Rent a car in Alicante with full insurance. Car rental in Alicante

I continue to test car rental companies. I was crawling with flashlights in a dark hangar in Mallorca, looking for scratches. I proved to Goldcar in Portugal that the car is crap. In general, we continue to test rental offices. Today I will rent a car for €2 per day in Alicante. Let's see how much they'll charge me in the end?

Initial data: a car for 22 days in March of the VW Polo class. Pay attention to the month of March. It is important. In summer prices will be 2 times higher. But in the off-season, the cars are idle and rental companies organize promotions.

We begin the search through a broker, the one from the owners. We remove the most small machines, Goldcar and Centauro offers. I'm tired of these crooked companies. Every time there are some surprises in the contracts.

Why do I recommend looking at Rentalcars first? He will compare prices in almost all local popular offices. Will show the terms of the contract in Russian. They often provide free bonuses in the form of unlimited mileage and a full tank. In short, to understand the terms of the contract, it’s easier here. Choose an airport, there are more options.

Compare prices

Let's see how much a car costs at Hertz? For some reason, I still have prices in dollars, I will recalculate them - €226.82 or €10 per day.

In the comments they often say that it is more expensive here. It happens, but more often it’s the other way around.

We look at the prices on the Hertz website – €358.78 or €16. That is, €132 more expensive! Is it normal?

Reading the terms and conditions

Same as Hertz, but cheaper

And now the magic. There is such an office - Firefly, this subsidiary Hertz, like Dollar, Thrifty. They have a common fleet of brand new cars, but the rental conditions are different (most often). The same car Opel Corsa for 21 days it costs €44.99 or €2.38 per day. At random, it turned out that it is more profitable to rent for a number of days that is a multiple of 7, so I changed the number of days to 21.

We look at the terms of the contract, everything is in Russian. They block €950 on the card (more by €650), but the deductible is €1000 (less by €53). Rating – 8.1 excellent. Goldcar's rating is already approaching 6.

What should you pay attention to? Unlimited mileage. Gasoline, full or empty, is a favorite place to collect money from rental companies. They charge you for filling up, sell gasoline at the price of gold, and add VAT on top. Full price We will only find out upon receipt, but more on that below.

Payment Process

The money must be paid immediately. In case of cancellation they will be returned to the card.

After booking, a voucher will be sent to your email. It must be printed or shown on the phone screen upon receipt.

I'm getting a car. How much did you rip off?

At Alicante airport, the FireFly office is located next to Hertz. They have a shared parking lot. There was no queue to receive it. They didn’t ask for my international license, just my driver’s license, passport and credit card.

Upon receipt they asked if I would take full insurance. Full insurance per day costs €18. For my 21 days they offered it for about €300. I refused, but I don't advise you to. If you take full insurance, then nothing is blocked on the card.

€984 was withdrawn from the card. They removed it, not blocked it! So there is a chance of running into interest on a credit card if you are already in a grace period at the time of withdrawal.

When receiving the car, carefully fix everything, any scratch, if you did not take out full insurance. In the parking lot, together with the office employee, note the damage and make him sign. When handing over, you also note all damage. If they are, then ask them to sign them, take a copy for yourself so that nothing is added later.

What car did you get?

Issued Totyota Yaris. The speedometer shows only 14 km of mileage. The car is slightly smaller than the declared Opel Corsa. Our suitcases got in somehow. Engine 1.2l. I pulled somehow. And most importantly - there is no spare wheel! We discovered this a few days later.

There is cruise control. A normal radio with bluetooth and USB, but without a linear AUX input. The consumption turned out to be about 6 liters per 100 km. But the car is rather weak for mountainous areas. The same VW Polo or Seat Ibiza with a volume of 1.2 liters, they pull perfectly and our suitcases fit perfectly into the trunk.

How much did it cost in the end?

After returning the car, 5 days later the entire amount was returned and $105.36 was withdrawn. In euros it is €93.23. Below you can see that this amount consists of:

  • €3.30 just fee
  • €50 for 40l of petrol. €1.25 per liter excluding VAT.
  • €22.89 for refueling services
  • €16.18 VAT

Let's subtract from this amount the cost of a full tank of gasoline at a regular gas station - €50. We used this gasoline.

Total amount €88.23 or €4.20 per day. Very good even with all the fees!

In the end it turned out to be 2 times more expensive than stated. €88 instead of €45. Overall, I’m happy with the price and service of FireFly from Hertz. You can take it through, but with full insurance. You don't want to crawl around with a flashlight and look for scratches, do you?

How do I save on hotels?

It's very simple - look not only on booking. I prefer the search engine RoomGuru. He searches for discounts simultaneously on Booking and on 70 other booking sites.

We ourselves We do not rent cars, we are simply sharing with you useful information about rentals - links to company websites, rental conditions and some nuances.

Companies represented at Alicante Airport

  • The former Atesa company, which now operates under the name Enterprise (there are both in Madrid and Barcelona, and in general there are many offices in Spain). Available office not only at the airport, but also at Alicante railway station, in the city center.
  • Europa Rent a Car in Spanish and English
  • Hertz is a reputable company with all the ensuing consequences: fairly high prices, very expensive additional insurance for glass and tires, the requirement of an international license, adding a second driver for a substantial surcharge, expensive rental of child seats. But also service high level, the cars are new, in excellent condition. Available office not only at the airport, but also at the Alicante railway station, downtown.
  • Record Rent a Car
  • Sol-Mar
  • Gold car - now there is an office in the center of Alicante, opposite the railway station and 200 m from the final tram stop, "Luceros". The cars are standing on underground parking near.
  • Avis and its low-cost division Budget, have both offices at Alicante airport and Alicante railway station.
  • Centauro

  • Drivalia is a company with very low prices. Attention! office outside the airport, a couple of km, their shuttle will take you there (see details below).
  • Firefly - small English company economy class. ONLY mechanics
  • Ok rent a car is a new inexpensive company that quickly became popular

A number of companies car rental has its own racks in the arrivals hall (namely: Aurigacrown, Sixt, GoldCar, Avis, Centauro, Hertz, EuropeCar, Atesa, National, RecordGo, Firefly).

Some companies for example Laracars, greet clients with signs with their name at the exit from the closed arrivals area or among the counters of other rental companies.

A number of other companies, such as, for example, Aquacars, Sol-Mar, Drivalia and a couple of others have offices about a couple of kilometers from the terminal. To get there, you need to go down to floor -2 (minus 2), go outside and wait for the shuttle - a small minibus with 6-12 seats with the name of the company - on the very right side of the parking lot (if the terminal is located at the back). He will take you to your place, free of charge. Everything is simpler and faster than it might seem: you won’t spend much more time than if you rent through a company whose office in the arrivals hall can attract huge queues during the high season (like Goldcar).

Intermediary sites offering a choice of a number of companies

Despite the fact that the first thought when hearing the word “intermediaries” is usually about how much money this intermediary will have to pay, in reality such sites turn out to be not only very convenient, but most often not more expensive. You can always see this for yourself by checking the offer you like on the website of the proposed rental company.

Below is a list of several intermediaries that search a number of local car rental companies and give you a summary of prices and car categories, which saves time. After all, there is no way to definitely say which company gives favorable prices: With different conditions and the initial data (dates, terms, type of car and gearbox, number of drivers, etc.) it turns out more profitable in one or another company. And here the result is very clear.

  • Rental Car group - available in Russian, search for cars not only in Spain, but also in many other countries.
  • AutoEurope - available in Russian.
  • Doyuspain is an English mediator.
  • Orangesmile - available in Russian.
  • Cars Scanner - available in Russian.

Rental companies with offices in Benidorm

  • www.anastade.ru - Russian-speaking company, cars - only with automatic transmission.

Rental companies with offices in Calpe

Rental companies with offices in Torrevieja and Guardamar

  • Centauro
  • Goldcar
  • Record Rent a Car
  • Laracars
  • valgecars.com is a Russian-speaking car rental company located in Guardamar del Segura, it is possible to pick up a car at the airport or at another point on the Costa Blanca. All cars with automatic transmission, manufactured in 2012-2014, from economy plan to luxury class. The price on the website includes all taxes and insurance, mileage is not limited, but rental is possible for a minimum of three days. Cards and cash are accepted for payment. Child seats and navigation are free.

Rental companies with offices in El Campello

  • EdiCar - among other things, small cars with automatic transmission and minibuses with 9 seats (still category B) are available. You can also order a car to be picked up at the airport.
  • Coveta Xi is a small local company that also provides car rental services.

Rental companies with offices in Denia

There are probably more, but we didn’t specifically look for them in Denia.

The nuances of renting and using a rented car. IMPORTANT!

  1. Driving experience must be at least 1 year, sometimes - 2 years (depending on the company).
  2. Documents - only original driving license, copies will not be considered. Later, you can drive up to them again and add someone else as a driver, if necessary.
  3. Payment everywhere ONLY BY CREDIT CARD (often they require a credit card in the name of the driver or one of the drivers, check the rules), no cash. No, yours debit card will not work. No, it won’t work with money either :) Just take my word for it! The only possible exception is if you are paying full insurance, then some companies will take debit. Or very small companies may also accept it, but the surest way is to read the rental rules of the company. No one will take cash!
  4. Child seat. Don't forget to take it if there is a child in the car (up to 135 cm tall). Detailed article about child seats for different ages and weights -. When the police stop a car with a child without child seat is sent to a parking lot, and the driver receives a fine of 400 euros.
  5. Additional driver. Without additional payment can usually include two drivers (that is, one additional), for each additional one - 9-20 euros, or 1.5-2 euros per day. Sometimes the second one is paid, read the conditions.
  6. Usually offer additional insurance for minor damage - glass, tires, sometimes mirror scratches, this is an additional 20-30 euros, or 3 euros per day.
  7. Look office opening hours where you plan to rent a car. Typically, offices in the city are open from 9 to 20, at airports - from 7 to 00 or around the clock (more often). There is sometimes an additional fee for picking up and dropping off a car outside of normal hours, but often airport services will meet you halfway and guarantee that you will receive the car at any time (for example, if your flight is delayed). To do this, be sure to indicate the flight number on which you are arriving.
  8. Rental cost on average in summer about 20-25 euros/day for a small passenger car, in winter from 10. If you take more than 3 days, it’s cheaper.
  9. One more nuance (although it may not apply to all rentals, please check): if you rent a car for 3 days or less, then upon return you will be refunded for the remaining gasoline in the tank. If for more long term- then you will be asked to return the car with an empty tank... In general, it is better to find out the degree of fullness of the tank when receiving the car.

Actually procedures for receiving and returning a car simple to the point of indecency:

  1. Receipt: come to the rental office with a printed reservation, license (original), credit card, give everything to the girl at the counter, answer the question about additional insurance (whether you want it or not), get the keys to the car, the coordinates of its parking lot (usually the parking lot is located a little further from the office , m 100-200), already in the parking lot in a booth you receive a child seat, if ordered.
  2. Return: bring it, park in the company parking lot and give the keys (Usually to a booth in the parking lot. If no one is there, there is usually a box where you can throw the keys to the rental car). All. They won’t even look at the car in front of you - if anything, they have all your data. If the office is closed at this time, you need to throw the keys into a special hole near the office.
  3. Please note: very unpopular in Spain cars with automatic transmission gears, almost everything is mechanical. There are very few machines, and they are significantly more expensive, 1.5-2 times.
  4. Gas stations operate on average up to 23 hours! On major highways there are 24-hour services, but in cities they are rare!
  5. Be sure to book in advance online, and the sooner the better: you will save both finances (it’s more expensive on the spot, sometimes up to 30-40% difference), and nerves (you won’t worry whether you have what you want or not... usually there are a couple of cars freely available, of which - depending on your luck, there may be a single Alfa Romeo convertible, especially in the season), and time (don’t wait in line in vain to find out that there is nothing free). And further, if we are talking about July and August, That book in advance not only necessary, but also simple vital, otherwise you will be left with nothing.
  6. Payment daily, that is, if you rent a car for 3.5 days or 3 days exactly and 2 hours on top, you will pay for 4 days.
  7. International rights. Eternal question, are international ones needed? the answer is ambiguous. Local, medium-sized (usually also inexpensive) companies are quite satisfied with Russian rights of any type. Large companies operating around the world, like Hertz and Europecar, necessarily require international rights. You are required to show the same international ones to the policeman who stopped you - according to the laws. But the chance of such a check is negligible, unless you follow all the rules: rental cars are practically not touched, and locals are simply checked for the sake of checking very rarely.
  8. If you find yourself in a situation showdown with the police(parked where you shouldn’t, exceeded the speed limit, were not wearing a seat belt in ANY seat of the car) - behave with restraint, politely, don’t swear and don’t lose your license, admit your mistake, apologize, sincerely promise to improve - and you may be released without a fine or with a minimum.
  9. It is compulsory to wear a seat belt in any seat in Spain., including the rear ones! The fine is from 200 euros, paid not by the driver, but by the unbelted person himself. The driver is responsible for unbelted children or children without a child seat.
  10. Take a car in one city, return it in another. Be prepared for an additional payment in this case, most companies have it, budget ones for sure. Depends on the remoteness of the pick-up and drop-off points, on average - 50-120 euros.
  11. A relatively new rule in almost all companies: if you do not take out full insurance, then a very decent amount is frozen on your card as a guarantee, 950-1900 euros, depending on the category of the car (check the booking rules of the specific company), which is usually unlocked in within 15-30 days after returning the car (depending on the company and the bank).

What surprises await motorists on the roads of Spain?

A little from my own experience:

  • We highly, highly recommend that you take it with you from home. GPS(preferably knowing how to use it; learning “on the go” is quite problematic). You can, of course, rent a car with GPS here, but keep in mind, it is not a fact that it will have Russian language. GPS simply saves you if you plan not just to travel from home to the beach, but also to other cities and places. The signage system is not bad, but sometimes a little unusual, and there are also toll roads (you don’t always want to get on them) and entrances to major airports... (see below). As an option, a phone with navigation, for example, from Google maps, is suitable, but do not forget that they need internet, that is, either be prepared to pay for internet in roaming, or consider buying a local SIM card (you can find out about internet tariffs).
  • signage system. The Spaniards sometimes have a way of putting up signs with information about a congress not before it, but immediately after it... Until you get used to it, it’s unpleasantly surprising.
  • toll roads. Of course, they are in excellent condition, very comfortable and simply luxurious. But still, traveling along them is quite expensive, especially considering that there is often an excellent free one running parallel to it, which is not much worse. For example, very goodfree Alicante-Madrid highway (almost 500 km, almost the entire length is limited to 120 km/h). But from Alicante to Barcelona, using the paid and free routes gives a difference of 50 euros and 2 hours.

On average, it costs 1 euro per 10 km. But there are areas where they will charge you 3 euros every 10 km.

How to determine a toll road? its name will definitely contain the letter “P” - “peaje”, the name of the toll highway in Spanish. For example, AR-7 is a toll highway, and A-7 is a free highway, parallel to AR-7.

How to avoid toll roads? See your GPS settings, which indicate which road layout options are allowed: unpaved roads, crossings, etc., there are also toll roads, uncheck the box.

Parking in big cities. It’s very bad with free ones, especially in the centers of big cities. It is better to go to Barcelona or Madrid by public transport or leave the car somewhere on the outskirts, because... in their centers and paid parking not very many, and they are often very expensive (up to 4-6 euros per hour). Solid white and solid yellow markings along the roadside - parking is prohibited, blue and orange - paid, green - usually paid, free in August.

If you speak Spanish, then read the notes under the “no parking” sign: it often indicates the duration of the ban, for example, only during the day or except on weekends, or until lunch.

You will see that the Spaniards themselves often park haphazardly, in violation of all the rules, at their own peril and risk. Yes, punishment does not come often, the police do not wait around the corner with hungry eyes, hoping for a chance to fine you. But you can end up with a hefty fine (the car rental company will send it to your home address in your country) and a tow truck - both will cost a pretty penny, 100-300 euros in total, so it’s better to park your car in a paid parking lot , if nothing works with the free one. Information about paid parking is often reflected on signs throughout the city (indicates the direction, name and number of available spaces).

  • if the car is still towed, on the asphalt or wall next to the place where it stood, there will be a bright triangle with a drawn tow truck and a phone number, by calling which you can pick up the car. More details - .
  • Spanish drivers are quite careless: They often park without any exaggeration to the sound of an impact, and then it doesn’t matter what you hit - the curb or the neighboring car. And they practically never use turn signals. But nevertheless, although Spanish drivers are considered the worst in Europe (after Italian ones), driving here is much more pleasant and calmer than, say, in Moscow: usually everyone is quite calm, polite, willing to give in and let you pass.

We came to the conclusion that it is most convenient and profitable to rent a heel-type car, like the example in the picture. These are, for example, Volkswagwn Caddi, Citroen Partner, Fiat Dablo, Renault Kengoo, etc. These cars are comfortable, spacious, with a large trunk, and usually powerful enough to drive, for example, uphill (which is important for paragliders and lovers of little-traveled paths). However, they are usually diesel engine, which reduces fuel costs: usually 5-7 liters of diesel per 100 km when fully loaded.

And one more significant plus of this type cars - they are not in high demand in rental companies, and therefore are almost always in stock and have a low price compared to other cars of the same parameters, but more elegant in appearance.

General driving rules in Alicante

Alicante is one of the tourist centers of attraction in Spain. Well-developed resort infrastructure coupled with natural and climatic conditions make Alicante an attractive holiday destination, it is not surprising that the resort is visited by tourists and travelers from all over the world. One of the popular options on vacation is car rental in Alicante.

Firstly, a rented car gives you a certain freedom of action. Secondly, even if you are only going to travel around the resort, car rental in Alicante is so cheap that it will quickly cover possible travel expenses. Thirdly, in the vicinity of Alicante there are many interesting places to visit - glamorous Benidorm, charming Torrevieja, and if you move a little further, then noble Valencia, bustling Barcelona and the most popular amusement park Port Aventura. If you wish, you can even go to neighboring France. At the end of the article we will give approximate distances between settlements.

CucombreLibre/Spanish roads

Renting a car in Alicante is quite simple; the procedure itself will take no more than 20 minutes. You must have with you driver's license international standard and a bank card to pay for services. During high season it is recommended to book the car you need in advance through specialized services online, since there is a high probability that when booking on the spot you will not find the car you want and will have to choose from what is available. In the summer, especially in July-August, the car rental option in Alicante is extremely popular, and cars are sold like pie. In other seasons, the problem is not so acute, but still, booking in advance gives you a preferential right to choose a suitable car.

The rental procedure itself consists of choosing a car, inspecting it, signing an agreement, obtaining insurance and paying for services. Be prepared to have an amount on your bank card that is greater than the rental cost, since rental companies block the deposit on the card in case of unforeseen circumstances (fines, accidents, empty tank, etc.). The amount of the deposit, or collateral, depends on the class of car. By the way, you can rent a car in Alicante in any class, be it mini, economy, compact, medium-sized car, family car, minivan, convertible or SUV. You can choose a car with a manual or automatic transmission, with or without air conditioning, with or without built-in navigation.

Refuel in Alicante with gasoline 95 and 98 octane number, as well as diesel. Current fuel cost: a liter of gasoline costs from 1.47 euros, a liter of diesel fuel – from 1.02 euros. Gas stations in Spain are manual; the operating principle is similar to our gas stations.

Getting around Alicante is quite easy, the only problem can be finding free parking. As for paid parking, prices here are usually humane and do not exceed 1 euro/hour, which is lower than in most European cities. If you plan to travel outside of Alicante, it is important to know that roads in Spain can be tolled or free.

The quality of both types of routes is not too different from each other, Spanish motorways have a high-quality surface, but the speed of travel differs. On toll highways, permissible speed, as a rule, higher. Upon entry to paid section You will see a sign that says “peaje” or “P” and the name of the toll road. The cost of travel on toll highways varies from 1 euro per 10 km.

In some cases, other rules may apply; they need to be clarified during registration.

If you plan to travel outside of Spain, then this must also be indicated when drawing up the contract, then you will be offered to take out cross-border insurance. If you want to take a car at one rental point and return it at another, then most international rental offices provide this option, since they have offices throughout the country, but it is also advisable to clarify this in advance.

Rent a car in Alicante at the airport

Car rental at Alicante airport is in greater demand than at rental offices around the city, and this is understandable. Firstly, this allows you to solve the issue of transfer from the airport (the airport is located not in the city itself, but 10 km from it), and secondly, some tourists in this way can go on a trip directly from the airport.

At the arrival airport in Alicante, there are 16 suppliers at once - Firefly, Record, OK Rent a car, InterRent, Drivalia, Centauro, Goldcar, Thrifty, Avis, Rhodium, Hertz, Keddy, Sixt, Europcar, Flizzr, Dollar, and the rental car fleet is more than 280 cars. You can compare offers from all rental companies for the required dates on online booking sites:

is an international service for booking cheap car rentals in Europe and the world.

You can perform an independent search for specific dates*:

*Search is provided by the online car rental service Economybookings.

The rental offices themselves at the airport are located either in the arrival terminal in the “Car Rental Center” sector, or in the immediate vicinity of it (free shuttles to rental offices operate).

There are a lot of ideas and routes for traveling from Alicante. Below are the distances from Alicante to the most interesting places on the East Coast of Spain (the route numbers are clickable and show the driving route on Google maps):

Benidorm 45 km Route No. AP-7
Torrevieja 50 km Route No. N-332
Valencia 180 km Route No. AP-7

Barcelona 540 km Route No. AP-7
Madrid 420 km Routes No. A-3 and A-31
Granada 350 km Route No. AP-7
Almeria 290 km Route No. AP-7
Murcia 80 km Route No. AP-7
Cartagena 130 km Routes No. A-30 and A-7

In general, we can say that car rental in Alicante enjoys stable popularity, which grows exponentially in the summer. It is better to book a car in advance to be able to choose the desired class of car. When traveling long distances, it makes sense to use navigation; it will allow you to avoid toll roads by offering similar duplicate free routes. If you don’t plan to drive your car up the mountains, then you most likely won’t need an SUV. The roads in Spain are of excellent quality, which means that passenger car– this is an ideal option for movement.

We will be happy to answer your questions in the comments!

When going on a trip to Spain, do not forget to take out a travel insurance policy, which is mandatory already at the stage of obtaining a tourist visa. You can take out insurance yourself without leaving your home. There are special services for this, such as , and others. You can purchase a policy online and then print it on a regular printer.
