The most reliable premium car brands. Why premium cars are depreciating quickly Premium Japanese cars

In the United States, they named the brands whose cars break down the least often. American research company J.D. Power has published a rating of the most reliable car brands.

Experts analyzed the reliability of 2017 models. The study covers over 30 brands. You can see its results in our material:.

What can I say if Jeremy Clarkson himself praised the Volvo in a recent test drive you can find. The only thing the British journalist was dissatisfied with was the engine. The diesel engine did not impress the legendary host.

Only three fewer breakdowns were found in Land Rover. Actually, why surprise: the British brand is part of the same holding company with Jaguar, which, in turn, belongs to the Indians. Accordingly, the quality of the two brands is approximately the same.

Audi closes the five premium outsiders with 115 breakdowns per 100 cars.

The most trusted premium brands

Genesis tops the luxury reliability leaderboard. This is the premium division of Korean Hyundai, which was founded in 2015 specifically for the production of extremely expensive models. At Genesis, 77 breakdowns were found per 100 cars.

In second place is Porsche. And although the company has a family relationship with Audi (both brands are part of the Volkswagen group), Porsche cars break down much less often: Americans counted 78 breakdowns per 100 Porsches.

Third place goes to BMW. Bavarian cars have 10 more than their Porsche counterparts. The most reliable "boomers" were recognized as BMW 2 Series, BMW 4 Series and BMW X6.

The fourth place was taken by Lincoln, which had 92 breakdowns per 100 cars.

Another American, Buick, closes the top five with 95 breakdowns per hundred cars.

In the world car market. The rating is called JD Power APEAL. The ranking is based on a survey of 84,000 new car buyers who operate their vehicles in the first 90 days after purchase. The survey includes 74 items of satisfaction and attractiveness.

First of all, the company uses a survey to find out the satisfaction of consumers with their purchase of a new car. Next comes the analysis of the reliability and quality of vehicles during operation. Cases of breakdowns that are associated with factory defects are also taken into account. Not the least role, of course, is played by the visual appeal of new cars. The maximum score of 1000 points is taken as a basis. The industry average for the year is 798 points.

Here is a list of the most attractive cars, according to the opinion.

1. Porsche - 874

The German luxury car maker has been named Most Attractive Brand 11 times in a row. Such amazing results are made possible by models such as, and. Thus, all three models showed the best results among other brands (each in its own segment). And this despite the fact that the most famous car of the brand is the 911 model, which, despite its classic stunning appearance, was inferior in attractiveness to the Chevrolet Corvette.

2. Jaguar - 855

British luxury brand Jaguar remains in second place, ahead of the top brands. This is made possible by the new F-Type sports car and a host of other new sedans. And this is a fact. No one will deny that all the latest Jaguar models have evolved significantly for the better compared to their predecessors.

3. BMW - 854

6. Land Rover - 843

The second half of the Jaguar company ranks sixth in the 2015 attractiveness rating. Recall that in recent years the company has significantly updated its entire lineup, which allows the brand to occupy high ratings.

7. Lincoln - 842

This is the best American brand in this ranking. And judging by the fact that the Lincoln company lost only one point to Land Rover, it can be concluded that the attractiveness of the American brand has really improved dramatically in recent years.

8. Cadillac - 838

Lincoln's main competitor is a company that, at the end of the year, failed to outstrip its eternal rival in attractiveness, taking only eighth place in the ranking.

9. Infiniti - 835

Completed by two Japanese luxury brands. Infiniti has surpassed the Lexus brand this year. This is made possible by the QX80's victory in the luxury full-size SUV segment. For example, the QX80, having received the highest rating in reviews, outstripped it in attractiveness.

10. Lexus - 831

Rounding out the list of the most attractive cars in the world, despite the fact that Toyota did not end the year well. Thus, according to a survey by JD Power, the attractiveness of Toyota cars has seriously fallen over the past year.

Recently, our articles on used cars have become more like little encyclopedias. We divide them into two parts, but each is still very long. A detailed analysis of all typical malfunctions will be incredibly useful to those who are choosing such a car right now, are going in the future or have bought only recently, and now want to understand what to do about it. What if the technical details are not so interesting and you just want to dream? No problems. Here's a rather superficial, but dotting the "i" material about business sedans.

If life turns in such a way that you need an interesting and prestigious car worth up to a million, with a strict sedan body, then the choice turns out to be very rich. A little research will show that the price of expensive sedans is dropping at a surprisingly brisk pace, and at the age of five or six, they can be picked up with virtually no hands. Cars, the price tag of which was newer than three million, can now be purchased in a completely live state three times cheaper. The question is what to prefer. After all, there are almost no uninteresting cars here.

What will we choose from?

Let's make a reservation right away that we do not consider cars over the age of ten, since this is already a venerable age for a car. Even very high-quality models at this age can require high costs, prestige is lost, and the appearance is no longer so impressive. Searching among absolutely new ones, having no more than a million rubles, is simply not interesting. Will be available or frankly "empty" options, or something criminal.

Let's take the tastiest! The first three or four years, a car of this class loses most of its value, and we will throw in another year just in case. And let's see what's on the net. Taking into account the rather large costs of "bringing to mind", we will take the cost range with a margin, from 800 thousand rubles to a million with a trifle.

Dimensions (edit)

Cars of three main classes fall into our price category: D, E and F, with the clear advantage of the "older" E. Comparatively compact D-class sedans are less popular in Russia, simply because, other things being equal, they are not much cheaper than larger cars. Accordingly, it is more difficult to find a suitable copy here.

Memento mori: choosing a BMW 5 series F10 with mileage

It combines the paradoxical. The highest reliability and thoughtfulness of the design, the minimum number of failures, banal strength, and ... the ability to literally absorb money for its maintenance, exhausting ...

As for the purchase of flagship F-class cars for personal use, this is not the way for everyone. In most cases, the public expects to see a hired driver behind the wheel and the owner in the back seat. Of course, driving such a car is not forbidden, but does it make sense if the difference with the E-class in terms of driver's comfort is not so great, driving pleasure is usually less, and the costs for it are higher?

German E-class

Let's start with the most coveted - Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi. By the way, it is curious that in Russia Audi does not lag behind the other two in terms of status, although in Germany the position of the “junior” in this trio leaves no doubt. Apparently, the love for VW products among the people and the fact that we just do not know the history of Audi outside the 1990s, that is, we don’t remember the times when the “four rings” were far from the premium, is evident. But we got distracted ...

In the photo: Mercedes-Benz (W212) '2009-12

On the technical side, it resembles a slightly refined C-class, which is good in terms of costs for the suspension and various systems, but not for handling. And the worst thing is the dominance of M271 series motors with their low-resource and expensive timing and the frankly unsuccessful first series of automatic transmission 722.9.

Of course, there is a choice - you can take a car with a more resourceful M272, but there are also a lot of disadvantages. From an inexpensive and relatively reliable one, the diesel version can be recommended, but it still needs to be found.

Audi A6 C7 looks like a million, but the technology will not please. CVT or DSG? Are you seriously offering a choice? Of course, the seven-speed S-Tronic robot performed for Audi is actually not so bad, and the latest revision of the variator for front-wheel drive cars behaves quite adequately. Everything would be fine if not for the motors.

The most "interesting" from the point of view of power 3.0 TFSI is strongly discouraged, and 2.0 TFSI in these years is also not encouraging, moreover, they are rather weak for a heavy car. True, there is a three-liter diesel engine, but with it the car is much more expensive than our limit. And the choice between front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive with very insipid handling will discourage drivers with ambitions. You say spaciousness in the rear seats? But we take the car not for the wife or for the transportation of passengers, but for ourselves ...

German D-class

But what if you look at a smaller car? Maybe all the same it will turn out cheaper and richer? Especially if you rarely have to carry someone behind ...

Fortunately, there is Volvo. The brand is gradually turning from a very “alternative” into a mass product. In any case, the S 60 II is also extremely widespread. And at the same time, they are not very expensive both in acquisition (you can find them fresher) and in service due to the affinity with Ford and the Swedish thorough approach.

In terms of running characteristics, they are almost always inferior to German cars, but on the other hand, there are much less technical problems, the price of spare parts is lower, and hull insurance will come out cheaper. After all, they are hijacked noticeably less often than the German premium, not to mention the Lexus. And in terms of comfort, they are not far behind, except that less perfect suspension designs do not allow you to get a magical combination of smoothness and controllability.

So which should you choose?

There is no definite solution. I will be banal, but for driver's emotions and prestige to you to BMW. If you want reliability, then to Lexus, Infiniti and Volvo. Everything else will be somewhere in between. But the final choice should be made only after you get to know the cars live and drive each of them behind the wheel. Premium cars can and should be chosen with the heart. Especially if you have a budget for maintenance.

It's no secret that the more expensive a car is, the more comfortable, luxurious and powerful it is. Unfortunately, premium cars, as well as cheaper vehicles, lose their value over time due to natural operating depreciation. But unlike conventional cars, they are getting cheaper and cheaper. Why is this happening? After all, logically, the better the car, the slower it should lose value. But it’s not like that.

At first glance, a used luxury and premium vehicle is an alluring prospect for many potential buyers. Especially for those who, having sold their economy car, decided to add money to buy a more premium class car. Also, the temptation to buy a premium car stems from the fact that the pricing of used premium cars on the market develops in such a way that many not quite old luxury cars in just a few years become cheaper by up to 50 percent of the original price. Agree, resisting the temptation to buy a rather old premium car is very, very difficult.

That is why every year thousands of people in our country buy a lot of used premium cars, but subsequently face huge expenses associated with their maintenance and repair. Believe me, if 80 percent of premium used car owners knew in advance about their huge operating costs, then most would not buy such vehicles.

The reason is that many drivers believe that maintaining and maintaining a premium used car is not very costly compared to conventional, inexpensive cars. Yes, naturally, many understand that the cost of owning a premium car is definitely higher. But believe me, no one suggests that owning a used luxury car is actually an unaffordable luxury for 80 percent of the Russian population.

Firstly, as is usually the case in our country, even on the used market, most buyers of used cars buy them either with the last money (or one of the last), or on credit. But unfortunately, when buying premium cars on the used market, you need to remember that buying a luxury car with the last money carries an unjustified risk. Especially if you buy on credit. Remember, to own a premium car, even in perfect condition, you need to have a constant and definite supply of cash. The thing is that the more expensive and premium the car model, the more expensive its maintenance and the cost of spare parts.

That is, if you are going to buy a premium, then you should easily and without regret be ready, if necessary, to part with a huge amount of money for a planned or necessary repair of the car.

In addition, in addition to the high cost of ownership, expensive car models lose their market value very quickly in the market. For example, in the very first year after purchasing a premium car at a car dealership, the car can depreciate in just 1 year to 30-35 percent. And in 2-3 years, some luxury cars usually fall in price up to 50-55 percent.

Why do luxury cars depreciate so quickly?

One of the factors is of course the balance of supply and demand in the market. We all know that the more expensive a car is on the market, the less demand for this model in the market. The same story goes for the power of the car, which affects economy and the size of the annual property tax. After all, as a rule, most luxury cars have a lot of power. Unfortunately, not all car enthusiasts can afford to buy such powerful cars, since their family income does not allow them to spend a lot of money on fuel and on an annual luxury tax.

That is why the demand for 2-3 year old premium cars is certainly not the same as for similar years vehicles in the inexpensive price segment.

In addition, as a rule, after 2-3 years, many premium cars run out of factory warranty and their owners begin to list used luxury cars for sale on the used market. As a result, there is an imbalance in the supply / demand balance in the market and the market value of luxury cars begins to go down, which leads to a serious depreciation of such cars in a fairly short period of time.

But this is not the only reason for the fall in market prices for premium cars. The fact is that, as we briefly said above, the so-called premium cars require more expensive maintenance than conventional non-luxury vehicles. Why is the service more expensive? Everything is very simple. As a rule, more innovative design developments are used in premium cars. Naturally, all the components in expensive cars cost much more than similar parts for inexpensive cars.

But thanks to the more sophisticated designs of luxury cars, the automaker provides its customers with maximum comfort in luxury vehicles. And everyone knows that you have to pay for comfort.

It should also be remembered that even within the same brand, all models of the company require completely different costs for their maintenance. So, for example, maintenance is much cheaper than, for example, the cost of maintaining a 5-series or 7-series BMW.

That is, each premium brand has an entry-level lineup that is less expensive to own than older models. The thing is that, as a rule, more expensive older models of any premium brand are equipped at the factory with more premium standard and additional functions that are not found on younger vehicle models.

Air suspension is a good example of such a function, the advantage of which is evident only on paper. Yes, we have nothing against air suspension, which allows us to create an unforgettable level of comfort in the car. But the air suspension only works perfectly while the car is new. Then even not-so-old used air suspension vehicles start to experience problems with its performance. As a result, due to the rapid deterioration of some components of the pneumatic suspension, owners of used premium cars begin to stack up with huge expenses for its repair.

Recall that the air suspension is one in which, instead of steel springs and hydraulic or gas shock absorbers, special air bellows (air bags) are used, into which compressed air is pumped. This type of suspension allows you to adjust the level of comfort while driving, as well as automatically change the vehicle's ground clearance.

Air suspension is the most complex system in the automotive industry. As a result, due to the complexity of the design and the specifics of the system, many components of the air suspension wear out rather quickly. So the air suspension design includes an air compressor, air cylinders for each wheel, hoses, special connectors and electronics that controls the entire system. The main enemy of air suspension is mechanical failure, such as failure of the compressor or air bellows. Remember that even on a fairly fresh car with low mileage, the air suspension can easily fail. Unfortunately, the work on the repair of such a suspension system is laborious and, accordingly, expensive. Plus, don't forget that the cost of air suspension components is many times higher than the cost of spare parts for a conventional suspension system.

Insurance costs

As you already understood, owning a premium car is not a very cheap pleasure, even if the car does not break down. But the cost of maintenance, tax and the cost of spare parts are not all that affect the final cost of owning a luxury car. For example, if you buy a luxury car, your insurance costs will be significantly higher than a regular economy or middle class car.

This is especially true of used premium cars, the insurance rate for which may be even higher than for a new premium car.

Be smart and cool when buying a car

Deciding to buy a car,. You must know exactly whether the chosen model is right for you, as well as whether you can master the costs of maintaining the car.

If your whole life dreams of owning a premium car, and you have the opportunity to purchase a similar car on the used market, then you should not rejoice. Assess your financial capabilities, which should be comparable to the cost of maintaining a luxury car. Remember that you should always have money to service and repair an expensive car model.

You should also soberly assess and realize that by buying a luxury car it will depreciate in a short time. Are you willing to lose money in exchange for a superior car?

As you already understood, any premium used car is a potential risk of high costs for repair and maintenance (even if you service the car not from an authorized dealer and purchase non-original Chinese counterfeit parts).

Unfortunately, in our country, many people are financially illiterate and often make mistakes when purchasing expensive models from a used car market without soberly assessing their future financial expenses.

Remember that buying any premium car is not only an overpayment when purchasing it, but also taking on unnecessary risks of future potential problems in the process of owning a vehicle.

So buying a used or used Lexus or Mercedes should not be a risky decision for you and your family budget.

Therefore, keep your mind and do not succumb to weakness and emotion while staring at premium cars. Remember that buying an expensive premium car is almost always guaranteed to ruin your wallet for a lot of money. So if you earn enough and you have nowhere else to spend your money (although we doubt it), then buy a luxury car. But if your income is not constant and not large enough or the inflation is high in the country, then you should think a thousand times before purchasing a luxury used car.
