The best-selling class of cars on the local market are the B-segment models. Due to the current financial situation, the prices of most of them have increased. And yet there are very inexpensive options. One of these is ZAZ-Forza. Further, the history, technical parameters of this car and its place in the market are considered.

Story

First of all, it should be noted that this car is a version of Chery A-13, so you should consider the features of this car.

The A-13 is a class B subcompact model. It has been in production since 2008. Based on the Chery Amulet, which is based on the Seat Toledo platform developed in the early 90s. of the past century. For the creation of the design, the manufacturer turned to the bodywork studio Torino Design.

The production of a car in Ukraine under the name "ZAZ-Forza" began in 2010. It was originally planned that it would become the successor to the ZAZ Sens / Chance, but in fact, Forza replaced the discontinued Opel Astra G.

The car in question is technically identical to the A-13 and differs only in some equipment features.

Body

This model has two body styles: liftback and 5-door hatchback.

The dimensions of the first are 4.269 m long, 1.686 m wide and 1.492 m high, the wheelbase is 2.527 m.

"ZAZ-Forza" hatchback is a little more compact. Its length is 4.139 m. The rest of the overall parameters are the same.

The curb weight of the car in both versions is 1.2 tons.

Engine

Forza has a single ACTECO SQR477F engine, which was developed in collaboration with AVL. It is a 4-cylinder power unit with a volume of 1.5 liters. Its power is 109 hp. with., torque - 140 Nm.

Transmission

The only engine is also equipped with only one gearbox. This is a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Front drive.

Chassis

The following Comfort equipment is additionally equipped with such equipment as ABS with EBD, electric driver's seat, passenger airbag, power mirrors, rear power windows, MP3 audio system with USB and 4 speakers, front fog lights.

The maximum version of Luxury, in addition to the above, has alloy wheels, an audio system with 6 speakers, parking sensors.

The car is equipped with a 1.5-liter SQR477F engine, as well as a QR515MHA manual transmission, developed on the basis of the latest technology. The SQR477F engine is a vertical, water-cooled, four-cylinder, in-line, four-stroke, single-camshaft, electronic multipoint fuel injection. The SQR477F engine has ideal performance and a robust design, particularly in terms of exhaust emissions and noise levels. When assembling and maintaining the engine, the guidelines given in this manual must be followed, as failure to do so may result in malfunction or even damage to the engine. The SQR477F engine is distinguished by the presence of four valves in each of the cylinders, namely: each cylinder is equipped with two intake and two exhaust valves. The intake valve head has a larger area than the exhaust valve head.

Disconnect components and parts of vehicle systems. Drain the oil from the engine crankcase and gearbox crankcase.

Install the trolley under the power unit. Loosen subframe mounting bolts (1), (2). Unscrew the bolts securing the front beam of the power unit (3). Unscrew the bolts securing the radiator beam (4).

Install the trolley with the power unit, subframe, front beam on the lift. Raise with a lift until the silent blocks of the subframe and the front beam are aligned with the holes in the body brackets and fix:

  • radiator beam with bolts (4), Mcr. = 45 N*m (40-50 N*m);
  • front beam of the power unit with bolts (3), Mcr. = 130 N * m (120-140 N * m).

Loosen the cylinder head cover bolts using a 10 socket wrench. Remove the cylinder head cover.

Unscrew the two bolts from the top cover of the gas distribution mechanism. Remove the top cover of the gas distribution mechanism. Remove the lower timing cover with seals.

I prepared for the worst. Because the curvaceous silhouette of the Forza with its long muzzle, short stern and disproportionately narrow side windows involuntarily recalls dozens of equally unsightly Chinese cars with smelly interior plastic and a complete unwillingness to find at least some mutual understanding with the driver.

There were no surprises.

It all starts with the ignition key. It is "European", with a folding sting - like on Volkswagen and Audi cars. Pressed one button - the door locks were unlocked. I pressed another one - the electric lock of the trunk clicked.

First of all, I pulled the trunk lid: it went up along with the rear window. It turns out that this is not a sedan at all, but a liftback - like Amulet and Slavuta.

The interior is unadorned. The slippery steering wheel is adjustable only for the angle of inclination. Salon and exterior mirrors are devoid of diopter zones and provide excellent visibility to the rear. Instead of door handles - plastic pockets. The power window control unit is "copied" from Volkswagen. If you lower the sun visor, then it will block almost half the windshield in height

The trunk is not the most capacious - only 370l. If you fold the one-piece rear seat, 1400 liters of free space are already formed - quite enough even for inveterate summer residents. But before loading bags of potatoes, you will have to cover the neat pile upholstery with a film, which for some reason does not bulge and does not fall into the recesses of the bottom, as is customary on VAZ front-wheel drive cars.

Sticking my head into the cabin, I instinctively grimaced, but I couldn't smell the nasty, acidic smell of cheap plastic. Progress! Although the plastic here is really cheap, hard and "voiced". Fortunately, the Chinese had the prudence to abandon interior experiments: everything is in the usual places, and only blood-red instruments with unusually small dials stand out from the general ensemble.

Light doors slam shut with a Zhiguli rattle. There are plenty of “stocks”, but unpretentious buyers will surely turn a blind eye to them. For example, all doors have only a single seal "in a circle": in winter, the thresholds will be dirty. Only the front wheel arches are covered with plastic fenders, and behind the snow porridge and sand from under the wheels drum on metal. "Wipers" hack and do not clean the windshield from above and to the left. And the front seats are set too high: tall drivers will have to put up with the fact that a sun visor hangs over their eyes, and the left windshield pillar “cuts” the viewing sector a lot.

There are also specific solutions. If you turn off the engine and leave the parking lights on, then after a few minutes they will go out: the electronics are struggling with "unauthorized" energy consumers. This means that you can only leave the car on the side of the road with an emergency gang.

The sound of the head unit is such that I preferred to hum the songs myself - although I have neither hearing nor voice. One and a half liter 109-horsepower engine can be shouted down only when driving slowly, when the tachometer needle does not reach 3000 rpm. You can “turn” the engine further, but the effect is the same as on Kalina and Logan: the noise grows faster than the speed. It’s better to change gears more often, especially since the five-speed gearbox shift mechanism works no worse than on Logan and definitely better than on Kalina.

It feels like acceleration to “hundreds” takes “in the limit” no more than 13-14 seconds, but this is a visual and sound deception. After all, the lighter the car, the louder the engine howls during acceleration, the louder the suspension work - the brighter the impression. Passport data is dotted over the "i": up to "hundreds" - in 16 seconds.

The rack and pinion steering equipped with a hydraulic booster does not shine with information content in the near-zero zone - and this makes Fortsa related to many budget cars. But at the same time, it reliably goes along a high-speed straight line, allows you to confidently rebuild in a dense stream and boldly flies into sharp turns. I overdid it a little with the speed on the bend - and Forza crawled outward with her muzzle. I let off the gas - and it smoothly screwed into the turn. Everything is smooth, clear and without tricks.

Suspension in terms of energy intensity, of course, is far from both Kalina and Logan. But there is no excessive rigidity either. And the rattles of the suspension joints (McPherson struts in front and torsion beam in the back) do not go beyond the acceptable background.

The brakes surprised me with a good pedal setting: minimum idle and precise dosing of deceleration. But with the ABS came the embarrassment. On wet pavement at a temperature of +5 ° C, the wheels are blocked - and I instinctively pulled my leg so as not to disfigure the tires. Another race, another... The wheels are blocked! I open the hood: there is an ABS block. Maybe a glitch in the software? Colleagues advised: “Press the pedal and wait!” Acceleration again, a sharp blow to the brake pedal - and after a noticeable “skid”, the ABS finally chirped! And what will happen on packed snow or on bare ice?

Forza is not a small car. Length - 4269 mm, wheelbase-2527 mm. But I sit in the back seat “by myself” with almost no gap: my knees touch the back of the front seat. And the three of us are completely cramped - it presses on the shoulders. Everything, as in Kalina.

What about the microclimate? Air conditioning is included in the basic package. The nozzles of the ventilation system located on the front panel are equipped with comfortable “Volkswagen” blinds, and air ducts are laid to the feet of the rear passengers. But here the handle for distributing air flows is already stuck and turns only half of its stroke. Flaws of the Zaporozhye assembly?


And what zealous buyer does not look at the car "under the belly"? I also knelt down and even grabbed a tape measure: the ground clearance under the engine is only 14 cm. Moreover, the exhaust system turned out to be the lowest point, which will “plow” both rural ruts and snow growths in city yards.

The reason is that the engine on Forza is located in Toyota style - with the exhaust manifold forward. And the Chinese did not come up with anything better than to pass the exhaust pipe under the crankcase - that's why it turned out to be the lowest and most vulnerable place. And how vulnerable! A long branch pipe is rigidly (without a transitional corrugation) screwed to the exhaust manifold - and the very first hit on a curb or stone will lead to sad consequences.

The bribes from the Chinese are smooth: they build new roads for thousands of kilometers and are firmly convinced that in other countries they are diligently engaged in an equally useful business. And what should we do? Theoretically, steel protection can be attached from below (although there are no standard mounting holes for it) - but what will be the clearance then?


In tight corners, Forza rolls heavily and lifts the rear wheel into the air, but it rides surprisingly stable and understandable, slightly screwing into the turn under the gas release

It is a pity that floor scales are not included in the tool kit - they would be useful. According to the instructions, the carrying capacity of the machine is only 375kg. This is enough for the Chinese, but we will be bigger: according to the norms, the weight of one person is taken to be 75 kg. This means that, having sat down in the car with five of us (5x75 = 375), you will no longer be able to take a single kilogram of cargo with you. And the same Logan takes on board 500 kg.

However, let's put aside the design, ergonomics, trunk volume, handling, fuel consumption and other "general car values". Reliability - that's what primarily interests the "pepper" buyer of an inexpensive car. Reliability and price. What's the use of the fact that Tavria was cheaper than a motorcycle? Is it a car? At one time, I dashed off more than 60 thousand km on the ZAZ-1105 Dana station wagon. It was a terrible year. I struggled with leaking window seals, struggled with starting the engine in the winter, and soldered corroded starter power wires. I learned how to assemble one working generator from three dead generators, changed the clutch, repaired door locks and power windows, endlessly cleaned and adjusted the carburetor - the list of problems exceeded all conceivable boundaries! Finally, twice I almost burned alive: the first time right in the MREO during the registration of the car (the gas tank turned out to be full of holes), and the second time at a speed of about 100 km / h, when the plug unscrewed from the carburetor and gasoline flowed like a river on the engine.

What about Forza? The operating instructions say that the resource of the machine is 300 thousand km. Will she last that long? How soon servicemen will study all her sores? And how long "in which case" will have to wait for spare parts? Cat in a bag.

If we evaluate the "constructive" quality, then we must admit: the Chinese have taken a serious step forward. And it doesn't matter that this step was helped by the blatant theft of other people's ideas and the selfless help of European specialists. The result is important. Forza is nicer than the bored Lanos both externally and in terms of interior trim, and in terms of driving properties, perhaps, no worse. She replays Kalina in terms of equipment level, easily competes with her in terms of the quality of materials and loses only in cross-country ability and smoothness. She will give way to the Romanian Logan in terms of space in the back seat, in terms of trunk volume, in terms of carrying capacity and in terms of energy intensity of the suspension, but, again, Forza is no worse in terms of interior decoration.


The underhood space is organized very neatly. According to its characteristics, the 109-horsepower engine is reminiscent of the Kalina engine: noisy, sluggish at medium and high speeds, but responsive “on the pedal” and high-torque “on the bottoms” - in fifth gear, Forza willingly drives from 50 km / h

Forza is one of the best cars with Chinese ancestry that we have come across in our hands. In some ways, it is even better than the Chery M11 that we liked (see AR No. 14-15, 2010). And it is absolutely indisputable that Forza is better than Tavria and Slavuta - in all respects. But to say that Forza replaced Slavuta can only be in the "production" sense of the word, but not in the market sense. If the most expensive Slavuta cost about 40,000 hryvnias, then the Forza that we visited in the Comfort package is sold for 83,900 hryvnias (about $10,500). Replacement? With the same success it can be considered that a biscuit cake replaces a loaf of bread.

The price of Fortsu "begins" where the prices of the most expensive Lanos "end". In this sense, the marketers of UkrAvto worked very well, pushing Forza into a narrow price niche between Lanos (UAH 69,600-80,160) and Chevrolet Aveo (UAH 92,960-104,640). So, Fort should be compared not with Slavuta and not even with Lanos, but with more expensive cars. Which we will do as soon as possible.

The car was originally intended to be the successor to the ZAZ Chance/Sens, but in production the car served as a successor to the discontinued "Opel Astra G OTGF69". ZAZ Forza is a class B car. Presented in the budget segment. Manufacturers advertise it with big words: bright design, powerful "heart", high-quality details. But is it really so? Let's figure it out.

Driver reviews are different. There are some positive ones, but there are also some downright negative ones. Of course, a cheap car has its drawbacks, but they are covered by a low cost. The buyer will have to decide for himself whether he is ready to put up with them.

Briefly about the car

It is unlikely that anyone will argue that the most popular cars are representatives of the budget segment. An alternative to Chinese copies is the Forza model, produced on the Conveyor was launched in 2010. The manufacturer thought that this car would become the successor to the already familiar ZAZ Chance / Sens. But as time has shown, he filled the empty niche that was vacated after the Opel Astra G was discontinued.

The Austrian designers were engaged in the development of the model. The basis was Chery A-13. Due to the fact that the assembly was carried out at the Ukrainian plant in the city of Zaporozhye, the final cost per car turned out to be quite attractive, which made it possible to compete with such well-known models as Priora, Kalina, Grant of the Lada lineup.

Body Features

The manufacturer introduced several versions of ZAZ Forza: hatchback and sedan. As for the first type of body, its dimensions are:

The sedan has almost the same dimensions. It differs only in length. In the sedan, it is 130 mm (4269 mm) larger.

The curb weight (1275 kg) and the wheelbase (2527 mm) are the same in these cars. But the ground clearance in the sedan is greater than in the hatchback. The first clearance is 370 mm, and the second - 300 mm.

The appearance of the ZAZ Forza car can hardly be called original, since Chery A-13 was taken as the basis for this model. All the same streamlined shapes, inflated parts, a voluminous bumper, the shape of the radiator grille are already familiar to domestic drivers. However, it cannot be said that the car has not been finalized in terms of design. All the details are harmoniously combined with each other, making up a complete overall composition.

The appearance of the car is not the main selection criterion. Most drivers pay attention to technical characteristics, in particular, to the "stuffing" that is hidden under the hood. The ZAZ Forza car does not receive the best reviews regarding aerodynamic properties. Drivers believe that the power plant does not meet the manufacturer's specifications. The maximum limit of the ZAZ Forza is a speed of 160 km / h, but the drivers claim that they accelerated to no more than 130-140 km / h. As for fuel costs, this model cannot be called economical. In the city, it consumes up to 10 liters, and in the combined cycle - 7.2 liters.

Do not hit the driver and the acceleration rate. From a place, the car will pick up the first “weave”, spending almost 12 seconds.

Advantages and disadvantages

Having considered the features of the car, it's time to highlight all its advantages and disadvantages. The first ones include:

  • optimal balance between quality of materials and cost;

What did users name as disadvantages? It:

ZAZ Forza: price

This car model is considered the cheapest of those presented on the Russian market. It is worth noting that it even surpassed the legendary Lada series. Of course, in terms of demand, the latter are still in the lead, but in terms of cost, Forza is out of competition. In car dealerships, this copy is presented with a price tag from 390 to 420 thousand rubles. The choice of configuration affects the formation of cost.
