Renault Duster 2015. TRANSMISSION: 4 wheel drive (4WD)

Keep in mind that driving a car off-road has nothing to do with driving on a well-maintained road.

In order to use the full potential of your car, it is recommended to pass special training on driving a 4x4 car (4WD).

Your own safety and the safety of passengers depends on you, your skills and your vigilance when driving off-road.

Mode switch 4x2 (2WD), 4x4 (4WD)

Depending on the road conditions You can select one of the following modes by turning switch 1:

AUTO mode

To enable this mode, turn switch 1 to the AUTO position.

Operating principle

In AUTO mode, torque is automatically distributed between the front and rear wheels depending on road conditions and vehicle speed. This position improves the stability of the car on the road. Use this mode on any road (dry, snow, slippery road etc.) or when towing a trailer, caravan, etc. There is no indication on the instrument panel for this mode.

2WD mode

To enable this mode, turn switch 1 to the 2WD position. A warning light will come on on the instrument panel.

2WD lamp

Operating principle

In 2WD mode, only the front wheels are used as driving wheels. Use this mode on dry roads with good grip.

To disable this mode, turn switch 1 to the AUTO position. The warning light on the instrument panel will turn off.

2WD lamp

4WD Lock Mode

To enable this mode, turn switch 1 to the 4WD Lock position. The switch then returns to the AUTO position. The 4WD Lock warning light will come on on the instrument panel

Operating principle

In 4WD Lock mode, the torque is distributed between the front and rear wheels in a proportion that is optimal for driving the car in off-road conditions. This mode should only be used off-road (examples: dirt, steep slopes, sand).

To turn off this mode, turn switch 1 back to the 4WD Lock position. The signal lamp on the instrument panel will go out. When the engine is stopped, 4WD Lock remains on for one minute.

After a minute, the system enters mode 2 \ LAN or AUTO, depending on the position of the switch.

Note: When the speed is over 60 km/h in 4WD Lock mode, the system automatically switches to AUTO mode.

4WD Lock warning light goes out

Peculiarities all-wheel drive transmission

The vehicle may make excessive noise when AUTO or 4WD Lock is on. This is not a malfunction. If the system detects a difference in the size of the front and rear wheels(for example, when insufficient pressure in tires, pronounced tire wear on one of the axles, etc.), it automatically switches to 2WD mode.

Lights up on the instrument panel signal lamps and Continue

Drive at a moderate speed and contact the manufacturer's dealer as soon as possible.

Tire replacement may be the solution to this problem. Always use four identical tires (of the same make and design) with the same degree of wear.

If the wheels slip heavily, mechanical components may overheat.

If this happens:

The warning light flashes first
4WD LOCK

4WD Lock mode is still enabled, but it is recommended to stop as soon as possible and allow the system to cool down (until the lamp stops flashing);

If the wheel spin continues, the system automatically switches to 2WD mode to protect the mechanical components.

The 4WD LOCK warning light flashes. At

In this case, the selection of another mode is not possible until the indicator stops flashing.

In this case, it is recommended to stop as soon as possible and let the system cool down (until the lamp stops flashing); It may take approximately five minutes to cool down. When the system detects too much front wheel slip, it changes the engine mode to reduce the slip.

ABS operation in LOCK mode (vehicles with ABS)

When 4WD Lock is active, off-road ABS mode is enabled. In this situation, cyclic wheel lock so that they better push through the soil, which reduces braking distances on loose soils. If this mode is enabled:

Vehicle maneuverability in braking mode is limited. This mode of operation is not recommended in very low grip conditions (e.g. on ice).

Some noise may appear. This is normal and does not constitute a malfunction.

Maintenance system exchange rate stability and traction control system off-road driving (vehicles with ESC)

When driving on loose ground (sand, mud, deep snow) it is recommended to disable the ESC by pressing the ESC switch.

In this case, only the separate wheel braking system works. This system brakes a spinning wheel or wheels, which ensures that the torque is transferred to the wheels that have more traction. This is especially useful when all-wheel drive is on.

All features ESC systems turn on again when exceeding 50 km/h approximately (60 km/h in 4WD Lock mode) or after restart engine, or by pressing the ESC switch again.

Faults
When the system detects a malfunction, it automatically enters 2WD mode, warning lights and

Continue driving at a moderate speed and contact the manufacturer's service station as soon as possible.

With some malfunctions, the system may not switch to 2WD mode or 4WD Lock mode. The "AUTO" mode remains on.

Contact the manufacturer's service station immediately.

4 wheel drive system

Whichever mode is selected, do not start the engine unless all four wheels are on the ground, such as when using a jack or wheel stand.

Do not turn the mode switch when cornering, when driving in reverse or when the wheels are spinning a lot. Select 2WD, AUTO or 4WD Lock only when the vehicle is moving in a straight line.

Use only tires with the required performance.

The 4WD Lock mode is specifically designed for off-road driving. Using this mode in any other way may limit the vehicle's maneuverability and cause damage to the vehicle's mechanical components.

Always install tires with the same characteristics (brand, size, type, wear, etc.) on the four wheels of the vehicle. Tire use different dimensions on the front, rear and / or right and left wheels can lead to serious consequences for both the tires themselves and the gearbox, transfer box and rear differential gears.

So, a few words about Renault Duster. This model is slowly entering our lives, appearing more often in our cities and villages. The car was not purchased by me, but from my advice by my father. My father lives in a district village, a little on the outskirts, on a new street being built up. The road was only recently covered with gravel, before that there was an ordinary rolled road, which in spring and autumn stopped in an impassable.

The decision was made - to take the Duster, always on all-wheel drive, on the mechanics (an automatic machine is alien in the village), and not in a particularly poor configuration: the presence of a conder, power windows and heating the fifth point is also necessary. We have a Renault salon in our city, so we ordered from ourselves (by the way, you have to pay +19 thousand rubles for bringing a car, quite impudence), for example, the minimum wage for the price list and advertising costs 449 thousand rubles, we have will cost 468 thousand rubles.

Ordered in the pre-maximum speed on the engine 1.6 l., 102 l. With. – complete set “privilege”, mechanics, four-wheel drive+ a couple of special stages = airbag front passenger, 4 000 rub. (the driver already has it), alloy wheels- 12,500 rubles, rear power windows - 5,000 rubles. In total, we have almost 620 thousand rubles. The waiting period is standard for all year. Booked a car in April. Prepayment 200 thousand rubles. (more impudence). In principle, it was possible to take a car from stock - but hung with all sorts of unnecessary extras for 70-100 thousand (for example, chrome-plated footboards that reduce ground clearance by almost 3-4 cm, transverse trunk arches, a dog cage, etc.). ). A couple of months later, we were offered a abandoned car (someone refused in favor of Fluence) without special stages, but the only “but”. The car was not pre-maximum speed, but maximum speed, for 700 thousand rubles. Having discussed on family council decided to take. Immediately in the cabin they ordered a signaling (with the installation of 9 thousand) and took some kind of promotion winter tires studded Nokian Nordman. The buying process was smooth and painless. Nothing else was screwed up.

So what do we have:

- four-wheel drive, ground clearance 21 cm, the ability to switch with a washer, as on the X-Trail - 2WD. 4WD, Lock 4WD;

- peppy 2 liters., 135 liters. With.;

- 6 manual transmissions;

leather interior and steering wheel;

– side airbags;

– 16 castings;

– heated priests, conder, roof rails;

- native two-din audio system, understands flash drives and bluetooth.

After the domestic Volga, UAZ, VAZ, a foreign car for my father became the Mercedes itself. Now behind 4 thousand km. The flight is normal. Even more than. I liked the dviglo, it drives and accelerates the car well. Didn't really like the selection. gear ratios Manual transmission, they are too close to each other. I read that Renault, in order not to put a downshift in the transmission, made the gears short so that the first gear actually performed the traction function of the downshift type. Therefore, in the book it is even recommended to get under way from 2nd gear. Special respect for the suspension - I won’t say that it is smooth, but its elasticity and ability to work out bumps and Russian potholes are the envy of Russian masters of basins and vases. Noise isolation for three. Up to 80 km tolerable, then pandemonium begins - tires, aerodynamics. By the way, when they ordered a car, Continental tires were put on the Dusters from the factory, and now Amtel Cruise, oh, I don’t think they are better, but in general they saved several thousand rubles, although the price turned out to be the same, of course, as in the order contract the car was not spelled out on which tires it would be.

After a couple of months, my father put side deflectors on the windows from the cabin, they are plug-in, not overhead. They fell into place very well, the windows do not interfere with the work. I also put an armrest between the front seats (it does not go to the database).

In general, the car pleases, there were no incidents, pah-pah, good car for countryside exactly. Of course, UAZ and Shniva will be more passable, but my father is not a hunter, not a fisherman, so he doesn’t ride in dense forests, he often drives along the highway. And taking into account the fact that the Shnivy engine is 1.7 liters., 80 liters. With. almost does not drive, but eats all its 10–12 liters, then buying a modern, safer and more economical car is a good thing. Good luck to all.

Renault Duster is a car that is very popular in Russia. This popularity is explained by several factors:

  • relatively low price. In the class, perhaps, there are no other cars that could compete with this nominal Frenchman;
  • reliability. Of course, Duster does not set the bar for reliability, but judging by the reviews of the owners, the car is pretty good;
  • comfort of movement. Again, based on the cost and class, the car is very roomy and comfortable. Plenty of space in the cabin luggage compartment- enough.
  • the presence of all-wheel drive.

Having the ability to actively use all four wheels is a definite advantage. vehicle, especially on domestic roads, or rather, in the conditions of domestic off-road. Going to the dacha, along a country road washed out by rains, taking the family out for a picnic in the forest - all this Duster, of course, can do.

How to turn on all-wheel drive on a Renault Duster

Without going into the features of Duster's all-wheel drive yet, because most motorists just don't delve into technical side question, let's explore how to turn on all-wheel drive on a Renault Duster.

To activate the function in the car, there is a convenient washer, made quite neatly and, one might say, stylishly. It can be installed in one of three positions:

  • lock. In this mode, the machine operates in full drive. Still, you probably have to touch on the technical side, saying at least that in the Lock mode, the clutch located in the gearbox is blocked. And the power is evenly distributed between the axles of the car. This mode is recommended for use in off-road conditions, as well as on icy or snow covered road. In Lock mode, in order to save the car's systems, you need to move to low speeds. The maximum is 80 kilometers per hour. On the forums of the owners of this brand of car, you can find some information about the tests of the regime. It should be noted that riding high speed in this mode can lead to failure of the clutch, and the gearbox itself. The consequences, to be honest, are not very pleasant, since spare parts for the Duster are still expensive;
  • 2WD - front-wheel drive mode. The washer in the 2WD position is usually installed in the city or on highways where the quality pavement at least satisfactory. Driving in this mode contributes to significant fuel savings and optimization of vehicle speed. This is the base mode. Only they, for sure, are used by a large number of dusters;
  • AUTO is a mode that provides the best grip on the road. Actually, the name of the mode suggests that all adjustments related to the distribution of power on the vehicle axle are performed by the computer independently. By default, on a good road, it works front-wheel drive. If the quality of the road surface deteriorates, the system transfers part of the power to rear axle. All the same electromagnetic clutch, which was discussed above, can be transferred to the rear axle up to 50% of the power. That is, the car can move on a full plug-in drive. The question of the need to connect all-wheel drive is only decided not by a person, but by a computer.

Which of the modes to choose in a particular situation should be determined by the owner of the car. It seems that the 2WD mode should become the base one. As for all-wheel drive, here experienced motorists will undoubtedly prefer manual mode. And beginners are advised to trust the automation, which on this machine is quite solid and should not fail.

How all-wheel drive works on a Duster

When all the modes of the car are described, it is indicated how to turn them on, you can dwell in more detail on how the all-wheel drive works on the Duster.

The device of Duster brand cars with front-wheel drive is quite simple. The torque goes into the gearbox and is distributed between the drive wheels. At the ends of which CV joints are installed. To be more precise, the CV joints are only external. Internal hinges have tripods, as a result of which the axes move with some clearance.

Thus, we can say that the design of the Duster with front drive wheels is simple and typical for most front wheel drive cars. And this is a definite plus. Renault Duster is a budget car. The simpler it is, the easier and faster it is to repair. Front wheel drive Duster, alas, will not be able to confidently drive where the Duster with all-wheel drive will pass.

The device of Duster cars, which have the ability to connect the rear axle to work, is similar to the device of such cars as X-Trail and Qashqai from Nissan. Also, everything is quite simple, but there are certain features.

Gear box feature all-wheel drive model is that it has a transfer case, thanks to which the torque is directed to the gearbox located at the rear. In the gearbox, as already noted, there is electromagnetic clutch. The movement of the washer can block the clutch. Clutch blocking can also be carried out using automation in AUTO mode.

If the clutch is locked, then the torque cannot be directed to the rear axle. With an unlocked clutch, torque is transmitted to the axle. Thus, in fact, the launch and operation of the all-wheel drive on the Duster is carried out.

It is worth repeating that it is not recommended to use manual four-wheel drive for a long time. If the clutch experiences regular heavy loads, it will quickly fail. As a rule, in such a situation, it is not repair that is required, but the replacement of the coupling. And, alas, it is not cheap.

Thus, the front-wheel drive on a Renault Duster car has a simple device, it is easy to turn on, and you can set one of two modes. It can be noted that, given the class of the car and its cost, all-wheel drive is implemented soundly. Maybe it could have been better. But the best is the enemy of the good.
