Volkswagen Tiguan quality, Russian assembly. Volkswagen has launched mass production of the new Tiguan. Who assembles the Volkswagen Tiguan and are there any flaws?

The stylish compact crossover Tiguan from Volkswagen has not lost popularity for almost ten years. The 2017 model brings even more style, comfort, safety and hi-tech.

Volkswagen Tiguan model range

The compact crossover VW Tiguan (from the words Tiger - “tiger” and Leguane - “iguana”) first rolled off the assembly line and was presented to the general public at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2007.

Volkswagen Tiguan I (2007–2011)

The first generation VW Tiguan was assembled on the rather popular Volkswagen PQ35 platform. This platform has proven itself in a number of models not only from Volkswagen, but also from Audi, Skoda, and SEAT.

Tiguan I had a laconic and, as some car enthusiasts noted, too boring design for its price. Quite rigid contours, a nondescript straight radiator grille, and plastic edging on the sides gave the car a rustic look. The interior was also discreet, with gray plastic and fabric trim.

The VW Tiguan I was equipped with two types of gasoline engines (volume 1.4 and 2.0 liters and power, respectively, 150 hp and 170 hp) or diesel (volume 2.0 liters and power 140 hp). .). All power units were paired with a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.

Volkswagen Tiguan I, restyling (2011–2016)

In 2011, the corporate style of Volkswagen changed, and with it the appearance of the VW Tiguan. The crossover has become more reminiscent of its older brother - the VW Touareg. A “stern look” appeared due to LED inserts in the headlights, a raised bumper, a more aggressive radiator grille with chrome strips, and large wheels (16–18 inches).

The interior of the cabin has not undergone any significant changes and remains classically laconic with finishing made of high-quality fabric and plastic.

For rear seat passengers, the new model features cup holders and folding tables, a 12-volt power outlet, and even separate climate control vents.

The updated Tiguan was equipped with all the engines of the previous version and a number of new power units. The line of engines looked like this:

  1. Gasoline engine with a volume of 1.4 liters and a power of 122 hp. With. at 5000 rpm, paired with a six-speed manual transmission. Acceleration time to 100 km/h - 10.9 seconds. Fuel consumption in mixed mode is about 5.5 liters per 100 km.
  2. 1.4 liter petrol engine with two turbochargers, working with a six-speed manual gearbox or the same robot. Versions are available with both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. The car accelerates to 100 km/h in 9.6 seconds with a fuel consumption of 7–8 liters per 100 km.
  3. 2.0 liter petrol engine with direct injection. Depending on the boost level, the power is 170 or 200 hp. s., and the acceleration time to 100 km/h is 9.9 or 8.5 seconds, respectively. The unit is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and consumes about 10 liters of fuel per 100 km.
  4. 2.0 liter petrol engine with two turbochargers, capable of generating power up to 210 hp. With. The car accelerates to 100 km/h in just 7.3 seconds with a fuel consumption of 8.6 liters per 100 km.
  5. 2.0 liter diesel engine with a power of 140 hp. pp., paired with automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. Acceleration to 100 km/h takes 10.7 seconds, and average fuel consumption is 7 liters per 100 km.

Volkswagen Tiguan II (2016 to present)

The VW Tiguan II went on sale earlier than it was officially introduced.

If in Europe the first people who wanted to could buy an SUV were already on September 2, 2015, then the official premiere of the car took place only on September 15 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The new Tiguan was also produced in sports versions - GTE and R-Line.

The appearance of the car has become more aggressive and modern due to an enlarged air intake, decorative moldings and alloy wheels. Many useful systems have appeared, such as a driver fatigue sensor. It is no coincidence that in 2016 the VW Tiguan II was recognized as the safest compact crossover.

Several types of power units are installed on the car:

  • petrol with a volume of 1.4 liters and a power of 125 hp. With.;
  • petrol with a volume of 1.4 liters and a power of 150 hp. With.;
  • petrol with a volume of 2.0 liters and a power of 180 hp. With.;
  • petrol with a volume of 2.0 liters and a power of 220 hp. With.;
  • diesel with a volume of 2.0 liters and a power of 115 hp. With.;
  • diesel with a volume of 2.0 liters and a power of 150 hp. With.;
  • diesel with a volume of 2.0 liters and a power of 190 hp. With.;
  • diesel with a volume of 2.0 liters and a power of 240 hp. With. (top version).

VW Tiguan 2017: features, innovations and advantages

The 2017 VW Tiguan is superior to its predecessors in many ways. Powerful and economical 150 hp engine. With. consumes about 6.8 liters of fuel per 100 km, which allows you to travel up to 700 km on one fill-up. The Tiguan accelerates to 100 km/h in 9.2 seconds (for the first generation model in the basic version this time was 10.9 seconds).

In addition, the cooling system has been improved. Thus, a liquid cooling circuit was added to the oil circuit, and in the new version the turbine could be cooled autonomously after the engine was stopped. As a result, its resource has noticeably increased - it can last as long as the engine itself.

The main “feature” in the design of the new Tiguan was the panoramic sliding roof, and the ergonomic dashboard and many auxiliary systems made it possible to get maximum driving pleasure.

The 2017 VW Tiguan is equipped with a three-season Air Care Climatronic climate control system with an anti-allergen filter. At the same time, the driver, front and rear passengers can independently regulate the temperature in their part of the cabin. Also noteworthy is the Composition Color audio system with a 6.5-inch diagonal color display.

The car has an even higher level of safety than previous versions. A front distance control system and an automatic braking function have appeared, and 4MOTION permanent all-wheel drive has become responsible for improved traction.

How and where is VW Tiguan assembled?

The main production facilities of the Volkswagen concern for the assembly of the VW Tiguan are located in Wolfsburg (Germany), Kaluga (Russia) and Aurangabad (India).

The plant in Kaluga, located in the Grabtsevo technology park, produces the VW Tiguan for the Russian market. In addition, it produces Volkswagen Polo and Skoda Rapid. The plant began operating in 2007, and on October 20, 2009, production of VW Tiguan and Skoda Rapid cars was launched. In 2010, Volkswagen Polo began to be produced in Kaluga.

A special feature of the Kaluga plant is the maximum automation of processes and minimal human participation in the assembly process - cars are assembled mainly by robots. Up to 225 thousand cars a year roll off the assembly line of the Kaluga automobile plant.

Production of the updated VW Tiguan 2017 was launched in November 2016. Especially for this purpose, a new body shop with an area of 12 thousand m2 was built, and the painting and installation shops were updated. Investments in modernization of production amounted to about 12.3 billion rubles. The new Tiguans became the first Volkswagen cars produced in Russia with a panoramic glass roof.

Choice of VW Tiguan engine: gasoline or diesel

When choosing a new car, the future car owner must make a choice between a gasoline and diesel engine. Historically, gasoline engines are more popular in Russia, while diesel motorists are treated with distrust and even caution. Nevertheless, the latter have a number of undoubted advantages:

  1. Diesel engines are more economical. Diesel fuel consumption is 15–20% lower than gasoline consumption. Moreover, until recently, diesel fuel cost significantly less than gasoline. Now the prices for both types of fuel are equal.
  2. Diesel engines are less harmful to the environment. Therefore, they are widely popular in Europe, where environmental problems and, in particular, harmful emissions into the atmosphere receive great attention.
  3. Diesels have a longer service life compared to gasoline engines. The fact is that diesel engines have a stronger and more rigid cylinder-piston group, and diesel fuel itself partly acts as a lubricant.

On the other hand, diesel engines also have disadvantages:

  1. Diesel engines are noisier due to high pressure during fuel combustion. This problem can be solved by increasing sound insulation.
  2. Diesel engines are afraid of low temperatures, which significantly complicates their operation in the cold season.

Historically, gasoline engines are considered more powerful (although modern diesel engines are almost as powerful). At the same time, they consume more fuel and work better at low temperatures.

You need to start with a goal. What do you want: to enjoy the car or save money? I understand that it’s both at the same time, but it doesn’t happen that way. What kind of runs? If it’s less than 25-30 thousand a year and mainly in the city, then you won’t get any noticeable savings from diesel, but if it’s more, then there will be savings.

When deciding to buy a new car, it is advisable to sign up for a test drive - this will help you make the best choice.

Serial production of the new Volkswagen Tiguan has begun at the Kaluga automobile plant of the Volkswagen Group, the company announced. This is a full cycle release - welding, painting, assembly. Investments amounted to 180 million euros (12.3 billion rubles at the current Central Bank exchange rate). The money was used to update the paint and assembly shops and build a new body shop with an area of 12,000 square meters. m - its capacity can be used for other models, a representative of the Volkswagen Group in Russia told Vedomosti.

For comparison: in the project to increase the production capacity of the plant " Toyota Motor"in St. Petersburg and the launch of the Toyota RAV4, more than 9.7 billion rubles were invested in preparing the production of the Hyundai Creta at the St. Petersburg plant " Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Rus» – $100 million (6.4 billion rubles at the current Central Bank exchange rate).

“Significant investments in the production of the new Tiguan confirm our long-term commitment to the Russian market,” says Volkswagen Group Rus CEO Markus Ozegovich, whose words are quoted in the company’s announcement. Taking into account the project to produce the new Tiguan, the total investments of the German automaker in the Kaluga plant amounted to 1.18 billion euros, in all Russian projects - 1.68 billion euros.

What is inside

The new Tiguan is equipped with petrol and diesel engines with power ranging from 125 to 220 hp. s., has options with all-wheel drive and front-wheel drive. The basic configuration includes, among other things, the Front Assist front distance control system with the City Emergency Braking function and the Multicollision Brake emergency braking system.

The new Tiguan has received a global modular platform with a transverse engine, which allows saving on the unification of components, increasing the trunk, reducing the weight of the car, etc. The Skoda Octavia, produced in Nizhny Novgorod at GAZ facilities, already has the same platform, a Volkswagen representative said.

The automaker promises to begin deliveries of the new Tiguan to dealers in the first quarter of 2017. Prices are not disclosed. The current generation Tiguan costs from RUB 1,329,000. Competitors will most likely remain the same, says Sergei Udalov, executive director of Avtostat: RAV4 (from RUB 1,299,000), Nissan X-Trail (from RUB 1,409,000). At the first stage, both generations will be sold on the market, the company said. “For some time” both models will be produced at the plant in parallel, a Volkswagen representative told Vedomosti. He did not specify the timing. A similar approach was previously used, for example, by the French Renault in relation to Logan, but using different sites: the new generation was produced at AvtoVAZ (production continues now), and the previous one at the Moscow plant of the French automaker. With the help of parallel production and sales, Volkswagen will use the remaining components for the previous generation Tiguan in production, sell the remaining finished cars, and support overall sales of the model during the transition period, comments Udalov. According to the top manager of one of the dealer companies, sales of the previous generation Tiguan are planned to be completed by the end of the first quarter of 2017. According to him, there is no overstocking, dealer inventories are at the level of two months of sales.

In October 2016, 1,451 Tiguans were sold in Russia – this is 20% of all sales of Volkswagen passenger cars. This is the second best-selling model of the Volkswagen brand in Russia after the Polo sedan (also produced in Kaluga) based on October results, according to AEB data. The representative did not disclose how many new Tiguans Volkswagen plans to produce and sell in 2016 and 2017. Most likely, overall sales of the new Tiguan will gradually reach the level of the current generation, Udalov predicts: it all depends on the price. In October, according to AEB data, Volkswagen ranked 6th in sales in Russia. The crossover segment is the second largest in the Russian market (after the B-segment) and its share is growing: at the end of 10 months of 2016 it amounted to 38.44%, a year earlier – 35.8%, according to Autostat data. The entire passenger car market shrank by 14.1%. Automakers and officials hope that in 2017 the market will stabilize thanks to government support.

Since April 6, 2017, a restyled version of the popular Tiguan crossover with an engine capacity of 1.4 liters (125 hp) has become available in Volkswagen dealer showrooms. Since sales of the car in Russia were announced back in December 2016, fans of this popular automobile manufacturer had the opportunity to place a pre-order and now receive the new Volkswagen Tiguan 2017 in the desired configuration and color.

The cost of the new Volkswagen Tiguan will cost users 1,459,000 rubles. For those who want to get a version with 4Motion all-wheel drive, you will have to fork out a price of 1,659,000 rubles. In addition, this price provides buyers with the opportunity to choose a manual transmission or automatic transmission.

Buying a new Volkswagen Tiguan is an excellent solution in terms of price and quality for both the younger generation and experienced drivers. Every car enthusiast will be able to find for himself a certain set of advantages that will be decisive in choosing a car.

How the updated Volkswagen Tiguan crossovers appeared

Over its ten-year history, more than 2.6 million cars of this brand have rolled off the assembly line. More than half of them were assembled directly in Wallsburg, where the company's main production facilities are located. In addition, the production of Volkswagen Tiguan 2017 cars is located in the Chinese city of Anqing (Anting), and in the Russian Kaluga, where a separate conveyor line has been launched since 2009.

The model name was chosen based on a survey among readers of Auto Bild magazine. It consists of two German words Tiger (Tiger) and Leguan (Iguana) symbolizing at the same time power, ease of driving in congested city traffic and the ability to park, regardless of the congestion of parking lots and lots.

The 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan was first presented back in 2015 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Since April 2016, the updated Tiguan appeared in the showrooms of German car dealers, and six months later, on November 21, the assembly of these cars started at the Volkswagen Group Rus plant in Kaluga.

The official start of sales of the Volkswagen Tiguan 2017 and the announcement of prices for the Russian market were announced on December 16, 2016, and deliveries of the cars themselves to car dealerships in the country began on January 18. It is worth noting that by the end of the month, 213 cars of this brand were sold, and on January 31, the first car was delivered to the buyer.

According to statistics provided by the Association of European Businesses, in January-February of this year, the new Volkswagen Tiguan ranks 19th in the sales ranking, with 3,029 cars sold.

Sales of the new Tiguan have significantly increased the overall demand for Volkswagen cars in our country. If last season 10,660 cars of this model were sold in Russia, then in the first quarter of 2017, Russian car dealers were able to sell 5,047 Tiguan crossovers of the first and second generation.

2017 Volkswagen Tiguan crossover design

The visual characteristics of the new Volkswagen Tiguan, presented in 2017, were developed by famous specialists, under the guidance of the company's leading engineer, designer Klaus Bischoff. The result far exceeded the expectations of car enthusiasts and the developers themselves. The body of the new model has increased in length and width, while the height of the car has decreased, which has a positive effect on its aerodynamic qualities.

One of the main innovations that the new Volkswagen Tiguan 2017 received was a modular platform system with a transverse engine, known to car enthusiasts as MQB. This made it possible to significantly improve the expressiveness and proportionality of the lines, adding aggressiveness and swiftness to the main features of the body.

The new Volkswagen Tiguan 2017 has been repeatedly awarded with international awards for its unique and original design. So in October 2016, the design of the model was awarded the German Design Award for the fifth time, which is one of the most authoritative expert assessments in the world.

Among the actual updates to the car's exterior are:

  • availability of 17-inch “Montana” wheels;
  • spectacular black roof rails;
  • the presence of LED headlights;
  • in the top-end assembly, the 2017-2018 Volkswagen Tiguan can be equipped with chrome trim on body parts.

Interior of the updated Volkswagen Tiguan

The designers also paid attention to the interior design of the car. The main visual update concerns the center console, which is slightly tilted towards the driver. This provides excellent access to controls and greatly simplifies the process of adjusting various vehicle systems.

The 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan is equipped with an effective system of adjustable LED lights that can ensure visibility of all elements for entering and driving the car at any time of the day. In addition, for complete convenience of the driver and passengers, a heated seat and glass system is implemented here.

The seats, which are adjustable in 14 directions, deserve special attention. The presence of the ergoActive system with a massage function can provide complete comfort and convenience even on long trips. The 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan has grown significantly. The luggage compartment volume is now 615 liters, and with the rear seats folded down it can expand to 1655 liters, which is 145 liters more than its predecessor.

Technical features of Tiguan 2017 model year

The basic parameters of the new version of the 2017 Tiguan are:

  • clearance 20.0 cm;
  • length 448.6 cm;
  • width (without mirrors) 183.9 cm;
  • height 167.3 cm;
  • wheelbase 267.7 mm.

In addition, the technical characteristics of the crossover include 5 engines - 4 gasoline Euro 6 and one diesel Euro 5. The volume of power units ranges from 1.4 to 2.0 liters, and the power ranges from 125 to 220 hp.

Choice of equipment

Trendline

The basic version of the new Tiguan model is the most affordable. This modification is equipped with 1.4 liter (125 hp) engines equipped with turbocharging. The technical characteristics of this engine allow it to work in tandem with a six-speed manual or similar automatic transmission. Regardless of the gearbox, a Tiguan with a 125 hp engine does not have all-wheel drive, and for those who want to get 4Motion equipment, they will have to order a car with a 150-horsepower power unit, 1.4 liter capacity and be content with a manual transmission.

The cost of the basic version of this car starts at 1,459,000 rubles.

Comfortline

In this configuration, your new Tiguan crossover can be equipped with either a gasoline or diesel power unit. You can choose the technical specifications you need, between the 4Motion all-wheel drive version with an automatic transmission, paired with a 1.4-liter engine with a power of 150 hp, or a two-liter diesel engine of similar power. For those who want to get even more, a two-liter engine with 180 hp, equipped with a 7-speed automatic transmission, becomes available in this configuration.

Optionally, the Comfortline can be equipped with a panoramic roof, a navigation system or an electric trunk.

Prices for Tiguan in the Comfortline configuration start at 1,559,000 rubles.

Highline

The top version of the Tiguan crossover can technically be equipped with a 2.0 liter engine with a power of 220 hp. This power unit is capable of accelerating the car to 100 km per hour in a record 6.5 seconds.

Vehicles from this manufacturer have already gained quite wide popularity among domestic car owners. At the same time, many of them are interested in such a question as where is the Volkswagen Tiguan assembled for Russia?

Before talking about where the Tiguan is assembled for Russia, it is worth saying that such a car is perfect for domestic roads. Among the main advantages of the model are:

  • good car power;
  • durability of main components;
  • wide choice of modifications;
  • attractive appearance;
  • enhanced security systems, etc.

All these parameters are influenced not only by the quality of parts and assembly, but also by the place where the new Tiguan is assembled.

Countries of production and assembly Volkswagen Tiguan 2017

Since modern golf platforms are used in the production of a car, not all factories have the machinery and equipment necessary for the production of this model of vehicle. First of all, answering the question of where the Tiguan is assembled, it is necessary to highlight Germany. This assembly is considered to be the highest quality, reliable and durable. But in reality, this statement will not always be true. After all, the quality of assembly is, first of all, influenced by the components themselves that are used to produce such cars, as well as the qualifications of the specialists who are engaged in this work.

Another European country where the new Volkswagen Tiguan 2017 is assembled is France. The production there is equipped with the latest technology, and as a result, the machines are of high quality. It is worth noting that cars from there do not enter our market. So it is important to find out where Volkswagen Tiguans are produced for sale on the domestic vehicle market.

Where is Volkswagen Tiguan produced for Russia?

Such vehicles come to domestic motorists from a Russian plant. If you want to know where the new Tiguan 2017 is assembled, its production facilities are located in Kaluga. The plant has been operating since 2007. It is interesting to note that this car model is probably one of the very first SUVs that began to be assembled directly in our country.

The plant has modern workshops with the latest equipment. As a result, a car comes off the assembly line of exactly the same quality as in the case of a German or French assembly. Robots are used to perform the work, thus reducing the likelihood of human error.

Features of production Tiguan 2017, which is assembled for Russia

This car model is ideal for domestic conditions (including roads with fairly poor surface quality). At the same time, domestic analogues have some differences that distinguish them from European cars. First of all, it is worth noting the increased ground clearance. Thus, the car was adapted to the characteristics of domestic roads. Thanks to this fact, both the driver and passengers will be comfortable in the cabin, even while driving over bumps.

It is worth noting that the model turns out to be truly reliable and of high quality. Thanks to the 1.4-liter engine, it has a power of 150 horsepower. If any, even the most minor, defect is detected, the car is immediately removed from the assembly line and then sent for recycling. As a result, there is no doubt about the functionality and reliability of such a machine.

Many, after finding out where the Volkswagen Tiguan is made, begin to believe that such cars are somewhat inferior to their European counterparts. At the same time, having personally tried yourself behind the wheel of this vehicle, it is difficult not to respect the domestic assembly. As a result, you can rest assured of the high quality of such cars.

The Volkswagen Tiguan is a compact crossover that has been produced since 2007. The 2nd generation of Tiguan was recently released, and on the secondary market there are many offers for the sale of the 1st generation Tiguan. We'll find out now whether it's worth buying a used Volkswagen Tiguan. Tiguans appeared in Russia in mid-2008; the cars were assembled in Kaluga. If at first these cars were assembled using large-knot SKD technology, then after 2010 in Kaluga they already produced cars using the full cycle - CKD, and the bodies were welded and painted there.

The build quality is the same as what the Germans assembled as ours. Of course, there were a couple of nuances, for example, the side doors were poorly adjusted, and also the trunk door was crooked, but after a few months we learned to do everything as it should. So, the oldest cars had to be recalled for service in order to replace some bolts and put them on sealant. If this is not done, the driveshaft could become loose.

Salon

The interior is quite high quality, the materials look almost like new after many years of use, everything of course depends on the previous owner. But it happens that even the door trim can begin to creak while driving.

On Tiguans produced from 2008 to 2009, the wiring had to be repaired under warranty: the wire that comes from the antifreeze temperature sensor was broken, so the fan worked constantly. There is also a harness that goes to the engine control unit; it is poorly secured, so it could burn, which would make the car immobile.

There have also been cases of headlights going out on their own on cars manufactured before 2011. This situation was corrected in 2013. The problem was in the fuse or switch box, which is located under the hood. But the body is well protected from corrosion, the only weak point is on the trunk door; rust may appear on the lower edge.

Over time, purely cosmetic flaws appear, some of which you won’t even notice right away, for example, a hood soundproofing sheet can sag after just a few years, and if you wash the engine carelessly, this sheet will come off completely. At dealership centers, they changed the clip holders, or completely replaced the soundproofing lining. The appearance can be spoiled by a peeling radiator grille, door trims, and paint peeling off the side mirrors and bumpers. By the way, if chips appear, they must be painted over as soon as possible, because the remaining paint may begin to peel off.

Traditionally, door locks and the heater motor, which already begins to make a lot of noise after 3 years of using the car, are considered weak points. A new motor like this costs 130 euros, but for the first time you can simply lubricate the bearing.

The Tiguan has an RNS radio navigation system manufactured by Continental, it lasts a long time and does not fail, so if it happens that it cannot be controlled using the buttons on the steering wheel, then this means that you need to change the contacts on the steering column for 120 euros, because that because of them the signal and airbag may stop working.

The very first Russian-assembled cars were equipped with a 1.4-liter engine with a power of 150 hp. With. There are 25% of cars on the market with this engine. The engine is economical, but pulls well, the car accelerates quite quickly. But reliability is not all that good.

The liquid intercooler becomes dirty over time. So, if you apply a high load, the piston group will wear out faster, the bridges between the rings may burn out, and the pistons will be destroyed, especially the 2nd and 3rd ones. Overhaul of this motor is quite expensive - 2500 euros, so it is better to look for a disassembled motor somewhere.

In 2011, there was a restyling and the 1.4 TSI engine began to be installed in Tiguans - this is a modernized version of the same engine. The power remained the same, only the pistons were strengthened, so the engine became more reliable.

But some problems with the engine still remained. For example, fuel injection pumps and injectors are sensitive to fuel; if you fill in low-quality fuel at least once, you will have to pay 260 euros for a new high-pressure fuel pump, and 150 euros for each injector. After 100,000 km. mileage, the pump, which costs 350 euros, may begin to leak. The chain in the timing drive can stretch by approximately 60,000. The chain itself costs 70 euros plus the cost of labor. Therefore, in order not to have to overhaul the motor, it is better in advance, as soon as rattling or clicking noises appear, to immediately check the condition of the chain and change it. But definitely after 100,000 km. it needs to be changed.

In general, all these problems are typical for Tiguan gasoline engines. The engine has a supercharged 1.4 TSI and a power of 122 hp. s., which appeared in 2011, the chain is also not very strong. You also need to remember that it is undesirable to leave a Tiguan with any gasoline engine on a hill without a handbrake; starting it with a pusher is also a big risk, because the chain can jump over the teeth, especially when it is approaching. In general, you need to be careful with the chain.

But the real reason for oil consumption is the oil scraper piston rings and the poor efficiency of the valve in the crankcase ventilation system. On cars produced after 2011, the design of valves, rings, seals was improved, the program in the ECU was improved, after all these innovations, oil consumption decreased by 2 times, but still remained.

But there are also diesel engines, they are installed on 20% of cars, these engines cause fewer problems for their owners - they do not eat oil, there is no chain. The only thing is that from driving around the city at low speed and when driving short distances it can happen after about 70,000 km. require intervention on the EGR valve, a new one costs 150 euros.

You also need to monitor the quality of diesel fuel; here the fuel injection pump is more expensive - 1000 euros. In general, the engine is reliable, but sometimes it happens that after 100,000 km. mileage require replacement of the injector seals, they are inexpensive - 15 euros per set, but you also need to add the cost of work. There are also cases that after 180,000 km. the damper in the intake tract begins to jam, because by this mileage the plastic gear in its drive mechanism wears out. To fix this, you will have to spend 150 euros.

If a situation occurs when a diesel car after 150,000 km. mileage does not start very well, then you need to immediately check the pressure reduction and injection valves of the fuel system. And maintenance should be done not once every 15,000, as the officials recommend, but once every 10,000 km. In general, it is better to buy a Tiguan with a diesel engine, because it is much more reliable than gasoline engines.

Gearboxes

There are different gearboxes - the preselective DQ200 with 2 dry clutches is a robotic gearbox, it is installed on cars with front-wheel drive and a 1.4 TSI engine, the power of which is 150 hp. With. In Europe, this box can also be found on Tiguans with a 1.8 TSI engine. On cars manufactured after 2011, this box began to break down less often, and after 2012 it underwent a serious modernization and there were almost no problems with it.

After 2011, both 6- and 7-speed robots DQ250 and DQ500 appeared; they were installed on all-wheel drive vehicles with 1.4 and 2.0 engines. The weak point in these boxes is considered to be the mechatronic hydraulic control unit. A new unit like this is not cheap - more than 2,000 euros, so for it to last longer - it needs to be done once every 80,000 km. change the oil in the box. ATF DSG goes here.

The most popular transmission is the 6-speed automatic, it is available on approximately 60% of cars. This box is the Aisin Warner TF-60/61SN series, jointly developed in 2003 by Japanese and German engineers. For front-wheel drive Tiguans this gearbox is indexed 09G, and for all-wheel drive Tiguans - 09M. There are no problems with the box, you just need to monitor the purity of the oil and its quality. Officially, the oil in the box does not need to be changed, but it is better to do this once every 80,000 km, then the hydraulic control unit will last longer. If freezes or jolts appear during switching, this is a clear sign that it is time to change the oil in the box. Also, do not forget to monitor the radiator in the gearbox on diesel cars, because sometimes leaks appear.

But the 6-speed manual transmission is considered the most reliable, no matter what engine it works with. The only thing that can happen to it is that the seals leak after about 80,000 km.

The clutch lasts for about 140,000 km, a new set will cost about 400 euros. It happens that at the same mileage the clarity during switching disappears, then you need to check the switching mechanism, it is possible that it is worn out, replacing it will cost 200 euros. On all-wheel drive vehicles, you must remember to change the oil in the Haldex coupling, then the pump will last longer and the all-wheel drive will be in working order. The oil needs to be changed every 60,000 km.

Suspension and chassis

The electric power steering on cars before restyling could simply turn off while driving. Therefore, in 2009, engineers reflashed the electric power steering control unit. But despite this, there have often been cases where steering gear assemblies were replaced on cars manufactured before 2011 under warranty after 30,000 km.

  • It is better not to drive the Tiguan off-road, despite the short overhangs, because the suspension is not particularly designed for these purposes. Approximately 100,000 km. The stabilizer bushings fail, but before that, they can simply creak for a long time. Replacing bushings with stabilizer will cost 140 euros. Approximately 70,000 km. fail:
  • wheel bearings, which together with the hub cost 130 euros;
  • support bearings on the front struts, which cost 50 euros;
