What are parquet floors. The type of car is a crossover, it is also a SUV - what kind of car is it? Standard and optional equipment

In recent years, the automotive industry has been at its peak. Manufacturers compete against each other, releasing reliable, comfortable and safe cars. The only thing that confuses buyers is the variety of names in which it is rarely possible to navigate.

So, few motorists manage to understand the differences between a crossover, SUV and SUV. Let's consider these questions in more detail.

What is an SUV

The concept of "SUV" is extensive, because it covers the entire spectrum of transport, characterized by increased cross-country ability. This car is designed for off-road trips and special routes.

The main differences between 4x4 machines are a frame structure, a reduced range of gears, inter-wheel and inter-axle locks, a strong suspension, and so on.

The SUV is able to overcome obstacles, tow other vehicles, and move off-road.

The main disadvantage is that the combination of the qualities mentioned above with efficiency is impossible.

In addition, even the use of new technologies does not guarantee controllability on the highway (comparable to passenger cars).

Despite the apparent spaciousness in the cabin, there is no need to talk about comfort. These machines are "workhorses" designed for off-road travel.

The main representatives of the SUV class are the Grand Cherokee car, UAZ cars (Russia), Jeep, Nissan Patrol and others.

What is a crossover

A crossover is a vehicle that successfully combines a passenger car and an SUV. The main difference is the increased level of comfort.

The advantages of crossovers are cross-country ability, which is higher than that of passenger cars, sporty appearance, all-wheel drive (not always).

Crossovers are equipped with powerful engines and are easily controlled at speed.

Unlike an SUV, the crossover copes with serious off-road less briskly. Such cars are designed to travel on asphalt roads, although the car feels confident on the ground.

The main design differences are a two-volume body, four-wheel drive, thoughtful steering.

In addition, a built-in frame is installed in crossovers, which is reinforced with special ones (the body becomes stiffer).

Some crossovers are equipped with a complete "off-road package" - a lock-up drive and electronic systems that provide flotation in "average" off-road conditions.

In addition, such machines can easily cope with roads where there are no obstacles for the power unit and other mechanisms under the bottom of the vehicle.

Among the popular crossovers, it is worth highlighting the Porsche Cayenne, Lexus RX, Mercedes-Benz M-class, Saab 9-4X, Mitsubishi Outlander, Hyundai Santa Fe and others.

What is a parquet floor

SUV or “sports car” is a term that characterizes the “clothed” version of SUVs.

The main difference between such machines is the inability to overcome difficult obstacles (unlike their "brothers" - SUVs).

In terms of characteristics, SUVs are closer to passenger cars, but due to their versatility, they are able to perform a number of other tasks. Among them are the transportation of oversized cargo or passengers (from 6 people or more), light off-road trips or towing trailers.

SUVs are equipped with a load-bearing body (unlike SUVs, on which a rigid frame is installed).

The advantages of such cars are a high ceiling, a comfortable fit, a roomy interior, decent cross-country ability (for dirt roads).

In recent years, SUV manufacturers have switched from the issue of cross-country ability and pay more attention to fuel consumption, as well as reducing air resistance.

Of the design features of SUVs, it is worth highlighting - increased ground clearance (when compared with passenger cars), handling, comfort, price (lower than that of SUVs and crossovers).

The first SUVs in the West were Dodge and Land Rover. In the USSR - GAZ-M-72, Moskvich-410 and others.

Over time, such transport has become popular in dozens of countries around the world. Among modern SUVs, it is worth highlighting the Hyundai ix35, Toyota RAV4 and others.

What are the differences

As is clear from the description above, SUVs, crossovers and SUVs have a number of differences:

1. Body part:

Crossovers.

As a rule, they differ in a frame structure, but recently they are increasingly being produced on load-bearing bodies.

Advantages - low weight (when compared with frame options), ease of maintenance, minimal restoration costs.

The clearance of crossovers is at the level of 20-25 centimeters, which is enough to overcome even high obstacles. In some models, the ground clearance is less, which affects the patency of the vehicle;

SUVs.

Cars in which a station wagon body (rarely a hatchback) is installed.

The main difference between the bodies is that they are load-bearing, but in structure they almost do not differ from those mounted on passenger cars.

Ground clearance (in comparison with a passenger car) is 3-5 centimeters more, which does not guarantee cross-country ability of the car. Plus - ease of maneuvering and comfort.

With a detour of open sewer manholes, curbs and other obstacles on the road, there are no problems.

For similarity with SUVs, various “knick-knacks” are put on SUVs, which are characteristic only for “jeeps”.

Unlike SUVs, the interior of SUVs is made under the luxury class;

SUV.

A car with an installed rigid frame that can withstand powerful loads.

Although, in recent years, manufacturers have been saving on frames and achieving reliability through auxiliary elements.

So, SUVs are conditionally divided into two categories - equipped with a load-bearing body and frame.

The former are special in that the main function is taken over by the body, and the latter by a rigid frame.

Over the past 3-5 years, another body type has been gaining popularity - an integrated frame, which is something in common with the structures mentioned above.

2. Chassis:

Crossovers.

They are equipped with a chassis, which differs in design from the chassis of an SUV, but is also somewhat similar to it.

Common features - increased stroke, structural simplicity, ease of use. The front suspension is made using independent structures, and the rear suspension is in the form of a dependent axle.

SUVs.

Cars that are close in design to crossovers, but similar to "cars".

The main difference is the presence of reinforced chassis components, the use of a number of technical solutions that allow you to drive off-road.

Often, SUVs are equipped with an adaptive suspension with the function of changing the clearance and adjusting the shock absorber stiffness.

SUV tires have a high profile (sometimes low-profile rubber is installed), which is not suitable for traction on a dirt road.

Such cars are suitable for trips on flat and paved roads, but they will not be lost when leaving the dirt road.

SUVs (we are talking about chassis).

Vehicles equipped with fully or partially dependent suspension.

You should not expect comfort with this design, but reliability is guaranteed.

In addition, the chassis of the SUV is distinguished by a margin of safety, which opens the way to overcome the most serious obstacles.

SUVs have more suspension travel, which ensures that the wheel stays on the ground even when driving off-road.

3. Transmission:

Crossovers.

The latest models are 100% successful for manufacturers. Competent developers have managed to use the capabilities of the 4x4 drive, which is connected only when necessary.

As for the distribution of torque, this process is controlled by electronics. The task of the latter is to report the presence of slippage.

So, Honda uses a hydraulic lock that transmits rotation to the towing axle through a special clutch;

SUVs.

On such machines, four-wheel drive is installed, but there is no downshift.

The car drives on a front-wheel drive, and the rear-wheel drive is connected only when the front wheels slip. At the same time, the main drawback is the connection of the rear axle with a delay, due to which the machine “buries” into the ground even before the auxiliary device is turned on.

In addition, the SUV should not be used off-road because of the risk of overheating of the viscous coupling during long-term towing. In this case, the driver will have to wait until the device cools down.

SUV.

The jeep car is equipped with a permanent 4x4 drive. An alternative is the possibility of connecting a second drive if necessary.

In such cases, the bridge is switched on manually, and not using a viscous coupling.

In addition, on SUVs, the installation of a center differential with a mechanical or interwheel lock is mandatory.

If the car does not have a downshift, then it is no longer an SUV, but a crossover.

4. Engine:

SUVs and crossovers.

Cars that, as a rule, move on paved roads and in urban conditions.

This means that the power units are slightly different from the engines installed on passenger cars.

Preference is given to gasoline units, but diesel engines are not rejected.

SUV.

Unlike SUVs and crossovers, the SUV has to overcome obstacles at low speed. This means that you cannot do without the appropriate thrust and torque reserve.

The motor of an SUV should not so much accelerate the car as pull it out even in the most difficult conditions. If we are talking about a gasoline engine, then the volume should be from 2 liters or more.

Powerful motors have a number of advantages - traction at low speeds, elasticity, the ability to distribute power throughout the entire operating range, and reliability.

The considered qualities guarantee effective traction control when driving off-road.

The disadvantage of such motors is one - excessive "voracity", which not all motorists are able to pull.

For this reason, diesel engines are increasingly being mounted on SUVs, the economy of which does not interfere with delivering sufficient power with an incredible torque.

In addition, there is diesel fuel on the roads, but not always the AI-95.

World market leaders in the production of crossovers, SUVs and SUVs

Car manufacturers know how to delight with new and advanced models.

But among SUVs, crossovers and SUVs, it is worth highlighting a number of leaders who hold the “palm”:

Results

Despite the differences in the types of cars under consideration, there should be no problems with the choice.

In the past few years, the number of cars on the country's roads has increased tens or even hundreds of times. Every day an increasing number of them are represented by SUVs, SUVs and crossovers. Large, roomy, with an interesting design, glossy and shiny, everyone likes them, but not everyone can answer the question, SUV - what is it, and name the differences between a crossover and a SUV or a crossover and an SUV. And you need to know them, because often, due to the ignorance of the townsfolk, manufacturers mislead them, calling SUVs crossovers, which, not only in the mud, are not always able to drive through the usual.

Definitions

So, SUV - what is it? It is impossible to give an answer to this question in three words, since attention should be paid to many criteria. The SUV is one of the Japanese brands with extended interior space, outwardly similar to a crossover, but without its mechanical characteristics. There is a misconception that SUVs, like crossovers, have increased cross-country ability. However, this is just a delusion. They are designed to drive on normal asphalt or, in extreme cases, on a rolled dry road.

A crossover is a hybrid of an SUV and a premium car. He, like an SUV, has a powerful engine and increased cross-country ability, and like a premium car - a glossy appearance. Accordingly, the patency of the crossover is significantly higher than that of the SUV. It is equipped and able to successfully cope with the routes of a light degree of weakness. However, this is more of a sports car than an off-road car. A crossover to an SUV is like walking to Moscow, so driving it along a badly broken, deformed track or a wet, muddy country road strewn with ruts, puddles and ditches is possible, but not for a long time. Much more characteristic of a crossover are “walks” along an asphalt road with infrequent trips out of town, which is explained by the relatively small margin of safety of its independent suspension.

The SUV is the king of any routes, even those that are not at all worthy of the name "road". Unlike a crossover, an SUV is designed specifically for off-road driving, its components have a huge margin of safety. All-terrain vehicles do not always have colossal dimensions, but they are necessarily characterized by high tractive power and maneuverability.

Differences in terms of mechanics

Judging only by appearance, all three categories of cars can be defined as SUVs, but due to how big the difference in their technical equipment is, it would be wrong to do so. In order to give the most complete answers to the questions: SUV - what is it and how does a SUV differ from a crossover, you should consider in more detail the differences in their bodies, transmissions and suspensions.

A few words about the body

While crossovers and SUVs have only a load-bearing body assembly, SUVs are equipped with a frame structure with all units and assemblies. And, of course, the torsional rigidity of the crossover body is much higher than that of the SUV.

About transmission

A distinctive feature of the off-road transmission is the equipment with a reduced range of gears that allows you to overcome the conditions of bad roads. In addition, machines of this type have bridges that are forcibly connected, or all-wheel drive, a feature of which is

The transmission of crossovers is characterized by greater simplicity: they do not have a number of low gears and permanent all-wheel drive, it is connected only forcibly in the process of slipping.

The design of the SUV gearbox can be of two types: similar to that installed in a crossover or front-wheel drive, typical of an ordinary passenger car.

Suspension Features

The SUV has a dependent suspension, which provides an increase in the degree of cross-country ability of the car. Its advantage is reliability, the disadvantage is that the comfort of driving an SUV is much inferior to a “walk” on a crossover or SUV.

SUVs and crossovers usually have a rear and front. The only difference is that the suspension of the latter is aimed at balancing successful use both off-road and on an ordinary asphalt track. You can get the most complete answer to the question, SUV - what is it, by making an attempt to drive a car off-road. If the crossover suspension has a sufficient margin of safety only for traveling on good paved or trampled sandy roads, then the SUV will not always go on an asphalt track if it is broken.

About wheels and patency

The most cardinal differences between SUVs, SUVs and crossovers are expressed in the features of their wheels and geometric cross-country ability.

The SUV is equipped with large wheels (from thirty inches in diameter and above) with a high sidewall. And crossovers and SUVs can have the usual low-profile, designed to drive traffic on asphalt.

SUV wheels must be of large diameter (from 30 inches) with a high sidewall. While crossovers and SUVs can be equipped with low-profile tires for driving on asphalt. The cross-country ability of SUVs has been significantly increased by reducing the overhangs of the stern and front of the car. This allows you to increase the exit and approach angles during sharp or unexpected descents and ascents. Crossovers and SUVs have lower cross-country ability, as they are equipped with fairly large overhangs. The reason for this is that in the design of SUV or crossover cars, the main indicator is the aesthetic moment, and not the physical one.

Mentioning the geometric patency, it is important to note that its main definition is the ability to overcome obstacles of varying complexity.

Main Representatives

The most prominent representatives of SUVs are Jeep Wrangler, Land Rover Discovery, Chevrolet Niva, VW Touareg, Range Rover, Niva, Mercedes-Benz ML / G-Class, and all models of the domestic UAZ.

The crossover family is proudly represented by the Jeep Grand, Infinity EX, Audi Q7 and Lexus RX.

The following cars are called SUVs: the new SUV Toyota RAV4, VW Tiguan, KIA Sportage, Nissan Qashqai (Murano, X-Trail) and Honda Pilot. We hope you can now see a clear difference.

Thinking about what a SUV and a crossover are, one cannot fail to mention cars that are at the junction of the above classes: Porsche Cayenne, Range Rover Sport and Mercedes M-Class. They combine certain features of a crossover and an SUV, that is, although crossovers usually do not have a number of reduction gears, the listed cars do have one.

In search of a comfortable and roomy car, Russian motorists look through dozens of options before choosing the right one. The formula of an ideal car includes such components as a roomy interior with relatively modest dimensions, a powerful engine that consumes fuel as economically as possible, an attractive modern design, as well as the ability to overcome urban slush and off-road. SUVs largely meet these criteria, and this is confirmed by their sales volumes. Why the car got such a nickname, what is its difference from similar counterparts and what advantages it has - this will be discussed in our article.

BMW X3 - a representative of the SUV family

What is the secret of the name?

First of all, you should understand the name of this type of car. Many drivers ask: why was the car so called - "SUV"? On the network you can find many jokes on this topic, designed for beginners. Some argue that cars are only designed to drive on parquet, while others convince neophytes of the automaker that the floor in the cabin is lined with high-quality parquet. Of course, this is just humor, in fact, everything is completely different. If you look at the photo of the interior trim of SUVs, you can make sure that the floor there is the same as that of other cars, and commercials show us the level of movement of models on real roads.

Why "SUV"? This name was given to the car thanks to the developments of engineers who sought to create a lightweight version of an SUV. Powerful and stylish SUVs became very popular among the population, but they were more often bought not for off-road driving, but in order to create the image of a “tough guy in a cool car”. As a result, car owners were faced with the fact that in the conditions of the city, a powerful herd hidden under the hood of their car languished idle, wasting liters of fuel in vain.

Overview of the car Audi Q5:

Having facilitated and simplified the body structure, as well as removing the options that are needed only for a real SUV (downshift in the transfer case, blocking of center and center differentials), the developers created a modification, which at first was called. In addition to these changes, the designers also replaced the transfer case with a power take-off shaft connected to a clutch (electromagnetic or viscous coupling) that connects the second axle.

Outwardly, these models differed little from SUVs, but in terms of their characteristics they were more suitable for trips in the city. The new name took root and eventually transformed into the familiar "SUV". In parallel with this, another name for this group of cars appeared - crossovers, and today you can find a heated debate on the network on the topic "how to correctly identify a car - an SUV, a crossover or an SUV." Why did it happen? In the photo, these features are not so distinguishable, it's all about the technical characteristics.

More powerful models of SUVs, designed not only for city streets and highways, but also able to cope with rural primers, are usually referred to as crossovers. This group is a kind of SUV in a more expensive and sporty design.

Main characteristics

In America, SUVs are classified as Crossover Utility Vehicles or CUVs. A car in this category combines some of the advantages of SUVs and conventional passenger cars. If you look at the photos of the brightest representatives of this type, you will notice that it is very easy to confuse an SUV with an SUV, especially if you do not know the detailed technical specifications. Cars of this type are not designed for off-road driving, their ceiling is a primer, and even then not every model can cope with it.

When developing parquet SUVs as dual-purpose vehicles, the designers used platforms from ordinary passenger cars with a hatchback or sedan body. More brutal than a conventional car, appearance (can be seen in the photo), the presence of some off-road options and increased ground clearance make this group intermediate between passenger cars and SUVs. Other characteristics should be added here, clearly demonstrating why the SUV is in high demand among motorists.

  • Body. If SUVs have a frame body, then for SUVs it is load-bearing - it is to the body that such equipment as the chassis and engine is attached.
  • Transmission. There is four-wheel drive, but no downshift. Most often, a car of this type drives on a front-wheel drive, and the rear is connected in cases where the front wheels are slipping. There is one peculiarity here: the rear axle of these models is connected with some delay, because of which the SUV has time to dig its wheels into the ground. Another reason why it is not recommended to use parquet cars off-road is overheating of the viscous coupling during prolonged slipping. The electronics turn it off and the driver has to wait for it to cool down.
  • Suspension. Fully independent front and rear suspension with balanced handling designed to ride in comfort on rough roads. This combination with the features of the transmission explains why the popularity of SUVs is only increasing every year: in the Russian climate, this may well come in handy on the outskirts of the city.
  • Clearance. A fairly high ground clearance allows the SUV to get out of shallow potholes, calmly park at curbs and easily overcome speed bumps.

Beautiful, reliable, democratic

Low (compared to an SUV) price and good cross-country performance make a car of this class quite popular. Russians prefer models that can be used as family cars, and the SUV is quite suitable for this.

The spacious roomy interior accommodates restless children and allows elderly people to comfortably accommodate. On this car, you can safely drive to a country cottage in any weather and return back, loading the gifts of nature into the trunk. Manufacturers offer models on the Russian car market that are adapted to the specifics of the climate, which further attracts potential buyers.

Bright representatives of this group can be called models, some of which are shown in the photo above. These are Kia Sorento, Hyundai Santa Fe, Audi Q5, BMW X3, Peugeot 3008, Mazda CX-5, Toyota RAV4, Opel Mokka and others. Prices for SUVs range from 500 thousand rubles to one and a half and more million rubles.

Now among motorists, crossovers are becoming extremely popular. Automakers understand this, so there are a huge number of models on the market in this body design. There are both budget options and more expensive ones. Today we look at the best crossovers of 2019 in the budget, mid-range, comfort and premium segments.

Before writing this article, we studied all the crossovers that are currently available on the market. Based on this, the best options were selected in each class and a rating was compiled. You will learn about them below and understand which crossover to choose in 2019-2020.

The best among compact crossovers

Compact and budget crossovers are almost the same thing. However, not all compact SUVs are budget, but still their price is lower than that of other classes.

1.Hyundai Tucson

Among compact crossovers, the “brainchild” of the Korean manufacturer, the Hyundai Tucson, has recently become extremely popular. We will consider it first.

This car is based on the Kia Sportage, but it is superior in popularity. And this is not strange, because Tucson is distinguished by its rich equipment, interesting and aggressive design, as well as a modern interior.

The most popular budget crossover can be bought from a dealer for 1,300,000 rubles in the minimum configuration. Then the car will be equipped with a 2.0-liter gasoline engine with a capacity of 150 “horses”, paired with a manual transmission.

It is noteworthy that the drive is already complete. For this amount, a touch-screen multimedia system, heated steering wheel and front seats, as well as other equipment are already available.

For 2 million rubles, you can already buy a 2019 car fully equipped with automatic transmission and all possible additions. Among the engines you can choose - gasoline and diesel.

2 Renault Duster

Among the crossovers "popular" can be called the next participant in the rating - Renault Duster. At one time it was sold in huge quantities, and even now its popularity is kept at a decent level.

Of course, the performance of the interior here is not as spectacular as in the previous car, and the appearance is not as interesting. However, if you take into account the price of the Duster, then such shortcomings become insignificant.

So, the crossover will cost at least 620 thousand rubles. However, then it will be with a 1.6 liter gasoline engine, which works together with a manual transmission, and there is also only front-wheel drive. If you need a car with all-wheel drive, you will have to pay at least 810 thousand rubles.

Duster is also offered with a 1.5 liter diesel engine, but its minimum cost is 900 thousand rubles.

3.Kia Soul

Do you like cars with an unusual and interesting design to stand out from the crowd? Then the urban Kia Soul is perfect for you.

With regards to the appearance, it is worth noting that the color of the roof may differ from the body itself. also due to its square shape and the location of the racks, the driver has excellent visibility.

The cost of this crossover (with a small reservation) starts from 820 thousand rubles. However, for this money we get a car with front-wheel drive, manual transmission and a 123-horsepower 1.6-liter engine.

The version with automatic transmission will cost at least 930 thousand rubles. In the maximum configuration, with all possible additions, the Soul will cost 1,450,000 rubles.

4 Ford Eco-Sport

Very economical and compact - these words are definitely about the Ford Eco-Sport. It can rightfully be called an urban crossover, which corresponds in price / quality. It can be recommended, because, due to its small dimensions, parking on the Eco-Sport is extremely simple.

For Russia, the car is presented with a price of 1,000,000 rubles for the initial configuration. However, four-wheel drive is not available for this money, and a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with a capacity of 123 “horses” is not available.

The cost of a crossover with all-wheel drive starts from 1,300,000 rubles. In any configuration, the car is equipped with automatic transmission.

5.Nissan Qashqai

The last of the class of compact crossovers, consider the Nissan Qashqai. Do you want to understand what real Japanese quality is? Then you should take a closer look at this car.

Qashqai can be called universal - it is suitable for both a young guy and an aged man, it will also “befit” a woman or family people. Small dimensions will allow you to feel confident in city conditions, and high ground clearance will allow you to drive off-road if necessary.

The price of a crossover in Russia starts from 1,250,000 rubles. In the minimum configuration, it is equipped with a 2.0 liter gasoline engine with a capacity of 144 horsepower. The power unit is paired with a manual transmission. Also, only front-wheel drive is available for this money.

All-wheel drive Qashqai will cost 1,700,000 rubles. Then it will be equipped with a 2.0 liter engine, as well as a "variator".

The best mid-capacity crossovers

Next, we move on to mid-size crossovers. Usually their cost is higher than that of compact ones. However, along with the increase in prices, we get improved features and performance, for which people are sometimes willing to overpay.

1.Hyundai Santa Fe

Let's start with a very roomy "Korean" - Hyundai Santa Fe. If desired, you can buy a crossover with a third row of seats, which is ideal for long trips and travel.

The car was updated not so long ago, the appearance has become more aggressive - a massive radiator grille and narrow, but "stretched" headlights.

The cost of Santa Fe starts from 1,900,000 rubles. With such a budget, we get a car with a gasoline engine for 188 “horses” and a volume of 2.4 liters, as well as automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The set of options will already be good. There is also a 2.2 liter diesel engine. The car in the maximum configuration will cost 2,400,000 rubles.

2. Mazda CX-5

In second place is a crossover from the Japanese manufacturer - Mazda CX-5. The car has a sporty look, and also has good dynamics and handling.

In the initial configuration, the model costs 1,500,000 rubles. However, then all-wheel drive is not available - only the front. An all-wheel drive version with a 2.0 engine with a capacity of 150 horsepower, which is paired with an automatic transmission, will cost 1,800,000 rubles.

You can also choose a crossover with a more powerful engine - 194 horsepower. Then its volume will be 2.5 liters.

3.Volkswagen Tiguan

For lovers of German quality, the Volkswagen Tiguan will be “to your taste”. This is a practical car, distinguished by its reliability. During its development, the manufacturer used all the innovative technologies.

After restyling, the crossover has become much prettier, and some characteristics have also improved. In the initial configuration, the car will cost 1,300,000 rubles. Then four-wheel drive is not available, the box will be mechanical, and the engine is the simplest of all - with a volume of 1.4 liters and a capacity of 125 horsepower.

The all-wheel drive version will cost at least 1,600,000 rubles, while the engine and gearbox will remain the same. The main disadvantage of the car is that its options are expensive.

4.Skoda Karoq

In fourth place, consider the Skoda Karoq. This is a relatively young crossover model that appeared on the market in 2018. The car has similarities with the Skoda Kodiaq. He entered the market to replace the Yeti model.

Karoq has a decent engine range - engines with a volume of 1.0, 1.5, 1.6, 2.0 liters are available. Their power is from 115 to 190 horsepower. Weaker engines are equipped only with manual transmission, more powerful options - automatic transmission.

At the moment, deliveries of the car have not been established to Russia, so the exact prices are unknown. One thing is known for sure - if the assembly takes place here, then the cost will be approximately the same as that of competitors.

5. Haval F7

Well, of course, what is the rating without the "Chinese", especially when they have reached a new good level. This time, consider the Haval F7. The model is very fresh and appeared on the market only in the summer of 2019, but has already acquired its fans.

It is worth noting that Haval with the H6 Coupe model is included in.

The cost of a car in Russia starts from 1,520,000 rubles. For this amount, we get a crossover with a 1.5-liter gasoline engine and a power of 150 horsepower, which is paired with a “robot”. The drive is complete.

The maximum cost of a crossover at the moment is 1,720,000 rubles. Then the equipment will be richer - a 2-liter engine with a capacity of 190 "horses", all other parameters remain the same.

Comfort class crossovers

There are also comfort class crossovers. They, as the name implies, are more comfortable than in the previous class. Sometimes, because of this, patency and other parameters worsen, but this is not about that now. Consider the best comfort-class SUVs in 2019.

1.Toyota RAV4

According to most experts, the best crossover of 2019 in this segment is the Toyota RAV4. This is the best option in terms of price / quality ratio. There are questions about the suspension (hard), interior trim, but in general the car has a modern design, many options, and is also well adapted to the harsh Russian conditions.

So, now the cost of Toyota RAV4 starts from 1,650,000 rubles. However, for this money, the car is almost empty - the equipment is minimal, manual transmission, only front-wheel drive, as well as a 2-liter engine. A car with the same equipment, but already on the "variator" will cost 1,710,000 rubles.

All-wheel drive RAV4 will now cost at least 1,950,000 rubles. This is taking into account its configuration "Comfort Plus".

2. Mazda CX-9

Do you like it when a car has an aggressive sporty look and you are looking for a crossover? Then be sure to pay attention to the Mazda CX-9. This is a large car that belongs to the class of SUVs, which has good comfort.

The cost of the model is rather big for its class - 2,700,000 rubles in the minimum configuration. However, all-wheel drive, automatic transmission and a powerful 231 horsepower engine with a volume of 2.5 liters are already available in the “minimum salary”, which cannot but rejoice. There are also various options that add comfort while riding.

CX-9 in the maximum configuration will cost 3,400,000 rubles.

3.Audi Q5

In third place we have the Audi Q5. This crossover looks very solid, but at the same time it can be comfortably driven both in urban conditions and occasionally on small off-road conditions. Also, the car will be a good option for a novice driver due to its small size.

The initial cost of the crossover is 2,520,000 rubles. Then it will be equipped with a 249 “horse” gasoline engine, paired with a “robot”. All-wheel drive is also available. The car has a variety of sensors that increase comfort and safety.

The new Q5 in the maximum configuration will cost 2,800,000 rubles.

4.Ford Explorer

As you can see, today we are considering not only crossovers, but also SUVs, of course, comfortable and more or less adapted to urban conditions. We could not ignore the Ford Explorer.

At the moment, its minimum cost is 2,650,000 rubles. Of course, then we get all-wheel drive, a 3.5-liter engine with a capacity of 249 horsepower, as well as an automatic transmission. Equipment for the money is not the maximum, but everything you need will be.

To feel the maximum comfort from owning the Explorer, you can purchase it at the “maximum speed” for 3,200,000 rubles.

5.Nissan Murano

In the comfort class, it is worth considering another interesting example of Japanese origin - the Nissan Murano. This is a compact, but at the same time very comfortable and beautiful crossover.

Its initial cost is 2,300,000 rubles. For this money, we already get a car with a 249-horsepower engine, the volume of which is 3.5 liters, a CVT and all-wheel drive. However, the equipment is not the richest, there are not many options. If you want to have additional options, then it is better to pay about 200 thousand rubles and get a crossover with different security systems, multimedia and other things.

Luxury crossovers

So, all the above crossovers, by and large, are budget, although their cost is different, they do not have any frills, so they will not suit the “sophisticated user”. Consider crossovers from the premium segment, where sometimes people are willing to overpay not only for comfort, but for excesses.

1.Volkswagen Touareg

In the first place, consider the crossover from Volkswagen - Touareg. After a recent update, its appearance has noticeably changed, the ergonomics of the cabin has become even better. Many note that the car is well controlled, especially with air suspension.

Tuareg speakers are enough even with the weakest engine for 204 “horses”. It can be purchased with both a diesel power unit and a gasoline one. It is also worth noting that the car is equipped only with automatic transmission - there are no other boxes.

As standard, which costs 3,430,000 rubles, it is equipped with a 2-liter engine with 249 horsepower. This amount includes the package "comfort", "memory", alloy wheels. There is a multimedia system, but the screen is normal - not touch.

If you are considering a diesel car, then its minimum cost is 3,600,000 rubles. Its power is the same as that of gasoline, but the volume is already larger - 3 liters. Also, the interior design will be different.

The Tuareg in the maximum configuration will cost almost 6 million, but for that kind of money it is not in special demand.

2.BMW X3

In second place is again "German", or rather "Bavarian". This car is exclusively for lovers of excellent dynamics, because it is able to accelerate to 100 km / h in just 6 seconds.

The appearance of the crossover betrays its sporting potential and is well recognizable. The X3 is best suited to young people, which explains the demand for a car among them.

The cost of a car starts from 2,420,000 rubles. Of course, then it will not show excellent acceleration, but for driving in urban conditions, this is quite enough. So, for this money, the crossover is equipped with a 2-liter engine with 184 horsepower, automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.

The "charged" version will cost 4,200,000 rubles. Then the motor will already be 360 horsepower. Outwardly, such a car is distinguished by an M-body kit.

3.Porsche Cayenne

Of the "Germans" it is worth considering Caen. It also has a sporty look. In the standard configuration, the car costs 6 million rubles. Of course, it is more expensive than competitors, but the equipment here is richer. Also, for the minimum price, you already get a car with a 340 horsepower engine, which is paired with an automatic transmission, as well as all-wheel drive.

Caen deserves special attention salon. It is very similar to the interior of the Panamera. After restyling, there are practically no buttons left here - everything is touch-sensitive. However, for such a price, the buyer does not expect anything else.

The most powerful version of the car is equipped with a 550 horsepower engine. With him, Caen shows acceleration to 100 km / h in a “magic” 3.9 seconds. In this version, the cost is already "passing" for 10 million rubles.

Of the premium crossovers, the Toyota Highlander also stands out. Compared to it, other models seem miniature. And this is not strange, because the length of the car is almost 5 meters.

The massive grille, which occupies almost the entire front part, makes the crossover look aggressive. The car does not look as prestigious as other participants in the rating, but its advantage is good cross-country ability and large capacity.

The Highlander is equipped with a 249 horsepower gasoline engine. in the minimum configuration, the car costs 3,650,000 rubles. The configurations do not differ much from each other here, so in the “maximum speed” the crossover will cost 3,820,000 rubles.

5.Audi Q7

In last place is the Audi Q7. The car is very interesting and comfortable, but at the beginning of the rating, unfortunately, it did not have enough space. The crossover looks very solid, emphasizes the status of the owner.

The initial cost of the car is 3,850,000 rubles. For this money, we already get adaptive air suspension, door closers, alloy wheels and other options. Diesel engine for 249 horsepower and a volume of 3 liters, gearbox - automatic.

You can also buy a car with a gasoline engine of the same power, but it will already cost 4,200,000 rubles.

Output

In this article, we have covered many crossovers and a couple of SUVs. After reading it, everyone will understand which crossover is better, based on their budget.

Crossovers can be expensive or relatively affordable, luxuriously finished or spartan in equipment, but by no means designed to take on the off-road. And compact models (length up to 4.6 meters, base up to 2.7 meters) are, for the most part, still city cars with a relatively small interior and trunk.

In this article, we present all compact crossovers - they are also called "SUVs" - officially sold in Russia. For those who cannot imagine their future all-terrain vehicle without an “automatic”, we indicate in brackets the minimum price with automatic transmission. So study, count and choose.

A couple of exceptions to the general rule: Rosgosstrakh, apparently starting from its statistics, raised the hull rate for Land Rover Freelander owners (a year ago - from 5.33%, now - from 8.29%), and MSK - for Ford Kuga (was - from 4.13%, now - from 5.86%). This does not spoil the picture at all, since it will not be difficult to find a more profitable option in other UK. The downward trend in rates is likely to continue. After all, this category is the most dynamically growing sector of the Russian car market, and the owners of such cars are quite wealthy people (the average cost of a compact crossover is about 1 million rubles) and, as a rule, take good care of their property.

We will not see here a single vivid illustration of the generally recognized principle “The more expensive the car, the lower the tariff”: even the relatively cheap Chery Tiggo can be insured against theft and damage at the same rate - 7-8% of the cost of a car as the Nissan X- trail, which is a third more expensive. And yet, the most modest percentage of the Casco tariff - from 3.78% - went to Mercedes Benz GLK at a price of under two million.

The policy for Yeti, Sportage, Tiguan will be inexpensive, but insurers clearly have questions about RAV4 and X-Trail. The reputation of the “Japanese” was tarnished by the high risk of getting into police reports as favorites of hijackers. However, the installation of a modern satellite anti-theft system (note that some insurers will simply not take “champions” in terms of theft under their protection without an ATP) can improve the situation pretty much: the discount for a “satellite” can reach 24% of the cost of the policy.

There are other ways to save money too. In the first months of the year, many insurers implement programs through dealers that provide favorable conditions for insuring certain models. Therefore, when choosing a car, it is useful to call several dealers and ask about the availability of special offers. Legal entities that insure several cars in one company or through one broker or agent can count on certain discounts, which, as a rule, are more willing to meet customers than the insurers themselves.

And, finally, almost all insurance companies offer unconditional deductible options that allow you to reduce the cost of the policy, depending on the size of the deductible, even by 30%.

BMW X1 from 1,274,000 (1,270,000) rubles.

The smallest of the Bavarian crossovers is 195mm shorter, 85mm narrower and 115mm lower than the new X3. But in terms of driving performance, it turned out to be very mature. Turns X1 writes no worse than cars, and a relatively small clearance and low-hanging bumpers hint that it is better not to meddle in real off-road.

But all-wheel drive, which can be obtained even in the relatively affordable “Special Series”, will make you feel more confident on slippery or wet roads.

Vortex Tingo from 499 900 rub.

The assembly of the well-known in Russia Chery Tiggo is being tried this time in Taganrog: under the freshly baked sonorous Vortex brand, only one letter has been changed in the name of the Chinese “SUV” model. You don’t really have to choose - you can only get a front-wheel drive version with a 1.8-liter “four” and a manual transmission. Equipment options - only two.

We believe that it is worth paying extra 10,000 rubles for the power mirrors, sunroof, as well as the mysterious “automatic interior lighting control”.

Jeep Compass from (1 245 920 rubles)

The first Jeep SUV in modern history is built on the same platform as the Dodge Caliber. The car surprises with an unconventional design, pleases with a spacious interior and generous basic equipment. And the finishing materials after the recent restyling, which turned the Compass into a smaller copy of the new Grand Cherokee, look noticeably more expensive.

That's just for the price of this rather interesting car again outdoes almost all of its competitors.

Jeep Liberty from (1,227,950 rubles)

"SUV", which appeared in Russia in the summer of 2007, is known in the United States as Patriot. But due to the fact that this name is assigned to the Ulyanovsk off-road vehicle, we called it Liberty. In fact, this is the same Compass with a slightly different appearance in the military style.

That's just from the whole variety of engines available for the American market, in Russia the car is sold exclusively with the most powerful and expensive 170-horsepower engine seasoned with a “variator”.

Kia Sportage from 839,900 (949,900) rubles.

Unlike insipid predecessors, the third-generation Sportage looks impressive and, perhaps, for the first time, really justifies its “physical” name. And the quality of interior trim has now reached a new level. Finally, thanks to a lower center of gravity (clearance reduced to 172 mm), the Sportage rides well on the highway.

The only pity is that the price of the "Korean" is more expensive than its Japanese competitors - even despite the fact that they assemble the car in Kaliningrad.

Land Rover Freelander from 1,174,000 (1,492,300) rubles.

A light chassis, a light transmission with a permanent front-wheel drive and an automatically connected rear-wheel drive - by all indications Freelander is a real "SUV". However, it has good geometric cross-country ability, an energy-intensive suspension and the Terrain-Rispons system, which optimizes the operation of the engine, gearbox and traction control, depending on the type of road surface.

High-torque turbodiesels are economical, and a 233-horsepower gasoline engine makes the prestigious all-terrain vehicle very dynamic. Last year, the car freshened up after restyling.

Mercedes-Benz GLK from (1,710,000 rubles)

The appearance of the most compact “SUV” with a three-beam star, whose sales began in the fall of 2008, evokes thoughts of the old warrior Gelendewagen. But the GLK has no frame at all, no serious off-road trappings like downshifts and locks, and it's based on the C-Class.

But still? thanks to its good geometric cross-country ability, as well as the successful union of an all-wheel drive chassis, powerful engines and a fast 7-speed “automatic”, the GLK can be called an excellent alternative to cars.

Mini Countryman from 940,000 (1,014,500) rubles

Although the ground clearance is only a modest 14mm higher than the regular Mini, the Countryman's suspension is more resistant to shock loads thanks to the forged wishbones. A truly full-fledged crossover, it can only be considered in the version Cooper S ALL4, which, taking into account the inevitable set of additional equipment, will easily catch up to one and a half million rubles.

With a powerful engine and all-wheel drive, this Mini will not be afraid of the “last mile” on the way to a country house.

Nissan X-Trail from 990,000 (1,037,000) rubles

Despite the outward resemblance to its predecessor, the second generation Nissan X-Trail is a completely new car created on a platform shared with the Qashqai model. The car became taller, wider and significantly longer, received a very comfortable trunk and a more advanced all-wheel drive transmission. The interior has been greatly improved.

In 2009, the production of X-Trail was mastered at the Nissan plant in St. Petersburg, which made it possible to make prices a little more attractive.

Nissan Qashqai from 753,000 (894,000) rubles

It is not easy to classify this car. In the basic version with a 115-horsepower engine, this is just a golf-class hatchback with increased ground clearance. Well, with a 2-liter engine and all-wheel drive - a full-fledged "SUV". In addition, the car has one of the best interiors in its class, an excellent CVT and the most affordable price among Japanese brands.

At the end of 2008, a version of Qashqai + 2 appeared with a base extended by 134 mm and two extra seats in a grown trunk.

Renault Koleos from 999,000 (1,119,000) rubles

"SUV", built on the same base as the Qashqai and X-Trail, debuted in 2008. The base petrol 2.5-liter engine is also borrowed from under the hood of Nissan, which allows us to call the relatively light Renault Koleos an inveterate sprinter. But even on long-distance voyages, you can safely use Renault - the energy-intensive suspension will not count every hole on the pavement.

In the “Dynamik” version, for an additional payment of 40 thousand rubles, in addition to a dozen pleasant little things, you will receive 4 airbags.

SsangYong New Actyon II from 799,000 (866,000) rubles.

Unlike its predecessor with a rather eccentric appearance, New Actyon, which came out from under the pen of maestro Giugiaro, looks pretty. Technically, the crossover has changed no less radically: instead of a frame - a load-bearing body, independent suspension and disc brakes.

At the same time, Actyon retained some all-terrain capabilities: for example, the ford depth is a commendable 30 cm. The assembly of the crossover began at the end of last year at the Far Eastern enterprise Sollers.

Subaru Forester from 1,037,700 (1,067,700) rubles

The third generation Subaru Forester has become completely different. Due to the increased size and more brutal appearance, the “Forester” is now much more like a real off-road vehicle than the all-wheel drive station wagon it was before. I am glad that the beginner's ground clearance is an impressive 215 mm, which, coupled with a reduction gear (1.45), will allow you to safely knead the suburban dirt.

This could not but affect the price - Forester has become noticeably more expensive. Perhaps the best would be a version of VR with a manual gearbox (there is no downshift with an automatic), which differs from the base 6-disc changer, xenon and alloy wheels.

Toyota RAV4 from 916,000 (1,036,000) rubles.

The Japanese “SUV” of the third generation resembles its predecessor only in name: it has noticeably increased in size, thanks to which the sofa and trunk have become much more spacious. Richer now and the basic equipment - seven airbags instead of two. The all-wheel drive transmission received a locking center differential, which can be useful on light off-road conditions.

After a recent restyling, the power of the base engine has grown, a modification with front-wheel drive has appeared.

Volkswagen Tiguan from 995,000 (1,197,000) rubles

Sales of new items began in the summer of 2008, and a little later, Tiguan production was launched at the company's plant near Kaluga. In our opinion, the most important feature of this car, which was based on the Golf, is its amazing handling. No crossover in the class, perhaps, can bring so much joy to an active driver.

But so that these qualities are not lost, choose an all-wheel drive version with an excellent 170-horsepower engine and a quick 6-speed “automatic”.

Ford Kuga from 999,000 (1,200,000 rubles)

Introduced in 2008, the fashionable all-wheel drive crossover conquers with its well-shaped forms, high-quality interior and powerful, economical turbodiesel. In addition, Kuga has a fairly spacious interior - after all, a model based on the C-Max compact van was created.

We consider the 163-horsepower turbodiesel that appeared at the end of last year to be the optimal power unit, which, with dynamics comparable to the gasoline “turbo-five”, has twice as modest appetite.

Hyundai IX35 from 899,900 (979,900) rubles.

The Tucson model changer bears little resemblance to its very popular predecessor. IX, which made its debut at the Frankfurt Salon in the fall of 2009, looks more modern, and the interior is hardly inferior to the best Japanese and European counterparts in terms of quality of finish and design.

The 2-liter petrol “four” has become more powerful, and the outdated automatic transmission has been replaced by a modern 6-speed “automatic”. In addition, now even the database has almost everything you need, with the exception of ESP.

Hyundai Santa Fe Classic from 795,900 (825,300) rubles

In April 2007, the production of the first generation Santa-Fe began in Taganrog, the production of which in Korea was discontinued a few years ago. The obviously outdated appearance and interior of the off-road vehicle is more than compensated by the price that is favorable by today's standards.

However, the plant will release the last batch of 700-800 cars this winter, after which the Classic assembly will be finally stopped. So if you like this Hyundai - you should hurry up.

Honda CR-V from 1,112,000 (1,220,000) rubles.

The “SUV” of the third generation, with a slightly shorter length, is slightly wider and lower than its predecessor, which, coupled with a rather predatory expression of the “face”, gave the appearance of aggressiveness. At the same time, the quality of finishing materials has increased, and the interior has become more spacious and comfortable.

At the height, by the standards of the class, handling, and the base 150-horsepower engine gives the car acceptable dynamics and is quite economical. It is curious that since 2006 the car has already undergone two restyling.

Chery Tiggo from 639 000 rub.

The Chinese SUV, which looks like the previous generation Toyota RAV4, has been on sale in Russia since December 2005. At one time, Chery Tiggo was even assembled in Kaliningrad, but now the situation is somewhat different - from China we receive an exclusively all-wheel drive modification with a 2-liter 136-horsepower engine in the only version of the equipment, and the version with front-wheel drive and a less powerful engine is now produced in Taganrog under own brand Vortex Tingo.

Skoda Yeti from 729,000 (789,000) rubles

With such a set of consumer qualities, Skoda will at least not yield to its main competitor - Qashqai, and in many ways will surpass it. It is gratifying that last fall, dealers began accepting orders for the long-awaited 4 x 4 version with automatic transmission.
