It all started with the fact that it was time to change my old car - Suzuki Xl7 - to something new. The main reasons for this decision were: the constantly rising cost of car maintenance, and the older it became, the more investment it required, quite high consumption, well, I just started to get tired of her. The requirements for the chosen car were as follows: new, ground clearance of 190 mm (with our roads with lower clearance it will be difficult to get to your home), price – up to a million (I couldn’t allocate a large amount, and I didn’t want to take out a loan).

Having studied the offers of all the salons operating in our city and having driven the most attractive options, I realized that more or less interesting option we will have to add about 600 thousand more. Thus, having weeded out everything unsuitable, only Vesta Cross remained - and I settled on it.

The 2018 car was ordered in early November, but I was able to drive it only three months later. I’ll say this about the salon: when communicating with the employees, I got the impression that they didn’t care about the buyers at all; I didn’t see any interest on their part in selling me the car. Respectively, additional options and this was not imposed, nor were any discounts or gifts provided. Since the cost turned out to be higher than planned, I still had to use the loan that was issued for my wife, receiving in addition a discount under the “First Car” program. They didn’t delay and repaid the loan in just a couple of days, saving 80 thousand rubles on this move.

The first impression of Vesta, having driven it home from the showroom, is that the car resembles numerous Chinese products, it’s just as light, and in some places it rattles (in principle, like other cars that can compete with it on price). The Cross does not have any solidity and heaviness inherent in old Japanese or good German cars. At the same time, the wheels turned out to be quite noisy, the front suspension somehow rattles, the robot slows down, and the car jerks while driving.

A little later, having traveled a few hundred kilometers more, impressions began to change. Now the suspension seemed quite energy-intensive, with balanced settings, but at the same time excessively elastic. No matter how hard I tried, I still couldn’t break through it. But the front still continues to rattle.

They write about the 1.8-liter Vesta engine on the forums that it is no different in torque. I don’t know, maybe the engine of the car I inherited received some kind of new firmware, but I’m quite pleased with its traction, even in comparison with the 180-horsepower “six” Suzuki Xl7. While the main movement is in the city, the running-in continues, I don’t turn the speed above 3000, but the car pulls well, the speed is confident, but when starting off it still twitches, and the consumption reaches 14 liters - perhaps after the running-in is completed, this will all go away.

The “robot” is a different story. The choice fell on this particular transmission, since I lost the habit of “mechanics” quite a long time ago. On the way home, immediately after the purchase, the work of the “robot” was annoying, but after a few days I managed to get used to the algorithm of its functioning. This is where the peculiarity comes in of this type transmission, which requires some attention to both the actions of the driver and the interaction with the accelerator pedal. Driving like an automatic machine, pressing down the pedal, while driving a robot causes some discomfort. Gradually, I found mutual understanding with the “robot” in Vesta and learned to enjoy the trips.

In general, despite all the shortcomings, I am pleased with the purchase - for this money it was hardly possible to buy something new, and I did not consider a used one.

The Vesta family began to grow even before Vesta itself was put on the assembly line. And every new model becomes more and more curious. ABOUT all-terrain The most recent of the new products is evidenced by the meaningful “Cross” in the name. But besides increased clearance and a plastic body kit, which other VAZ “station wagons-supposedly-jeeps” flaunt, “Vesta”, following the X-Ray, can receive four-wheel drive- The plant's engineers are now working hard on it.

“Cross-Concept” was presented by AvtoVAZ President Boo Anderson. His speech, as always, was divided into “firstly”, “secondly” and so on, like the famous Fandorin, but the president devoted most of it to the situation of the plant as a whole and the plan for how to survive the fall of the market. Part of this plan is the release of new models. Mass production“Vesta” will begin in a month, and dealers will receive the first cars in early November. On December 15, X-Ray will hit the production line and go on sale at the end of February 2016. And “Cross-Concept” is planned to be put into production in a year, although exact date not yet known.

To turn Vesta into a fashionable pseudo-crossover, VAZ engineers made more than 300 changes to the design of the car. A minority of them affected the face of the car - the bumper skirt received additional edging and a hint of engine crankcase protection, and the lower part of the bumper was painted black. Added on the sides plastic body kit– on doors, thresholds and wheel arches. And here rear end- a completely new solution, since Vesta did not yet have a station wagon as such. Sloping roof line, pronounced spoiler, rear pillars in the shape of shark fins, also separated from the roof itself by a thin black stripe, as if suspending it in the air, adds sportiness to the car. No, this is not the boring dream of a Soviet summer resident, not a banal carrier of seedlings and jars of pickles, but almost a “shooting break”, almost a “hunting station wagon”, fashionable and stylish car for those who are young or, at least, want to look young. AvtoVAZ chief designer Steve Mattin, presenting the model to the Moscow public, noted that this “ best incarnation Lada's "Cross" concept. Nice one, Steve!

The interior of the car will still be finalized by interior specialists, but it already contains the idea of contrast, the maximum use of body-tone inserts on the front panel and doors, and in the stitching of the seats. The goal is to make the “Cross” as spacious as possible inside, at least visually.

There will be three engines for now - with power from 87 to 114 hp. Although the director of the X-Ray project, Oleg Grunenkov, said that new engines are in development, including compressor ones, which must comply international standards. Gearboxes – “mechanics” with cable drive and a “robot” based on it, which, if properly calibrated, successfully replaces “automatic machines” that have become too expensive. And soon a variator will appear - joint development the entire alliance of Renault, Nissan and Lada. The configurations will also depend on the set of units and equipment of the vehicles. But instead of the usual “Norm”, “Standard” and “Lux”, new names will appear. And the initially generated packages can be modified and supplemented with your own choice of options.

All this, of course, is beautiful. What about the quality? AvtoVAZ management has repeatedly promised to make the Lada more reliable and of higher quality. And now Grunenkov has announced plans to switch to a 5-year warranty - although only for some parts. But it can already be partially used (for money, of course) in addition to the existing 100,000 km or 3 years. Another visible indicator of quality improvement is the percentage of direct assembly (as the factory calls the production of bodies without defects), which at AvtoVAZ reaches 95-96%. This is the level German productions, - they note not without pride in Togliatti, - and 2-3% exceeds the standards of the alliance.

High quality is also reflected in the price of the cars, which will be announced before the start of sales. Why not now? The fact is that the Lada X-Ray depends most of all on the exchange rate - the level of localization of this car, built on the B0 platform common to the Renault-Nissan concern, is only 50%. The situation with Vesta is a little better - it consists of 65% domestic components, however, Tolyatti residents are now actively looking for Russian suppliers, planning internal import substitution of parts.

An exhibition of SUVs, crossovers and all-terrain vehicles, Moscow Off-road, has opened in Moscow.

Since Moscow international motor show will not happen this year, automakers have decided to please car lovers with an exhibition of SUVs. Previously, the show taking place at Crocus Expo was called “All-Terrain Vehicle” and cars occupied an insignificant place on it. This year cars dominate here. Moreover, they prevail so much that some auto companies did not hesitate to choose this exhibition to present their new products. In particular, Mitsubishi presented the Russian premiere of the 5th generation. The leader of the Russian pickup truck market has retained its main qualities, such dimensions and maneuverability. Its carrying capacity also remained unchanged - up to 1 ton - which allows it to be driven within the third transport ring in Moscow. But the interior has changed dramatically, becoming more comfortable, spacious and less noisy. Sitting in this car you won't think you're sitting in a utilitarian pickup truck.

The car is equipped with a fundamentally new turbocharged diesel engine volume 2.4 liters. On the Russian market it will be offered with two settings: standard, 154 hp. and high, with a power of 181 hp. Car cost in basic configuration will amount to 1,349 thousand rubles. This package already includes ABS systems, directional stability, trailer stabilization and brake pedal priority system.

IN maximum configuration the car costs 1940 thousand rubles. There are already seven airbags in this configuration, leather interior, climate control and bi-xenon headlights.

AvtoVAZ presented the international premiere of LADA Vesta Cross Concept. From the name it is clear that this is still a project. It is made in the X-graphics style, in which both Vesta and Xray were created. Quite attractive in appearance sports station wagon. As AvtoVAZ director Bo Andersson explained, it was initially planned to make a hatchback. But after a meeting with dealers, it was decided to build a station wagon first. The plant is currently working on creating all-wheel drive vehicles. New engines and gearboxes are being developed especially for them. This is supposed to be power unit volume 1.8 liters. And they will be installed on this concept. On average, it takes a year to start a car, Bo Andersson explained. Therefore, the pre-production version of the Vesta crossover will be presented to the public in a year.

Also at the stand domestic manufacturer you can see Xray and Vesta concept. Production of the latter, by the way, will begin in September. And after 105 days in the series will go and Xray. At the same time, it is planned to release 5-6 thousand Vesta this year.

By the way, AvtoVAZ’s exposition at this exhibition is the largest. Moreover, you can not only look at the products of the domestic automobile industry, but also test them in the field.

Right in the parking lot, opposite the pavilion, a special test drive track has been prepared, consisting of numerous obstacles and traditional swings that jeepers love to go through.

You can also test other SUVs and crossovers on the site. Including the one recently released in Russian Volvo market XC90.

The Jeep company is not satisfied with the site prepared for the test drive, and takes those who want to ride its cars to its own site, located on the banks of the Moscow River. This is a really rough area, with large slides, holes, logs and stumps, and even a large mud puddle and a ford. Moreover, passing some obstacles is not for the faint of heart.

At the stand Land Rover can see legendary SUV Defender Heritage. There will be only nine such cars in Russia.
