Opel Vectra with filler plug in manual transmission. How to change the oil in an automatic transmission opel vectra. Tools for changing oil in manual transmission on opel vectra

Since there is no periodic oil change in the gearbox, there is no drain plug in the gearbox housing.

Draining the oil from the gearbox will be faster and more efficient if this operation is done after the engine has warmed up to operating temperature and after a test drive to warm up the gearbox.

PROCEDURE
1. Raise the front of the car and secure it on stands. Remove the engine mudguard.
2. Wipe the area near the differential cover and install the oil container.
3. Loosen the differential cover bolts evenly and gradually and drain the engine oil into a container.
4. After draining the oil, wipe the mating surfaces of the gearbox and differential cover, and install the differential cover with a new gasket and bolts.
5. Lower the vehicle and fill the gearbox with oil through the breather hole. Unscrew the breather located on the top of the gear shift mechanism (photo on the left), and after filling the oil (photo on the right), screw it back into place.

To check and top up the transmission oil in the Opel Vectra manual transmission, install the car in a horizontal position above the inspection hole. Check the oil level no earlier than 5 minutes after stopping the engine

Clean the area around the transmission oil level plug. On Opel models with a 1.6 liter engine, the oil level plug is located on the left side of the gearbox behind the drive shaft, indicated by an arrow. On 1.8L and 2.0L engine models, the level plug is located on the right front side of the transmission behind the drive shaft. The oil level in the Opel Vectra gearbox should reach the lower edge of the hole for the oil level plug.

If it is necessary to add oil to the gearbox, unscrew the breather from the top of the gearbox housing

Add the necessary Opel Vectra B gear oil through the breather hole until oil starts to flow out of the oil level plug hole. Torque tighten the gearbox oil level plug and install the breather on top of the manual gearbox.

In this photo review will be considered step by step manual gearbox oil change car brand Opel Vectra C 2002-2008 of release, engine size 1.6 cm3 ... You don’t need to have any special professional skills. All you need is:

  1. Special gear oil, in this case brand GM;
  2. Lubricant fixing the thread;
  3. Jack;
  4. Pad;
  5. Key on 11;

The main steps for changing the transmission oil are: Unscrew the engine protection, if any, by gaining access to the differential cover, carefully loosen the bolts with an eleven key, drain the old oil, jack up the front left wheel, then remove it, gaining access to the oil level control plug - unscrew it . Inspect the cork with a magnetic core, evaluate it visually for the presence of foreign objects on the magnet. Then clean the differential cover from the old oil and worn gasket. Next, unscrew the breather at the gearbox, install the differential cover and a new gasket in their original place, do not forget to put the plug back in place to control the oil level, and then fill in the required amount of gear oil through the breather.

Replacement frequency

The oil in the Vectra's mechanical box is changed - every 80-90 thousand km.

In order to change the oil in a manual gearbox, we need:

  1. the oil itself;
  2. differential cover gasket;
  3. thread lock;
  4. Key on 11;

We climb under the car, remove the engine protection, if any. After that, we have direct access to the box cover, or rather, the differential cover!

We unscrew all the bolts with a key of 11, then carefully pry off the cover and drain the oil.

When all the oil is drained, remove the cover and in front of us is the differential gear.

Perhaps at the ends there will be parts of the old gasket. Which will need to be removed. I used a regular knife.

After we clean the cap from the old oil.

We take out the cork with a magnetic core. We look at her. If everything is fine, we continue to work.

If during the ride you feel that the gearbox is not working as usual (the car is slipping, periodically troit, does not turn on or turns on the gears with jerks), then you need to urgently check your gearbox. These symptoms indicate a likely imminent breakdown. Changing the oil at the Opel Vectra V gearbox is the first thing the car owner should do in case of malfunctions.

Shocks in the transmission, a drop in power (traction) while driving, the appearance of a transmission emergency signal on the instrument panel are some of the few signs that your gearbox needs care. Often, such problems appear in those cars whose owners have never or very long ago changed the oil MTF (manual transmission fluid) or ATF (for automatic transmissions). Regardless of which transmission - manual or automatic - your car is equipped with, the symptoms of abnormal operation of the gearbox will be the same.

Opel Vectra B

From time to time it is necessary to check the level of MTF or ATF in your gearbox. If the car does not warm up in winter, and its operation is carried out on a cold gearbox, this will also result in further problems. Remember - untimely replacement can lead to costly repairs.

Instructions for changing the oil in a manual transmission

Consider the instructions for changing the MTF in Opel Vectra B cars for F13, F17, F18 and F23 checkpoints. The gearbox identification code is located on the top of the transmission housing.

Tools

To change the MTF fluid in a car, you will need:

  • a set of wrenches (in particular, prepare wrenches for “13” and “16”);
  • flat screwdriver;
  • thread lock;
  • ordinary pharmacy syringe;
  • gearbox pan gasket;
  • container for waste liquid;
  • acetone.

And, of course, you will need oil. For manual transmissions, it is categorically not recommended to use counterfeit oil made in China - this is fraught with further breakdowns in the box. Opel SAE 75W-80 MTF is best suited - you need two liters of liquid.

Steps

Let's start with the actual oil change:

  1. We take a wrench on “16” and unscrew the bolts securing the engine crankcase protection to the body.
  2. We remove protection.
  3. We take the key to “13” and unscrew 3 bolts out of the 10 available on the front of the manual transmission pan (by unscrewing the bolts, the front part will hang down a little, respectively, the liquid will drain in this place). The remaining 7 bolts need to be loosened (but not completely unscrewed) to cleanly drain the MTF.

  4. Next, you need a container to collect the spent consumable item - we take it and substitute it under the pallet.
  5. Then we take a flat screwdriver prepared in advance - you need to insert it between the pallet and the body of your manual transmission and slightly bend part of the pallet.
  6. Having done this, MTF will begin to drain out of the box in a thin stream. When it is glass, you need to unscrew the cover completely and wipe it from accumulated dirt and waste fluid, as well as the remnants of the rubber gasket. To do this, use acetone or another solvent.
  7. Then, from the remnants of the gasket and MTF, we clean the gearbox housing where the pan is attached.

    Open checkpoint Opel Vectra

  8. Next, you need to put the cover of the pallet in place. We take a pre-prepared thread lock and a gasket, put it on the cover with the red side and tighten all 10 bolts as tight as possible.
  9. Now we need to remove the front left wheel. For more convenience, you can also remove the battery and support for it.
  10. The wheel is removed and now, using the key to “13” (it will be more convenient to use a long ratchet), we unscrew the MTF level control plug in the box, which is located on the left side of the manual transmission case.

    Check hole for manual transmission oil level

  11. Under the hood on the manual transmission we find the breather and unscrew it.
  12. The MTF is being replaced. To do this, we take a medical syringe and fill in the amount of MTF we need through the breather (up to two liters). In order to prevent oil from flowing out of the hole, you need to jack up the left side of your Opel Vectra.

    Opel Vetra Manual Transmission Breather

  13. After wiping the plug, put it back with the key to “13”.
  14. We twist the breather.
  15. As for cars with the “F23” gearbox marking, here the MTF is replaced in the same order. Only a few of these manual transmissions have a slightly overstated fluid level in the box as standard. Therefore, during the change of the “consumable”, when the MTF level has approached the mark of the control hole, the plug (which is located under the bottom, on the box) must be tightened and about half a liter of liquid should be added through the breather. As a rule, control plugs in Opel Vectra B models are marked with a yellow mark.

Instructions for changing the oil in automatic transmission

Changing the transmission ATF in an automatic transmission is in many ways similar to changing the oil in a manual gearbox, but there are some differences, which we will discuss further.

Tools

In the case of replacing ATF in an automatic box with an Opel Vectra V, a little less tools will be required (in automatic transmission, the fluid is drained through a special hole).

To replace ATF in an Opel automatic transmission, we need:

  • set of wrenches;
  • new gasket;
  • capacity for spent ATF;
  • funnel;
  • new oil filter.

You can also get a compressor to purge the filter.

Steps

The frequency of replacing ATF in automatic transmissions is not indicated in the operating instructions. In order for the car to “run” longer, experts at the service station recommend replacing the ATF at least every 40 thousand kilometers.

  1. First you need to warm up your automatic transmission to 60 degrees.
  2. Then we drive into a pit or overpass and turn off the engine.
  3. Then you need to climb under the bottom of the car, find the automatic transmission and unscrew the drain cap on it.
  4. We are waiting until all the ATF is merged.

  5. Next, using the key to “13”, you must carefully unscrew the bolts securing the pan (there will still be oil in it).
  6. We are waiting for the main part of the ATF (about 4 liters) to merge. Attention! in total, there are about 7 liters of oil in the Opel Vectra automatic box. At home, it is impossible to completely merge it. This is done only when the gearbox is completely disassembled.
  7. Remove the gasket and install a new one.

  8. Then we remove the filter and wash or blow it off the dirt and put it in place, or install a new filter component instead.
  9. We twist the ATF drain plug, put the automatic transmission pan in place and tighten it with bolts.
  10. Then we insert a funnel into the hole to check the ATF level and pour into the box about the same amount of liquid as was drained.
  11. Now we start the engine and, with the brake pedal depressed, alternately switch all speeds with a delay of about 5 seconds.
  12. Once again, check the fluid level in the box, if necessary, top up.
  13. You need to make a short trip (up to 10 km) and check the oil level again on the dipstick.

Video "Adding oil to the Opel Vectra manual transmission"

This video shows how to add fluid to the manual transmission of an Opel Vectra car.

This material will help those who decide to replace the transmission fluid in the Opel Vectra. If you found this article helpful or have any questions, please leave a comment.

Many automakers have gears for life, but it will inevitably be necessary to change the lubricant over time. If you periodically change the transmission fluid, this will significantly extend the life of the device. As a result of oil aging, rapid wear of parts occurs, which can lead to an early failure of the box. In addition, a fluid replacement procedure may be required in case of repair work. In Vectra, an oil change in a manual transmission is not provided by the manufacturer, for this reason the design does not include a drain plug for the gearbox housing. But such inconveniences will not interfere with the procedure, if necessary. To carry out an oil change, it will not be necessary to involve specialists; a motorist can do it on his own, with the exception of a number of cases where a serious breakdown has occurred with the need for repair and complete replacement of the fluid.

An oil change in an Opel Vectra manual transmission is mandatory for the efficient operation of the gearbox.

When to change

The degree of aging of the gearbox oil can be influenced by many external factors, such as harsh climatic conditions, the driver's driving style, or the quality of the roads in the area where the car is operated. It is planned to carry out a fluid change every 70 - 80 thousand km. run, but often the need arises earlier. Regular checking of the level and monitoring of the condition of the lubricant makes it possible to more accurately determine when a procedure is required and prevent premature wear of the device parts. The urgent need to update the MTF transmission fluid arises when signs of device malfunction are detected. If during the ride there were shocks in the transmission and other evidence of unstable operation, changing the oil in the Opel Vectra B box is a mandatory step to solve the problem.

What kind of oil to fill

For the Opel Vectra gearbox, it is recommended to use Opel GM manual transmission oil SAE 75W-80, 75W-90. You can use another original product with these characteristics. Oil in the gearbox is purchased in a volume of 2 liters, although in practice a little less is used. It is recommended to use the liquid of the same brand that has already been filled in the box, the effect may not be pleasing.

Checking the oil level

The functionality of the transmission depends not only on the quality of the filled product, but also on how much oil is in the box. If the level does not correspond to normal indicators, you can not count on the stability of the device, so you need to monitor its position every 30,000 km. mileage or more. You can check the amount of fluid in the manual transmission of an Opel Vectra car using a probe (it is easy to do it yourself by bending a piece of wire), or focusing on the edge of the corresponding hole:

  1. To carry out the procedure, the car is located above the inspection hole, after turning off the engine, about 5 minutes should pass.
  2. Inspect the box for leaks, then locate the level plug. Due to the design features of different vehicle configurations, it can be located on the left or right side of the device behind the drive shaft.
  3. Unscrew the plug and evaluate the test results. The oil should be at the bottom edge of the hole.

If during the check the oil level in the car box was found at a critical level, this threatens to require repair work. If there is a severe drop in fluid volume, add MTF immediately and find out the cause of the problem.

Adding oil to the manual transmission Opel Vectra

To prevent a lack of transmission fluid, it must be topped up in a timely manner. If this becomes necessary when checking the level, wrap the breather located at the top of the Opel Vectra gearbox housing and slowly fill it into the MTF hole. Fill it until liquid begins to flow from the hole for the level plug. After that, the cover is wrapped, the breather is returned to its place. The procedure assumes the use of the same product that was filled earlier.

Necessary tools and materials for changing the oil in the gearbox of an Opel Vectra car:

  • new volume 2 l.;
  • key for 17, as well as for 13 and 11;
  • filling syringe;
  • new gasket for pallet box;
  • cork seals;
  • clean rag;
  • container for draining old fluid.

Step by step replacement instructions

The automaker did not provide a drain hole for replacement, and the regulations only recommend checking the level and topping up the oil. In practice, the operating conditions of the car are far from ideal, so after a certain period of time the fluid needs to be changed. The mechanical boxes of the Opel Vectra models are different, but the oil change process follows a similar principle:

After the procedure, we check the quality of the work performed. Timely replacement of the MTF fluid, taking into account all the features of your Opel Vectra model, provides the mechanical box with long-term wear protection. At the same time, it is important to use a suitable original gear oil so that instead of benefiting the box, it does not cause damage.
