Diesel engine for UAZ Hunter iveco. Design of the UAZ Patriot fuel supply system with an Iveco F1A diesel engine, maintenance and features of the supply system. Interior decoration of UAZ Patriot

UAZ has an anniversary: exactly 70 years ago, in the early autumn of 1941, the Stalin Automobile Plant was evacuated from Moscow to Ulyanovsk. Ulyanovsk residents offered to celebrate their anniversary on the western coast of Lake Baikal - with a trip to Patriots with Iveco diesel engines, which will also very soon become part of the plant's history.

I would like it to be the other way around - the end of the beginning.

Who among the residents of the Russian outback has not dreamed of a diesel UAZ? At different times, the “goat” was wooed by units of Russian, Italian, Austrian, German, Japanese, Polish and even Chinese origin. But imported heavy fuel engines were expensive, and domestic ones were unreliable. However, the villagers spoke well of the Polish turbodiesel Andoria (AR No. 10, 2005), which was serially installed on the Hunter: they loved the engine for its simplicity, maintainability and “omnivorousness”. Well, the most successful third-party conversion was the UAZ with the Toyota 1 KZ-TE diesel engine - the most powerful in the “herd”.

Since August 2008, UAZ workers decided to switch to Italian Iveco F1A diesel engines - the same ones that are installed on Fiat Ducato commercial vehicles assembled by Sollers. The UAZ Patriot SUVs equipped with them have already sold seven thousand copies (five times as many gasoline cars have been sold), but I was able to fully drive a diesel Patriot only now.

I could listen to Priolkhon shaman Valentin Khagdaev for hours: this man’s stories are like a local history lesson taught by a good and enthusiastic teacher. But as soon as my colleagues asked Valentin to predict something or read his hand, I tactfully stepped aside

The Ulyanovsk residents chose a noble place for the anniversary rides: to the east of Irkutsk there are roads of such quality that after just a couple of tens of kilometers the car develops not only “childhood” diseases, but also chronic diseases. Passengers, by the way, too!

Deciding to take a break from the unbearable shaking, I stop at the end of the dusty primer, open the door - and give a thumbs up: the door seals on the Patriots have finally learned to install as they should! The rubber bands now do not “get chewed” in the openings and effectively seal the joints (the leakage of the Patriot’s body, I remember, was a big annoyance during the Aral trip - AR No. 17, 2009). After giving the grader a good whack, I noticed that the trunk door stopped knocking, the cup holder no longer “shoots” on bumps, and the plastic “fangs” of the rear bumper do not fall off due to vibration. But the rattling of the steering shaft joints on a car with a mileage of 5000 km is an embarrassment. Especially after the plant’s announcement about tightening control over the quality of third-party components.

Look at the shoes the Irkutsk UAZ dealers wear on the Patriots! On Taiwanese Maxxis Buckshot Mudder tires, the UAZ looks like a real macho - and gallops briskly over sharp rocks (over 700 km of driving I only cut one sidewall - a good result), effectively tearing up dense sand and balancing well in high-speed dirt turns. However, in the mud, the car became like a village drunk, wandering home with an amplitude from fence to fence: a couple of times, at the exit from a harmless turn, I almost leaned sideways against a roadside birch tree.

In the steppes stretching along the western coast of Lake Baikal, there are a lot of sharp stones. Yawn a little - get the jack!

The generator on the new ZMZ-51432 engine is mounted 129 mm higher than on the Iveco diesel engine. God grant that this is not the only advantage of the Trans-Volga engine

What's happening? I stop on a dry patch, turn the front wheels all the way and begin to examine the tread. By God, the ancient petroglyphs on the Baikal cliff of Sagan-Zaba were easier to decipher! It seems that the “checkers” are correct and the slats are wide. There are even side lugs. But there is no “holder”! On harmless gentle slopes, the car immediately fell downhill and completely refused to get out of the rut.

External speed characteristics of the Iveco F1A engine

The Iveco F1A engine was developed by the Powertrain Technologies division of the FIAT concern. This is exactly the engine that powers the editorial Fiat Ducato truck, which is currently undergoing a life test at the Dmitrov Automotive Test Site

In general, fashionable “sneakers” on the Russian off-road will have to be replaced with something more practical. The diesel Patriot also needs a more intimate accessory. The fact is that, due to the layout features of the engine, the depth of fording on this machine is set not by the cooling system fan or the air intake pipe, but by the low-hanging generator: when our cars drove into the water, the instructors prepared for the worst. If the red charging lamp lights up in the instrument cluster, then you can prepare to spend the night in the forest - we won’t reach the base on one battery. The only thing that can be done before overcoming deep fords is to put a protective “muzzle” made of a plastic bottle on the generator.

Couldn't this problem have been solved in three years of production? After all, there is a development testing stage!

I didn’t expect any particular agility from the 116-horsepower Iveco diesel engine - there wasn’t any. Of course, compared to its competitors, the Italian engine looks quite quiet and does not bother with vibrations - there is no annoying itching on any of the controls. But when driving in off-road conditions... No, the diesel is not weak - it is just inconvenient. If on commercial vehicles like the Ducato the power unit operates mainly in static load mode, then when driving off-road, the traction must be dosed, and dosed accurately. The left edge of the torque curve of the Italian diesel engine is flat, and when moving at low speeds (even with the range multiplier on), it is difficult to understand whether the engine is in a turbo lag or is ready to produce the declared 270 Nm. It would be nice to increase the final drive ratio a little, but then the Patriot would become uncomfortable on the asphalt, because its engine already overtorques when overtaking.

You can get to the “Pearl of Baikal” recreation center on wheels, located near the village of Bolshoye Goloustnoye, only along the coastline. And only at low water

To see Baikal, it’s not enough to come to it: you also need to bring good weather with you. We brought it!

On the move, the diesel Patriot is able to overcome almost any muddy area. But where careful maneuvering is required, the unacceptably low grip properties of the Maxxis Buckshot Mudder tires immediately make themselves felt.

The solution is to use the electronic gas pedal. That is, adjust the rheostat setting so that in the low speed zone the engine responds more cheerfully to an increase in fuel supply. And it’s better to do this not mathematically, but expertly: for example, with the help of Buryat shamans, because the cult ministers of Olkhon Island know how to penetrate someone else’s consciousness and even predict the future - at least that’s what my colleagues who communicated with one of the mediums claimed.

But, alas, the UAZ people will neither adjust the accelerator nor waterproof the generator. I can predict the future of Italian diesel engines even without shamans - and my Tuvan experience with ritual (AR No. 17, 2011) has nothing to do with it. Since Sollers has just “divorced” from FIAT, Iveco diesel engines will no longer be installed on UAZs - and in the very near future a Russian engine, the Volga ZMZ-51432, will appear under the Patriot’s hood. Hearing this name, the experienced “goat breeders” will shudder in fear, since the old “five hundred and fourteenth” diesel engine spoiled their blood so much that it was cursed even by the repairmen. The Patriots will be equipped with an updated version of it, equipped with a common rail power system and meeting the Euro 4 environmental class. According to the stated characteristics, the Euro-ZMZ is very close to the Iveco engine, however, remembering the spread of output parameters on old Trans-Volga diesel engines, it’s hard to believe in the stability of the output. In an acceptable resource too.

But the Sollers group does not share these concerns: according to marketers, in the last year alone, consumer interest in the diesel program has grown by 35%, and they are confident that ZMZ-51432 will find demand. And the Ulyanovsk Patriot is also undergoing serious interior changes, so 2012 for this car will most likely mark a generational change.

Echoes of War

Igor VLADIMIRSKY

Already in the first months of the Great Patriotic War, strategically important factories began to be evacuated from the western regions of the country. In October, the threat of capture loomed over Moscow; a decision was made to urgently relocate capital enterprises, among which one of the largest was ZIS (named after Stalin). In addition to cars, they produced ammunition, equipment for the production of weapons, as well as forgings and castings for aircraft and tank factories.

Four sites were chosen for the evacuation of the ZIS - in Shadrinsk (future SHAAZ), Troitsk, Miass (future UralAZ) and Ulyanovsk. In total, 12,800 pieces of equipment were transported from the plant to the rear - shipping took place around the clock, and unloading on site was carried out mainly manually using wooden rollers, cables and ropes.

Ulyanovsk was then a small (population - 105 thousand people) regional center of the Kuibyshev region, so most of the workers were transported from Moscow - a total of 90 thousand people came to Ulyanovsk, including women and children. They built the plant in an open field, and at first, until the diesel power plant and boiler room were installed, electricity was provided by a diesel-electric train, and pipes carrying steam from decommissioned locomotives were used to heat the workshops.

The new plant was named UlZIS - ammunition production began here in February 1942, and a tool shop was launched in March. The assembly of ZIS-5 trucks from previously imported Moscow components was mastered in May 1942, and deliveries of power units from Miass were delayed, so the first vehicles rolled off wooden stocks without engines or gearboxes. The main assembly line was launched in October - up to 60 trucks could leave it per day. At the same time, the recruitment of other workshops was completed. Think about it - only a year passed from the moment the plant was founded to the start of the rhythmic production of cars! According to the laws of war.

Almost immediately, work began in Ulyanovsk to create a new generation diesel truck, several prototypes were even made, but subsequently all the developments on the vehicle were “left” for the ZIS. Another interesting fact: at the end of 1943, several hundred Studebaker trucks received from the USA under Lend-Lease were assembled at UlZIS. And in February 1944, the construction of the plant in Miass was completely completed, and it was decided to transfer the assembly of ZIS vehicles to the Urals.

The first products of the plant are the ZIS-5 truck and its simplified version ZIS-5V with a wooden cabin (pictured). From May 1942 to February 1944, more than 10 thousand three-ton tanks were made in Ulyanovsk

The transfer of production of GAZ-AA one-and-a-half trucks from Gorky to Ulyanovsk began in the fall of 1945, and two years later mass production of these vehicles began with a gradual increase in the share of components produced in-house

After the war, it was decided to fill the idle capacities with the production of the much-needed GAZ-AA truck for the country - this decision forever predetermined the kinship of Ulyanovsk cars with GAZ products. The first gaziki rolled off the assembly line in October 1947. And seven years later, passenger cars also joined the trucks - at the end of 1954, the assembly of GAZ-69 SUVs began. At the same time, a chief designer department was finally created at the plant - the time had come to design our own models under the UAZ brand.

The first-born was the famous UAZ-450 family of carriage-type vehicles, the production of which began in 1958 and continues to this day in a modernized form. A new body stamping workshop was built especially for “loaves” and “tadpoles”, and in the summer of 1962, to reduce labor intensity, a unique multi-level assembly line was launched, which was not then available at any car plant in the USSR - and which is still in operation today.

nine thousand workers produced 55 thousand SUVs and trucks, and the net profit amounted to 1 billion 370 million rubles. The plan for this year is 57 thousand cars.

The production of GAZ-69 and 69A SUVs in Ulyanovsk began in 1954. With minor changes, the cars lasted on the assembly line for 19 years - a total of 597 thousand cars were produced with a lower engine from Pobeda (2.1 l, 52 hp) and a three-speed gearbox

The UAZ Patriot SUV is equipped with an Italian Iveco diesel engine. Attempts to combine it with diesel ZMZ and Andoria were unsuccessful. Structurally, the modern Iveco diesel engine is perfect for the engine compartment of a domestic car. The engine cooling radiator is produced at a Russian plant.

On the UAZ Patriot, the power steering is equipped with a column that is safe against injury. The hydraulic booster and air conditioning system are supplied by the American company Delphi. A company from Germany, Continental Teves, manufactures the brake cylinder and vacuum booster.

Advantages of UAZ Patriot with Iveco engine

UAZ Patriot diesel not only has increased power and improved efficiency, it is also safer in comparison with ZMZ-514 and VAZ cars. It is successfully used both on city highways with heavy traffic and in extreme off-road conditions.

Along with safety and efficiency, the diesel engine has a comfortable, roomy interior that can accommodate 9 people including the driver if necessary.

Specifications

The production of the first UAZ Patriot models, complete with an Iveco diesel engine, began in 2008. This engine is installed in both Fiat Ducato vans and Iveco Daily commercial vehicles. The design of the modern power unit does not have any frills.

Characteristics of UAZ Patriot and ZMZ-514:

  1. Each cylinder has 4 valves.
  2. Fuel system with turbocharging and common rail.
  3. The volume of the turbodiesel is 2.3 liters, gasoline - 2.7 liters.
  4. The developed power of the diesel engine is 116 horsepower, the gasoline engine is 128 horsepower. With.
  5. Diesel engine speed - 3900 rpm.
  6. The diesel torque is 270 Nm, the gasoline one is 217, respectively.

Both the five-speed manual transmission and the dual-tank fuel system remain unchanged. Among the new products, we can note the appearance of a coarse filter and heating for a fine filter.

Interior decoration of UAZ Patriot

The interior of the modern Patriot compares favorably with older cars. Now it's light and spacious. The seats are very comfortable, thanks to the wide windows, excellent visibility is provided. The laconic instrument panel has a beautiful design. Numerous shelves, pockets and glove compartments are ready to accept various small items for storage.

Folding the second row seats forward frees up a lot of space in the trunk. For comparison, even a large modern refrigerator fits here in the kitchen.

Some drivers, if they really want to, manage to accommodate up to eight passengers in the car, using two additional folding benches in the trunk. Some models (like the Limited) have reclining benches as standard.

The torpedo of the car is supplied by the Iranian company AIDCO, the instruments come from Latvia from the RAR company, the seats are domestic products, although the license and technology for their production were developed in Korea by the Daewon group. The seats have a comfortable profile, the pillows are equipped with a microlift and lumbar support. Depending on the configuration, they are trimmed with leatherette, velor or special fabrics.

The position of the steering column can be adjusted to any angle of inclination, fixation is made at three points.

Some of the disadvantages of the salon include the following:

  • insufficient length of the gearshift lever;
  • absence of an indicator for a small amount of liquid in the windshield washer reservoir;
  • tight movement of the turn signal switch levers and steering wheel adjustments;
  • inconvenient shape of the handles of the air duct grilles;
  • too tight fit of the wipers to the glass causes unpleasant sounds;
  • unreliable fixation of door lock brackets.

Design features of the UAZ Patriot car

Patriot Iveco features reduced diesel fuel consumption (9 liters/100 km). Zavolzhsky gasoline engines consume more than 13 liters, respectively.

Key Features:

  1. Increase in the total weight of the Iveco diesel engine (225 kg).
  2. Strengthening the front suspension springs.
  3. Equipping the engine with a turbocharging system and exhaust gas recirculation.
  4. When operating at minimum idle speed, frequent penetration of engine oil into the fuel system is observed.
  5. The gearbox is mechanical.
  6. The UAZ engine is equipped with a special distribution mechanical pump that pumps fuel.
  7. The liquid cooling system is equipped with forced recirculation.

Thanks to the operation of the turbocharger, exhaust gases are removed faster.

Diesel fuel for diesel power units dramatically changes its technical parameters when the ambient temperature drops. Owners of new UAZ Patriot diesel crossovers need to familiarize themselves with some of the nuances of their operation.

When the atmospheric temperature drops below 0°C, it is undesirable to immediately start the diesel internal combustion engine. Recommended:

  • set the ignition key in the lock to the first position;
  • pause for 2-3 minutes;
  • continue launching.

These steps are necessary to preheat the fuel filter located in front of the fuel system.

A brand new Patriot purchased at a car dealership needs a thorough initial run-in. During the break-in period, movement must be carried out only in medium modes (gentle).

What is the break-in period? The duration of the running-in procedure is at least 2500 km. At this stage, it is not recommended to create extreme conditions for the machine; modes and loads should be minimal.

The service life of a diesel power unit is much longer than its gasoline counterparts. However, to increase the resource, you need to follow certain operating modes; the nature of your driving also plays an important role.

Under constant maximum loads, the car engine overheats, which leads to accelerated wear and premature failure of both individual parts and components and the entire engine. With such operation, the diesel engine will often need major repairs or complete replacement.

UAZ Iveco Patriot diesel engines are fueled only with high-quality fuel that meets the requirements of the Euro series.

High-quality motor oil is poured into the engine crankcase in accordance with the recommendations from the automakers of the particular vehicle. A mandatory procedure during maintenance is regular complete replacement of the lubricant.

The service intervals for oil changes are indicated in the accompanying documentation for the car - every 8,000 km. Lubricating fluids are updated using products from the same company that were previously used.

Timely replacement of the timing belt is also a mandatory step. To avoid serious damage to a diesel internal combustion engine, after every 60,000 - 100,000 km, the timing belt is replaced with a new model complete with a tension pulley.

The fact that the Patriot needed a diesel engine was clear even at the time of the car's debut in 2005. Over the years of production, “Patrick” was tried to be “married” with both ZMZ and Andoria diesel engines, but somehow it didn’t work out. It seemed that the idea of dieselizing the Patriot was again hanging in the air, but in 2006, the Russian auto holding Sollers (then Severstal-Auto), which also owns UAZ, has entered into an agreement with the Italian company Fiat for the licensed assembly of previous generation Fiat Ducato commercial vans in Russia. And soon it was decided to adapt a 4-cylinder diesel engine from these cars for the Patriot. The decision, on the one hand, is political (including, apparently, with hopes for export), and on the other hand, it is quite logical: there is confusion with domestic engines of a suitable class, but here we already have a mass-produced engine at hand, and even and well known in our country. Moreover, Sollers has not yet abandoned plans for licensed production of this engine in Russia.

The design of the engine is modern, but without frills: 4 valves per cylinder, common-rail fuel system with a common ramp and turbocharging

As a result, in August 2008 the production of the first UAZ Patriot with the Iveco F1A diesel engine began, which, in addition to Fiat Ducato vans, can also be found under the hood of Iveco Daily commercial vehicles. The design of the engine is modern, but without frills: 4 valves per cylinder, common-rail fuel system with a common ramp and turbocharging. With a volume of 2.3 liters, the turbodiesel develops 116 hp. at 3900 rpm versus 128 hp. at 4400 rpm for the base Patriot gasoline engine ZMZ-409.10 with a volume of 2.7 liters. Peak torque for both engines occurs at 2500 rpm, but for the diesel it is 53 Nm more: 270 Nm versus 217 for the gasoline engine.

The gearbox of the diesel Patriot remains the same: the mechanical five-speed gearbox from the Korean company Dymos with a German Luk clutch has changed only the mount to the engine. The fuel system with its archaic two-tank system remained almost unchanged.

Interior

Every time I climb into the Patriot, I want to exclaim “finally!” Finally, after so many decades, Ulyanovsk cars have a modern interior that is pleasant to sit in! It’s spacious, light, the high seating position in decently comfortable seats is combined with excellent visibility (the mirrors are wide!), bare metal doesn’t shine anywhere, and the laconic instrument panel is a pleasure to look at after previous factory experiments.

You no longer have to think about where to put a bunch of small travel items - there are now enough glove compartments and pockets inside.

For UAZ, such a salon is truly a step forward, just like the car itself. And let the same dashboard for the UAZ Patriot be made by the Iranian company AIDCO, the instrument cluster is supplied by the Latvian company RAR, and the seats are made in Russia using the technology of the Korean group Daewon. Better this than nothing.

The chairs are made in Russia using technology from the Korean group Daewon

Although there are enough comments. The steering column is adjustable in angle within a wide range, but is fixed in only three positions. With my height of 180 cm, it is more convenient for me to put the steering wheel in the middle position, but then the rim of the steering wheel safely overlaps the instrument panel, and you no longer look at the speedometer readings, but spy on them. You raise the steering wheel all the way up - high, lower it all the way down - it almost falls on your feet.
This begs for additional fixation positions. It's time to lengthen the gearshift lever a little. And add an indicator for the end of liquid in the windshield washer reservoir to the instrument scale. Can you also ask for less tight steering wheel adjustment levers and turn signal switches? And the fact that the small handles of the adjustable air duct grilles on the instrument panel can only be grasped by the tenacious fingers of a chimpanzee - is this intended? What is the sacred meaning of the fact that the “wipers” do not walk on the glass, but crawl, and even with such strained sounds, as if the drive electric motor was also simultaneously turning the wheels of the car?

Upon inspection, under the door lock brackets, pieces of coarse sandpaper were found...

But all these naive claims pale against the background of individual “pearls” of Ulyanovsk design thought. So, during inspection, under the door lock brackets, pieces of coarse sandpaper were found! Maybe, as in the joke, there is a secret? No, the factory openly answers that the emery is placed to, quote, “prevent involuntary movement of staples during operation”! Here it is, our hard-to-eradicate approach to quality: to put it in and reel it in instead of doing it once and for all! And here I am moaning about some knobs and buttons... Maybe at least Patriot will be rehabilitated in motion?

Asphalt

The key to start - and under the hood there was a muffled rumble. And when the speed increased, it began to rattle in the cabin and especially somewhere in the engine compartment.

The diesel engine itself runs smoothly and does not shake at idle, like a ZMZ gasoline engine. But the way at a certain moment certain parts in the cabin resonate with it is somewhat annoying. As if something somewhere is again not fully tightened, not insulated and unbalanced.
Old flaws also remain: when accelerating and driving at low speeds, the domestically produced transfer case still “growls” and rattles.

The leisurely nature of the Ivekov engine, which is noticeably inferior to a gasoline engine in the speed of acceleration, was not a surprise. Up to 1900 rpm it frankly “does not move”, then the turbine comes into play, the diesel vigorously drags the car until about 3000 rpm, and then turns sour again. In the city, this drowsiness is quite annoying, so you have to constantly keep the engine in good shape so as not to “fall asleep” in the middle of traffic. You can’t really drive on the highway either: the maximum speed of the diesel Patriot is 135 km/h versus 150 for the gasoline version. Although, to be honest, I don’t feel like driving. And not only because already at a speed of 100-110 km/h the diesel engine is already noticeably noisy, and because of the weak traction at the top, overtaking must be planned in advance.

The Patriot is simply not strong in high-speed asphalt disciplines, although one cannot help but admit that on the highway it, of course, drives better than anything that had previously been produced in Ilyich’s homeland. It no longer “floats” as much on a straight line, requires less steering and is more stable in an arc.

The rolling and soft suspension is still designed for off-road use.

But roll in corners, although it has become less due to the shock absorbers being moved closer to the wheels, still remains significant - the rolly and soft suspension is still designed for off-road use.

And the Delphi power steering cannot boast of clear feedback: when turning the steering wheel, which also needs to be turned at considerable angles, the car reacts sluggishly, and you steer as if through cotton wool, correcting the trajectory more with your eyes than with the feeling of the wheels.

What if you need to slow down? The Patriot has disc mechanisms at the front, drums at the rear, and the basic equipment of the Limited package already includes the latest, eighth-generation Bosch ABS along with the EBD brake force distribution system.

In general, there are enough brakes for a heavy car, but there are a couple of peculiarities here. It feels like the brake drive has retained the feature of working “on the pitch”, when on the first press the brake pedal goes further and easier than on the second press, when the pedal “bumps” a little and a greater reserve of force begins to be felt under it.

But when braking “to the floor,” you feel the car’s tendency to drift away from the straight line, although ABS with a brake force distributor, in theory, should combat this. They are fighting as best they can, but electronics alone cannot completely solve this problem. It looks like there is a question about the suspension design itself.

Of course, in Ulyanovsk Patriot was taught to drive on roads better than all its predecessors. But asphalt for him still remains not a habitat, but a territory for running from one off-road area to another. And here it is, by the way...

Off-road

The last meters of asphalt, which is uncomfortable for Patriot, are left behind, and we plop down with relief onto the dirt road washed out by days of rain. That's it, the beast is home!

The car is picked up like a cheetah released into the savannah after a walk on the ice skating rink.

Clumsy on the highway, off-road the car picks up like a cheetah released into the savannah after a walk on the ice rink.

Tanks don't slow down: everything will be swallowed up by the dense long-travel suspension and high-profile tires

What's under the wheels? Doesn't matter. Maybe we should slow down in front of that hole over there? For what?! This is a UAZ! Tanks don't slow down: everything will be swallowed up by the dense long-travel suspension and high-profile tires! And for the sake of this feeling of confidence, a lot can be forgiven for the car.

Well, let's go further into the fields? You no longer need to get out of the car to close the axle locks in the front axle hubs - they come from the factory without being disconnected. We move the single transfer case lever to position 4H - and forward.

Iveco motor at ease

Sleepy on the asphalt, the Iveco engine is at ease here. The diesel engine, which had not yet been properly run-in, purring busily, confidently dragged the Patriot through the soggy alumina of a construction quarry at speeds below 2000 per minute. With a gasoline engine, I would have stalled here several times already, but here the engine didn’t even resist too much when driving in a higher row of the transmission. With the inclusion of a lower gear, things went even more fun. There was no need to touch the gas pedal anymore - Patriot confidently climbed up the sandy hill at idle speed...

Patriot confidently climbed up the sandy hill at idle speed...

Having climbed all the surrounding fields and ravines over the course of several days and measured all the puddles and fords, I don’t remember ever being close to shameful capitulation. Patriot did not disgrace the Fatherland and climbed everywhere! And not the least merit in this is not only the serious parameters of geometric cross-country ability, but also the tenacity of standard universal Cordiant 4x4 tires. They honestly gnawed at the ground and pulled the car forward, even when the Patriot crawled along the rut, as they say, “on bridges.”

They honestly gnawed at the ground and pulled the car forward...

The transfer case did not cause any trouble either: apparently, it was finally cured of the self-switching off of the low row under load, which the owners of early cars suffered from.

But another feature of the Patriot, which also manifests itself off-road, is worth dwelling on separately. We're talking about ABS again. It stands guard even when downshifting. If the vehicle speed is 5 km/h or lower, the ABS is automatically turned off, but as soon as you accelerate above this threshold, the system turns on again. (Interestingly, at these “creeping” speeds, the ABS on the test car began to work with such a heartbreaking grinding noise, as if it were not a hydraulic unit, but a box of rusty gears!) In reality, this means that if, when going downhill at a snail's pace, say, along a sandy slope, you blocks the wheels, they will raise rollers of soil in front of them, rest against them - and the car will stop.

If you lock the wheels during a snail's descent, they will raise rollers of soil in front of them.

But if at a speed above 5 km/h you hit the brakes, the tires will not dig into the ground and stop the car: the ABS will begin to release the brakes on the skidding wheels, and the Patriot will roll down. Remember this also on a descent, either do not accelerate above 5 km/h or turn off the ABS by removing the fuse.

Conclusion

So, the “Patriot + diesel” tandem made an overall pleasant impression - such an engine has long been requested under the hood of an Ulyanovsk SUV. Yes, the Italian engine loses in dynamics on asphalt, but due to the greater torque it takes its toll on off-road conditions. And the appetite is smaller: the rated fuel consumption of the diesel Patriot is 9.5 liters on the highway and 12.5 liters in the city versus 10.4 and 14.5 liters, respectively, for the gasoline version.

Although there are some nuances. Thus, the question of the readiness of UAZ services to service and supply diesel Patriots with spare parts remains open. Only a little more than a thousand of them have been produced so far, and at many service stations mechanics can look at such a car with wide eyes with the question frozen in them, “what is that rattling under the hood?” As a backup option, there are also Iveco and Fiat dealers who are very familiar with this diesel engine. But somewhere in the outback, where there is one and a half stalls and not a single service in the entire district, the Patriot buyer will most likely prefer a ZMZ engine that has been proven in service.

A pleasant impression of a well-conceived car is still spoiled by minor flaws

In addition, the pleasant impression of a well-conceived car is still spoiled by minor flaws in half with low build quality and a number of components. And our patient and handy buyer is still forced to constantly eliminate these factory “jambs” - on his own and at his own expense. I want to believe that one day we will live to see change.
Finally - about prices. Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi remembers that the UAZ Patriot TDi was promised by Putin with a 10 percent discount. But for us, mere mortals, such prime ministerial “preferences” do not yet shine.

Our patient and handy buyer is still forced to constantly eliminate factory “jambs” - on his own and at his own expense

Therefore, for a diesel Patriot in the simplest Classic configuration (metallic paint and unpainted bumpers with moldings, power steering, central locking, fabric interior, iron wheel rims) you will have to honestly count 580,000 rubles. For the Comfort version (alloy wheels, bumpers and moldings painted in body color, athermal glass, alarm system, CD radio, power accessories with heated mirrors, fog lights) they will ask for 620,000 rubles. In addition to the above, the top-end Limited package adds air conditioning, a winter package (heated front seats, a second heater and a high-capacity battery), trunk arches and folding benches in the trunk. And they will charge as much as 687,000 rubles for it! Expensive! But even at this price, Patriot still has no direct competitors. And this, unfortunately, greatly discourages the manufacturer...

- A large family car with the ability to drive along an unplowed road to the village at any time of the year.

Pros: Large compact car, awesome appearance.

Disadvantages: the heater valve does not close completely, the turn signal reset on the steering column switch does not work. The malfunctions are more serious: at 300 km it refused to start - the factory did not tighten the wire nut to the starter. Two bolts securing the body to the frame are not fully tightened.

Initially, the UAZ Patriot was produced as a car that absorbed all the greatness of the Hunter. A durable heavyweight with a professional approach. The ability to accommodate 9 passengers at once, folding seats and a huge trunk - this is the car that UAZ engineers conceived and created, fulfilling the dreams of those who like to travel in a full-fledged SUV.

Friends, who wants to buy a car and is wondering which one he wants? I bought a Diesel Patriot on the auto website.

RU. for 450,000 rubles. A little expensive but it will do. Moreover, I have dreamed about it for many years. I fell in love with the appearance and appearance of such a formidable fighting machine, it even reminded me of military equipment, which would be useful for our people. Our roads cannot be passed or passed.

I agreed to pick her up in Moscow. I got there by train from Taganrog. Arrived quite quickly, especially for a purchase that made me happy. I picked up the car in a hurry... because I was in a hurry to get back home and the result was a non-working air conditioner and an incomplete interior heater. I discovered all this already at home. I was shocked how they handed me such a breakdown and didn’t even lower the price for it. I agreed on warranty repairs, a week later they found out that the heater had been done, but even though the drive cable had to be shortened, the air conditioning could not be done - there were no gaskets for the freon tubes, which, as it turned out, were tightened at the factory and all the freon flew out. I’m thinking, how can I travel to the dacha in the summer heat now and take my son? In the future, they still made Conder. On the way, the clutch pedal began to fail, the clutch tube rubbed against the frame, so I think it needs to be repaired again. And if I’m not an experienced driver, then how will I drive with such a pedal? All this is still dangerous. Damn, I read that I should have crawled under the bottom myself, removed and laid all the tubes adjacent to the frame and body with cambric, but the free time and my experience in these matters is so small., in general, as always.. I was in a fog condition. I fixed all these breakdowns with my husband, since I myself did not know all the intricacies of the repair. And my husband still managed to fix everything and make sure that I could drive without breakdowns, at least for the first time. He’s not happy that we took this car, because it breaks down often. Well, he still supported my dream and I defended it to the end. When I was driving in the dark, it turned out that when I turned on the headlights, the instrument lighting went out - it turned out that the lighting control panel was covered. Khan, well, I think so, oh well, all this can be repaired. My dad already made this for me at home. He certainly understands more about electrics than I do. He spent the whole day climbing there and doing something, and everything worked out for him. I was happy.

But there are also advantages: - diesel is generally pleasing - not noisy. The consumption suited me quite well. - The interior is comfortable, high, good visibility and everything can be seen far away and everything is fine., folding seats, you can take a nap whenever you want. - modern front view, this is my favorite place in the car, pleasing to the eyes. looks menacing in my opinion; - for a dependent suspension it goes quite smoothly (I didn’t think I’d get this.) - with the right approach, everything - operating costs can be reduced to realistic limits.) Now, instead of 15 liters per 100 km, you can use only 9.

The insulation is installed between the plastic upholstery and the iron wall from the inside of the door. In this case, the drainage holes at the bottom are left open. For better sealing, check all seals.

In cold weather, the good news is that it starts quickly and well. There are situations when I urgently need to go and take my child to kindergarten in the morning, and she did not let me down in this regard.

Locking axle differentials ensures the best off-road performance of the vehicle. The disadvantage of this tuning is the deterioration of the car's handling when cornering. Having installed the differential locking mechanism, it is important not to abuse it, but to use it only on small difficult sections of the road.

    a diesel engine weighs significantly more than a gasoline engine;

    front springs have become more powerful; it is perfectly.

    operating at minimum idle speed can lead to oil getting into the system, and this is a big nuisance on the road.

oh and oh: - external door handles,clearly under a man's strong hand -not for me for sure.There is still one more minus. -there is a rubber-metal creaking somewhere in the back, and it is not clear whether it is the spring silent blocks or the rubber gaskets between the body and the frame.The car is suitable for people with average income. But it’s also suitable for those who know how to repair a car, this has its own problems, not for girls who don’t get along well with cars. It doesn’t rot that much, the body is good, you can drive it and drive through mud and puddles. Both the interior and the machine itself are easy to clean. I even drive through wet grass where any otherThe car loads, but mine doesn’t. The trunk is very good because it fits everything you need, including a stroller for a baby, umbrellas for relaxation, and a folding table. Everything fits. Going to the base to buy groceries is also an irreplaceable friend. They carried water to my grandmother on it. Dad carried construction materials. I recommend it as a cargoThe cart driver is so mini. E it’s possible and even pleasant to drive.” We even dressed her up for the wedding, wow, she looked super dressed up. There is a lot of space in it, and as a bride I am very pleased. They also had their friends attend a wedding and ask them to take it for rent. The seats in it don’t stick to your butt, they don’t even slide. although this is not a problem, you can sew any covers for it. I ordered velor covers for it. I think it will be cool.In general, I'm as happy with the purchase as an elephant. And now I take my family fishing, on vacation and to work. WITHthat was my dream, so what, cars are more for guys fits.

“But things are still there,” these are the words of the classic that come to mind when using a car. I'm not saying that the car is so bad, or that it can be called a bad word. No! I'm saying that just as our auto industry lagged behind the rest of the world, it still lags behind. I'm not talking about German or Japanese manufacturers, even the Chinese make better, more comfortable, more convenient, and, most importantly, cheaper. Some will ask why I took a patriot and not some Chinese. I’ll answer honestly, I’ve read a lot of reviews on the forums of Patriot owners, apparently they are blatantly flattering themselves and their cars. I heard talk there that the Chinese auto industry is disgusting and terrible, but ours is quite on par. But no! Our auto industry is not at the level, but in the f..pe. I haven’t seen such a disgusting build of a car since I owned a Nine back in 1998. Be that as it may, this car has been in my use for quite some time, and more definite conclusions can be drawn. If you don’t have nerves of steel and a lot of patience, then it’s better not to take it, it’s better to save up a little more and take a normal car, because this one cannot be classified as such.
