I needed a car that could satisfy a number of criteria, namely comfort, design, dynamics. I chose from crossovers, but German cars aroused great suspicion about their reliability and expensive maintenance, so attention shifted towards Japanese, American counterparts. From the "Japanese" I could not find anything worthwhile, so it was decided to acquire a Cadillac SRIX.

At the time of purchase, the mileage was only 35 thousand kilometers. Personal exploitation increased it to 80 thousand. In general, the crossover pleased me. Over the next two years, the crossover managed to become one of the best-selling cars in its class and was twice nominated for the title of "Car of the Year". The second generation was based on the Provoq concept car, which in turn is based on an all-wheel drive platform called the GM Theta Premium. In the spring of 2012, GM announced its intention to update the Cadillac, resulting in a restyled version of the SRX crossover a year later.

The new Cadillac SRX has been transformed both outside and inside. Features of technical equipment deserve a separate article, so we will have to dwell on the main differences between the third generation of the crossover from GM.

Exterior Cadillac SRX

Externally, the crossover is still monolithic and aggressive. Faceted slots on the huge false radiator grille are now dressed in chrome, in the very center flaunts a large company emblem. The front and rear bumpers are smoother and more expressive. Now the front flaunts a compact air intake slot, on the sides of which there are fog lamps in a chrome edging. Light-alloy aluminum wheels with a diameter of 20 inches have also been transformed.

On the side, the Cadillac stands out with its large arches and air intakes on the front fenders, which, by the way, now have their own illumination. The roof is slightly sloping and domed. The doors have a high sill line and fairly compact glass. Below the crossover is covered with black plastic protection. The body has also acquired another color option - Xenon Blue Metallic.

The crossover image is complemented by large vertical headlights with adaptive bi-xenon and navigation lights. From the front, the Cadillac SRX looks not only brutal, but assertive, even harsh. The crossover dimensions are 4837 mm long, 1910 mm wide, and 1669 mm high with 179 mm of ground clearance.

The interior of the Cadillac has changed much more. He is solid as before and looks very expensive. The center console freshened up, a large multifunction display with USB ports and an SD card slot appeared on the dashboard. The steering wheel is now heated. There are also control buttons for the CUE information system, which is installed on the center console. The system allows you to configure an audio system with Bose acoustics (with eight speakers) or Bose 5.1 for 10 speakers, adjust climate control. The CUE is also equipped with navigation and displays the picture from the rear view camera.

The driver's seat will comfortably accommodate a person of almost any size. All adjustments and settings are at arm's length, everything is located ergonomically and comfortably. The steering column can be adjusted in depth and height, and you can even adjust the pedal assembly. The driver's seat has eight-way adjustment (with dual memory), an adjustable lumbar support, heating and even ventilation, though only in the most top-end trim levels. Heating is optionally available for the second row of seats.

I would especially like to note the soundproofing of the Cadillac. Both modern soundproof materials and multilayer glass units are used here. A system of structural barriers is located between the rows of seats, which prevent noise from under the car from entering the cabin.

In the second row of seats, American style is comfortable and spacious, even three of us can sit quite comfortably. If desired, you can order a panoramic roof with electric drives for the sunroof and sunblind. However, this solution is suitable only for true connoisseurs of comfort. There are many options for interior trim, so choosing a color and material "for yourself" is not difficult.

The cargo compartment of the Cadillac SRX has a volume of 844 liters, and with the rear seats folded down, this figure rises to 1,730 liters. The tailgate is equipped with an electric drive, and its opening angle can be changed.

In Russia, there are two engine options for the Cadillac SRX. The base engine has a volume of 3 liters and produces up to 272 horsepower. This V-six peaks at 7000 rpm and has excellent acceleration dynamics. After re-styling, the engine became somewhat more economical and not as whimsical to the quality of gasoline as it was before.

According to official figures, fuel consumption in the city is about 13.6 liters, on the highway - 8.6 liters, and in the combined cycle - about 11.2 liters. The maximum speed with such an engine is limited to 210 km / h, acceleration to 100 takes only 8.5 seconds. This year the engine was slightly derated (power reduced to 249 horses) while maintaining the same torque. This was done to reduce the tax burden, which, to be sure, was too big even for the owners of Cadillacs.

Another engine option for Russia is a 3.6-liter V-shaped petrol six. The motor produces a whopping 318 horsepower at 6800 rpm. At 2400 rpm, a torque of 360 Nm is achieved. Not surprisingly, with such data, the crossover is very, very dynamic: it accelerates to a hundred in 8.1 seconds, despite the fact that the mass of the SRX is two and a half tons. Fuel consumption naturally increased to 16.3 liters in the city, 8.8 liters on the highway and 11.5 liters in mixed mode.

The Cadillac SRX is equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission with an all-wheel drive system and the ability to manually shift. Sport mode is also possible. All-wheel drive, by the way, began to distribute torque in a different way and is now supplemented with a self-locking differential.

The engineers did not change the suspension. There is still the same MacPherson strut in the front and a multi-link design in the back. The suspension adapts to road conditions and is completely independent. All wheels are equipped with ventilated brake discs with drying and a warning system. The braking system is complemented by a variety of electronic assistants such as ABS (4-channel, among other things), BAS, TRC, electric parking brake. The Cadillac is equipped with a power steering with a variable coefficient of effort.

Safety in the new SRX is top notch. In addition to the standard front airbags, here we will find side airbags and side curtain airbags that also protect rear passengers. All seat belts are three-point, door locks are programmable.

The Cadillac SRX is available in 2 trim levels: Base and Top. The price of the basic configuration starts from 2,059,000 rubles. For this money, you get a crossover with a 249-horsepower engine, dual-zone climate control, CUE system, Bose acoustics, four-wheel drive and independent suspension. Finishing, as already mentioned, is only of high quality, so you should not worry about comfort: although the equipment is basic, the crossover is premium.

But the top-end equipment is charged to the maximum. There is a choice of both petrol engines. Many useful options have been added to the Base equipment, here are just a few of them: three-zone climate control, leather trim, keyless entry system, navigation in Russian, rear seat entertainment system and many others. The interior of the SRX is, of course, angular, but this angularity is even elegant and masculine in its own way. The dashboard has a new display that can display up to three different indicators at the same time. The sensor, however, is somewhat thoughtful, but an outdated processor is to blame for this. The center console has also become a touchscreen, from which climate control and seat ventilation are set.

There is enough space inside the Cadillac, you can get settled as you like. The seats have good lateral support, which is very useful for energetic cornering. Roomy and in the rear seats, there is plenty of room in front of the knees. The backrests of the front seats are equipped with monitors of the entertainment system, there is a climate control unit. Acoustics Bose, by the way, besides its main task, is also engaged in active noise cancellation, so that extraneous sounds in the cabin are almost inaudible.

The engine of the Cadillac is powerful enough, but this power is somewhat "eaten up" by a not too quick "automatic". Even in Sport mode, the gearbox hesitates for a long time before upshifting. But when the gear is up, the car gets excellent acceleration, clearly not feeling the lack of power. The SRX's handling is also great. The independent suspension confidently enters the corners and perfectly keeps the trajectory, which is very strange for American cars prone to "roll". The unevenness of the road is smoothed out well, the grain of the asphalt is not felt at all, but significant irregularities are still felt in the cabin, but this is not particularly annoying.

What happened in the end? GM presented us with a solid crossover with excellent suspension, powerful engine and decent handling. If you get used to the slowdown sensors, then the Cadillac will not have any drawbacks at all, so we hope that in the future this drawback will be eliminated. Restyling, as you can see, is only good for the American car. The latest improvement, for example, brought many additional options and systems that not all classmates have. It is also nice that, on average, the Cadillac SRX is cheaper than its competitors from the big German three by about half a million.

Competitors

It just so happened that when choosing a Cadillac, buyers often compare it with another premium crossover - the Lexus RX 350. Although the cars are similar, they are designed to satisfy different needs, which we will talk about later. The exterior of the crossovers is clearly contrasted: a rectangular and chiseled Cadillac versus a rounded and smoothed Lexus. Vertical headlamp covers versus traditional horizontal lighting technology. It's a matter of taste, nothing can be done about it. On the other hand, almost everyone admits that the SRX's profile looks fresher and more muscular than the competition.

The Lexus salon literally breathes luxury and sophistication, it's hard to even imagine who might be uncomfortable here. Here, even on the screen of the multimedia system, there are no fingerprints left, so from this alone you can get an impression of the quality of the interior design of the crossover. With the Cadillac, things are a little different again. We've already talked about the overall refinement and interior space of the SRX, so you can imagine its contrast to the sophistication of the Lexus. The Cadillac also does not lack comfort and convenience, and for long trips, the crossover from GM is no less convenient than the Lexus. However, the RX leather trim looks more expensive, and the driver's seat has a fully electronic adjustment and more settings. So, in Lexus, the front seats can be cooled and heated.

The Cadillac is generally cheaper than the Lexus, which is undoubtedly a plus, but even with all the additional options, the SRX will not be more comfortable than the RX 350.

The Lexus engine is somewhat more powerful and has more torque, while being somewhat more economical and environmentally friendly than the power plants on the Cadillac. The Lexus rides faster and accelerates out of corners more actively, and the suspension feels less bumpy. But going through a series of turns and generally driving on the highway is more interesting in a Cadillac. You will always stand out from the stream of cars while maintaining dynamics and passion.

Oddly enough, the Lexus looks too perfect, so someone might like the drive from driving a Cadillac. The pleasant ratio of ride and dynamics of control conceal the flaws in the exterior, and the filling of the SRX, whatever you say, is simply great.
