Chevrolet cobalt ground clearance. Chevrolet Cobalt: shaking out the truth from the new "state employee". Description of technical characteristics of Chevrolet Cobalt

Chevrolet Cobalt Dimensions, this is one of the main advantages of this budget sedan. The Chevrolet Cobalt, which is less than 4.5 meters long, has a large interior due to its large wheelbase and a huge trunk.

In essence, a class B car has the interior of a class C car. And in terms of trunk size, this is a record holder. Although the Chevrolet Cobalt doesn't look big from the outside. The distance between the front and rear axles, which determines the space for passengers, is 2620 mm; for comparison, the Hyundai Solaris has 2570 mm, and the Lada Granta has 2476 mm. As they say, feel the difference. The photo of the Chevrolet Cobalt interior itself is just below.

Concerning trunk Chevrolet Cobalt, then in terms of capacity, this is generally a leader. The volume is 545 liters! This does not include the presence of a full-size spare tire under the luggage compartment floor. Granta's trunk has a volume of 520 liters, while that of Solaris is only 470 liters. In general, having a luggage compartment of more than 500 liters is already a good result. And if the rear seats are folded down, you get a very practical car for transporting whatever your heart desires. Below is a photo of the Chevrolet Cobalt trunk itself.

Ground clearance or Chevrolet Cobalt ground clearance, this is an honest 16 centimeters. Quite a decent clearance, add to this a reliable impenetrable suspension, and you get an ideal option for our roads. Below are detailed dimensions of the Chevrolet Cobalt.

Dimensions, weight, volumes, ground clearance of Chevrolet Cobalt

  • Length – 4479 mm
  • Width – 1735 mm

  • Trunk volume – 545 liters
  • Fuel tank volume – 46 liters
  • Tire size – 185/75 R14 on steel wheels, or alloy R15
  • Ground clearance of Chevrolet Cobalt – 160 mm

In general, the Chevrolet Cobalt is a budget car for avid summer residents who have a family. The main thing for such people is reliability, capacity and unpretentiousness, but the dynamic characteristics and unpretentious appearance are of little concern.

Description of technical characteristics of Chevrolet Cobalt

As can be seen from the table of technical characteristics of the Chevrolet Cobalt, different versions of this car will differ mainly in configuration, while other parameters will be the same. The only significant difference when choosing an automatic transmission is a slightly higher fuel consumption and an increase in acceleration time to “hundreds” from 11.7 seconds to 12.6 seconds, which is not very significant.

Not bad Chevrolet Cobalt ground clearance is 160 mm and spaciousness make this car a good choice for a family that often travels out of town.

All updates to the Chevrolet Cobalt 2012 technical specifications table will be displayed on our forum.

You can discuss the car on our forum, which is dedicated specifically to this model - //site/forum/. In the meantime, you can familiarize yourself with those that are on our website.

The Chevrolet Cobalt is positioned as a spacious and comfortable car. The laconic appearance of the car is combined with practicality when driving. This 1.5-liter sedan is very economical, the transmission can be either manual or automatic.

This car is ideal for difficult roads. He walks the road easily. The main thing is to choose the right speed in some areas of asphalt with holes. Good shock absorption contributes to the smooth movement of the car. The quality of the car parts is very good, despite the affordable price of the car. It serves as an alternative to other popular foreign cars.

According to its characteristics, it can easily compete with similar models at several times higher cost. After the presentation, it boldly entered the modern market and became on par with the long-known Renault Logan.

Compact yet powerful

In terms of dimensions, the Chevrolet Cobalt is located between the Chevrolet Aveo and Cruze models.

  1. The height of the car is 1514 mm, which is good for wind resistance while driving.
  2. The length of the car is 4479 mm, which is convenient for moving around the city and parking in the most impractical places with a large flow of cars.
  3. The tank is 46 liters, which is quite enough for long trips.
  4. Power is provided by 4 cylinders with a capacity of 106 hp. With.

The dimensions of the Chevrolet Cobalt sedan are developed on the basis of modern technologies, taking into account the requirements for cars.

The dimensions of the 2013 Chevrolet Cobalt have become more advanced than those of its predecessor 2010, which was discontinued. Many similarities with the 2012 model. The range of cars keeps pace with modern requirements. The beautiful design of the car appeals to both men and women. The interior is of a European level - soft and comfortable. Everyone can choose a configuration that is convenient for themselves.

A five-seater sedan is a good option for a family car. The combination of spaciousness and efficiency of a car is the most suitable option. It is worth taking into account the carrying capacity of the car and not exceeding the weight of 1.5 tons. The trunk is very roomy - 545 liters. The spaciousness allows you to place items without being cramped.

It will please everyone who decides to buy a car ex-showroom. This is the best decision. When used carefully, a new car lasts much longer than models that have already had owners. Quality requires the right approach. To have peace of mind about your driving, you should pay attention to new models. So you yourself are responsible for the condition of the car.

The Russian regiment of budget sedans has arrived: in the spring, the new Chevrolet Cobalt, which has already managed to make a splash with its controversial appearance, will begin running on our roads. "Terrible on the face - kind on the inside"? AutoVesti looked for the answer to this question in Uzbekistan.

…On a night two-lane “like a highway,” headlights regularly pull out huge holes, humps and transverse dips from the impenetrable darkness. Asphalt periodically disappears completely, like a ghost, turning into a “killed” grader. And no warning signs! Not driving, but complete “Russian roulette” in a minefield. It’s dangerous to drive, you can’t relax, you’ll blow yourself to hell. We barely dodged a crawling tractor without identification lights. We had just missed the “flying Dutchman” when a grimy KamAZ flew along our left lane, separated from the oncoming traffic by a concrete barrier. We’ve just smoothed down our standing hair, and we barely have time to slow down “to the floor” in front of the second tractor (of course, also without lights or signs), which is dragging a tank along our lane, pouring tar on the road. At night! The only way they could identify him was by the igniter on the barrel that was burning like a torch. A hellish chariot pouring hot tar on the path for sinners... God, did I die and go to the driver's hell?

No, this is not hell yet, but only its hallway. We are in Uzbekistan, breaking through the local highway M39 from Shakhrisabz to Samarkand. “Humpbacked”, as if they survived an artillery attack, the roads are everywhere in these parts. And in Samarkand the situation is no better: for example, during the day, right on the street in the city center, I almost went underground into a broken sewer the width of the car itself. It was in such “combat” conditions that we got acquainted with the new budget Chevrolet Cobalt sedan. And, by the way, the right place was chosen: where else, if not on such “roads,” to shake out all the ins and outs of the subject?!

So, in the company’s lineup, the budget Cobalt will replace the Lacetti sedan, which is leaving the Chevrolet brand and will return to the market in 2014 under the Daewoo flag. The Cobalt itself, introduced in 2011, was developed by the Brazilian branch of General Motors both for the “country of wild monkeys” itself and for other third world powers. That is, those where the buyer is not rich, and the roads are not very good, and the climate is not sweet, and gasoline is not a fountain. A very suitable description for Russia and the CIS, isn’t it? The sedan is based on Jimmy's global Gamma II platform, on which, for example, the Chevrolet Tracker, Spark and the current Aveo are built.

But why do you need the Cobalt if you already have the Aveo sedan, which at the base price is only 20,000 rubles more expensive? Chevrolet says the cars have different buyers. Unlike the foppish city dweller Aveo, Cobalt is aimed at families who need one car, but to the point: inexpensive and without show-off, practical, durable, with high ground clearance, interior and trunk, so that the whole crowd, and with seedlings, and on bad roads - and to the dacha. Chevrolet marketers also assure that if appearance is important to the Aveo buyer, then, they say, for the Cobalt owner, the body design, on the contrary, on the side - the price would be good. I don’t know, I don’t know, here I somehow don’t share the optimism of the company people, looking at the big-eyed car. I wonder when the restyling will be?

The list of safety systems includes only front airbags; there are no side airbags, even for an extra charge. The basic equipment includes audio preparation and 4 speakers; the top-end LTZ configuration has a radio, but it only reads flash drives and external audio media. The MyLink multimedia system with a touchscreen, which is offered for the Aveo, is also not available for the Cobalt, as is cruise control.

But if the appearance of the Cobalt turned out to be, to put it mildly, controversial, then its trunk is in perfect order: the “basement” of 545 liters is still the most voluminous in the class, only the future Skoda Rapid (550 liters) has more. In addition, the Cobalt is noticeably larger than the Aveo. With the same width, it is 80 mm longer in the body (4479 mm) and 95 mm longer in the wheelbase (2620 mm). That is, the salon should be large. Shall we check?

I sit down on a soft sofa, raise the headrest, settle down, look around... With a height of 180 cm, I sit “behind me” without any problems: the ceiling does not press, it does not “squeeze” in my shoulders, and there is a margin of ten centimeters from the knees to the back. The seat itself is surprisingly high and not slumped down, and the sofa has a wide bottom cushion that carefully supports the hips. Shall we sit down together? It’s also possible, although you’ll have to make room, and the middle passenger’s feet will be a little hampered by the central tunnel.

But otherwise, the Cobalt “gallery” turned out to be without any special revelations; the indicators here are quite average “for the ward”, although I must admit, I was expecting more. Let's say, in and even more so in the new one, there are other reasons to find fault. The Cobalt has wide, comfortable armrests on the rear doors, but the door hands and window lift buttons standing on them are inconvenient to use; you have to twist your arm. As a price to pay for being on a budget, there is no ceiling light, cup holders and storage pockets in the rear doors. The “push-out” profile of the backrest will also take some getting used to, although it does support the lower back. At the same time, you can’t relax on the headrest - you have to bend back, you can’t ride like that for long. And the light trim of the seats will obviously get dirty easily.

The instrument scale of the “Cobalt” has backlight adjustment, which, by the way, the “brotherly” Aveo does not have. The digital speedometer is very convenient and clear on the go, but the tachometer, on the contrary, is less readable.

Maybe the Cobalt is more interesting from the front? At first everything seems to be fine. The restrained design of the dashboard is diluted by a cheerful “motorcycle” instrument cluster, spotted from Aveo, from which the grippy steering wheel (but without radio buttons and leather) and steering column “flags” are also taken. There is plenty of space for small things: there are cup holders, pockets in the doors, and “trash bins” on the instrument panel, and the USB connector is hidden in a large niche under the “air conditioner” so that the flash drive does not stick out in plain sight, and there is no need to drag it along the panel wires for charging your phone. There are also nice little things like a microlift for the ceiling handles and mirrors in the sun visors. The steering wheel may not be adjustable for reach, but its angle of inclination and the range of seat adjustments were enough for me to sit as I should.

But the more closely you delve into the details, the more small “burrs” come out. Why, for example, was the height adjustment of the seat cushion provided with such a tight “twist” that it is not easy to rotate it even with a strong man’s hand? It would be better if they installed the usual pumping lever. And the seat itself seems soft and amorphous, with a squeezable back, for which, by the way, lumbar support is not offered. But the block of power window buttons, unlike the same Renault Logan or Citroen C-Elysee, in the Cobalt is no longer on the instrument panel, but on the door. Thank you, of course, but how much did Chevrolet save in Brazilian reals by pushing the joystick for adjusting the mirrors into the corner of the window so that you have to reach for it? As for visibility, the mirrors are large, the washer, or rather even the “sprinkler” of the glass, is excellent, but when turning, you need to keep your eyes open: a lot of things can “hide” in the wide pillars of the windshield.

In general, if I passed the test in the Cobalt interior, it was with a B. There's a road test ahead. Maybe Cobalt will show off its talents and especially its suspension with an independent McPherson strut at the front and a torsion beam at the rear? I won’t say that “Cobalt” flashed, but it shook quite a bit. Chevrolet does not hide the fact that Cobalts for Russia and the CIS have stiffer shock absorbers than the Brazilian version. I believe! Of course, a ground clearance of 160 mm and a dense, impenetrable suspension on such broken roads are a blessing. My partner slowed down on the pits, but I, on the contrary, resolutely charged ahead according to the principle “more speed - fewer potholes.” And the powerful suspension holds the blow: in almost 300 km of road trash, we caught a breakdown only once, and this time on the streets of Samarkand.

By moving the automatic transmission selector from “parking” to D, it is easy to turn on the manual transmission mode, which here is located immediately after “drive”, and not separately. The “manual” mode itself is honest, the transmission holds the gear and will not shift “up” even at the maximum engine speed. But the gears in this mode are changed only with buttons on the knob, which feels less convenient than changing gears by shaking the lever itself. In addition, it is useless to stomp on the gas in manual mode: there is no kick-down here, the gearbox will not shift without the driver’s “down” command and will continue to “vomit” at the selected stage.

But how shakingly, as if shuddering with righteous indignation, Cobalt fights against road chaos and sloppiness! The suspension regularly “swallows” road debris and handles medium-sized bumps normally. But on large holes and transverse joints the car already “gestures” sharply and noisily, dances on the waves, and on the asphalt “comb” the shock absorbers seem to stop working altogether, turning the car into a galloping vibration stand. So if you are looking for omnivorous comfort in the suspension, like that of the Logan or the same Almera, then this is not the place for you.

You shouldn't expect any revelations from the handling either. The steering wheel is well insulated from irregularities, allowing vibrations to pass through only at “large” speeds, but its sharpness and information content (or rather, their pale shadow) are such that you no longer drive by the instinct of the steering wheel, but “by the eyes.” But this was expected. But I would like the brakes (disc at the front, drum at the rear) not so “wobbly” and long-stroke. And it wouldn’t hurt for them to be more powerful either, since when braking “to the floor” they somehow don’t have the feeling of reinforced concrete confidence.

Deceleration is clear, but what about acceleration? For the Brazilian Cobalt, two gasoline engines are offered (1.4 and 1.8 liters), but our market is entitled to only one 16-valve 1.5-liter Korean S-Tec II engine, which is produced here at the GM Powertrain plant -Uzbekistan in Tashkent. This engine develops 105 hp. and 134 Nm of thrust, which is less than that of the 1.6-liter Aveo (115 hp and 155 Nm). But both cars weigh about 1.2 tons and are identical in 0-60 mph, which takes 11.7 seconds with the 6-speed automatic that the Cobalt borrowed from the Aveo, as well as the 5-speed manual.

1. The rear in the Cobalt is clearly more spacious than in the Aveo due to the longer wheelbase. 2. The bottom cushion of the sofa does not recline on hinges, but is completely removable, but then you will have to fit it into the mounting grooves so that it does not crawl under passengers while moving. 3. The split backrest folds in a 40:60 ratio, allowing you to carry long items. 4. There are air ducts at the rear passengers' feet, but due to the high step, you can't get your feet very far under the seat.

The Cobalt’s engine turned out to be quiet, and it pulls predictably for its strength, without splashes and more with the expectation of a quiet ride, so it’s better to calculate acceleration in advance, and if you want to be quick, then you need to be ready to drive the engine to the tail and to the mane. Against this background, the 6-speed automatic transmission is a help in saving fuel; on the highway at 100 km/h the engine produces just over 2000 rpm, and in two days of vigorous testing, taking into account air conditioning, the city, highways and serpentines, we managed to “drop” consumption up to 11.1 liters per “hundred”. At the same time, there are no sport modes in the box; all the settings and leisurely reactions to the gas are all also aimed at saving. The only pity is the gas tank - only 46 liters.

But no matter how much “Cobalt” strives for family values and economy, I somehow didn’t feel that this car would become a thunderstorm in class B, where it’s getting more and more crowded every year. Just another "state employee". But Chevrolet wants to sell up to 30,000 Cobalts a year in the future! Due to what, I wonder? Nice dashboard design, large trunk, high ground clearance, stiff but durable suspension? This alone is not enough; in this segment there are competitors that are prettier, more spacious and more comfortable. What else are you going to buy, Cobalt?

1. The Cobalt's trunk, although the largest in the class (545 liters), is completely bare: no pocket, no hook. The opening is wide, but part of the space is eaten up by hinges. 2. The “basement” can only be opened with a key or a key fob button, which is not very convenient. There is also no stamping for fingers in the bumper to make it easier to pry off the frozen cover. 3. The underside of the trunk lid is completely “budget”: the Brazilians even saved on the internal handles; you will have to close the lid by grasping the slots in the metal. 4. Under the carpet is a full-size 14-inch spare.

Chevrolet is still counting on price. The basic Cobalt in the LT version with manual transmission will cost 444,000 rubles. The price already includes heated front seats and power mirrors, front electric windows, driver airbag, central locking, immobilizer and steel wheels with 185/75R14 tires. For a “condo” you have to pay an additional 26,000 rubles, a safety package with ABS and two front airbags will cost 20,000, and for a metallic color they will ask for another 8,000 rubles.

The “two-pedal” version will cost 503,000 rubles, and Chevrolet especially emphasizes that for that kind of money only the Cobalt has a 6-speed automatic transmission. That’s right: only the VW Polo sedan has a similar box in class B, but the price for this version starts at 576,000 rubles. However, the basic “automatic” Cobalt already has air conditioning. True, ABS and a passenger airbag are not available even for an extra charge. But all this, plus a trip computer, rear electric windows, a USB radio, an alarm system and alloy 15-inch wheels are available in the top-end LTZ configuration - it will cost 530,000 rubles.
