Problems Land Rover Discovery 3. All owner reviews about Land Rover Discovery III. Appearance of the car. Outside view

Land Rover Discovery III debuted in 2004. Although stylistically the SUV resembles its predecessor, the differences are visible to the naked eye. Elements such as an asymmetrical rear window and a protruding roof were used on the first generation Discovery. However, in the third incarnation, all this looks more serious.

At the heart of Discovery III is a load-bearing body with an integrated frame and fully independent suspension. This design was designated IBF (Integrated Body Frame - a frame integrated into the body). In 2008, the British decided to restyle. The changes were minimal. The orange direction indicators have been replaced with clear ones, while the black matte plastic on the outside has given way to body-colored elements. A Harman/Kardon audio system is standard equipment.

After the update, the SUV lasted on the market for only a year. Land Rover Discovery IV was introduced in 2009. But in fact, this is just an advanced restyling of the third generation.

Engines

Petrol:

4.0 V6 (218 HP);

4.4 V8 (295 hp).

Diesel:

TDV6 2.7 V6 (190 hp).

The range of offered motors is very narrow. The 2.7-liter turbodiesel was developed by Ford in conjunction with PSA and was used in the Jaguar S-Type and Peugeot 607. True, with a twin turbocharger and 220 hp. 190 "horses" is too little for a large SUV. The average consumption of 9-12 l / 100 km is a very good result for such a size and weight. However, the engine is very capricious.

Most of the problems are created by the injection system and the turbocharger (about $ 800 for a new one). Remarkably, the dual-mass flywheel does not give up as often as in other models with this engine. The disadvantages include the presence of a particulate FAP filter. If the SUV is operated mainly in the city, then problems with it can hardly be avoided. Sometimes there are cases of damage to the crankshaft. In addition, the valve of the exhaust gas recirculation system (EGR) is clogged with soot. The cost of a new one is about 150-250 dollars.

One of the major problems is the glow plugs, which are difficult to unscrew. The other is timing. One belt is located at the front of the engine, and the other for the injection pump from the rear - from the side of the box. Replacement will cost about $500-700.

Gasoline engines are much more stable. Both were developed by Ford. Engines are very greedy. The 4.4-liter V8 will consume at least 20 l/100 km in the city.

Technical features

As befits a true Land Rover, Discovery is equipped with a proprietary all-wheel drive system with a center differential. A rear differential lock is also installed, and in difficult conditions, electronic assistants - ETC, ESP and HDC - will come to the rescue. The Terrain Response system allows you to choose one of the modes that will allow you to overcome sand, snow, slippery grass and stones without any problems. The only problem is the low ground clearance and large wheels (17-20 inches) with low profile tires.

Discovery III was equipped with one of two gearboxes: 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic. Both front and rear are equipped with independent suspension. For the more demanding, air suspension was offered. It allows you to increase ground clearance up to 24 cm. In EuroNCAP crash tests, the British SUV performed so-so, but earned 4 stars.

Faults

Land Rover vehicles have never been reliable. Fortunately, Discovery 3 is better than its predecessor in this regard. But it is still far from perfection. Quite quickly, the suspension elements of silent blocks and ball levers wear out. A comprehensive replacement will require an investment of around $1,000. In rich trim levels, air bags wear out by 150-200 thousand km. Replacement costs a lot. In addition, the air compressor may fail, and leaks appear in the system. There are also problems with wiring - a cascade of errors appears on the display.

Air bellows don't usually have a good reputation, but in this model they are pretty reliable. Replacement is not very difficult. The cost is about $300 each. The compressor will fail much faster - about $ 800.

Before buying a Land Rover Discovery III, it is imperative to check the steering rack. It is prone to leaks and backlash. Tie rods are another weak point of this car. Over time, the brake activator may “grunt” loudly.

The owners of the British off-road vehicle complain about leaks from the gearbox. Quite rarely, but there are cases of damage to the driveshaft, its support and the front differential.

Rough maintenance (wrong type of oil or over tightening with an oil change) can wear out the transfer case bearings. The cost of a used handout is about $ 300, a replacement is the same amount.

Another unpleasant problem is a cracked sunroof. Buying a used version is almost impossible.

Discovery 3 car is not only very complex, but also full of unusual solutions, forcing you to contact only specialized service centers. A simple example. In versions with air suspension, after replacing the steering rods, it is impossible to adjust the wheel alignment angles without a specialized computer.

Sometimes corrosion is found on the frame, which does not happen on the body. Before buying, carefully check the condition of the frame.

Spring suspension is much more durable.

Conclusion

Land Rover Discovery III is an SUV with a reliable all-wheel drive system. The car is relatively durable, practical and very spacious. Without a doubt, one of its main advantages is the original design. This car cannot be confused with any other.

Listing the advantages, we should not forget about the rich equipment and high level of comfort. Unfortunately, not everyone can afford to maintain a Land Rover Discovery. The prices for some spare parts are very high, and repairs are difficult and expensive. In addition, you need to try hard to find a competent specialist who understands Land Rover.

If you change the oil in an automatic transmission more than once every 240,000 km (as recommended by the manufacturer), then there is a chance for a long and proper operation of the machine. The cost of the procedure with oil and an oil filter is about $ 500.

The Land Rover Discovery 3, produced by the English company Land Rover, was produced from 2004 to 2009. The car represented the third generation of the Discovery lineup, which was recognized as the most successful in the history of the famous SUV. The first and second production periods of Discovery fell on the heyday of automotive technology around the world. In the early nineties, one after another, unique, and most importantly effective, technologies appeared that were immediately used in the automotive industry.

Along with new technical developments, competition has increased. It was fully reflected in the SUV segment, since the production of expensive cars has always been in the struggle for superiority in the field of maximum comfort, efficiency of power units and speed characteristics. The first places in the crossover market were traditionally occupied by the Japanese, but the British manufacturers did not lag behind. Releasing models such as the Land Rover Discovery SUV, they were not going to be inferior to competitors.

Start of production

The base model was introduced in 1989 and immediately established itself as a worthy successor to the iconic Range Rover, which has long been in the category of the most sought-after crossovers. The high reputation of this car is explained by impeccable technical characteristics and a decent level of comfort. The new model had to go the same way: it was waiting for the future of a super popular car.

At first, the Land Rover Discovery was produced in a three-door version, and only a year later two rear doors were added. Such a delay was caused by the need to establish the assembly process. All frame SUVs, regardless of their design perfection, go through the annual testing procedure.

Characteristics

The Land Rover Discovery 3 model incorporates all the technological innovations that were developed in 2004. These are ventilated brake discs of increased diameter, a hydraulic pressure regulator that cuts off excessive flow at low vehicle loads, a new generation power steering, pneumatic independent suspensions and much more.

US Sales

In North America, Land Rover Discovery 3 was sold under the symbol LR3. The technical characteristics of the machine included the Body-Frame frame chassis with its integration into the body frame, which provided a significant strength factor for the entire undercarriage. The resulting body rigidity was sufficient to counteract the twisting effect that all four-wheel drive SUVs suffer from.

Chassis

Another know-how of that time was The Terrain Response system was built into a dependent front suspension with a continuous axle of a differentiated design and a lever-pendulum, with the same one-piece axle, at the rear. Compressed air modules ensured the perfect smoothness of the car, which is unusual for a crossover designed to drive over bumps. However, thanks to this system, the comfort level of the Land Rover Discovery 3 increased dramatically. The handling of the car has also improved.

The car uses a full all-wheel drive scheme with a free center differential. The conventional locking mechanism has been replaced by a brand new ETS control system that slows down spinning wheels. But besides the new option, the car was still equipped with standard four-circuit anti-lock brakes ABS with uniform force distribution and the new Hill Descent Control system, which automatically reduces the speed of descent on steep slopes.

Both axles, front and rear, were suspended on longitudinal lever structures, so the car needed transverse load neutralizers. At the rear, a fairly effective Watt mechanism was used to offset these efforts, and a Panhard rod was installed on the front suspension. Both devices were regulated by the ACE system, Active Cornering Enhancement, which, as necessary, changes their stiffness in the process of stabilizing roll stability. In addition to its main function, ACE helps to reduce vehicle roll when driving on the highway, at the time of corner entry, and also automatically increases ground clearance between the body and the road when conditions require it.

Power point

The Land Rover Discovery 3 engine was offered in three variants:

  • gasoline, with a V-shaped arrangement of eight cylinders, a volume of 4.4 liters and a thrust of 300 liters. With.;
  • turbodiesel with a capacity of 190 liters. with., a volume of 2.7 liters;
  • in the USA and Canada, the car was supplied with a four-liter engine from the Explorer, with a capacity of 213 hp. With.

Diesel engines were paired with a six-speed manual transmission, while gasoline engines were equipped with a 6-speed automatic.

Complete set

For the Russian market, a complete set is offered in three versions: S - standard, SE - improved and HSE - "luxury". Their difference is minimal, but the price range is quite significant. The basic package does not contain expensive accessories, devices and newfangled technical options. Improved includes a set of airbags in an extended version. Emergency inflatable devices are located around the entire perimeter of the cabin and protect passengers and the driver at the time of side and frontal collisions, as well as from rear impacts.

The HSE package is distinguished by the presence of all of the above tools, plus rollover protection - ARM, stability control and a full version of ABS with separate anti-lock function on all four wheels.

Inner space

The interior of the car is impressive in its size. The body is seven-seater, with a remote arrangement of seats. If desired, two more seats could be added, but the designers decided first of all to create an atmosphere of comfort in the car, and this became possible only if there was free space.

The driver's seat is located high, which provides a wide panoramic view. Both the backrest and the seat cushion have about ten different possible positions, which allows a person of any build and height to sit behind the wheel. The steering column is also equipped with adjusting devices, its inclination can be changed within 12 degrees, and the height is adjustable in the range of 16 centimeters. In addition, an additional option can be turned on for the steering wheel - when the engine is stopped, the column automatically rises and goes forward to the instrument panel, which allows the driver to freely exit.

The huge interior of the car is transformed in a matter of minutes: the seats of the second and third rows are folded so that a perfectly flat platform is obtained, on which any cargo can be placed. However, the car already has a spacious trunk, the capacity of which exceeds two and a half square meters. The carrying capacity of the car is 1800 kilograms. At full load, the braking activity regulator is activated, in which case the pressure in the rear segment main pipes increases to maximum values.

Repair options

The operating conditions of an SUV are close to extreme: the car overcomes various obstacles on its way and, at the same time, the loads on its units, chassis, engine and transmission increase many times over. At some point, there is a need for maintenance or overhaul of the machine. The technical restoration of such an SUV as the Discovery 3 must be done on time, since all the parts and mechanisms of the car are interconnected - a defect in one part will inevitably affect the operation of others.

In order to repair the Land Rover Discovery 3, it is necessary to diagnose the technical condition of the car in advance in order to clarify the list of required parts. Spare parts for an SUV are quite expensive, so it is better to purchase only the most necessary ones. For example, a broken headlight on a Land Rover Discovery 3 can cost $440 to replace with a new one—a price that is certainly high. Repairing a car with spare parts is not difficult if it is carried out in a specialized technical service center.

Land Rover Discovery 3: owner reviews

For the entire time of production of the SUV, and this period has already passed the twenty-five-year milestone, there has not been a case when Land Rover's technical services received complaints about the discrepancy between the quality criteria declared by the manufacturer. Model Land Rover Discovery 3, which has always been positively reviewed, is not only one of the most reliable, but also one of the most prestigious in the world.

The level of comfort, good speed parameters, impressive capacity and carrying capacity - all these characteristics apply to the Land Rover Discovery 3 SUV. Owner reviews confirm its high reputation.

I didn’t particularly intend to write a review, because it’s already clear in advance what will be written in the comments. Who is at a loss, I will prompt:

1. If LR goes somewhere, then he goes to the service.

2. LR owners never say hello during the day, because in the morning they have already seen each other in the service.

Well, nevertheless, something turned out to be free time, yet I will write. Ironically, but in gratitude to the car.

Acquisition history. Funny. All my life, when I could afford not to buy VAZ, GAZ, UAZ and other TAZ products for personal use, I went to Volvo. Starting with a childhood dream, the 1983 760GLE, through the 460, S70, S80, to the wonderful XC70. And then I should have stopped, but the new XC70 came out and ... And despite all the discounts, pulls, I still got into the queue for 4 months for this car. While waiting, thoughts began to flow from "you need to buy a base + premium package" this will be the most liquid when selling and the least sensitive when losing money, to "after all, you buy a car that you want and a new one, why deprive yourself of what you want" . The price accordingly began to float from 1.500.000 to 2.100.000 and somewhere so reasonable to stop around 1.800.000. Then I began to think that it's not too much money for a station wagon, although it is practically already a business in the latest version. There was much to do, and I began to consider what else is generally offered for that kind of money.

And then I thought that with my passion for road trips, why not buy an SUV. According to the principle "useful in the economy." LRD3, Touareg, LC Prado, Pajero 4 fell into the price fork. I went to study the issue. It turned out to be the easiest to deal with the Pajero. It was enough just to get into the diesel version and take a test drive. Yes, yes, I understand that these are cheap show-offs, that uncles with a height of 215 cm ride quietly in it, but with my 180 by 95 I could not sit comfortably in it. Crowded. Then I actually pressed the gas and realized that I already had a diesel minibus for work, I had enough to listen to diesel there too. Slow acceleration and harsh suspension, and we shake hands with the manager, realizing that the marriage of convenience will not take place. With Prado, of course, it turned out to be more difficult. Damn Toyota reliability itched in my head all the time while inspecting the car. Pimply rear lights, again the absence of pneuma, xenon, a poor interior, a tape recorder from the century before last and a complete lack of acoustics + to the eternal Japanese "2 pokers stick out of the floor and generally want to show off - you go to the Lexus", everything was visible, but damned reliability and itched "yes, and figs with him maybe." As a result, it overwhelmed when we calculated the CASCO insurance. I didn’t want to pay for a satellite, for servicing a satellite, for CASCO, in total, about 270-300 thousand in the first year. Moreover, the neighbor’s experience with the Prado said that the satellite in good faith would not know where your car ended up leaving the store. But the insurance company, having eaten 300,000 for two with the owners of the satellite, will conscientiously reduce the cost of paying interest by 18 for "depreciation in the first year" and it turns out that you will actually return a million to your hands. Here it is necessary to make a digression and say that I do not accept claims about "just think, the salon is not rich, the music is garbage, but how it pulls through the sand and mud." I drive on roads, sometimes without roads. But not for the Ladoga trophy. And while I drive INSIDE the car, I want to be comfortable inside, and not think about where this UAZ can drive. This is my personal wish for cars. Let's go further. Tuareg seduced by his interior, which is much better than any of the four. But on the other hand, he did not seduce at all with not the best reliability, which I constantly observe when driving my VW bus for MOT, and completely shameless "packages" of options that caught up with the Tuareg price to 2.150.000 easily and naturally. While the price of LRD3 and Prado at 1.750 was already taken as a base. 000 rub. Well, do not forget that the XC70NEW got into the same money. This is all in comparable configurations, for example, the Tuareg was taken with leather and pneumo and xenon. In D3, this whole thing was immediately in the HSE.

Total cheerfully climbed into LRD3. Compared with the XC70 found the following pluses.

  1. For so much money SO much car.
  2. Honest SUV.
  3. Quite comfortable inside.
  4. And how comfortable on the go with his pneumo.
  5. For regular great music.
  6. No one has seen the light better.
  7. The exterior is a controversial thing, but I like the chopped design. I read somewhere that the pseudo-modesty of the interior and exterior is due to the fact that "the military style is flawlessly maintained." I liked the idea.
  8. From this "refrigerator" with a diesel engine with a gross weight of 2800 kg + the driver does not expect such feats on acceleration as he does. It is, of course, RRS with TDV8 much faster, man, but I don't need it that fast. But taxes are from a completely different opera :)

As a result, he took the money for the XC70, took it to the LRD3. Did not wait long, 2 weeks, received, climbed, began to ride. Naezdil about 400km and here it is. The famous quality made itself felt. Let's go antifreeze. And it was then that everything became clear to me about these sayings, about what does the car have to do with it, and what does everything else have to do with it. Excellent service turned a penny problem into a two-month marathon. Each time returning the car to the service after 50 km of run with a diagnosis of "leaving again", I felt not just not needed by this wonderful place where I bought it. But just an enemy. The service conscientiously washed the car, topped up the antifreeze from the jar and gave it back. Doing nothing. Just stunned by this approach to the client. As a result, I was already ready to return the car to the seller, but I ventured to call on competitors. There, surprisingly, they did not make a fool out of me and carefully examined everything. 40 minutes and the diagnosis is made. The defective valve was replaced. Here are those car. Or maybe not a car? Or maybe not a factory marriage? Indeed, according to the second service, they still climbed into the car. I already had suspicions later that while I was transferring money to the salon by bank transfer, she was simply used as a "donor" for some kind of paid repair. I can’t fully confirm, but some internal investigation allows this to be allowed.

After the repair issue was closed, summer came, it was time for my travels. What can I say. 5 times wound with St. Petersburg for Pskov, 1 time to Moscow. This is from far away. It makes no sense to mention sorties of 200 km in one direction. There were no problems or questions. The car is almost perfect for long distance runs. Pneuma allows you not to beat off the fifth point, the car is very stable on the road, it performs permutations when overtaking very correctly, at the level of a car. Well done SPORT mode in the automatic transmission. There is a manual gear shift, but it makes no sense to use it on asphalt. SPORT and went to overtake - there are simply no questions. I went back and forth to Moscow in a day - not a back hurt, nothing like that. Just wanted to sleep badly :)

I had a chance to ride off-road and not very problematic, but still. No questions, despite the 3 tons of mass, turn off DSC, choose a program and go. It is only necessary to take into account the possibilities of rubber. But by the way, you put chains on regular summer tires - rushing is better than on MT.

Its diesel is one of the best I've ever seen. BMW still has the same excellent diesel. And I haven't seen any of these yet. Wonderful motor.

As a result, the car is very like. Service is not very good :)

Questions about the car. In the process of operation came to the following conclusion. The car looks like a fourth generation fighter. Those. everything seems to be the same as on the IL-2 during the war, the handles, the steering wheel, but go ahead and put the pilot during the war in the current SU. He won't fly. It's about the same here. The Talmud on operation needs to be actually read. Where about off-road, read more than once. Better yet, take an Experience ticket and learn how to drive this tank from instructors. Because not skillfully, you can plant it easily and naturally on MT tires, and then stand and open your mouth like an instructor kneading on a regular M + S.

Here is a list of known "diseases" of an SUV, according to my communication with colleagues and at the service:

1. Sudden electronic failures treated by restarting the engine. Haven't come across it personally. The two friends I know also did not come across. The service has an opinion that since 2005, the refinement of electronics has eventually led to the fact that the number of failures has become insignificant. The very first models suffered from this and the truth. However, for example, such things often happened to people who drove over 100 km / h in winter, I personally found this out. At the same time, people did not pour anti-gels into diesel fuel. Presumably, as a result, in the cold at speed, the car simply lacks fuel, which the pump is unable to pump when it thickens in the highways. Do not forget that EURO4 requires many times more pressure. And, therefore, the fuel must match! Freelander 2 in such cases, by the way, limits the power of the car and writes it on the display. Well, here is an older car, it looks like it pulls as much as it can, then a Christmas tree on the panel and we are cut down. It’s not the first day I’ve been married to a diesel engine, I know in which country I live, I definitely pour the additive in the off-season and in winter. At -20 I drove 100 km / h - I did not observe any problems.

2. Allegedly unreliable ball joints and knocks in the steering. Having traveled with a friend, I roughly understood why this was. Well, of course, if the car is heavy, equipped with air suspension, then you can cut through the same 120 in any pits and have fun. To think that three tons, thumping through the pits, will break any ball, well, why. Soft in the cabin :)

3. Incorrect off-road behavior. Some call him an SUV. Here the humor is most likely that when choosing an off-road program, people stupidly turn “winter means snow”, while the programs are set up for this rather conditionally, for example: the sand program is set to drive on DRY sand, but they put me in jail disco on this program when driving along the lake. Then they put on the program "dirt" and ala ... a wonderful transformation. So you need to think with your head, if you really don’t want to read the manual, the soil properties for each program are described there. A friend planted him, for example, by putting the program, but not turning off DSC. Then he tried to understand why he presses the gas to the floor, but the car does not go :)

4. Problem with injection pump. There are a number of failed high-pressure fuel pumps of a new Euro4 model. LR changes them for a promotion, they also replaced me, although mine was in order. It is difficult to say what is connected with, most likely a poor-quality pump in fact. Pleases. that they don't get rid of the problem. Call and change.

For the rest, of course, anything can break, it's a car, but I didn't observe total queues for the service.

For a run of 17.000, except for an incomprehensible case, there are no problems with the valve.

For me personally, this car fit 100. Like a good English suit. :) However, the possession of such a computerized car imposes certain responsibilities on those. its attendants, including the driver. It is difficult to say whether this is good or bad, the TLC Prado does not require such attention, but this is a car from the past already, from the age of mechanics. Discovery is the first car of the electronic age. Like everything new, it has its drawbacks, but progress seems to have gone this way and it is inevitable. I already saw the TLC 200 on the software reload in the service, it also hung up. And before that, I saw S80NEW, which died while flashing the installed PTFs. But without this, there will not be all the comfort that we want. So read the manuals, sign up for courses, in order to get the full pleasure of driving these new generation SUVs, you have to match yourself :)

I like the car. What I wish for everyone!

Good time everyone. Fulfilled his old dream, bought a Discovery 3. During the short operation, the car left very conflicting feelings, with which you will continue to ride this suitcase.

I have always liked the appearance of this miracle. A suitcase is a suitcase, HSE equipment. Everything is parallel and perpendicular. The interior parts are of high quality, nothing creaks, it does not irritate the eye. The look of the car is not modern to call the language, but it doesn’t matter to me.

The car was bought as a family car, for trips to the sea by a family of 4 and taking the floor of the house with you on these trips. With this, the discary copes with a bang. Consumption on the highway is 8-9 liters, I personally have enough power reserve for overtaking, although not a rocket even once. The diesel engine rumbles pleasantly, it is almost inaudible in the cabin. If you put on a cruise 140, you can generally fall asleep. Rides in a straight line quietly, softly and comfortably, pneuma works out pretty well. Of course, abrupt rebuilding is not his forte, but the car does not pretend to be. The track on the pavement is also noticeable, but this is expected. There are a lot of glove compartments, cup holders, recesses in the cabin to decompose and arrange everything. Lots of places. Illumination tidy green, at night does not irritate the eyes. The climate works perfectly, set 22 and forgot. Not all cars do this. Surprisingly, the back of the rear seat is not adjustable in inclination, but it would not hurt, as it somewhat causes discomfort to passengers.

Review Land Rover Discovery 2.7 TdV6 (Land Rover Discovery) 2007 Part 3

Hi all. Here comes the end of the fifth year of ownership of Disco 3. Mileage is already 98,000 km. A lot happened during this run. But there were no sudden breakdowns. I'll start in order.

Thousand 60 shook the suspension. Replaced silent blocks, tie rod ends, ball. It’s not that everything was smashed, it’s just not so comfortable anymore. And I don't like it if there's something wrong with the car. Our roads are terrible, I operate mainly in the city, and with a comfortable suspension, I simply don’t feel many potholes. Naturally, I drove over bumps, I drive and I will drive.

At 90 thousand, the air suspension compressor burned out. Of course, it didn't just burn out. Thousands of 70 (one and a half years before) the compressor began to make an extraneous sound during operation. Somehow I didn't pay much attention to it. Before his death, for two weeks, he periodically began to give an error about a suspension malfunction. Something was not up to the car then, he flew into the hospital. And one day this error did not go away. Went like this for a week. Suspension slowly lowered, but not so fast. Took it to service. 27500 compressor plus some for the work.

Strengths:

Weak sides:

It so happened that 1.5 years ago he moved to live outside the city. In winter, the roads are not cleaned, the roads themselves are not very good, and the previous car began to creak in the cabin. It became a pity to kill the car, and she asked for a replacement - either sell it or invest in wheels and upcoming repairs, which were not there at all for 180 thousand km.

After a long search between Tuareg, Discovery 3, Land Cruiser 100, Land Cruiser Prado 120, BMW X3, Tiguan was chosen by Diskar. Building a house involves the transportation of bulky goods, with my pace of life, it is much easier for me to arrive at 11 pm in Leroy Merlin, load the car with something and go home than to order delivery or look for it on the spot. In terms of a truck, Diskar is great - almost 2m of a flat floor and cubic regular shapes of the trunk work wonders. This winter there were some wildest snowfalls, and I didn’t drive calmly on this monster, but drove home. Of course, it was the case and we were sitting, but this is from that story about “Dad, do we have a real SUV?” ...

We went to Finland for the New Year - the back of the car was littered with things up to the headrests - 4 friends from another car were carrying a dog in the trunk, so all the things went with us. In the summer we can go somewhere else to ride long distances.

Strengths:

  • The monumentality of the car
  • Number of options
  • Comfort

Weak sides:

  • The myth of reliability
  • Not the most liquid car in the secondary market

Part 2

Greetings to all.

Yes, it's been 5 years already. But every day he continues to delight in everything. The interior is not overwritten, the paint is holding up well. The car is in the cold and sun all year round, but there are no problems with the body. Unless there are only small chips, moreover, above the windshield, and the Land Rover letters on the hood were rubbed. Nothing has changed since the last review. Changed something on the suspension. Changed Pirelli Ice&Snow tires to the same ones. They are winter, but I ride them all year round. It is very convenient and practical, it does not affect the speed and braking characteristics in any way. Maybe, however, due to smart electronics. Well, okay. The main thing is that I do not experience discomfort and uncertainty when cornering and braking or accelerating.

The second winter does not work Webasto, installed by the dealer at the time of purchase. I need to get it checked out this summer. This winter it was that the interior could not warm up normally for an hour. I had problems last winter that the car would not start even at -10. The second season I add anti-gel, it seems to start up more reliably. Maybe diesel is better.

Strengths:

  • Reliability
  • Comfort

Review Land Rover Discovery 2.7 TdV6 (Land Rover Discovery) 2008

This review is a continuation of the Land Rover stories I drive. Now a story about the impressions of using Discovery 3. Previous reviews are here.

Since the last review, I have driven 25,000 km on Discovery, of course, I got used to the car, not completely, but still. That negativity and misunderstanding, and somewhere even rejection, that I experienced when I moved from the Freelander, almost left, instead of them there was a feeling of solidity of the car. Or monumentality, like, damn it, next to the statue of Peter I, well, of course, I drive it))).

So, LR Discovery 3 in the HSE configuration, that is, the maximum, but without additional. equipment, monitor type and 3rd row of seats. Yes, yes, do not be surprised, there are 7 local Diskari. With a diesel, 6-cylinder engine with a volume of 2.7 liters, a power of 190 horsepower and a torque of 600 Nm, however, I can’t feel a second parameter. Why Discovery was bought is described in detail in the previous part. http://avtomarket.ru/users/soncy/garage/36402/opinions/24941/

Review Land Rover Discovery 2.7 TdV6 (Land Rover Discovery) 2006

I have already written twice about my car, the last one in the summer of 2008. And now there was time, and the most interesting thing is that there was a desire to briefly describe the three-year operation of this car. The thought flashed that I might finally get out of the crisis. Maybe psychological. I must say right away that I just want to tell my attitude to this car, the main thing is that I don’t want to part with it and I’m not going to.

Reliability. The car never got up in the middle of the road. It always drove, but it didn't always start. In general, in the winter I suffered with it. When it gets cold, it doesn't want to start. I don’t know what this is connected with, but it’s annoying to carry out all sorts of diagnostics - I don’t trust our service. My father bought an updated Fril2 - he has no problems, although the anti-gel does not pour. And at me both last, and this winter already froze. This is strange, but I still don’t consider this car technically problematic, as many people say, maybe I just really like it so far, or maybe there weren’t such problems as others had. For all the time, the electronics gave out a garland three times, but this did not cause any particular problems.

Salon. All for 5 points. And spaciousness, and ergonomics, and sound insulation, and visibility. Already wrote, but I will repeat for those who want to buy this car. If you want a retractable interior to the floor, then take only the HSE version, in the rest the seats are removed by reclining the seat, and this is not a profitable transformation. Of dopov bought only rubber mats, nothing else is needed.

Strengths:

  • Comfortable
  • Beautiful
  • Multifunctional
  • Excellent suspension
  • Excellent noise isolation

Weak sides:

  • Does not like frost from -20
  • Disgusting windshield wipers
  • Small crickets in the cabin

Review Land Rover Discovery 2.7 TdV6 (Land Rover Discovery) 2008 Part 4

It's been two years since we first met. The car continues to please, but, probably, only now I began to evaluate it objectively. All cars have their pros and cons, and so does Discovery. I will tell you more about them later.

In two years, we only dashed off 17,000 km. Nothing in the car did not break, did not fail, did not freeze. Someone will definitely say - the run is ridiculous! But someone manages to break even for 1-2 thousand, and it happens more than once. Especially when it comes to an Indian car :)

Appearance of the machine. View from the outside.

Strengths:

  • capacity
  • Comfort
  • Safety
  • brakes
  • Miscellaneous nice things

Weak sides:

  • Serious ones have not been identified. Read about the small ones in the review

Review Land Rover Discovery 2.7 TdV6 (Land Rover Discovery) 2005

I must say right away that there were a lot of cars: from Lada to BMW, but it was the third DISCOVERY that hooked me.

When financially grown to buy used \ y in a living state, various options were considered — X5, Touareg, Americans. But there is no other such stylish and brutal car. If only Gelik ... So the designers 5+. A classic - it has always been, is and will be. This is not some Korean-Japanese-eyed trough. Although I feel very good about the LC-100 :)

Now to the point: a car for all occasions — and shit, and around the city. The 2.7 turbo diesel engine is certainly not for racing, but quite good for constant driving. By the way, the speaker, despite the weight of about 2.5 tons, is not bad. Moreover, the consumption in the city is 13-15 liters, on the highway 10.5, this is at an average speed of 120. Air suspension is a thing! It seems that the roads have become better.

Strengths:

  • Visibility
  • prestige
  • Design

Weak sides:

  • It gets dirty quickly, as, indeed, all jeeps

Review Land Rover Discovery 2.7 TdV6 (Land Rover Discovery) 2008

Hi all. I have long wanted to write a review, but I specifically waited when I hit at least 50,000 km, so as not to jinx it.

My car model was chosen according to other criteria, unlike other owners of this car, I need a car to perform quite understandable functional tasks. I am engaged in travel and tourism, I need a car in order to comfortably deliver me and a large amount of cargo for 350-500 km from Moscow, and the last 50 km along forest roads. To summarize, the main requirements were as follows:

  • true full-time all-wheel drive with center differential and reduction gear
  • big trunk
  • diesel engine
  • comfort and safety on the road

I chose between cars within 1.5 million rubles, well, maybe a little more expensive. The car is more expensive than 2 million rubles in my understanding is nonsense, with such an amount it is better to buy a 1-room apartment. Okay, everyone has their own approaches. In short, I chose between Pajero 4, Land Cruiser Prado, Land Rover Discovery 3 and Hummer 3. These are real SUVs that have real all-wheel drive and are adapted for off-road driving. In addition, they are comfortable and have a set of active and passive safety equipment.

Pajero 4 is a well-deserved car, it could have been taken, but there were only petrol versions in expensive equipment + 3 row of seats completely unnecessary + stealing. You had to wait 3 months for the necessary equipment, but you didn’t want to. The Land Cruiser Prado, by definition, is gasoline + stolen + 3 row seats + much more expensive than 1.5 million rubles, somehow I didn’t really like it. I would take a Hummer if it were not for gasoline and, accordingly, gluttonous + at that time were more expensive than the required amount.

Strengths:

  • Comfort
  • Four-wheel drive
  • Big trunk

Weak sides:

  • Soft suspension
  • Wipers, mudguards - consumables

Review Land Rover Discovery 2.7 TdV6 (Land Rover Discovery) 2005 Part 3

Good day!

I continue my review. I really had to make the box, because once again I repeat that during the opening there were a lot of mechanical damage. The amount for repairs, although increased, but not by much, gave 138,000 rubles for repairs. Almost all the insides in the box have been changed + new oil filling !!!

Having traveled for 2 months, the worst happened: I was signed up for the next MOT, while driving there was some kind of noise, as if the turbine was whistling, I wanted to see this reason at the same time. I’m driving in the morning for MOT (fortunately, there was more than one), while driving, acrid smoke sharply poured into the passenger compartment, pressed the brake pedal and to the side of the road, the brake pedal failed, my happiness was that there was enough fluid or pressure in the pipe to ensure that the car still stopped (the handbrake does not work at speed, because it is electromechanical, in this situation this is a huge minus). Running out of the car, I open the hood, and there is a flame (the day before I got out of the car and accidentally put a fire extinguisher with a first-aid kit in the garage), while I poked into the trunk for a fire extinguisher, while I began to stop passing cars, my brother began to pull things and documents out of the car. We must pay tribute to our drivers: several cars stopped, fire extinguishers were found, and most importantly, a key to unplug the battery note: emergency call services anywhere in Russia on the road from a mobile phone - tel. 112). As a result, the flame was extinguished, by this time a fire engine drove up, spilled the engine compartment from a fire hose, a traffic police car drove up, fixed it. While everyone was leaving, I immediately called the insurance company, I didn’t get through to the local office, I called the hotline in the Moscow office, the manager said that my case did not fall under the insured event (later I really found out that insurance companies do not insure against fire, they insure only from arson), and I have a full CASCO. Then I call a tow truck, there are no crane-type tow trucks for such a tonnage in our city, only a winch. A car arrived, they tried with a winch, it turned out that the box and the handbrake were blocked, I called the service where I was going for maintenance, explained the situation. The mechanics were sent, the box was unlocked, the pads too, I call a tow truck for a new one and take it to the service.

Strengths:

  • Machine capacity

Weak sides:

  • Reliability

Hi all!

A year has passed unnoticed... There are 9,000 thousand on the odometer... The first MOT has been completed... In this review, in addition to describing the MOT and the costs of it, I will tell you about several "adventures" that happened to my Suitcase over the past year and ended happily for me and for my car)

In the summer, turning on the primer, I see an “oil painting”. On the road (about 1 km to the village) there is a gazelle, frankly speaking, not on the road, but in a ditch next to it ... however, only half of the car, which cannot but rejoice. And around her run-help-advise 4 people. And it immediately becomes clear that she and her "crew" need our help with Chemodan ... as cars pass by. I drive closer, I recognize my neighbors ... I don’t remember from which street, but I already decided to help anyway) It turns out that a young guy of about 17 years old was driving, they drove well and amicably), while on a flat road they unsuccessfully stepped aside from oncoming traffic (that day traffic on our road was very busy), and smoothly moved off the right side into a ditch. They cannot get out on their own (gazelle and 4 people). I told them "Is there a cable?" I didn’t want to get my own ... “Yes!”, I “How many tons?” And then it turned out that their gazelle was empty and weighed about 600 kg (to be honest, I didn’t believe it ... but I understand gazelles ... “400 of which are the engine!” said the owner of the gazelle), which I didn’t understand at 200))) In general, I didn’t feel their suitcase (600 kg ... or how much?) at all, which could not but rejoice me). With a gazelle coped and went home.

Strengths:

  • Appearance!
  • Resilience (tfu three times). Once I even forgot to open it!
  • Comfort, organization of internal space ... and its QUANTITY
  • Lots of air in the cabin. Five people + ALL luggage and a lot of things fit without problems. I stretch my arms forward, and another 20 cm to the windshield)
  • Air suspension. Smoothly, softly ... roll
  • Light!!! Adaptive bi-xenon — it's something! Especially in yards
  • Engine. Economically, but if necessary, nimble. Can be taught ... and starts to eat fuel)
  • Climate. Now completely figured out, does not cause trouble

Weak sides:

  • Poor road holding. You have to taxi (maybe the regular tires let us down)
  • Valky in turns. For comfort…
  • 1.5 liter bottles in the pockets of the front doors pretend to be "crickets"

Review Land Rover HSE (Land Rover Discovery) 2007 Part 2

Good afternoon or evening, well, or night, everyone. Our country is huge and reading motorists live everywhere.

I read the comments on my previous review about owning a Discovery 3(http://www.avtomarket.ru/users/maxx76/garage/30052/opinions/18238/)and I wanted to expand my story somewhat. I did not try to convince anyone that the Land Rover is a great car, and even more so to say that it is better than the X5 (my review, which caused so much controversy about cattle driving SUVshttp://www.avtomarket.ru/users/maxx76/garage/30221/). These are different machines and it is difficult to compare them. X5 honestly worked out the money spent on it and gave a bunch of pleasant moments from owning this car. Moreover, the X5 was sold for exactly the same money as it was bought. His role in this was played by the fact that he himself was engaged in the delivery, payment to America, customs and transfer from the port in Kotka. It turned out to tailor 5-6 thousand dollars. But he, like Disco, had his drawbacks and shortcomings. And the main disadvantage is criminality. When they ask how it was possible to get morally tired of the X5, I answer: buy such a car and try to secure it competently from theft and at the same time insure it cheaply in a normal company. I drive Disco with one native key and its insurance at 4.5%, and on the X5 there was an alarm, an electric lock on the hood, a submersible immobilizer in the tank, an immobilizer that is activated only at the start of movement, of course, a native anti-theft + satellite, that is, to start You need to press six different buttons in a certain sequence. Otherwise, the evil aunt calls and asks various stupid questions. This is good when you still need to go somewhere, but if you just need to throw a bag in the trunk. Loading at the dachas generally turned into a circus. And with all this garden with signaling, insurance still cost 8.5%. While driving the X5, it seems to have gotten used to it. When he moved to Disco, I realized how these signaling strained. By the way, I sold the X5 to a friend, so we trained with the signaling for an hour and still he was awesome for the first week from this exercise for fingers and brains.

I am not a fan of any particular brand. Moreover, I don’t want to get into an eternal dispute, which is better: the Japanese or the Germans. I tried to simply objectively describe my acquaintance with Discovery. Although I usually read reviews myself after I buy another car. But probably the majority of people choose a car with their heads, and not like me with their eyes (like a small child: “Oh, I liked it. I want it all”). Maybe my review will help someone make the final decision to buy or not Discovery. Moreover, dealers already have Disco 4 with a new diesel engine of 245 l / s. (from my point of view, an inadequately high price of 2520 thousand rubles for HSE with navigation) and the remains of Disko 3 2008 (1780 thousand rubles for HSE).

Strengths:

  • high-torque diesel
  • Good optics and noise isolation
  • Excellent air suspension

Weak sides:

  • Terrible service from OD
  • Weak brakes

Review Land Rover Discovery 2.7 TdV6 (Land Rover Discovery) 2006

Bought in March 2008 with a mileage of 80,000 km from a friend. I bought it by accident, I mainly considered SUVs like ML and X5. Diesel is not considered at all (there was a prejudice). I took it mainly because of freshness (1.5 years, the cars in question were at least 4-5 years old)) and prices (80% of the market at that time).

Strengths:

  • Salon
  • Review
  • off-road

Weak sides:

  • Expensive and difficult to repair

Review Land Rover HSE (Land Rover Discovery) 2007

Good day everyone!!!

Car October 2007. Purchased in February 2009 with a mileage of 42,000 km. To date, mileage is 58,000 km. Bought this car almost by accident. It's time to change the X5. It's not that the car is tired, rather I'm mentally tired of it. The car was in 2005, he drove himself from America a three-year-old with a mileage of 100,000 km. For a year and a mileage of 20,000 km. maintenance machine cost 7500 rubles. (changed oil and filter twice in Stirlitz). Whether to talk about the reliability of amerekos, but I only had a good impression, maybe I was really very lucky (thanks to the person who chose and sent it there). Well, here zasverbilo in one place. Like a crisis, everyone grabs a new freebie from dealers. I need something too.

Experience with Discovery 3 was extensive. Moreover, it cannot be called successful. Two such pieces carry the leadership at work in 2005 and 2007, respectively. One from a friend in 2006. Those who were workers periodically came to the office on a tow truck, periodically left on the same paid devices from the office in the direction of the dealer station. My friend and I went to Finland, his Disko died at two o'clock in the morning on a deserted Finnish road without any hope of revival. If not fast Finnish guys on a tow truck, then by morning we would have turned into frozen mammoths. As a result of two days, 700 euros and this miracle came to life. They said that "shit is your Russian diesel fuel."

Strengths:

  • Comfortable fit
  • Good air suspension
  • Excellent cross
  • good engine
  • Cool soundproofing

Weak sides:

  • Disgusting brakes for a car with such a mass
  • Mediocre handling
  • Low service level

Review Land Rover Discovery 2.7 TdV6 (Land Rover Discovery) 2008 Part 2

Good afternoon!

So I decided to write about the features of Discovery in Moscow and beyond. Soon it will be a year since I own this wonderful car, the first delight of buying has passed … there was a second — from operation.

So how is it in the winter. It starts easily, although there were no severe frosts, but Disco inspires confidence that there will be no problems with this even in severe cold (webasto, however). The windshield thaws completely in 10 minutes (provided that ice is 2-5 mm thick on it, and without it even faster), this time is spent on sweeping snowdrifts from the roof and hood, while the interior warms up well. You sit in a warm car, on a warm seat. Too bad it doesn't have a heated steering wheel

Strengths:

  • Economy
  • Possibilities of interior transformation / capacity
  • The overall impression of the car - power, confidence
  • Good cross

Weak sides:

  • Some little things in the ergonomics of the cabin

It has an ambiguous image and a dubious reputation. However, once the owner of this car, many become ardent fans of the model for many years, but there are also many naysayers who get rid of the car, faced with minor problems with the car. There is even a joke among skeptics: if a gentleman is not in the service, but drives around on his Discovery, this does not mean at all that his car is in order. It’s just that the gentleman has two of them - while one is being repaired, he drives the second one. Despite this, you are unlikely to find another such car with such a curious development history and unusual design elements. The new Discovery was created in the spirit of fashion trends, because buyers wanted from SUVs, first of all, beauty and comfort, and only then - cross-country ability. It cannot be said that the off-road performance of the car has deteriorated, but structurally it has become much more complex and when buying, you should keep in mind that it is unlikely that you will be able to repair the car yourself in the garage.

A bit of history:

Land Rover Discovery- a mid-size SUV that first appeared on the market in 1989, in total, at the moment, four generations have been released. The second generation appeared in 1998, despite the fact that outwardly the novelty was not much different from its predecessor, its design has undergone significant changes. Land Rover Discovery 3 hit the market in 2004. The car was significantly different from its predecessors - solid axles, frame structure and manual control of the locks were a thing of the past. Work on the development of new technical solutions turned out to be big problems and costs for manufacturers, due to the fact that the car has a complex design and an abundance of electronics, the number of failures of the main components and assemblies exceeded the average. Optimism was added by the fact that the manufacturer quickly reacted to shortcomings and tried to eliminate their mistakes.

Advantages and disadvantages of Land Rover Discovery 3 with mileage

For the Land Rover Discovery 3, which was officially supplied to the CIS market, two power units were intended - a 2.7 turbodiesel (190 hp) and a 4.4 petrol (300 hp). The gasoline engine is not in great demand among motorists, perhaps that is why the characteristic problems have not been identified, except for too much fuel consumption of up to 20 liters per 100 km. The diesel engine is a joint development of the company "" and the alliance " Peugeot Citroen". This power unit, with proper maintenance, will last 500,000 km or more, but despite this, it has enough shortcomings. So, in particular, even with small runs, carbon deposits appear on the EGR exhaust gas recirculation valves, which, over time, leads to their failure. The main signs of the need to clean or replace the valves are the deterioration of the dynamic performance of the engine and difficult starting. Often, the owners blame the reliability of the valve cooler EGR.

Also, there are frequent cases of failure injection pump and a submersible fuel pump, over time, the manufacturer upgraded both pumps, after which they became much more reliable. It is not uncommon for oil to be squeezed out through the front crankshaft oil seal, it happens so quickly that, often, the car reaches the service without oil and with a knocking engine. The main reason is the incorrect operation of the oil pump; over time, the manufacturer upgraded this unit. Also, systemic shortcomings include: cranking the crankshaft liners, malfunction of the exhaust system bypass pipe, oil temperature sensor and crank mechanism.

Fuel injectors are sensitive to fuel quality, and if you avoid refueling with low-quality diesel fuel, they will last 100-120 thousand km, glow plugs have the same resource. One of the advantages of this motor is the resource of the turbine, with proper operation, it will last more than one hundred thousand km, but, in the event of a breakdown, you will have to fork out. This power unit has a fairly large appetite for a diesel engine - an average of 14 liters in the city. But, thanks to the considerable volume of the tank (85 liters), it is possible to avoid frequent visits to the gas station.

Transmission

Land Rover Discovery 3 can be equipped with a six-speed manual and automatic transmission with the same number of gears. As operating experience has shown, mechanics has proven itself best in terms of reliability. An automatic transmission, after 130,000 km, may experience jerks and jerks when shifting gears and driving in a traffic jam. Often, resetting errors in the transmission control unit helps to fix the problem, but if this does not help, the torque converter will have to be replaced. If you constantly use the car as a full-fledged SUV, problems with all-wheel drive may begin. The fact is that the center clutches are very afraid of heavy loads and overheating, as a result, with constant slippage, the clutches wear out quickly, which subsequently leads to costly transmission repairs. If the rear differential lock has failed, the servomotor of its drive is probably to blame. Occasionally, there are cases of damage to the driveshaft, its support and the front differential. To extend the life of the transmission, gearbox and transfer case, it is recommended to change the oil and filter in them at least once every 80,000 km.

Salon

Land Rover Discovery 3 has a comfortable fit and excellent visibility. In the interior, the British tried to adhere to minimalism, in some ways they succeeded. Finishing materials and sound insulation of good quality, as a result, extraneous noise in the cabin is very rare. Also, the audio system can be attributed to the advantages, since the majority of owners of premium cars will envy the quality of its sound. Electrical equipment is not particularly reliable. Among the main disadvantages, one can single out: failure of the sound signal, due to the failure of the ABS sensor, the speedometer ceases to function, arbitrary shutdown of the radio, failure of Discovery's main off-road feature - the Terrain Response system. Another everyday problem is the failure of the rear door lock, according to statistics, it breaks on every second car.

Electrician

The car's biggest downside is the electronics. Problems in electronics are divided into two groups: 1 - software failure, 2 - oxidation of wiring contacts. Due to raw software, anything could go away, so the main control units had to be reflashed almost every time the car was serviced. Naturally, with each MOT, the problems became less and less, and over time, almost all the shortcomings were resolved, and those that remained can often be eliminated by a normal system reboot. But with oxidized contacts, everything is more difficult - the main problem areas are the wiring loops of the rear left wheel, and the electric cross-axle differential. The loss of communication in the circuit is usually accompanied by lowering the body to the middle or lower position and the dashboard flickering like a Christmas tree. Often, the owners blame the loss of contacts in the fog lights and direction indicators.

Driving performance Land Rover Discovery 3 with mileage

The main difference between the third generation Discovery and its predecessors is the presence of a fully independent suspension with the ability to change the clearance. With this innovation, the manufacturer has significantly improved the ride, handling and cross-country ability of the car. Despite the fact that air bellows are protected by metal casings, problems with them are a fairly common phenomenon. Due to the unfortunate location of the compressor (near the rear left wheel), very often inexperienced service station employees confuse it with a jack support. There are cars with conventional suspension, but they are a rarity in the secondary market. The Land Rover Discovery 3 suspension is very weak, as for a car of this class, and in our reality it has to be sorted out, on average, once every 60-80 thousand km.

Most often, the stabilizer struts and silent blocks of the front levers fail (replacement every 40-50 thousand km), front wheel bearings (change complete with steering knuckles), ball bearings and steering tips will last a little longer - up to 70-80 thousand km The air suspension requires special attention (it is necessary to check the air bellows for cracks in order to prevent the compressor from idling) and with proper care it will last 100-120 thousand km. Unlike many cars with a pneumatic system, repair of the Discovery 3 suspension is not expensive. Up to 100,000 km, a backlash appears in the steering rack and, if it is not repaired immediately, then, over time, the rack will have to be replaced, and this is not a cheap pleasure - about 1500 USD.

Outcome:

When choosing a used Land Rover Discovery 3, try to avoid cars from the first years of production, the fact is that every year the manufacturer eliminated more and more shortcomings, as a result, most of the shortcomings were eliminated. We can safely say that the myths about the unreliability of this car are in the past, therefore, buying this model in the secondary market is a very reasonable decision.

Advantages:

Frame body structure.
Rich equipment.
Comfort suspension.
Audio system ( Harman Kardon).

Flaws:

When operating a car in a metropolis, corrosion appears on the frame.
High fuel consumption.
A small resource of the suspension.
Not very reliable electrical.
