The car's suspension characteristics are not bad; it is an independent suspension with stabilizer bars at both the front and rear. Earlier versions had a coil spring (2000) and a transverse stabilizer (2005) as rear suspension.
One of the most successful models, Kia Optima, underwent an update in 2016, and we are not talking about another restyling, but about a change of generations. Although you can’t tell from the outside, since the fourth generation sedan at first glance is practically no different from its predecessor. When you look at the photos of the fourth Optima, you can’t help but wonder: why was it necessary to spend a lot of resources to cook the old, not yet forgotten, only with a new sauce? Design
Changes to the Optima's exterior are minimal. Many details, proportions and silhouette were preserved, but windows were cut into the rear pillars, and the parting lines of the cargo compartment door and hood also changed. The originality of the four-door is emphasized by embossed sidewalls, narrow headlights and taillights, elegant door handles and a narrowed signature radiator grille in the “tiger smile” style (it would be more accurate to call it a “grin”), and fairly large exterior mirrors provide good visibility. During the modernization, the length, height and wheelbase of the car increased by 10 mm, and the width increased by 30 mm, which cannot be seen in the photo, but can be felt in the cabin - it has definitely become a little more spacious than before.
By the way, the trunk of the new product, like the previous version, is spacious - it holds 510 liters. luggage at least. The luggage compartment lid hinges are now wrapped in plastic. If we talk about the design in general, then the Optima 2016 is very stylish and modern - it’s not a shame to go with friends to a fashionable party in such a car, especially since you don’t immediately recognize it as “Asian”, except perhaps by the nameplates. In the city, a Korean sedan is always appropriate and looks “at home”, demonstrating quite urban habits.
Design
The platform of the fourth Optima is borrowed from the previous generation model and modified to improve handling. The MacPherson front suspension subframe is now attached to the body not through 2, but through 4 bushings, the rear trailing arms have slightly increased in length (due to this, the distance between the wheel axles has increased by 10 mm - to 2.805 m), and their silent blocks have become more rigid. The attachment points for the subframes to the body were placed wider, the front wheel bearings were strengthened, and the alloy wheel rims were made stiffer by as much as 83%.
Adaptation to Russian conditions
In order to improve the Optima's position on the Russian market, the suspension was not only improved, but the ground clearance was also increased from 135 to 155 mm - thanks to the high ground clearance, the sedan became more confident in overcoming various obstacles on the roads. In addition, the four-door received a rich “winter” package of options - it includes heated windshield in the rest area of the windshield wipers, all seats, side mirrors and steering wheel without exception. Kia has also worked on sound insulation: the level of noise and vibration has been reduced by a couple of percent due to new window seals and more effective insulation under the floor and behind the dashboard.
Comfort
The interior of the new generation model is slightly more spacious than its predecessor, which is mainly due to the increase in size. This is especially noticeable in the second row seats, where there is more legroom and headroom. The knees of the rear passengers will be comfortable, even if you move the front seats all the way back. The windows in the rear doors do not go down all the way; manually pulled curtains are only available in the top-end GT Line and GT trim levels. In addition, there are air ducts, a 12-volt socket and a USB port for charging mobile devices at the rear. In front, wireless charging of a smartphone is possible on a special platform in the center console (in Prestige, GT Line and GT versions).
The first-row seats have a rigid frame, side support bolsters that are set too wide, pleasant-to-touch leather upholstery, as well as heating and ventilation functions. The driver's seat has a wide range of longitudinal adjustment, and the front passenger seat has electric drive control buttons on the side, thanks to which the person sitting behind can, if necessary, move the empty seat back and thereby free up legroom. The quality of the seats and the interior as a whole does not raise any questions. The center console is turned towards the driver and attracts attention with climate control and media system units made in the BMW style. The selected temperature mode is displayed on the central display - there is no need to look for it next to the climate controls. Next to the gearshift lever are buttons for heated steering wheel, selection of driving modes (Sport and Normal) and all-round video review. The Optima's steering wheel is excellent - with leather braiding, manual gear shift paddles (all 2-pedal models) and a rim truncated at the bottom (in GT Line and GT versions). The instrument cluster is no frills, but quite informative. In the center of the dashboard there is an information display with a diagonal of 3.5 to 4.3 inches, depending on the configuration.
