What is the resource of the Hyundai Getz 1.3 engine. Hyundai Getz: Die hard. Engine: basic chores

The appearance of the little Hyundai Getz does not make the heart beat faster, and many, passing by, do not even notice this car. However, this has its advantages for those who are not used to standing out.

Model history

The first serial Hyundai Getz was released in 2002. In addition to South Korea, the car was assembled in India, Malaysia and even Venezuela. The subcompact was offered in many markets and therefore had several names. For example, in Korea and Syria - Click, in India - Getz Prime, and in Japan - TV. In Venezuela, the baby was generally available under a false name - Dodge Brisa II.

Three years after the global production of the model gained full speed, the Koreans decided to restyling. The car received more rounded headlights, an updated grille and taillights. From that point on, the Getz model was sold unchanged until 2009, when the Hyundai i20 took its place. However, in many countries, the production of the model was still ongoing, in particular, Getz was supplied to Russia until 2011.

1.1 liter 12 valve petrol engine.

In a car of this segment, the choice of the right engine is determined, above all, by efficiency. For this reason, the base gasoline engine immediately disappears. It only seems that a small unit will save on fuel. In order to accelerate the car at least a little, you will have to “turn” the engine strongly, and this will inevitably lead to an increase in fuel consumption. And although the appetite will not be too big, it will be commensurate with the level of consumption of engines with a capacity of 1.3 and 1.4 liters.

The base 1.1-liter unit has mechanical valve clearance compensation, which requires periodic monitoring (once every 30,000 km) and complex adjustment. The 1.3-liter engine is similar in design to the base unit, but is equipped with hydraulic valve clearance compensators. Unfortunately, hydraulic lifters wear out fairly quickly, resulting in a very noisy engine immediately after starting. The 1.6-liter engine has a variable valve timing system and two camshafts in the block head. All gasoline units are equipped with a timing belt drive, which must be replaced every 60,000 km.

Is it worth considering the purchase of an "exotic" diesel modification? At today's prices and the quality of diesel fuel, this is not the most profitable solution. Diesel units of the CRDi family, especially at high mileage, are prone to malfunctions that are expensive to fix. One of the most common failures is the failure of the boost pressure sensor. But there are pluses - diesel engines are more flexible and consume less fuel - 5-7 l / 100 km. It is worth noting that the 3-cylinder unit does not differ in softness of work: it growls and vibrates strongly.

With age, in many instances, engine oil leaks through the oil sump and crankshaft oil seals. Nevertheless, there is no need to dismantle engines for serious repairs before 200-300 thousand km.

Design features

Hyundai Getz has two body types: 3-door and 5-door. The most popular, of course, are the 5-door versions. Unfortunately, many cars of the first years of production are very poorly equipped and do not even have air conditioning, ABS and power steering. The last two entered the list of serial equipment after the update in 2005.

In a car of this class, there is almost never room for a complex suspension scheme or a technologically advanced transmission. The thesis is also true for the Hyundai Getz. The front suspension is a classic MacPherson strut and the rear is a torsion beam. A choice of 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic was offered. According to the results of crash tests EuroNCAP Hyundai Getz earned 4 races.

Typical problems and malfunctions

Goetz in terms of reliability, perhaps one of the best cars in the history of the brand. But he is far from the notorious Japanese impeccability. What can fail? First of all, the suspension, which is a common thing on Russian roads. In front, the stabilizer struts and bushings, as well as silent blocks of levers, are knocked out quite quickly. Behind - shock absorbers wear out prematurely, and anthers sometimes begin to knock. Due to the separate arrangement of springs and shock absorbers, replacing the latter is cheaper and easier. With age, drum brakes can also rattle.

Getz owners complain about the unsatisfactory quality of the paintwork, which is vulnerable to the slightest scratches, and sometimes even peels off. However, thanks to the 90% galvanization of the body, there is no outbreak of an epidemic of corrosion. Things are different with the subframe and exhaust system, which often rust. In older cars, traces of corrosion can be found in the engine compartment, on the bottom, chassis and brake system elements.

Sometimes the power plant controller malfunctions or the high voltage wires fail. The rest of the shortcomings are usually minor. Problems with the central lock, tailgate lock, ABS sensors (contact oxidation) and flimsy door seals are another typical sores of this model.

The market is quite well stocked with spare parts: they are available and very cheap. Therefore, Goetz can be recommended to novice drivers. Troubleshooting and the consequences of possible accidents will be quick and easy.

Conclusion

It is quite possible to find a still young and already inexpensive Hyundai Getz on the market. In addition to an excellent price-to-age ratio, the Getz provides a decent level of comfort and a fair amount of space for its class. But, unfortunately, the car also has disadvantages, including rather poor equipment and finishing materials of not the best quality. However, the compact in terms of reliability surpasses much more reputable rivals. Thus, it is an excellent choice for people with a rational approach who need a reliable, inexpensive and practical car.

Typical faults:

1. Engine roughness is usually caused by faulty high voltage wires.

2. A loud exhaust sound occurs when the flexible connector of the exhaust pipes is worn.

3. Short-lived rear shock absorbers are easy to change and have a wide range of inexpensive replacements.

H yundai Getz was exclusively front-wheel drive, and the drive design turned out to be extremely simple. So the choice is only between automatic transmission and five-speed mechanics. And if the CV joints and drives are quite reliable here (in any case, up to runs of 200-250 thousand), then the gearboxes are all with surprises.

If you hear that Getz manual transmissions were unsuccessful only before restyling, then do not believe these stories. M5AF3 boxes are not particularly good on cars of any model year. There are no problems with the design - after all, this is the legacy of Mitsubishi with minimal changes, but the execution is lame.

Mostly bearings fail. The release bearing often begins to howl at runs of a little more than 60 thousand, and an untimely replacement is fraught not only with wear on the petals of the basket and damage to the shutdown fork, but also with damage to the box body. The next in line are the bearings of the primary and secondary shafts. On the bulk of the machines, only a hundred thousand mileage, the input shaft bearings are already noisy. The output shaft starts to make noise later, but it starts almost inevitably, so if you repair the manual transmission, then you need to change everything.

Due to oil contamination, both the differential and the gearbox gears suffer. If you delay the repair, then often there is nothing to repair: a jammed differential will break the case and the main pair.

The reason for rapid wear lies not only in the low quality of the original parts, but also in the quality of the oil seals: the box is leaking, and the oil level must be monitored both ways. Owners of cars with 1.6 and 1.4 liter engines were especially unlucky: they have their own boxes, different from boxes with Accent and other Hyundai, so spare parts are in short supply.

The only reliable way to repair the box is a bulkhead with the installation of new bearings. To reduce the cost of repairs, “second-hand” parts are often used, since the original shafts and gears are not that expensive (5-8 thousand rubles per shaft), but the price of a complete manual transmission bulkhead can easily be higher than the price of the car. The standard repair option is to install a new shaft with used gears, for example, from a more or less live Accent box. Then (in the case of 1.4 and 1.6 liter engines), everything is assembled into the old box body. Boxes for engines of 1.1 and 1.3 liters can also be left with an "accent" case. Such repairs cost 12-30 thousand rubles, which is quite acceptable for most.

In addition to problems with the manual transmission, there are troubles with its drive. It initially does not please with particular clarity, but with age, the quality of switching deteriorates due to cable stretching, breakage of the backstage ball joint latches and simply wear of the ball joint. The wear of the axis of the triangular lever of longitudinal movements and the wear of its hinges also greatly affects the clarity of switching. In advanced cases, you have to change the lever itself, since it is still supplied in spare parts and costs less than a thousand rubles.

Pictured: Hyundai Getz 5-door "2005–2010

Cables also cause a lot of trouble. Their price is quite high, about 5,000 rubles, but you can get by with a little bloodshed: basically, shock-absorbing thrust bushings in the engine compartment wear out. These parts will cost less than 500 rubles, but to replace them, you will have to remove the cables, and look for the bushings themselves in the catalogs for the Mitsubishi Lancer IX (part codes 2460A108 and 2460A109). By the way, bearings and synchronizers are also suitable from the Mitsubishi manual transmission, but which ones, experts keep at heart.

If you have the hope that the automatic transmission is more reliable than the mechanics here, then I will disappoint you. In principle, boxes of the KM family of the A4AF3 / A4BF2 series on 1.3 and 1.4 liter engines and boxes of the A4CF1 / A4CF2 series with 1.4 and 1.6 liter engines are considered quite reliable. But in practice, closer to a hundred thousand mileage, boxes of release until 2008, and especially boxes of pre-styling cars until 2006, begin to act up. More recent automatic transmissions go much longer before the first problems appear, at least 180-200 thousand kilometers, and individual copies of the boxes can feel quite normal with runs over 300.

From a constructive point of view, there are a minimum of shortcomings, and there are no obvious weak points, or they appear at high mileage. But the A4AF3 box was recycled in the process of transferring production to Hyundai facilities, and the debugging of production affected the quality. A small resource of solenoids and sensors, overheating due to a weak cooling system and associated oil leaks adversely affect the operation of the automatic transmission. It can be assumed that most of the first releases of automatic machines of all series have already undergone an average repair, at least with the repair of the valve body, and for those who like to drive “to the last”, the box has also undergone a complete overhaul.

In addition to the problems associated with a drop in oil level, oil starvation and valve body failures, there are a number of unpleasant features. For example, a weak differential and gas turbine engine blocking pads, which, with aggressive driving, can be erased to an adhesive layer after hundreds of thousands of mileage. Yes, and external oil lines have unsuccessful corroding clamps, which sometimes leads to oil leaks.

The older A4AF3 / A4BF2 boxes, which are mainly found on cars before 2007, are a legacy of Mitsubishi, produced by Hyundai.

The weak point in the mechanical part is the Shell/Kickdown drum. Under heavy loads, it breaks its splines, and the drum friction pack usually burns out first.

There are also many problems with the Direct Clutch drum. He breaks the 046 bushing, especially on pre-styling machines with an A4AF3 box, which leads to a serious oil leak, and usually the oil pump is also damaged.

With excessively active movement, the Overdrive hub bearing breaks early enough.

Typical malfunctions of the valve body - failure of valves 364420, damage to wiring and speed sensors.

Drum breakdowns, unfortunately, happen often, and with runs of about 200 thousand, they will almost certainly manifest themselves even among more or less careful drivers. The 046 bushing fails less frequently than the Shell drum, but the consequences are noticeably more expensive.

The newer automatic transmission A4CF1 / A4CF2, which appeared after 2005, began to be widely used on Getz only after 2008. Its early releases, which can be found with a 1.6-liter engine on dorestyling, cause a lot of trouble. But the versions after 2008 have practically no mechanical problems. Breakdowns of the valve body of this box and its electronics are relatively budgetary, although the box still does not differ in particular durability and trouble-free. Before a major repair with the replacement of the gas turbine engine blocking pad, most of the solenoids and the revision of the friction clutches and the pump bushing, on average, you can count on 200-250 thousand kilometers. The main mechanical problem is the early failure of the oil pump due to poor oil filtration and rare oil changes. Also regularly during operation at a standard oil change interval, the linear pressure solenoid fails. The harbinger of his replacement is the blows when turning on the D and R modes.

Pictured: Hyundai Getz 5-door "2005–2010

It is also worth checking the wiring of the solenoids, which is quite fragile here and is very afraid of vibrations (change the engine mounts and gearboxes in time). A block of shifter solenoids rarely fails completely, but the chances are still far from zero. The price, in general, is ridiculous - about 10 thousand rubles for the entire “bed”, but few people change them, and if you have already changed the linear solenoid, the wiring is intact, but there are still shocks, then check it at the stand.

To improve the operation of this box, it is worth installing an external oil filter. With him, she becomes noticeably more reliable.

The general rule is not to buy cars with automatic transmission before restyling, especially cars with a 1.6 liter engine. If you need an automatic, then look at cars with A4CF1 / A4CF2 boxes after 2008 with a 1.4 liter engine. It will be a relatively reliable and budget option.

Buying even a late version of the A4AF3 / A4BF2 automatic transmission is not a good idea. With standard runs for these cars, the box has almost certainly already been left and repaired. It is cheap to repair, but the resource until the next repair will be small even with careful maintenance.

Motors

The budget of the car had almost no effect on the quality of Getz engines. The G4E series motors were developed by Mitsubishi, and they have practically no generic problems. SOHC engines with 12-valve cylinder heads were installed mainly before restyling, 1.1-liter G4HG engines and 1.3-liter G4EH engines are rare and mostly on very old cars. After restyling, a 1.4 DOHC engine was added to the line of engines, which was a pair of a 1.6 liter engine (series 1.6 G4ED and 1.4 G4EE, respectively). These motors are very reliable.

The cast-iron block, timing belt drive, hydraulic lifters and a fairly massive piston group provide a good margin of safety for any style of operation. But the resource is not at all unlimited, and due to the design of the piston group, a small oil appetite is already present closer to a hundred thousand mileage. It greatly increases during overheating due to the death of valve stem seals and leaks in the motor seals. In addition, the crankcase ventilation system is unpretentious, which is why the engine constantly “sweats”. Usually, after 200 thousand mileage, the engine comes to a state when it is better to sort it out due to oil consumption. And if you roll another 60-70 thousand, you will have to make a full-fledged "capital" with the installation of a repair piston and a complete restoration of the cylinder head.

Pictured: Hyundai Getz 5-door "2002–2005

The belt should be replaced every 60,000 miles or even earlier. In cold regions, on 16-valve engines closer to 150-180 thousand mileage, it is imperative to replace the chain connecting the camshafts and its dampers.

hydraulic compensator

original price

535 rubles

And yet, during operation, many minor troubles can arise, and the older the motor, the more trouble. Floating speed due to a dirty throttle and idle speed controller on old engines is a common thing, they need to be washed. Dirty intake is also not uncommon. With runs of more than a hundred thousand, you may encounter a knock in the timing due to failures of hydraulic lifters, which are not entirely successful here (for lovers of budget repairs, Ina compensators from VAZ get up here). To the credit of the motors, the problem is mainly associated with a rare oil change or its poor quality.

With runs of more than a hundred, one and a half thousand kilometers, failures of coils, high-voltage wires, sensors and wiring are regularly encountered. Good reviews about reliability usually relate to cars with runs up to 100, a maximum of 150 thousand kilometers. Further, the motor is still going, but it begins to demand more and more insistent attention. Apparently, the Korean manufacturer did not particularly count on a larger resource.

Pictured: Hyundai Getz 5-door "2002–2005

After about 150 thousand mileage, it is worth seriously diagnosing the catalyst. The chances that it will begin to "dust" are quite high, and the motor will not live long after that: the already soft enough piston rings will not endure this. By the way, the motor is also very sensitive to the quality of the air filter installation, and its design allows the installer to make mistakes.

Pictured: Hyundai Getz 3-door "2005–2010

Do not chase SOHC engines: in operation, they are not cheaper than 1.4 and 1.6 liter engines, and the resource of larger engines is generally slightly higher. The difference in the repair price is insignificant, as well as the difference in the price of the contract unit.

Summary

Tempted by the low price of parts, many conclude that the Hyundai Getz will be just as cheap to run overall. But no - if in maintenance it is cheaper than other foreign cars, then not much. The problem is that the reliability of the car was characteristic mainly for low mileage. Up to 150 thousand kilometers, the car almost does not ask for investments, but then small and not very problems begin. And if cars were lucky with engines, then with manual transmission and automatic transmission produced before 2008 - not so much. Yes, and the body in our climate rots noticeably, and if you do not take decisive measures, it does it quickly enough. As a result, everything comes out not so cheap, especially if you do not do minor work with your own hands, but rely only on services and bring any malfunction to a breakdown.

The Goetz has plenty of pros, but think hard before buying this car. And do not forget about a thorough diagnosis of the body.

Expert opinion

Hyundai Getz has a number of advantages that distinguish it from other subcompact cars: budget price, relatively cheap maintenance and the absence of serious sores. This is a great option for any driver who does not pursue large dimensions and at the same time does not place high demands on the driving qualities of a car.

For some reason, the Hyundai Getz has long been entrenched in the reputation of a purely female car. Actually, it's just a stereotype. According to our practice, almost half of the owners who buy and sell these cars are men.

Finding a "Korean" in perfect condition is very difficult, since the car has not been produced since 2011 and has already managed to live a busy life. First of all, there may be problems with the body. The minimum that awaits you is chips, scratches and lapped. In this case, you are even lucky. Another common problem is the suspension, in particular the stabilizer struts. And this is not the fault of the car design itself, but of the owners, who in most cases delay the trip to the service station until the last. At the same time, all problems are easily and budgetary eliminated.

Pictured: Hyundai Getz 5-door "2002–2005

Despite the fact that Hyundai Getz is an "old man" in the market, the demand for it is consistently high. And both on the automatic and on the mechanics. Just yesterday, two buyers came to our branch in Rostov-on-Don at once, and both wanted to buy a 2010 Hyundai Getz on the mechanics.

Hatchback prices are highly dependent on the region of sale. If we consider restyled cars of the last year of production with the most popular 1.4 engine (97 hp), then the average price in Moscow and the region for cars with automatic transmission is 320 thousand rubles, with manual transmission - 300 thousand rubles. But the offers on the market of the Krasnodar Territory are much more expensive: with automatic transmission - 350 thousand rubles, with manual transmission - 320 thousand rubles.

Would you buy a Hyundai Getz?

Engine 1.4 l., manual transmission, power windows, air conditioning, one airbag, heated front seats, rear drum brakes.
Moved to Getz c VAZ 21093 i, which drove 4 years. I’ll make a reservation right away - after 1 year of operation 21093 the engine was forced. The cylinder head was modified and a sports camshaft No. 52 was installed, which added agility to it. I had the experience of driving such cars: Niva, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Honda accord tape S (190 hp on the mechanics).

We chose for a long time, re-read all the tests in magazines with my wife, and at first we chose the Accent, because it suited us for the price / quality. But then Goetz turned up and re-read all the tests, and then a ride, we decided to take it. It was used for 1 year, with 30,000 km. run.
Now it has 37,000 km.

When we were given a ride on the Getze for the first time by its salesman, my wife and I had only good impressions, especially after 21093. Engine noise in the cabin appears only after 3000 rpm. The plastic of the panel is of course “oak”, but nothing rattles. The cabin is quite ascetic, but all the levers and control buttons are located in convenient places.
I was pleasantly surprised by the high seating position of the driver and passengers, while no one reaches his head to the ceiling. There are much more rear seats for passengers than in the nine and accent. No wonder they say about this car that it is bigger inside than outside.
Engine - from low revs goes so-so. If you smoothly move from a place to the 1st, and then sharply press the gas to the floor, then the car thinks for a second and begins to slowly gain momentum. 21093 did not have this - I pressed it and she immediately went briskly (even before forcing). Although I heard that 16-valve subcompact engines are not very lucky from low revs, so I was not very surprised. But if you release the clutch more sharply, then it starts off as it should and my ex 21093 cannot keep up with it. By the way, the Getz motor is very similar in character to the Honda accord tape S, I don’t compare cars, but I’m talking about the nature of the motors - they are not very good at the bottom, but the power wakes up after the promotion.

On the track, the Getz showed itself only on the good side, especially compared to 21093. With a difference in weight of about 100 kg (the Getz is heavier) and a 97-horsepower engine, the Getz behaves much better in such disciplines as acceleration and reaching a maximum speed of 176 km / h (with 3 passengers + driver, full trunk, some cargo was on the knees of the rear passengers).
Although the Getz is 18 cm shorter than the 21093, it is surprisingly much less "goaty" on the uneven track, I think because of the lower ground clearance (at least somewhere it helps) and better aerodynamics.
Suspension is quite stiff, but I like it, because. the car behaves well on the road (not rolling), the steering is very good and in general it is nimble.
But the manual transmission is twofold. The gears are long and the work of the engine - manual transmission is very elastic. On the one hand, this is convenient. You can switch gears less often, especially in the city. But on the other hand, it killed the explosive character in the car, although there are not many fans like me. My wife travels and is happy. And lovers of hotter need to take a 1.6-liter engine, there are all disc brakes, although of course - a little expensive.
I almost forgot - I really liked the visibility into the side mirrors, they are hemispherical.

Breakdowns - only one, the bearing of the hydraulic booster tensioner whistles, but has not changed yet.

The car is good, in any case, domestic cars can not be compared with it.

Goetz engines turned out to be remarkably unproblematic. Yes, after 60-70 thousand kilometers, immediately after a cold start, hydraulic lifters begin to tap, but after warming up, the knock subsides and does not progress with time. After 50-60 thousand kilometers, crankshaft oil seals can leak, due to the “fires of St. Elmo” on high-voltage wires, there are problems with starting in wet weather, spark plugs often need to be replaced twice as early as 30 thousand kilometers and most often cause the Check indication to turn on Engine. It will be more expensive to ignore it - you can "get" to replace not only the oxygen sensor ($140), but also the neutralizer ($800). And after three or four years, you often have to change a burned-out or punctured (do not neglect the protection of the engine compartment!) “corrugation” of the exhaust system ($ 150), although you can weld a universal “accordion” in its place.

After 80 thousand kilometers, the engine mounts begin to tire ($50-70). The first “bell” is increased vibrations, the second is a knock in the supports. The third, when the body of one of the supports collapses, it is better not to wait - the fallen power unit will damage the wheel drive. And do not tighten with the replacement of the timing belt - its breakage after 60 thousand kilometers threatens by no means a friendly meeting of valves with pistons, especially on 12-valve valves with a volume of 1.3 liters. And 1400 cc motors turned out to be the most picky about the quality of fuel: a little something - the engine stalls after a cold start or starts to “play” with speed. “Flashing” the control unit helps - if the machine is still under warranty, then it is free, and after the warranty period expires, you will have to pay about $100 for the operation.

However, if the throttle block is dirty, the speed will float in any of the motors. The crankcase ventilation system is to blame. Flushing is best entrusted to knowledgeable people. It is better to change the air filter at every maintenance after 15 thousand kilometers. This is easy to do on your own - unlike replacing the fuel filter hidden in the gas tank ($ 30), which is required every 60 thousand kilometers.

Cooling radiators ($ 250) due to leaks in the lower tanks were often changed under warranty and often did not live up to 100 thousand kilometers - more reliable ones appeared only after restyling. The “automatic machines” produced by Hyundai were also not very durable on the Goetz of the first years of production - sometimes, due to premature wear, they had to be sorted out before 100 thousand kilometers. And there are problems with the control electronics even now - the speed sensors of the input and output shafts are failing, because of which the “automatic” after 50-60 thousand kilometers can start to work jerky, or even go into emergency mode (remains in third gear). But the repair costs no more than $ 200, and otherwise, taking care of the “machine” comes down to changing the oil every 45 thousand kilometers and the filter after 60 thousand kilometers.

After 50-60 thousand kilometers, a manual transmission may also require intervention - more precisely, torn cables of the gear shift drive ($ 80 each). The driven clutch disc ($90) can last up to 120 thousand kilometers, and before that, it may be necessary to replace the drive seals, the intermediate bearing of the axle shaft and a pair of release bearings ($40), warning of their imminent "death" by whistling.

And the rear suspension is vociferous and in good condition. The upper mounts of unheated shock absorbers are tapping - and it's usually not the rubber bushings. If the "voice acting" of the suspension is annoying, you can replace the "native" harsh Mando shock absorbers with something softer (for example, Japanese Kayaba firms are suitable). The resource of shock absorbers is up to 60-70 thousand kilometers. The bushings and stabilizer struts "live" the same amount. Front shock absorbers ($90 each) require updating after 90-100 thousand kilometers - often together with thrust bearings (they are sold separately from the supports for only $10). Together with them, it makes sense to change the wheel bearings ($50), steering tips ($25), silent blocks ($40 per side) and ball joints ($25) of the front levers - both of them are changed separately.

Goetz's specific problem - the fragile studs for attaching the wheels to the hubs - has no age. But, as if anticipating future problems, the Koreans made the studs inexpensive ($1.5 each) and easily replaceable.

Most Getz are equipped with power steering, and on pre-styling cars with a 1.6 engine, there is also an MDPS (Motor Driven Power Steering) electric power steering located on the steering shaft. In the "electric" knocks of the worm shaft on irregularities are possible, in the "hydraulics" the pipe connections and pump seals sweat - neither of which is critical. A small backlash in the engagement of the gear and steering rack after 120 thousand kilometers is treated by adjustment, and crunches when turning the steering wheel disappear after replacing the steering shaft bearing ($ 20).

The brakes also turned out to be long-lived: the front pads often last longer than 40 thousand kilometers, and the discs - up to 100 thousand kilometers. The pads in the rear drum brakes serve at least the same amount (in cars with a 1.6-liter engine in our market, they are disc - their pads “walk” one and a half times less).

Goetz body successfully resists corrosion as long as its coating is intact: under a layer of paint - galvanic zinc-containing primer. But the metal is not of the best quality - do not be lazy to immediately tint chips and scratches, otherwise rust will bloom in a matter of days. Paint, especially for pre-styling cars, is not very durable and after six or seven years it begins to swell on the trunk lid, doors, thresholds ... And plastic bumpers and door handles can begin to shed even earlier.

But the salon is doing well. The budget upholstery is not wiped, the seats do not sit out. And the interior creaks even in fresh cars. Not too reliable buttons for heating the seats and power windows, and the “proprietary” problem with fogging of windows in wet weather can annoy - even frequent replacement of the cabin ventilation filter does not help. The air conditioner saves, but after three or four years it will require recharging due to a gradual refrigerant leak.

On average, "getzik" loses 8-9% per year of the original price. A three-four-year-old car in good condition can be bought for only 220-240 thousand rubles - however, it will be a three-door with a 1.1-liter engine and “mechanics”, which is only suitable for a leisurely drive alone. The most powerful and expensive 1600 cc cars (up to a quarter of offers) cost 270-350 thousand rubles with a manual transmission, with an "automatic" - 20-30 thousand rubles more expensive. And the most popular versions with a 1.4 engine are estimated at 250-340 thousand rubles. And you can sell such cars without any problems - there is a demand.

Friendly appearance, practicality, good controllability of the subcompact appealed to the inhabitants of the Old World. Inexpensive foreign car instantly won the sympathy of the Russians. Immediately after the appearance in dealerships, queues lined up for the novelty!

This hatchback is available in 3- and 5-door versions. Our market is dominated by five-doors.

Overall

Thanks to the high body, the sloping windshield, as if continuing the line of the hood, the Getz resembles a minivan in profile. Despite the overall class restrictions, the cabin is quite spacious. Wide doorways make it easy to get in, two passengers in the back seat feel comfortable, and a third can be taken on a short trip. The trunk is not too big, but if you have a long journey or shopping, you can fold the back of the second row, increasing the volume of the cargo compartment from the original 254 to a maximum of 1130 liters.

Before restyling, the range of Hyundai Getz engines included 4-cylinder gasoline units with a volume of 1.1 (62 hp), 1.3 (82 hp) and 1.6 liters (105 hp), and also a 1.5-liter 82-horsepower turbodiesel. Modifications with petrol 1.3 and diesel were not supplied to Russia. After restyling at the end of 2005, the front cladding, optics, bumpers have changed. Updates touched the instrument cluster, the design of the center console, upholstery materials. The power of the 1.1-liter engine has increased to 66 hp, and the 1.6-liter engine has grown to 106 hp. The 1.3-liter engine was replaced by a 1.4-liter, developing 97 forces. Instead of a 3-cylinder diesel engine, Getz began to install a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine (88 or 110 hp) under the hood. And most importantly, the updated Getz got rid of many "childhood diseases".

Engine: basic chores

In the Russian secondary market, versions 1.4 and 1.6 are most widely used, reliable and not burdensome in content. Most likely, the main chores of the second owner will be reduced to routine maintenance. For Getz engines, it is quite traditional: changing the oil and air filter every 15 thousand kilometers, the fuel filter (in the tank) - after 60 thousand kilometers. Almost certainly, upon arrival at the next MOT, you will have to put in new spark plugs, which, as a result of contact with not very high-quality gasoline, rarely nurse the prescribed 30 thousand kilometers.

The gas distribution mechanism of all Getz power units is driven by a belt, which changes every 60 thousand km along with oil seals and rollers. This procedure in a specialized Hyundai technical center will be performed for 11,100 rubles. (including the cost of parts and labor).

The water pump is a real long-liver, its service life usually exceeds 200 thousand km. But the high-voltage wires of the ignition system have a real “allergy” to anti-icing preparations. After traveling through winter city streets, the engine often starts to work unstably, “tweaks”, the Check Engine light flashes ... In general, a spare set of high-voltage wires in the trunk will not be superfluous.

Winter chemicals actively corrode both the low-pressure line pipe of the air conditioner, as well as the lower radiator tank - in this case, the assembly will have to be changed entirely. In recent years, more durable radiators of a new type have gone to the conveyor and spare parts.

Somewhere after 60–80 thousand kilometers, hydraulic lifters may require replacement, making themselves felt by tapping on a hot engine. However, this is not a chronic Getz disease. But what experts strongly recommend paying attention to is the oil level. Alas, on Hyundai engines, its “burnout” is quite noticeable, so it’s better to look at the dipstick more often.

A burnt out muffler exhaust pipe corrugation can create many problems. Typical symptoms are the sporty roar of the engine and the smell of exhaust in the cabin ... In addition to discomfort, riding such a “car” is fraught with another trouble: the second lambda probe installed behind the corrugation begins to cheat. All this can lead to an erroneous fuel mixture formulation (the car becomes more voracious) and the imminent death of the catalytic converter.

Transmission

The engines are aggregated with a 5-speed "mechanics" or a 4-band "automatic". In principle, you don’t have to worry about the health of the transmission on relatively fresh cars. Both boxes are quite reliable and durable, if you do not forget about periodic maintenance.

And yet, meticulous manual transmission diagnostics when buying a car from 2002-2003 does not hurt: sometimes it knocks out third and reverse gears on the “first-born”. As it turned out, the reason for the non-inclusion is a factory marriage. In 2004, the defect was eliminated.

Somewhere after 60-70 thousand kilometers, the gear shift cables may burst (there are two of them in the mechanism drive), but Getz owners rarely encounter this problem.

As for the clutch, it can withstand an average of 80-90 thousand kilometers, and here a lot depends on the driving style. It changes as an assembly: disc, basket, release bearing. The native kit costs about 9000 rubles, for work at the branded station you will have to pay about 6400 rubles.

On pre-styling copies, automatic transmission periodically presents unpleasant surprises. For example, the bushings of the torque converter pump are rotated. But even now, some owners complain about the nervousness of the "machine" or its transition to emergency mode (the automatic transmission "gets stuck" in third gear) - usually due to a breakdown of the input / output speed sensors.

Chassis

The Hyundai Getz suspension is balanced, although the design is simple - McPherson struts in front, a U-shaped beam in the back. Simplicity is the key to reliability. In any case, the deplorable state of the main elements of the chassis with a run of about 90 thousand km clearly indicates the accident past of the car or the reckless disposition of its owner. In any case, it is better to immediately refuse to buy such an instance.

There is nothing special to break in the rear suspension. Most likely, shock absorbers will give up here first. Already after 40 thousand km of run, a breakdown of the suspension on an empty car can notify their imminent death. In this case, the shock absorbers are changed to modified ones, equipped with special tabs. In the range of 30-50 thousand kilometers, stabilizer struts and bushings often fail.

Most Getz modifications are equipped with power steering. There is one, not too serious claim to hydraulics - sometimes the pipe connections and pump seals “sweat”.

On cars of the first two years of production, the electric power steering sometimes fails (a feature of the pre-styling version 1.6). After 50-60 thousand km, most likely, you will have to change the steering tips.

The braking system does not raise any questions. The front pads nurse up to 50 thousand km, the discs - about 80 thousand km. Rear mounted disc or drum brakes. "Drums" serve more than 100 thousand km. The original set of front pads costs 3200 rubles, the rear ones, for drum mechanisms, - 1800 rubles. Replacement will cost 800 and 1920 rubles. respectively.

Experts recommend changing the brake fluid in the system every 30 thousand kilometers.

Body

Serious body problems are not noticed. However, on cars older than four years old, a corrosion center may appear under the fifth door handle - the place where the de-icing agent accumulates.

In some cases, rust may appear on the thresholds and lower edge of the doors. Otherwise, the Hyundai Getz body quite reliably withstands the blow of Russian bad weather and road services - it saves galvanic zinc-containing primer. But keep in mind: all of the above applies to the European versions of the model. Cars from the domestic market of Korea are almost completely deprived of immunity against corrosion.

german inspection

According to the German technical control service TUV, which inspects cars in Germany, serious malfunctions were detected in 5.6% of three-year-old Hyundai Getz. With this indicator, the car is in the middle of the reliability rating, ranking 78th out of 125 possible. The statistics of five-year-old cars are much better: they hold on to the 49th position (dropout rate - 7.2). According to TUV experts, failures in the operation of the engine control unit can cause problems for the Getz owner, and a violation of the insulation of high-voltage wires makes it difficult to start in wet weather.

TUV rating

Body, running gear

The body resists rust formation. There are no special comments on the transmission oil consumption and rear suspension parts.

Electrician

Headlights and taillights fail about twice as often as the fleet average.

brakes

The braking system presents no special surprises. Sometimes pipelines fail prematurely.

Ecology, exhaust

The number of failures in the engine power system is close to the average for the fleet. In the exhaust system, the corrugation of the exhaust pipe often burns out.

In my opinion...

Editor:

The Koreans got a practical and unpretentious city runabout. In terms of the combination of consumer qualities and in terms of reliability, it is not inferior to most European classmates. When choosing a copy in the secondary market, it is better to opt for the post-styling Getz, free from most of the "childhood diseases".
