We arrive home, wait for a refund of 400 euros for the deposit, and we are told that our deposit will not be returned to us since they repaired the cap on it. Just a cheap scam!

We went to Bulgaria and before the trip we booked a car through the sixt-rent company. We were offered several models to choose from, but we chose Toyota, which is more reliable. There were no questions with the payment system, we transferred 1000 euros because we wanted to travel a lot and not experience discomfort, in the end we had to pay some more amount, but this cannot compare with the comfort of traveling.

We rented the car in April in Marseille. There were no problems with payment for services and the payment system. We were satisfied with the condition of the car (they took a Citroen) and the work of the employees (Mark and Andre).

We would like to express our gratitude to the polite and attentive staff of Sixt at Villafranca Airport in Verona. The registration went without a hitch. David (that was the employee's name) offered a car that was roomier and more comfortable than we had booked - a Fiat 500 L, and a diesel one at that. The car is almost new, clean. I rented a car in Budapest in August 2015, there were no problems with returning it. The deposit was unfrozen for exactly 30 days, but I was already prepared for such a long wait. We rented a car for the first time and drove in France. A very polite girl from the call center helped place the order, and on the spot the car was given in several classes higher than the one ordered - a mini couper in maximum configuration with built-in navigator, for the same amount. I’ll make a reservation right away: the information presented below is exclusively our experience; perhaps someone has encountered others, including negative situations, when renting a car in Europe at Sixt. In the described case, the car was received and returned at the airport in Munich (Germany).

Key points to pay attention to when renting a car in Europe with Sixt

1. Driver requirements:

Standard requirements for a driver: age at least 21 years, driving experience at least 2 years. Some business class cars are required to be at least 25 years old and have a driving experience of at least three years. In the same time, inexpensive cars You can also get it for an 18 year old driver... The requirements for the driver are reflected in the description of the requested car when booking it.

Possession of an international driver's license. At the same time, when concluding a lease agreement in Germany, it is enough to present an ordinary Russian driver's license(beige).

2. We reserve a car:

  1. It is best to book a car in advance; as a rule, 2–3 days in advance is enough, but during the tourist season the desired car may not be available. The reservation can be adjusted.
  2. We book on the website Sixt.com or Sixt.de. We compared prices for the same car on the websites sixt-rent.ru and sixt.ua, on Sixt.com or on Sixt.de it turns out to be much cheaper. However, it is better to compare prices on both sites and choose where it is cheaper!
    The operating system of the site is intuitive and does not cause any difficulties:
    • When booking, we indicate the period of use of the car, the place of receipt and delivery. If you plan to return the car elsewhere, the price tag will be more expensive.
    • Select the type of car you are interested in. We draw attention to the existing (or absent) restrictions on daily mileage (for a number of cars, a maximum daily mileage of 300 km is established). Also, if you plan to take a large number of suitcases with you, it is better to take a car with large trunk(further in the description of the car on the website the quantity seats, doors, trunk capacity).
    • Please note: when booking, you select a car class; the specific car you want may not be available. In this case, you will be offered either a similar one for the same price, or a higher class, but with an additional payment.
    • Necessity of a navigator: if you do not have your own navigator, it is better to rent a car with a built-in navigator - for a fee. Although, even if you refused paid navigator, rummage through on-board computer car, it is quite possible that it is there... On the road we used a tablet computer with a built-in Navitel program, respectively, having previously downloaded maps of Europe (and do not forget to take your car with you Charger!).
    • We decide on insurance. There are several types of Sixt insurance compensation:

      A) Third Party Insurance (TI, TPI)– third party liability insurance (analogous to Russian motor third party liability) is mandatory and included in all tariffs. Covers expenses in case of damage by the renter to other persons' cars.

      b) Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)– excess insurance in case of damage. This is insurance of the client's liability to the company for the rented car in case of damage. Including this insurance, liability does not arise for the entire amount of damage, but only within the amount established in advance (deductible). If the amount of damage is less than the deductible, then this amount is paid; if the amount of damage is higher than the deductible, then the tenant pays only the amount of the deductible.

      V) Top Cover CDW and Super Top Cover CDW- reduction of the client’s liability (franchise) in case of damage to the rented car. For certain vehicles, the inclusion of this insurance allows you to reduce liability for damage to zero (zero deductible does not apply in all countries).

      G) Theft Protection (TP)- franchise insurance in case of theft. If the client has included this insurance, then in the event of the theft of a rented car, he pays the company a set amount - a deductible.

      Please note: in the event of an accident or theft, car insurance is valid upon provision of appropriate documents from the police.


      e) Loss Damage Waiver (LDW)– franchise insurance in case of theft and damage. Applies if the amount of liability (deductible) in case of theft and damage is the same.
      LDW = CDW + TP
      Top Cover LDW and Super Top Cover LDW- reduction of the client’s liability (franchise) in case of damage and theft of the rented car. In some countries, including this insurance can reduce liability for damage and theft to zero.

      When booking, we put the appropriate “caps” (we choose from three franchise options offered on the website). As they say, “taste and color”. We prefer to pay for full insurance (with a zero deductible), especially when traveling outside of Germany and Austria (in these countries they drive much more carefully than, for example, in Italy).

      Please also note: The types of insurance listed above do not cover damage to glass, mirrors, wheels or the interior of the vehicle.

      Tire and Glass Coverage (GT)– insurance of windows and wheels. If the renter has included this insurance, he is not responsible for damage to the windows and wheels of the rented car.

      Personal Accident Insurance (PAI)– personal health insurance. As a rule, Russian citizens traveling abroad already have health insurance (issued with a visa).

    • Deciding on additional options: navigator, child seats, winter tires(required in winter time year, but is always paid additionally), etc. Inclusion of a second driver in the rental is also paid additionally. The second driver is subject to the same requirements as the main driver.
    • Deciding on the type of fuel: diesel in Europe is much more cheaper than gasoline, but the chances of getting diesel car not much, especially during the holiday season...
  3. Having determined the final cost of renting a car, go to the personal data section. Fill in the required fields. If you intend to visit other countries of the Schengen area (i.e. if you intend to travel outside the country in which the car is rented), when booking you must also fill out the “additional needs” section (client card block). We indicate all the countries that you will visit by car. You will not be able to travel outside the Schengen zone in a rented car.
  4. Click the “book” button and wait for confirmation of your reservation to the email address you provided.
  5. We print out the reservation and be sure to take it with us (the location of the Sixt office is also indicated there).
  6. You can pay directly on the website (you must provide payment card details), it turns out even cheaper. We prefer to pay on the spot.

3. We get the car:

  1. To conclude an agreement, we present a printed reservation, a driver’s license, and a foreign passport for each driver.
  2. We check the availability of the desired car. As already mentioned, the desired car may not be available, but they will offer another (accordingly, the price in this case is adjusted, including insurance)
  3. We pay the rent. Payment is made by debit or credit card (payment systems Visa or Master Card, class not lower than “classic”). There must be funds on the card account in an amount sufficient to pay full price rent. Sixt does not accept cash.

    Please note: when paying for insurance with a “zero” deductible, double the cost of the rented car will be blocked on your card account; in case of payment of another type of insurance compensation, they may block the amount in triple amount (check with the manager for the amount of the blocked amount).


    The best option to book a car: we take with us two cards (preferably not only from different payment systems, but also from different banks), one debit card (for example, a salary card, but not lower than “classic”) and a credit card from any bank (best with a grace period ). To pay rent and block funds (in some banks, in particular Sberbank, this looks like debiting money from an account), we present a credit card; having a grace period will allow you to save money (not pay interest for this).

    By credit card: check with the creditor bank maximum amount one-time debit on an account outside the Russian Federation (for the safety of your funds, the bank may set a limit on expenses).

    For example: the credit limit on the card is set at 70,000 rubles, and the maximum one-time payment can only be made in the amount of 25,000 rubles, and the payment for renting a car is 45,000 rubles. As an option: we pay for rent with a debit card, and travel with a credit card. When we return the blocked funds, we repay the loan. Money is returned, as a rule, within 1 - 4 weeks after returning the car.

  4. We sign an agreement (basically this is electronic signature on the scoreboard at the manager's desk). We take a printed copy of the agreement with us and keep it during the rental period, and at least until the money is returned to our account! We specify the place where the car will be dropped off.
  5. We take the car keys and go to the parking lot.
    We carefully look at the condition of the car: its cleanliness, presence of damage (chips, scratches, etc.), whether the gas tank is full. If everything is in order - good luck! Otherwise, you can change the typewriter, or take a photograph, but so that the date of the photograph is visible.

4. We rent out a car:

1) We hand over the car with full tank!!! Otherwise, an amount significantly exceeding the cost of the missing fuel will be withheld from your blocked deposit (the cost of fuel at its “special price” and the commission (fine) for refueling).

2) To avoid unnecessary questions, we returned the car clean (we washed and vacuumed it at the nearest car wash - it cost about 10 Euros).

3) To return your car, follow the “Car Rental Return” signs. Cars are mainly rented out in one place for all rental offices. We picked up and dropped off at Munich airport. There were a lot of cars being rented out, therefore, having decided that we are handing over the car without any damage, and insurance with a zero deductible in any case should cover possible misunderstandings (if they are revealed rental office), we simply left the keys in the ignition, the documents in the glove compartment (in the same place where they were) and left. Actually, most people did just that.

If the car is rented out at night (outside working hours), the process is similar: in this case, you leave the car in the Sixt parking lot, and put the keys and documents in a special “Key Box”.

5. We are waiting for a refund:

Three to four days after delivery of the car, we request an invoice through the Sixt.com website (it will contain detailed information about actual expenses).

We are looking for the “copy of invoice” option: the lower navigation part of the site from the main page “Contacts” - go down again - look for “Copy of invoice” - then the block “Quick access without Login - Options” (quick access without login and password) - “Invoice copy We have archived all your Sixt invoices for you” (put the cap on “copy invoice” and click the “copy of invoice” button that appears) - fill in the required fields and send the request.

The answer came to the email address within 24 hours. There were no penalties or deductions. The amount in the invoice was identical to the amount at the conclusion of the contract.

The money blocked on the card was returned in full within three weeks. We used Sberbank cards, SMS does not arrive when the money is returned, so check it yourself.
