Skoda Yeti: detailed review. The Skoda Yeti crossover became one of the participants in our large SUV test along with the Ford EcoSport and Suzuki Vitara. How Yeti can please its owner

The Czech car Skoda Yeti was released in 2009. This is a compact family crossover with an unusual appearance. Moreover, the cute appearance of the car does not at all correspond to the terrifying name of the car. Today we will analyze this model in detail and answer the question in our review: is the Skoda Yeti a beauty or a beast?

Which Skoda Yeti engine is better?

Yeti has many interesting engines. Among them is the most common 1.2 liter TSI (with a turbine), which produces 105 horsepower. There is also an internal combustion engine 1.4 liter TSI, 122 hp. s., and classic atmospheric 1.6 liters, 110 l. With.

The most interesting engine is for the all-wheel drive version - 1.8 liter TSI with 152 hp. With. In combination with a 6-speed manual transmission or DSG (“robot”), the car can easily overcome simple mud or snowy areas. At the same time, it “eats” gasoline sparingly—on average, about 10 liters of mixed consumption. Acceleration for this engine is good - up to 100 km/h for the manual it takes only 8.4 seconds, and for the “robot” - 9 seconds.

How the chassis works

The model comes in front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is provided by an electronically controlled Heldex clutch. At speeds of up to 30 km/h, it automatically controls the connection of the rear axle depending on road conditions.

There is a MacPherson strut suspension at the front and a multi-link at the rear. Together they allow you to smoothly overcome uneven surfaces and confidently maneuver on the highway. A short wheelbase of 4222 mm and sufficient ground clearance of 180 mm help you feel no less confident off-road.

Will it be comfortable in the Yeti: interior, equipment, options

As many as 9 airbags are responsible for passive safety in the car. This includes a knee airbag for the driver and one common airbag for rear passengers.

The backs of the rear seats can be folded independently of each other - each of the three independently. In addition, the central part can be removed altogether by moving the two side chairs towards the center. Thus, we get a four-seater car with a comfortable width for two passengers.

Since we have a modern car, even the “standard” one has everything necessary from electronic systems: ABS, EBD, EBA, ASR, etc., which help to avoid accidents.

Depending on the configuration, the Skoda Yeti may have a fully leather, combined or fabric interior. And in the highest version, bi-xenon headlights, a rain sensor, cruise control, dual-zone climate control, parking sensors, full power accessories, multimedia with navigation and even a parking assistant are available.

How much does a Skoda Yeti cost?

The average cost of a Skoda Yeti, according to Avto.ru price statistics, is 606,100 rubles.

For this money you can, for example, buy a front-wheel drive 2014 model with a 1.2 liter gasoline engine and a manual transmission:

But the most popular modification is the model with a 1.2-liter gasoline engine producing 105 hp. c. and manual transmission:

You can buy such a Skoda from 470 thousand rubles (2011 model) to 1,440,000 rubles (2017 model).

On average, the Yeti loses 10% of its value every year. So, for example, a two-year-old car will cost 980 thousand rubles, and a 3-year-old car will cost 856 thousand.

What attracts "Yeti"

Car enthusiasts in their reviews of the Skoda Yeti note the car’s good handling. The assembly is high quality. The salon is decorated with high-quality materials. Sound insulation is excellent.

Abnormal malfunctions rarely occur. And if you have to repair something, then buying spare parts is not a problem. The stores have both original and non-original parts. All-wheel drive, although not a panacea for any dirt, helps to overcome snowy and muddy roads.

What disadvantages and problems do Skoda Yeti owners mention?

All of the above advantages are indirectly confirmed by a small set of weaknesses. Where can we get away from them? The ideal car has not yet been invented. Cons of the Skoda Yeti:

  • Poor quality paintwork. Already during the warranty period, doors may peel off.
  • The trunk of the Skoda Yeti is small, only 405 liters. Only a couple of suitcases will fit here.
  • The Heldex drive connection system requires periodic maintenance if the vehicle is often off-road.
  • Due to the wide threshold, it is inconvenient to get into the car in slushy weather.
  • Fabric upholstery gets dirty quickly and is difficult to clean.

The biggest problem is with oil consumption. Thus, the 1.8 engine on models before 2011 consumes a lot of oil - about 1 liter per 10,000 km. This needs to be monitored closely. After all, oil starvation can damage any internal combustion engine.

Residents of the north should also take into account poor interior heating. According to some reviews, at a temperature of -20 degrees, it takes about 30 minutes in motion or about 5 km to warm up the interior.

What Yeti is hiding on the secondary market

Over the past 30 days, 2,471 Skoda Yeti cars have been checked through the Autocode online service. Among the selectively reviewed reports, the most common are cars with road accidents - 7 out of 20. It is much less common to find unpaid fines. Of the 20 randomly selected reports, not a single one contained pledges and traffic police restrictions. Let's look at one of the reports from our database:

We see two recorded accidents and 10 settlements from insurance companies. Some reconstruction calculations show that the accidents were serious. Here are just some of them:

So handsome or beast?

Now let’s answer the main question of the article. The externally non-standard model certainly attracts buyers. That is, here “Yeti” is definitely handsome. The advantages are added by good handling, high-quality assembly and ease of repair. In addition, this is one of the safest cars. In independent crash tests by Euro NCAP, it received the maximum rating of five stars out of five.

But when buying such a car, be careful. Not every car sold can turn out to be as great as its owners describe it. Therefore, in order not to buy a “monster” - a Skoda Yeti with a lot of problems, check the car’s history before purchasing.

Video review of Skoda Yeti I

Which crossover would you like to read a review of? Leave your opinion in the comments to the text.

The Czech automobile company Skoda took a serious and responsible approach to the design and preparation for serial production of its first crossover, the Skoda Yeti. Having shown the Yeti Concept prototype back at the 2005 Geneva Motor Show, the Czechs spent four long years bringing their brainchild to perfect condition.

The premiere of the serial crossover Skoda Yeti took place in 2009 there, on the shores of Lake Geneva. Regular visitors to the exhibition were able to note a pleasant fact - the production-ready Czech SUV managed to retain the original appearance of the Four-year-old Yeti Concept.
In Russia, car enthusiasts were able to see the first crossover from Škoda in the fall of 2009, when the car appeared in car showrooms. Almost three years have passed since the start of sales, which is enough time to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the car. As part of the review, we will try to find out whether the Czech company Skoda managed to successfully “bake” its first crossover and whether it turned out to be “lumpy”.

From the moment of its debut to this day, the appearance of the Skoda Yeti has not undergone any changes. The front of the car has four original headlights, round ones serve as daytime running lights and double as foglights, rectangular segments are responsible for low and high beams. The radiator grille is designed in the Skoda family style and is decorated with a chrome strip on top, a powerful bumper with a lower air duct framed by a silver frame. When viewed from the front, the Skoda Yeti is recognizable and original; it is impossible to confuse the Czech crossover with another car even in the dark.
In profile, the Yeti SUV demonstrates the organic image of a station wagon, raised high above the road. The sloping hood and powerful wheel arches with characteristic stampings easily accommodate tires on 215/60 R16 or 225/50 R17 wheels. Large glass area, high and flat roof, vertical rear part. Calm and strict, complete absence of aggression, every line and bend of the body is aimed at functionality and practicality.
The crossover looks compact, and its external dimensions confirm this. With body dimensions of length - 4223 mm, width - 1793 mm, height - 1691 mm and wheelbase dimensions - 2578 mm, the car is smaller than its main competitors Kia Sportage, SsangYong Actyon, Suzuki Grand Vitara and even Nissan Qashqai. The ground clearance of the Skoda Yeti, according to the manufacturer, is 180 mm; in real conditions, measurements show other figures - 165-167 mm, which will not be enough even for an SUV. The approach angle also turned out to be very small, only 18.5 degrees (the front bumper can easily be torn off). I'm glad that the exhaust system and transmission are located in the cavity of the central tunnel, there is protection for the engine compartment, the bottom is flat with polymer coating, the only concerns are the strongly protruding rear suspension arms and the gas tank.

The rear of the crossover has a large and comfortable tailgate, a bumper made of unpainted plastic with an insert at the bottom a la a diffuser, and neat side lamps. An original solution in the form of contrasting (black) rear roof pillars to the main color, along with large side and rear windows, gives the car lightness and makes the interior brighter.

Let’s summarize the appearance data and the readiness of the Skoda Yeti body for driving off the asphalt surface. The car is compact and well-built. We can safely say it’s stylish, the quality of the bodywork and anti-corrosion treatment are correct in German, the elements of the transmission and chassis are protected from off-road surprises, but... before leaving the hard surface, think again and calculate the trajectory of the geometric cross-country ability.

The interior of the Skoda Yeti is well assembled from high-quality materials, but over time, interior elements begin to creak when driving over uneven roads. The driver's seat has hard padding, widely spaced lateral support bolsters (thin owners lack body support in corners) and an upright seating position. Getting a perfect seat behind the wheel is a difficult task; even in a car equipped with an electric driver's seat, your back gets tired on a long journey.
The steering wheel is of optimal size with telescopic adjustment for height and depth, the instruments in two separate wells are beautiful and informative, and the on-board computer screen is located between them. The front dashboard and center console are of a classic configuration, the placement of controls is logical and does not cause problems of long getting used to.
The basic Active version, however, only has audio preparation, but with the next Ambition configuration for the Skoda Yeti, a 2DIN radio with CD MP3 and 8 speakers is available, in rich Elegance music with a Maxi Dot multifunctional color display. The two initial trim levels are equipped with air conditioning, and the maximum trim level is equipped with dual-zone climate control.
The first row seats are heated and microlift. In the second row, thanks to the VarioFlex system (longitudinal adjustment and tilt of the backrest of the side seats, folding the seats and complete dismantling), three passengers with a height of 190 cm can comfortably accommodate. There is enough space for both legs and head. But the high transmission tunnel will interfere with those sitting in the center. The middle chair can be removed altogether, and the two side chairs can be moved closer to the center (there is room for both).

The trunk of the Skoda Yeti crossover is small by the standards of the class and can accommodate from 405 to 510 liters (depending on the position of the rear seats) with five passengers. Folding the rear row we get 1580 liters, and removing the rear seats from the cabin - 1760 liters of usable volume.
Inside, the Skoda Yeti is cozy and comfortable; getting in and out of the car is convenient thanks to the wide doors that open to a wide angle, but there are some small shortcomings. Owners complain about the small glove box, miniature rear-view mirrors, quickly dirty sills (they saved on rubber door seals) and the glass of the fifth door.

If we talk about the technical characteristics of the Skoda Yeti, then this Czech crossover is built on the Skoda Octavia platform, from its sister company Yeti it inherited a completely independent suspension (MacPherson strut in front, multi-link in the rear), all-wheel drive transmission with a Haldex clutch (4th generation).
The Skoda Yeti crossover for the Russian market is available with three gasoline engines:

  • 1.2 TSI (105 hp) with 6 manual gearboxes or 7 automatic gearboxes (DSG) and front-wheel drive, acceleration to 100 km/h in 11.8 (12.0) seconds with a top speed of 175 (173) km/h, average fuel consumption 6.4 (6.6) liters. From owner reviews, the average fuel consumption is 1-1.5 liters more, it all depends on the driving style. The initial engine of 105 “horses” is clearly not enough for a car weighing under 1400 kg; many owners reflash the engine control unit and increase the engine output to 120 hp. (the car becomes “more lively”, fuel consumption remains at the same level).
  • 1.4 TSI (122 hp) with 6 manual gearboxes (or DSG) and front-wheel drive, dynamics up to “hundreds” in 10.5 seconds. at “maximum speed” 185 km/h, average fuel consumption is 6.8 liters.
  • 1.8 TSI (152 hp) with 6 manual gearboxes or 6 automatic gearboxes (DSG) and an all-wheel drive system, the most powerful engine installed on the crossover provides acceleration to 100 km/h in 8.7 (9.0) seconds, with a maximum speed 196 (192) km/h, fuel consumption in mixed operating mode is 8.0 liters. This is a truly crossover, with a powerful and torquey engine, and most importantly, with all-wheel drive and an Off-road mode that helps on descents.

We won’t talk for long about the off-road potential of the Czech Skoda Yeti; the car is really poorly suited for storming rough terrain. And many owners do not risk leaving the hard surface of the road; city crossovers, to which the hero of our review belongs, are a class of cars artificially created by marketers.
Here is the asphalt for the Skoda Yeti - this is the native element, the car demonstrates excellent handling and informative steering, the rigid and short-travel suspension sensitively holds the road at almost any speed, and how pleasant it is to take turns in the Yeti... It’s a thrill, it feels like you’re behind the wheel hot hatchback. The suspension settings, of course, make themselves felt when passing speed bumps, especially in the rear of the car.

To summarize our review, I would like to say that the Yeti turned out to be distinctive and original, with modern technical features and a cozy interior that provides a lot of opportunities for transformation.

Let’s say right away that the Skoda Yeti is assembled at the factories in Mlada Boleslavl (Czech Republic) and GAZ (Nizhny Novgorod). In 2012, the price of the Skoda Yeti for the Russian market starts at 739,000 rubles for the Active package (1.2 TSI / 105 hp with 6 manual gearboxes, which includes: air conditioning, audio preparation, Servotronic power steering, tires on steel wheels 215/60 R16 ).
The cost of the Skoda Yeti 4x4 1.8 TSI (152 hp) with 6 automatic transmission (DSG) in the rich Elegance package starts from 1,089,000 rubles (climate control, Maxi Dot display, tires on Dolomite 225/50 R17 alloy wheels, cruise control, parking sensors ).
By ordering additional options in the form of a leather interior, a navigator, bi-xenon headlights, a parking assistant and other “tricks”, we will raise the price of the 2012 Skoda Yeti to almost 1,500,000 rubles.

Owner reviews

The best car in terms of price-quality ratio. We purchased a new one to replace the Kia Ceed, on which my wife regularly crushed the sills a couple of times a year. The high suspension completely solved the problem. After the Korean, who was very good and reliable, the Skoda is simply a different level of comfort. I’m incredibly happy with the car and I don’t plan to change it in the coming years, well, if only for a Kodiak, when it goes on sale.

So, the advantages. Very economical and at the same time dynamic, and the savings consist not only of low fuel consumption (10-12 liters in the city and 7-7.5 liters on the highway), but also in the low cost of CASCO.

The car is very comfortable, quiet and convenient. The most affordable price among all crossovers of this level. Excellent handling, although a little at the expense of the softness of the suspension.

Now for the shortcomings. My instrument panel creaked, and such cases are not fixed under warranty, so I had to deal with it myself. Very modest trunk. The steering wheel is too heavy for women, and there is no option to install a servo on the heavy tailgate.

Video review

I am 56 years old and this is my personal 5th car (including foreign cars). Moved from a Chevrolet Lacetti station wagon (1.6 l). I am 100 percent or more satisfied with the Skoda Yeti. I did not expect such controllability and cross-country ability.

After running around Nizhny Novgorod (about 1,000 km), I went with my wife and luggage to Abkhazia along the M4 Don highway. I didn’t force the engine, I’m happy with the car. Sometimes when overtaking (after 110 km/h in 5th gear) there was not enough power, but again this is above the speed limit on our roads. On the way back (mileage about 3,500 km) the engine became faster. Sometimes I would start in 3rd gear and not stall. If you don't be Schumacher, the car is great. As for consumption, on the highway I got about 6.3 l/100 km.

Among the shortcomings, I note that the position of the gear knob is not very clearly visible, especially when starting off (1st or 3rd). Although the instrument monitor indicates a number - gear, but after 38 years of driving, I have become accustomed to shifting by touch, without looking.

Review of Skoda Yeti 1.6 (110 hp) with mechanics 2016

The car is practical and easy to use. I've driven almost 40,000 km, and the brake pads (both front and rear) are only half used. The noise level is impressive for this class. It is also worth noting the high ground clearance and the ability to operate the car both in the city and in rural areas.

The disadvantages include the small trunk capacity. In addition, the car gets dirty quickly.

Where can I buy?

I purchased this miracle in the fall of 2016, and was happy like a child for the time being.

Advantages:

— Appearance, of course, is not for everyone.

— There are a lot of options, all-wheel drive and a transformable interior.

— The car itself is nimble and compact.

Flaws:

— Maybe I’m being picky, but a gasoline engine should warm up faster, I compare it with the previous Kia Cerato, which faithfully served me and my family for 5 years.

— After washing, I discovered a swelling of the paintwork on the left rear door, and only 3.5 months of ownership have passed! I contacted the dealer under warranty and am waiting for the manufacturer's verdict.

— Added to all of the above is the creaking of the driver’s door in the area of the left ear, it seems like a trifle, but it’s so annoying... I read on the forums about this cricket: the velvet seal on top of the door rubs the doorway, can be treated by rubbing soap! Damn... a car for 1,380,000 rubles...

Review of Skoda Yeti 1.8 (152 hp) with robot and all-wheel drive 2016

So, let's get straight to the point. What I don't like:

1. Engine! I read a lot that TSI engines do not warm up when parked in cold weather, but only warm up when driving. This is true. Compared to any of my previous cars, it was not possible to arrange Tashkent in the cabin at -28 degrees. Firstly, the electronics operating algorithm does not spoil the engine with warm-up speeds. That is, when the “Japanese” starts at -5, for the first 10 minutes the engine runs at speeds of more than 1,000, and as it warms up they drop to 800.

Nobody cares about this temperature at all. At -25 it warmed up a little, but that’s nothing. It’s not that cold in the car, but... in general, I don’t take off my hat on regular trips around the city.

2. Uncomfortable driver's seat. Gentlemen, this is some kind of perversion. For 3 weeks I still could not find a comfortable position for the driver's seat. I’m constantly moving something back and forth little by little, now I’ll sit this way, now that way... my leg will go numb, my back will hurt... Adjusting the steering wheel for reach is frankly NOT ENOUGH. With my height of 190 cm, I want to move the seat further away, but then it’s too far to the steering wheel.

And now for the good stuff:

1. Skoda has an awesome folding shovel! The shovel can be taken out and assembled in 30 seconds, it is light, strong and easy to use!

2. Cool xenon and cornering lights. When turned on, the xenon flashes its beams, explaining to everyone in Czech that it is adaptive and very bright.

3. Heated lobovukha – I’ve been dreaming about this for a long time. Must have in Siberia!

4. Awesome three-spoke leather steering wheel (optional, of course).

5. Engine! It pulls well throughout the entire rev range, there are no dips, the transmission shifts very clearly and very quickly. It’s a pity, now there is no way to properly evaluate the acceleration speed - it’s slippery... Plus, at first I decided not to load it more than 3 thousand revolutions, let it be like a break-in.

6. Box! DSG is the theme! Clearly, no kicks or jerks. Switches very quickly! The work of the engine and gearbox combination is delightful!

7. Suspension. Of course, it’s a little short-stroke, it breaks easily, but this is all for the sake of controllability. It rides very well for its height, roll in corners is minimal.

Review of Skoda Yeti 1.8 (152 hp) with polygon drive on DSG robot, 2016.

And the 1.2 engine really drives the Yeti! Of course, for the first 1,500 km the manual does not recommend operating it at more than ¾ of the maximum, but this is quite enough for my wife! The suspension is elastic, but not hard. I don't like potholes in the asphalt! But the dirt and crushed stone road to the dacha is swallowed very well.

Box. Opinions vary. Some say that DSG is bullshit, others say that they don’t notice the smoothest shifting, but I don’t care. Yes, this is a robotic gearbox with a double dry clutch, but the gears change automatically, quite smoothly, which is the main thing for my wife in the city, but in winter or in the mountains I can indulge in manual shifting for engine braking.

Well, what else can I tell you? The tank is 60 liters, it is set to 95, the manual does not prohibit both 92 and 98, with the caveat that power is lost at 92. The average consumption in the city now, believe it or not, is 6.7 liters! This is during the run-in, with a gentle driving mode.

There is plenty of space on the back seat. The backrest is adjustable in tilt, you can also move it back and forth, and you can also completely remove the rear seats from the car. The trunk is not huge, but enough for shopping. There are different fastening hooks and nets. The spare tire is stock.

Review of Skoda Yeti 1.2 with robot 2010

As part of the “creeping expansion” strategy, the Volkswagen concern is trying to obtain approximately equal shares of the automobile market in the budget, mid-price and premium segments, which is why many models exist in two or even three forms at once

Of course, these models have different exteriors, and due to different positioning they differ from each other in the choice of power units and additional equipment, although from a technical point of view such cars are identical. This is clearly seen in the example of compact crossovers - in the premium segment there is the Audi Q3 model, in the middle range there is the Volkswagen Tiguan, and in the budget (in the European sense) class there is the Skoda Yeti.

If we arrange their appearance in chronological order, then the first to appear in 2007 was the ancestor - the Volkswagen Tiguan, in 2011 - the premium Audi Q3, and our hero - the Skoda Yeti - saw the light exactly between them, in 2009. Choosing a reference point for young buyers, the designers gave the Yeti a slightly avant-garde look, which did not have the best effect on sales in countries with conservative tastes - in Russia these cars are sold almost half as much as the Tiguan, despite the fact that the cost of the Czech car is about a third lower.

However, perhaps, in light of the current economic situation, the situation will improve, since for the last two years the model has been of Russian “origin” - at the end of 2012, large-unit assembly of the Skoda Yeti began at the GAZ sites in Nizhny Novgorod, and from the beginning of 2013 it started there full production cycle.

In addition, in 2013, the model was restyled, during which its appearance was removed from excessive avant-gardeism and brought into line with the new corporate image of the models of this brand. However, the updated version is still quite rare on the secondary market, but there are many offers of pre-restyling cars that are quite affordable. In choosing a suitable vehicle, we will be helped by the advice of auto expert Elena Lisovskaya, head of the trade-in department of the Revolt company.

Motor selection

In order not to create internal competition and to emphasize the positioning of the Skoda Yeti a step lower than the Volkswagen Tiguan, the engines of the Czech car have a “glass” smaller displacement. If the main engines of the German crossover are gasoline engines of 1.4 and 2 liters, then for the “Czech” it is 1.2 and 1.8 liters, respectively. However, competition did arise, since there was only one 2-liter diesel engine for everyone. Perhaps this is why the Czech car was equipped with it only until the end of 2010, and again the heavy fuel power unit appeared only in the rebuilt model.

It is extremely rare to find a Skoda Yeti with a diesel engine on the secondary market, but we must immediately warn you that this engine is characterized by jamming of the throttle valve and the intake manifold flap in the open position due to wear of the plastic gear in its drive system. This happens with a mileage of more than 200 thousand km, and the problem can be diagnosed by a squeezed out throttle cover. A new throttle assembly will cost 8000-9000 rubles for the original and 3000-4000 rubles for a non-original one, the intake manifold will cost 24-27 thousand rubles. Replacement work costs 2000-3000 rubles.

However, if you are looking for a Skoda Yeti in an all-wheel drive version, then the choice is small: either a diesel engine or a 1.8-liter gasoline engine, which existed in the BZB and CDA modifications. BZB motors assembled before mid-2010 have one unpleasant feature - the timing chain jumps after a mileage of more than 70-100 thousand km. The culprit is the chain tensioner. One of the accompanying reasons for this is the situation in which the car is parked on a slope with the gear engaged, but without the handbrake. At this moment, the engine is not running, there is no oil pressure in the system and the chain tensioner is weakened, and the injection pump pusher contributes to the formation of a chain fold in the area of the camshafts. When starting the engine, the tensioner does not have time to tension the chain, and it slips.

The 1.8 TSI engine with the CDA index is famous for its increased oil consumption (up to 1 liter per 2000-3000 km) with a mileage of over 50-80 thousand km. At the end of 2011, a repair kit was released, including modernized pistons and rings. On cars where it is installed, the problem of increased oil consumption has practically become obsolete.

A design feature of the 1.8 TSI engine is the presence of an accelerated catalyst heating system. During the first minute after start-up, additional fuel is injected during the exhaust stroke, which ensures rapid heating of the catalyst and more efficient afterburning of fuel during the warm-up stage. The sound of the engine at this moment becomes “diesel”, but do not be alarmed - this is normal.

The most common 1.2 TSI gasoline engine can also “please” with the same sound, but in this case such a harsh sound is a sign of a malfunction - stretching of the timing chain and a failed tensioner. As a rule, the problem appears after a mileage of 25 thousand km. In 2011, the unit was modernized, and, according to the manufacturer, the problem has now been resolved.

Another problem with this engine is a sharp drop in power when the car starts to move, while the engine hits the limiter at around 1500 rpm and the “Check Engine” light comes on. This happened with a mileage of more than 20-50 thousand km, and the reason lay in the turbocharger. Initially, dealers replaced the turbine, the cost of which was about 45-60 thousand rubles. Later, the manufacturer found a simpler way to combat this scourge: installing an additional spacer washer in the turbocharger and reprogramming the engine control unit. Rewiring the “brains” also solved another problem - slow warming up of the engine and, as a result, the car’s interior. Only at the beginning of 2012 was an additional electric heater introduced into the ventilation system, which partly resolved this issue.

Other hardware

A manual gearbox can be paired with either engine, but problems arise with it when combined with the 1.8 TSI. More often, this is an unpleasant squeal when driving under load or tension, which is caused by a worn out clutch disc. This happens with a mileage of at least 80-100 thousand km, and replacing the clutch assembly will cost about 30 thousand rubles.

The robotic DSG 6 with a wet clutch is paired with the 1.8 TSI engine and is considered quite reliable, while all other engines have to make do with the DSG 7 with dry clutches, the problems of which are widely known. But it would not be amiss to remind you that it is recommended to change the oil in such a box every 60 thousand km, which costs about 10 thousand rubles (6000 rubles for oil, 1000 rubles for filter and 3000 rubles for labor).

In the basic configuration, the Skoda Yeti is front-wheel drive, and in more expensive trim levels, the all-wheel drive system in the car is controlled by a fourth-generation Haldex clutch. The main thing in it is not to forget to change the oil every 60 thousand km. If this is neglected, the electric booster pump may fail, the repair kit for which will cost 10 thousand rubles.

The only weak point in the Skoda Yeti suspension is the play of the silent blocks of the front levers, which is accompanied by a noticeable squeak. The cost of the assembled lever is about 7,000 rubles.

Front brake pads last more than 30-40 thousand km. A set of new original ones will cost 2500-3000 rubles. Non-original ones are cheaper - from 1000 to 1500 rubles. The rear brake pads last more than 80 thousand km.

The most unexpected and unpleasant complaint is about the quality of the body hardware and paint of the Skoda Yeti. Already after the first winter season, the paint swells at the chipped areas - this most often happens on the doors and in the area of the rear wheel arches. During the warranty period, dealers repaint such body parts, but then these procedures will have to be done at their own expense. So the advice from the popular movie “Yeti needs to be washed more often!” could not be more relevant, especially after driving through winter streets treated with reagents. However, after two or three years of operation, the emblems on the hood and tailgate still begin to peel off, and the chrome on the radiator grille bar also darkens. But even chrome interior elements located in “greenhouse” conditions gradually lose their coating.

It’s not for nothing that the Skoda Yeti got its name, which is consonant with the name of Bigfoot. This is a reliable and confident SUV with excellent driving characteristics. Besides, the designers did a good job on it. The result is an original, modern and recognizable design. In 2013, a restyled Skoda Yeti model was released. The modernization did not affect the overall body structure. But some details were changed and finalized.

In profile the car looks no less attractive. Volumetric wheel arches immediately attract attention. The lower part of the body is complemented by a plastic body kit. Along the side, there are clear, curved lines that complement the overall style of this SUV. There are two spoilers on the roof; in some trim levels the roof is equipped with a panoramic sunroof.
The rear of the body also looks interesting. The triangle containing the license plate area immediately attracts attention.

In general, the exterior design of the car is intended to become an expression of the place in which the Skoda Yeti will spend most of its time. These are the features of a city SUV. Since this style is leading, characteristic details such as moldings, body kits and others are painted in body color.

The manufacturer made a gift to fans of the model. For even greater expression of individuality, the body can now be painted in two colors: one shade is offered for the roof and another for the body. Moreover, both colors complement each other perfectly.
The overall dimensions of the Skoda Yeti crossover are as follows: length – 4.223 meters, width – 1.793 meters, height – 1.691 meters.

Skoda Yeti interior

The compact Skoda Yeti SUV model is of great interest to many enthusiasts. The car is undoubtedly versatile and has excellent dynamic characteristics, which is reflected in the interior design. The interior space of the car amazes with its spaciousness and some airiness. This impression is created by the windows, panoramic roof and side elements, which are large enough for a compact crossover. If we compare this model with others in this class, then it can confidently be called the most spacious and roomy. This result was achieved thanks to a well-thought-out body design and smart use of free space.

In this model, the developers tried to take into account all the details in order to create maximum comfort inside the cabin. This includes a comfortable seating position, comfortable seats and steering wheel, as well as excellent visibility in all directions. The steering wheel is very comfortable, you can say that you control it only with your fingertips.

For interior decoration, only high-quality materials are used, which were selected with special care. The interior space not only has a noble and luxurious style, but is also well equipped.
It is worth noting the convenient location of the sensors on the instrument panel, thanks to which the driver can quickly and conveniently view the necessary data.

The car is equipped with modern electronic systems, including an entertainment system. Thanks to it, the cabin will have the perfect sound of your favorite compositions. The new model also has a rear view camera.
A plastic tray is available as an additional option for the luggage compartment. The volume of the trunk itself is small and amounts to 322 liters. But it can be easily increased by folding the rear seats. Then it will be equal to 1760 liters, which is already quite a lot.

As for safety, the car is equipped with electronic systems that help in driving the car and airbags. There are also special mounts for child seats in the cabin.
