Logan 1.6 technical specifications. Budget sedan Renault Logan I. Design features and specifications of the internal combustion engine

Renault Logan, aka Nissan Aprio, Renault Tondar 90, Nissan NP200, Lada Largus and Renault Symbol are cars of the same group, built on the basis of the Romanian model Dacia Logan. The car was born in 2004 and was equipped with various power units throughout its production life.

The Renault Logan engine, which is used to complete the car, is mainly determined by the solvency of the market to which the car is supplied, as well as the requirements for the quality of the fuel being filled.

The Renault Logan K series gasoline engine, installed on Russian-made cars, is a modified design of a very outdated engine that has been installed on production cars since the mid-80s. The K7M engine, unlike its E-series ancestor, has an overhead camshaft driving 8 valves.

With this modification, the Renault Logan engine design was brought to a more modern level, unlike the previous generation, when the valve control shaft was located at the bottom of the cylinder block. The Logan 8-valve internal combustion engine has several versions, but the technical characteristics of the Logan engine are far from perfect.

The Renault Logan 1.6 engine in its single-shaft version can develop a maximum power of 98 hp. The K7M engine is quite versatile in terms of environmental characteristics, and although it is currently produced according to Euro 5 standards, having higher technical characteristics, it is also produced according to the entire range of requirements from Euro 1 to Euro 4.

The Renault Logan 1.6 8 valve power unit has limited possibilities for improvement. In order for the engine characteristics to meet the requirements for environmental friendliness, power, and fuel consumption, the cylinder head was modified and two camshafts were installed. This engine received the design index K4M. The technical characteristics of this engine indicate the possibility of developing a power of 113 hp. at 5500 rpm.

Engine K7M

The Logan K7M engine has 12 (14) versions. The differences are expressed in maximum power and the type of fuel used. Maximum power varies from 74 to 98 hp, with maximum speeds ranging from 5000 to 5500. Gasoline, gas, ethanol can be used as fuel.

Structurally, the 1.6 engine is made according to the L4 SOHC scheme. Number of valves - 8. Electronically controlled injection fuel supply system.

There are no cars on the Russian market whose engines are configured to run on liquefied gas or ethanol. Until 2010, the K7M 710 engine was standardly installed on the Renault Logan. In 2011, the K7M 800 series engines began to be installed on cars. The technical characteristics of the new line of engines were somewhat suppressed to suit Euro4 requirements.

Due to the reconfiguration of the injection system and the operation of the catalytic converter, the engines lost 3 hp. and now develop only 83 horses at 5250 rpm, while developing a torque of 130-135 Nm within the rev range from 2500 to 5500. Peak torque is achieved at 4700-4800 rpm.

The K7MF710 motor is supplied as an option and as a spare part, having the letter index F. indicating the ability to operate on both gasoline and ethanol. Officially, such engines were not installed on cars intended for the Russian market.

The valve control design is based on the use of rocker arm pushers, which increases the number of parts used and, accordingly, reduces the reliability of this unit. The intake and exhaust valves are located on both sides relative to the engine axis. The camshaft is driven by a belt drive from the crankshaft. The rotation speed ratio is 1 to 2.

If the valve belt breaks, it may bend. The description of the CPG indicates the presence of a single recess in the bottom of the piston, but its depth is not enough. The valve may be bent if the valve hangs fully open.

With timely maintenance and replacement of necessary structural elements, the engine life is 400,000 km before the first major overhaul.

Engine K4M

Renault Logan is also equipped with 16 valve engines. Cars leave the factory equipped with K4M power units. This type of engine is a continuation of the development of the K7 family. The main design difference is the DOHC design of the engine. Two camshafts are used, mounted in a modified valve head.

The design is traditional, and the design solution made it possible to avoid using rocker arms as pushers. The force is transmitted directly from the camshaft lobes to the valve stem. The technical characteristics of the engine make it possible to obtain 113-115 hp, but a feature of this version of the power plant is the presence of a pronounced peak torque value.

The dependence of torque on speed is almost linear with an increase to 160 Nm at 4500 rpm and a subsequent decrease to 135 Nm at 7000 rpm. The engine is quite revvy. Maximum power is produced at 6800 rpm.

For the Russian version of the Renault Logan, the K4M engine is supplied with index 490. The same type of power plant is installed in the Lada Largus. To answer the question of whether the valves bend on this type of engine, it is necessary to turn to the design on the basis of which this engine was designed.

The resource of the K4M power plant is 400,000 km, like its predecessor. The indicators set by the manufacturer are confirmed under real operating conditions.

Fuel system

The fuel system of both types of units is injection. The engines are designed for operation on 95 gasoline. The use of fuel with an octane number of 92 is acceptable, but not justified, since fuel consumption increases and engine power characteristics decrease.

Oil system

Structurally made the same. The system pressure is generated by a gear oil pump mounted at the bottom of the engine. Oil is taken from the crankcase and supplied to the system under pressure. The cylinder mirrors are lubricated by oil mist (bubbling), which is created when the crankshaft rotates. Forced irrigation of the lower part of the cylinders using oil nozzles is not provided.

Engine oil for Renault Logan is selected based on operating conditions. Which oil to use as a base is absolutely not important. Since the power units are designed on the basis of engines of the 80s, all construction materials and, in general, all engine reliability require the use of mineral, semi-synthetic and fully synthetic oils.

However, the manufacturer indicates the use of mainly mineral water and semi-synthetics as the most economically justified options for liquid lubricants. Engines are not so picky as to run exclusively on modern synthetic oils. For the first time, Elf 5w30 all-season semi-synthetic oil is filled at the factory.

What kind of oil to pour then during operation depends on the technical condition and mileage of the engine, as well as temperature operating conditions. The most universal oil for Renault Logan is a lubricant with a viscosity of 5w40 and 5w50, which ensures normal engine operation in all climatic zones.

Main malfunctions and operational problems

Some malfunctions, such as engine tripping or engine vibration, are primarily caused by the spark plugs. Spark plugs have a limited resource and require timely replacement.

Due to the fact that this consumable element for controlling the ignition system is often counterfeited and, in principle, has a limited number of quality suppliers, the spark plugs should either be changed during maintenance at certified stations, or purchased spark plugs from authorized dealers.

Another common malfunction is a burnt-out cylinder head gasket. The problem is related to insufficient cooling of the block head. This is especially true on 16 valve engines.

A broken timing belt causes the valves to bend. Therefore, it is necessary to replace the belt drive and rollers every 60,000 km.

The design of power units is not complicated. If you have sufficient skills, you can repair the engine yourself. When replacing the timing belt on a 16-valve unit, it should be taken into account that there are no marks for aligning the shafts on the front of the engine.

If the top dead center of the piston can be determined by unscrewing the spark plugs and turning the crankshaft, followed by fixing it with a bolt through a special hole, then the camshafts are set according to the marks located in the rear of the head and closed with plugs. The shafts also have the ability to be fixed with special inserts.

Possibility of tuning and modifications

Renault has its own tuned K4M RS engine, developing 133 hp. Renault Logan does not have such an engine installed at the factory. If you do not plan to replace camshafts or deeply modernize the cylinder head, then tuning a Renault engine is usually done by flashing the engine management system. This allows you to increase the power of a standard 16 valve engine from 109 to 120 hp.

Installing a turbine supercharger is possible, but will lead to a reduction in engine life.

Renault Logan is a car that is known to every Russian motorist. This is not surprising, because, according to official data, it is one of the leaders in terms of the number of copies sold per year. The most popular engine options for this car are 1.6-liter units with 8 and 16 valves, and today we will talk about them.

Passport details

It is noteworthy that both versions of power units have the same volume, equal to 1.6 liters. However, the difference in the number of valves had a huge impact on the difference in technical characteristics and fuel consumption of these two versions. So, the engine is 1.6 - 8 cl. has a power of 82 hp. and 115 units of torque, and the 1.6 engine is 16 cl. has a power of 102 horsepower and a torque of 138 newton meters.

In this case, fuel consumption in the combined cycle will be approximately the same and amount to just over 7 liters per 100 kilometers. The maintenance schedule for both engines is approximately the same, but reviews from owners who purchased a Renault Logan with a manual and an automatic differ radically from each other.

This is easily explained by the fact that both engines have different performance and technical characteristics and at the same time have different reliability, trouble-free operation life and other rating data.

Dynamics

A superficial look at the performance characteristics and study of reviews from owners of Renault Logan with a 1.6 engine shows that, despite the same volume, engines with 8 and 16 valves behave differently in a car of the same configuration. Thus, the 8-valve design, especially when paired with an automatic transmission, greatly reduces the actual capabilities of the chassis and makes the car a real “urban vegetable”.

« Andrey. Ownership experience - 2 years. I decided not to go far from the golden mean and took a Renault Logan with a 1.6 - 8 cl engine. Of course, this is better than less powerful options, which will make the car very slow and clumsy, but 16-cl. the design makes the sedan a much more dynamic vehicle. For example, my acceleration reaches more than 12 seconds, taking into account the use of a 4-speed automatic, this figure increases by several more units.”

It’s interesting that you can find quite a few reviews online from owners of Renault Logan with the most powerful and dynamic engine option. " Artem. Ownership experience - 1 year. I have a Logan with a 102-horsepower engine. In principle, I am satisfied: the car has already traveled 20,000 kilometers without a single breakdown. The only thing is that you should very carefully monitor the regulations and quality of the gas station you visit most often. A friend of mine had a piston burnt out on a 102-horsepower engine because of this. Fuel consumption remains at 8-9 liters, which, according to the manufacturer, is within normal limits.”

Reliability

When considering engines with 82 and 102 hp. on board we must not forget about the key indicator for the vehicle’s power plants, their reliability. In other words, reviews from Renault Logan owners will clearly let you know what their experience is in operating engines with these configurations and what surprises you should be wary of during long trips.

« Evgenia. Ownership experience - 2 years. I have a motor with 102 horsepower and 16 cl. At first it seemed to me that the car was unrealistically powerful: I definitely did not expect such potential from Renault Logan. But over time I got used to it and now I can say with confidence that 102 forces pull the car only thanks to the mechanics - an automatic machine definitely couldn’t cope with such a job. When driving on the highway, the engine overheated twice, the car is afraid of high speeds.”

It is interesting that among the reviews of drivers who have already tried 8 cells. and 16th grade. engines, there are many who prefer an automatic to any other type of transmission. " Oleg. Ownership experience - 8 months. I have 8th grade. engine volume 1.6. I drive mostly around the city, so I consider an automatic to be an indispensable thing for me. Although the speed is only 4, in the city there is enough power for the eyes. The most powerful engine is of no use here, and its fuel consumption will be slightly higher.”

Transmissions

It is well known that 8 cl. engines. and 16th grade. with different types of gearboxes, be it a manual transmission or a classic automatic transmission, will behave differently, even with the same power, filled with engine oil and other conditions that may affect the dynamic characteristics of the car.

« Alexei. Ownership period - 3 months. I have a Renault Logan with a 16 cl engine. and 102 horsepower. I think that an automatic is categorically contraindicated for such a car. This particular transmission model has only 4 speeds and is morally outdated: such a pair under the hood can greatly reduce the actual capabilities of the car and make its power equivalent to 8 kL. motor with mechanics. In addition, the automatic requires a complete or partial change of transmission oil, and such a service in my city costs a lot of money, and in the end this can increase the cost of maintaining the car several times.”

By the way, many drivers consider another disadvantage of the automatic machine to be a faster waste of the resource of the components of the power unit, along with more expensive repairs.

« Ephraim. Ownership experience - 1 year. I had a car with an 82 hp engine. and 8th grade. type with automatic transmission. Since the car was bought for work, it soon had to be replaced due to fuel consumption that was disproportionate to any passport indicator. The engine has 82 hp. with an 8-valve design, according to the on-board computer, this figure exceeds 12 liters. Now I drive a car with 16 cl. engine and was never able to exceed the figure of 10 liters per hundred. By the way, servicing a transmission, unlike an automatic transmission, is almost twice as expensive, so there is something to think about.”

Summing up

Logan with a 1.6 engine with 8 and 16 valve design is a modern, economical and dynamic car. For a city dweller, an automatic transmission is suitable, which will greatly facilitate movement in traffic jams, and a manual transmission will allow you to achieve the maximum potential of the car on the highway and save on gasoline and maintenance. At the same time, the less powerful engine version is also more suitable for city life, while the “top” unit is perfect for driving on the highway.

Review of Renault Logan 1.6 l, 16 valves, 5-speed manual transmission. "Prestige" version.

My auto story:

1) VAZ 2105 1.5 4-speed manual transmission (own) – 40,000 km;

2) Renault Symbol 1.4 5-speed manual transmission (service) – 12,000 km;

3) VW Polo 1.4 8 cells. 5-speed hatchback (service) – 105,000 km;

4) Skoda Octavia 1.6 16 cl. 5-speed manual transmission (service) – 23,000 km;

5) Renault Symbol 1.4 16 cl. 5-speed manual transmission (service) – 26,000 km;

6) Renault Logan 1.6 16 cl. 5-speed manual transmission (own) - 44,500 km as of today.

I bought a car in February 2011 from Lucky Motors in Yekaterinburg. First installment 77,000 rub. + 15,000 rub. per month for 3 years (RUB 498,000).

Additionally, I bought rubber floor mats for the interior, a plastic tray for the trunk, and installed a cabin filter (RUB 2,000).

Now the odometer shows 46,000 km.

I'm very pleased with the car. A lot of reliable, comfortable, Russian-assembled car for Russian roads without showing off.

I chose a NEW car based on a budget of 400,000 rubles. Watched:

1. Renault Logan.

2. Hyundai Accent.

3. Lada Priora.

4. Skoda Fabia.

5. Nissan Almera Classic.

There was also a desire to take the Skoda Octavia 1.8 TSI 7-DSG for 900,000 rubles. and got deeply into debt, but sober calculation won.

I chose Renault Logan (collected reviews) for:

1. Reliability (according to taxi drivers in Ekata, Kurgan and Tyumen, cars go 200,000 km without repair. They start in any frost).

2. Spaciousness (when I was without a car - I drove as a passenger in Logan - I liked the visibility and comfort of the rear sofa. It is also important for me - children have a very good view from the seats).

3. High ground clearance of 155 mm, it is important for me to drive to the dacha on broken dirt roads (this is where the emphasis dropped, in principle...).

4. Build quality (the service mechanics said that the Lada was welded and assembled poorly and did not advise taking it, but the Logan was “excellent”).

5. I also looked at the efficiency and environmental friendliness of Logan - Euro 4, the declared consumption in the city is 9.4 l/100 km (1.6 16 cl), the same as that of the 1.4 8 valve engine.

“Prestige” package because:

1. This is the maximum speed, and it has everything that the designers intended for it.

2. The most modern engine in the line is 1.6 16 valves 102 hp. With. 145 N/m at 3700 rpm (my colleague used Logan 1.4 - he said that sometimes when overtaking on the highway there is a little lack of elasticity 80-120 km/h).

4. Better interior trim.

5. The most elegant appearance.

6. Maximum safety (watched all crash test videos on euroncap).

The color is white because:

1. Heats less in the sun in summer.

2. The brightest car at dusk is white, this is safety.

3. Any small car looks smarter in white.

Advantages of the car

1. A very roomy interior - perfect for a family: mom + dad + 2 children + mother-in-law. The rear seat can accommodate 2 child seats and a mother-in-law (165 cm, 75 kg). The trunk fits 2 children's bicycles with side wheels!, or a gasoline lawn mower, or a bunch of things, the arches of the trunk lid are a little in the way, but you can get used to it. But the lid opens very wide.

2. The cabin is quite quiet when driving up to 100 km/h. Additional sound insulation (Prestige version) was not required, although before buying the car I read reviews about noise and planned to do it. The budget for additional sound insulation is 17,000–25,000 rubles. at the Renault Autoworld showroom. Lucky Motors said that they wouldn’t deal with such nonsense at all...

3. Excellent suspension and geometry: ground clearance under load of 155 mm and wheelbase of 2630 mm. I comfortably pass speed bumps, holes and potholes. I drove along a broken country road with ruts, puddles 30 cm deep and gullies with four passengers - it was easy. I only asked passengers to get out a couple of times. On the way to the dacha - a 2 km dirt road - I fly as if on asphalt. It’s a pity to look at the owners of Mazda 3, Ford Focus and other low cars for a million when they try to follow me over potholes, poor fellows. One day, the latest generation TOYOTA Highlander fell behind me along a broken country road (a road for trucks from 44 km of the EKAD to Ganina Yama) - it’s a pity for the expensive car. And when later on the asphalt Toyota caught up with me and began to pass me on the left - the driver almost leaned out of the right window to see who was driving there in “this Logan”... and then, when he drove around, he slammed on the gas with irritation and fire... I laughed.

4. Gasoline consumption: In summer, city/highway – 8.9 l/6.7 l per 100 km. In winter, city/highway 11 l/7.8 l per 100 km. In the city I like to accelerate sharply, but on the highway I drive 90–110, overtake trucks, rev the engine up to 5000 rpm. I have been using the ER friction winner in the engine from the very first kilometers - I like it; one feels that the engine spins easier and gasoline consumption is reduced by 0.5–1 liters per 100 km on the highway.

5. Excellent visibility from the front seats, and for children from child seats in the rear seats.

6. Live motor. Run-in until 28,000 km (with ER), after that it went more lively. The torque is especially felt when I'm driving alone. If it is fully loaded, it is difficult to overtake on the highway, only if with a large margin. I fill up with 98 gasoline in the summer. The engine accelerates the car faster than on the 95th and 92nd. In winter, if it’s colder than -25 degrees, it’s 92 degrees, so that it starts better in cold weather. The engine starts with half a turn at –32 degrees, no automatic winding or VEBASTO. I also use a special blanket (Autoheat) in winter. The engine cools down more slowly with it.

7. Comfortable seating, especially in the rear seats - like on a sofa (compared to the Skoda Octavia and Volkswagen Golf 6 - you sit there like in a basin).

8. Convenient rear doors. It's convenient to sit the children back and load, for example, the TV.

9. Good headlight: low beam - the angle of the headlights is adjustable and high beam hits 150–200 m. Sufficient for driving 90–110 km/h on a night highway.

10. Clear and convenient service. I do maintenance every 15,000 km according to the regulations, more often. 1, 2 and 3 maintenance – 8,000 rubles. I change the cabin filter myself, it costs up to 450 rubles, I try to change it once every 2 months. In the summer I use coal. 4 maintenance services for 60,000 km with timing belt replacement at the Lucky Motors showroom were promised to be done for 17,000 rubles.

11. Drives like a small car (compared to the Skoda Octavia, it’s a real ship).

12. Doesn’t get blown away from a narrow highway (2 lanes for traffic without a median) by the oncoming air flow from a truck when moving 110 km per hour and by an oncoming truck at 90 km/h (compared to the VW Polo - it was carried away by you had to hold on).

Disadvantages of the car

1. People don’t respect you on the road if you hesitate a little, but when you drive fast and show all the lane changes, it’s normal.

2. Snow and dirt accumulate behind the seal along the upper edge of the doors. The snow freezes and turns into ice, you have to sweep it away so that it doesn’t fall into the cabin when you open the doors.

3. In humid (frosty) weather, the rear windows fog up (freeze).

4. There is no lumbar support in the driver's seat. All adjustments are stepped, sometimes it is difficult to find a comfortable position. On long trips, your back gets tired.

5. There are no standard hooks for the securing net in the trunk.

6. Insufficient visibility to the rear when parking - it is better to order parking sensors (about 8,000 rubles), or a rear view camera, or park in narrow spaces only in front. I hit the bumper twice (without consequences), but only in the first days of use. Then you get used to it, and the dimensions are read very well.

7. It seemed to me that the interior cools down very quickly when you turn off the engine in winter, but this is subjective.

8. Aerodynamics - after 80 km/h the oncoming air flow begins to whistle. You have to get used to this. Drag coefficient 0.36 (like a brick)

9. Dealer service is a bit expensive.

10. Low beam lamps burn out very often. (Need additional protection). I am already installing lamps with double the service life. I turn on the low beam no earlier than 1 minute after starting the engine. I close the hood very carefully. And still the lamp lasts for a maximum of 3 months. "Avtoframos" - do something with the light already!!!

11. Rear seats do not fold down. Dear developers!!! Make folding seats already, all my classmates have folding ones. In a family car, sometimes it is necessary to carry a crib or an adult bicycle or something else completely oversized!!!

12. The angle of the rear seat backrest does not change. If a 5-year-old child falls asleep in a chair, his head falls forward. It is necessary that the backrest leans back and the baby rides almost lying down.

General impression

I recommend Logan to practical family people without an inferiority complex. Remember that the car has a limited ability to transform the interior. I don’t recommend it to young guys - you’ll regret the purchase.

Engines of the Renault Logan model, equipped with a cylinder capacity of 1.6 liters and characterized by two power options: 82 and 102 hp. pp., are the most common in the domestic car market among the entire list of modifications of this model. These motors have proven themselves to be reliable and repairable. The engine resource is very long. They can please the owner with such current advantages that meet the requirements of advanced engine building, such as:

  • reliability of elements in the cooling system;
  • increased engine life;
  • compliance of the maximum power indicator with modern trends in the automotive industry.

This is evidenced by numerous reviews from owners.

About the history of development and design features of the units

The 1.6 and 16-valve engine differs from the newest modifications; they are the absence of a mechanism for regulating valve timing; this engine design has significantly reduced the dynamic capabilities of the car. But the advantages remain excellent maintainability and durability, that is, increased engine life, thanks to simple design solutions from the manufacturer.

The engine is powered by a 1.4-liter 8-valve engine, which confirms the identical layout and similar design aspects of both engines.

The changes affected the following components and systems:

  • the cylinder volume increased (1.6 liter engine), which made it possible to increase power in tandem with torque and improve the dynamic characteristics of the model;
  • The output of the unit increased by 11% (up to 82 “horses” for the 8-valve version), this engine design led to an increase in torque to 132 Nm;
  • the cooling system has undergone adjustments (the need for this modification is caused by an increase in engine power);
  • the cooling circuit did not receive any fundamental design changes, and its elements were modified in order to achieve greater performance, for which some new components were integrated, which led to an increase in the service life and efficiency of the system, especially in critical operating modes;
  • power increase up to 102 hp. With. achieved thanks to the use of new components in the cylinder-piston group units and valve mechanism:
  • the number of valves has doubled (from 8 to 16), which ensured better filling of the combustion chambers with the mixture and led to an increase in power and dynamic capabilities;
  • The service life of the motor has increased significantly due to the use of parts made of new, more durable alloys;
  • After applying the previously mentioned design solutions in the updated engines, Renault Logan developers managed to achieve significant fuel efficiency:
  • 1.5 liters at a distance of 100 km for a 1.6 engine with 16 valves;
  • 1.0 liter in the case of 8-valve engine versions.

All these innovations made it possible to essentially make the 1.6 liter engine. more modern (especially the 16-valve version), the engine life has become longer. Although the developers did not apply progressive and innovative design solutions, this modernization of engines for Renault Logan still made it possible to attract a large army of new potential customers to the updated model.

In addition to design innovations, these units began to meet the requirements of Euro-5 environmental standards. In the future, the manufacturer of Renault Logan models planned to bring the engine design to the level of compliance with Euro 6/7 standards.

The update of the 1.6-liter unit was not limited to the use of a 16-valve cylinder head mechanism. The increase in traction and power characteristics was achieved thanks to significant transformations, including:

  • increasing the performance level of the intake and exhaust systems, which was a necessary measure to bring engines to the advanced level of environmental standards;
  • the use of new elements in the cooling circuit, which significantly improved the efficiency of its operation;
  • replacement of the generator with a version of increased performance for the Renault Logan model, which made it possible to cope with increased loads on this unit (now the power varies depending on the model’s configuration)

About the durability and maintainability of motors

Operating experience with 1.6-liter engines did not reveal significant shortcomings in both modifications of 8 or 16 valves (16-valve with a power of 102 hp and 8-valve with 82 hp). According to the manufacturer, the resource of these units is approximately 200 thousand km, and what value this parameter will have in reality depends on the owner of the Renault Logan. Accordingly, reviews from car owners on this matter are positive.

If all routine maintenance is carried out in a timely manner and in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations, then the engine life can reach 400 thousand km, which is confirmed by numerous real examples. The only unpleasant surprise may be a broken timing belt, as evidenced by reviews. In the event of such an accident, the pistons collide with the valves, causing them to bend or completely collapse.

Let's sum it up

The considered power units with 8 or 16 valves are traditional for the French manufacturer of all models, including Renault Logan, and are unpretentious in operation and wear-resistant. In terms of dynamic characteristics, these engines are not “sports”, but they will not allow the owner to lag behind heavy traffic on the road. Thanks to their balanced characteristics, engines with 8 or 16 valves have deservedly gained the trust of many Renault Logan car lovers. Their reviews are very, very positive. There were cases when engines failed after driving 100 thousand km due to defects in the crankshaft liners, but these precedents were not widespread.

The Renault Logan 1.6 8 valve engine appeared in our country along with the first generation Renault Logan. Initially, the K7M gasoline power unit produced 87 horsepower, but today the same engine has a power of 82 hp. There is no error in this difference. The fact is that in 2005 the engine complied with Euro-2 environmental standards, and today it complies with Euro-5 standards. The power unit was made more environmentally friendly, but the reconfiguration deprived Logan’s engine of several horsepower.

Technical characteristics of the Renault Logan 1.6 8 valve engine

Working volume – 1598 cm3 Number of cylinders – 4 Number of valves – 8 Cylinder diameter – 79.5 mm Piston stroke – 80.5 mm Timing drive – belt Power hp (kW) – 87 (64) at 5500 rpm per minute

Torque – 128 Nm at 3000 rpm. per minute

Maximum speed – 175 km/h Acceleration to the first hundred – 11.5 seconds Fuel type – AI-92 gasoline Fuel consumption in the city – 10 liters Fuel consumption in the combined cycle – 7.3 liters Fuel consumption on the highway – 5.8 liters The engine has a long service life and is completely unpretentious . The main thing is to change the timing belt on time, which is perhaps the main weak point of the engine.

Pros of the K7M engine Renault Logan 1.6 8 valves

✔ low price and reliable engine design; ✔ reliability: confirmed service life is more than 400 thousand km; ✔ universal and repairable; ✔ easy to maintain; ✔ have high torque; ✔ good “elasticity” of engines is ensured, equal to 1.83.

Cons of the K7M engine Renault Logan 1.6 8 valves ✔ relatively high fuel consumption; ✔ there is instability in speed when idling; ✔ there are no hydraulic compensators in the design, so it is necessary to constantly adjust the valves (after 20-30 thousand km); ✔ there is a possibility of valves bending if the timing belt suddenly breaks; ✔ crankshaft seals often leak; ✔ low reliability of the cooling system; ✔ very noisy and prone to vibrations.- MPI distributed fuel injection. The engine, gearbox and clutch form the power unit - a single unit mounted in the engine compartment on three elastic rubber-metal supports. The right support is attached to the bracket on the top cover of the timing belt, and the left and rear ones are attached to the gearbox housing. The engine cylinder block is cast from cast iron, the cylinders are bored directly into the block. The nominal diameter of the cylinder is 79.5 mm. At the bottom of the cylinder block there are five crankshaft main bearing supports with removable caps, which are attached to the block with special bolts. The holes in the cylinder block for the bearings are machined with the covers installed, so the covers are not interchangeable and are marked on the outer surface to distinguish them (the covers are counted from the flywheel side). On the end surfaces of the middle support there are sockets for thrust half-rings that prevent axial movement of the crankshaft. Earbuds The main and connecting rod bearings of the crankshaft are steel, thin-walled with an anti-friction coating applied to the working surfaces. Crankshaft with five main and four connecting rod journals. The shaft is equipped with four counterweights cast integrally with it. To supply oil from the main journals to the connecting rods, there are channels whose outlet holes are closed with plugs. At the front end (toe) of the crankshaft there are installed: an oil pump drive sprocket, a timing gear drive pulley and an auxiliary drive pulley. In the hole of the toothed pulley there is a protrusion that fits into a groove on the toe of the crankshaft and secures the pulley from turning. The drive pulley for auxiliary units is similarly fixed on the shaft.

Cylinder head Renault Logan 1.6 is cast from aluminum alloy, common to all four cylinders. It is centered on the block with two bushings and secured with ten screws. A non-shrinking metal gasket is installed between the block and the head. There are five camshaft supports (bearings) located at the top of the cylinder head. The supports are made one-piece, and the camshaft is inserted into them from the timing drive side. The camshaft is driven by a toothed belt from the crankshaft. In the outer support journal of the camshaft (from the flywheel side) there is a groove into which a thrust flange fits, preventing axial movement of the shaft. The thrust flange is attached to the cylinder head with two screws. The valve rocker axis is attached to the camshaft supports with five bolts. The rocker arms are kept from moving along the axis by two brackets, which are secured with bolts securing the rocker arm axis. Screws are screwed into the rocker arms, which serve to adjust the thermal clearances in the valve drive 5. The adjusting screws are prevented from being loosened by locknuts. The valve seats and guides are pressed into the cylinder head. Oil deflector caps are placed on top of the valve guides. The valves are steel, located in two rows, inclined to the plane passing through the cylinder axes. At the front (along the direction of the car) there is a row of exhaust valves, and at the rear there is a row of intake valves. The intake valve plate is larger than the exhaust valve. Valve It opens with a rocker arm, one end of which rests on the camshaft cam, and the other, through an adjusting screw, on the end of the valve stem. The valve closes under the action of a spring. Its lower end rests on the washer, and its upper end rests on a plate, which is held in place by two crackers. The folded crackers have the shape of a truncated cone on the outside, and on the inside they are equipped with persistent flanges that fit into the groove on the valve stem.

Renault Logan engine lubrication combined. The main and connecting rod bearings of the crankshaft and the camshaft bearings are lubricated under pressure. Other engine components are splash lubricated. The pressure in the lubrication system is created by a gear oil pump located at the front of the oil pan and attached to the cylinder block. The oil pump is driven by a chain drive from the crankshaft.

The timing drive on Renault Logan 1.6 8 valves is carried out according to the following scheme (image just above) - torque from the crankshaft pulley is transmitted to the camshaft pulley, rotating the coolant pump pulley. The belt is tensioned with a special roller, which changes along with the timing belt. If the belt breaks, the valve bends. Therefore, in accordance with the vehicle maintenance regulations, we check the condition of the belt every 15 thousand km. The surface of the toothed part of the belt should not have folds, cracks, undercuts of teeth and separation of fabric from rubber. The reverse side of the belt should not have wear, exposing the cord threads, or signs of burning. There should be no delamination or fraying on the end surfaces of the belt. The belt must be replaced if traces of oil are found on it. Regardless of the condition of the Renault Logan timing belt, it must be replaced every 60 thousand kilometers.

Engine malfunctions and repairs Renault Logan/Sandero 1.6 K7M

Engine Renault Logan K7M 710 1.6 l. 86 hp nothing more than a regular K7J 1.4 liter, only with an increased piston stroke (from 70 to 80.5 mm), of course the height of the block has increased slightly, the clutch has a larger diameter, the flywheel has been enlarged and the shape of the gearbox housing has changed. Structurally, Logan's 1.6 liter engine, like its low-volume brother, has the same archaic design from the middle of the last century with rocker arms and a strange oil pump drive system from lower-end Renault engines of the 60s. In spite of everything, with careful attitude to the engine, service and maintenance, changing the oil 2 times more often than according to the instructions, it is very, very reliable, according to internal factory data, the service life of the Logan 1.6 engine is about 400 thousand km, in practice the engine traveled a little more . In 2010, the K7M 710 was replaced with the K7M 800, the engine was strangled, brought up to the Euro-4 environmental standard, the power decreased to 83 hp, and no design changes occurred. The disadvantages of the K7M are the same as those of the K7J 1.4 engine, high fuel consumption, the speed often starts to float at idle, valves need to be adjusted constantly (once every 20-30 thousand km), there were no hydraulic compensators and there are no timing drives It’s belt driven, if the belt breaks in the Logan 1.6, the valve bends, so we change the belt every 60 thousand km. Still the same crankshaft oil seal leaks. The motor is noisy and there are vibrations. On the design of the Renault Logan 1.6 engine and where the engine number is located, information is presented in the article “K7J engine”, which, apart from the volume and accompanying changes, has no other changes. All malfunctions and the reasons for their occurrence are also described there. Speaking about which engine for Renault Logan is better, 1.4 or 1.6 8 valve, take 1.6... the engine is the same, but the small volume is very weak. Also, on the basis of the K7M, the K4M engine was created with a 16-valve cylinder head and other significant innovations, the power of such an engine is significantly higher and if you choose (for example, Logan, Sandero), always take it, you won’t regret it.

Engine tuning Renault Logan K7M 1.6

Chip tuning of Renault Logan engine For the Logan K7M 800 engine, you can remove the catalyst, return it to its original power of 86 hp, install an exhaust and flash the sport firmware, maybe add a couple more horses, but nothing will change significantly, except fuel consumption, now your engine will eat more.
