Impression: the appearance of the newcomer did not come as a surprise to me, because... However, in the spring there was little information on technology, but now all cards have been revealed.

The car has become more technologically advanced and progressive. There is more high-strength steel in its body, and the share of galvanized metal has been increased from 67.8 to 79.8%. For better sound insulation, the Ceed received additional sound-absorbing elements on the floor, wheel arches and engine shield - the cabin became noticeably quieter in all driving modes.

In Europe, all gasoline modifications are turbocharged. For Russia, fortunately, there are good old atmospherics. The base 1.4-liter unit was not brought for testing. Well, okay - anyway, its share in the total range of sales did not exceed ten percent.

But the fact that there was no 1.6-liter 128-horsepower modification on the test was puzzling - after all, it accounts for the lion's share of demand. The organizers brought to Malaga only the top versions, equipped with a new 1.4-liter 140-horsepower turbo engine for the model. It is paired with a 7-speed robotic gearbox with two clutches (aspirated engines have a traditional automatic transmission). There are no complaints about the engine: confident traction, pleasant sound. But the robot puzzled me with its obstinacy - sometimes it switches gears at random and with noticeable jerks.

Handling is good. The old Ceed also held the arc well, but it lacked reactive force on the steering wheel. Now the steering wheel is full of feedback, you always feel what is happening with the wheels.

The dynamics are good, but what impressed me most was the ride comfort. If the previous car (including us) had poor smoothness, now there are no complaints about Sid in this regard. Those road bumps that were occasionally encountered along the route were swallowed up by the suspension with a bang. We hope that it will show itself in all its glory on Russian roads.

Prospects: The new Kia Ceed is a success! A fundamentally new level of comfort and controllability, modern electronics, an impressive number of modifications and relatively affordable prices - it has a good chance of continuing to be the most popular model in the class.

The cars demonstrate excellent dynamics. The maximum speed of the car, depending on the type of engine, is 182–195 km/h. Acceleration to 100 km/h is carried out in 10.5–12.8 s.

Today we are reviewing one of the coolest, most interesting, running, and curious cars - the Kia Ceed SW 2017.

The main advantage of this foreign car is that it ideally combines size, functionality, price and cost of operation and maintenance.

Design

The design leaves only good impressions. The car looks expensive, the appearance is so whipped up, sporty, aggressive. For the design you can give it a solid A+.

Family car. The declared ground clearance of the car is 155 mm. If the foreign car is not loaded, it can easily drive onto the curb. There is a rubber lip at the bottom of the bumper. Among the minor shortcomings, one can note the coloring of the lower part of the bumper. It is painted in body color. These places could be made black, which would eliminate the need to tint the bottom.

There is a camera at the back, which gets dirty very often, so you will need to wipe it. The trunk opens to a greater height, there is no electric drive. The dimensions of the trunk are quite good, but the main feature is not the space, but the fact that there is a secret bottom there. There is a spare wheel underneath. The trunk is comfortable, there are many niches and organizers, this once again confirms that the car is a family car. On the side there is space for some bottles and canisters. The rear seats recline.


Salon front

Review of Kia Sid SV 2017 from the front. The information content of the dashboard is excellent, it looks very interesting. The maximum configuration in this review. There are two light switches, a glass sunroof, the interior is bright, the roof is healthy, and can be closed with interesting curtains on both sides.

There are mirrors in the sun visors and you can turn on the lights. If you forget to turn it off, the light turns off automatically when you close the visor. There are no pull-out sections. There is a place for glasses or other small items. The light from the front is not duplicated by the light from the back. If you turn on all the lights forcibly, only the front light is on in the cabin, the rear light must be turned on separately.

Auto-dimming rearview mirror works perfectly. The range of adjustments for the steering wheel and seats is huge.

Between the seats are:

  • a small electric handbrake that, when pressed, brakes all four wheels, but you cannot use it while driving or turning;
  • two cup holders, the bottoms of which can be removed.
  • the armrest is of medium size: it’s good that it moves, the bad thing is that there is no fixation, you won’t be able to open it in the extended position, you have to push it in and then you can open it.

The doors have four power windows with automatic up/down, upholstered with multi-component leather plus plastic. There are no mirror adjustments; they are located behind the steering wheel on the panel.


Dashboard

The ergonomics of the dashboard is at a high level. The display in this configuration is large, touch-sensitive, interesting and durable, it works well, but there is a small drawback - if you turn off the sound in the radio, it automatically turns on when you turn it on.

The traction control system and the climate system work great. The “temp” button changes degrees to Fahrenheit. Kilometers into miles are duplicated on the dashboard, which is good for both Russians and foreigners. There are two cigarette lighters and an AUX connector, a button to turn on the parking sensor, and turn off the parking sensors.

Winter options include:

  • heated washer nozzles,
  • mirrors,
  • rear window,
  • wiper parking zones.

Three-mode heating of the front seats, it works great, everything warms up normally. No heated windshield.

A very useful feature is the electric fan heater. When the car is cold, when you turn on the heater, heated seats and steering wheel, it immediately starts blowing hot air. Wait until it warms up in comfort and warmth.

The gearbox is a robot. In terms of rate of fire: from the moment you press the gas pedal to the floor until the moment the foreign car takes off, about 1-2 seconds pass, this is a very long time, not very good, but the dynamics are simply excellent, according to the passport 10.5 seconds. In city traffic, when you press the gas pedal from 60 km/h to 80 km/h, it instantly picks up speed, that is, the robot does its job. In terms of efficiency, everything is also good, consumption is 9.2 liters, in the city 8.5 liters, on the highway - 5.5 liters, if you drive within 90 km/h. You can fill it with 92 gasoline.

No Auto Hold button, no ashtray.

When driving the Kia Sid SV 2017, you don’t feel lacking in anything. Eco mode, car parking, blind spot monitoring sensors work very correctly. The obvious advantage of the ergonomics is that you don’t rest your knees anywhere; this is very rare for a golf-class car.

The glove compartment opens by pressing a button and does not have a separate key. Its size is small, but it contains an expensive handbag as a gift, instructions in different languages.


Rear salon

There is quite enough space in the back row; there is a small margin to the front seats. There are power window control buttons on the doors. No heated rear seats.

About comfort: there is an armrest, two deep cup holders, the bottom of which cannot be removed, handles, light for each individual. A very small tunnel, a third person can sit down. There is an air deflector, you can open or close them. Due to the panoramic roof, the ceiling is slightly lower, so a tall person can rest his head. Overall the fit is okay, but not super comfortable.

Thanks to the traction control system, the car slowly but surely moves forward in loose wet snow and does not dig in.


Marketing Benefits

This is a modern car with excellent sound insulation, better than in previous models, the car has become quieter and more comfortable. Restyling was beneficial. Sound insulation is on par with Optima, better than in Cerato. There is not enough insulation at the wheel arches.

Kia Sid has four engines:

  • 1.4 l, 100 hp,
  • 1.6 l, 130 hp,
  • 1.6 l, 135 hp,
  • 204 hp

You can set a speed limit (for example, when driving through a populated area), so as not to forget and not break the rules, set to 80 km/h: up to 80 the car will accelerate, after 80 acceleration will stop. If you need to abruptly turn off this limit, press the gas to the floor and the car starts moving further.

This car's competitors are Hyundai i30 and Volkswagen Golf. The advantage is a large number of options for less money compared to competitors. The car is very well assembled, originally created for the European market, five stars for safety according to Euro NCAP, equipped with all airbags.


Prices

Prices start from 816,000 rubles. For this money, the buyer buys a car with a 1.4 liter, 100 hp engine, a 6-speed manual transmission, the base includes a hydraulic booster, power windows, electric mirrors, in general, there is a minimum set. The maximum “Premium” configuration costs RUB 1,269,000. The warranty is like any Kia - 5 years for 150 thousand km.

Technical part

Multi-link suspension. The foreign car handles the road impeccably. You can customize the steering stiffness: there is a Comfort and Sport mode. The suspension features anti-roll bars at the front and rear. The suspension absorbs bumps very well, the ride is very elastic.

The controllability and stability of the car is 5 plus, at a speed of 80 km/h the car enters a sharp turn with passes and uneven roads as if glued to it.

There is a windshield anti-fog system that works automatically. The Kia Ceed accelerates calmly and quickly to 100 km/h. The sound of the engine is not particularly disturbing, but is present in the cabin. Visibility is 4. The rear view and side mirrors are too small. What makes up for their size is that they have blind spot indicators. The view ahead is excellent.

Results

A novice driver can take such a car with confidence; he will not experience any discomfort while driving it. On a ten-point scale, the car is 9 points. I liked the iron horse, I recommend it for purchase, if this format suits you, feel free to buy it.

It was no coincidence that I was brought together by the corporate department of Stream-Auto LLC, an official KIA dealer. Ask why they are still there? It’s simple - the best corporate department in Russia in 2013 and 2014 and also one of the contenders this year.

The conversation grew into a week-long test drive of a Kia Ceed, an interesting station wagon, and, moreover, in the maximum configuration for our market.

There is only one engine - 1.6 liters with 129 horsepower, gasoline only, with an automatic transmission.

The acquaintance began at a gas station and this is what I saw. Nice numbers, informative dashboard. There is nothing superfluous - this is a big plus. The backlight is of a pleasant shade, it does not strain or hurt the eyes and does not distract from control, which is very important.

Another pleasant surprise this morning. When you approach the car, the backlight turns on, visibility from the bulbs is sufficient. Keyless access is convenient and after the first use it already seems irreplaceable; you don’t want to think about the key, how to open and start the car mechanically the old fashioned way. It’s great when options from the older segment begin to be actively used in the golf class.

Recently, the Koreans have made a big and confident step. The car is pleasant to look at, beautiful lines, optimal proportions and interesting solutions. Sid station wagon is definitely attractive. Although because of beauty you have to make sacrifices. The windshield continues the line of the hood; surprisingly, there is enough space in the front and you don’t have to rest your head on the roof. But in the rain, instantly all the dirt from the road begins to fly on the glass, this became noticeable immediately, the wipers of course coped with it, but they worked in accelerated mode.

Another interesting option is the panoramic roof. My son was delighted! So much natural light in the cabin is a good thing.

The glass area is decent.

It starts almost immediately behind the sun visors. Operates in ventilation and opening mode. When I saw the interior rearview mirror, I remembered an interesting feature. Even though the mirrors are anti-glare, the most effective way to prevent glare from cars behind you turns out to be, you know what? Who knows, if you haven’t ridden Sid)))) The middle headrest just needs to be raised 15 cm from the seat and voila, no one is blinded.

Let's start inspecting the car from the most important place - the driver's seat.

The seats are comfortable, they fit tightly, there is a lumbar bolster, it’s strange that with such a rich set of options, the seats are still not fully electrified. I think turning knobs is already quite an anachronism. Surprisingly, there is nowhere to put your elbows, the armrest is too far and small, and there is no room on the door.

I didn’t like the steering wheel - it was very thin and it was not clear for what purpose the steering column switches were installed for the automatic transmission. This is not a sports car and there is not even a hint of excitement. You could definitely save a couple of pennies. Rubber carpets are an absolute evil, your feet slip. Frankly, it’s a very unpleasant feeling when you miss the brake pedal.

The steering wheel is overloaded with an abundance of buttons. You can’t scroll through the menu while moving, it’s all for safety. The heated steering wheel is hidden, it’s not very convenient to look for it while driving, you can only feel it by touch. There are plenty of pockets for small things, so your phone and keys won’t fly around the cabin.

At first there was a feeling that the gas pedal was too heavy, but then apparently it got pumped up))) The front pillars are of course a bit wide, blocking the view very much.

The pleasant screen of the media system makes the interior a little more comfortable, but more comfortable! Although, of course, the maps do not look as we would like, and in Moscow it is dangerous to drive without a service that shows congestion and traffic jams on the city streets.

I can easily sit behind myself in the back; of course you can’t cross your legs, but there’s enough space. Boarding/disembarking is not very comfortable.

The child seat connects to Isofix, the safest and most effective solution. By pushing the front seat all the way, you get complete freedom for the child. But putting a child in a seat is inconvenient, the car is too low, although it has quite a decent ground clearance of 15 cm. A couple of times I almost hit my forehead on the body when I tried to cope with the seat belts of the child seat!

I was surprised by the trunk with a cargo storage system. Convenient and simple. If you fold down the seats, unfortunately we won’t see a flat floor.

And then more, the storage system for small items is beyond praise! Every little thing will be in its place, the perfect trunk! I haven’t seen this for a long time; even more expensive cars cannot boast of such luggage ergonomics. This was surprising.

The back looks harmonious. As a lover of beauty, I couldn’t find anything to complain about. Factory tinting covers the rear hemisphere from prying eyes. The package includes a rear view camera and parking sensors. The camera displays a clear image on the screen of the media system if it is dry outside; unfortunately, it is in no way protected from weather troubles. Parking sensors display images of approaching objects on the dashboard screen.

17 wheels of an interesting design in a two-color design with 225/45 tires.

Nice optics, near xenon, high halogen. They illuminate the road quite well. For some reason, the parking sensors are not painted exactly the same color as the body. I almost forgot, there is even automatic parallel parking.

I used the car for a functional purpose, that is, as a family car. There is enough space in the cabin, the trunk is ideal.

From this perspective, some kind of aggression or despondency even appears, I still don’t fully understand)))

After 700 km, for some reason the consumption did not change, I even decided that there was a picture with the average consumption embedded there)))) Having reset the consumption, I saw a more realistic result.

Another button threw me into a stupor. Its presence in the car is not at all clear to me. When the whole world is trying to simplify some things to a minimum, Kia went their own way, and on a car with a dead 1.6 liter engine, they installed a button with 3 steering modes))))) Why???

Maybe for those who can squeeze all the juice out of a family station wagon?)))) Although I doubt it, there is not much space for this on the third transport ring, and it’s not so easy to get onto the runway of Sheremetyevo Airport!

To sum it up a bit!

What can you say after 1200 km? A convenient and comfortable family car, which is more suitable for the city. On the track, questions already appear, such as a weak engine, mediocre sound insulation and suspension operation that is not entirely clear to me. I don’t even want to remember about the hood stick, keyless entry and an option from the Mesozoic era to support an open hood. How could they even think of this before?)
