What kind of oil to fill in the automatic transmission of the Lada Granta. How to change the fluid in a VAZ Granta machine? Granta automatic transmission what kind of oil

Lada Granta is a compact car in the budget segment, created on the Lada kalina platform. The car has a well-studied and time-tested design, and due to this it is in demand even in the supported market - largely due to not only the low price and good driving performance, but also the possibility of carrying out maintenance at home. It must be admitted that in this case the Lada Grante has no equal compared to more expensive foreign cars. So, even a novice car owner can handle some repair procedures. For example, change the oil in the gearbox. This is really easy to do, but choosing the gear oil itself is much more difficult. This task requires a separate analysis, and we will consider it in detail using the example of a Lada Granta with a four-speed Jatco automatic transmission.

Nuances of choosing oil

Every Lada Granta owner will sooner or later have to face the need to change the automatic transmission oil. This is especially true for Russian motorists who operate their cars, to put it mildly, not in favorable climatic conditions. Taking into account severe weather conditions, as well as the specific quality of the road surface in our country, the car is constantly exposed to enormous loads, and at the same time the gearbox is also subject to overloads. In this regard, an urgent oil change or an unscheduled fluid change may be required. The frequency of replacement is ambiguous and depends on many weather factors. Thus, the automatic transmission oil change schedule for Lada Granta averages 20-30 thousand km. Let us immediately note that this is the opinion of experienced motorists who have been using the Granta for quite a long time. The fact is that the manufacturer himself does not recommend changing the oil, or advises changing it after 100 thousand kilometers, which is equivalent to the entire operation of the car for one owner. After all, often after reaching this mileage, the first owner sells the car. But we must admit that the need to change the oil in the automatic transmission will be required much earlier than this date.

Automatic Jatco

Lada Kalina is equipped with an automatic transmission from the Japanese company Jatco. This four-stage unit is recognized as very reliable and unpretentious in long-term use. But at the same time, like any other mechanism, it needs timely maintenance. Changing the oil in an automatic transmission is one of the most important transmission maintenance procedures to maintain the strength and reliability of its components. Let us note the fact that the same “automatic” was once installed in the Nissan Micra.

The AvtoVAZ company recommends using Genuine GM EJ-1 ATF oil, or filling in a high-quality analogue of Nissan ATF Matic-S. The reliability and high beneficial properties of both oils are confirmed by many years of research, as well as test results. Both oils have official approval from AvtoVAZ. We can say that the same oil that is used for the previous generation Nissan Micra is suitable for the Lada Granta automatic transmission.

Naturally, there are other options. For example, among cheaper analogues, Aisin ATF AFW+ would be a very good product.

How much to fill

The Lada Granta automatic transmission requires only 5.1 liters of new oil when changing the fluid - after the old oil is drained. This figure is relevant for a partial replacement, while a complete replacement requires about 7 liters of lubricant. A complete replacement is carried out using a flushing agent that is passed through the entire automatic transmission.

Conclusion

Having considered the suitable options, you can decide on the best oil for the Lada Granta automatic transmission. It is better to use a quality product, which does not have to be expensive and original. This can be seen judging by the presence on the market of quite good analogues from the companies Mobil, Castrol, ZIC, ExxonMobil, Lukoil, etc.

Lada Kalina cars of the second group are equipped with mechanical or. Regardless of the type of design, gearboxes for LADA Kalina are characterized by high quality and, when used correctly, do not cause trouble for drivers. Automobile manufacturers declare that there is no need for mandatory oil changes in manual transmissions and automatic transmissions during the operating period. But, as practice shows, such a need exists. A full or Lada Granta has to be carried out after a mileage of 75,000 km.

Design features of the Jatco automatic transmission

Lada Granta cars are equipped with a four-speed automatic (AY-K3). The characteristics of the new car are as close as possible to international standards. The Lada Granta gearbox is equipped with a reliable hydraulic unit.

The technical capabilities and operational properties of this automatic transmission are excellent for modern domestically produced cars. The gearbox is protected from overheating; reliable protection is triggered when it reaches +114°C. Sensor readings below this parameter are considered normal for further movement. Grant's gearbox is controlled by an ECU.

The main purpose of lubricants for automatic transmissions

The condition of road surfaces on Russian highways is not of high quality, so when driving a Grant on our roads, you will have to change the oil in the gearbox much more often.

  • reduction in the volume of lubricating fluid in the crankcase;
  • increased wear of the lubricant;
  • oil filter clogged.

Before checking the fluid level, you need to:

  1. Start the engine.
  2. Apply the brake.
  3. Switch on each gear alternately.
  4. With the engine running, check the lubricant level using the dipstick.

If the oil in the system is cold, you need to look at the “COLD” mark, when warming up - “HOT”, respectively. These inscriptions are located on the probe on different sides.

Tip: The dipstick will be accessible after removing the air filter housing.

Checking the oil level in the automatic transmission is carried out at intervals of one and a half to two months. If the oil volume has sharply decreased, you need to add the required amount of lubricant into the box.

Oil for Lada Granta automatic machine

Automakers provide clear recommendations on the choice of lubricant for each specific vehicle. To understand which oil to buy for the automatic transmission of your Lada Grant, the car owner needs to carefully study the service book. It also indicates how many liters of oil you need to purchase to fill the tank to its full capacity.

Most often, for Grant's automatic transmission, the manufacturer recommends Genuine EJ-1 or Nissan ATF Matic-S oil.

Tools for changing oil in automatic transmission Lada Granta

If, as a result of the check, it turns out that the gear oil has lost its useful properties, it is recommended to contact the nearest service center. Experienced drivers carry out partial or complete oil changes themselves in a garage.

The process of changing the Lada Granta oil is not much different from the standard operation for other automatic transmissions. First, you should prepare a basic set of available tools and other devices:

  • wrenches 10, 16, 19;
  • polyhedron by 6;
  • special container for draining used oil;
  • funnel;
  • an extended elastic hose of the appropriate diameter for the filler hole;
  • rags of suitable quality (lint-free). Changing the oil in an automatic transmission can be partial or complete. Everything depends on the results of the preliminary check.

Features of partial and complete oil changes in Granta automatic transmission

Unlike, in an automatic transmission it is possible to partially change the lubricant. As a result of this operation, the oil in the Lada Granta automatic transmission is mixed with the existing solution. After traveling 200 km, it can be said that the new portion of oil has completely dissolved in the base composition.

A complete oil change in an automatic transmission in a Lada Granta is carried out in the following order:

  1. Open the hood, disconnect the battery.
  2. Remove the air filter housing assembly.
  3. Unscrew the sump plug (key 6).
  4. Drain some of the oil into the prepared bowl.
  5. Insert the tube, drain the remaining liquid, tighten.
  6. Pour new oil (5 liters) through a tube with a funnel inserted into the filler hole.
  7. Excess oil will drain through the inspection hole located below.
  8. Clean the magnets in the tray.
  9. Place the air filter housing in its original place.
  10. Turn on the engine.
  11. Wait until excess lubricant drains out.
  12. Finally tighten the plug.

The oil change in the Grant gearbox is completed.

When changing the Grant automatic transmission oil, you should take into account the design features of an automatic transmission compared to a manual transmission. Here it is unacceptable for dust and other foreign particles to enter the general system of the box. Before carrying out this activity, it is necessary to thoroughly clean the funnels, watering cans, tubes and other devices from the remains of old oil, dirt, etc.

During the oil change process, the temperature in the system should not exceed 45°C. This procedure can be carried out “cold”; the effectiveness is not significantly reduced. The drained heated oil takes up a larger volume compared to the new product. Therefore, before pouring, it is recommended to warm it up to the required temperature.

The automatic transmission crankcase holds a fluid volume of 5.4 liters. In case of incomplete replacement, at least three liters of oil are used.

Everyone knows that the oil change in the Lada Granta automatic transmission is carried out only at a service center. In general, such a replacement is not required according to the regulations, since the service interval is 100 thousand km. But changing the oil in an automatic transmission will not be more difficult than in a car with a manual transmission. The problem is that it will be impossible to control the level, although a probe for control is provided in the design of the “automatic machine”.

The volume of drained oil can be estimated from the video.

Design features of the Jatco gearbox

We are talking about an automatic transmission installed on Lada cars. The automatic transmission design has a dipstick that allows you to control the oil level. But the control is carried out when the engine is running, and it will be impossible to get to the dipstick without removing the filter.

This dipstick is even more convenient than on a manual transmission

Consider that instead of a dipstick, only a plug is installed. In fact, this is the case for many - if you remove the filter, you can see the “plug” and not the dipstick.

Checking the oil level in the automatic transmission on Lada Granta

Let's look at how to check the oil level in the automatic transmission of Lada Grants, following the regulations:

Both inscriptions are applied to different sides of the probe. But to get to it, you need to remove the engine air filter housing.

Preparing for partial or complete replacement

Open the hood and disconnect the battery (key “10”, terminal “minus”). Next, remove the filter housing:

  1. We disconnect the mass air flow sensor connector (oval), as well as the adsorber valve connector (small plastic). We also disconnect the power cable tie from the case;

    Two connectors and one tie

  2. The corrugation and the filter must be separated: loosen the clamp, remove the corrugation;

    The corrugation is pulled from the socket on the body

  3. The filter housing must be removed from the supports - start with the front support located closer to the center;
  4. The supply pipe is disconnected from the housing. Then the box is removed, and it will need to be mounted before starting the engine.

    Don't forget about the pipe

Now that there are no unnecessary parts, changing the oil in the Lada Granta automatic transmission can be done quickly.

Partial replacement

Don't forget to return the dipstick to its rightful place. Reassemble the remaining components.

After all the steps, the old oil in the automatic transmission will be mixed with the new one. But this process will end after 100-200 km. The “partial replacement” is then repeated, and a total of 3-4 liters of “old” material will be replaced.

Complete automatic transmission oil change on Lada Granta

You can completely change the oil in the automatic transmission of Lada Granta. Plug 2 is screwed into the crankcase from below (key “19”). Underneath it there is tube 3, which is unscrewed with a “6” hexagon.

Two plugs at one point

The algorithm will be simple:

Of course, the car itself is placed on an overpass (pit).

  • An automatic transmission is more sensitive to dust than any manual transmission. This must be remembered even when changing the oil in the automatic transmission of Lada Grants. All funnels and tubes must be perfectly clean.
  • There is no need to increase the temperature of the box too much. The optimum is 45 degrees, but in general, if we are talking about an “automatic”, you can replace it with a “cold” one. But for greater efficiency, the box is “heated”, and then the “new” oil must also be heated.
  • When measuring the volume of liquid being drained, take into account the temperature - heated liquid expands.

Material selection

Let us remind you that a partial replacement requires up to three liters of oil, but in general the crankcase holds 5.1 liters. The “old” material is mixed with the “new”, and there are only two options to choose from:

  • Nissan ATF Matic-S;
  • Genuine EJ-1 ATF.

Jatco itself uses the second option.

Changing the oil in a Grant automatic transmission is a procedure that a car owner must do when his car has driven a certain number of kilometers. Despite the installed Jatco JF414E automatic transmission, which was specially manufactured for the Asian market and harsh climatic conditions, the machine needs topping up and a complete change of lubricant regularly.

ATF change timing

In order not to spend money on overhauling the automatic transmission, experienced car owners advise changing the oil in the gearbox after 65 thousand km of driving the vehicle.

Since negatively influencing processes occurring inside the machine, both due to the fault of the car owner and natural ones, contribute to the rapid production of lubricant.

Such negative processes include:

  • an increase in the temperature in the box when slipping or driving off-road, as well as in countries with hot climates;
  • cold and abrupt starts in winter;
  • dirty filter device.

The oil in the Lada Xray automatic transmission ceases to perform the functions for which it was intended. Namely:

  • protection of metal parts from wear;
  • lubrication of machine components;

Attention! The Jatco JF414E automatic transmission is very picky about the quality of the lubricant. Therefore, cheap analogues will quickly disable it.

The manufacturer indicates that the lubricant must be changed after 80 thousand kilometers. Experienced car owners and mechanics advise motorists who have a car with this gearbox to replace it much earlier than this period. Therefore, the recommended complete replacement, taken from practice, is 50 - 60 thousand kilometers.

Recently, significant changes have occurred in the Russian automotive industry. The AvtoVAZ company managed to equip its cars with an automatic transmission. One of the first models to have an automatic transmission was the Lada Granta. It received technical characteristics similar to international standards.

Grant was equipped with a Yatko machine gun. The box turned out to be very resistant to difficult operating environments. Since last year, the machine began to be produced only in a luxury configuration. An inexpensive “robot” was installed on other Grants. Visually, the Lada Granta with automatic transmission has no differences from its relative with manual transmission. But its fuel consumption is higher.

Features of automatic transmission on Grant

The car can accelerate to 100 km in 13.3 seconds. The highest speed it can reach is 173 km/h. For urban conditions and the highway, such characteristics are quite sufficient.

The main control component is the lever. It was made in the classic version for cars twenty years ago. The slides, in which each gear was switched in a certain sequence, often provoked difficulties due to driver errors during gear changes.

Modern ones began to be made in the form of ladders. This technical solution made it possible to get rid of these problems. The cable is responsible for switching. This scheme is quite old, but reliable.

There is a protection system against unauthorized activation. If the car is moving at speed, the wrong gear will not engage. The system is controlled by an electronic unit.

There is protection against overheating. If the car is used at sub-zero temperatures, it is better to warm up the engine and automatic transmission by holding the car on the brake with the gear engaged. Failure to do this may cause problems. Until the box is warmed up, the torque converter lock-up and gears will not begin to work.

The automatic transmission option is more convenient for many motorists, including beginners.

How often do you need to replace the lubricant in an automatic transmission on a Lada Granta?

According to the manufacturer, the automatic transmission of this car does not require an oil change for the entire period of use of the car. However, any experienced car owner is unlikely to believe such a statement. After all, it is known that any lubricant can change its properties over time. This is caused by natural processes. After all, during use, a car lubricant has to withstand temperature changes, as well as the influence of other factors. So periodic oil changes in the automatic transmission of the Lada Grant are still required. Moreover, it is not difficult to perform.

The resource of the box of this car is approximately 150 thousand km. It is recommended to change the oil every 75 km. Once every 150 km it is worth checking the oil level. The automatic transmission is unpretentious in terms of oil composition. But it is still better to use original oil, because the solenoid settings are sensitive to the composition of the oil.

How to check the oil quantity?

First you will need to start the engine, press the brake, go through each gear and engage the “P” gear. Next, without turning off the engine, you will need to remove the dipstick and check the level: if the gearbox is cold, you need to use the “COLD” risks. If the box has been warmed up, the “HOT” designation will be needed. These two inscriptions are on opposite sides of the dipstick. To get to the dipstick, you will need to remove the motor filter housing.

Preparing to replace the lubricant

Open the hood and disconnect the battery. After this, remove the filter housing. To do this, disconnect the mass air flow sensor connector and the canister valve connector. The power cable tie will also need to be disconnected from the case.

Disconnect the filter from the corrugation. First loosen the clamp and then remove the corrugation. After this, remove the filter housing from the supports. It is better to start with a support, which is located near the center. Disconnect the supply pipe from the housing and remove the box. Before starting the engine, it will need to be mounted.

After this, you can begin to change the lubricant.

Incomplete or partial replacement

  1. Remove the transmission dipstick.
  2. Assemble a structure from tubes with a diameter of 8 mm. Place your hand in the hole to add oil.
  3. Start draining the waste liquid into a specially prepared container.
  4. Be sure to measure the volume of drained oil.
  5. Take a funnel with a tube. Add oil.
  6. Put the dipstick back. Reassemble the remaining components.

After the operations, the new gear will mix with the old one. But this will happen only after at least 200 km. Partial replacement can be done again.

As already mentioned, there is nothing wrong with mixing automatic transmission oils. But it’s better not to carry out such experiments with the engine.

Complete replacement

The lubricant in the automatic transmission on Grant can be changed in full. At the bottom of the crankcase there is a plug 2. Below it there is a tube 3, which can be unscrewed using a key set to “6”.

  1. Unscrew the plug. You will drain approximately 250 ml of liquid. Place the prepared container, unscrew the tube and drain the remaining oil.
  2. Screw on the tube 3.
  3. Pour 5 liters of oil through the hole in the dipstick. Excess liquid will come out through the hole at the bottom.
  4. Reinstall the air filter and dipstick. Start the engine.
  5. Over time, the excess will drain off.
  6. After the process is completed, tighten plug 2.

An automatic transmission is more sensitive to dust than a manual transmission. This is worth considering. When changing the oil, make sure that all tubes with funnels are clean.
