Road sign move without stopping. Sign “Driving without stopping is prohibited” according to traffic rules. It could be

Good afternoon, dear reader.

Let's consider where you need to stop when there is a prohibitory signal from a traffic light or a traffic controller. To do this, let's turn to paragraphs 6.13 and 13.7 of the traffic rules:

6.13. When there is a prohibitory signal from a traffic light (except a reversible one) or a traffic controller, drivers must stop before the stop line(sign 6.16), and in its absence:

  • at an intersection - in front of the roadway being crossed (taking into account clause 13.7 of the Rules), without interfering with pedestrians;
  • before a railway crossing - in accordance with clause 15.4 of the Rules;
  • in other places - in front of the traffic light or a traffic controller, without interfering with vehicles and pedestrians whose movement is permitted.

13.7. A driver who enters an intersection when the traffic light signal permits must drive in the intended direction regardless of the traffic light signal at the exit from the intersection. However, if at the intersection in front of the traffic lights located on the driver’s route there are stop lines (signs 6.16), the driver must follow the signals of each traffic light.

In order to better understand how to stop correctly at an intersection, I suggest considering several schemes.

If there is a stop line at the intersection, you need to stop right in front of it:

In the above figure, the stop line is indicated by markings. However, there is a second way to designate it - sign 6.16:

6.16 "Stop line". The place where vehicles stop when there is a prohibiting traffic light signal (traffic controller).

If installed at an intersection just a sign 6.16, then you should stop in front of him.

If at the intersection there is both a sign and a road marking, then you need to stop at the sign. This is related to.

2. Signalized intersection without stop line

If there is no stop line, choosing a place to stop is a little more difficult. In this case, it should be taken into account that there are 2 possible options:

  1. There are no pedestrians walking through the intersection.
  2. Pedestrians are walking along the intersection.

If at a crossroads no pedestrians and a designated pedestrian crossing, you must stop at the traffic light (without entering the intersection):

If pedestrians are walking along an intersection, they must stop in front of the pedestrian crossing. If it is not marked, then you should stop in front of the part of the roadway along which pedestrians are walking.

4.3. Pedestrians must cross the road at pedestrian crossings, including underground and overground ones, and in their absence - at intersections along sidewalks or curbs.

However, in any case, you should not drive beyond the traffic light:

Stopping at an intersection with a STOP sign

Let's consider the second situation, which requires a mandatory stop at an intersection. We are talking about the presence of sign 2.5 “movement without stopping is prohibited” on.

2.5 "Driving without stopping is prohibited." Driving without stopping is prohibited before the stop line, and if it’s not there - before the edge of the intersecting roadway. The driver must give way to vehicles moving along the intersection, and if there is a sign 8.13 - along the main road.

Sign 2.5 can be installed in front of a railway crossing or quarantine post. In these cases, the driver must stop in front of the stop line, and if there is no stop line, in front of the sign.

If at an unregulated unequal intersection there is a sign 2.5 “Moving without stopping is prohibited” and there is a stop line, then you must stop in front of it:

If there is no stop line at the intersection, then you must stop the car before crossing the roadways:

I would like to note that the rules require stopping before the intersection only in the two cases discussed above:

  1. Controlled intersection. Movement is prohibited by a traffic light or traffic controller.
  2. An unregulated unequal intersection with a sign 2.5 “Driving without stopping is prohibited.”

In all other cases, stopping is not necessary.

Fine for wrong choice of stopping place before an intersection

The fine for incorrectly choosing a stopping place at a controlled intersection is provided for in parts 1 and 2 of Article 12.12 of the Code of Administrative Offenses:

1. Driving through a prohibiting traffic light signal or a prohibiting gesture of a traffic controller, with the exception of the cases provided for in Part 1 of Article 12.10 of this Code and Part 2 of this Article -

one thousand rubles.

2. Failure to comply with the requirement of the Traffic Rules to stop in front of a stop line indicated by road signs or markings of the roadway, when there is a prohibitory traffic light signal or a prohibitory gesture from a traffic controller -

entails the imposition of an administrative fine in the amount eight hundred rubles.

If a stop line is marked in front of the intersection or a corresponding sign is installed, then crossing this line will entail a fine of 800 rubles.

If there is no stop line, then the violation will be classified as entering the intersection with a prohibiting traffic light signal. The fine for the first violation will be 1,000 rubles. For a more serious fine - 5,000 rubles or deprivation of rights for 4-6 months.

The fine for stopping incorrectly at an uncontrolled intersection is:

Article 12.16. Failure to comply with the requirements prescribed by road signs or road markings

1. Failure to comply with the requirements prescribed by road signs or markings of the roadway, with the exception of cases provided for in parts 2 – 7 of this article and other articles of this chapter, -

entails a warning or the imposition of an administrative fine in the amount five hundred rubles.

Thus, for stopping incorrectly before an intersection, you can receive either a warning or a fine of 500 rubles.

Well, in the next article we will talk about what a driver should do if at an intersection.

Good luck on the roads!

Situation: at a controlled intersection, on one side of the road there is a zebra crossing, immediately after the traffic light, but before the intersection of the roadways there were approximately 4 meters from the traffic light and 1 from the edge of the zebra crossing. There were two more standing in front of my car. At the green signal, everyone moved to the intersection, but the first car stopped, allowing the oncoming traffic to pass, so it turned out that I was forced to stop at the zebra crossing, but not reaching 1 meter before the intersection. Question: Should I complete the maneuver, since I have already passed the traffic light line, and stopping at the zebra crossing is interfering with pedestrians, or am I obligated to stay in place because having driven forward, half the car will cross the line of the intersection of roads and interfere with traffic?

I didn’t really understand the situation described by Dmitry, but in my opinion, it’s from the same opera.

Maxim, please tell me where to stop at such an intersection? The instructor said that, despite the traffic rules, in Omsk many traffic lights require stopping in front of it. He told me to stop at the traffic lights during the exam. For example, on this street everyone stops at a traffic light:

There are fences on the left and right, there is no STOP line on the roadway, there is no STOP line sign, therefore, according to clause 6.13 of the traffic rules:

6.13. When there is a prohibitory signal from a traffic light (except a reversing one) or a traffic controller, drivers must stop in front of the stop line (sign 6.16 “Stop”), and in its absence:

At an intersection - in front of the roadway being crossed (taking into account clause 13.7 of the Rules), without interfering with pedestrians;

Dear Maxim,

While studying your article, I became somewhat confused about point 2, where you consider stopping at an intersection in the absence of a stop line. The figure shows only a traffic light and a pedestrian crossing. You write that if there are pedestrians, vehicle drivers must stop immediately before the pedestrian crossing. However, in the section of the traffic rules, which discusses stopping places, it is written that you must stop 5 m before the pedestrian crossing. Did I miss something in the rules about intersections???

“Stop” is a deliberate cessation of the movement of a vehicle for up to 5 minutes, as well as for longer if this is necessary for boarding or disembarking passengers or loading or unloading the vehicle.

12.4. Stopping is prohibited:

at pedestrian crossings and closer than 5 m in front of them;

at the intersection of roadways and closer than 5 m from the edge of the roadway being crossed, with the exception of the side opposite the side passage of three-way intersections (crossroads) that have a continuous marking line or dividing strip;

Rule 12.4 applies only to intentionally stopping the movement of a vehicle. Stopping in front of a pedestrian at an intersection is unintentional. So “5 meters” is not relevant in this case. As, for example, it is not relevant “at the intersection of roadways and closer than 5 m from the edge of the crossed roadway.” If stopping here is also prohibited, how can you get through the intersection?

And again, just doubts. I read your comment Comrade. Serg and Oleg at the sign “movement without stopping is prohibited” in front of the railway crossing. Serg asks whether he needs to stop if the white traffic light is on and allows passage. You answer that he should stop and then continue moving. But the stop sign is a priority sign. Doesn't a traffic light cancel out priority signs???

Here you are absolutely right. When the traffic light is working, you do not need to stop at the STOP sign. But... You can provide a link to the statement: “I read your comment comrade. Serg and Oleg at the sign “non-stop traffic is prohibited” in front of the railway crossing.”?

Hello, Maxim. Help me figure it out please. A two-lane road comes to an intersection. The markings on the left lane are straight to the left, on the right - straight and to the right. The arrow to the right lights up before the main section of the green signal. If I need to drive straight, but the cars behind me need to turn right, they honk and force me to let me pass, moving forward into the left lane. What is the right thing to do in this situation? After all, I’m crossing a solid road and then I have to go from the left lane, where the markings prohibit this.

Hello, Irina.

You are not required to let vehicles behind you pass.

The maneuver you described is a violation of the rules and in the event of an accident you will be at fault.

Good luck on the roads!

Hello, please comment.

Along the secondary road I approach the confluence with the main one (along the Budennovskoe highway to Minka from Peredelkino). The direction of travel is to Moscow. In fact, this is a T-shaped intersection without a traffic light on the Bud. Highway side. Before leaving for Minka there is a 2.5 STOP sign. The Minsk highway is stopped by traffic lights: the traffic light on the left is red, completely blocking traffic, including the right turn on Bud. Highway, the green light is on for pedestrians crossing Minka on my left. The traffic light on the right along Minka is red in the area and the green arrow is on for the exit to Bud. Highway. U-turns at intersections are prohibited.

I enter the intersection without stopping at sign 2.5, since the intersection is controlled and the light on the main road is red. I receive a fine of 500 rubles 12.16.1 - Failure to comply with the requirements of signs or markings, except in cases provided for in other articles of Chapter 12. Is the traffic police officer right?

Honestly, this is a tricky question. According to traffic rules:

13.3. An intersection where the traffic order is determined by traffic lights or traffic controller signals is considered regulated.

When there is a flashing yellow signal, non-functioning traffic lights or the absence of a traffic controller, the intersection is considered unregulated, and drivers are required to follow the rules for driving through uncontrolled intersections and the priority signs installed at the intersection.

In a good way, you are right: there is a traffic light at the intersection - the intersection is controlled, there are no indications that it should be in front of you. In reality, if you approach an intersection and there is no traffic light in front of you, then you drive through it as if it were unregulated. There are many such intersections in Russia.

Vasily-17

In Odintsovo, on the Mozhaiskoye Highway in the Dubrava area, when driving to Moscow, there is an intersection (the road joins on the left), in front of which there is no traffic light. But after the intersection there is a traffic light on the left side and above. According to the rules for placing traffic lights, these are kind of like DUPLICATE traffic lights. But in the absence of a BASIC traffic light, their legal status is unclear. I don’t understand at all what they refer to: do they regulate the intersection that is in front of them, or the pedestrian crossing that is BEHIND them...

Basil, write the name of the street adjacent to Mozhaiskoye Highway. Or attach a link to a Yandex panorama of the specified location.

And if the intersection is large and the flow speed is low, is it possible to stop after the zebra crossing, but before crossing the intersection?

Roland, if there is no stop line at the intersection, then you can stop even after crossing.

Good luck on the roads!

Alexander-266

Hello, I would really like to hear your opinion on the issue of stopping before an intersection. Nowadays cameras have appeared to record crossings of intersections running a red light; you just need to drive a little beyond the stop line and you will be fined for running a red light, but in essence this is an illegal stop before an intersection, and the fines for these violations are completely different!

You are not right! The fines will be different. The program is common for all of Russia. If you drove in but didn’t leave, then that’s one thing (Part 2, Article 12.12), if you drove through, then that’s another (Part 1, Article 12.12).

Alexander-266

Thanks for the detailed answer!

Good afternoon

We have a T-shaped intersection. In the forward direction there is a main road in both directions. On one side of the intersection, on the main road, there is a controlled pedestrian crossing. Two stop lines are drawn on both sides of the intersection. I am moving along the main road, I need to turn left, but I will not cross the pedestrian crossing, for me it is on the other side of the intersection. But I cross the stop line. Question: in this situation, do I need to stop at the stop line when the traffic light prohibits me? Accordingly, pedestrians have a green light.

Yuri, Hello.

Attach a diagram of this intersection indicating the locations of road signs and traffic lights.

Crossroads diagram.

I want to turn left in the blue car into the courtyards.

In the panorama, the markings are erased, but they are constantly painted on; the markings are also visible on satellite images.

What is the question itself?

Crossroads diagram.

I'm in a blue car I want to turn left into the courtyards.

Pedestrians have a green light, and I have a red light.

Pobeda Street/Rudneva Street
. Judging by the inscription, this is an intersection, and not a turn into the courtyards.

6.13. When there is a prohibitory signal from a traffic light (except a reversing one) or from a traffic controller, drivers must stop in front of the stop line (sign 6.16), and in its absence:

at an intersection - in front of the roadway being crossed (taking into account clause 13.7 of the Rules), without interfering with pedestrians;

Yuri, in this case, the figure shows an uncontrolled intersection of unequal roads and a controlled pedestrian crossing.

I have not found any reason in the rules why a driver turning left at an intersection would have to stop before the stop line. The traffic light regulates the order of movement through the crossing, but the driver does not go to this crossing.

To ensure safe traffic at intersections, sign number 2.5 “No stopping is prohibited” is installed at railway crossings. Methods of its installation are determined by GOST R 52289-2009. It tells you where the stop sign should be, where to stop. The appearance of the sign is determined by international convention: an octagon with the inscription STOP.

By law, inscriptions on this sign are permitted in the language of the country that uses it. In the Russian Federation you can find a sign with the inscription STOP, and in other countries - STOP. The color of the letters can be white, blue or black. The main background is not always red; yellow is also used, which indicates the temporary use of the sign.

History of the sign

W. F. Eno first spoke about the need to develop a sign in 1900. According to him, this sign was supposed to help cope with the ongoing chaos on the roads. As a result, the first mandatory sign was installed in Detroit fifteen years after Hainault's proposal. Not everyone liked the idea of the sign.

In 1923, the sign acquired its octagonal appearance. It was at this time that the decision was made to use uniform formats of road signs. So “Stop” began to differ from other designations, attracting drivers.

Initially, the background color was yellow, but later it was decided to make it red. This was a real problem for the Americans, since there was a lot of yellow permanent paint, but there was no red. And then they came up with a porcelain coating that is not washed off by rain for many years.

Features of the sign

Sign 2.5 is installed in difficult places where it is necessary to ensure traffic safety. These can be intersections of city roads, highways, unregulated intersections, at points of entry to the main road with a secondary one, T-shaped intersections, on roads with limited visibility. If the visibility of the road is sufficient, then it is allowed to use sign 2.4 “Give way”.

Basic requirement 2.5 – movement without stopping is prohibited. The installation location decides where to stop. The stop sign determines the order in which vehicles pass. Initially, the movement is carried out by all traffic participants located on the side road being crossed. The last one to go is the one standing under the sign. The traffic controller can change the order of travel.

Sign requirements

The posted sign requires drivers to give way along the intersection in two directions, along the main road.

It is also prohibited to cross the white stripe 1.12, which can be duplicated by plate 6.16. All these signs oblige drivers at crossings not to drive over the line, and if there is none, then stop before reaching the sign. At the intersection, the stop is made at the edge of the road intersections, but this is provided that there is no line 1.12 or sign 6.16.

Stop line

Most often, the 2.5 is supplemented with a stop line, which determines where the vehicle should stop at a stop sign. According to traffic regulations, both the sign itself and the line must be located in the same section with the road. Driving beyond the stop line is prohibited. You should also not run into a pedestrian crossing.

Stop lines are often placed at intersections regulated by traffic lights. In this case, it shows where cars need to stop at the stop sign. Through traffic is allowed, but only if the traffic light is green. In other cases, you should definitely stop in front of the line, avoiding collisions with it. If the line is poorly visible or is not there, then it is customary to stop 5 meters before the intersection of roads.

Sign 6.16

At those intersections that are regulated by traffic lights, sign 6.16 is installed. He determines where to stop. A stop line sign is usually installed on a traffic light pole, above the roadway, on the right side of the road. By law, it can be installed in two ways: single or duplicate. In the first case, the sign is installed on a support. In the second case, it is duplicated by the “Stop” marking. They are located on the same line and determine where to stop at the stop sign.

Sign 6.16 is usually placed at unregulated railway crossings together with sign 2.5 at a distance of ten meters from the first rail, or can be installed individually.

Application

Permitted high-speed driving on highways is dangerous where they intersect with secondary roads, as well as where there is an exit to the motorway. A stop sign must be installed in these places. Where to stop if there is one on the road? It all depends on what other add-ons are available.

Drivers are informed in advance that there is a 2.5 sign ahead, “Driving without stopping is prohibited.” This happens as follows: a sign is installed on the side of the road in advance with a sign indicating the distance to sign 2.5. Only special-purpose vehicles can violate the procedure for stopping at a sign. You should let them pass and only then drive to the intersection, completing the maneuver.

At intersections regulated by traffic lights, 2.5 is not used.

Driving without errors

If 2.5 is installed, then each driver is required to drive the road section correctly. And if there is a stop sign, where should you stop and what is the correct way to drive through such an intersection?

The main requirement of the sign is a complete stop of the vehicle, and only after that movement is allowed. You cannot slow down, even if there are no other road users within sight, including pedestrians and cyclists. So where according to traffic rules should you stop at a stop sign, in what place?

Driving along the road on which the sign is installed has the following options:

  1. The vehicle moving ahead, having approached the location of the sign, comes to a complete stop. Then the car behind him does the same.
  2. If two cars approach the sign at once, then both are required to stop. After stopping, the driver on the right starts moving first.
  3. It is allowed to start driving only if there are no pedestrians on the road.
  4. It is allowed to start driving at an intersection only if other traffic participants driving along the road being crossed are far away and their speed does not exceed the speed limit for this section of the road.

To pass through an intersection, a stop is made at the edge of the roadway being crossed. But a stop on a section of the road before a railway crossing is made in front of a sign. If there is a stop line, the car must stop in front of it. Driving over the lane must not be allowed.

Fines

If a driver does not know where to stop at a stop sign, he or she may face a fine. Its size is determined by the location of the traffic violation. Within the city, the amount of the fine is determined by Article 12.16 part 1. If there was a violation associated with stopping at a sign, but no violation of the intersection was recorded, for example, the driver did not turn in the prohibited direction, then the fine will be small. If the turning rules were violated, the administrative penalty will increase in size. The law also provides for penalties for driving through a railway crossing. If the driver does not stop at the sign and immediately passes the crossing, then this is considered a violation of traffic rules, for which there is a fine under Article 12.20, part 2. The fine is issued by a traffic police inspector and a protocol of violation is drawn up.

To avoid an administrative violation, you should follow traffic rules, correctly driving through intersections and crossings where a stop sign is installed. This will also help protect yourself and other road users from accidents that may occur on a dangerous section of the road.

The sign driving without stopping is prohibited; as a rule, it is installed instead of the “Give Way” road sign in those places where it is difficult for the driver to see approaching vehicles at intersections of roads.

Often this sign can be seen near a railway line, where, regardless of whether traffic is allowed or prohibited, the driver must stop and only then continue driving.

In this article:

Road sign requirement 2.5

Road sign 2.5 has a clear indication to stop at the stop line or at the edge of the road being crossed. Accordingly, the driver cannot start moving if another car is passing in front of him. Therefore, unlike sign 2.4, the driver must not only give priority to traffic on the main road, but must also stop.

You can often notice the combination of this sign and a traffic light. The question arises, if you are green, do you need to stop? The rules clearly indicate that when the traffic light is running, the effect of the sign does not apply to drivers.

It’s another matter when the intersection is unregulated, due to a broken traffic light or a flashing yellow traffic light. In this case, the instructions of the sign must be followed.

At railway crossings, control over the driver’s obligation to stop at sign 2.5 is carried out through photo and video recording. If you pay attention, all modern railway crossings are equipped with video cameras. You should also keep in mind that there may be a traffic police vehicle nearby recording this offense.

Rules for installing sign 2.5

The installation of a road sign is carried out directly near an intersection or railway crossing. The sign itself has an original shape that cannot be confused with another sign.

Firstly, it is an octagon shape.

Secondly, white Latin letters “stop” on a red background. Why in Latin? Since foreign vehicles move on Russian roads, in accordance with international standards and road safety rules, it was decided to use Latin letters and words that have a common international understanding.

Although, if we take Israel, for example, this sign depicts a palm. And the words are read from right to left.

When reading a stop sign, on the contrary, in Hebrew it means an obscene word. But this is an exception to the general international order and only because of national significance.

The driver needs to stop at the stop line without crossing it. In the absence of a stop line, the rules give clear instructions to stop at the level of the sign.

It is located together with the barrier, so you need to stop immediately in front of it.

The installation of sign 2.5 before the railway crossing is carried out at a distance of 10 meters from the nearest rail.

Responsibility for violation of sign 2.5

The fine for driving a stop sign is set at 800 rubles in accordance with Part 2 of Article 12.12 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation. Provided that there is a stop line marking on the road surface. If there is none, then a sanction is applied in the form of a warning or five hundred rubles under Part 1 of Article 12.16 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation for failure to comply with the requirements of road signs.

In practice, there are many disputes when you have stopped, but the body of the car has passed the sign.

Traffic police officers regard this action as a violation of the traffic sign. Therefore, be careful and better stop before the borders of this sign with a small margin.

Can cause great difficulties for motorists. It becomes difficult for drivers to navigate busy sections of the highway, and this is fraught with the risk of accidents. To simplify the movement process and systematize it, you need to know which signs prohibit further movement without stopping.

Using a pointer

The “No driving without stopping” sign is an alternative to the “Give way” sign. In the interpretation of traffic rules, it has a slightly higher priority, and therefore requires an urgent stop of the vehicle. This sign is installed directly in front of the stop line, as well as the edge of the intersecting street or special road area.

It is the driver's responsibility to give way to other participants if he sees a no-travel symbol ahead. Sign 8.13 indicates the requirement to allow vehicles traveling along the main street to pass. The Administrative Code provides for a fine for ignoring this rule.

It has the appearance of a hexagon. It is made in red color to always remain visible to the driver. In its center is the inscription STOP, written in white paint. Also, near the sign quite often there is a special line for stopping. Thanks to this, it will be noticeable even at a great distance, but to maintain the effect, warning signs are also placed 150–300 meters away.

Location

The installation of the sign is most often observed on particularly busy roads, as well as railway tracks and places under quarantine. The driver must slow down as soon as he notices the installed sign, and when approaching it point-blank, stop. For convenience, a special line is used that cannot be crossed, otherwise you will need to pay a fine.

True, the traffic rules provide for an exception: if there is a white light on the railway tracks, then passage is allowed. Also, the driver must stop, even if he sees obstacles in the form of another car ahead. Such signs are often installed in places of poor visibility, so the driver does not always notice the danger. If this is not done, there is a fine.

Difference with crossing on railway tracks

While driving a car, its owner is able to see railway crossings on his way, equipped with specific signs “Driving without stopping is prohibited.” They may mean:

  • unregulated type crossing. This means that the car must stop its movement in front of the sign and can only resume it after the train has disappeared from view (this is especially important when, apart from such a sign, the driver no longer has any clues about the approach of the train);
  • . It is installed together with a traffic light and a priority sign. If the traffic light indicates red, you need to stop driving in front of the stop line. If the signal is different, you can go;
  • the presence of a two-section type traffic light provides for the driver to stop when the signal is red and resume driving when there is another signal.

Thus, any situation must be considered individually, because the sign on each type of crossing location has its own compliance rules, violation of which is punished by administrative liability such as a fine. The car owner cannot make a claim that the sign was poorly visible or the paint on its surface was worn off, since the sign is considered active in any case.

Violation

If you ignore stopping at the place provided for by law, Art. 12.19 Code of Administrative Offences. The fine varies depending on the type of violation. For example, if a person interferes with the movement of other drivers, he must pay 2,000 rubles, although previously this amount was 500 rubles. The driver's position is also taken into account. If the prohibited passage was made in a suburban or rural area, a minimal fine may be imposed for it. The amount increases many times in a big city.

The legislation regulates punishment for violation of such rules, using a type of liability such as a fine. If a person ignores the fare, he must pay up to 1,500 rubles. True, there is a disagreement if the crossing was made through the sign “Movement without stopping is prohibited” when the light is green. Thus, a fine will be issued by a representative of a law enforcement agency, although there are no barriers to the movement itself.

Signs on the road are among the priority ones and deserve special attention, because they must be observed without fail. A fine is imposed for their violation. If the sign information is subject to dispute, it must be clarified with a road safety inspector. It is important to take into account the factor of the green traffic light and the traffic ban sign, because this is the object of frequent misconceptions.

It is not for nothing that the traffic rules instruct the driver to pay attention to the signs. They can save lives. Even if there is no obstacle to traffic ahead, but the sign requires a stop, this must be done, because there is not always full visibility of all road conditions.

Information signs inform road users about the location of populated areas and other objects, as well as established or recommended traffic modes.

Sign 6.1. General maximum speed limits.

This sign is installed at all checkpoints at the entrance to the territory of the Russian Federation so that guests entering our country by car are informed that the following general speed limits apply in Russia:

– In populated areas – 60 km/h.

– On roads outside populated areas – 90 km/h.

– On highways – 110 km/h.

Sign 6.2"Recommended speed".

Unlike round signs 3.24 "Maximum speed limit" And 4.6 "Minimum speed limit", the square sign 6.1 does not impose strict restrictions on your movement.

That's what the sign is called - "Recommended speed". Remember - we talked to you about the fact that a person associates a ban or restriction with a circle, and information is either a sheet of paper or a monitor screen, that is, a rectangle or square.

I wonder what should be on the road for the Rules, concerned about our safety, to decide to give drivers recommendations using road signs.

The triangular “Dangerous Turn” sign warns drivers that the road will soon “break down.” The turn will be really sharp and dangerous.

Any competent driver will now, of course, slow down, but by how much?

On this section of the road, traffic authorities recommend that drivers drive at a speed of no more than 50 km/h. But not always, but only if the coating is wet.

By the way, keep in mind that a wet coating is not necessary when it rains. A water sprinkler drove by, washed the road, and while the road was not dry, the surface was wet!

Sign 6.3.1"A place to turn around." Sign 6.3.2"Turnaround area."

The rules give the following characteristics to these signs:

– Sign 6.3.1 “Turning space”. Turning left is prohibited.

– Sign 6.3.2 “Turning zone”. Turning left is prohibited.

As you can see, in both cases turning left is prohibited. What kind of turn are we talking about?

First of all, you need to understand that you will never see such a sign or such a sign at an intersection.

At an intersection, a U-turn is allowed “by default”; that’s what the intersection was invented for.

In the same way, a U-turn is allowed “by default”, and along the entire length of a two-lane road with an intermittent center line marking. And here, too, these signs are absolutely inappropriate.

(Let us note in parentheses that on such a road it is not yet prohibited to turn left into the adjacent territories).

Another thing is a multi-lane road, here a U-turn outside the intersection is possible only if it is specially organized.

And it can only be organized with the help of these signs.

If there is a “Turn Around” sign, you can only turn around here one after another.

The sign is installed above the leftmost lane and is visible from afar.

The “Turning Zone” differs from the “Turning Place” in that several vehicles can simultaneously turn around in the turning zone - exactly as many as can fit in this zone.

And the length of the turning zone will be indicated to you both by the number on the sign and the length of the broken marking line.

But it may happen that opposite the turning point there will be an entrance to the adjacent territory. And here’s the question: is it possible on a multi-lane road to turn left into the yard at the turn-around point?

After all, you will have to cross at least two lanes of traffic, or even three or four.

It is precisely about this case that the Rules spoke quite categorically: "Left turns are prohibited."

Some of you will come across this problem in the exam, and now it should be clear to you that the correct answer is:

You can continue moving along any trajectory except B.

Sign 6.4"Parking".

Sign 6.4 informs drivers that they can park with impunity in the designated area.

The effect of the sign can be clarified or supplemented with various signs, for example, in the picture, parking is allowed only for cars and motorcycles and only as shown on the sign.

In this case, the designated area is from the sign to the nearest intersection.

In this case, the sign applies only to this local widening of the roadway.

But it may be so - a fenced area or even part of the building will be allocated for parking.

Sign 6.5"Emergency stop lane."

Signs inform drivers that there is a steep downhill ahead and that this downhill section has an emergency stop lane. And maybe not even just one, but the nearest emergency stop lane is 300 meters away.

You will need an emergency stop lane if your brakes fail on a long descent. Then turn right here! In addition to the preliminary sign installed at the beginning of the descent, this sign will also be located directly in front of the emergency stop strip.

And even if this is not enough, there is a plastic fence at the end of the strip, so be sure to stop.

Signs 6.8.1, 6.8.2, 6.8.3 “Dead End”.

This is not a "brick". This sign does not prohibit entry, it informs drivers that this road does not have a through passage - then a dead end! But if that’s where you need to go, you can safely turn.

And it is also important to understand that none of the “Dead End” signs in any way detract from the status of the road.

This is a full-fledged intersection of equal roads, and if you go straight, then, according to the “interference on the right” principle, you must give way to the truck.

Sign 6.16 "Stop line".

This sign deserves special mention.

Novice drivers often think that this is not an independent sign, but an additional sign. And it is not surprising - it is similar in shape to a sign, and in size, and is not colored (like all signs), but black and white (like all signs). And, nevertheless, this is precisely a sign, and it does not at all complement or clarify the action of any other signs; it has its own special purpose.

Despite the strict word “stop”, this sign does not oblige you to stop. In this case, “stop” is just the first word of the full name of the sign – “Stop Line”. Thanks to this sign, drivers can see from afar where the “Stop Line” markings are on the roadway at this intersection.

The sign may hang above the road or stand on the right side of the road, but in any case, the location of its installation must coincide with the location of the “Stop Line” marking.

If there is no “Stop line” marking, or it is not visible (for example, due to fallen snow), you need to stop at a red traffic light at the sign - in this case, it replaces the action of the marking.

It is clear that if the traffic light is green, you can (and should!) drive through the intersection without stopping.

Traffic direction signs for trucks.

The signs are not round, but rectangular; they also belong to the information group and, therefore, cannot prohibit or prescribe anything. These signs show the recommended direction of movement for drivers of trucks, as well as drivers of tractors and other self-propelled vehicles, if their movement in one of the directions is prohibited at the intersection.

If you are driving a category B car, then in this situation you can continue driving in any direction (these signs do not apply to you).

These signs directly concern the driver of a truck with a permissible maximum weight of more than 3.5 tons. He needs to do it directly, but he can’t do it directly, there is a prohibitory sign. At the same time, the traffic organizers simultaneously suggested the direction to bypass the prohibited section of the road, and if you are the driver of such a truck, turn right, as the sign recommends.

Follow their instructions and be sure to take the continuation of the road you need “straight”.

“Detour Scheme” and “Detour Direction” signs.

It may happen that traffic right at the intersection will be closed not only to trucks, but, in general, to all vehicles without exception.

Then drivers will first be informed about this with a preliminary sign 6.17 “Detour diagram”.

They, as in the previous case, will be placed at all intersections throughout the entire detour route and, following their instructions, you will definitely take the continuation of the road you need “straight”.

I draw your attention to the yellow background of these signs. Just as a green background is a sign of a highway, and a blue background is a sign of other roads, a yellow background is a sign of some kind of detour.

Signs “Preliminary indicator for changing lanes onto another roadway.”

The background of the signs is yellow, therefore, we are again informed about the upcoming detour. Pay attention to the symbolism of the signs - they depict a road with a dividing strip, and specifically the section where the dividing strip has a gap. And in both cases, drivers are invited to turn into this gap.

These signs are installed only on roads with a dividing strip and only in cases where it is necessary to temporarily block traffic on one of the roadways.

Such a need, for example, arises whenever any repair work is being carried out on the road, and in this case, in order to ensure proper safety, it is extremely important to inform drivers in advance that there is a dangerous section of the road ahead!

And there, in this section, you will have to move along the roadway in the opposite direction for some time!

It’s not for nothing that the sign is called “Preliminary indicator for changing lanes onto another roadway”– on roads outside populated areas it is installed at a distance of 500 meters from the upcoming gap in the dividing strip.

When 50-100 meters remain before the gap in the dividing strip, the sign must be repeated (in combination with the “Distance to object” sign).

I don't think any comment is needed here. Everything is very clear - signs invite you to continue driving along the roadway in the opposite direction.

It’s a little scary, but rest assured, drivers in the opposite direction were also warned with signs that two-way traffic was temporarily organized on this section of the road on their roadway.

The length of a section of road with such an unusual traffic pattern cannot be particularly long and, as a rule, ends at the next gap in the dividing strip (where signs will ask you to return to your roadway).

But first, 50-100 meters before this place on the dividing strip there will be sign 6.19.2 “Preliminary indicator for changing lanes onto another roadway.”

Signs “Emergency Exit” and “Direction of Movement to Emergency Exit”.

Now a dead traffic jam will inevitably form in the tunnel, and within half an hour, despite ventilation, the concentration of exhaust gases in the air will exceed all conceivable limits. How to get out of here?

So here it is, sign 6.21.1 on the tunnel wall, telling you where the life-saving exit is.

And so that no one in a hurry misses the exit, a sign 6.20.1 “Emergency exit” will be installed above it (or next to it).

Route number. Directional signs. Distance indicators.

Kilometer sign. Movement pattern. Object name.

When we get behind the wheel of a car, in the vast majority of cases we drive along the same route - to work and back (or to the country and back). It is clear that you know the path like the back of your hand, you can get there, as they say, with your eyes closed, and therefore do not look at any signs like “direction signs”.

It’s another matter if you happen to travel along an unfamiliar route. I assure you, in such a situation we all behave the same way - we eagerly look for at least some signs on the road, afraid to overshoot our turn and end up getting lost.

To understand how this happens, let's travel a little - let's go on a business trip, say, from Moscow to Tver and Volokolamsk. We will travel the same way as Jules Verne did, that is, without leaving home. Let's just try to imagine what might await us along this path.

Before leaving, you should look at the map and plot your route. You can, of course, buy a Road Atlas, but today you will most likely use the Internet. Well, well, nothing is simpler: go to www.rutrassa.ru, select the “Distance between cities” option in the menu, set the starting and ending points (in our case it will be Moscow) and intermediate points - Tver and Volokolamsk.

And here it is - the desired route:

– From Moscow to Tver we will go along the M-10 road.

– From Tver to Volokolamsk we will first go along the P-90 road to the village of Lotoshino.

– In the area of the village of Lotoshino, we turn onto the road P-107, and follow it to the village of Yaropolets.

– In Yaropolets, turn onto the P-108 road, and follow it to Volokolamsk.

– Well, from Volokolamsk to Moscow there is a direct route – M-9.

You most likely have a question - what kind of numbering is this: M-10 road, P-90 road? Well, the number, of course, is most likely just serial. But this is what the letter in the road number means.

A number is really just a serial number, but a letter (also called a prefix) tells the driver very important information.

The prefix “M” is assigned to federal roads. And not to everyone, but only to those that connect Moscow or St. Petersburg with the capitals of neighboring states and with the administrative centers of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation. That is, if you find yourself on such a road, know that one end of it (the road) necessarily ends in Moscow (or St. Petersburg). The M-10 road, in particular, connects Moscow with the cities of Tver, Veliky Novgorod, St. Petersburg, Vyborg and further up to the border with Finland.

So this is simply the well-known Leningradskoye Highway!

Well, then to the center, to Tverskaya Street, which, by the way, is so called because it was from here that coachmen once went to Tver. Just don’t miss after Sokol - there is a fork there, and you can end up on the Volokolamskoye Highway instead of the Leningradskoye Highway.

Thanks to the traffic organizers - 150 meters before the fork, a sign “Preliminary direction indicator” was installed. Now we won’t miss – Leningradskoye Highway is straight ahead.

At the fork, everyone from the right ranks will go to Volokolamka, and that means we must now change into the left ranks.

We are approaching the Moscow Ring Road (MKAD). And again there is a fork, and again there is a hint - the sign “Preliminary Directional Indicator”.

Please note that the Moscow Ring Road and Dmitrovskoye Shosse are written in black letters on a white background. Does this remind you of anything? This is exactly the “design” of the signs that indicate major populated areas. And this is not just a coincidence, thereby drivers are additionally informed that the indicated objects are located in the same locality where you are currently driving (and the Moscow Ring Road is Moscow).

At the same time, St. Petersburg is written in white on a blue background. And this is also additional information for drivers - the specified object is located outside the populated area where you are currently driving.

And again the sign, and again it indicates the direction to the object, only outwardly it looks a little different.

In general, it should be borne in mind that the external design of “Direction Signs” is very diverse. And they can indicate directions to a variety of objects (in addition to populated areas, these are also airports, train stations, theaters, museums, shopping centers, hotels, etc., etc.).

That is, the “Direction Indicator” is a universal sign and, in principle, can be applied to anything. And the number on the sign is the distance to the indicated object (from here there are 3 km left to Sheremetyevo Airport, but we don’t need to go there).

There are no arrows on this sign, and they are of no use - there is nowhere to turn here. This sign is called "Distance indicator".

Therefore, in 20 km there will be Klin, and it’s not too soon to Tver - 103 kilometers.

And two more signs on our way. The one closest to us is called - "Routing number". It is installed every 10-15 km in order to once again reassure drivers that everything is fine, you have not lost your way, you are moving in the right direction.

There is very little left to Tver, and again thanks to the traffic organizers - the “Preliminary direction indicator” sign was installed 500 meters from the upcoming road junction. The symbolism of the sign is simple and clear - if we are going to Tver, then at the junction we should turn right.

Students. Why is the direction to St. Petersburg indicated by two numbers: M-10 and E-105? And why is the M-10 on a blue background, and the E-105 on a green background!

Teacher. Here's the thing. According to our (Russian) classification, this road is assigned the number M-10. At the same time, in the European classification the same road is assigned the number E-105. And so that our foreign guests do not get lost in the Russian expanses, the sign also shows the numbering they are used to (and St. Petersburg is written in English).

Students. But why, after all, is M-10 on a blue background, and E-105 on green, because this is the same road?! After all, a green background is a sign of a highway, and a blue background is a sign of other roads! Well, one road can’t both be and not be a highway at the same time?

Teacher. The green background is only a sign of a motorway and, in itself, it does not make the road a motorway. A road becomes a motorway only if it is marked with sign 5.1 “Motorway”.

And in all this confusion with the background, Europe, or rather the European Road Classification System, is “to blame,” as usual. (The corresponding document in the 2002 edition can be read on the official UNECE website in pdf format in Russian and English).

According to this classification: “The sign used to identify roads of category “E” must be white lettering on a green background.”

By the way, the European highway E-105 begins in Norway (in the city of Kirkenes) and ends in Crimea (in the city of Yalta). It turns out that this International European Highway is assembled from Norwegian roads, Finnish roads, Russian roads and Ukrainian roads. And the Russian road M-10 from the border with Finland to Moscow coincides with the European route E-105.

In addition to the International European Road Network, there is also an International Asian Road Network. Asian routes are given the prefix AH (Asian Highway). And, for example, the Asian route AN-8 connects Finland with Iran and passes through St. Petersburg, Moscow, Volgograd, Astrakhan, Makhachkala, Baku and Tehran. So don’t be surprised if on the stretch between Moscow and St. Petersburg you see on the information road signs, in addition to the already familiar M-10 and E-105, also the AN-8.

And further. The road number on the sign is written without a hyphen. It's not a mistake. It just so happened - in texts and on maps, road numbers are written with a hyphen (M-10), and on road signs (in accordance with the Rules) they are written without a hyphen (M10).

We move along the streets of the city of Tver.

Another interesting sign "Object name" - used to designate objects other than populated areas (river, lake, landmark, etc.).

So, the Volga River is ahead, which means there is a bridge ahead.

We did everything that needed to be done in Tver, now to Volokolamsk. And we should turn left here, but there is an information sign before the intersection 6.9.3 “Traffic pattern”– for some reason, traffic authorities prohibited the usual left turn at this intersection.

But they suggested an unusual one, and even showed the traffic pattern on the sign. Well, it must be so, although along such an intricate trajectory, but in the end we will go in the direction we need.

We left Tver, and after 500 meters there was another road junction. It’s too early for us to go to Moscow, we don’t need to go to Nizhny Novgorod, but we need to go straight - along the R-90 road.

True, there was some ambiguity. We already know that the prefix “M” is assigned to the most important roads of Federal significance. What does the prefix “P” mean in the road number? What kind of road is this?

The prefix “R” is assigned to both federal and regional roads connecting the administrative centers of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation. For drivers, the prefix “P” means that you cannot come directly to Moscow along this road. At best, it will lead to another road, and if this other road is with the prefix “M”, then along it it will be possible to get to Moscow (or go abroad).

However, we got distracted, and in the meantime it’s time to turn on the left turn signals. There is an intersection ahead, and in front of it there are signs “Route number”.

And again, thanks to the traffic organizers - what would we be doing at this intersection now without these signs? And so everything is clear - we need to take the road P-107, which means we turn left.

And again, thanks to the traffic organizers - there is an intersection ahead, and there, at the intersection, we turn right onto the P-108 road, towards Volokolamsk.

We leave Volokolamsk. But while we are still in the city, the background of the sign is white. The first turn to the right is to St. Petersburg, and ours, to Moscow, is the next one.

St. Petersburg on a blue background, this is understandable - this object is located outside the populated area through which we are now driving.

But what’s interesting is that Moscow, of course, is also located outside of Volokolamsk, but the inscription is not on a blue, but on a green background, and there’s also a pictogram next to it – a tracing paper from the 5.1 “Highway” sign. Now there is no doubt - we will go to Moscow along the highway.

And sure enough, all you had to do was leave the city, and there it was, the 5.1 “Motorway” sign.

I hope you haven’t forgotten - after sign 5.1 a zone with a special traffic regime will begin. Firstly, as on any road outside a populated area, you need to move as far to the right as possible, and if you want to stop, then only outside the road at specially designated rest areas. In addition, turning and reversing are prohibited, but the maximum permitted speed is 110 km/h.

Well, we pressed the accelerator pedal and forward to Moscow.

Again the Advance Directions Sign. The background of the sign is green - another confirmation that we are driving on the highway. You already know that on highways there are no intersections at the same level, which means there is a multi-level road junction ahead.

Go straight to Moscow and still at a speed of up to 110 km/h, but if we turn right or left, then there is an ordinary road (the road number is written on a blue background!). And that means that there, on a regular road, the speed is no more than 90 km/h, but you can stop on the side of the road if you wish.

You may well have a question - how is this inscription deciphered: “a.d. M10 "RUSSIA". This is just the M-10 highway, which was also given its own name “RUSSIA”. By the way, all the most important roads of federal significance have their own names (Belarus, Ukraine, Don, Ural, etc.).

And further. Please note - both to the right and to the left there is a road with the same number A-108. We haven't seen the prefix "A" yet. What does it mean and what information can drivers take away from it?

The prefix “A” is assigned to roads of regional significance. These are the so-called access and connecting roads. Access roads, because they can be used to get to a local airport, or a large railway station, or some other special purpose facility. And connecting ones, because local authorities build such roads in order to connect their regional center with the nearest federal road. Or in order to connect two or more federal roads.

In particular, the A-108 road is the well-known Great Moscow Ring - this ring road connects all the radial roads leaving Moscow. And if we turn right now, then along the A-108 ring we will get to the M-1 “Belarus” highway, and if we turn left, then along the same A-108 ring we will get to the M-10 “Russia” highway.
