VDS-3 specification for oils used in all Euro-3 Volvo Truck engines.

The debut FH series from Volvo appeared eight years ago, the second generation of these trucks was released three years later. In 1998, Volvo FH12 cars (the number means engine displacement) underwent a major upgrade - in particular, they began to be equipped with electronically controlled brakes. It was the FH12 model that was twice awarded the highest title of "Truck of the Year" (in 1994 and 2000). Since the release of the first Volvo FH, the number of vehicles that have rolled off the assembly line has exceeded 250,000, and on their basis the production of hooded tractors has been established in the USA, Australia and South America.

The Volvo FH series trucks are purpose-built for long haul. Thanks to their power, they get the job done quickly and efficiently, ensuring driving comfort and low fuel consumption. Various design options (a car with a body or a truck tractor) allow you to choose the best option for performing certain tasks.

The following general characteristics of Volvo FH trucks should be noted:

  • 12.8 L 6-cylinder in-line diesel engine with turbocharger and intercooler
  • D13A engine: 400, 440, 480 and 520 hp
  • D13C engine: 420, 460, 500 and 540 hp
  • Various configurations of cabins: day, sleeping, etc.

Today, the Volvo FH12 is a car with a modern exterior and interior design, an upgraded version of the engine and an improved manual transmission. Equipping a 12-liter power unit that meets Euro-3 standards with new pump nozzles and a modified piston group made it possible to increase oil change intervals from 60,000 to 90,000 km. The Volvo FH12 is the second truck after Scania to be equipped with a turbocompound engine. With the help of the latter, it was possible to increase engine power from 460 to 500 hp. Some Volvo FH12s are equipped with brand new 12-speed I-Shift manual transmissions with electronic control and a "joystick". In such models, there is no clutch pedal, and the box has two modes of operation: "semi-automatic" (the driver switches gears) and "full automatic" (the box itself selects the desired gear).

A modern powerful truck requires quality service using suitable engine oils. During the warranty period, you should use those oils for diesel engines and lubricants that are prescribed by the vehicle operating instructions, and after the end of the warranty period - products that meet the requirements of the automaker.

The G-Profi GT 10W-40 synthetic engine oil is ideal for post-warranty maintenance of the Volvo FH12. Its cost is lower than that of a product prescribed for a warranty period, while the operating interval is the same. This reduces maintenance costs by 20%.

G-Profi GT 10W-40 engine oil has been developed for high-performance, heavy-duty Euro 2 and Euro 3 diesel engines, including those with turbocharging, installed on mainline tractors, buses and off-road vehicles.

When used in modern diesel engines of European, Chinese and American manufacturers, the oil demonstrates the following advantages:

  • Thermal stability: the absence of high-temperature deposits improves engine cleanliness and reliability
  • High base number: Neutralizing ability is maintained even with higher sulfur content in the fuel
  • Extended service life: the oil belongs to the category of products with Long Life service confirmed by the approvals of equipment manufacturers MB, MAN, Volvo, etc.
  • High dispersing properties: carbon particles do not stick together, but are held in a state of stable suspension, thereby preventing the formation of large particles of oxidation products
  • Wear protection: Provided by the presence of high-performance anti-wear additives in the oil

With all of the above benefits, G-Profi GT 10W-40 engine oil increases the turnaround time for Volvo FH series vehicles and significantly reduces maintenance costs.

When used in modern diesel engines, G-Profi GT 10W-40 demonstrates thermal stability, oxidation stability, high dispersant and anti-wear properties.

VOLVO specialists have developed a number of recommendations, the use of which will allow you to achieve maximum efficiency from the use of lubricants:

  • It is very important to change oil and filtration systems at the time specified by the manufacturer. Every extra hour of operation of special equipment with unsuitable oil increases the percentage of contaminants in its composition. And this is the first step towards accelerating the process of wear of the power unit of the machine.
  • During the oil change process, it is very important to maintain cleanliness so as not to introduce additional sources of contaminants into the system, which will lead to negative consequences in the future.
  • Biodegradable oil is used in cases where it is very important to provide a certain level of environmental protection.
  • The lack of the required oil level in the systems is one of the reasons for the rapid failure of various systems of special equipment. It is important to monitor these indicators and timely eliminate its non-compliance with the standards.

In addition, it is important to observe safety precautions when working with machine oils, as well as be able to properly dispose of the product used.

Volvo is one of the world's leading manufacturers of commercial vehicles, trucks, buses, engines and various equipment. Previously, the concern also produced passenger cars, but in 1999 it sold this division to Ford, which then resold it to the Chinese concern Geely.

The largest concern with almost a century of history is considered one of the flagships of the global automotive industry. From the very beginning of its activity, the company paid great attention to the quality of the cars produced, which favorably distinguished its many competitors.

Today, the Volvo concern owns several well-known brands, including Renault Trucks, Mack, Nissan Diesel, etc. The automaker includes 9 companies, including the largest division of Volvo Trucks, which manufactures trucks under the Volvo brand. Powerful 6-cylinder turbocharged diesel engines (displacement 12.8 liters), a high level of comfort and safety, and economical operation have made Volvo trucks the best solution for long-haul transportation and construction work.

Since 1993, Volvo FH trucks have won the Truck of the Year award twice. Throughout its existence, this series has been subjected to technical improvements more than once: equipping the brake system with electronic control, updating the cab, and increasing the engine size.

Today, under the Volvo FH12 brand, trucks of modern design with an upgraded engine, 12-speed I-Shift manual transmission with electronic control and a joystick are produced. The design of the Volvo FH12 engines uses new unit injectors and a modified piston group, due to which the oil change interval has been increased from 60 to 90 thousand km.

Naturally, modern trucks, equipped with powerful engines and electronics, need high-quality maintenance. One of the conditions for the trouble-free operation of Volvo FH12 cars is the use of high-quality engine oils.

The list of recommended lubricants for trucks under warranty service is indicated in the instruction manual. During further operation, lubricants approved by Volvo must be used.

Synthetic engine oil is ideal for filling Volvo FH12 trucks. This product is part of the G-Family family and compares favorably with expensive Western brands in terms of price / quality ratio. G-Profi and G-Energy oils are produced by Gazpromneft-Lubricants in Italy (Bari) using modern technologies, taking into account the requirements of car manufacturers and international quality standards.

G-Profi GT 10W-40 engine oil has been technically tested on Volvo D12 engines and approved to the Volvo VDS-3 specification.
