What does the charged version of the audi a4 b5 look like. Bad owner reviews about the Audi A4 B5. pros and cons compared to peers

The first generation of the Ingolstadt "four" received the B5 index. The AUDI A4 B5 was developed over five years, the serial Audi sedan was introduced in 1994. Based on the year the production began, we can conclude that the “four” is the same age as the executive one, but the direct competitors of the model were other elite representatives of the “D” class: and. The B5 is built on the same platform as the Passat. The model turned out to be quite in demand, in 1995 alone 290,000 cars were sold, despite the fact that the plan for the year was 250,000. In 1998, the millionth car was sold. A4 production ended in 2001.

External review of the Audi A4 B5

In 1994, only a sedan was introduced, but a year later, a station wagon entered the market, with its own name - Avant. The universal capabilities of the latter were complemented by roof rails, they are not superfluous at all, since the volume of the luggage compartment of the Ingolstadt car cannot be called a record. The wagon premiered in Bologna. Audi door handles in both types of bodies are made under the lower grip - this is a trend of bygone years. The body itself is galvanized and if the car did not tolerate poor quality body repairs, then you will not see rust even on the body of copies of the first years. The car is fitted with 195/65 R15 tires.

Salon and Equipment

The dashboard is made in the traditional style for the brand - white instrument scales and red arrows. There are no deep "wells" as in newer machines, but this does not harm readability. The basic equipment of the cheapest car included front power windows, central locking, front airbags. The front seats can be adjusted in height. The optional seat heating has six modes. On the center console, the triangular emergency gang button dominates, to the right of it there is a retractable cup holder. The climate control unit is located below. The rear sofa is able to comfortably accommodate two passengers, but tall people can rest their knees on the back of the chair, and three will be too cramped in the shoulders. As it was written above, the station wagon trunk is not very roomy - only 390 liters, this is clearly not enough for a station wagon, even a sedan holds more - 440 liters. Our motorists will surely like the presence of a full-size spare wheel, and not a dokat.

Technical part and characteristics of the Audi A5 B5

The least powerful 1.6-liter gasoline unit has an eight-valve cylinder head and produces 101 horses. The next most powerful is the 1.8l 20v (five valves per cylinder) - 125 hp, the turbocharged 1.8t version produces 150hp. Six-cylinder units have more power: 2.4 - 165hp, 2.8 - 193 hp. It is worth remembering that Audi six-cylinder units eat up oil and its level should be monitored, because during oil starvation scoring may appear, and the oil pressure lamp may not light up.

The 1.9t diesel engine produces 90 and 110 forces (depending on the modification), such an engine was installed on the Volkswagen Passat of those years. The most powerful diesel engine - 2.5t V6 produces 150 forces and allows you to develop 220 kilometers per hour on the highway.

In gasoline units, the oil should be changed at least once every 15,000, and the 2.5t diesel engine is especially demanding on the quality of the oil, it should be changed every 7,000 km.

The timing belt should be replaced after 60,000 km, although the manufacturer indicates 120,000, but there are cases of belt breakage after 70,000 km.

Already in the basic equipment there is ABS and power steering.

Unlike most representatives of the “D” class, the front of the A4 has a multi-link suspension, not McPherson. It is the front multi-link, with four levers for each wheel, that provides the car with excellent handling and stability. But this design is not very reliable, the upper levers go longer than the lower ones, it is advisable to change the lower ones every year during the constant operation of the German. Some owners have decided to inject ball joints by passing the needle through the anther - this allows you to increase the life of the lower arms by 7,000 - 10,000 km. The ball joints themselves are pressed into the lever and change together. Luckily for owners, in 1998, new lower control arms began to be installed that are capable of reaching 40,000. Almost all AUDI A4 B5s that drive on the roads today are already equipped with such control arms, even if they were released before 1998.

At the beginning of the production of the B5, ball joints were installed in the stabilizer struts, they were designed for a run of 20,000. 60,000.

Front wheel bearings and steering tips live for 50 - 70 thousand km.

The rear suspension of front-wheel drive versions is generally more enduring than the front, but the rear wheel hubs live less: 30,000 - 40,000. Maintenance of the Quattro rear suspension will cost three times more.

Shock absorbers serve for 70,000 - 100,000.

ABS sensors are not very reliable, they usually ask for replacement once a year.

Spark plugs should be changed every 30 - 40 thousand, and not 60,000 - as indicated by the manufacturer.

As a checkpoint, a five-speed mechanics and an automatic four and five steps are offered. In an Audi machine, an oil change should be carried out at 50 - 60 thousand. It is very important to fill in ATF (recommended by the manufacturer), and not Dextron - many people pour it. The clutch on the manual gearbox serves 130,000 - 150,000.

Six-speed mechanics are found only on the sports S4 and RS4. The RS4 has been produced since 1999 and only in the station wagon body. Under the hood of the RS4, a turbocharged 2.7 V6 was installed, which produced 380hp and allowed you to gain 200km in 17.7s, it takes 4.9s to accelerate to the first hundred. The S4 has the same size engine, but produces a less impressive 265bhp.

Let's pay attention to the technical characteristics of AUDI 1.8t quattro with mechanics, sedan.

Price

Today, a well-maintained AUDI B5 costs $8,000 to $12,000.

The first generation Audi A4 debuted in 1994. Like its predecessor, the Audi 80 B4, it has a longitudinally mounted engine and front-wheel drive. More expensive versions were equipped with Quattro permanent all-wheel drive.

In 1998, the A4 underwent a slight restyling. After the update, chrome window trim appeared, the door handles were painted in body color, and the headlights became solid. Technically, the car has not changed much.

Audi A4 B5 was distinguished by exemplary anti-corrosion protection and high quality workmanship. The gauges on the dashboard are easy to read and the front fascia looks quite attractive, even today. It is made of high quality plastic. But the durability of materials, alas, is not sensational.

Engines

Petrol:

  • R4 1.6 (101 HP), R4 1.8 (125 HP), R4 1.8T (150-180 HP);
  • V6 2.4 (165 hp), V6 2.6 (139-150 hp), V6 2.8 (174-193 hp);
  • V6 2.7BiT (265 hp) - S4 version, V6 2.7BiT (380 hp) - RS4 version.

Diesel:

  • R4 1.9 TDI (75, 90, 110-115 hp);
  • V6 2.5 TDI (150 hp).

The range of power units is very wide. Almost all of them are worthy of recommendation, with the exception of the V-6s. Advantages include simple design, high strength and availability of spare parts. However, a lot depends on service and actual mileage. Therefore, never believe the seller's assurances that the engine runs like clockwork.

In gasoline engines, the throttle valve costing from 10,000 rubles often fails. Beware of Chinese fakes - they do not last long.

Turbocharged engines impress with flexibility and reliability. When purchasing, it is necessary to check the compression and tightness of the valves.

Most of the 1.9 TDIs have gigantic mileage, which is also twisted. Nevertheless, even in the event of a “hit” on a knowingly faulty unit, bringing it into working condition will not require large financial costs. True, it should be borne in mind that after 300-400 thousand km, there is a high probability of wear of the distribution pump (from 13,000 rubles) and camshaft cams (from 10,000 rubles). Advantages of the 1.9 TDI: durability, low fuel consumption and the ability to increase power - tuning.

V-shaped motors are already seriously worn out. The 2.8-liter petrol unit suffers from problems with the oil pump. The 2.5 TDI is very tricky. With high mileage, camshafts wear out. In addition, it is uneconomical and expensive to maintain and repair.

Even worse, if an automatic transmission is installed in a pair of turbodiesels. It should be borne in mind that about 60,000 rubles will be needed to repair the machine. Fortunately, the very problematic Multitronic (CVT) was not used here.

Chassis

Despite the overall positive reputation, the Audi A4 B5 has one weak point - a multi-link front suspension. It is made of light-alloy metals and therefore sometimes wears out after several tens of thousands of kilometers. In addition, the front suspension is expensive to repair. The cost of a set of new levers is from 10 to 20 thousand rubles. For the work will have to pay an additional half.

The owners of all-wheel drive modifications are not in the best position either. There is also a multi-link suspension at the back. In front-wheel drive versions, a fairly durable torsion beam is installed.

Typical problems and malfunctions

In a 20-year-old car, it is difficult to identify typical faults. Given the age, anything can break. Especially in old copies. Fortunately, well-maintained A4 B5 rarely break down, and in case of problems they do not require special knowledge and special services.

Over time, the power steering pump often starts to make noise. Leaks appear in the cooling system through the pump, radiator and rubber hoses. Old age becomes the main reason for the failure of the central lock, generator, starter and lighting of the air conditioning controls.

The airbag malfunction indicator light comes on intermittently. The reason is the disconnection of the contact under the seat or the loss of contact in the steering wheel. There are widespread problems with the windshield wiper mechanism. To restore performance, it is enough to replace the bushings and pins. In older copies, pixels burn out on the on-board computer display.

Market situation

The first generation Audi A4 is a fairly popular car in our market. One of the leading classifieds portals has about 1,000 listings for sale. Prices are very diverse: from 100,000 rubles for a copy on the go to 400,000 rubles for a well-maintained car.

The difference in condition is enormous. More expensive cars, as a rule, have no signs of corrosion and boast a good interior. Rust, if found, is only on the elements of the suspension and exhaust system.

Copies from the lower price range often have a shabby interior and a body that "shimmers" in various colors or shades (the consequences of inexpensive repairs). In addition, owners of old A4 B5 often refuse high-quality repairs that require decent costs. Such an instance soon turns into a hackneyed wagon. Then the next owner falls on the shoulders of: a major overhaul of the engine and gearbox, patching holes and updating the suspension. If the car requires all these works, then the costs will be comparable to the cost of the car itself.

Wiring diagram audi a4 b5

It may be useful Book with wiring diagrams Audi a4 in PDF format: ""

The transmission design has no obvious weaknesses, but the age of the cars, games in the "constructor" and the high cost of some spare parts and assemblies can be alarming.

In the case of a manual transmission, dual-mass flywheels on V 6 30V and 1.8T engines fall into the risk zone. They can be replaced with conventional ones, for clutch with a damper disc. However, this will require the replacement of many parts at once, so a typical repair option is to install a “used” flywheel. Repair of this part is now available, and there is no need to delay it: in case of destruction of the flywheel, both the manual transmission housing and the starter can be broken. The rest of the boxes fail for purely resource reasons and due to careless handling.

The high price of a manual transmission for diesel engines provokes the installation of manual transmissions from gasoline engines to diesel engines. Therefore, when buying, you need to make sure that the gear ratios in the “gasoline” box are also acceptable for a diesel engine.

Boxes for naturally aspirated gasoline engines of 1.6 liters and 1.8 liters are usually with large gear ratios, and even for a 1.8 T manual transmission is too “slow”, so there is always a demand for “mechanics” from powerful engines with a “long” pair. They are in short supply, which makes them two to three times more expensive.

Oil leaks from the main pair and from the gearshift mechanism are a typical problem that usually leads to gearbox failure. It is advisable to listen to the operation of the box with the wheels suspended and be sure to check the play of the axle shafts.

All-wheel drive cars are no different from front-wheel drive cars in terms of costs, the rear gearbox is quite reliable. Of course, as long as it has oil in it, the engine is not too forced and the car is not involved in drag racing. The driveshaft resource as a whole is more than 200-250 thousand kilometers during normal operation, but on an old car it is worth checking it carefully. The cost of rebuilding a gimbal can be significant, and serious damage can occur, requiring you to find a used replacement part or buy a new one.

With automatic transmission, things are a little more complicated. The peak of the car’s popularity came just at the time when the “automatic” was simply replaced with a manual transmission in case of a breakdown, so there were relatively few cars with automatic transmission left. And those that are, were mainly equipped with a four-speed box of the 01N series of Volkswagen development. This is a very popular transmission with electronic control and forced blocking of the gas turbine engine, a sort of "hit" of the brand in the mid-nineties. They put it with gasoline engines of 1.6 liters and 1.8 liters, with diesel engines of 1.9 liters, with front and all-wheel drive. The box options on cars before restyling and after restyling seriously differ in the electronic control system and are not interchangeable.

With 1.8T engines and with all V 6 engines, they installed mainly automatic transmission 01V, better known as ZF 5HP 19. This automatic transmission is one of the most progressive and common "five-speed" of the nineties. It has a very successful design and a good margin both in terms of strength and resource. It is well mastered in repair and is being restored well, unless, of course, it is taken to extremes.

In general, there are quite a few options for boxes on the Audi A4 B5, but the future owner needs to know two things: on pre-styling cars they are without a CAN bus, and on restyled cars they have a CAN bus and with “tiptronic” for American and late European cars.

In the photo: Audi A4 Avant (B5,8D) "1995–2001

Front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions of automatic transmissions are structurally different: they have different fillings that are not always compatible with each other, and sometimes gear ratios differ. However, in many ways, the parts of the boxes are interchangeable, and in terms of the mechanical part, even automatic transmissions from BMW and Audi cars have compatibility. But still, when looking for spare parts, I recommend that you carefully study the catalogs, and for replacement it is better to find an automatic transmission with the same factory code as it was. Although, as practice shows, a competent master can pick up spare parts from other boxes.

In operation, both boxes (01N and 01V) are very reliable, but the five-speed 01V (ZF5HP19) is still a little better: it is less prone to overheating even at high mileage, has a developed self-diagnosis system and is more maintainable.

The main malfunctions of this box are related to the wear of the valve body valves due to oil contamination and wear of the gas turbine engine linings. If the box worked for a long time with worn solenoids, insufficient oil pressure due to leaks and a clogged filter, then wear of the oil pump, its bushings and other elements should be expected. The main pressure linear solenoid traditionally suffers first, damage to which leads to bumps and jerks during switching, and this malfunction provokes additional malfunctions of the mechanical part.

With systematic overheating, the electronic filling of the automatic transmission, sensors and wiring suffer. But if you regularly change the oil, do not overheat the unit and drive carefully, this box can go 200-350 thousand kilometers without repair. If the driver liked to “press the slipper”, the gas turbine engine may require replacement of linings for runs up to 180-200 thousand, but in general this is an excellent example of German engineering of the nineties.

The five-speed 01V tolerates active movement well, and even provokes it: it has a large margin of transmitted torque. No wonder it was installed even with 2.7-liter turbo engines in the all-wheel drive version. "Atmospherics" up to 2.8 liters, it also withstands effortlessly, and even seriously tuned 1.8T engines are not a problem for it. Of course, bringing such a box to a deplorable state for Russian drivers costs nothing. Fear of an oil change, unwillingness to modify the cooling system, movement with a gas turbine blocking error will absolutely kill any “automatic”, and 5HP 19 too.

The four-speed 01N is noticeably weaker, but on the A4 only fairly low-power motors were paired with it, so everything was fine in terms of load. The maintainability of this automatic transmission is also good, and it has long ceased to confuse service masters.

The resource is almost the same as that of 01V: it can pass the same 200-300 thousand kilometers with careful handling. There are also instances with high mileage without traces of repair, but this is rare. Usually, an inexpensive, but voluminous intermediate repair is required, after which the box can work for the same amount.

In this automatic transmission, partial blocking of the gas turbine engine is very actively used, especially on restyled cars, as a result, the design heats up more and tolerates overheating and active movement worse. The abundance of plastic parts in the design of the mechanical part entails, after the very first overheating, the risks of serious damage and a quick loss of resource. After the destruction of the plastic separators of the bearings and washer washers, the box begins to make unpleasant mechanical sounds and howls, in which case it is better to open it immediately.

The valve body is quite capricious and does not tolerate working with contaminated oil. The resource of solenoids in this case drops sharply, and the restoration of some elements requires the use of Sonnax repair kits. Yes, and the rubber seals of the box cease to hold pressure with age, and overheating finishes them off even faster. If you change the oil often, prevent overheating (better by installing an additional automatic transmission radiator) and monitor the health of the electronics, then this automatic transmission will please both the resource and the cost of repairs.

Unfortunately, due to the design features, the box has been able to drive for years with shocks and in old oil, which finishes off the design so much that there is nothing to repair. On the A4, the problem is complicated by the fact that they put it on the most budget versions of the car, which are serviced on average worse than more expensive and powerful specimens. And the design of the cooling system of the box easily allows overheating on older units even in winter.

Motors

Almost all the engines on the A4 B5 are already known to you from my own reviews. 1.6-liter engines are old friends, eight-valve ADP / AHL / ARM / ALZ, well known from the Golf III / IV and. Moreover, if the first versions of the engine can still boast of an ignition distributor, then the latter already comply with Euro-3 standards and have been significantly redesigned: they have separate ignition modules.

1.8 liter engines are the first versions of the "downsized" engine of the ADR / APT / ARG / AVV series, and 1.8 T engines belong to the AEB / APU / ANB / AWT / ARK / AJL series. All of them are familiar to you from the Passat B 5, and some other cars already discussed earlier.

Engines with a volume of 2.6 and 2.8 liters of the ABC and AAH series are the old twelve-valve engines that were on the Audi A 6 C 4, very reliable, simple and resourceful. They were put on the A4 before restyling and were highly respected for the low cost of operation and high-torque.

The 2.4 liter and 2.8 liter engines of the AGA /ALF /APS /ARJ /AML and ACK /ALG /APR /AMX series already belong to the new generation V 6. They are based on the same cylinder block, but they have completely different cylinder heads with five valves per cylinder and an additional chain in the intake camshaft drive (the exhaust camshaft and crankshaft were still connected by a belt).

On the sports versions of the S 4 and RS 4, there are bi-turbo versions of the same 2.7-liter engines of the AGB / AZB and ASJ / AZR series.

There are very few diesel engines - they did not fit well with the imposed sports image of the brand. The range included in-line "fours" with a volume of 1.9 liters, a naturally aspirated AFF with 75 hp. and supercharged with a power of 90-115 hp, series 1Z / AHU / AHH / AFN / AVG with a classic injection pump. The most powerful variants of the AJM / ATJ are equipped with capricious unit injectors. However, all these diesel engines enjoy a well-deserved reputation for successful, high-torque and reliable engines.

Diesel V 6 series AFB / AKN are considered not very reliable (by diesel standards). There are enough problems, even despite the use of classic injection pumps. But these engines also have an advantage: diesel 150 hp. noticeably more cheerful than gasoline 193 "horses".

A common problem for all motors at this age is a compact cooling system, often dirty or with Chinese radiators of reduced area, leaks, non-original tubes, poor pump design on all V 6 motors, and the deplorable state of wiring and sensors. Almost all engines have difficulties associated with both leaks in cooling systems and leaks in the crankcase ventilation and intake systems.

Their catalysts are either cut out or clogged for a long time and need to be replaced, workable ones can no longer be found. Well, attachments are usually extremely worn out and sometimes do not meet factory specifications.

Breakage of plastic intake systems and various protective and decorative casings is also a common occurrence. During the inspection, it is worth paying close attention to the absence of traces of "collective farming", the introduction and removal of HBO and, oddly enough, the presence of all motor components. For some reason, people who consider it normal to remove not only catalysts, air conditioning, battery casings and engine cover, but also the crankcase ventilation system, radiator electric fan and standard air filter, replace it with a filter of zero resistance. Apparently, the image of a strong and non-rotting machine affects.

1.6L 8-valve engines are pretty good, not only if you need 101 horsepower. In practice, in urban mode, they are usually really enough, but on the highway, the lack of power is already obvious. These motors are quite high-torque, but if they are operated mainly at low speeds, the piston group can coke.

The simplicity of these engines makes it possible to hope for a low cost of operation, except that the ADP is distinguished by a mechanical distributor and a limited resource of this important part of the ignition system. By now, motors have usually already gone through one or two overhauls. The resource before the first repair is about 250-300 thousand, which can be considered quite a solid indicator. But then it all depends on the quality of work. But the engine as a whole is unpretentious, besides, there are many more “younger”, but compatible variants of the cylinder block, so that the age of cars with it will be long and it is limited only by the endurance of the A4 body.

A series of 1.8 liter engines is relatively new, it appeared just on the A4 / A 6 of those years. They are distinguished by a more complex timing with five valves per cylinder. The most powerful variants of supercharged engines with intake phase control have their own problem areas. First of all, this is an oil heat exchanger and a reconfigured cooling and crankcase ventilation system.

Common problems with 1.8-liter engines are chain noise, worn chain tensioners, heat and oil exchanger leaks, coolant tee leaks with a temperature sensor, and a clogged crankcase ventilation system.

In turbocharged versions, the oil supply pipe to the turbine is coked, and the KKK 03 turbines themselves, which mostly stood here, are not very reliable. Rarely seen IHI (Mitsubishi TD 04) look better and more easily withstand the rigors of work.

A very reliable piston group and a well-thought-out design allow us to hope that the engine, with runs over 300 thousand, is not yet awaiting overhaul, and there are good chances for this. Usually the reason for sending the engine in for repair is the failure of auxiliary systems.

Separately, I note that the motors have a good boost margin, and it is quite possible to modify them a little to improve the reliability of the system. For example, to supply later versions of turbines, power supply and ventilation systems. The services also learned how to repair “damned” hydraulic chain tensioners: the entire assembly is sorted out, and the chain shoes are selected from Porsche assemblies (from 944 engines) or ordered from Chinese or even our manufacturers. And rubber products can be easily selected from an extensive catalog.

The ignition and power systems of these engines are extremely reliable. Of course, the ignition module on atmospheric engines is cheaper to replace, but individual coils on turbocharged units are no less durable, and you can change them separately if necessary.

V 6 engines with two-valve block heads are traditionally considered one of the most reliable Audi engines in principle. A large margin of structural strength, resistance to overheating, poor gasoline and oil, a simple and maintainable design, it would seem, provide them with an almost eternal life. In practice, the situation looks sad: the car is completely stopped serving.

The “innate” shortcomings include an unsuccessful pump and the design of the crankcase ventilation system. In addition, the relatively small resource of the timing belt often leads to serious breakdowns.

The engines have a good fuel appetite. And yet, if you find a car with such a motor in good condition, then take it safely. And if you also live outside large settlements with a shortage of good craftsmen, then this is exactly what you need.

Newer engines with 30 valves inherit a number of advantages and disadvantages from V 6 and 1.8 liter engines. They have the same cylinder head design - respectively, and they have common problems.

These engines are noticeably more economical than the old V 6 engines, the difference in average consumption is not less than a liter and a half, which is especially evident in urban modes. Also, the pluses include a higher timing resource and control electronics, thanks to which the motors can easily tolerate any gasoline. There is no need to be afraid of these units, although with the same power, supercharged 1.8T is still cheaper to operate.

Supercharged versions of these engines are a welcome option for swapping into any car. And at the same time, I note that there are very few versions of S 4 and RS 4 in the original state. Often these cars are the product of the refinement of cheaper cars with a “swap” of engines from the A 6 Allroad (2.7 l, 250 hp) with tuning. They have smaller forcing reserves, which significantly increases the cost of operation and the risk of being left without a motor at all. Not entirely successful layout also affects: the turbines are under the engine, there is nowhere for an apple to fall in the engine compartment. But that doesn't stop the fans.

Summary

Audi A4 B5 is quite interesting so far, especially in terms of ergonomics, driving performance and safety. But in comparison with the "relatives" on the platform, it was not in vain that it turned out to be cheaper. The design of Audi is noticeably more raw, pre-styling cars can generally be called a risky choice. For all its merits, it is clearly no better than a slightly more advanced Passat, Superb or even A 6 C 5.

Simple V 6 engines do not please with fuel consumption and electronics reliability, although they are structurally simple and have a good resource.

And yet, the car turned out to be long-playing, with a very slowly corroding body and a good set of basic units. If you are attracted by the magic of rings, then take it, but a restyled copy is better, without unskilled modifications and with a 1.8T engine, other options look less advantageous. And do not be afraid of a multi-link suspension: it has not been so expensive to repair for a long time, but it lasts a long time. And most importantly - do not rely on the magical "ZZZ" in the VIN number: galvanization is not eternal, and the main attention should be paid to inspecting the body.

Would you take an Audi A4 B5?

In fact, we can assume that the Audi A4 B5 is 80 due to the fact that in 1994, Audi decided to make a deep restyling of the 80th and give it the name A4. It was produced in a sedan body, but later a station wagon body appeared. In all its dimensions, the model was almost the same as the Audi 80, so in the cabin, there are also things reminiscent of the 80th.

The first body was considered an experiment and was built on the same platform as the 5th generation Volkswagen Passat. As already mentioned, only the size remained from the predecessor, but they also took a 2.6-liter engine, modified it a bit and began to use it in the new model, but after that it also disappeared from the car.

A lot of different technologies were used, but the company did not include all these technologies in mass production, they had to refuse a lot, for unknown reasons. The Audi A4 is very similar to the Passat of those years, they differed only in body shapes and interior, everything else was almost the same. As a result, this model received a status from buyers not as an ordinary car, but as a more solid car, and because of this, it began to compete well with cars in the D-class.

Cars in this body were sold 1,690,000 units.

Exterior

The appearance is certainly outdated by modern standards, a smooth embossed hood, narrow halogen headlights and a small chrome grille, all this looks far from modern. The massive front bumper has plastic protection and air intakes, but still this model does not justify.

The profile is as simple as possible, slightly swollen wheel arches, plastic protection at the bottom and, in fact, there is nothing more interesting here. At the back, small halogen headlights are used, an embossed trunk lid of the Audi A4 B5, which visually forms a spoiler with its shape, but in reality it is not. The massive rear bumper is equipped with a plastic insert and there is nothing else on it.

Body dimensions A4:

  • length - 4479 mm;
  • width - 1733 mm;
  • height - 1415 mm;
  • wheelbase - 2617 mm;
  • ground clearance - 110 mm.

There was also an Avant wagon body, which was distinguished by its high capacity and slightly better cross-country ability.

Salon Audi A4 B5

The interior, of course, will not surprise you either. There are good leather chairs here, but the truth is in expensive versions, which are quite rare. The seats are really comfortable, people of almost any build will feel comfortable on them. There is enough space for both legs and head. The back row has a sofa for three passengers with an armrest, there is also enough space, but unfortunately there is not much of it.

The steering wheel of the car can be both 3-spoke and 4-spoke, it is sheathed in leather and is adjustable in height and reach. The instrument panel is a set of bulbs in case of something malfunctioning, as well as analog gauges for the speedometer, tachometer, fuel level and oil temperature.

The center console received oval-shaped air deflectors, below we can notice the light control buttons, and already under all this we are greeted by a head unit, which is no longer found. Below is the separate climate control control unit, but it was in 1994. It's a couple of monitors and some buttons to control it all.

The tunnel has a small ashtray, a cigarette lighter, a rather large gear selector, a parking brake handle and a huge armrest. The trunk is very important in such cars, there is a fairly roomy luggage compartment with a volume of 440 liters, which can be increased to 720 liters by folding the seat building.

Specifications Audi A4 B5

The model had in its lineup just a huge number of power units, which are very reliable, as they still drive. These units are not economical by modern standards, since the base one already consumes 11 liters. We will not tell you about everything, since the article will turn out to be simply huge, here is a table of gasoline engines.

A type Volume Power Torque Overclocking Max Speed Number of cylinders
Petrol 1.6 l 101 HP 140 H*m 11.9 sec. 191 km/h 4
Petrol 1.8 l 125 HP 173 H*m 10.5 sec. 205 km/h 4
Petrol 1.8 l 150 HP 210 H*m 8.3 sec. 222 km/h 4
Petrol 2.6 l 150 HP 225 H*m 9.1 sec. 220 km/h V6
Petrol 2.8 l 174 HP 250 H*m 8.2 sec. 230 km/h V6
Petrol 2.8 l 193 HP 280 H*m 7.3 sec. 240 km/h V6

And here is the table of A4 TDI diesel engines.

A type Volume Power Torque Overclocking Max Speed Number of cylinders
Diesel 1.9 l 75 HP 140 H*m 13.3 sec. 183 km/h 4
Diesel 1.9 l 90 HP 210 H*m 13.3 sec. 183 km/h 4
Diesel 1.9 l 110 HP 235 H*m 11.3 sec. 196 km/h 4

The car is built on a completely new platform, which has a fully independent suspension made of aluminum. A multi-link system is used both front and rear. The brakes are fully disc, but only the front ones have ventilation.

As you already understood, you definitely have a choice. In addition to the motors, you can also choose a gearbox, as there were 5-speed manual transmissions, as well as 4-speed and 5-speed automatic transmissions. The engines are of course a bit old, but they still live and are cheaply maintained.

Price

Of course, you can only find such a new car in the Audi Museum, but they won’t sell it to you. You can buy this model only in the secondary market, where the price is completely different due to the long years of production and a large number of motors, the condition also plays a role. The cost varies from 150,000 rubles to 400,000 rubles, which is a fairly serious variation for the secondary.

This is a good car as a budget purchase, it is comfortable and, in principle, it can be called legendary. If you still decide to take the Audi A4 B5 (1994-2001), then be prepared to repair it, although it is reliable, but not eternal, the years take their toll.
