The rear brake parts can be removed when disassembling the brake mechanism and replaced with new ones. The exception is the slave cylinder. As practice shows, bulkheading it in garage conditions in most cases does not lead to the desired result. Therefore, in the event of a malfunction, we recommend replacing the working cylinder assembly.
Minimum permissible thickness of friction linings of rear brake pads brake mechanisms is 1.5 mm. Replace pads at following cases:
– the thickness of the friction linings is less than permissible;
– the surface of the linings is oily;
– the friction lining is not firmly connected to the base;
– there are deep grooves and chips on the linings.
WARNINGS
Do not use gasoline diesel fuel or any other mineral solvents for cleaning brakes. Replace the pads at the same time in both brake mechanisms. rear wheels. It is unacceptable to replace the front and rear pads between each other, as well as between the left and right wheels - this can lead to uneven braking.
You will need: wheel nut wrench, pliers or flat blade screwdriver, Phillips screwdriver, sliding pliers.
1. Engage 1st gear and install thrust blocks under the front wheels.
2. Check that the lever parking brake was lowered all the way down (the car was released).
3. Remove the wheel.
4. If the level brake fluid If the brake master cylinder reservoir is at or approaching the top mark, pump out some of the fluid from the reservoir.
5. Remove the brake drum (see “Replacing the brake drum”).
6. Remove the rear wheel hub (see "Replacing the rear hub").
7. Remove the spring from the automatic slack adjustment lever and disconnect the spring from the brake shoe.
8. Remove the automatic clearance adjustment lever from the brake pad.
9. Remove the top tension spring pliers or a screwdriver.
WARNING
Be careful when using pliers or a screwdriver. We recommend working with special pliers for removing tension springs.
10. Remove the lower tension spring in the same way.
11. Remove the spacer bar assembly with the gap adjuster.
12. Holding the shank of the support post with pliers, press the washer, turn it 1/4 turn...
13. ...and remove the washer, as well as support post rear pad.
14. Remove the front brake pad by similarly removing the front brake pad support post.
15. Remove the rear shoe by disconnecting the release lever from the parking brake cable.
16. Lubricate the threads of the spacer rod with a special high temperature grease for the brake mechanisms and screw the nut onto it completely, but do not tighten it.
17. Apply a thin layer of refractory brake lubricant to the areas where the front and rear brake pads rub against the brake shield.
WARNING
The left brake spacer and adjuster parts are not interchangeable with the corresponding right brake parts - do not mix them up!
18. Using sliding pliers, compress the brake cylinder pistons and install the brake pads in the reverse order of removal.
WARNING
Please note that when the pistons are recessed into the cylinders, the level of brake fluid in the master cylinder reservoir increases. If necessary, pump out the liquid.
19. Install the brake drum.
20. Adjust the gap between the brake pads and the drum by pressing the brake pedal 10–15 times.
21. Reinstall the wheel. Check that it rotates easily.
22. Replace the brake pads of the other wheel in the same way.
23. After installing the brake pads, adjust the parking brake system (see “Adjusting the parking brake drive”).

How to change rear brake pads on a Hyundai Accent
Remove the wheel and brake drum
Remove the brake shoe support clamp, auto adjuster spring and adjuster arm, then press the rear drum shoes and remove the shoe adjuster
Remove the brake pads along with the return springs. Measure the inner diameter of the brake drum. Using a dial gauge, check the brake drum runout. Replace the brake drum if the inner diameter of the drum exceeds the maximum permissible value. Max diameter: 200 mm and brake drum runout: 0.015 mm
Measure the thickness of the rear brake pads. Replace all brake pads on one axle of the vehicle, even if only one pad is below the maximum thickness. Minimum permissible thickness: 1.0 mm. Check the brake pad linings for oil or grease contamination, wear and cracks. Inspect the workers brake cylinders for any brake fluid leaks. Inspect the brake shield for wear or damage.

The brake pads of the rear wheel mechanisms must be replaced only at the same time - in a set of four pads. Replacing the pads of only one brake mechanism can lead to the car pulling to the side when braking.
If the brake fluid level in the reservoir is at the “MAX” mark, use a medical syringe or a rubber bulb to pump out some of the liquid from the reservoir so that when the piston is recessed into the cylinder, the liquid does not flow out from under the reservoir cap.

The process of replacing brake pads and drums on a Hyundai Accent
1. In order to remove the drums, you first need to loosen the handbrake. It loosens under the plastic console. The plastic is attached with two screws. You can see the location in the picture below.
2. Using a key set to twelve, loosen the handbrake.
3. We dismantle the wheel.
4. Take a shaped screwdriver and unscrew the two screws.
5. Gently tap brake disk, and shoot.
6. We disassemble the brake mechanism and remove the tension springs. I advise you to take a couple of photos before disassembling. Then you can put everything back together without any problems.
8. Remove the pads by pulling them to the sides.
The left block contains the handbrake cable; the cable must be removed separately.
9. Let's start installing new pads.
The left block with the metal piece for the handbrake should be inside. I advise you to remember how you removed it and put it back, only with a new block.
10. Take pliers and install the handbrake cable into the left block.
11. Take the right block, install it, and fix it with a “soldier”.
12. We return to the left block and install the mechanism as shown in the photo below.

16. We adjust the handbrake.
We tighten the handbrake and try to rotate the wheel. The cable must be tensioned so that the wheel rotates easily, but at the same time, when you tighten the handbrake, the car is stationary.
