Manual transmission Suzuki Grand Vitara. Low cost of repairing an SUV transmission

Automatic transmission (4 A/T)

general description

For vehicles equipped additional funds passive safety(airbag):

  • Service on the airbag system and related systems should only be performed by an authorized SUZUKI dealer. Failure to take precautions may result in unintended operation of the system or render the system inoperable. In both cases, serious injury is possible.
  • Work on maintenance should begin at least 90 seconds after the ignition key is turned to the “LOCK” position and the negative cable is disconnected from the battery. Otherwise, the system may operate from the backup energy of the sensors and diagnostics module (SDM).

The automatic transmission is completely automatic type with three speeds plus overdrive (O/D).

The torque converter is a three-element, single-stage, two-phase type, equipped with an electronically controlled lock-up mechanism. The gear shifting device consists of 3 rows of planetary gears, three disc-type clutches, four disc-type brakes and three clutches freewheel. The transmission is switched by selecting one of 6 positions (“P”, “R”, “N”, “D”, “2” and “L”) using a selection lever mounted on the floor. There is an overdrive (O/D) switch on the lever handle that allows you to shift up into overdrive mode (except 4L) and shift down from overdrive mode. In addition, using the park/neutral position switch P/N located on the console box, you can select the gear change time from two modes, normal and on the go.

4 speed mode automatic transmission
3:

3-speed automatic transmission mode
Three-speed mode is suitable for the following driving conditions: Driving on winding roads in hilly areas - this mode provides a smoother ride with fewer gear changes
Movement on steep descent- this mode provides effective engine braking NOTE:
If the transfer case control lever is set to “4L”, the 4-speed automatic transmission remains 3-speed.

If you need more traction when climbing or accelerating, press the A/T POWER switch. The dashboard will light up warning lamp with the inscription "POWER". Gear changes will be delayed, and in each gear the engine speed will be higher.

To return to normal mode press the switch again. The POWER indicator lamp will go out.

WARNING
Always press the brake pedal before starting to drive (including reverse) from park or neutral to prevent accidental starting while changing gears.

During normal driving, make sure that the “POWER” indicator light is off, then move the lever to the “D” (driving) position. Use the remaining lever positions according to the instructions below.

"P" (parking)

In this position, the gearbox is locked when parking or starting the engine. Move the lever to “P” only after the vehicle has come to a complete stop.

WARNING
When parking a four-wheel drive vehicle, never leave the control lever transfer case in neutral position.

Otherwise, the vehicle may move away even when the gear lever is in the park position (“P”).

"R" (reverse)

For movement in reverse Move the lever to the “R” position only after the vehicle has come to a complete stop.

"N" (neutral)

This position is used to start an engine that has stalled while driving. If the car is held by the brake, you can put it in neutral while the engine is idling. "D" (movement)

This position is used under normal driving conditions.

In this position of the lever, it is possible to voluntarily engage a lower gear by pressing the accelerator pedal.

The higher the driving speed, the harder the pressure required to shift.

"3" ("low 3")

This position is used when additional traction (braking) force is required, for example, on a moderate climb or when engine braking on a descent. In this case, the highest of possible transfers there will be a 3rd one.

"2" ("low 2")

This position is used when more traction (braking) force is required, for example on a steep incline or when engine braking downhill when driving on hilly terrain.

NOTE.

If the traction mode switch is set with the lever position “3” or “2” at “POWER”, it is impossible to engage the transmission position “L” (“low 1”).

"L" ("low 1")

The position is used to provide maximum traction, for example when driving up a very steep incline. deep snow or mud, as well as when braking the engine on steep slopes.

NOTE:
If the lever is set to the low speed range position at a driving speed higher than the maximum permissible day in this range, the shift will not occur until the driving speed has decreased to the permissible speed.

WARNING
Strictly follow the precautions to avoid damage to the automatic transmission:
Before setting the lever to the “P” or “R” position, make sure that the car is stationary,
do not shift from position “P” or “N” to “R”, “D”, “3”, “2” or “L” if the engine speed is higher than idle move, do not “accelerate” when the lever is in the “R”, “D”, “3”, “2” or “L” position and the rear wheels are stationary,
Do not hold the car on a slope with the engine, use the brakes.

The manual transmission is reliable and economical, but not for the lazy, as they say. But cars continue to be equipped with them, since there are still many lovers of durability. In addition, the cross-country ability and driving safety of such machines are higher. Driving skills are required to benefit from the ride. Otherwise, you will have to apply for gearbox repairs earlier than the planned service life.

One of the reasons for contacting our car service center is knocking out or randomly switching off the first gear on a Suzuki.

Reasons for knocking out a gear in a manual transmission, typical for the Grand Vitara:

  • 1st gear shift fork malfunction
  • broken gear synchronizer ring teeth Re
  • wear of first gear gear teeth
  • failure of the 1st and 2nd gear clutches
  • big gap in needle bearings
  • wear of needle bearing bushings

Clutch not released, hydraulic leak release bearing, towing, off-road driving leads to premature wear mechanical transmission. If you do not get diagnosed in time, repairs can be very expensive. After all, increased clearances in some gears entail incorrect operation related parts. Wear products in the form of broken teeth and metal shavings are carried along with the oil throughout the entire transmission. As a result, where it was possible to replace one or two parts, you will have to change many of them. In addition, when overhauling you will need: oil seals, shims, sealant, a new clutch, and possibly a flywheel. So, a seemingly harmless knocking out of 1st gear can lead to a major overhaul of the manual transmission, which in monetary terms is about 90,000 rubles.

What's included in the price?

Removal and installation of manual transmission with replacement of clutch and flywheel - 10,500 rubles.

The cost of the bulkhead is 9400 rubles.

Washing parts - 800 rub.

The timing of work often depends on the quantity and availability of spare parts to be replaced. As a rule, it does not exceed two weeks, taking into account the delivery of spare parts to order.

If the above-mentioned symptoms of malfunctions appear on your Grand Vitara, contact our technical center for diagnostics. All work is carried out by experienced craftsmen, using special equipment and technological maps.

EXAMPLES OF RECENT WORK

When overhaul The gearbox is removed from the vehicle. At this stage, the mechanic carefully examines the condition of all systems servicing the gearbox, mounting supports power block etc.

After removal from the vehicle, the automatic transmission goes to the overhaul site. It should be noted that at this site, as well as at all previous ones, experienced craftsmen who have a higher technical education (engineering and physics) work. Here the automatic transmission of the Suzuki Grand Vitara is repaired, and after washing and drying all the parts, they are defective, i.e. The possibility of further use of each part or the need to replace it is determined.

If desired, any customer can be present both during the disassembly of the gearbox and during the defective inspection of its parts. At the end of this procedure, a list of replacement parts is compiled, which is then mandatory agreed with the customer. It should be especially noted that during a major overhaul it is necessary, regardless of the condition of the automatic transmission, to replace all seals and gaskets. The use of original spare parts only from transmission manufacturers increases the service life of the repaired Suzuki automatic transmission Grand Vitara, but leads to a significant increase in the cost of spare parts. The use of “aftermarket” parts allows you to achieve the most optimal combination of price-quality ratio, i.e. companies specializing in the production of spare parts for automatic transmissions transmission

Installation is carried out taking into account all technical requirements. At this stage, the replacement of failed fastening elements and auxiliary systems gearbox maintenance. In addition, during installation, preliminary adjustments are made to the elements of the external part of the control system.

Output diagnostics and vehicle running-in. They are carried out using the same methods as input diagnostics. In addition, all previously appeared fault codes are erased from the control unit's memory.

The manual transmission of a Suzuki Grand Vitara needs to be monitored and promptly serviced. This will help save the life and health of not only the driver and his passengers, but also other road users.
