Comparison of cars Renault Duster I crossover and Kia Sportage III crossover. Renault SUV or Kia cross-hatch? What's better to buy a Kia Sportage Duster for a million?

Introductory - for 2 years 65 thousand. For every 100 km - 15% of the mileage on terrible dirt roads, shaking and off-road, on a good highway the speed is 130-150 mph, urban mode 30% of the mileage. Average consumption 9.8
The maximum speed has all the necessary options, the minimum price among competitors.
I am happy with the cruise control, anti-corrosion protection and the way the car “holds” the road (well, the tires are not the last place)
Passable, never got stuck yet. although there are places (forest, field 2 times per trip, snow and showers in the assortment). Yes, it’s not a Niva or a Sheviniva (I have experience mixing “shit”), so sometimes you need to look at the road and adequately assess the situation.
There were reviews about poor heating, the butt warms quickly and hot, the stove quickly brings heat into the cabin, and maintains the temperature at speed 1. I categorically don’t like the air conditioner, but if necessary it works fine, especially in the city when it’s hot.
The machine is utilitarian and fully fulfills the assigned tasks of a semi-rural resident. A sort of simple and understandable comfortable mini-truck.
To those who blaspheme Duster, I’ll say - buy yourself a Ferarri (though it’ll cost you 5 kopecks to find one), and drive along our roads with potholes and ruts. Or think before buying what you are taking and what you need it for.

I almost never use the hands-free feature. I can hear perfectly well, but I’m practically gone. Weak microphone.
- poor visibility in the rear view mirror. Especially if there is a passenger whose head almost completely blocks the right rear “window”. Although I have a “ski” and a view from the left side post to the right. Side mirrors make things easier. They are good, there is no need to reconfigure when parking.
- maybe not "-" underestimated speed readings by 4 km/h
- there are no engine temperature readings on the dashboard, sometimes annoying in winter
- drove into a puddle after heavy rain - the check light came on. I already gave up on fixing it.
- in winter you need to control the gas tank cap, do not open or close it after washing
- lack of rubber seals in the right places. All the dust is "in itself." Especially when you open the rear doors, all the arches are dusty, you walk around with a cloth and wipe them off. For the money I installed a rubber seal on the hood, the engine and engine compartment became cleaner.
- regarding short passes, read the “textbook” (instructions). The first one is for off-road conditions and a loaded vehicle (+ trailer). I'm starting from the second one. The fifth and sixth ones have a large range, no unnecessary movements are necessary.

Almost every 15 thousand I change the front or rear stabilizer struts. Perhaps the off-road shaking is making itself felt.
- under warranty, replacement of the residual oxygen sensor (lambda probe) for 30 thousand
- under warranty, the body was partially repainted (cracks in the LPK gutters on both sides, chips from gravel on the rear arches and wings) for 45 thousand. For the money, they glued armored film to the arches.
- I replaced burnt-out low beam lamps 4 times. It is especially hemorrhoidal to change the right one.
- changing oil and filters according to the maintenance schedule.

Essence of the question: Which is better Kia Sportage or Renault Duster?

I'm going to buy a new car. Initially considered: Renault Duster, Nissan Qashqai, Kia Sportage. I can’t handle the Qashqai, it’s already painfully expensive, and reviews of ownership also say that it’s expensive! I also looked at the Mitsubishi ASX, but it is small and not awkward.

In general, I choose between Kia and Renault, which is better to buy?

Kia Sportage or Renault Duster (pros and cons)

Duster or Sportage

I'll write a few reasons for Duster.

  1. Duster is cheaper.
  2. Duster is taller.
  3. I personally find it more comfortable to sit in the Duster, it has more space.
  4. The suspension on the Duster is stiffer, but I like it better.
  5. If you are a hunter or fisherman, then there is only Duster or Chevrolet Niva.

For Sportage.

  1. I like the filling of Sportage, it beeps when you leave the markings, where else in this price range will there be such chips?

More will be added in the future from the comments!

Expert opinion

The following two tabs change content below.

I own a Renault Megane 2, before that there were Citroens and Peugeots. I work in the service area of a dealership, so I know the car inside and out. You can always contact me for advice.

Those who are planning to purchase a crossover mainly think about which engine to choose (gasoline or diesel). Choosing a car brand can also often become a problem. It is often found among novice car enthusiasts. To decide between the KIA Sportage and Renault Duster, you need to know the features of these cars, which will be discussed below.

Engines of both cars

Under the hood is a Renault Duster 1.6 engine with 114 hp.

Not long ago, a new product from a French manufacturer appeared on the domestic automobile market. This is Renault Duster. It is relatively inexpensive and is equipped with diesel and gasoline engines. The engine has a volume of 1.5 liters and 90 hp. It works in tandem with a manual transmission. It has both front and rear wheel drive.

The gasoline engine is a 1.6-liter unit with a power of 102 hp. Such a car will cost a little less than with.

Under the hood of the diesel Duster there are 109 horsepower

But the presence of a diesel unit in Duster is not exactly a competitive advantage, since the KIA Sportage is equipped with a 177 (!) horsepower, 2.0-liter engine running on a diesel engine.

Why Duster?

This car is popular in the CIS countries. It has the best price-quality ratio. The driver can also choose a car with any engine and drive (front-wheel drive only or).

When choosing, you should also take into account the appearance of the car.

Salon editorial Renault Duster

For example, Duster has a large interior and an unusual body design. The inside of the car is also comfortable even in the basic configuration. The large luggage compartment allows you to place cargo comfortably. Its volume is 475 liters. If, then the volume increases to 1630 liters. The car holds the road well on the highway and can easily move on small off-road terrain.

Why Kia Sportage?

After the hegemony of Asian crossovers ended in the early 2000s, cars of European brands are gaining good ratings and are already serious competitors. This article will talk about how to choose between Kia Sportage or Renault Duster.

general information

Kia cars are manufactured in Korea. Korean production has long established itself as high-quality machines that meet all consumer requirements.

Renault is produced in France, and also has considerable competitiveness.

Most consumers already have a formed opinion about automakers; some prefer exclusively Korean production, regardless of the existing shortcomings, while others opt for French cars.

Duster or Kia Sportage? This is quite a difficult decision because both cars are very similar. Judging by the time frame of the car being on sale, the Korean, of course, will be the leader over the Frenchman.

Appearance

Looking at the exterior of the cars, we can say that Kia definitely wins over Renault. Renault's design is more reminiscent of the previous 1992 Sportage model. For French designers this is a big minus, since it seems that they have no imagination left. Most clients have no desire to buy an outdated copy of a Korean competitor. In this category, Renault Duster is completely inferior to Kia Sportage. But, since everyone has different tastes, there will be a fan even for such a design.

Inner space

Renault's interior design makes up for all the shortcomings of its appearance. When compared to the Kia's interior design, it beats it in almost every way. The main and significant difference is the functionality of the dashboard; it contains a lot of functions that are not even expected in the Sportage. The Korean, in turn, pleases the eyes of consumers with high-quality interior trim.

A fairly significant criterion when choosing a car is the trunk volume. In Renault Duster it is quite roomy, reaching 408 liters. If you lower the rear seats, it increases to 1570 liters. Kia in its normal form reaches 564 liters, and with the seats folded it increases to 1353 liters.

For people who often use it to transport a large number of things, the Renault Duster will be an ideal option.

Comparison of technical characteristics

Basic comparison of Kia Sportage and Renault Duster by technical characteristics:

  • Octane value. It should be noted that Kia needs to be refueled with 95-octane gasoline, while Renault Duster can function well on 92-octane. This allows owners to save a lot of personal money.
  • Transmission. Both crossovers have all-wheel drive, but have different transmissions. Renault has a six-speed manual transmission, and the Sportage has a six-speed automatic transmission.
  • Engine power. The Sportage has 150 horsepower, while the Duster has 143.
  • Engine capacity. It is almost the same for the cars being compared. The Renault Duster engine is 1.5 liters, while the Sportage has 1.6 liters.
  • Weight. Sportage has a weight of 1474 kg, Duster has a weight of 1190 kg. This difference in weight gives the French crossover an advantage in driving dynamics. It is much easier to accelerate than the Kia.
  • Maximum speed. In this category, Kia wins as it has a speed of 191 km/h, while the Duster is limited to 180 km/h. Of course, these are not significant indicators, but for some they are quite important.
  • Fuel consumption. The most expensive car in terms of gasoline is Kia. If we compare the mixed type of driving, then the Korean crossover has a consumption of 8.3 liters, while for Renault it is 7.8 liters.

Options

Sportage Renault Duster cars have many different modifications.

The manufacturer Renault produces several types of drives, such as front-wheel drive, all-wheel drive with connectivity and regular all-wheel drive.

The connected drive is a button with which the rear wheels are connected to the front wheels to help.

The Renault car has five types of trim levels:

  • Basic Authentique. It has a gasoline engine with a volume of 1.6 liters and a power of 102 horsepower. There is both an all-wheel drive system and front-wheel drive; the transmission can be either manual or automatic.

It has three engine sizes. The smallest is a diesel engine with a volume of 1.5 liters and a power of 90 horses, available only with all-wheel drive. The gearbox can be automatic or manual. Next come larger gasoline-based engines with volumes of 1.6 and 2.0 liters. The largest of all has 135 horsepower with front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive options.

  • LE Adventure. This equipment is made for driving on Russian roads. It has 2 engine sizes with all-wheel drive. 1.6 and 2.0 liters with capacities of 102 and 135 horses. The 1.6-liter model includes a six-speed manual gearbox. Another model, which is produced with a 2.0 liter capacity, has a manual and automatic transmission.
  • Privilege is completely similar to the Expression package.
  • Luxe Privilege. This equipment is produced only with a 2.0 liter gasoline engine. There are both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. Transmission is automatic and manual.
  • Kia Sportage has 5 configuration options:

The Classic package is basic and has quite a rich content. It contains ABS, airbags for both driver and passenger, air conditioning, and 16-inch wheels. Essentially, it has everything you need for a comfortable ride.

The most standard configuration of the Kia Premium crossover is available only with all-wheel drive. The range of options in it is many times greater. Of these, there is climate control, 4 airbags, a rear view camera, curtain airbags, leather upholstery, and 18-inch wheels. With this configuration, the owner will fully feel what a comfortable ride and luxury are.

When choosing the car of their dreams, every person focuses primarily on the price category. After all, not everyone can afford an expensive car. The average price of Sportage for 2017 was 1,150,000 rubles, while Duster can be purchased for only 650,000 rubles.

Kia Sportage or Renault Duster, which is better?

The Renault and Kia cars being compared have much in common, but each has unique qualities.

Duster has won the attention of consumers with its affordability and quality characteristics. Even with minimal equipment, you can feel increased comfort inside the car. The car is quite easy to drive and copes well off-road. The trunk, compared to the Sportage, has increased capacity, which is an additional advantage of the car.

The advantage of the Kia Sportage is all-wheel drive. But, as practice shows, cross-country ability does not improve from this when compared with Duster. This car is well suited for city trips, as gasoline consumption when traveling on the highway increases significantly.

It is always difficult to choose a car, Kia Sportade or Renault Duster, which is best for the buyer to decide.

Review of Renault Duster 1.6i 4WD (Renault) 2013

Renault Duster 1.6 Expression 4x4. Purchased exclusively for work trips. I would like to immediately inform everyone present that buying a Duster for yourself, that is, only with what you really need, is a difficult task. They will definitely impose on you additional supplements that you, in principle, do not need and at the same time they are prohibitively expensive, but “either you take them with additional supplements or wait a year.” It’s up to you to decide whether to put up with this formulation of the question or do something. Personally, I, a Chelyabinsk resident, flew to buy a Duster in St. Petersburg, because only there I found what I needed in stock and at a fair price (Expression, all-wheel drive, two airbags, heated seats, air conditioning - without extra ashtrays for 1000 rubles and an alarm for 26,000). True, the color was red, but it could also have been blue. Having received the keys and a little later, looking for the nearest gas station on Vasilievsky Island, I could not even imagine that in six months I would have to get to Krasnoyarsk with this unit, and also visit Kemerovo and Novokuznetsk with it (photos in the attachment).

Looking ahead, I will say that in relation to the Duster, I would change the word “reliable” to the word “tenacious”. This is one hell of a unit. You can miss a hole at a speed of 130 km/h somewhere near Omsk, or fill him with donkey urine by mistake somewhere near Samara - he will feel bad, but he will not give up and will pull you out. Naturally, I in no way encourage checking this, looking for donkey urine and catching holes on purpose. It’s just that in the vastness of our Motherland, each of us can find ourselves in similar, or even worse, situations.

The first thing that puzzled me was that the Duster asked me to enter the “radio code” to turn on the radio. For a long time I could not understand what was needed from me. The radio code is four numbers that are written in the service book in small print on some random page. Personally, it cost me a whole day of silence in the form of entertainment - “the only sounds are conversations with my wife.” Two people with higher technical education (my wife and I) could not find the reason why the radio is dynamite for us? I had to go to a service center in Novgorod, and they themselves spent a long time looking for it, calling St. Petersburg. Who came up with this radio code and why? They say a similar system was implemented on old Focuses.

    Strengths:

    • Unrealistically tenacious
    • Suspension
    • Head optics
    • European 4x4 car at a good price
    • Very warm in winter

    Weak sides:

    • Emission engine
    • Ergonomic blunders
    • Aerodynamics of a freight car

Review of Renault Duster 2.0i 4WD (Renault) 2013

Traveled 12900 km. Before this there was Duster’s grandfather - Renault Scenic RX4 2000. I constantly compare Duster with it. In my perception, the RX4 was better than the Duster (except for the fact that it had a viscous coupling). Against this background, I came up with the following theory for myself: They created a good budget car “Daster” and were horrified, who would then buy Kaleos and Nissan? And it began: Let’s remove the thermometer, now we’ll make seat heating switches on the sides of the seats - let them learn to press the keys by touch. We will move the mirror rotation button to an inconvenient place. Soooo, what else could I do? We will make a gas tank cap without a chain and on a turnkey basis - let the driver hold it in her hands at the gas station. The pockets in the doors need to be made so that it would be inconvenient to even put a bottle there. We'll remove the trim from the trunk and let the tuning companies make money. What can you come up with outside? We'll make the mudguards purely symbolic - let the car be up to the mirrors in mud after the first puddle. Something like this.

I really don't like Duster's ass. There are some inappropriate bulges at the back of the lights, bevels at the top. A rectangular rear would have made the car look much more impressive.

Already at minus 1, you should turn off the rear window heating - it immediately freezes. On other cars this problem did not exist at all.

    Strengths:

    ground clearance, all-wheel drive

I think in the future there will be a minimum of problems during repairs due to the mass production and availability of spare parts

    Weak sides:

    ergonomics, interior

Review of Renault Duster 1.6i 4WD (Renault) 2013 Part 2

In the first part of the review, I forgot to mention some important things that I didn’t have time for the first time. Having spent part of my life behind the wheel of this car, it is very difficult to objectively describe the positive and negative aspects, it is very difficult to admit to yourself and others that your choice is not ideal, but I will still try to be objective.

In addition to the main disadvantage - the 1.6 engine, the Duster has another important disadvantage - the brakes. Moreover, brakes in a broad sense - the entire braking system, including ABS. Braking in sharp city traffic is a test, emergency braking on the highway is a thriller. Either there is no desired reduction in speed, or there is an unexpected crackling sound from the ABS. The ABS on the Duster is primitive, you should not rely on these big letters, in some cases it increases the braking distance instead of reducing it, once in the winter I ran a red light due to the ABS. In winter, it works unexpectedly and feels like it completely turns off the braking system. You can install ESP on Duster for 13,000 rubles, I can’t say anything, I don’t have it, but most likely ESP on Duster is also useless.

Unfortunately, that's not all. In addition to the low-power but voracious engine (highway consumption 9-11 liters), a 55-liter tank is attached. With such appetites, this turns out to be damned how little! On the road from Novosibirsk to Chelyabinsk, I stopped every 400-450 km.

    Strengths:

    • Overall tank survivability
    • Suspension
    • Headlight
    • 4x4 for reasonable money
