Car repair is an objective necessity, which is dictated by technical and economic reasons. The most complete use of the resource of parts can be ensured only if timely repairs are carried out. The main purpose of the repair is to restore the vehicle's performance.

One of the types of repairs is the current repair of a car. It is performed to ensure or restore the functionality of the product and consists in the replacement and (or) restoration of individual parts.

Typical maintenance works are disassembly, assembly, locksmithing, welding, painting, replacement of parts and assemblies. During current repairs, it is allowed to replace parts that have reached the limit state, except for the base ones. During the current repair of a car, individual components and assemblies that require major repairs can be replaced.

Routine repairs contribute to the fulfillment of the setting mileage standards before overhaul. The need for current repairs is established during control inspections during maintenance, diagnostics, as well as at the request of the driver. At the same time, for a number of works, primarily related to traffic safety and labor-intensive in the elimination of failures, scheduled maintenance is carried out. It is partially combined with maintenance operations. The planned preventive system for organizing current repairs as a preventive measure ensures the timely elimination of the causes of failures, reduces the cost of work and the consumption of spare parts, and increases the safety of using the car.

Routine car repairs are carried out at motor transport enterprises, car service stations (STOA), as well as by individual owners.

The work performed during the current repair of cars is divided into two types: work on the removal and installation of units and assemblies, as well as on disassembly, troubleshooting and assembly of the removed units and assemblies.

Production areas intended for the maintenance and repair of complete vehicles are considered to be basic, areas specializing in types of work, for example, the repair of fuel equipment, batteries, etc., ensuring the operation of the main areas, are auxiliary.

At industrial enterprises, there are two methods of car maintenance - non-personalized and aggregate.

With a non-impersonal repair method, the belonging of the restored components to a specific vehicle remains. In this case, the car is idle during the entire period of repair of its units. The aggregate method is such an impersonal repair method in which defective units are replaced with new or pre-repaired ones. Units that require repair, removed from the car, are sent to specialized auto repair plants or auxiliary production sites for restoration. With the aggregate method, the downtime for repairs is significantly reduced, the technical readiness factor is increased, and thereby the efficiency of using vehicles is increased.

Current repairs are carried out at universal or special posts. The posts are entrusted with the implementation of all work on the current repair of one or more units, assembly units and vehicle systems. It is recommended to specialize production sites to perform certain work on units, electrical equipment. The narrow specialization of repair enterprises allows using the most productive technological processes, improving the quality and reducing the cost of repair work.

During the current repair at the workshop, the following movement of the car occurs. At the entrance to the station, the car drives into the acceptance area, where the inspector checks it, draws up a repair order. An identification mark on a magnetic stand is installed on the roof of the car, the number of which is entered into the work order. When filling out a work order, the receiver enters into it data about the owner and the car, lists the operations that need to be performed, indicates their cost according to a single price list.

The completed repair order is sent by the receiver to the dispatch office located next to the acceptance area. The dispatcher directs the car to a specific repair area and sets the date and time for the car to be repaired, which are noted in the order-order. Then the dispatcher sends the order-order forms to the appropriate divisions of the station using pneumatic mail: to the warehouse, to the billing department, to the production manager. One of the forms remains on the car, which is transferred by the personnel of the acceptance site to one of the brigades of the corresponding site.

Thus, as soon as the car is accepted and registered by the dispatcher, the corresponding subdivisions of the station receive information about this.

The team that received the car performs the operations specified in the order-order. The foreman writes down the personnel numbers of the workers carrying out the repairs in the order-order, and they sign it for each operation. Then the car, at the direction of the dispatcher, is transferred to other teams to perform other types of work.

After the completion of all work, the car goes to the delivery area, where the work performed by the repair teams is monitored. The checked car is issued to the owner or installed in the parking lot of ready-made cars.

After the completion of the work, the work order, as well as copies of invoices for receipt of spare parts and materials from the warehouse, are sent to the billing department. The documentation processed in the billing department is sent to the production manager, who checks the correctness of the work and paperwork and transfers the documentation to the cashier to pay for the work by the car owner.

The first period of implementation of the planned preventive system of repairs was characterized by the obligatory performance of not only maintenance, but also repairs after certain periods and with a certain amount of work. However, the experience of drivers with a hundred thousand people has shown that only maintenance should be mandatory in terms of frequency and volume of work, and turnaround times and volumes of work for certain types of repairs should be set as average values, taking into account the achievements of advanced drivers.

The planned preventive repair system is that a minimum overhaul mileage is set for a car of each brand and its units. A car that has passed the established overhaul mileage is not put for repair, but undergoes a thorough technical inspection by a special commission in order to establish the actual need for repair. If it turns out that, due to its technical condition, the car does not require repairs stipulated by the schedule, then it is allowed to continue operation for a certain period. After this period, the car is again subjected to technical inspection, the issue of the need for repair is resolved, or an additional period of operation without repair is again assigned.

With a planned preventive system, three types of repairs are provided:

  • average
  • capital

For cars of new models, the mileage before the overhaul of the engine, front axle, steering, gearbox and rear axle units is set equal to the mileage before the overhaul of the car as a whole.

Notes:

  1. For Soviet cars operating on roads with improved surfaces, the rate of overhaul mileage increases by 10%, with the exception of ZIS-110 and ZIM vehicles, for which the rate of overhaul mileage is set taking into account the road surface.
  2. For trucks and passenger cars of foreign brands, the standards of overhaul mileage are established for the types of cars of domestic production, but with a decrease in the rates by 15%.
  3. For cars used during the entire overhaul period with two trailers, the overhaul mileage rates are reduced by 30%, and for cars operating with one trailer or semi-trailer - by 20%.
  4. For cars used with trailers periodically, but in total at least half of the mileage, the rates of overhaul mileage are reduced when working with two trailers by 15%, and with one trailer by 10%.
  5. For dump trucks and flatbed vehicles loaded with a bunker or an excavator, as well as for vehicles constantly working on logging and in quarries, the rates between repairs are reduced by 10%.

Car maintenance

Routine repairs are carried out only when needed in between shifts and consists in eliminating malfunctions caused by normal wear and tear, as well as poor driving and poor maintenance of the car.

The need for current repairs is identified by the driver during the operation of the car on the line and during maintenance.

During current repairs, the following main works are performed (for individual units):

  • Engine- change of piston rings, piston, piston pin, connecting rod bush, valves; replacement of the fan belt of the fan and the water pump; tightening bearings, changing liners and lapping valves.
  • Clutch- change of linings of driven discs, release clutch bearing, springs and clutch adjustment.
  • Transmission- partial disassembly, repair with replacement of individual parts and assembly.
  • Cardan drive and rear axle- change of the cardan joint, key, oil seal and semi-axle nut, adjustment of bearings and gearing of the main gears.
  • Wheels, hubs and brakes- disassembly of hubs, change and adjustment of bearings; disassembly of brakes, riveting of brake pad linings, shoe cleaning, change of brake drum and rods, adjustment of the brake mechanism and its drive.
  • - complete disassembly of the front axle, change of bushings, pivot, bearings and levers of the pivot pin; disassembly, repair, assembly and steering adjustment.
  • Cab, platform and empennage- change of the hood, side hooks, door hinges; fastening of fenders, mudguards, footboards, body sides and window regulators, changing footrests and their brackets.
  • Frame, springs and muffler- change of springs, spring pins, ladders, shackles, spring bushings, muffler and license plate bracket.
  • Radiator- change of the radiator, lining and hoses.

Medium repair

Medium repairs are carried out as required, but not earlier than the mileage established before the average repair, which is 50% of the mileage rate before overhaul. The volume of medium repair of old cars (ZIS-5 and GAZ-MM) includes overhaul of the engine, front axle (not driving) and steering; medium repair of the gearbox and rear axle and current repair of other units and mechanisms. The volume of medium repair of new brands of cars (GAZ-51, ZIS-150, M-20, etc.) includes medium repair of the engine, gearbox and rear axle and current repair of other units and mechanisms.

In case of medium repair, the following basic work is carried out (for individual units):

  • Engine- disassembling the engine, changing liners or adjusting and tightening bearings, grinding, lapping and adjusting valves, cleaning carbon deposits, replacing pistons, piston rings and pins, changing intake and exhaust pipes and a flywheel, assembling and running the engine at the stand.
  • Clutch- disassembly, repair with replacement of individual parts, assembly and adjustment.
  • Gearbox - disassembly of the gearbox, check, repair and replacement of individual parts, assembly of the gearbox.
  • Cardan transmission- disassembly of cardan joints, flushing and checking the condition of parts, repair with replacement of parts, and assembly of the cardan transmission.
  • Rear axle- disassembly of the rear axle, flushing of units and parts, repair and replacement of individual gears.
  • Front axle and steering- complete disassembly of the front axle, repair with replacement of parts and assembly; disassembly, repair, assembly and steering adjustment.
  • Frame, cab and platform- fastening the brackets to the frame, removing the muffler, cleaning and installing it, removing the springs, changing the spring bushings and pins, installing the springs in place; checking and securing the cab, replacing and securing door locks, handles, hinges, checking the condition of the wiper, upholstery of the cab roof, securing mud flaps, fenders, steps, side boards, side hooks and platform angles.
  • Assembling the car- installation of the front axle, engine, steering, electrical equipment and fittings.

If it is not possible to eliminate the defects of the unit on site, then it is allowed to remove the unit from the frame.

Major overhaul

Overhaul is also carried out on demand, but not earlier than the established mileage. During a major overhaul, the car is completely disassembled into components and parts; the parts are sorted and the unusable ones are restored or replaced. At the end of assembling and testing of units, the car is assembled and tested on the move.

However, the refusal of warranty repair of the car in a particular case is possible for serious reasons. If a dealer or an authorized service center does not have the necessary spare parts, they are received along the whole chain - from the order at the car factory and shipment. Therefore, when returning a car, it is important to make sure what the purpose of the transfer of the vehicle is listed in the documents. To do this, you need to write a claim in duplicate with a detailed description of the reason for applying for a request to eliminate the described free of charge. Claims up to 1 million rubles are not subject to a state duty, claims over 1 million rubles must include a requirement to reimburse both the cost of correction and the penalty and compensation for causing moral harm.

Reasons for refusing a free repair

Among the common reasons for failures are untimely passage or ignoring of the first or any other maintenance in an authorized service center, any repair or maintenance outside such service centers, violation or non-observance of instructions or violation of prohibitions, at least theoretically fraught with a malfunction, installation of a part or equipment that is not certified manufacturers, road accidents, damage from natural disasters, illegal actions of third parties, in which components, assemblies or the entire machine were disabled, operation in difficult climatic conditions. How to deal with rejection?

If the warranty repair of the car was refused, you can start with a claim to the management of the service center. If it does not help, you can write to the distributor who is fully responsible for the quality of customer service. The next instance is the manufacturing plant, for which reputation is important. However, factory lawyers can redirect the claim to a subordinate organization, i.e. a dealer.

Car clubs and car communities such as car forums can have a big impact on disputes with a dealer. Even more salons are wary of the media. Car owner's rights

If the deadline is not set by the agreement, everything must be eliminated in the minimum time necessary for this. When accepting a car, dealers (car services) can indicate a period of 45 days in small print. This must be crossed out and require writing that it will be done in accordance with Art. 20 of the Federal Law of the Russian Federation on the RFP, that is, immediately. If, however, is established for more than 45 days, the agreement will not be valid, as contrary to Art. 16 of the same law (conditions of contracts that contradict the legislation are considered invalid). The same Art. 20 says that the lack of spare parts and the like cannot serve as a reason for delaying the repair of the car. If the seller is an authorized organization that has the ability to carry out warranty services, he can pre-set a period of 45 days in the sales contract. This will have legal effect if the vehicle is repaired free of charge by the seller, and not by another authorized dealer.

If the seller did not cope within 45 days, the buyer can demand not only a forfeit, but also a refund or an exchange of the car. In the claim, it is necessary to indicate that the requirement to eliminate the malfunctions has not been fulfilled, therefore, according to Art. 18 ZoZPP new is put forward. The seller will have 10 days for a refund or 21 days for an exchange. If you fill out a claim correctly, the likelihood of eliminating deficiencies within the prescribed 45 days can increase many times over.

The buyer has the right to get his money back if the identified deficiency or malfunction is “material”. "Materiality" must be recognized by the seller, but it is automatically determined if they are repeated after elimination. In addition, they are obliged to return the money if the car was repaired for more than 30 days every year during the warranty period.

The list of components and assemblies of the machine that can be repaired free of charge is also limited. These do not include, for example, candles, lamps, and other consumables. The older the vehicle, the more mechanisms and assemblies lose the right to a free repair: the terms here differ for different assemblies and parts.

The warranty is extended for as long as the machine has not been used, that is, for the period of elimination of defects. The extension is calculated from the time of filing a request to eliminate faults until the car is returned to the consumer.
