At the Gorky Automobile Plant, the production of light trucks began in the mid-nineties of the last century. For the transportation of small consignments, the Sobol was developed - a machine that is compact and economical. Serial production of this car started in 1999.

The car was based on a van with an all-metal body GAZ-2752. "Sobol" is a machine with a carrying capacity of nine hundred kilograms, it can move in places where there is a restriction on the passage of vehicles with a load of more than one ton. Maneuverability, compactness and ergonomics of the car contribute to its smooth passage even through the tightest streets.
The modernization of the equipment in question after 2003 was carried out twice. Modification "Business" meets all modern standards in terms of comfort, equipment and ecology. The car is presented in several body types:
- Triple version with a load capacity of 750-900 kg.
- Sample with seven places and the possibility of transporting cargo up to 800 kilograms.
Both models can be equipped with all-wheel drive or rear axle drive. Power plants - gasoline or diesel engines. The luggage compartment is separated by a blank partition, hinged doors open to the sides at an angle of 180 degrees.
Version 4x4
Consider the characteristics of the all-wheel drive car "Sobol". The car, the photo of which is presented above, is characterized by increased cross-country ability. Since 2003, a restyled version has been produced, equipped with a ZMZ-405 injection engine or a 2.9-liter Ulyanovsk “engine”. In 2010, a new series of cars of this class was released with a Cummins diesel power unit with a turbine and a volume of 2.8 liters.
The advantages of the 4x4 modification include the following aspects:
- improved permeability;
- good maneuverability;
- hydraulic power steering as standard;
- compactness and increased ground clearance.
The machine is equipped with permanent all-wheel drive, a transfer unit with a pair of gears, and a rigid suspension. Despite the fact that the ride of an empty car cannot be called soft, it passes through potholes and pits without problems and without the risk that the ball elements may fail.
Advantages and disadvantages of the modification "Business"
Consider the advantages of the Business Sobol models. The car (the photo inside the cabin is presented below) is in demand among entrepreneurs of various sizes. Despite a number of shortcomings, the car has the following advantages:
- has a low cost;
- equipment is unpretentious in maintenance and repair;
- the modification is equipped with an updated grille and modified bumpers;
- upgraded heating and air conditioning system;
- improved switches under the steering wheel;
- the audio installation and dashboard have undergone changes.
Some Sobol models received a Chinese engine, which has good performance and a long service life (mileage - about half a million kilometers without major repairs).

Factory defects
The first modifications of the series under consideration had a number of design flaws, which were identified and eliminated in subsequent variations. Among the existing problems are the following:
- unreliable seals through which oil flows;
- impractical transfer case, often requiring repair;
- decent fuel consumption (especially on engines from the Ulyanovsk manufacturer);
- problems with thermostats and electrical system.
Some shortcomings were solved thanks to the installation of the Chinese Cummins engine on the Sobol. The car, the photo of which is presented below, has become more economical, the motor does not overheat, and has good dynamics. Despite all the efforts of the developers, the “chronic disease” of the models under consideration, expressed in the appearance of extraneous noise and whistling at speeds above 100 km / h, has remained.

GAZ, Gorky Automobile Plant (GAZ), a Russian company that manufactures passenger cars of the Volga and Chaika brands, as well as trucks. The headquarters is located in Nizhny Novgorod (until 1991 it was called Gorky).
GAZ is one of the largest Russian (before the collapse of the USSR - Soviet) enterprises of the automotive industry. The emblem of the plant, adopted in 1950, repeats a part of the ancient coat of arms of Nizhny Novgorod with a prancing deer. The details of the emblem have varied over the years.
The plant was commissioned on January 1, 1932, and in the same year the first 1.5-ton GAZ-AA truck and GAZ-A passenger car rolled off its assembly line. In the pre-war years, two models of passenger cars were created at the plant: GAZ-1 (colloquially "emka") and "Pickup". During the Great Patriotic War, the work of the enterprise was entirely subordinated to the needs of the front.
After the end of the war, the plant began to work on the creation of new models of passenger cars. The famous "Victory" GAZ-20 (engine power 50 hp, speed 105 km / h), as well as GAZ-12 and GAZ-69, appeared first.
1956 marked a new stage in the development of the plant - the Volga GAZ-21 replaced the Pobeda. And since 1959, the production of a more modern and comfortable Chaika GAZ-13 model with a 150 hp engine began. (in subsequent years, the power of the GAZ14 model reached 220 hp).
In 1969, instead of the old Volga, the production of the new GAZ-24 model was mastered.
After the collapse of the Soviet Union, GAZ was one of the first to adapt to new market conditions.
In the early 90s, the 3102 model was created, equipped with a 100 hp engine, and in 1997, factory engineers, having subjected it to a constructive update, developed the modern Volga-3110 base model with an 100-150 hp engine.
