(LIAZ) has been a leader in the production of especially large and large class buses for many years. The company's product line includes more than a dozen models of public transport, including trolleybuses. In 2005, the organization became part of the GAZ Group of Companies, which made it possible to re-equip the production base and organize the assembly of world-class equipment.

Experienced Timber Chemical

The early 1930s became a very tense time for the Soviet Union. Having recovered from the consequences of the civil war, the USSR rushed with all its might to catch up with Western countries. The primary objectives were to build up industrial potential, develop and implement advanced technologies.

In 1933, near Moscow (in the village of Likino-Dulevo), on the site of the future LIAZ plant, it was decided to create an experimental enterprise - the Timber Chemical Plant. At its site it was planned to develop new technologies for the processing and use of wood for the USSR: fiberboard, chipboard, lignostone bars, insulating boards, etc. However, construction was delayed. Only by the fall of 1937 were the main buildings built and equipment installed. The first products were wooden rail supports for the Moscow metro.

War

Before the plant had time to gain momentum, the Great Patriotic War began. Within a few months, fascist troops reached Moscow. The question arose about evacuating the enterprise. The equipment was dismantled and relocated to the Chelyabinsk region under bombing. However, the enemy was soon driven back from the capital, and the echelons returned home.

Through the heroic efforts of mainly women and teenagers (most of the men fought), the work of the plant was restored. Already in February 1942, the production of wooden products for aircraft, balls for producing gunpowder and other products began. For their dedicated work, the team's employees have been awarded medals, orders and memorial signs more than once.

From wood to mechanisms

When most of the USSR was liberated, the government faced a task no less serious than defeating the enemy - restoring the country from ruins. The first step was to significantly increase the production of building materials, the most accessible of which was wood. And to increase the rate of logging, mechanisms and equipment were needed.

In 1944, the Timber Chemical Experimental Plant, taking into account its profile and the experience of its employees, was reconstructed into the Likinsky Machine-Building Plant (LIMZ). Its specialization was the production of machines and units for the logging and woodworking industries: sleeper cutting machines, mobile power plants, skidding winches, motor vehicles, electric saws, spare parts for KT-12 tractors and ZIS vehicles. The company also organized repairs of complex diesel engines.

There will be buses

The 50s were marked by rapid growth of the automobile industry. As cities expanded, the lack of public transport became more acute. This problem was especially relevant for the largest metropolis in the country - Moscow. At the end of the 50s, a decision was made to create a LIAZ bus plant on the basis of LIMZ. The enterprise was located near the capital, and the qualifications of the workers made it possible to produce complex equipment.

In 1958, reconstruction of the plant began for the production of ZIL-158 city passenger buses. “Firstborn” rolled off the assembly line on January 10, 1959. This model was produced until 1970 inclusive. Over 11 years, LIAZ produced 62,290 vehicles.

From copying to own developments

LIAZ developed rapidly. If in 1959 the factory workers produced 213 units of vehicles, then in 1963 5,419 buses were assembled. By the end of the 60s, productivity was over 7,000 vehicles.

However, the team set its sights on more - to create its own model, superior in characteristics to the reliable but outdated ZIL. Having gained some experience, engineers and designers developed an improved version of the large, spacious city bus LIAZ-677. A prototype was released in 1962; after a series of tests and modifications, the first batch was released in 1967.

The model turned out to be extremely successful. In 1972, at the autumn Leipzig fair, it was awarded a Gold Medal, becoming an example for other enterprises of the socialist bloc. It was produced in various versions and modifications until the mid-90s: excursion, urban, suburban, northern version, with gas equipment, and special version (mobile television station). By the end of 1994, 194,356 units had been produced.

Thus, LIAZ-677 became one of the most popular models in the country and was widely used both in the USSR and abroad. For labor achievements, the team received a well-deserved award in 1976 - the Order of the Red Banner of Labor.

Development

Having released an excellent product, the factory workers were not going to rest on their laurels. In the early 80s, a new model was developed - LIAZ-5256. However, for its production it was necessary to carry out technical re-equipment of the LIAZ plant. Reconstruction began in 1985 and lasted until 1991.

Initially, the 5256th model was assembled in a pilot workshop in small batches. In 1985, 14 cars were manufactured. During this time, the main shortcomings were identified and eliminated before the model entered large-scale production. In March 1991, LIAZ-5256 entered the updated main conveyor, becoming the main model of the enterprise.

Hard times

It is surprising that even during the dramatic years of the Second World War, the enterprise only suspended its work for a few months. But at the end of the 20th century, in an era of technological progress and incredible opportunities, the LIAZ plant found itself on the brink of an abyss. After the collapse of the USSR, connections with suppliers of components and customers of finished products represented by municipalities were disrupted. The new government had no time for buses. The situation was aggravated by a fire at the KAMAZ engine production site, and power units stopped arriving in Likino. In 1997, LIAZ was declared bankrupt and external management was introduced.

Fortunately, in 2000, the Ruspromavto auto holding took patronage of the production, and five years later the enterprise became part of the GAZ group of companies. This made it possible to restore and modernize technological equipment. And at the same time, start producing modern, economical and environmentally friendly buses of the new generation.

Products

Today LiAZ produces 20 leading models and about 60 modifications. In 2012, the first electric bus LIAZ-6274 was released as an alternative to large-class buses with gasoline, diesel and gas engines. The vehicle was developed on the basis of the LIAZ-5292 low-floor bus, runs on lithium-ion batteries and is intended for urban transportation. For several years, trolleybuses were produced on the basis of LIAZ vehicles. Today the company is ready to produce them to order.

2013 was a year of new products:

  • Together with partners, a low-floor bus of European level LIAZ-529230 was manufactured. By the way, 30 vehicles of this series were used to service the Sochi Olympic Games in 2014.
  • The first low-floor commuter car with a MAN engine was created.
  • For the first time, a Russian YaMZ engine was installed on the LIAZ-529260 low-floor bus.
  • A new design and interior of the bus of the future has been developed. Among the improvements are new front and rear masks, panoramic glazing, LED headlights, aerodynamic mirrors, curved, ergonomic handrails, and the technology of self-leveling floors was used for the first time in Russia.

In 2014, a new modification of the large class bus LIAZ-529260 with a length of 10.5 m was created. A year later, a promising 9.5-meter middle class model was released. The pride of the factory workers is the comfortable, ultra-modern tourist and intercity buses of the “Cruise” and “Voyage” series. According to the company's corporate policy, in the future new models will be produced under the single GAZ brand, regardless of the place of production, be it in Likino, Pavlov, or Kurgan.

LIAZ plant: reviews

Based on employee reviews, the company is a desirable place to work. After joining the GAZ Group of Companies and the subsequent modernization, the conditions for working activities improved noticeably. Salaries have increased, and all employees are provided with a significant benefits package.

Our partners are also satisfied with the plant’s activities: be they component suppliers or customers. LIAZ pays its contracts on time, avoiding debts. And its products meet the highest standards of quality, convenience and efficiency. By the way, all currently produced buses are equipped with engines of environmental classes Euro-4, Euro-5, and some modifications are equipped with the promising Euro-6 standard.

Where is the LIAZ plant located?

The production facilities of the enterprise are located in a large one in the east of the Moscow region. Administratively it belongs to the Orekhovo-Zuevsky municipal district. The plant is a city-forming plant.

LIAZ plant address: 142600, Russian Federation, Likino-Dulevo city, Kalinina street, 1.

Likinsky Bus Plant is a leading manufacturer of passenger buses in the domestic market. The plant is located in the city of Likino-Dulyovo, Orekhovo - Zuevsky district, Moscow region, on an area of 630,000 sq.m., 172,000 of which is production. Currently, the enterprise is a high-tech complex based on advanced technologies and automation systems. The plant uses both domestic and imported equipment. Examples include such companies as the Italian Jako, the Japanese Nakata, the Austrian Kaltenbach, the German Halbron, Trumbent, Trumatik, etc. The products manufactured at the enterprise meet all the requirements of European standards.

The plant dates back to the distant 30s of the twentieth century. So in 1933, the construction of an experimental wood chemical plant for wood refining, abbreviated as “LOZOD”, began. Its main product range was the production of pressed wood, wood-based products, lignostone, and insulating boards. By 1945, the Timber Chemical Plant was repurposed into a machine-building plant, and received the name Likinsky Machine-Building Plant under the abbreviation “LiMZ”. At that distant time, the main products were: motor vehicles, electric saws, winches, sleeper cutting machines, mobile power plants. In 1959, the assembly of passenger buses of the ZiL 158 type began at the plant, and the name was also changed to the now famous LiAZ. The initial annual production was only 213 buses, but by 1969 it had increased to 7,045 units. Much attention was paid to new developments and tests, which led to the creation in 1967 of a new model of the urban bus LiAZ - 677. For more than 25 years, production of this model and its modifications continued (urban, suburban, northern, excursion, mobile television station and gas-cylinder), and over 200,000 pieces were produced. Due to its characteristics, at the international fair in Leipzig, the bus model LiAZ - 677 was awarded a First Class Diploma and a Gold Medal. The plant was awarded such an award as the Order of the Red Banner of Labor. At the end of the 80s, a new generation bus model called LiAZ-5256 was created. But the difficult economic situation of the 90s did not bypass this advanced enterprise. Decline in production from 1991 to 1996 led to a halt in production, delays in workers' wages and bankruptcy of the enterprise. But already in 1997, management and leadership changed, N.P. came to the position of manager. Adamov. And thanks to the preserved territory and property of the plant, as well as the support of regional authorities, the management managed to restore production.

Currently, the main direction of the enterprise's policy is production automation and equipment fleet renewal. According to management, this should bear fruit. For example, the use of modern automated production systems should interest young promising personnel, as well as automate the process of design and technological preparation in production. Updating and adjusting network infrastructure, telephony and developing a personal website for an enterprise will help change the marketing structure. According to management, the restoration of the plant should take place in three stages - launching production, achieving profitability and “promotion”. The first two stages have already been completed. And for the third there is fertile ground. These are also more attractive prices compared to imported analogues. A bus made from domestic components, which will suit many cities, can be purchased for only 1 million rubles. And excellent quality and service life. And the need to update the bus fleet in the regions, which amounts to approximately 40,000 buses, indicates that there is a demand for these products.

In 2000, the plant began developing new models of city buses. These are the articulated LiAZ 6212 and the suburban LiAZ - 5256 R. The full range of manufactured models is presented below.

Buses for intercity and suburban routes:

  • GolAZ-LiAZ-5256. Designed for intercity transportation. The bus has soft, adjustable seats in various directions and luggage compartments with a volume of 4.5 cubic meters. The total number of seats is 66. The maximum speed is 90 km/h.
  • LiAZ-5256-01. A bus designed for suburban transportation. It has 88 seats, including 44 seats. Maximum speed 75 - 80 km/h.

The following models are produced for urban transportation:

  • LiAZ-6213. The model is indispensable on routes with high passenger traffic, the number of seats is 153, of which 33 are seated.

Models of buses running on alternative fuel:

  • LiAZ-5256.7. It is the sales leader in its class. Designed for suburban and urban routes. Runs on gas fuel. The main advantage of this model is the ability to board/disembark passengers of any category.
  • LiAZ-5292.7 - for urban transportation, has a gas engine.
  • LiAZ-5292. The city bus, which represents a line of hybrid models, runs on alternative fuel (diesel-gas-electricity).
  • LiAZ-6212.7. This model has a gas engine and is intended for urban transportation, the number of seats is 178, of which 33 seats.

It is worth mentioning separately about the special modification for school institutions: LiAZ-525626-20 is equipped with 42 seats for children and a special step for the youngest passengers.

The company also produces trolleybuses: models LiAZ-52802, LiAZ-5280, LiAZ-52803. The capacity of such trolleybuses is about 100 passengers.

Currently, the Likino Bus Plant is a modern enterprise specializing in the production of large urban buses. The use of advanced technologies ensures the production of equipment that meets European standards. To equip the enterprise, modern equipment from well-known companies is used: "Nakata" (Japan), "Jeico" (Italy), "Halbron", "Trumbent" and "Trumatic" (Germany), as well as Swiss and Austrian equipment.

Preparations are underway to launch production of low-floor urban buses.

Economical and clean

Increasingly, in Russian cities you can see buses with signs saying “I am not interested in gasoline, my fuel is gas” and the like. This only says one thing - gas vehicles are becoming more common in our country. And this is good news, because gas cars have minimal impact on the environment, unlike diesel and gasoline cars.

In addition, using compressed natural gas as energy costs consumers less than, say, diesel fuel. Besides LiAZ gas buses have good speed. So what are the advantages of LiAZ gas buses over diesel ones?

Differences

Oddly enough, the differences between diesel buses and gas ones are in traction. When compressed and ignited, diesel fuel produces more energy than gas, providing superior traction. Sufficient to overcome all road obstacles.

Thus, it can be concluded that diesel vehicles are cost-effective in places or cities that are full of hills and generally obstructions. However, within the boundaries of a flat city, diesel vehicles simply pollute the atmosphere with harmful emissions, because here their potential is not fully revealed.

And the use LiAZ gas buses It is more cost-effective in flat areas. Yes, compressed gas provides traction, but let’s be honest, gas buses have a hard time going uphill. Therefore, their use is most effective in megacities - in places with high passenger traffic and the same type of terrain.

Advantages

The advantages of gas passenger vehicles of the Likinsky Automobile Plant over diesel ones have already been mentioned. However, let's look at the differences LiAZ gas buses from analogues of other manufacturers and highlight the main advantages of the technology in question.

So, let's start with the fact that all LiAZ gas buses, and these are 4 models, are equipped with Cummins engines, which have an impressive safety margin of 12 years. This power unit is famous for its economical fuel consumption.

In addition, the construction of LiAZ gas buses uses highly reliable Hungarian Raba axles and imported Allison automatic transmissions. All this makes the gas machines presented in this section truly reliable. Undoubtedly, this equipment will serve you for a long time without requiring large investments.

But the main feature is not only LiAZ gas buses, but also all other graduates of the Likino Bus Plant - this is the body. In the early models of LiAZ buses, one of the many complaints from consumers was the poor wear resistance of the body - it very quickly began to rot.

Probably, the Likinsky Automobile Plant decided to rid its graduates of this problem once and for all. Designers and engineers adopted the technologies of the world's leading bus manufacturing companies and used them in manufactured products, which can now “show off” a body that is not afraid of through corrosion for 12 years. Many, if not all, domestic analogues cannot boast of such durability. The benefits are obvious.

The manufacturing plant provides the opportunity to equip LiAZ gas buses at your own discretion. Here's what you can equip a LiAZ gas bus with:

  • Fire extinguishing system;
  • reclining passenger seats;
  • passenger seats with reclining backrest and seat belts
  • tinted glued glass;
  • tachograph;
  • electronic route indicator (4 and 4 pcs.);
  • Grammer driver's seat;
  • autoinformer;
  • Pilot driver's seat;
  • radio (+ 6 speakers in the cabin);
  • fluorescent lamps for interior lighting;
  • headlights made in Türkiye;
  • on-demand stop buttons in handrails;
  • new driver's cabin interior and dashboard;
  • luggage racks;
  • Matador tires.

All this makes it possible to buy a LiAZ gas bus that best suits your requirements. For additional information about the prices of optional equipment and compatibility with certain LiAZ gas models, you can contact us by phone or email.

What does the lineup hide?

Let's take a brief look at the representatives of the LiAZ gas bus model range. In particular, with four models - urban, suburban, semi-low floor and articulated LiAZ gas bus.

The LiAZ-52937 gas bus is distinguished by its semi-low-floor design, traditional quality and modern design. This model is a worthy competitor to foreign-made analogues, attracting consumers with an optimal price/quality ratio. The customer is given a choice of steering – Chepel or ZF.

The LiAZ-62127 articulated gas bus, in addition to its impressive capacity (178 people), is famous for its large safety margin and abundance of imported components (almost all foreign-made), which ensures reduced operating costs. Control of this model is facilitated by the MAZ steering mechanism with hydraulic booster.

Well, the LiAZ-525657 and LiAZ-525657-01 models differ from each other only in that in the suburban version (with add-on -01) the number of seats has been increased to 44, while in the second gas bus there are 23.

Conclusion

Having considered the design, technical equipment, advantages and features LiAZ gas buses we can conclude that their payback will not be long in coming; they are best used in flat areas. Be that as it may, undoubtedly, LiAZ gas buses are high-quality and durable passenger vehicles, unpretentious in operation and affordable. This section presents a model range of four LiAZ gas buses - the choice is yours.

The LiAZ-525657 model is designed to operate on urban routes with medium and high passenger traffic. The spacious interior (which can accommodate about 110 people) is equipped with handrails and seats (23 pieces) for standing and seated passengers, respectively. The sale of LiAZ-525657 gas buses in our company can be carried out in various configuration options.

Capacity: 110 people, 23 village places
Length: 11400 mm
Width: 2500 mm
Height: 3007 mm

The LiAZ-525657-01 suburban gas bus will become indispensable on routes of various lengths, because it is equipped with wear-resistant components and components. The interior of this gas vehicle can accommodate 88 people, while 44 of them will be located on comfortable seats. The main advantages of these gas models are unpretentiousness in operation, affordable price and high strength.

At the ExpoCityTrans exhibition, which takes place at VDNKh from November 29 to January 1, the GAZ Group (which also owns the Likinsky Bus Plant) presented an electric bus based on LiAZ: it will be tested on Moscow routes.

The predecessor of this vehicle was an experimental model, which was described in AR No. 10, 2015: based on the results of its tests, Mosgortrans gave the Gazov workers technical specifications for a second-generation electric bus.

GAZ Group President Vadim Sorokin (right) hands over the symbolic key to the bus to Mosgortrans General Director Evgeny Mikhailov

It is maximally unified with the serial LiAZ-5292, and the external difference is a hump along the entire length of the roof, under which Korean batteries with a capacity of 130 kWh and a total weight of 1800 kg are hidden. Instead of an internal combustion engine, there is a Siemens traction electric motor (this company became one of the project partners), charging is carried out through a 700-volt outlet hidden in the front right behind the gas emblem. There is also an alternative socket in the engine compartment, 380 V: through it, the batteries are fully charged in six hours, through the bow - in four hours.

The main socket is hidden behind the emblem

0 / 0

The promised daily range is 200 km, but taking into account a couple of intermediate recharges for 20-30 minutes (while the driver is having lunch, etc.).

In the engine compartment there is an air compressor, a 380 V charger and an auxiliary heater

By the way, the heating is powered by an autonomous diesel stove, but the air conditioning system is powered by the same high-voltage batteries. To minimize infrastructure costs, Mosgortrans is going to use the existing trolleybus power network for charging: it is planned to replace some of the trolleybuses in the center of Moscow with electric buses.

The interior, like all new LiAZs, is very neat, bright and spacious

The vehicle will be tested on routes until spring: the price has not been announced, but it can be assumed that it will be comparable to the cost of a similar NefAZ electric bus shown at (25-27 million rubles). For a basic diesel LiAZ-5292 in good configuration they ask for about 10-11 million rubles, for a gas one - 17 million. However, the most expensive component of the electric bus design is the batteries, and the gas company plans to provide them for long-term (five years) lease in the future.
