Diagnostics and maintenance of the cooling system of the car VAZ-2115

Cooling system VAZ 2115 - liquid, closed type, with forced circulation. The tightness of the system is ensured by inlet and outlet valves in the plug of the expansion tank.

The thermostat and the radiator fan keep the engine warm. The latter is turned on by a sensor screwed into the left radiator tank on the VAZ-2115 engine. Sensor contacts are closed at a temperature of 99±2°C, and open at a temperature of 94±2°C. To control the temperature of the coolant, a sensor is screwed into the cylinder head of the engine, connected to the temperature gauge on the dashboard.

The coolant pump is a vane, centrifugal type, driven from the crankshaft pulley by a timing belt.

The thermostat controls the redistribution of fluid flows. On a cold engine, the thermostat bypass valve closes the pipe leading to the radiator, and the liquid circulates only in a small circle (through the thermostat bypass pipe), bypassing the radiator.

On the VAZ-2115 engine, the small circle includes a heater radiator, an intake manifold, a carburetor heating unit and a liquid chamber of a semi-automatic starting device. At a temperature of (85 ± 2) °С, the bypass valve of the thermostat begins to move, opening the main pipe; in this case, part of the liquid circulates in a large circle, through the radiator. At a temperature of about 102 ° C, the nozzle opens completely, and all the liquid circulates in a large circle. The stroke of the main valve must be at least 8 mm.

The principle of operation of the cooling system is as follows. The centrifugal pump, whose shaft is driven by a belt from the crankshaft pulley, takes the coolant from the bottom of the radiator and pumps it into the cooling jacket of the head and cylinder block. The liquid washes the most heated parts, takes away part of the heat from them "and heats up, and then enters the upper tank of the radiator through a hose. At the same time, part of the heated liquid passes through the engine intake pipe jacket, heating the combustible mixture; if necessary, the liquid can be discharged using a tap into the heater Passing through the core of the radiator into its lower tank, the heated liquid is cooled and again flows to the centrifugal pump.

Air lock in the engine cooling system is one of the main reasons for the engine to warm up to operating temperature for a long time. Therefore, every driver should be interested in removing the airlock from the cooling system of his car.

How to expel an air lock from the cooling system?

According to the law of physics, air accumulates in the highest place. In a car, the highest link in the coolant circuit is the throttle assembly. That is why the air must be removed from there. There are several ways to get rid of an airlock. Here is the first one below:

If you have a 1.6 liter engine, then the first thing to do is remove the plastic lining on the engine - unscrew the cap on the engine to fill in oil, and then pull out the entire lining. It is seated on rubber seals. After removing this plastic screen, we twist the oil cap back in order to avoid dirt getting into the engine crankcase.

  1. We find the nozzles for heating the throttle assembly (there are 2 of them), see the figure. Pick up any handset
  2. Next, unscrew the cap of the expansion (coolant tank) tank, and cover the neck of the tank with a clean rag.
  3. We begin to blow into the tank with liquid. We blow until all the air comes out of the hose and antifreeze flows.
  4. We quickly put the tube back on and tighten it with a clamp so that air does not get in there.

(It is worth noting that, depending on the tube that you removed, the antifreeze may flow both from the tube; and from the fitting from which the tube was removed)

The second way to remove air from the cooling system is less perverse. There is no need to blow anything here:

  1. We warm up the engine to operating temperature
  2. Warm up, turn off the engine
  3. The expansion tank cap does NOT need to be removed.
  4. As in the first method, we unscrew the clamp of the coolant pipe on the throttle assembly.
  5. After removing the throttle assembly heating pipe, bleed the air, and after the antifreeze starts to flow out, immediately put it back on the fitting and secure it well with a clamp.

But be careful and careful! Do not forget that the temperature of the coolant is about 90 degrees.

There is also a simpler, but less effective way to eliminate an air lock:

1) We drive up a steep hill so that the radiator cap becomes the highest point of the cooling system.

2) Unscrew the cap of the expansion tank and the radiator cap.

3) Let the car warm up to operating temperature

4) Then we gas several times and simultaneously pour coolant into the barrel.

Keep doing this until the bubbles stop appearing.

How to remove an airlock on a VAZ with electronic (e-gas)?

Since there is no throttle valve cooling system, this node must be bypassed. Here you can also put the car on the rise.

I hope that these three methods will help you solve the problem, and you have found all the answers to your questions on the topic “How to get rid of an air lock?”

How to expel air from the VAZ 2114 cooling system

The ability to cool automobile engines is rightfully considered one of the important components for ensuring the stability of its operation and achieving the best indicators of power, torque, and fuel consumption. It uses liquids as a coolant, such as water, antifreeze or antifreeze. There are also motors where heat is removed from the engine by the air flow forced by the fan.

The presence of an air lock interferes with the normal operation of the cooling system

Features of cooling the engine VAZ 2114

On this car, as well as on VAZ 2113 and VAZ 2115 cars, a closed VAZ liquid cooling system is used, in which antifreeze or antifreeze is used as a coolant. The coolant circulates through special channels in a running motor. Its circulation is provided by a pump, which is driven by the crankshaft of the motor using a drive belt.

Regulates the flow of coolant, its direction, a device called a thermostat. It is designed in such a way that before the coolant warms up to the operating temperature, it circulates in a small circle, bypassing the radiator. When the liquid reaches a temperature of 870C, it opens, the liquid flow is directed to the radiator for cooling.

The radiator is blown by a stream of oncoming air, and when it is not enough, an electric fan is turned on. For these purposes, a sensor is installed in the radiator, which gives a signal to turn it on. Also, hot liquid flows through the radiator of the stove and heats the interior of the car in cold weather. Excess antifreeze from thermal expansion is collected in an additional tank, which is called an expansion tank.

Air in the system

Air in the engine cooling system, an unacceptable phenomenon. The heat exchange processes in the motor are disturbed, which can cause it to overheat, thereby creating the prerequisites for failure. In cold weather, there will be no heating of the car interior, body glazing. Sensors installed in injection motors begin to give distorted information to the electronic control unit, which disrupts the engine's duty cycle.

Why do air pockets occur?

In order for an air lock to occur in the cooling system, one of several possible reasons for its occurrence is sufficient. These can be such violations in the system:

  1. The clamps of the rubber pipes are not tightened enough, because of this, air leakage is possible, and this leads to the fact that an air lock appears in the VAZ 2114 cooling system. This is especially true for the cold season, when, due to frequent temperature changes, they expand and contract many times ;
  2. Hanging of the valve built into the cover of the expansion tank;
  3. The tightness of the water pump is broken;
  4. The presence of damage in the form of cracks, leaks in the main radiator or additional for the stove;
  5. Burnt-out gasket between the cylinder block and the block head.

Gasket burnout

They can also add problems of clogging of radiators or channels in the cylinder block, breakage of pump blades. The conclusion from the above is that it is necessary to immediately remove the air lock.

How to get rid?

Before starting work on getting rid of air from the system, it is necessary to carefully inspect it. Eliminate all, if any, leaks, stretch all the clamps on the nozzles, otherwise all the work may be in vain. Make sure that the “main distributor” of the coolant flow, meaning the thermostat, is working.

In order to expel air from the VAZ cooling system, there are several ways. Let's take a look at them:

  • The first way will be as follows. Air bubbles are always lighter than any liquid, so they always collect at the top of a closed vessel. For VAZ 2114, this will be a throttle assembly. You can remove the air plug from this node like this. Remove the decorative engine panel to gain access to the throttle assembly. Unscrew any of the two tubes from this node. The clamp must be left on the tube to quickly put it in place. Now you need to create excess pressure in the additional tank. This can be done if compressed air is supplied to the expansion tank in any improvised way. It will force antifreeze out of the tank, which in turn will be able to remove air from the system. Some sources recommend blowing into the neck of the expansion tank. It is undesirable to do this, because antifreeze or antifreeze are highly toxic substances, if they enter the body, they can cause serious harm. As soon as antifreeze or antifreeze appears from the tube or pipe, they quickly put everything in place and tighten the clamp well;
  • Removing air from the cooling system in the second way has some similarities with the previously described method. You can bleed air like this. It is necessary to put on gloves and on a well-heated engine, disconnect the pipe from the throttle assembly, you do not need to open the plug on the additional tank. Release air, make sure that coolant flows from the pipe or tube, and put everything back in place;
  • The turn has come to consider the following way how to expel an air lock from the engine cooling system. In this case, you need to put the car in such a way that the expansion tank is the highest point in the system. With this method, it is desirable to have an assistant. Open the plug on the expansion tank and warm up the engine. When the operating temperature is reached, the assistant regasses several times, and at this time it is necessary to add antifreeze or antifreeze to the tank. It must not be allowed to remain completely without liquid. Do this until all the air is bled from the system.

The third way is good for owners of cars with an electronic gas pedal. With this scheme, there is no cooling of the throttle assembly, so the air lock is removed using any available hill.

I would like to hope that this article will be useful to owners of not only VAZ cars and will help them in getting rid of air jams in the engine cooling system.

Instructions for releasing the VAZ-2115 cooling system from air locks

Due to the cooling system, the vehicle is able to very quickly reduce the temperature of the main engine parts heated during operation and other components that are subject to overheating. It should be noted that not only parts are cooled, but also gas and oil. By means of a simple device, the engine is protected from severe overheating. With the help of various coolants, which are antifreeze and antifreeze, "traveling" through special channels, heat is taken in and subsequently cooled in the system radiator. However, the functionality of the unit may be impaired, which most often contributes to the appearance of an air lock. In the material below, we will consider three effective methods that have proven to be effective in practice and can help any motorist who has a VAZ-2115 stove airborne.

The first signs of a malfunction signaling a problem

Almost every experienced car owner of a domestic vehicle knows how to expel air from the VAZ-2115 stove. The fact is that, as practice shows, this phenomenon manifests itself quite often and is of a periodic nature.

Most often, the malfunction manifests itself due to the mistakes of the motorist himself, who incorrectly tops up or changes the coolant. Less commonly, the problem manifests itself if it is found:

  • suction, which is present at the junction of the nozzles;
  • atmospheric valve defect;
  • pump depressurization;
  • leaks in radiators.

However, no matter what technical side of the issue forced the car owner to get rid of the air lock, it should be remembered that if this problem exists, the motor will start to warm up and cool down for too long. Due to airiness, the coolant will not move normally to the cooling radiator, which will lead to overheating of the power unit.

Methods to expel air from the VAZ-2115 stove

If a motorist diagnosed his car and realized that his VAZ-2115 stove was airy, you should use at least one of the methods below, which are considered quite effective solutions to the problem.

The first method (blowing the system)

According to the very first method, the motorist needs to dismantle the plastic casing that covers the vehicle's power unit. To remove this structural element, you will have to unscrew the cap that covers the hole for adding oil. Then you need to remove the cover. It is worth noting that immediately after removing the protective cover, the cover should be returned to its place, which will keep the power unit clean, preventing the ingress of dirt and dust.

The next step, which can solve the problem of airiness in the system, should be the search for pipes responsible for heating the throttle assembly. At this stage, it is necessary to pull off any pipe and, having twisted the lid from the opening of the antifreeze container, cover the resulting “hole” with a clean rag.

To get rid of the malfunction, you will have to actively blow through the interior of the tank. Through such actions, pressure is created that pushes the collected air out. The need to stop the procedure should be indicated by the antifreeze coming from the pipe, since it will start to come out only after there are no air accumulations in the system.

After blowing the VAZ-2115 system, the tube must be returned to its original place, and you should not hesitate, everything should be done as quickly as possible, otherwise a “portion” of unnecessary air will reappear in the tank.

Second method

If the VAZ-2115 stove is very airy, you can get rid of the resulting plug in just a few minutes without blowing the system. To expel the accumulation of air, after actively warming up the power unit for 15 minutes, turn it off and, with the cover of the expansion tank closed, remove any pipe on the throttle assembly. After antifreeze or antifreeze starts to come out, you must quickly insert the pipe into its original place. However, when using this method, one should not forget that after the operation of the power unit, the antifreeze could warm up to 80 ° C.

Third Method

The instructions described below will most likely help everyone who has a VAZ-2115 stove aired. To clean the system, you must first put the car at an angle, a steep hill is suitable for this, the vehicle must stand at the highest point with its nose. After the car is put on the handbrake, and special stands are installed under all the wheels to protect the driver from unexpected rolling, you need to twist the plugs that close the holes on the radiator and expansion tank.

The power unit must be activated for at least 10 minutes so that it has time to warm up, then you need to periodically press the accelerator pedal, while adding coolant to the system.

Topping up antifreeze or antifreeze should be done until bubbles stop appearing. After their complete disappearance, the work can be completed.

Conclusion

With a competent approach, any owner of a domestic vehicle can get rid of an air lock in the cooling system, and everything can be done without contacting qualified specialists, quickly and at no cost. It is worth noting that as soon as a similar problem has been diagnosed, you should not postpone its solution, as many additional problems may appear in the future. The performance of the power unit and its constituent components depends on normal access for the circulation of antifreeze or antifreeze.

Removing air locks from the stove VAZ-2114

Airing the heating system on VAZ-2114 cars is a fairly common phenomenon. Faced with the problem of an air lock, you can solve it yourself. The main thing here is to find the cause, and then use one of the three most effective methods.

Features of the cooling system

To understand the essence of airing and the consequences that an air lock can lead to, you need to understand the cooling system itself. It is not recommended to start repairs with your own hands, without possessing at least elementary theoretical knowledge:

  • VAZ-2114 cars are based on a closed liquid cooling system;
  • antifreeze or antifreeze is used as a coolant;
  • special channels serve to circulate the coolant through the engine;
  • circulation is carried out using a pump, and it, in turn, drives the crankshaft through a drive belt;
  • the thermostat is responsible for regulating the flow of coolant and its direction;
  • the thermostat has a design that allows it to circulate in a small circle until the coolant is heated to the desired parameters (no coolant enters the radiator);
  • when the temperature reaches 87 degrees, the opening occurs and the coolant penetrates directly into the radiator;
  • the radiator is blown by air flows when the car is moving;
  • if natural airflow does not cope, then the electric fan is activated;
  • a special sensor is responsible for its inclusion;
  • hot liquid penetrates through the heater radiator and allows you to warm up the antifreeze in winter;
  • excess antifreeze, which is formed during its thermal expansion, is in an additional (expansion) tank.

As you can see, if there is a plug in this circuit, this can lead to serious negative consequences for the VAZ-2114.

Causes of cork formation

In no case should air be allowed to enter the engine cooling system. This will lead to violations of heat transfer, which will entail overheating of the engine, lack of heat inside the cabin, and more. The engine receives false information from the sensors, therefore it ceases to function correctly.

If your VAZ-2114 stove is airy, there may be several reasons:

  1. Fixation of rubber pipes. Often the clamps loosen, which leads to a violation of tightness. Air is sucked through them, which leads to the appearance of air congestion. Most often, a similar phenomenon is observed in winter - sharp temperature changes compress and unclench the rubber of the pipes.
  2. Pump. Another fairly common cause is the pump. The problem is the same - a violation of the tightness of the water pump.
  3. Valve. It is worth paying attention to the valve that is built into the expansion tank (on the lid). If it hangs, it can provoke airing.
  4. Radiator damage. Cracks can occur on the main radiator or on the auxiliary one, that is, on the heater radiator. In these situations, the probability of air lock formation is equally high.
  5. Head gasket. If it burns out, the tightness will be broken and air will begin to leak. As a result, there is a blockage in the system.

And also among the possible causes of airing or the formation of an air lock include:

  • damage to the pump blades;
  • clogging of the channels of the cylinder block;
  • radiator contamination.

Important! Before you get rid of the cork, be sure to eliminate the cause that led to the airing. Tighten the clamps, replace the gasket, clean the radiator, etc.

Problem Solving Methods

If you do not remove excess air from the system, this will lead to the following consequences:

  • increased fuel consumption;
  • low efficiency of the stove;
  • engine wear;
  • breakdowns.

Important! The laws of physics say that air tends to the highest point. When airing the stove on the VAZ-2114, this place will be the throttle assembly. So the cork should be expelled from there.

In total, there are three methods of combating airing. Each of them has its own nuances.

First method

Some perceive this method critically, but in fact it is very effective.

  1. Remove the filler cap through which the oil is poured. This will allow you to dismantle the plastic protection from the mounts (they are rubber).
  2. It is better to immediately screw the cap back on, otherwise you risk bringing excess dirt into the motor.
  3. Remove one of the tubes designed to heat the throttle. It doesn't matter which one.
  4. The expansion tank has a cap. It should also be removed.
  5. Start actively blowing into this very tank. The fact that you managed to expel the air will be indicated by antifreeze or antifreeze flowing from the dismantled pipe.
  6. Return everything as quickly as possible, twist the tube and fix the clamp. If you delay, the suction will start again and you will have to repeat the procedure.

The method is not complicated, but not everyone will agree to it. So look at alternatives.

Second method

You don't have to go anywhere here. The job is no less easy.

  1. Warm up the engine so that it reaches a temperature of about 90 degrees. After that turn off the engine.
  2. So far, the plug on the expansion tank remains there. You don't need to touch it.
  3. At the throttle assembly, remove the clamp and tube. That is, you should act similarly to the first method.
  4. Wait until all excess air has been expelled from the system. It is easy to determine this - coolant will begin to flow after a while.
  5. When the leak begins, immediately return the pipe to its place, fixing it on the fitting and tightening the clamp until it stops. Make sure that the clamp is properly tightened, otherwise the work will be in vain.

Important! In this situation, follow the antifreeze. It is hot, and therefore its exit from the system may cause hot liquid to get on your skin.

Third Method

A number of VAZ-2114 owners note that it was in this method that they found the best way to deal with the problem of airing. But it will be necessary to create certain conditions.

  1. Choose a place where you can drive the front wheels of the car so that the radiator cap is located as the highest point of your cooling system. Although the front end can simply be raised in the garage with a jack. Act at your own discretion.
  2. Remove the caps from the radiator and expansion tank.
  3. Turn on the engine. Let it warm up to 90 degrees.
  4. Actively press the gas pedal. Just make sure you don't have transmission enabled before doing this.
  5. Help will be needed, because when gasping, it is necessary to simultaneously pour coolant gradually into the reservoir. Pour until bubbles no longer form when you press the gas.

Important! Although the third method is considered easy to implement, it does not always give the desired result. So the previous two, although more difficult, but the effect of them is higher.

The problem of airing is familiar to many owners of VAZ-2114 cars. Tell us about your solution methods, share your impressions of the presented methods of dealing with air congestion. It will be interesting to learn about alternative methods and features of their implementation.

After a strong heating of the VAZ-2115 engine, the likelihood of its complete combustion increases. To prevent this from happening, it is necessary to constantly monitor the cooling system. Beginners believe that the injection mechanism does not require regulation, but this is not so - for the VAZ-2115 engine, the injector does not change anything.

To be able to independently maintain the cooling system, correct defects and breakdowns means saving a certain amount of money and time. What factors need to be controlled by the device of the VAZ-2115 cooling system?

  1. Correct operation of all components.
  2. The degree of tightness.

If there is at least one of the problems listed above, it's time to start repairing. It is not worth delaying the repair work - the engine is too expensive to conduct experiments with it, and even more so to wait for its combustion.

How the VAZ-2115 cooling system works

The VAZ-2115 has the same cooling system as in other injection-type cars. The principle of operation is based on heat exchange, which occurs with the help of a liquid. The latter can be antifreeze, cooling antifreeze, in extreme cases, water, although experts do not recommend using the latter option.

The cooling system circuit built into the VAZ-2115 consists of the following key components, indicated in the photo:

  • electric motor;
  • pump - ensures the movement of the filled liquid throughout the system;
  • radiator;
  • thermostat - regulates the activity of all components of the structure.

The circulation through the pipes of the coolant is provided by a centrifugal pumping device. Enabling and disabling the sensor depends on the values shown by the sensor.

The temperature regime available in the VAZ-2115 is also important. If the indicators exceed the set 87 degrees, the following occurs:

  • the thermostat valve comes into action and opens;
  • the cooling liquid enters a large circulation circle, which involves passing through pipes through the engine and cooling the latter;
  • the fan comes into operation, it begins to supply air flow to the radiator grill, and this helps to reduce the temperature.

Among all the components of the cooling system, experts call the most important, without which the whole mechanism could not work properly - this is a valve coming from the thermostat. The item consists of technical wax, deformed under certain temperatures. This is how the volume of coolant supply is ensured, the intensity of cooling is regulated.

Causes of breakdowns in the VAZ-2115 cooling system

Nothing lasts forever, so the cooling system can also break down. Every motorist can deal with a malfunction, it’s easy to do it yourself, especially since you now know how the VAZ-2115 cooling device circuit looks and works.

The VAZ 2114 car uses a hidden cooling system that operates on the basis of a special fluid. A mechanical pump moves this coolant through the system.

Alas, the build quality of the VAZ 2114 radiator and the entire cooling system as a whole leaves much to be desired, because over time it can fail. The main disadvantage of the OS (cooling system) of the "fourteenth" model is the need for constant monitoring, regular maintenance and repair.

The solution of these issues is complicated by the fact that the scheme of the injection engine cooling system on the VAZ 2114 is quite complex and includes 28 elements. It is most convenient to get acquainted with them on a special schedule.

The cooling system of the VAZ 2114 operates on the basis of internal heat transfer, which is carried out under the influence of a coolant. It moves forcibly thanks to the pump, which is activated by the drive belt. The mixture enters the OS through the expansion tank.

The electric fan is mounted on the motor shaft. Depending on the sensor readings, it turns on or off. One of the main elements of the OS is thermostatic valve with accumulator which senses changes in air temperature.

If the liquid temperature is about 87 degrees, the main valve turns on and starts the liquid along the large circuit. At a temperature of 102 degrees, the valve stops at 8 mm.

Replacing the coolant

To normalize the cooling system on the VAZ 2114, it is sometimes enough to replace the cooling fluid. To determine when this needs to be done, you should know some of the nuances:

  • The period of effective operation of antifreeze is 2 years, and antifreeze - 5 years;
  • Usually, antifreeze replacement is required at a range of 20-40 thousand kilometers, depending on operating conditions;
  • The changed color of the composition indicates that it needs to be replaced.

Experts recommend using as a liquid antifreeze, since it has a long service life and does not wear out the system so intensively. In favor antifreeze says only its affordable price.

Before filling with new fluid, the system should be flushed. For this:

  • Drain all available coolant from the system;
  • Plugs are tightly screwed;
  • Pour high-quality distilled water to the maximum;
  • Start the engine and bring it to operating temperature;
  • Turnover should be about 3 thousand. Avoid engine overheating;
  • After turning off the engine, the car is left for 7 minutes, after which the water is drained. If the system is heavily contaminated, the procedure must be repeated until completely clean distillate begins to pour out.

Why the OS doesn't work

The cooling system most often stops working due to a malfunctioning thermostat. There is nothing you can do other than replace it.

If you don’t know which cooling radiator is better to choose for the VAZ 2114, look at the existing one. Buy an analogue from the manufacturer, or purchase a device with the closest possible characteristics.

The fourteenth model is equipped with an aluminum radiator with two additional tanks. The design of the radiator includes:

  • Radiator;
  • Upper tank with nozzles;
  • Bottom tank with pipes.

Radiator replacement

If it becomes necessary to replace the radiator, remember the first golden rule - the engine must be cold before dismantling the device. Therefore, if you just arrived at the garage, let the car stand for a couple of hours. Better yet, leave the car and come back tomorrow.

The replacement procedure itself is as follows.

  1. Unscrew the plug from the expansion tank and the cylinder and radiator plugs.
  2. Drain the coolant into a large container.
  3. Disconnect the radiator vent system from the battery.
  4. Remove the silicone pipes of the VAZ 2114 cooling system by disconnecting them from the radiator and tank.
  5. Remove the mounting bolts from the casing.
  6. While holding the heatsink, remove the skin and fan together.
  7. So you fully free the radiator, so you can replace it with a new one without any problems.
  8. The assembly of the node is carried out in the reverse order. At the end of the radiator replacement, start the engine and check the efficiency of the new unit.

Radiator repair

In some cases, the radiator can be repaired, so you do not have to buy a new spare part.

Mostly repair work consists in eliminating leaks that have arisen as a result of the appearance of defects, cracks and holes.

Most often, the liquid flows out at the junction of plastic and metal parts. With a small leak, you can pour a special liquid with a coolant mixture inside the radiator. Due to the special composition, this tool will clog the defects that caused the leak. In case of serious damage, repairs will no longer save the situation; you will still have to change the radiator.

To check the tightness of the radiator, you can conduct a simple experiment at home.

  1. Fill the bathroom with enough water to submerge the radiator.
  2. Close tightly all openings of the nozzles.
  3. Lower the radiator under water by about 30-50 centimeters. Apply a pressure of 0.2 MPa to it.
  4. Follow what will happen. If bubbles appear, the system is not tight and needs to be repaired or replaced.

Do not even try to repair the radiator after side or frontal impacts in an accident. In such situations, he suffers in the first place, and no blocking liquids will help you.

Problems with the thermostat

The thermostat sensor is responsible for maintaining the required temperature of the system. It allows you to close the access of coolant to the inside of the radiator until the engine warms up to the optimum temperature. It is about 90 degrees Celsius.

When the temperature reaches 95 degrees Celsius, the liquid begins to flow through the thermostat. Due to the operation of this unit, the engine requires a minimum of time and resources to warm up. The thermostat is located between the radiator and the engine.

Most often there are two types of faults.

  1. The valve closes. If the engine is not warmed up, the speed is held with difficulty. He can simply choke.
  2. The valve opens. During the period of frost, you can operate the car, but you need to turn on the heating at maximum speed. Otherwise, the power unit will simply overheat.

If you are unable to move the valve while repairing the thermostat, do not be afraid to lightly hit the body with a simple screwdriver. This will solve a common problem.

When the thermostat is completely disassembled, the pipes are hermetically sealed, which will prevent leakage of coolant. Only after that you can start working.

In general, the choice between antifreeze and antifreeze should not be a problem for you. Choose antifreeze. Although it costs more, it lasts longer and minimizes possible problems with the wear of the cooling system. Imaginary savings due to antifreeze is not in vain called so. In the future, you will pay much more for the elimination of those breakdowns caused by the use of antifreeze.
