So it's a fast, very fast car. It just allows you to race with a minimum of effort, and this apparent lightness is misleading. The Porsche Cayman S will probably fly even faster here, but in this mode, not every driver will retain control of a rear-wheel drive central engine car. The Audi TT RS will lose to him in corners due to a different weight distribution and steered wheels loaded with traction, but it will forgive much more mistakes.

A seven-speed robot with two clutches closes an odd clutch, after a moment it jumps to the second - and you gain the first hundred in 3.7 seconds. Three and seven tenths, Carl! Fifteen years ago, this result was unattainable even for a Porsche 911 Turbo S, and now any blonde in a cute Audi will perform this trick. And not everyone will understand why it was darned so unceremoniously: the most evil version outwardly differs from the usual TT only in other bumpers, a fixed wing and oval exhaust pipes. Yes, with big wheels: the minimum option for the winter is 225/40 R19, and the standard summer size is 255/30 R20. Tires are supplied by Pirelli - road P Zero or more evil, track version P Zero Corsa.

Smaller wheels simply won't fit the brakes. An alternative to the already mentioned cast-iron discs that give up too soon are the optional carbon-ceramic ones. They provide better responsiveness to the first press, more precise dosage of force - and, of course, much more enduring than standard ones. Heat is dissipated more efficiently, and this also benefits the tires: with standard brakes, after active driving, the pressure in the front wheels jumped from the recommended 2.4 to 3.3 atm, and the temperature - up to one hundred degrees!

The convertible, curiously, loads the front axle less, although it is heavier than the coupe: 1530 against 1440 kg.

The new bodywork is based on the Audi Space Frame concept. The floor and front are made of hot stamped steel, the power structure and body panels are aluminum. The roadster has a reinforced windshield frame (aluminum profiles are duplicated with steel ones), diagonal struts appeared at the rear, and an additional partition made of box-shaped profiles between the passenger compartment and the trunk.

The aluminum engine in the coupe and roadster is the same - an evolution of the famous five-cylinder 2.5 TFSI engine, which was named the best engine of the year in its class seven times. With the preserved working volume of 2480 cm³, it develops 400 hp. and 480 Nm, while the previous TT RS output was 340 forces and 450 Nm. The increase was given by a new turbocharger with an overpressure of 1.35 atm (it was 1.2 atm), a more efficient intercooler and combined injection. At the same time, the motor felt lighter by 26 kg, and together with other measures to reduce weight, this provided a specific power of 3.6 kg / hp. for coupe and 3.8 kg/hp for a convertible. The dynamics of an open car is slightly worse: acceleration to a hundred lasts two tenths longer - but it is controlled more interestingly!

Thanks to a different weight distribution and chassis tuning, the roadster plows less in corners and takes maneuvers more quickly. It is generally accepted that an all-metal body is stiffer than an open body, and this is true - however, it is not only the ability to resist twisting that is important, but also how it is taken into account when sizing the suspension. The TT RS roadster, if not faster than a coupe on the circuit, is certainly more pleasant to drive.

And if you fold the roof, you will get all the pleasures at once. You can bathe in sun, wind and sound: the unique sound of the five cylinders, which work in a 1-2-4-5-3 sequence, can be enhanced by opening the dampers in the mufflers by pressing a button on the center tunnel. And do not regret that the roadster has only two seats - the rear sofa of the coupe is absolutely nominal, even teenagers cannot fit here.

So my choice is the Audi TT RS roadster with optional carbon-ceramic brakes and active suspension, which in Comfort mode really provides an acceptable ride, and in Sport mode it becomes more collected. The usual, non-adaptive chassis gives the Ereska even more interesting handling, but even on Spanish roads it shakes the soul.

But what's the point of dreaming? . At the beginning of 2017, only the coupe will appear, and it is not known at what price. But the fate of the car will depend on the price.

Will Audi go for dumping for the sake of a fashion model, as competitors did? So, a 370-horsepower coupe in Russia is sold for 3.65 million rubles - half a million cheaper if you count the German price tag. A Porsche Cayman S with a capacity of 350 forces in Germany costs 4.68 million rubles in terms of rubles, while in our country its price is a third of a million lower.

In the homeland of Audi, the TT RS coupe will cost 66,400 euros, which is 4.85 million rubles at the current exchange rate! If the Russian office can “move” up to four million, then I would be more willing to recommend this car to a wider range of customers than the M2 or Cayman: Audi has an all-wheel drive transmission and a combination of crazy dynamics with complaisant behavior.

And the brakes ... In the city, basic cast-iron ones are enough, and for trips to the track, you just need to change the pads.

Having bought a new sports car from ordinary TTs in the cabin, you will only differ in seats and steering wheel. There is nothing left of the previous generation, everything has been redesigned. You will be on leather bucket seats with active lateral support, electric adjustment and glossy plastic lining on the sides. There are two seats in the back without retention elements and in general there is not much space there.

The interior is full of Fine Nappa leather with diamond stitching, Alcantara and rare carbon inserts. The beveled steering 3-spoke steering wheel received more than 15 buttons on 2 chrome-plated spokes.


The dashboard of the Audi TT RS is represented by the MMI Radio multimedia system display. It displays information about the car, including the current speed, and it also displays navigation data, audio systems, etc. There is no familiar display on the center console.

The minimalism of the center console is surprising, because it is represented by several buttons and air deflectors. The amazing part is the vents themselves, there's a shared climate control, and each of the three vents has a small washer in the center that you can adjust. The trunk of the TT RS 2018-2019 of 302 liters is acceptable for bags with things, it makes no sense to carry something else in a sports car. Even the ability to fold down the seats and get 712 liters is amazing. For what? The roadster will have 280 liters and the rear seats do not recline.

The novelty is equipped with a new 2.5-liter TFSI engine. This is a 5-cylinder turbo unit with direct fuel injection. The return was 400 horsepower at 5850 rpm and 480 H * m of torque at 1700 rpm - almost from idle.

The pair is a 7-speed robotic S-Tronic with multiple clutches. The moment is distributed along the axes in different proportions, regulated by an all-wheel drive system with a Haldex clutch.

Now for the dynamics. The Coupé accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds and electronically limits the top speed to 250 km/h. Passport consumption figures look false - 11 liters of AI-98 in the city and 8 on the highway, perhaps not using the Audi TT RS (8S) as a sports car, driving as calmly as possible, such figures are achieved, but we are not sure.


The platform implies a system on the front axle and a multi-link scheme at the rear, adaptive shock absorbers are located in a circle. Handling is simply indescribable, due to the layout, shock absorbers and electronic assistants, the car is screwed into turns without demolishing the rear axle.

The braking system does the job, with 370mm and 310mm discs front and rear respectively with single-piston calipers stopping well. Ventilation is present only at the front, which is a little disappointing. Optionally, you can put more efficient ceramics.

Russian buyers are offered only a coupe version with a minimum base price tag of 4,962,000 rubles. Most likely not, the civilian version can easily cope with attracting views and giving back emotions, if it is not enough, that is. This car is exclusively for aggressive sports driving, for nothing else.

It is likely that the upcoming modification of the TT RS plus (about 420 hp is expected in it) will reach this indicator. The top speed of the coupe and roadster is limited to 250 km/h.

Other tech features include a 10mm lower sports suspension, adaptive dampers with magnetorheological fluid and heavy-duty brakes with 370mm discs. At the same time, carbon-ceramic mechanisms, 20-inch wheels, an adjustable rear spoiler instead of a static one, matrix diode head optics and rear lights with a 3D effect on organic light-emitting diodes (OLED) are available for a fee.

Sales of the new Audi TT RS (8S) in Europe started in the fall of 2016 at a price of 66,400 euros for a coupe and from €69,200 for a roadster. In Russia, the model appeared in March 2017 (so far only with a hard top), the minimum cost of a sports car in the Touring configuration is 4,633,000 rubles, and for the top Track version, you have to pay from 4,972,000 rubles.

The equipment of the first includes LED matrix head optics, leather interior, electric front seats, rear view camera and automatic parking system. The Track version flaunts the presence of carbon fiber inserts on the body, OLED rear lights on organic diodes, a sports exhaust, an adaptive suspension with electronically controlled shock absorbers and a collar weakened to 280 km / h on the top speed limiter.




Oh, it’s completely cold, and I want to give her at least a little warmth from my fingers, because the countdown, according to the laws of the genre, is a little delayed. The awakened in-line 400-horsepower "five" roars with a half-second delay, adding a couple of juicy low-frequency shots to the exhaust tract, and quickly calms down, moving on to a disgruntled bay.

At least, in the near future only those who ordered the Audi TT RS in the spring will hear her voice. The car is so limited that the Russian quotas were scattered instantly. And at outbids, of course, you can’t get such a sports car.

The TT got the RS version only in the second generation of the 2009 model, and the current third is the second for the RS. Before the advent of the MQB architecture, all Eresques were strikingly different from stock Audis, primarily in terms of technology. TT or RS?

Now it seems to me that "modularity" has destroyed everything special and individual, and above all - appearance. MIAS-2014 is still fresh in my memory, when a pair of Audi TTs on the podium caused a flurry of emotions with their appearance. But three years later, they are almost the same for me.

Not having time to realize where I can apply and test all this, I get a crushing blow to the fifth point. It seems that the speed in front of the traffic light is quite small, only the unnoticed "speed bump" for a moment turned the sports coupe into a stool for torture. Tires 245/35 R19 transmit any irregularities over 3-5 cm into the cabin, but if it were only in the wheels ...


The TT RS's own suspension design is not allowed. As a basis, they took a regular one from a TT with a front MacPherson strut and a rear multi-link. They only changed the diameters of the anti-roll bars, strengthened the springs and shock absorbers, which in the test version also have electronic damping. Only now it does not save in our conditions. The chassis is sharpened for perfect asphalt, and in the absence of such, your soft spot should be iron, or even better, plump.

Just from the mere realization that you have a full-fledged sports car in your hands, you can put up with such costs, and at a speed of 5 km / h, almost any Audi obstacle will crawl over without consequences. The main thing is not to hook it with a bumper: the ground clearance is quite small. But the whole buzz from the management of the RS, of course, is different. The only trouble is that for this car, any speeds allowed for us are included in the concept of “vomiting” ...


Naturally, there are autodromes where you can get through, as long as we have not yet dreamed of unlimited autobahns. You can spit on the cameras: the amount of fines for half an hour of pleasure will hardly exceed 4,000 rubles paid for a 15-minute race at the same Moscow Raceway, but you can trick ...

In addition to a maximum speed of 250 km/h, and with a surcharge for removing the limiter - and 280 km/h, a little less than one and a half ton TT RS is distinguished by heavy dynamics of 3.7 s to hundreds. It is faster than all German classmates in terms of dimensions and curb weight.


So, no traffic rules will prevent you from gaining 60, 80 or 100 km per hour in a much shorter time than all other cars. With a slight trembling in my heart, I wait for the "green" and quickly push the accelerator to the stop. A hail of low-frequency sounds crashes into the surrounding area, and the RS takes off.


The steering wheel, sheathed in suede, does not try to escape from the hands: both axles came into play, the virtual tachometer needle jumped to 6 thousand, and I just had to count “one, two, three ...”. And cut the fun short with eight-piston brake calipers. To brighten up the annoyance, I press the button for the sporty sound of the exhaust and, rumbling, I drag myself in the general stream. Though so, but the process reminded me of something that is not talked about in a decent male company.

Along the way, I'm trying to realize how many gears the 7-speed "robot" DQ500 with two clutches managed to flip over in a few seconds ... Two, three, four? It is simply impossible to keep track of this with an emergency set of speed. How do HRs write there: “Work in multitasking conditions”? Yeah, they just don't know what it really is.


Brutal motor, super-fast box… Lack of authenticity in appearance and interior? I no longer remember this. Who cares if the TT RS can accelerate like that. But there are feelings of understatement and incompleteness, with which it will be dreary and insipid to live.

Price of freedom

Almost every driver has his own, hidden and studied to the cracks, a section of asphalt several kilometers long, where you can afford the forbidden fruit of speed and tough maneuvers. Mine is half an hour from Moscow. No, already in 20 minutes ... In the case of the TT RS, I was wrong by a third.

There is no longer any need for a deliberate “push-button” exhaust sound: the set Sport mode, which immediately added a thousand on the tachometer and squandered the box “down”, provides for the opening of the dampers in the muffler and a rare thump in the city on the highway turns into a cannonade. The already rigid suspension turns the coupe into a monolithic slab without a shadow of buildup, rapidly sliding along the highway.


Any overtaking or advance is simply imperceptible - just add a little gas. Any rebuilding is as if on command from your own brain, which has calculated the trajectory and the list of actions for its implementation. The “double-turn”, extremely “short” steering wheel feels the slightest tension in the fingers. Just move your little finger!

In fast, tight corners, you can get by with gas, twisting the car with much more effect. It would seem that the transverse engine and the lack of a Torsen differential are not the best option for an all-wheel drive sports car. But not in our case.
