In 2017 experts of the German publication Auto Bild have tested the BF Goodrich G Force Finter 2 at size 225/50 R17 and compared it with nineteen similar budget, mid-range and premium winter tyres. To illustrate the results, one unnamed summer tire also took part in the test.
Test results
Based on the BFGoodrich g Force Winter 2 test, it placed sixth overall and received a “good” peer review. The tire revealed its best qualities in the snow, where it turned out to have the shortest braking distance and excellent handling. In addition, the tire provides the highest resistance to hydroplaning, average behavior on wet pavement and one of the worst on dry pavement. Otherwise, BF Goodrich distinguished itself by quiet running, average fuel efficiency and durability.

Feedback from experts who conducted the test:

New tread pattern
The BFGoodrich g-Force Winter 2 tire has a pronounced directional tread pattern, which differs from similar patterns by diamond-shaped inserts in the central part. The total number of independent tread blocks has been increased by 40% compared to the predecessor tire. This allowed not only to improve flotation in deep snow, but also to increase the efficiency of the tire on snow.
Special rubber compound
The BFGoodrich g-Force Winter 2's rubber compound is called "HelioCompound 3G" and until recently it was used exclusively in the premium models of the MICHELIN brand. It has excellent grip on wet and snowy surfaces, and also has good mileage and fuel efficiency.
New lamella structure
The sipes (micro-slots on the surface of the tread blocks) of the BFGoodrich g-Force Winter 2 tires have a unique, bowl-shaped structure with a closed contour. Thus, the tire's ability to grip on snow is retained, but the lamella is less deformed, which has a positive effect on tire handling.

The tread of the BFGoodrich G-Force Winter 2 tire is made using numerous grooves intersecting in the central part. This provided the tire with prompt cleaning of the contact patch from water and snow porridge. The number of lamellas in the tire was increased by 12% and the number of blocks by 40%, which made it possible to significantly reduce the braking distance and improve traction characteristics on winter roads. The special structure of directional sipes in the center and zigzag sipes in the shoulder area of the tread prevents block deformation during acceleration and braking. The tread of the BFGoodrich G-Force Winter 2 tire uses a Helio Compound 3G rubber compound containing silicon and sunflower oil. This contributed to the preservation of the working properties of the tire even at low temperatures.

The developers focused on three generalized areas of transformation - acceleration, movement and braking. The following technical solutions were involved:
1.Overclocking The car accelerates confidently and quickly on snow and ice, thanks to excellent grip. It is provided by densely cut wavy lamellae, which form additional contact edges. The optimized profile and the contact patch, worked out through computer optimization systems, expand the area of action of the sipes. The directional tread pattern confidently cuts through the snow.
2.Traffic. The car is perfectly controllable on winter surfaces. This is facilitated by the drainage system, which immediately relieves the contact spot from snow slush and water, maintaining good grip. The forked center rib bites into the road and provides quick steering response and good directional stability. The shoulder blocks are located in the transverse direction relative to the movement and are made of a compound that is both hard and elastic. This provides cornering stability.
3.Braking. Reliable braking properties on all surfaces are guaranteed. The large contact patch contributes to rapid deceleration. Block edges and numerous sipes cling to the road, generate heat and stop the tire.

The BFGoodrich G-Force Winter 2 outperforms the previous generation in almost every performance, primarily snow grip, braking distance and durability. This was achieved through the use of a new tread pattern and advanced technologies.
Compared to its predecessor, the tread of this model has lost two longitudinal ribs in the central part. Here it is occupied by numerous diamond-shaped and rectangular blocks, which are located both longitudinally and at an acute angle. In addition, the number of such elements has been increased, and quite significantly - up to 40%, depending on the size of the tire. This made it possible to significantly increase the grip on snow, which is most pronounced during longitudinal accelerations.
The next difference between this tire and the previous generation model is the use of two types of sipes. In the center of the tread there are transverse straight sipes. They improve the performance of the tire when accelerating on slippery surfaces, and in addition, further improve the resistance to hydroplaning. In turn, the wavy sipes in the shoulder areas reduce the braking distance, and the corresponding shape of their walls limits the mobility of the blocks during lateral accelerations, which increases the stability of the tire when maneuvering.
