Lancer evo 9 technical specifications. Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX sedan. Selection and purchase

Mitsubishi Lancer 9 Evolution is a sports car, a successful version of the Lancer, available in sedan and station wagon bodies on the CT 9A and CT 9W platforms. The exterior design differs from the standard model, and the power plant is renowned for its trouble-free operation even in difficult conditions. The choice of just such a car is determined by the desire to have a powerful, fast and reliable car. The price of a used Evolution 9 today varies widely. It can cost 500 thousand rubles or 1 million 700 thousand rubles for the 2008 version. It all depends on the condition of the car, modification, configuration.

The ninth generation Evo sedan was released in 2005. The car was simultaneously presented in Japan, Europe and the USA. The power plant was assembled using advanced MIVEC technology and received a modified turbine. As a result of innovative amendments, engine power increased to 291 horses.

Options

The 9th generation Evo was sold from the very beginning in 4 main trim levels, but later their list was supplemented or decreased depending on the market:

  • running standard or basic version called Grand Sports Rally, briefly – GSR;
  • Just Rally Sports or R.S.;
  • Special Edition or SE;
  • Mitsubishi Rising or MR.

Each version had its own characteristics. All of them showed different test results for acceleration, maximum speed, and handling. The RS version did not have additional functions, while the SE and MR were equipped not only with an advanced acoustic system, but also with other modern devices at that time. For example, a rear spoiler that makes the car more like a racing car.

Despite a lot of innovations and additions, the 9th generation turned out to be lighter than its predecessor by as much as 60 kg. The lightest package was the RS, designed for sports rallies. But it accelerated no faster than the top SE and MR , and even the basic GSR.

Experts attributed this to the lack of a rear spoiler on the RS. Therefore, this modification was often subjected to tuning, installing the wing on its own. This not only increased speed performance, but also improved the aesthetic component.

The RS equipment was also not impressive in terms of interior decoration. There is a minimum of comfort here, everything is decorated at a Spartan level. On the one hand, this scared off buyers, but on the other hand, it made it possible to keep the price low and ensure a high level of car sales to racing teams.

The MR version is more similar than the others to the previous Evo 8. The same Bilstein shock absorbers, 6-speed gearbox, air intake on the aluminum roof, original fog lights, HID xenon, alloy wheels are used. As well as Recaro sports seats, Brembo brakes and a Momo steering wheel.

In order to somehow reduce the rise in production prices, “charged” in every sense of the MR configuration, the manufacturer makes HID xenon available only as an option, although on the Evo 8 cars were equipped with such headlights as standard, albeit in 3 versions.

Mitsu Motors initially determined that 3 versions would be available for the European and Asian markets. All of them were equipped with the same internal combustion engine with 291 hp, but with different KM indicators. However, the Evo 9 arrived in Europe with an engine developing 10 hp. less power.

  1. The RS (Rally Sport) version came with a 5-speed gearbox, had an aluminum roof, a set of additional options and a simple interior. There is a control option - “Left-hand drive”.
  2. The GT version, which used a 5-speed gearbox, and took all the good points of the standard and rally versions.
  3. The GSR version is equipped with a 6-speed gearbox for the European and Asian markets. It features Bilstein shock absorbers, an aluminum roof, a smart and advanced SAYC system, and much more.

As for the British Isles, the 9th generation Evo was initially supplied here in 3 versions: the FQ model with a 300-horsepower internal combustion engine, the FQ with 320 horses and the FQ with 340 hp.

All models were equipped with a six-speed gearbox and single-tube Bilstein shock absorbers. They could be refueled with super-unleaded gasoline.

Subsequently, two more models arrive in England:

  • FQ with 360-horsepower internal combustion engine;
  • MR FQ with a 360-horsepower turbocharged internal combustion engine, titanium aluminum fins, powerful glass protection, a beautiful interior, etc.

There were 4 models equipped with a 286-horsepower unit on the American market:

  • Standard version, working with a 5-speed gearbox (basic American version);
  • Rally version of RS with a redesigned 5-speed gearbox, aluminum roof, various sensors (the interior, as always, is designed at a minimalist level);
  • Special Edition, equipped with a very light, almost entirely aluminum body, HID xenon, red seats and much more;
  • MR with 6-speed transmission, 7-spoke forged aluminum wheels, vortex generators, etc.

Although the engine power of all American models is identical, they could differ in terms of performance.

Another famous market where the car sold well was the Philippines. Here the Mitsubishi Lancer 9 Evolution was sold until 2008. The bodies were offered in 2 versions. Base versions were slightly better equipped than the Evo 9 for other markets. Expensive modifications were equipped at the same level.

Russian market

In our country, the Evo 9 was offered with the same 280-horsepower 2.0-liter engine. The car easily accelerated from zero to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds, and reached a top speed of up to 250 km/h.

The Russian version featured sports leather seats with Alcantara inserts, a Momo steering wheel, pedals with aluminum pads, etc. The main thing is that, compared to its predecessors, the Evo has become much more comfortable.

Station wagon

Evo 9 The car first rolled off the assembly line in 2005. The station wagon was built on the same platform as the sedan, but the body was made more rigid and durable. We can say that the manufacturer, as it were, strengthened the body, increasing the quality of life by modernizing the pillars and generally strengthening the structure.

At the same time, the station wagon body turned out to be light, since it has many aluminum parts.

The advantages of the body gave the station wagon enviable driving performance and reliable handling.

The interior design, as well as the exterior, is made exactly like a copy of the sedan. In the back, you can transform the seats and get a huge luggage space. However, for unknown reasons, the cargo compartment of the Evo Wagon was smaller than that of the Lancer Cedia Wagon.

Among the advantages of a station wagon compared to a sedan, one can highlight the level of shvi. It was clearly carried out at the best level, which is explained by the use of high-quality acoustic materials.

The manufacturer has also provided a version of Evolution 9 with an electric motor. The power plant in the car was connected to each of the 4 wheels. The motor itself is built according to a toroidal design, implying a non-stator arrangement of the rotor. Thanks to this scheme, the car electric motor is significantly lighter.

Main course of modernization

As you know, all Lancer Evo models were released for the purpose of a certain modernization. Thus, the 9th generation Evo has a major improvement course associated with the appearance of a 2-liter 4G63 power plant, assembled using the unique advanced MIVEC technology. This engine features a more efficient turbine and an all-around better intercooler.

One of the most charismatic cars on the planet, the Evo 8, offers the widest possibilities in terms of exterior design. Already too aggressive, you can turn it into a full-fledged road conqueror.

The new engine increased the car's power to 291 hp. It was said above that this Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9 power plant could develop even more power. The British, in particular, could choose a version with a 340-horsepower engine. True, on the European market there was a modification with a 280-horsepower unit of the same type.

Price

Prices on the secondary market today are different. Most models are even tuned by the owners. As a rule, the approximate cost of cars starts from 500-600 thousand rubles. You can find low-mileage models starting from 1.3 million rubles, and even higher if they are equipped with a forced internal combustion engine, a modernized chassis and an alternative body kit.

Let us remind you that the 9th generation Evo was replaced on the assembly line by Lancer Evolution 10. Read an interesting article about how it is carried out, learn a lot of interesting things. Mitsubishi Lancer 10 is a very beautiful and powerful car that allows for extensive modernization.

On March 3, 2005, the 9th generation Lancer Evo appeared before the general public at the Geneva Motor Show and on the same day official sales began in Japan. America saw Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 9 only in April. Much has been modified and improved in the car, because the engine power has increased to 291 hp.

History of Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 9

The engineers did a good job so that on March 3, 2005, the Japanese could already drive the 9th generation Lancer Evolution. The new one included an improved turbocharger. The MIVEK system itself is an electronic control of gas distribution and valve lift in the engine. Thanks to the new power unit, the car's acceleration to 100 km/h was now 5.7 seconds, and the top speed was 250 km/h.

Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 9 retained a lot from its predecessor -. For example, the following details were saved:

  • Bilstein shock absorbers;
  • Roof air intake;
  • Alloy wheels;
  • Fog lights;
  • Aluminum roof;
  • 6-speed gearbox;
  • Additional measuring instruments for engine control;

The generations did not differ much in appearance. They were distinguished by their internal filling. Evo 9 was produced in three versions:

  • RS – 5-speed gearbox, aluminum roof, additional instruments, LCD monitor, possibility of installing the steering wheel on the left, titanium-magnesium turbine;
  • GT – 5-speed gearbox, externally similar to the RS package;
  • GSR – 6-speed transmission, additional instruments, active stability control (SAYC), aluminum roof, Bilstein shock absorbers;

In England, Evolution 9 was produced in several modifications:

  • FQ-300 – power 300 hp;
  • FQ-320 – power 320 hp;
  • FQ-340 – power 340 hp;

In the Philippines Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 9 sold until August 2008. There were 2 color schemes to choose from. The configuration offered finishing, as for the international level. The engine modifications were also not very different and the options offered in the Philippines were approximately the same as the versions for other countries.

Lancer Evolution 9 Wagon

The first Evo Wagon was released in 2005. This station wagon was developed on the basis of the Lancer Evo 9 sedan. 2 versions went on sale Evolution Wagon. A distinctive feature of the car are Brembo brakes and Bilstein shock absorbers.

Evolution Wagon configurations:

  • GT – 6 speeds, manual transmission, turbocharging, intercooler, 4 cylinders, power 280 hp.
  • GT-A – 5-speed, 4-cylinder engine, intercooler, turbocharging, power 272 hp;

Evolution MIEV

This is an electric version of the popular racing sedan Lancer Evolution. Unlike other electric motors, this model used a toroidal design, which is based on the location of the rotor outside the stator. The result of the experiment was stunning, which made it possible to further reduce the weight of the car. Power Evolution MIEV can be compared with standard petrol Evolution. In 2005, the car took part in the rally.

Another Mitsubishi electric car is.

On the advertising sticker for the Evo MR, I saw the remark “model 4G63 is finishing!”, which I couldn’t help but pay attention to. Moreover, the technical staff scurrying around the site from where I was supposed to start my test ride were wearing T-shirts with “4G63” written on the chest in large letters. What could all this mean?

Meanwhile, without hesitation, I immediately asked the “T-shirt” a question that interested me. I asked this: “They say that the new generation Evo car, the name of which, as I understand it, will contain the Roman numeral X, will be “stuffed” with a huge number of all sorts of new products. In this case, what’s the point of rushing and taking a partially modernized, but still slightly outdated Evo IX?” Do you know what the answer was? “Well, you can wait for a new model if you don’t like the perfected 4G63 engine, and you’re ready to change it to something new, and therefore “raw” at first! And besides, a huge number of time-tested options are offered for the old car, and when will the same become available to the new car! In addition, there is one more significant circumstance that is not usually discussed. Namely, spare parts, or more precisely, the ease of finding them! I bought a car, then I needed to replace something, but this is not on sale yet, since the production of spare parts has not yet been established in the required volume. As for the Evo IX MR, it is, in fact, the same model as the previous Evo IX with all the ensuing consequences!” Yes, indeed, just ask the seller, he will say such things that you won’t think enough! But the main thing that I caught and attached importance to was the mention of the 4G63 model engine.

So, we will assume that the previous Evo IX car was brought to perfection, and to emphasize this circumstance, we “labeled” the new model of the car with the abbreviation MR. Every connoisseur of Mitsubishi cars knows where it came from - from the combination of the initial letters of the words Mitsubishi Racing (“Racing version from Mitsubishi”). If anyone remembers, Mitsubishi once produced a Galant car, the main name of which was appended with the letters GTO - MR. What kind of car it was, everyone should also remember well. So, once upon a time, a rule was adopted within the company and was in effect for some time, according to which, if a particular model was brought to the highest degree of perfection (“top model”), it deserved the additional name MR. The above-mentioned case with the model, it must be said, was not the only one. And now the time has come, and the Evo car, after a minor modernization, suddenly turned into the Evo VIII MR! The same thing happened with the Evo IX. Moreover, as before, the renaming affected not only the sedan, but also the station wagon, and this is doubly interesting!

Yes, and one more thing: the division of the Evo IX model into categories has changed somewhat. Now the sedan can be categorized as GSR or RS. As for the station wagon, it is available in GT-A and GT trim levels. As you can see, the GT sedan is excluded from the list of cars produced.

All the improvements that distinguish the new Evo MR car can be divided into three large groups. Of course, one cannot help but pay attention to some changes in the design of the car. Let these be “improvements” of the first group. However, if we have already agreed that MR means “Mitsubishi Racing”, then, in all likelihood, design is not the main indicator. The main thing is the improved engine and chassis design. So, in order to fully appreciate these advantages myself, I decided to go to Tochigi Prefecture, where there is a test ring track. That's how I found myself behind the wheel of an improved Evo IX.

Which was produced in sedan and station wagon bodies (only the ninth generation). The official start of sales in Japan began on March 3, 2005.

The version of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 9 for the European market debuted at the Geneva Motor Show on the same day, and for North American buyers the car was presented at the New York Motor Show a month later.

The main direction of modernization

The main change in the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9 was the appearance of a unique valve timing control technology called MIVEC in the 2.0-liter 4G63 engine, as well as a more efficient turbine and intercooler.

This made it possible to increase the engine output of the Lancer Evolution IX to 291 hp. and 392 Nm. It is important to note that engine characteristics vary depending on the version of the car and its target market.

For example, most Europeans only got a 280-horsepower engine, but the British could choose a power unit of varying degrees of boost (300, 320, 340 “horses”).

External distinctive features

If the regular 9th generation Mitsubishi Lancer, especially in the basic trim levels, looks rather modest and inconspicuous, then its “charged” modification Evo IX is difficult not to notice in traffic.

Externally, the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 9 sports a developed aerodynamic body kit with extended wings, side “skirts”, a massive spoiler on the trunk lid, a hood with an air intake, a different radiator grille and aggressive bumpers.

At the same time, it is not so easy to distinguish the Evo IX from its predecessor Evo VII, since its exterior has changed slightly. Mitsubishi designers and engineers slightly tweaked the bumpers, grille and wing, and also darkened the headlights.

A few words about the station wagon

The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 9 Wagon station wagon was produced since September 2005 and had a more durable and robust body compared to the sedan. The car was equipped with a four-cylinder engine (272 or 280 hp), which is available in tandem with a 6-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed automatic transmission. This model was not sold on the Russian market.

More information about the model for Russia

In Russia, the Lancer Evo 9 sedan was offered with a 280-horsepower two-liter engine with a peak torque of 355 Nm. This car accelerates from zero to hundreds in 5.7 seconds, and its top speed reaches 250 km/h.

The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 9 for the Russian market received sports leather seats with Alcantara inserts, a Momo steering wheel, climate control, aluminum pedals and a carbon-effect center console trim. The car has become a little more comfortable compared to its predecessor, if this phrase is generally applicable to the Lancer Evo.

About prices

There are plenty of offers for the sale of used Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX on the secondary market. Most of the cars have been modernized by their owners, so the price range is enormous.

Some of the cars cost 500-600 thousand rubles, and some samples are sold at a price of 1.3 million rubles and above, since these are already seriously tuned Lancer Evolution 9 copies with an alternative body kit, a forced engine and a modernized chassis.

In October 2007, production of a new one began, which is available only in a sedan body.

If the conversation turns to a fast, controllable, all-wheel drive turbocharged car, then the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X immediately comes to mind. Created exclusively for racing, it has become the calling card of the Japanese automaker. This car can often be seen at various competitions, from circuit racing and drag racing to rallies and.

In 2014, a series of statements by Mitsubishi representatives appeared that the car would be the last, but it soon became known that the XI would be given the green light and it would receive a diesel-electric power plant.

At the beginning of 2015, a series of farewell versions of the 10th generation cars were released, the most powerful of which produces an incredible 480 hp.

Design

Visually, the model is practically no different from its younger brother. There are of course a few differences, but they are barely noticeable. The front end has a sculpted hood that tapers into a huge grille. The hood climbs a little over the headlights making the appearance more aggressive. The bumper also has small round fog lights.

From the side, the sedan stands out with clear lines at the top and bottom, and the decorative gills in front of the door also look chic. Otherwise, everything is simple here. When you look from the rear, the huge spoiler immediately catches your eye. The optics also look beautiful, emphasized by the stamping on the trunk lid. The massive bumper received a huge diffuser and 2 exhaust pipes.

Dimensions of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 10 sedan:

  • length – 4505 mm;
  • width – 1810 mm;
  • height – 1480 mm;
  • wheelbase – 2650 mm;
  • ground clearance - 140 mm.

Specifications

The model is equipped with only one 2-liter engine, simple in design. The engine is 4-cylinder and turbocharged, its power is 295 horsepower. As a result, it accelerates the car to the first hundred in 6.3 seconds, and the top speed is 242 km/h. All torque equal to 366 H*m is transmitted to all wheels.

The unit consumes 14 liters of 98-grade gasoline in the city during quiet driving and 10 on the highway. It works in tandem with a 6-speed robotic gearbox; a 5-speed manual was also previously available, which showed higher performance in dynamics and consumed less fuel.

There are also several improved versions of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X:

  1. The FQ-330 SST is a version released in 2009 that received improvements to the engine. He received 329 horsepower and accelerated the car to hundreds in 4.4 seconds.
  2. GSR Premium Edition is a model that received only changes in design and interior trim, the technical part was not touched. It came out in 2008.
  3. The FQ400 is the same as the first model, but with 400 horsepower. Some appearance changes have also been added.
  4. Final Concept is the latest modification that was released with changes in appearance. 19's wheels were installed and it was painted only black. The standard engine was improved to 480 horsepower by installing a different exhaust system, turbine and improved settings.

Salon

The interior is based on the design of the base model, but there are always characteristic features such as the Momo sports steering wheel and seats with developed lateral support. In the first models, little attention was paid to the interior of the car, because... the main ones were dynamic characteristics.

Since early models have been discontinued, the interior is worth considering. The salon traditionally copies the style of the base model. However, the incredibly comfortable Recaro seats securely hold the driver and front passenger in place. The main drawback is the lack of seat height adjustment, as well as the steering column depth. Despite this, it won’t take long for an average height driver to find a comfortable seating position.

In the center of the dashboard of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 10 is a large display that displays a lot of different information, be it the operating modes of the all-wheel drive system or displaying the distribution along the axes in real time.

The steering wheel is wide and pleasant to the touch, but the size of the spokes does not give it a sporty feel. Visibility is not bad, but compared to its predecessor it is noticeably worse, as if the lightness inherent in the IX is missing.

The main thing is that the new car has become more suitable for everyday driving. It now has a multimedia audio system with a subwoofer, heated Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X seats in the front, 9 airbags and built-in Bluetooth.

There is a little more space in the back, but like a regular Lancer, not much. The trunk is quite small, since due to improved weight distribution the battery and windshield washer reservoir were moved into it. In addition, instead of rolling, there is a full-size 18-inch spare wheel in the niche.

Chassis

A modern sedan only requires the driver to choose a trajectory, and he does the rest himself. Smart electronics monitor each wheel in real time and, based on the data received, the active differential can load a certain wheel, or the stabilization system can brake another to achieve the most accurate and safe cornering.

The suspension no longer seems as stiff as its predecessor. This slightly reduces the feeling of extreme sports that fans of the model fell in love with in 7-9 generations. However, we can say for sure that the new model is the most suitable for normal everyday use.

Price

The model was sold in only one configuration for 2,499,000 rubles, and production ceased in 2016. On the secondary market, prices vary greatly, some even reaching the price of a new sedan. No additional options are offered, so you have to be content with what you have. Namely:

  • leather interior;
  • heated seats;
  • audio system;
  • climate control;
  • light and rain sensor;
  • xenon optics with adaptive lighting system.

This car is a legend. The model is the owner of several world rally champion titles, thanks to which it can provide its owner with all the full sensations of a real racing car. Having gone through a long path of evolution, engineers managed to leave the best genes in the DNA of this car, but the main thing remained unchanged - a powerful two-liter turbo engine, four-wheel drive, a sports interior and, as a result, fantastic speed and handling. It is not surprising, because with each model, specialists had to make every effort to be at least one step ahead of the competitors. And they succeeded regularly. One can only guess whether this tradition will continue in the new model, but we can say for sure that the car will always be at its best, because this principle is inherent in its name - Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X!
