Superb. The new Skoda Superb is the third generation of the Czech liftback. Prices for Skoda Superb in Russia

The Czech automaker Skoda continues the program to expand and update its model range, which started in 2013. So the flagship Superb model has undergone a restyling procedure to meet modern requirements and the expectations of future owners.

Overall dimensions remained at the same level: body length is 4 meters 85.8 centimeters, width - 1 meter 86.7 centimeters, height - 1 meter 46.8 centimeters. Ground clearance is fourteen centimeters.

The greatest number of changes occurred in the appearance of the new Skoda Superb in 2016, while the technical “stuffing” and equipment did not undergo practically any changes. But let's talk about everything in order.

Metamorphoses in the exterior are visible to the naked eye. The novelty is made in full accordance with the corporate style of the company, where sharp edges prevail, not soft lines, as it was before.

Skoda Superb 2016 in a new body received a modernized radiator grille with an updated corporate emblem in the central part, improved headlights and front foglights, a different shape of the engine compartment cover and a refreshed bumper group.

For most versions of the car, front optics with bi-xenon filling and LED running lights are intended, which give it solidity and expressiveness.

Reflectors appeared in the rear bumper, performing the function of "cat's eyes".

The niche under the license plate became a little deeper and acquired a brighter backlight. It should also be noted the change in font on the plates indicating the brand and model name.

The liftback modification no longer boasts a Skoda-exclusive method of opening the trunk lid: if earlier it was possible to open both the door and the glass separately, now only the door with the glass. In a word, everything is like a station wagon, which, by the way, is able to take on board 633 liters of luggage with the back of the rear sofa unfolded and 1,865 liters with the back sofa folded. For the “liftback”, this figure is 625 and 1,760 liters, respectively.

Interior

In the cockpit of the new Skoda Superb 2016 MY also not without changes. The ergonomics of the cabin has improved, it is clear that a lot of work has been done in this direction. The salon has become noticeably more spacious, not only visually, but also in practice. Finishing materials have become even better, although, to be honest, they did not cause any complaints before.

The base Active seats will get fabric upholstery, while the more expensive Ambition and Elagance will get natural leather trim. The layout of the keys and switches on the steering wheel can be changed at the request of the client. True, this has its price.

Specifications

The power offer of the European version of the model will be represented by ten units - six petrol and four diesel engines, and the Russians will be offered to choose between five petrol and three diesel engines. Turbocharged "diesels" TDI are available in volumes of 1.6 and 2.0 liters in the performance range from 120 to 190 horsepower. Gasoline internal combustion engines, taken from the TSI and FSI lines, have a volume of 1.4, 1.8 and 2.0 liters, their power varies from 125 to 280 horsepower.

All engines are distinguished by good fuel efficiency and a loyal attitude towards the environment.

All other features of the 2016 Skoda Superb remain unchanged.

Price and start of sales in Russia

The cost of the updated flagship Skoda model in the Russian market will be from 1 million 500 thousand to 1 million 700 thousand rubles, which in terms of the US dollar is expressed in amounts from 26 thousand 500 to 30 thousand. The initial Active modification is standardly equipped with a four-spoke steering wheel, a trip computer, electric power windows for the front and rear doors, an automatic wiper activation system in rain and snow, air conditioning and electrically heated exterior mirrors.

More expensive trim levels include a three-spoke steering wheel, a power glass sunroof, dual-zone climate control, full power accessories, and much, much more.

In conclusion, we note that the Skoda Superb 2016 MY. in the new body has become a third more economical. So, for the GreenLine version, the average fuel consumption in city / highway mode is 3.6 liters per hundred kilometers. At a time when fuel costs are rising and income levels are falling, efficiency can make all the difference in making a model a commercial success. Time will tell how this will work out for the new Skoda Superb family.

Videos test drive

The new third generation of the Czech liftback Skoda Superb 2015-2016 model year is ready for serial production and, on the eve of the official premiere at the beginning of March 2015, was lit up at a closed presentation in the Czech capital Prague on February 17 this year. The new Skoda Superb 2015-2016 matured and increased in size (both outside and inside), while dropping an average of 75 kg, and all thanks to the use of the new MQB modular platform.

The novelty received a completely new interior, acquired new multimedia equipment and a host of modern security systems and electronic assistants, a line of five gasoline and three diesel engines with 30% lower fuel consumption than the engines installed under the hood of the previous one. The start of sales of the new 3rd generation Skoda Superb in Russia is planned for mid-summer 2015, according to preliminary information price of the new generation of the Czech liftback will remain at the level of the predecessor model.

Superb is one of the brightest and most successful models in the Skoda line, the first two modern generations of Skoda Superb sold in excess of 750,000 copies. But the model with that name was produced back in the period from 1934 to 1949 and was distinguished not only by a super stylish and organic body design, but also by a comfortable interior, as well as the presence of a powerful engine. The Czech manufacturer does not forget its history - the official video clip draws a parallel between the very first Skoda Superb of the first half of the 20th century and the modern third generation Skoda Superb.

We will try in detail, what is called grain by grain, to disassemble the component of the new third generation Superb and start with the new MQB modular platform developed by Volkswagen AG engineers (Skoda Auto has been under the control of the German concern for more than 20 years).
The new bogie made it possible to equip the new generation of Skoda Superb not only with a front suspension with MacPherson struts and an adaptive DCC chassis (the ability to select settings using the Driving Mode Select switch), but also an electronic stabilization system and an electronic cross-axle differential lock XDS +, an electric hand brake, an autopilot allowing you to automatically move in urban traffic jams, systems for monitoring objects in blind spots and crossing the marking line, an assistant when maneuvering in reverse, three-zone climate control, high-speed Internet LTE, automatic braking at low speeds, tire pressure sensors. Seven airbags, adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition and signs of driver fatigue, panoramic roof with electric sunroof, four options for multimedia systems.

In a word, the new Skoda Superb is becoming a very formidable competitor for, and even related. It's in terms of equipment. And when it comes to the external overall dimensions of the body and the internal dimensions of the cabin, in addition to the volume of the luggage compartment, then ... competitors have even more difficult times.

As we said at the very beginning of the review, the new Superb has become larger outside and inside. Compared to the previous generation, the novelty has added only 28 mm to the total body length, but at the same time, the distance between the axles has increased by as much as 80 mm. The secret is that the front overhang has become shorter by 61 mm. The overall height of the body during the change of generations increased by 6 mm, and the width by 47 mm, the track of the front and rear wheels also became wider by 39 mm and 54 mm, respectively.

  • As a result, the external dimensions of the body of the third generation of the Skoda Superb 2015-2016 liftback are 4861 mm long, 1864 mm wide, 1468 mm high with a 2841 mm wheelbase, 140 mm ground clearance (clearance).

A team led by Skoda Auto chief designer Josef Kaban worked on the body design, and indeed the interior design. The appearance of the new Super B is based on the style of the Vision C show car. But, of course, the production car does not look as extravagant as the concept. Visually, the new generation of Skoda Superb has become very similar to the new Passat, it is even difficult to say which of the cars attracts more attention. The Czech liftback is harmonious, strict and solid. The body is streaked with expressive ribs and stylish stampings, the front part of the body is decorated with modern headlights with original touches and cilia of LED running lights (halogen headlights are filled with bi-xenon as an option).
The body profile is emphatically strict with expressive stampings that widen the wheel arches, large straight doors, a perfectly flat roof line, and a large but not massive stern.
The rear part of the body exposes trendy LED-filled ceiling lights, a powerful bumper body and a neat trunk lid.
Interestingly, the new Superb has a regular trunk lid like a hatchback, and not a double one, like the previous generation of the model, which allows you to pretend to be either a sedan or a liftback.

So smoothly we move on to the interior and interior of the new generation Skoda Superb. And since we are talking about the luggage compartment, we will announce its cargo volume - 625 liters with the standard position of the rear seats. This is 30 liters more than its predecessor. The luggage compartment lid of the new Skoda Superb is equipped with an electric drive and contactless opening (a wave of the foot under the bumper), both of which are optional. Well, as standard, an LED portable flashlight, belts and nets for securing cargo are promised ... umbrellas in the secret compartments of the front side doors and a tablet holder in the rear of the cabin.
The interior design seems to echo the exterior of the new body - rigor, solidity and conciseness. High-quality finishing materials, accurate assembly and detailing of interior elements, verified ergonomics, functionality and modern equipment, and most importantly, a huge supply of free space that allows five people with a height well over 190 cm to be accommodated in the cabin.
The salon of the second generation Superb was striking in its size, and the successor has even larger internal dimensions. On the first row, as much as 31 mm of space was added in the shoulders, on the second row a little less than 26 mm, due to the seats installed below, the distance from the pillows to the ceiling increased by 25 mm to a fantastic 980 mm. Legroom in front has increased by 39 mm, but in the back - the second row of the Superb is simply dimensionless.

Specifications The Skoda Superb 2015-2016 liftback is based on the Volkswagen MQB modular platform with independent front and rear suspension, electric power steering, front and rear disc brakes with a full range of security systems. front-wheel drive and it is possible to order in the future an all-wheel drive version with a 5th generation Haldex clutch.
For the new generation of Skoda Superb 2015-2016, five TSI gasoline engines (EA 211 and EA 888) and three TDI diesel engines (EA 288 series) are offered. All engines comply with Euro 6 CO2 emission standards and are equipped as standard with start-stop and brake energy recovery systems to achieve low fuel consumption.
Gasoline engines for the new Skoda Superb:

  • 1.4 TSI (125 hp), 1.4 TSI (150 hp), 1.8 TSI (180 hp), 2.0 TSI (220 hp) and 2.0 TSI (280 hp), providing dynamic acceleration to the first 100 km/h in just 5.8 seconds and top speed of 250 mph.

Diesel engines for Skoda Superb 3rd generation:

  • 1.6 TDI (120 hp) with a fuel consumption of 3.7 liters per 100 kilometers in mixed mode, 2.0 TDI (150 hp) and 2.0 TDI (190 hp) content with just 4.1 liters of diesel fuel.

As gearboxes 6 manual transmissions, robotic gearboxes with two clutch discs 6 DSG and 7 DSG.

The Czech company Skoda was founded in 1896 and began its activity with the production of bicycles. But after a few years, the company's management began to prepare for the release of its first car. A significant event occurred in 1905, when the first model was released, which received a difficult, for our perception, name Voituretto A.

Now it is a powerful enterprise, producing more than 900 thousand cars a year and regularly increasing its profits. The main event of the Czech automaker last year was the launch of the updated Skoda Superb. The premiere of the car was the Geneva Motor Show in March 2015. This is the third generation of this model, which is successfully sold in the market of many countries.

Options to choose from

Skoda Superb 2016 is a luxury car. On sale there are models with gasoline turbo engines of various capacities. There are options with front and all-wheel drive. Power and fuel consumption depends on the engine size:

  • 1.4 TSI - 150 hp With. at a consumption of 4.9 l / 100 km and a top speed of 220 km / h.
  • 1.8 TSI - 180 hp With. at a consumption of 5.8 l / 100 km and a top speed of 232 km / h.
  • 2.0 TSI - 220 hp With. at a consumption of 6.1 l / 100 km and a top speed of 243 km / h.
  • 2.0 TSI 4 * 4 - 280 liters. With. at a consumption of 7.1 l / 100 km and a top speed of 250 km/h.
  • 2.0 TDI - 190 HP With. at a consumption of 4.5 l / 100 km and a maximum speed of 234 km / h.

The dimensions of the hatchback (liftback) Skoda SuperB are 4861 * 1864 * 1468, and its weight is 1425-1615 kg. Trunk volume increased to 625 liters. If you remove the rear seats, then the volume of the luggage compartment will be 1760 liters. In general, the size of the luggage compartment is impressive.

The gearbox is presented in three versions - 6-speed manual, 6-speed DSG robot, 7-speed DSG robot. Moreover, the smallest engine works with only mechanics, the rest are combined with manual gearboxes and robots. Cars equipped with powerful engines are equipped with all-wheel drive.

Hatchback Features

It is worth noting that the car is available in an all-wheel drive version. The all-wheel drive modification is equipped with a fifth-generation Haldex clutch with the ability to simulate differential blocking.

All previous Skoda SuperB hatchback models were produced with a double trunk. But Superb 2016 abandoned this design, moving to a more familiar type of trunk, typical for hatchbacks (and liftbacks) of other brands.

Also, in the production of this model, an adaptive chassis with a DMS switch was used for the first time.

In the presence of control of blind spots when moving backwards, as well as a three-zone climate control. The manufacturers tried to make the model as close as possible to the executive class and, one might say, they succeeded.

The manufacturer positions SuperB 2016 as a D-class car, implicitly hoping, with the release of a new model, for the beginning of an era of new popularity for this model.

What do car enthusiasts say?

Each car has pros and cons, to get a real picture, it is best to focus on the reviews of car owners. After analyzing them, we came to the conclusion that the main disadvantages of the Skoda SuperB:

  • Low sound insulation;
  • High oil consumption;
  • Prolonged heating;
  • Low permeability;
  • Rigid suspension;

The advantages are also collected from the reviews of the Skoda Superb owners, and this is what we got:

  • Quality interior, including trim;
  • Good build;
  • Volumetric trunk;
  • Good review;
  • Excellent work of security systems;

Control and improved suspension

A DCC system is available for the car, which controls the dynamics of the car, a driving mode switch is available - DMS.

The following systems are also available for Skoda Superb 2016:

  • Front Assist - will control the distance in front;
  • ESC - maintains directional stability;
  • Emergency braking function;
  • Tire pressure monitoring electronics;

There is nothing bad to say about the suspension, except that for many it will seem harsh. A MacPherson strut suspension is installed at the front, and multi-link at the rear, with steel levers. In general, the suspension has become more reliable than in previous modifications of the car due to the exclusion of aluminum parts.

Comfortable salon

The interior of the car is particularly comfortable. Increased legroom for rear passengers and trunk. There was an additional air conditioning system for rear passengers, and all electronics in the cabin can now be controlled using a mobile phone with a pre-installed special application.

The price for Skoda SuperB 2016 is set depending on the configuration and ranges from 21 to 29 thousand USD.

conclusions

The third-generation Skoda Superb isn't without flaws, but in its D-class car segment, it's a great option. Executive class at a reasonable price.

Skoda Superb is a front- or all-wheel drive five-door business class liftback (but some classify it as a representative of the "D-segment") and, in combination, the flagship of the Czech automaker's model range, which combines respectable design, a high level of comfort and practicality and modern technical component... The main target audience of the car are successful men who hold leadership positions and love to spend time with their families, but it is also suitable for the role of "business transport in the corporate park"...

In the first days of March 2015, at the international exhibition of the automotive industry in Geneva, the Czech company Skoda held the world premiere of its flagship model - the next, third generation Superb five-door liftback. However, a few weeks before this event, a preview of the novelty was organized in Prague for a relatively small circle of people, which included more than 500 journalists from all over the world and several hundred VIP guests.

The third "Superb" turned out to be completely different from its predecessor, and all because of the MQB platform, which made it possible to revise the design, dimensions, and engine range.

Four years after the debut, the liftback survived a planned update, appearing in all its glory before the general public on May 23, 2019 at a special event in Bratislava. Restyling did not bring serious visual changes to the car (new bumpers, a wider grille, full LED optics and a new inscription with the brand name), and the interior got only new decor and changed lighting, but at the same time it was slightly “shaken up” by the power range and added new options.

Exterior

The appearance of the "third" Skoda Superb is made in a balanced and expressive design, drawing its beginnings from the VisionC concept, which was introduced in 2014. The front of the Czech liftback flaunts a powerful grille, girded with faceted optics with decorative elements in the spirit of Bohemian crystal, and a sculpted bumper with aerodynamic outlines.

The graceful silhouette of the Skoda Superba hides its true dimensions, adding lightness and dynamism to the almost five-meter car. Expressive vyshtampovki, embossed wheel arches and sloping roof contours, smoothly flowing through a powerful rack into a tightened stern, which is crowned with wide lights with LED filling and a developed bumper, give solidity to the appearance.

In terms of overall dimensions, the 3rd generation Superb can be attributed to the business class, however, the developers classify the liftback as an “overgrowth” of the medium-sized community: 4869 mm long, 1864 mm wide and 1484 mm high.
The wheelbase of the car occupies 2841 mm of the total length, and the amount of ground clearance depends on the type of drive: for front-wheel drive versions - 164 mm, for all-wheel drive versions - 6 mm more modest.

Interior

Like other Skodas, inside the Superb looks unpretentious, but strict and solid. The driver is directly in charge of a stylish multifunction steering wheel with a 3-spoke design and concise instrumentation with a pair of large dials and a color display of a trip computer. In the "top" cars, a virtual instrument cluster is used (which, like other significant interior changes for the 2020 model year, is reflected in the photo below).

The massive front panel in the center smoothly “flows” into a modern and ergonomic console with an 8- or 9.2-inch screen of a multimedia complex with control buttons and “twists” at the edges (on the available versions, a “two-din” radio tape recorder with a monochrome “stripe” is used). At the bottom of the dashboard, the air conditioning unit (regular air conditioner or zone system) is “registered”, and the auxiliary function keys are based on a wide tunnel between the seats on three sides of the gearshift lever.

Cabin decoration of the third generation Skoda Superb is tailored from high-quality finishing materials - soft and visually pleasing plastics (although hard elements can also be found in some places), solid fabric or genuine leather. Well, the flagship status of the model is supported by a verified assembly.

At the disposal of the front riders of the Superba are comfortable seats with a dense profile and heating, and optionally with electrical adjustments, ventilation and memory function. The rear sofa provides comfortable seating for passengers of all sizes and a record-breaking supply of legroom in the class. However, its molding and high floor tunnel unobtrusively hint that the third one will be superfluous.

The luggage compartment of the "third Superb" resembles the hold of a dry cargo ship with its volume - 625 liters in the standard configuration, with the possibility of increasing up to 1760 liters. The back of the "gallery" is folded in several unequal parts, but an absolutely flat platform is not obtained.

A niche under the raised floor is occupied by a reduced “reserve” and a set of tools.

Specifications

In the Russian market, a line of four power units is announced for the third-generation restyled liftback - these are in-line TSI fours with turbocharging, a direct injection system, a 16-valve DOHC timing belt and intake and exhaust phase shifters:

  • The basic versions are "armed" with a 1.4-liter engine that generates 150 horsepower at 5000-6000 rpm and 250 Nm of torque at 1500-3500 rpm.
  • More productive versions rely on a 2.0-liter engine, available in three boost options:
    • 190 HP at 4200-6000 rpm and 320 Nm of peak thrust at 1450-4200 rpm;
    • 220 HP at 4500-6200 rpm and 350 Nm of torque potential at 1500-4000 rpm;
    • 280 HP at 5600-6500 rpm and 350 Nm of torque at 1700-5600 rpm.

By default, the 150-horsepower car is equipped with a 6-speed "mechanics" and a front-wheel drive transmission, and as an option - a 7-speed DSG "robot" with two clutches, which is docked with a 190-horsepower unit in the "base". The remaining two engines work hand in hand with a 6-speed DSG robotic gearbox, but the 220-horsepower one is only with the drive wheels of the front axle, and the 280-horsepower one is exclusively with the all-wheel drive system, equipped with a fifth incarnation Haldex multi-plate clutch with XDS + technology that simulates differential locks through electronics.

From standstill to 100 km / h, the five-door liftback “shoots” after 6.0-8.9 seconds, accelerates to a maximum of 219-250 km / h, and in the combined mode “drinks” from 6.0 to 7.6 liters of fuel for every “hundred” run, depending on modifications.

Design features

The 3rd generation model is based on the MQB modular architecture, or to be more precise, on the MQB-B. In front of the car, independent MacPherson struts with lower triangular levers located transversely are mounted, and at the rear there is a “multi-link” with trailing and transverse levers. But if by default the five-door is equipped with passive shock absorbers, then in the "top" versions - adaptive, electronically controlled.

The rack and pinion steering mechanism is supplemented with an electromechanical control amplifier with adjustable force, and the brake system is endowed with disc devices on all wheels (on the front - with ventilation). All modifications of the liftback "flaunt" ABS with EBD and electronic stability control.

Options and prices

In the fall of 2019, the restyled Skoda Superb of the third incarnation is offered on the Russian market only with a 190-horsepower engine (versions with other engines will appear in our country in 2020) in three trim levels to choose from - Ambition, Style and Laurin & Klement.

  • For a car in the basic configuration, they ask at least 2,097,000 rubles, and the list of its equipment includes: six airbags, ABS, ESP, 16-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, heated front seats, a media center with an 8-inch screen, light and rain sensors, rear parking sensors, collision warning system, LED headlights and lights, ERA-GLONASS technology, eight-speaker audio system and other equipment.
  • For the execution of Style, you will have to pay from 2,353,000 rubles, and its signs are: a driver's knee airbag, front parking sensors, an electric driver's seat, heated rear seats, cruise control, 17-inch wheels, an electric fifth door, matrix headlights and some others "chips".
  • You can’t buy a “top-end” modification for less than 2,680,000 rubles, but it can additionally boast: leather trim, electric front seats, adaptive shock absorbers, side airbags on the second row, blind spot monitoring, lane retention system and premium Canton “music” with 11 columns.

On February 17, 2016, at a special event in Prague, a presentation of the Skoda Superb 2016-2017 liftback in a new body was held (photo and price in the article). The world premiere of new items took place in early March at the Geneva Motor Show. Externally, the new Skoda Superb 2016-2017 has noticeably changed - the design of the model is made in the current corporate style of the manufacturer. Some of the design elements, as promised, migrated to the production car from the VisionC Concept prototype.

Photo Skoda Superb 2016-2017

The popularity of Superb in the Skoda line has always remained quite high. What are only 750,000 sold copies of the two previous generations. However, the history of the Skoda Superb begins much earlier - back in 1934. It was then that the first car was released, which became the prototype of the modern Superb as a luxury car for wealthy people. Even at that time, the car looked stylish and technologically advanced, standing out with a powerful engine and comfortable interior. That is why the manufacturer decided to draw a parallel and connect these two distant, but so close cars. When creating the official presentation video, the idea of continuity of generations was used.

Appearance Skoda Superb 2016-2017

Today, the new generation of Skoda Superb 2016-2017 has acquired a modern look and offers more space in the cabin and the use of advanced automotive technology. The presence of dynamic lines of the car body, the sharp edges of the headlights and taillights, respectively, the presence of a short front overhang - all this creates an excellent mood. The car flaunts LED taillights and stylish head optics. But the main thing is that despite the increased overall dimensions, the new Skoda Superb 2016-2017 managed to get rid of the “heavy” stern inherent in the car of the previous generation.
