The Trail T31 all-wheel drive transmission has 3 operating modes - 2WD, Auto and Lock. From the factory, all torque is transmitted to the front wheels, however, up to a speed of 70 km / h, it is possible to turn on the "Auto" mode, after which, when one of the wheels is slipping, some of the torque will be directed to the rear wheels.

By connecting the Lock mode (it works only at a high-speed mode of no more than 40 kilometers per hour), the clutch discs are always fixed, and the traction, together with simple differentials, is transmitted between the wheels of both axles in an equal order.

As a basis for the second generation, they decided to take the "trolley" Nissan C, which was used on the crossover. Ixtrail received a McPherson-type suspension in front and a multi-link system in the rear.
