.

The car, like its predecessor, is roomy and has acquired many new features.

Flowing lines divided the glove compartments. There are two of them, upper and lower, plus the fact that the lower one is cooled.

Parking brake - now get used to the fact that on new cars it's just a button. An armrest is located above the handbrake. Just where your elbow tends to go when driving.

The most important feature of the Opel Zafira with the Tourer prefix is the ability to rearrange the interior - in this seven-seater car, both the second and third rows of seats can be moved apart, moved as desired - they move forward and backward by 200mm - just with the wave of a magic wand. The engineers in this model finally made the second row separate - after all, it is necessary to get to the third row. The third row also retracts into the floor, forming a platform comparable to a pickup truck. There is a place in the gallery, but don’t flatter yourself, it’s not a bus after all. And most importantly, even with the third row seats deployed. There are many options for rearranging the interior, but if you are looking for cup holders or folding tables, then there are none. Omission.

For example, the Zafira Tourer Cosmo has an elegant interior option - it is made in 2 colors, with leather inserts. And simpler versions are equipped only with gray material.

By adding the Tourer, Opel, in addition to separating the models, focuses our attention on the profile of the new Zafira - a traveler car.

Just a travel assistant - the system closely monitors the road, reduces speed and increases distance, while the car itself accelerates - one word adaptive control from the practice of American drivers. The family German also has blind spot monitoring in his arsenal - as soon as an obstacle appears that the driver may not see, a signal immediately appears. For greater safety, the kit includes a full range of modern airbags and curtains, seat belts with pretensioners and active head restraints. In general, the result is 5 stars of the European EuroNCAP system.

Step on the gas

Zafira is actively picking up speed. Of course, it doesn’t take your breath away like a sports car, but it’s not a sports car or even a business sedan. For a family man, the values are different.

German engineers have tuned the suspension comfortably - potholes do not cause any inconvenience. This German takes turns clearly, like clockwork. Here it is, German training - you feel confident. Rolls and drifts are not scary.

Prices for new and used cars

The pricing policy for used Opel Zafira cars is very different. The condition of the car itself has a lot to do with it. You can buy this model of a five- or six-year-old model for an average of 600 - 700 thousand rubles. If the car was originally fully equipped and in good technical condition, then the cost can reach a million. If we take the 1st and 2nd generation Zafira, then today their cost averages up to 200 - 300 thousand rubles.

New Opel Zafira from the showroom will cost from 1 to 2 million, depending on the selected configuration and power. You should also take into account additional costs associated with registration and insurance of the car.

Operating costs

The operating costs of an Opel Zafira car are on average as follows:

  • service and maintenance - 6,000 rubles per year;
  • CASCO - 17,000 rubles per year;
  • car tax - from 5,000 rubles depending on the region;
  • fuel with average consumption in the city is 18,000 rubles per year.

Naturally, all points are calculated individually, taking into account the engine and costs, but on average this car is quite budget-friendly.

Competitors of the Opel Zafira

Among the main competitors of the Opel Zafira A 150, two models can also be distinguished from the Opel concern.

Buying an Opel Antara will be ideal for a Russian car enthusiast, since with the abundance of uneven Russian roads, this option will be the best. It can be used both on city streets and off-road. Manufacturers have introduced the most modern technologies to provide the necessary traction in absolutely any conditions. It is very comfortable to drive both on steep ascents and descents.

Typical problems during operation

This car differs from many minivans in its durability and reliability. If you purchase a new car from a dealership, then for the first three years all work is carried out under insurance. If you bought a used car, then be prepared for the following expenses and problems:

  • probability of sensor failure;
  • increased noise in the cabin;
  • problems with navigation.

conclusions

We have considered all the main points that should be taken into account before purchasing an Opel Zafira car of any year. With the right approach to choosing a car, any owner will be satisfied with the purchase. It is important to accurately understand all the typical problems, as well as think about the issue of operating costs and so on in advance.

(6 ratings, average: 4,33 out of 5)

The new generation of Zafira must be treated with respect - after all, this is not just another minivan, but the heir to the class leader. After all, the previous generation is the champion among single-volume cars on the Russian market. And in Europe, the Zafira is in excellent demand - a total of 2.2 million cars of two generations have been sold since 1998.

What was the reason for such success? With small external dimensions, which were further concealed by a modest, laconic and stylish design, inside the Zafira offered its occupants extraordinary comfort. The second row of seats moved back and forth, providing legroom or increasing the volume of the already large trunk. The third row of seats was hidden in the floor, without depriving the owner of a spare tire, without which there is nothing to do on Russian roads. The only drawback was, perhaps, the continuous “bench” of the second row sofa, which made it difficult to transport bulky cargo when there was one passenger in the back. The minivan gave the person sitting behind the wheel the joy of communication - the Astra chassis provided excellent handling.

And, of course, the price - Zafira was one of the most affordable single-volume cars in its class, which, you see, is important for young families, and the Russian assembly made it possible to adjust prices a little more. All this together ensured good demand for it in the market, where the sedan is still considered the most “family” body. However, it is too early to write off the current generation; its production will continue. The new, third generation of Zafira has also received a new name - now the car should be called Zafira Tourer, so don’t get confused in our catalog!

The word Tourer clearly hints that the new car is intended for travel. So we tried it in action - on the autobahns in the vicinity of Munich, where the European driving presentation took place. And then, when Tourer reaches Russia, we will give him a local test with passion - in Europe, everyone can show themselves to be great, but our directions will put everything in its place, and the family will need to be involved in the test - there are no stricter judges than them find.

Where has the former modesty gone?! Predatory boomerangs of headlights with zigzag daytime running lights, intricate shape of LED rear “dimensions”, a blade-like flourish on board. Now the exterior, on the contrary, seems to be designed to visually enlarge the car and make it more noticeable. If you see such headlights in the rearview mirror, you will, willy-nilly, turn to the right!

Everything behind the wheel is familiar and familiar - the Astra underwent a long test in our editorial office. So I’ll just once again complain about the abundance and monotony of buttons. Almost any action leads to the need to be distracted from the road; you won’t be able to find the desired function “by touch”. The front seats deserve the highest praise - it’s not for nothing that they have a certificate from the orthopedic association AGR (German Association for a Healthy Back)! A moderately rigid backrest, well-developed bolsters on the sides, and adjustable cushion tilt allow you to “feel” the car perfectly and at the same time not get tired after long hauls. So from me and my office back - respect to the designers! The only thing that is slightly lacking is the range of height adjustment of the steering wheel.

Despite the now traditional design with double front pillars, there is no need to complain about visibility; even at tight Munich intersections, everything is visible: the pillars are not wide. But for those who on the road like to look at the wedges of migratory birds, the tops of skyscrapers or just stars, there is a pleasant surprise: the front part of the ceiling, together with the sun visors, moves back with a slight movement. This solution was first used on the Citroen C4 Picasso, but I can’t help but welcome the appearance of this option - together with the glass roof over the second row of seats, they turn the Zafira into a kind of aquarium, visually expanding the space.

Now let's see where parents sitting in the front row can stuff all the essentials for themselves and their children on the road - supplies of food and entertainment, road atlases and lists of all nearby attractions, napkins and other belongings. The front panel, which goes towards the horizon, initially inspires optimism; in it, it seems, organizing a good pantry is not a problem. There are two glove boxes in front of the passenger at once! Convenient, of course - but both of them are very modest in size, and the top one is also of such a shape that only papers will fit in there. The situation is slightly saved by a compartment near the gearshift lever and a small “box” with a lid under the navigation display: phones and other small things can be placed there.

But the interior designers pinned their main hopes, of course, on the miracle armrest. We have already seen a similar design in Meriva, but there the aluminum rails on which the “floors” of this device ride stretch all the way to the rear seat, making the third passenger superfluous. In the Zafira they don't go as far, but still allow front occupants to stow small items in the “basement”, or use two cup holders, or push up a travel-friendly armrest. You can even remove all these containers, for example, when cleaning the interior.

But still, even in total there is not enough space (compared, for example, with the same Citroen C4 Picasso), so you will have to carefully think about what to take “in hand luggage” before the trip. By the way, there are no refrigerated containers either, and it will not be possible to keep drinks cold on a summer trip. Minus!

Let's move back. For the new generation of Zafira, interior designers have developed a fundamentally new scheme for transforming the second row. A very unusual layout! The middle passenger here is slightly disadvantaged in his rights - if there are full-fledged seats at the edges, then sitting in the middle is not so comfortable. But the back of the central chair can be folded and, by lifting its quarters up, you get two beautiful armrests. At the same time, two passengers have the opportunity to move even further back and move a little towards the center, and the resulting seats can be compared to a limousine - at least cross your legs! There is also a tilt adjustment for the backrests, but it’s almost not enough; on a long journey you want to lean back more.

However, this scheme forced the sacrifice of some elements of comfort. So, it is really impossible for passengers to have a snack on the go - there are no cup holders, there is nothing to lay out food on, and there are no folding tables in the front backrests either. Although the amount of space allows them to be placed, they will not interfere with the legs. It turns out that a car is more convenient for traveling with business partners to the golf club than with the family at sea?

The third row seats can be accessed with one movement of the hand - “pull the string” and they will appear. To get there, the second row seat can be folded forward - an important advantage over the previous generation of Zafira, where it was necessary to kick out all the passengers (the sofa was solid). You can sit in the gallery, you can’t count on royal comfort, but for short trips it’s quite enough.

Opel’s signature feature—a bicycle rack built into the rear bumper—has found its place in the new Zafira. Previously, it supported 2 bicycles of 30 kg each, now it can (optionally) be increased to 4 bicycles (20 kg each). And one more plus - the bicycles do not need to be removed to open the back door; the entire mount folds back, giving access to luggage. However, it is worth remembering that this option deprives the car of a spare tire.

In their flat form, the seats, like chairs from IKEA, take up very little space in height, almost without concealing the volume of the trunk. And the spare tire fits under the bottom. The result is a completely optimal balance of comfort and spaciousness. Yes, even one decent bag won’t fit into the trunk with the third-row seats up, but if it’s important for you to carry six passengers fully equipped, then you’re in the next class of minivans.

Despite the fact that there were several dozen cars on the test, they all turned out to be in one and only version: a two-liter diesel engine with 165 hp. and a manual transmission. The same engine (2.0 CDTI) will be available in 110 and 130 hp versions. Of course, Europe will choose diesel engines, but in our country the situation will be the opposite, gasoline engines and automatic transmissions will rule the roost. The base engine will be a naturally aspirated 1.8 with a power of 115 hp, followed by a turbocharged 1.4 (120 or 140 hp), familiar to us from Astra. They even promise a natural gas version! By the way, only the two most powerful versions will be equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission: 1.4/140 hp. and 2.0 CDTI/165 hp.

No “respect for ancestors”! The Zafira Tourer did not inherit any signature features from either the previous generation or its closest relative, the Astra. The front boomerangs are taken straight from the Ampera hybrid. I wonder whether bold design experiments will be continued in other models?

The children have a console or tablet with cartoons, the wife has an atlas. But the driver is not bored on the road either; there is enough entertainment: the car can be stuffed to capacity with all kinds of “assistants” and “helpers”. For example, adaptive cruise control, which monitors the distance to the vehicle in front. If he slows down, or, for example, someone gets between you, the smart “cruise” itself reduces the speed by applying the brakes. The obstacle is gone - it will accelerate to the previous fixed value. With our chaotic Brownian traffic on the highways, this option should be more useful than regular cruise control. On German roads, it works excellently - it brakes and accelerates smoothly, and does not make passengers nod their heads or make the driver nervous. And the permissible distance to the “leader” is adjusted by choosing from three permissible values. You get used to this thing instantly and don’t put your foot on the gas again.

If the driver is too distracted from the road, then a duo of collision avoidance systems will come into play: the first, having detected that an accident is inevitable, will signal the driver with a loud sound and a picture on the display. But if he did not take action, then the second system will begin to settle the car in order to reduce the severity of the consequences of the accident. Slowdown - up to 0.3 g. For inattentive drivers, needless to say, the system is useful! The organizers strictly warned us: don’t even try it. Like, she gets involved only when she understands that a blow cannot be avoided, so don’t take risks. But the system still showed its mettle to me, and the car remained intact. Munich street, road repairs, detour - and the right edge of the road is fenced off with temporary barriers. There is a dense flow around, and the lanes in Europe are very narrow, not like here... When approaching a fairly sharp turn, the system thought that I was about to go into the fence, and at the most crucial moment it slammed on the brakes and began heart-rending squeak. It’s good that this lasted only a fraction of a second, then she realized that I had turned the steering wheel and loosened my grip, but I admit honestly - the surprise was not the most pleasant. So we should not forget about such “artificial intelligence” capable of interfering in management.

There are also less useful options for us - a lane control system (warns with a sound if you hit a marking without turning on the turn signal), there is even a traffic sign recognition function. Alas, our roads have not yet matured to this level, although the Opel Eye system is installed on models supplied to Russia. But monitoring blind spots with indicators in the rear-view mirrors will be useful for less experienced drivers. There is, of course, a navigation system: on German roads it displays information in great detail and clearly, right down to which lane is best to stay in to maneuver at an intersection. Let's see how it behaves in the Russified version, because on Astra the navigation was not so detailed.

However, what am I all about electronics? There’s simply nothing to tell about the behavior of the car. On a perfectly smooth autobahn, even the differences in the operating modes of the FlexRide chassis are not felt. Yes, Sport is stiffer, but Tour has a lot more swing. But in general, in my opinion, this is an option for which you don’t have to overpay. By the way, the front suspension here is not from Astra, but from Insignia. But one thing is clear - the Tourer has retained the ability to give pleasure. Turn the grippy, not at all “bus” steering wheel - and a school drawing course pops up in your head, a section on pairing straight lines and circles. Writes arcs like a compass! And the higher the speed, the greater the thrill; at 200 km/h a rather large minivan is controlled as if it were 120 km/h. Is it possible to accidentally import German roads to us along with the car? The question is rhetorical - our two troubles seem to be with us forever...

And the third problem - bad diesel fuel - makes us regret that diesel engines will not be in great demand here. He is good! In the company of a 6-speed manual transmission, there are no problems at start, a smooth acceleration, and there is no sharp drop in traction characteristic of many diesel engines due to a narrow operating range. There is enough traction for any maneuver, unless, of course, you take seriously the manufacturer’s words that this version is “sports”. For sports, it is worth waiting for news from the OPC branch, although the decision on the release of the “hot bus” has not yet been made. The engine does not bother the engine with vibrations at idle, and starts easily: when using the start-stop system, which turns off the car at traffic lights, the body does not shudder much when starting. When cruising, the tachometer shows 2000 rpm, the noise in the cabin is small and is divided equally - a little wind in the mirrors, a little tires, a little engine. Cozy, comfortable, and you want to drive for hours. And consumption on the highway is 5-6 liters. In the future, we'll see how the Tourer performs with gasoline engines. And on our asphalt.

Of course, the car will be more expensive than the current generation. New engines, larger dimensions - and internal competition must be avoided. One can only hope that the price will not be prohibitive. And then, with redoubled forces, these dissimilar Zafira sisters will even more seriously push out competitors in the single-volume market. How much? This will be clear after the New Year, when prices will be announced and orders will begin to be accepted. “Live” cars will appear with us at the end of spring.

The Zafira Tourer revealed numerous advantages and some disadvantages of this car. The Germans decided, according to experts, to bring glamor to their 2011 compact minivan. And the review that followed really showed that things were getting better for the manufacturers, and the Opel Zafira noticeably became prettier, slimmer and gained strength.

Outside

Figuratively speaking, the Opel Zafira has turned into the familiar fairy-tale heroine Cinderella, with the only difference that she no longer needs to go back at twelve. We hasten to reassure motorists who were satisfied with the previous model. No exit from the market is planned, and the Opel Zafira Tourer will only become a kind of flagship addition. “The company has added a modernized version of the third generation to the second-generation car,” that’s exactly what the manufacturers said. And there is nothing surprising about this. Both versions will coexist together, just as Astra and Astra Family coexist now.

This is a peculiar feature of the German manufacturer, which in no way wants to lose consumers. Moreover, the previous Zafira took first place in the list of best-selling compact vans on the Russian market. And cars will be protected from internal competition by prices that differ markedly from each other.

You immediately notice that work on the new creation has gone briskly. At a show in Switzerland, designers from Germany presented a modernized version just for fun. The Opel Zafira Tourer turned out to be in the spirit of the company's latest technological ideas. And just citing the transformed front optical boomerangs as an example, you begin to understand how much the car has won. The German slogan Wir leben Autos, which translated into Russian means: “We live by cars,” can be rephrased differently. It will sound like this: “We give new life to cars.”

Similarities with Astra

Indeed, the Opel Zafira Tourer has changed in earnest. It can already be easily put on a par with such monsters of the automotive world as Mercedes, Audi. In its stylistic decoration, the new Opel Zafira Tourer followed the same lines as its predecessor. Thus, the car was noticeably rounded and acquired the familiar bright and stylish stampings placed on the sides of the body. On the Astra we notice the same rear lights, only in a narrower and more horizontal projection. Only for some reason the Opel Zafira Tourer looks like an offended child; apparently, he didn’t like that he was copied. Or does he not like the main touch of the developers in the form of “boomerangs”?

By the way, on the new black Opel Zafira Tourer, which was tested, this mistake turned out to be invisible. In addition, changes also affected the dimensions of the new Opel Zafira Tourer. It has become twenty centimeters longer, although this is not noticeable on a black car. This is probably due to the large glass area or due to the optional 19-inch wheels. And the good news is that the Opel Zafira Tourer, which has grown in all respects, no longer looks overweight.

The Opel Zafira Tourer was modified with a 1.4-liter engine. The car is available with both a manual transmission and a 6-speed automatic transmission. The wheels of the new Opel Zafira Tourer appeared in completely different shoes in size 19. Such low-profile tires affected not only the aesthetic perception and its excellent handling, but also the ride stiffness. But, as they say, what is good for a German is death for a Russian. Let's check if the saying is right? After all, on Russian roads more than one “German” car sacrificed its suspension while traversing the expanses of our vast country. In general, the technical characteristics of the Opel Zafira Tourer, which can be viewed below, will make fans of the series quite surprised.

Inside

The interior of the Opel Zafira Tourer is very comfortable. It's homely, warm, quiet and bright here. Inside, it becomes clear where the extra centimeters of the Opel Zafira Tourer went. It is incredibly roomy and is a paradise for touring with the whole family.

Panoramic roof - super!

Especially if you add the benefits of a panoramic roof, now presented in the form of solid glass. The regular Opel Zafira has four separate windows. If we add to the integrity of the picture an enlarged windshield that smoothly turns into the roof, the driver will understand that traveling in such a car is a real aesthetic pleasure. Especially if the route is laid through a beautiful mountain serpentine. The car will be an excellent help in poor visibility conditions, due to the highly narrowed vertical crossbars, which are the main link of the A-pillar. This advantage provides excellent visibility even on sharp turns. By the way, the price of the Opel Zafira Tourer, in particular, depends on this innovation.

In addition, the panoramic windshield of the Zafira Tourer is a miracle! As you know, overcast clouds are nothing new in our country, well, at least in the northern regions. And such an innovation will become more necessary for Russia than for sunny Europe. Yes, here the Germans worked not only brilliantly, but also consciously.

The rear passengers of the Opel Zafira Tourer were not deprived of the opportunity to get outside daylight. The impressive-looking windows in the roof, through which light, in fact, passes into the cabin, make it possible to study the starry sky even on a dark night. Romantic, isn't it? By the way, it is convenient to study the basics of astronomy in the Opel Zafira Tourer while lying down, if both rows of rear seats are laid out on a flat floor.

Despite this, in the Opel Zafira Tourer the developers went even further. They took the interior seriously, and not only its design, but also the plastic is a significant difference from the interior of the previous version of the Opel Zafira. Some experts compared the Opel Zafira Tourer with the flagship version of the Insignia in terms of interior perception. The new product also adopted some interior elements from it.

The seats are just great, but not the third row seats!

Tested for profile and hardness inside and out, the seats of the Opel Zafira Tourer are not automatically adjusted. But this approach makes it possible to customize both the driver’s and passenger’s seats in very wide ranges. As for the electric drive, the Opel Zafira Tourer has it only at the lumbar support and then as an additional option.

Video review of the Opel Zafira Tourer:

In general, the seats of the Opel Zafira Tourer deserve a separate discussion. Developers from Germany have also reworked their proprietary transformation system. If earlier the second row of seats was a single sofa, folding like a carpet close to the front seats, now we see here three seats, completely separate, which in terms of the length of the longitudinal type guide - and it is almost 280 mm - are champions among analogues. The chairs themselves can be adjusted for tilt in 4 (think about it!) fixed positions! Yes, some miracles! In the second row of seats in the Opel Zafira Tourer, if there are no oversized people, three of you can safely sit. And at the same time, unlike the same Ford Grand or Mazda 5, you can sit in the middle for a long time without fear of swelling of the limbs. All this is ensured by a full-fledged chair.

If there are only a couple of people sitting in the second row of the Opel Zafira Tourer, then you can fold the seats and dispense with the middle seat, turning the chair into a comfortable armrest. At the same time, the movement of the guides of the remaining side seats will allow them to move closer to the center. This adds a lot of comfort, especially since you no longer need to push against the doors.

As for the last row of doors, they are only suitable for children. Older people will not be very comfortable here, and this can be called the only disadvantage of the Opel Zafira Tourer. Having sat here, a person will constantly ask the front passengers to move down a little, and his head will rest against the ceiling, on top of everything else. In general, there is no third row of seats in the Opel Zafira Tourer or it has not been modernized well enough.

Real space shuttle

In addition to many interesting little things, the Opel Zafira Tourer is also equipped with a whole set of electronic components, comparable only to the equipment of some space shuttle. For example, the Opel Eye front-view camera, placed in an element of the interior rear-view mirror, allows you to remember road signs that limit the speed of movement and monitor the markings. Thanks to this, the Opel Zafira Tourer no longer becomes a mindless machine, but a real living creature that can remember and draw conclusions.

In addition, the Opel Zafira Tourer was taught to look around and warn the driver about collisions with counterparts downstream that fall into the “dead” zone. Well, has this made the car any safer? Of course he did, especially since he received an automatic one, which allows him to keep his distance from the vehicle in front. And even if the Opel Zafira Tourer has a manual transmission, the electronics system will always tell you which gear it is advisable to select.

The ECO button represents the environmental component of the Opel Zafira Tourer. There is a button at the bottom of the center console and allows you to turn off the engine when the car is idle. The mode turns off the engine even while driving if the speed drops below 3 km/h. Although this is provided that the neutral position is set.

Riding

The center console of the Opel Zafira Tourer is also admirable. On it we find the “Tour” and “Sport” buttons. And as in a similar model, the top version of the Opel Zafira Tourer received a Flex Reed mechatronic chassis. It allows you not only to get used to the conditions on the road in normal mode, but also to tighten the suspension if you plan to activate the sports driving mode. And in the Sport mode of the Opel Zafira Tourer it is very comfortable to drive, since there is no roll. This is surprisingly strange, especially on a car of such height. Are these Germans wizards?

In addition, the Zafira Tourer’s extended wheelbase, which is 57 mm longer compared to the regular Opel Zafira, contributes to comfort during particularly long journeys. In addition, the track has expanded at the rear and front. And now the minivan not only steers more comfortably in turns, but also handles well on a straight road. These characteristics have been tested at optimal speeds in excess of 180 km/h, albeit on European roads where the autobahn allows it.

The sports mode of the Opel Zafira Tourer minimizes the already absent roll, and at the same time the shock absorbers are clamped, and the gas pedal and steering wheel become much more sensitive and responsive. Although with this mode you will have to sacrifice a smooth ride, and not a single bump or joint on the road will go unnoticed.

Video test drive of the Opel Zafira Tourer:

As for Tour mode, in this mode the steering response is leisurely and the chassis takes on a soft character.

It remains to find the advantages and disadvantages of the new Opel Zafira Tourer. The advantages of the car are as follows:

  • excellent handling;
  • two driving modes;
  • extended wheelbase;
  • FlexRide mechatronic chassis;
  • ecological mode Eco;
  • rich electronics;
  • good front seats;
  • huge panoramic roof.

And the disadvantages, which, one might say, are also visible:

  • third row of seats;
  • some similarities with Astra.

Final summary: the Opel Zafira Tourer car is a very successful experiment in the model range of the German manufacturer.

The Opel Zafira minivan is a family car, the main advantage of which is, first of all, a practical and spacious interior. A compact 5-door body, memorable design and excellent handling combined with maximum comfort are the main components of this car. The Zafira debuted in 1999.

In terms of its technical properties, Zafira is very similar to Astra. It only differs in slightly reinforced rear suspension. The relationship can also be seen in the design of the front part of the body, but the new product, thanks to the large bumper with an additional air intake and the chrome edging of the radiator grille, looks more solid.

Although it appears small from the outside, underneath the compact exterior lies a spacious interior suitable for any journey, short or long. The salon is spacious due to the combination of a low floor and a high ceiling. Thanks to the Flex7 seating system, the Opel Zafira offers incredible functional flexibility. Flex7 will allow you to quickly and easily change the interior configuration to suit your needs. There are several options, the car can easily be converted into a seven-seater. To do this, you just need to use a special mechanism to remove two additional seats hidden in the trunk floor. In fact, a total of 49 interior configurations can be created.

Or vice versa, thanks to the folding rear seats, you can significantly increase the volume of the cargo compartment to 490 liters. To transport larger luggage, you can slide the middle three-seater seat forward along the slide or fold it down altogether. In the second case, the capacity of the cargo compartment will increase to 1700 liters.

Comfortable seats are easily adjusted to suit the individual characteristics of the driver and passengers, providing maximum comfort. Many containers for small items, cup holders, pockets and other practical devices allow you to place a huge number of small items, which is very convenient during a long journey.

In addition to the basic configuration, the Zafira is available in Comfort, Elegance, Selection Execituve and OPC variants. Depending on the series, the car can be equipped with air conditioning, an audio system, an on-board computer, child seats, a sunroof and climate control.

To ensure safety, Opel specialists provided systems such as the DSA chassis, anti-lock braking system (ABS), electric power steering and much more to help prevent emergency situations.

Under the hood is a 16-valve engine with a displacement of 1.8 liters. Acceleration from zero to 100 km/h takes 12 seconds.

In 2001, a charged version of the Zafira OPC (GSi Turbo) was introduced. While maintaining the practicality of an ordinary minivan, the car acquired a sporty character. The exterior of the charged version features updated bumpers, a small rear spoiler and new thresholds. The picture is completed by huge 17-inch alloy wheels with 225/45 tires, a modified suspension and new larger brake discs. The main driving force of the Zafira Gsi Turbo is a two-liter 16-valve engine from the sports Astra Coupe, which accelerates the minivan to one hundred kilometers per hour in 7.6 seconds. The maximum speed of the car is 220 kilometers per hour.

In 2003, given the emergence of numerous competitors, Opel decided to slightly update the Zafira. The car received a slightly modified appearance and a new list of options. Perhaps it will be difficult to call this process a full-fledged restyling or modernization. A new false radiator grille has appeared on the exterior, which now, regardless of version and modification, has a chrome finish. Changes also affected the rear lights. All other updates must be found in the list of additional equipment. Now, as an option for your car, you can order chrome door handles, rims and rear door handles. An aluminum finish for the center console and chrome instrument surrounds are available upon request. In principle, this is where the update ends, since even before it, Zafira offered xenon headlights, climate control and many other modern technologies.

The new generation of Opel Zafira was presented in the spring of 2005 at the Geneva Motor Show. The car is built on a new platform, features a new body design and can carry up to seven passengers in three rows of seats. The overall dimensions have increased noticeably: the length has increased from 4.32 m to 4.47 m, the width has increased by 4 cm, and the height has increased by 1 cm.

The engine range includes four gasoline engines: a 1.6-liter 105 horsepower, a 1.8-liter 140 horsepower, a 2.2-liter 150 horsepower, and a two-liter turbo engine with 200 horsepower. In addition, there are three more 1.9-liter turbodiesels with a capacity of 100, 120 and 150 horsepower. These engines were borrowed from the Italian concern Fiat.

The interior trim and a new center console solution with an upward-mounted gearshift lever create comfort, a feeling of reliability and provide excellent ergonomics. Thanks to the innovative patented Flex7 system, the interior space is transformed in seconds.

To ensure safe and confident driving, the Opel Zafira's IDS interactive control system coordinates the operation of various active safety systems, such as the anti-lock braking system, the anti-slip control system and the dynamic stabilization system. Of particular note is the fact that the Zafira 2005 received the highest possible rating of five stars in Euro NCAP crash tests.

At the beginning of 2008, the Zafira was updated. Whether this Zafira is a new generation or an updated version, there is no clear answer. We can only state the fact that almost everything has changed in Zafira, but these changes are not global. The updated Zafira looks more muscular than its predecessor. The presence of expressive design elements in the front and rear parts of the body gives this compact minivan a sporty appearance. The radiator grille pattern is emphasized by chrome inserts. Volumetric rear lights with integrated transparent blocks at the level of the reverse indicators “rest” on a chrome strip. Everything is strict, but stylish.

On the Russian market, Zafira is offered in four trim levels: Essentia, Enjoi, Cosmo and OPC. The interior trim deserves special attention, which once again demonstrates the quality of German assembly. The interior design has been somewhat refreshed by chrome trim around the climate control and audio controls, as well as slightly modified trim on the instrument panel and door panels. Ergonomics are beyond praise. The Flex7 interior transformation system was, of course, retained. This system is capable of transforming the interior into a five-, four-, three- or two-seater without removing the seats. If there are seven people on board, the trunk is small, only 140 liters. But with the third row seats folded down, it increases to 645 liters, and its maximum volume is 1820 liters. The front passenger seat can also be ordered with a folding backrest, which makes it possible to carry cargo up to 2.71 meters long, an under-seat storage compartment and a folding table mounted on the backrest.

The FlexOrganizer system is available as an option. The basis of this thought-out luggage compartment organization system is made up of four horizontal rails located on the side walls of the luggage compartment. They are equipped with movable clamps for installing various slings, hooks, dividers and containers. This system allows you to safely and conveniently place almost any type of cargo.

The practical overhead console has five large compartments with drop-down lids. This console comes complete with a unique panoramic roof design consisting of four tinted glass panels, giving the body design an even more dynamic and elegant appearance. In bright sunlight, the curtains (one per panel) close synchronously. The panoramic roof is installed on the Zafira Cosmo version as standard equipment.

The engine line has been replenished with three units: gasoline and two diesel. Now there are only ten of them. The modified 1.6-liter ECOTEC petrol engine, equipped with an innovative variable valve timing system and with a power of 115 hp, will become the new mass-produced engine of the Zafira, replacing the previous four-cylinder power unit with a displacement of 1.6 liters and 105 hp. Maximum torque is now 155 Nm (3.3% higher than its predecessor), and average fuel consumption has decreased by 4.3% to 7.1 liters per 100 km. Maximum speed 185 km/h. Acceleration to 100 km/h in 13.4 seconds.

The 1.9 liter 100 hp turbo diesel engines were replaced by two ultra-efficient 1.7 liter CDTI diesel engines with common-rail battery injection and turbocharging (110 hp and 125 hp), meeting the Euro 5 standard. Average consumption fuel up to 5.7 liters per 100 km, and CO emissions are 152 g/km. These engines will not be supplied to Russia.

The Zafira features responsive steering and IDS Plus (Interactive Driving System), where IDS stands for Adaptive Chassis with CDC (Continuous Damping Control). Thanks to it, body roll is practically not felt in sharp turns. During risky maneuvers, the UCL (Understeer Control Logic) system will help - when it detects understeer of the car, it first slightly reduces the fuel supply and then slightly brakes the outer front wheel.

The manufacturer did not forget about safety. As standard equipment, any version of the Zafira is equipped with eight airbags, active head restraints, ISOFIX child seat mounts and a proprietary PRS safety pedal assembly. By the way, in Euro NCAP crash tests the Zafira received the maximum five stars.

The world premiere of the third generation Opel Zafira Tourer took place in September 2011 at the 64th International Motor Show in Frankfurt. The car received a completely different appearance. The design is made with a view to the youth audience. From the front, the head optics that flow into the air intakes catch your eye. The boomerang-shaped headlights integrate all the lighting technology at the front of the car, including fog and main lights, as well as direction indicators and daytime running lights. The body sports a stylish curved stamping line. The rear of the car is decorated with wide LED lights and a chrome strip under the lower edge of the glass. Compared to the previous generation model, the wheelbase and track have been significantly increased, which gives additional directional stability to the car. The wheelbase is 2760 mm (+57 mm), the front track is 1584 mm (+96 mm), the rear track is 1588 mm (+78 mm).

The car has three rows of seats, with a total number of seats equal to 7 (2-3-2). There have been significant changes in the vehicle's configuration: thanks to the improved Flex7 seating system, the third generation sets new standards in versatility, functionality and quality of workmanship. Opel engineers have significantly improved the concept of seat transformation. The entire third row of seats can still be folded down so that it is flush with the luggage compartment floor. But the configuration of the second row of seats has been completely changed. Now the second row is not one sofa seat, but three individual structures that can be folded and moved independently of each other. The longitudinal travel of the seat adjustment is 210 mm. The backs of the second row seats can be adjusted in four fixed positions, at an angle of 0, 16, 20 and 24 degrees.

For second-row passengers, a unique Lounge Seating system is offered as an option, which provides comfort and spaciousness in the cabin. Thanks to a clever transformation mechanism, the back of the middle seat of the second row turns into comfortable armrests for passengers in the outer seats. The second row seats can be moved back and forth within 280 mm or moved 50 mm towards the middle of the car, giving more elbow room.

The Zafira Tourer has an extremely flexible interior space - with many glove compartments, compartments and pockets for small items. And the luggage compartment is roomy: even when all 5 seats are occupied, there is still a 710-liter luggage compartment at the rear, which is 65 liters more than its predecessor. And if you fold the 2nd row seats into the floor (individually), the loading space reaches 1860 liters (+ 40 liters). The 7-seater Zafira Tourer has a different arrangement: when fully seated, the trunk is not at all large - barely 155 liters. However, when the seats of the 2nd and rear rows are folded, the capacity of the cargo compartment increases to 1790 liters.

There's also plenty of storage space throughout the cabin, including the revolutionary FlexConsole, an enhanced version of the innovative FlexRail system. The armrest contains a storage compartment and a cup holder, and they can be moved along aluminum rails, making use of the huge space between the front seats even more efficient. The 2011 Opel Zafira Tourer also features for the first time the second generation of the exclusive integrated FlexFix bicycle transport system. Based on experience with the previous generation of FlexFix, the system has been updated to include a new locking system that is more functional and easier to use.

The interior has a feeling of spaciousness and comfort. And in terms of interior design and finishing, the Zafira Tourer is noticeably superior to the previous generation: expressive design of the front panel, interestingly decorated interior. The finishing materials are of good quality. Frontal visibility has been significantly improved thanks to a completely redesigned front end with thin A-pillars and repositioned exterior mirrors. The interior can also be complemented by a panoramic windshield, available as an additional option.

The Zafira Tourer is equipped with a front suspension from the Opel Insignia model with a subframe on insulating supports and MacPherson struts. The intelligent rear suspension design is equipped with a Watt mechanism. This solution has several advantages: it provides excellent stability and controllability, comfort and noise insulation, and the design becomes lighter and more compact compared to a multi-link suspension.

As power units for the new Opel Zafira 2012 Tourer, two 1.4-liter petrol turbo engines with a capacity of 120 and 140 hp are offered, as well as a 2.0-liter diesel engine, available in three power options: 110, 130 and 165 hp. With. There are two transmissions to choose from: six-speed manual or automatic.

FlexRide's intelligent adaptive system remains unique in the minivan segment. It automatically adapts to road conditions, speed, vehicle movement patterns and driving style, and ensures maximum directional stability. The system offers three settings: a balanced Standard mode, a comfortable Tour mode and a Sport mode for active drivers.

Safety equipment meets modern requirements: airbags and curtains, 3-point belts with pretensioners, front seats with active head restraints. And also the optional Side Blind Spot Alert system - plus electronics that can anticipate a likely collision (millimeter radar in the front) and take measures to mitigate the consequences. Up to emergency braking - before the driver reacts. And I must say, impact tests using the EuroNCAP method confirmed the highest expectations: the Zafira Tourer earned all 5 stars.

The Opel Zafira Tourer features the second generation Opel Eye vision system with a front camera for the first time. This system continues to feature Lane Departure Warning (LDW), while Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR) has been improved and significantly expanded.

Thanks to the improvements carried out by Opel designers, the multifunctional interior of the Opel Zafira 2011 has turned into an oasis of comfort, a place to relax, have a good time, enjoy comfort and space - whether on a business trip or a long trip with friends.
