BMW X5 E70 what is the tire pressure. Tire pressure monitoring system. Wheel and tire parameters for this version

Attention!

The RDC system cannot warn of sudden and severe tire damage or rupture due to external factors.

Tire Pressure Control (RDC) or Tire Damage Assist (RPA) monitors the pressure in all four wheels while the vehicle is in motion. When one or more tires lose pressure, an indicator light on the instrument panel will illuminate to indicate that the tire(s) have noticeably lost pressure. The pressure standards (1 bar = 1 kgf/cm2) of air in the tires are given in the plate attached to the end of the driver's door (Fig. 1.58) and are indicated at normal temperature for the tires. recommended by BMW.

When driving with a trailer, you must rely on the figures given for the maximum loaded vehicle.

When checking the tire pressure, do not forget about the spare or compact wheel; the pressure in it should be 4.2 bar. Checking the tire pressure should be carried out some time after it has been adjusted to allow the processes in the pumped air to take place.

Attention!

Tire pressure should be checked regularly at least twice a month, and each time before a long trip.

When installing tires of a different size and brand, the pressure may not correspond to the table value. The compact wheel does not have an RDC sensor.

Incorrect tire pressure negatively affects vehicle handling and increases the risk of tire damage. shortens their service life and may cause an accident. In order to be able to remember the correct pressure values, it is necessary to check the air pressure in the tires of all wheels using an instrument (pressure gauge) and compare them with the table values and, if necessary, adjust it. The RDC system can now be turned on. The RDC system must be turned on in the following order:

  • check and adjust tire pressure;
  • turn the ignition key to position “2”, start the engine, but do not move;
  • press the button (Fig. 1.59) and keep it pressed until the system indicator lights up yellow on the instrument panel for a few seconds;
  • start moving.

Release the key. A few minutes after you start driving, the RDC system will remember the tire pressure readings and take it as the program value.

If the tire pressure has been adjusted, it is necessary to repeat the procedure for storing it by the RDC system, and so the system turns on automatically when the ignition key is set to position “2” and the system is always in working condition while driving.

If the pressure in one or more tires is low, the yellow indicator light on the instrument panel will illuminate and the message “Check Tire Pressure” will appear on the Check Tire Pressure display.

Sometimes the requirement to check the pressure appears soon after it has been adjusted. This means that when adjusting the tire pressure, the tires were overinflated or underinflated. It is necessary to check the pressure again, bring it to normal and turn on the RDC system again.

If a tire becomes damaged (sudden loss of pressure), the yellow indicator light on the instrument panel lights up, the message “Tyre Defect” appears on the Check Control System display and an audible alarm sounds.

In such circumstances it is necessary:

  • take your foot off the gas pedal;
  • if road conditions allow, do not use the brake pedal or use it extremely carefully;
  • steer the car, avoiding sudden movements of the steering wheel;
  • slow down until the car comes to a complete stop;
  • replace the damaged wheel.

It is important to remember that the RDC system may experience interference from other systems and devices operating on its frequency. During interference, the yellow indicator on the instrument panel lights up and the message “Tyre Control Inactive” appears on the display of the automatic diagnostic system. Similar information is received:

  • in case of problems in the system;
  • if one of the wheels does not have an RDC system unit;
  • if the car has other wheels with an RDC system unit, not counting the spare wheel;
  • after using non-standard units of the RDC system (information exchange on a different frequency) on wheels. Memorizing new identification numbers takes several minutes, only after which the system is able to respond to a drop in tire pressure and notify about it.

It is recommended to adjust the pressure in the wheels of a BMW car at least once every two to three months. If this rule is not followed, the car may drive worse, and it is also possible to get problems such as:

  • At very low pressure, the edges of the tires wear out greatly. There is also a high risk of damage to the rim and sidewall of the tire, especially under full load or high speeds.
  • At high pressures Only the central part of the tread begins to wear out. The load on the car's suspension increases and the car becomes stiffer. The braking distance increases and road grip deteriorates.

ATTENTION! It is necessary to adjust the pressure in BMW tires only when the tires are “cold”, i.e. when the car did not move for several hours. Otherwise, when the tires “cool”, the pressure in them will decrease, and the adjustment will have to be done again.

The BMW X5 is the first full-fledged SUV of the German brand, designed to travel on any type of road. The SUV was introduced to the European market in 2000, and its main competitors were the German Porsche Cayenne, Volkswagen Touareg and the Japanese Infiniti FX.

Compared to its classmates, the BMW X5 demonstrates impressive dynamics and better handling thanks to the xDrive system. But this SUV cannot be classified as an economical model. Nevertheless, the car enjoys unprecedented popularity. In 2010, it was recognized as "Luxury SUV of the Year."

Among Russians, the BMW X5 remains the most popular used SUV. In addition, it regularly finds itself in the top 3 most stolen cars. Moreover, the model is usually kidnapped “to order”.

The premiere of the first BMW X5 SUV (E53) took place in 1999 in Detroit. It was no coincidence that the German brand chose America as a show location - large cars have always been very popular here. The model arrived in Europe a year later. Since the manufacturer owned the Range Rover brands, some of the components of this company’s products “migrated” to the BMW X5. Thus, the developers borrowed the Off-road engine control system and the Hill Descent system. Some elements were taken from the BMW E39 fifth series. The letter “X” meant the presence of all-wheel drive, the number “5” meant the base from the 5th series.

Unlike other SUVs, the car received a monocoque body and a bright design. The impressive radiator grille, designed in the style familiar to BMW models, immediately attracted attention. The body of the model turned out to be both sporty and luxurious. The picture was complemented by a hood with three protruding lines and small foglights. The back door was made into double doors. Despite the large volume of the trunk, it was difficult to place large items there.

The interior of the BMW X5 E53 amazed with luxury and luxury comfort. The decoration used natural wood inserts and leather. Many settings for the seats and steering wheel provided maximum comfort for the driver and passengers. Due to the high seating position, good visibility and excellent safety were achieved.

The list of standard equipment of the model included side and front airbags, climate control, heated seats for all seats, a rain sensor, a CD audio system, an electric glass sunroof, xenon headlights and headlight washers. The SUV received an independent suspension.

The BMW X5 E53 was offered in the following modifications:

  1. 4.4-liter V8 petrol unit made of aluminum (286 hp), complemented by a 5-speed Steptronic gearbox.
  2. 3-liter inline six (231 hp) with a 5-speed Steptronic gearbox. This version has become the most popular in Russia.
  3. 2.9-liter diesel (184 hp) with a similar transmission.

Generation 2

In 2006, the German automaker presented the second generation of the BMW X5 (E70) in Paris. The SUV has significantly increased in size and received a more aggressive body design. The silhouette of the model retained its usual proportions, and the lower part of the body was additionally protected by a massive body kit made of black plastic. The surfaces of the model were made more sculptural and plastic. As before, the expressive radiator grille and original headlights attracted attention. Air intakes, highlighted with contrasting material, appeared at the edges of the front bumper. In terms of aerodynamics, the model became the best in class.

By increasing the length by 200 mm, the interior of the BMW X5 E70 has grown noticeably. This allowed rear passengers to feel more comfortable or accommodate a 3rd row of seats. The interior itself has become more comfortable and conservative. The manufacturer has updated the dashboard. The car received an AdaptiveDrive system, which constantly analyzes many characteristics through which the shock absorbers are controlled.

As an option, a unique Head-Up system has appeared - projecting information onto the windshield. The driver could see all the important data right in front of him.

The range of power units has also been updated. The base for the model was a 3-liter V6 unit (272 hp). Also available were a 4.8-liter V8 engine (355 hp), a 3.5-liter engine (286 hp) and a 3-liter diesel engine (235 hp). All versions had all-wheel drive and were equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Generation 2 Restyling

In 2010, the BMW X5 E70 was restyled. The creators tried to make the most successful SUV even better. There were no major changes in the appearance of the model. The car received larger air intakes, a slightly modified bumper, a new grille and redesigned headlights and taillights. The new rings of LEDs installed around the headlights looked especially impressive. The transformations made the SUV more dynamic, but retained its elegance. New rims completed the picture.

The changes practically did not affect the interior. Among the additions, cup holders should be highlighted.

The main changes took place under the hood. All engines of the restyled BMW X5 E70 have become more powerful and more economical. The buyer was offered modifications with a basic 3.5-liter “six” (306 hp) and turbodiesel 3- and 4-liter units (245 and 306 hp). More top-end versions with a 4.4-liter gasoline engine (408 hp) and a 4.4-liter turbodiesel (381 hp) were also available.

Generation 3

In September 2013, the premiere of the 3rd generation BMW X5 (F15) took place. The model's platform has not changed, but the car has become slightly lower and wider. All improvements were reduced to geometry. The characteristic features of the new SUV include a bumper with a clearly defined geometric design and narrower optics. The hood of the model became longer, and the “family nostrils” stopped falling back (they were positioned vertically). The 3-dimensional rear lights and front air intakes have changed. A dynamic line appeared on the side, running along the door handles and a slot on the front “wings”. The appearance of the SUV has become more modern. The BMW X5 F15 was offered in 2 design lines: Design Pure Excellence (body-colored lining, black “nostrils” and chrome front) and Design Pure Experience (unpainted edging of the arches and silver radiator trims).

The interior of the model has become more spacious, the trunk volume has increased to 650 liters. The interior was given a special chic thanks to contrasting inserts. The main iDrive display has grown to 10.25 inches (it was placed above the center console). The control unit was installed to the right of the gearbox selector.
